Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
If there's spoilers for the game, I will not watch it.
500 years worth of fuel sounds really excessive both in-universe and as the premise of the game. O_o
That much energy in a canister of that size, couldn't that become a black hole?
Even about 5~10 years sounds like it'd be good enough.
The biggest problem is that the energy released by a meltdown or explosion isn't necessarily the same as the total electrical energy that would have been generated. For example, if the Uranium-235 in the Little Boy bomb had been run through a nuclear reactor, the total energy would be 2.8 times greater than the bomb. We don't know anything about the Nuform containment or criticality conditions, so I think it's okay to take "vaporize all of Harlem" at face value.
Another thing that MatPat failed to consider is time. A nuclear fireball can reach the temperature of the sun, but it only does so for a matter of nanoseconds. Harmless explosions in rapid succession will never cause damage no matter how many.
A 40 kiloton blast happening at 2km cuts the major damage down to a few city blocks. Therefore, if Miles releases the energy over the course of a few seconds, as opposed to the nanoseconds a nuclear bomb would release it over, it will greatly reduce the damage and damage radius.
