[Music] it's always an interesting trip out to red pig tools and I'm with Bob Denman and Bob you have for us today different kind of hose and I never realized that there's so many different hose and they all do something just a little bit different in the garden that's right there are three basic kinds of hose in the world there are push hose such as this one right here that you push away from you when you cut there are draw hose such as you pull towards you when you cut an American pattern Oh such as this is is the standard draw hoe and then there are scuffle hose which we're going to be talking about today which are hose that cut both on the push cut and the pull cut and they're the most efficient for weeding because you're getting you're not wasting any motion okay the the most common scuffle hoe known to people is the oscillating hoe a commonly called a hula hula hoe is actually a brand name of one one particular most popular and first one but they cut the ancestor was a stirrup hoe which did the same thing only you had to slightly angle it down on the forward stroke and slightly angle it down on the back stroke and somebody figured out that if you made it oscillate hinged it slightly that it would automatically cut on both the forward in the backstroke little less work on our part right and then there are a number of different kinds for instance this one is called a cape cod wieder and this is a very large cape cod waiter a large version of a small hand tool very heavy-duty comes out an extra heavy handle and it's for for weeds that are more recalcitrant if you're on a rural property and have big weeds that's a good choice a this is a medium duty tool called a slow and it so came out of England as an alternative to this particular tool right here which is the earliest form of this kind of tool called a Dutch hoe now this one is a push hoe but along the line they started sharpening them on the back side raised this up here a little bit so you could cut both on the forward and back stroke and gave rise to the scuffle hole this is a lighter duty version of this it's just not anchored on both sides so it's not quite as strong so maybe for a home gardener where this is going to be more for heavy duty this is for your beds but and this one is a little more upright you work a little more upright with it this tool right here is a tool that I found at a garage sale and started making them it's an agricultural hoe or tender plant hoe and it's a scuffle hoe all four of these it's extra wide you can tell it's used in gardens and fields because of the width of it and then it's folded up on the ends and those little wings served as shoulders that keep you from kicking dirt and stones over unto tender young plants and it also in a whole hand hole such as this lets you locate the edges of the blade so that you're not accidentally cutting through tender young plants the good thing this particular one here is a diamond hoe a diamond hoe that again does the same thing it's a little bit lighter than this one covers not quite so wide with but it has these points on it and the points are excellent for pricking out individual weeds again that are too close to allow you to go in with the blade and slice them out for fear of damaging the adjacent crops this is a very popular tool called a winged wieder it's swept back in this delta-winged fashion you can use the points for pricking just not quite as easily as on this one and it's an extra light duty for around very well tended Gardens with friable soils this is an excellent tool it tends to self sharpen because the blade is is very thin and slightly cupped and so it sharpens itself at the edges where most of these other tools you have to file them occasionally and what does this one down here this tool right here is a tool that is not around very much anymore this one right here is the only version of that still on the market and it's a tool that that floats over soil it has a bit of flex to it and so on uneven ground it's excellent tool because it keeps you from fighting the little hillocks that you run into a stiffer hole it makes it a lot easier on us well you know all of these tools have their job makes a lot easier in our garden will enjoy our gardens more out at red pick tool Bob has all this information all these beautiful tools we'll show you and you have a great website that we could manipulate through and see all of the things there thank you so much for having us and please come out and visit they're out and boring take care well thank you [Music] you
