hey what's going on everybody it's ETA Prime back here again today I am super excited because we finally get to take a look at the all new Samsung Galaxy s24 Ultra this is something I look forward to every year and this year Samsung is really kind of focusing on AI now we've really got an awesome camera on this thing but for this video we're actually just going to be focusing on performance I really want to see what kind of a upgrade we got from the Galaxy s23 Ultra last year and I've still got mine so we can actually run some benchmarks side by side and see how much more power we have here with the s24 ultra and of course we're going to be throwing some native Android games at this device like pubg ginch and impact and more plus we're going to test out a little bit of emulation but keep in mind I will have a full emulation video coming up with this device because there's so much that we need to test here first impressions definitely feels like the Galaxy s23 but we do have titanium here I think it's a more premium build and since Samsung phased out their note line of devices these Ultras do come with a built-in stylist first thing I noticed about the s24 ultra as soon as I got everything set up was how beautiful the display is it's a 6.8 in 120hz Dynamic ltpo AMOLED 2x display I'm a huge fan of these AMOLED displays and they really didn't skimp here again the overall design here is basically the s23 ultra with some titanium there are a few little changes here the device is actually just a tiny bit shorter and we've got a dual microphone array up top now I wanted to give you a little comparison here because I do have the s 23 Ultra on hand and to tell you the truth if you didn't know what to look for you really couldn't tell these devices apart aside from the premium build quality on the sides here with the s24 ultra because it is titanium we don't have that shiny metal anymore like the s23 ultra but as you can see the 24 is a bit shorter not much changed on the bottom here but moving around top we've got that dual microphone instead of a single on the s23 now of course design really didn't change much but the internals are totally different we've got a really powerful chip here because this is actually powered by the allnew Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 3 for Galaxy it is a bit different than the stock 8 gen 3 we've got one cortex X4 core up to 3.4 GHz instead of 3.3 in the regular 8 gen 3 three a720 cores at 3.1 we've got two more of those clocked a bit lower at 2.9 and two cortex a520 cores at 2.3 along with the up clock on the X4 core we've also got a higher clock on on the GPU it's the Ado 750 running at 1,000 MHz instead of around 930 and other devices so theoretically we do have a faster chip here and if you remember correctly Qualcomm was releasing some plus variants of their older Snapdragon chips this is very reminiscent of that higher clock on the CPU and a higher clock on the GPU with the s24 ultra we get 12 GB of RAM you can pick this up in a couple different storage variants 256 512 or 1 TB and all of them use ufs 4. .0 storage it's got a 6.8 in 120 HZ Dynamic ltpo AMOLED 2x display I mean this looks so good it does support hdr10 plus and in sunlight mode it'll do up to 2600 nits of brightness it also has Wi-Fi 7 and blooth 5.3 a 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W quick charging capabilities wired it's also got wireless charging built in and this is running Android 14 with the new 1ui 6.0 interface on paper we've got a real really Stout device beautiful screen very powerful CPU but I kind of want to see how it Stacks up against the older Galaxy s23 Ultra in some benchmarks and the first one we have here is geekbench 6 I'll just go ahead and start these at the same time do a little bit of fast forwarding here and uh you know the Galaxy s24 is definitely going to finish first we started this at the exact same time and it looks like with the new Galaxy s24 Ultra we got a single core of 2,277 multi6 988 this isn't the first time I ran geekbench 6 on the Galaxy s24 Ultra first time I actually got a higher score than this and I'll show you that in a second but when it comes to the s23 single core over there 1,99 multi is also way lower coming in with a 5,252 and the first time I actually ran it on the s24 ultra with had a single of 2260 multi 7,133 now on paper it might not look like a lot but we've definitely got a nice upgrade on the CPU but where this Snapdragon 8 gen 3 really shines is the new GPU especially given that this is clocked up to 1,000 mahz because when we move over to a GPU Benchmark like 3D Mark Wildlife extreme s23 Ultra comes in with a 3,547 and as you can see we're over 5,000 with the s24 ultra and the final one I ran here was an 2u s23 Ultra 1,529 303 and we're right there under 2 million with the s24 ultra but if you take a look down the list there you can see that GPU score is significantly higher than the s23 ultra making it a more powerful device and of course we knew it would be that's what happens year to year with this kind of tech we kind of expected this but uh the next thing I wanted to do was just run some native Android games on the s24 ultra just to show you what this thing can do here's fortnite very high settings and keep in mind we've got a 120 display I've got the FPS counter that uh Samsung provides through their gaming center on screen I know it's a bit hard to see this game can be set to run at up to 90 FPS and we're really close there but I'd say running this at 60 would probably be the way to go 100% resolution scale maxed out settings here not bad at all I mean it looks great on this display and by the way the controller I have here is a USB type-c controller from game sir known as the Galileo G8 and as you can see the s24 ultra fits right in here it actually works out really well with this device I was like to throw Minecraft in here and of course the phone's going to run it but I wanted to see if we could do a constant 120 hertz and by lowering the chunks a bit you definitely could I'm actually at 24 chunks right now so lowering that render distance would really help out you could get a steady 120 FPS at of Minecraft on this device pubg is another one I wanted to test we're at the highest settings and the highest FPS that we can get unfortunately right now it's locked down at 60 got a couple stutters every once in a while but uh you know the device really just came out it actually has an officially launched at the time of making this video I think it launches on the 31st of January but this is another game that's going to be fully playable and the controller I was using will work with this game does have a built-in mapper but I was having issues with the camera so I just went ahead and used the touchcreen here and you know we had to test out ginin impact here very high settings 60fps now temps on the CPU aren't too bad I actually was playing pubg for quite some time it reached 68° C we did have a steady 60 but I could definitely see the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 kind of thermal throttling letting it go a lot longer in this device after all the Galaxy s24 Ultra doesn't have any kind of active Cooling buil in like some of the other gaming phones on the market right now some of the phones actually have a built-in fan which keeps this chip nice and chilly but overall I think they've managed the thermal throttling pretty well and it's definitely going to underclock the CPU and GPU kind of limiting your power there but so far through my testing it really hasn't been that bad and I've been doing a lot with Native Android gaming and especially emulation so again I want to mention I will have a full emulation video coming up there's so much that we need to test but I wanted to show a few things off real quick here's PSP using the stain alone version of pp sspp Tekken 6 and if I head into the settings here we're using the Vulcan backend and we're maxed out at 10x resolution highest we can go with this now we really don't need that with this device so I'm going to take it back down to five but just note yeah 10x is totally possible with this [Music] thing I also had to throw in chains of Olympus still at 5x resolution with that Vulcan back in but it will run this at 10x get a constant 60 FPS out of this it just really comes down to the screen not having the resolution capabilities that 10x can do with this PSP emulator so yeah taking the resolution up with these PSP games is pretty impressive but I'd say the most impressive thing here is GameCube and Wii emulation using the Dolphin Emulator real quick I'm going to head into the settings I want to show you what we've got going on here now I've already done some testing with a Snapdragon 8 gen 3 phone actually a couple and I know what it's kind of capable of but as you can see we're at 4X resolution with Gamecube so 2560 by 2112 here and it's running great just like PSP going up that high on the screen really is going to make too much of a difference but this is going to come in really handy for connecting this to a larger display after all the Samsung Galaxy Device does have Samsung decks built in and if you're not familiar with that basically it's a desktop interface for the Samsung S devices I will have a full video on that something I always like testing and that's one of the big reasons I always pick up these Galaxy devices one more here for GameCube we've got autom modista this has been one in the past that's been hard to run on lower-end chips I know we're working with kind of Top ofth Line right here with the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 but we're still at 4X resolution 2560 by 2112 so far seing some awesome GameCube and Wii emulation out of the Galaxy s24 Ultra now it's time to move over to some PS 2 Ratchet and Clank we're at 3x resolution I'm using the openg backend and this app has not been updated in a while kind of wish it would have been I think there's a lot of tweaks the developer could do to get much better performance out of these newer chips but unfortunately the project is kind of stagnant right now now it's definitely still the best PS2 emulator for Android but I do think you know with some more optimizations we could go way up with the resolution in a lot of these games and finally Tekken 5 PS2 3x resolution really awesome performance in my full emulation video we will be testing out more GameCube Wii games and some more PS2 stuff I'm going to be messing around with the settings because right now I've just been using opengl through GameCube Wii and PS2 I personally haven't even tested Vulcan with this emulator yet so who knows I mean we could definitely see higher resolution with Vulcan so far far I've been having a blast with the new Samsung Galaxy s24 Ultra I've got a lot more to test full emulation video on the way plus we're going to do a full Dex video because there's some really awesome stuff here we can up the resolution higher than we could on the s23 and I really want to get that out of the way I know a lot of people are interested in kind of desktop mode with this unit but first impressions awesome build quality they've added that titanium definitely feels more premium than the s23 ultra performance is outstanding especially in applications that require more GPU performance the Snapdragon 8 gen 3 for Galaxy really puts down the power and this screen is absolutely beautiful I will be spending more time with this but until then if you're interested in learning a little more maybe pick one up I'll leave some links down below and definitely let me know in the comments what you want to see running on this more native Android games stuff in Samsung decks more emulators let me know in the comments below and like always thanks for watching
