in gressil entrance this is where we're going that is the mountain right behind that is our focus for the next 12 to 14 days it was just remarking how green aconcagua is it would be a brown landscape so we've just checked in here lady here he's gonna check us medically tomorrow we're going up France here which is up to about 4200 and then we're coming back down and then we have a two-hour wait here and she's gonna make sure that we're in tip-top form ten here I like to use the facilities here from Alice a chill-out place and dining room here and son is looking special the way the sun's the Rays dinner I think these fire pot foods quite honestly can see the best dried dehydrated foods food I've ever had camping and stuff I've introduced our so you can get like a virgin's this it's delicious I seriously I would eat this if somebody served this to me at a dinner party I'd be impressed this one here weighs 135 grams and packs 500 calories and I can see the ingredients utterly spectacular around here I get used to two people sleeping and quite a small two-man tent on slightly uneven ground a slate Hill both snoring at different times everyone around snoring at different times the that's really beautiful it's not too cold and it's blue sky today which means our trek up to front yeah will be lovely - today we're going to reflects yeah which is a little hike up to 4200 meters privatisation come back to N here to confer wenzer tonight it's pretty stunningly beautiful right here and see the ice underneath of the rock and then down here is where it's melting 4170 how are you okay yeah it's good perfect 80 120 over 80 bucks that's all right perfect how old also 3984 okay what was yours it's 620 over 60 bucks equally perfect cool practically came up in everywhere so this should be all good thank you very much they're just talking about me this is us leaving on day three good and potentially eight hour Trek The Pleasure Dome ulis my faces exploded my eyes are bloodshot not normally this ugly normally looking at this guy here it is very nice Mima and stay safe yeah cool we'll see we'll see I'm gonna say this ghetto summit we just passed by the news and a lot of people quite rightly worried about their health and all that of a mule and I having ridden horses most of my life also kill that very much but I've been looking at these guys and they are there's no new rubbings none of them are lame big shiny coats ears pricked forward base camp has been so hot which is ironic because we I'm from really really cold expedition but I think we're both gonna put on music and just power through he's film listen to an eclectic mix of music throughout the generations bass I got better Nicki Minaj game six hours 45 we are at base camp floods are the Mulas we're setting up the tents in Plaza de Mulas at the moment a tent is quite small but actually remarkably it's too big for the space that's left for us to use so any big attempt and we would have been in real trouble now the ground here is obstacle quite hard so we are trying to get some pegs in that then we're gonna use rocks to like get it all probably maybe with your notes additions food is like I don't want this I don't want that however I've introduced our tubes fire pots and I want kids flavours so I have to say things like I've already now we are all it's strange how excited we are about this po-boy menu for this week is spicy pork noodles also cast a polonaise beef stew with pearl barley beans hot pork and beans chili con carne porcini mushroom risotto and dal with rice that does not sound like the food you would be eating on top of a mountain but Thursday for as Adam Ulis my last names meant to be like our why you lie in and everything no the slip well I mean altitude thing is it's not not laying asleep luckily today is a day off but Appa base camp staying the holidays people here and this is just like we're gonna bring mules up so all the heavy stuff so now I'm going through the mule it's kind of three stages of what we need we need something the approach who needs to have the warmer in base camp so right now we're just going through that gang of ring in place that doesn't need to take a razor he should have brought his own hair brush because I'm pouring my daily my tangle teezer necessity good piece of kit um then in place for lunch Ryan be as minimal as possible but as safe as possible and all that stuff and it's great yeah and we get to see the kind of kit that they're taking one of them can it take up to the mountain is this orange flag and it's got a number on it I am four four one three and the reason for that bag is you have to collect all your excretion poop and then bring it back down the mountain and hand it in to the Park Rangers so they know you haven't lifted the mountains in preparation for this I actually bought lots of these little bags so I can individually wrap each poo in these little bags and then I'm gonna put those into probably this bag and then fat bag this bag so I'm so far removed from my poo yeah lot of foresight there to think about pre wrapping his booze yeah yeah bartering with him there's a lot of buttering they carry the fire-pot party I think I was good to you on the fire by marching say okay there's a little bird's eye view of base camp so you can see it all here we're in this section here there is the world's highest art gallery this is the mountain we're climbing tomorrow just there so we're gonna come up through here it's exactly five thousand meters higher than anywhere in Europe just a little bit higher than where and I ran across the Andes back in 2015 of course days ago I went over on my right ankle and I went up there I was up there for a couple of hours and I came down and literally the last step off the mountain or off the scree I hit a rock and just went over on my weak ankle so my yeah not ideal just before you climb that but al is up in the mountain at the moment where I went walking and annoyingly twisted my ankle which means that I have attempt to myself so this is shower time on baby White's taking a copy thinking listen I've wrapped up in a bandage to keep wrapping here and then unwrapping it the swelling it actually doesn't look too bad I have a real problem with ankles over the last year Cape brass ultra twisted it see a little bit of bruising down the bottom actually not so much so a bit of swelling here and I can move it it's not severe I'm feeling pretty confident I'll be fine especially when we go on to the big hikes we'll have the big boots on this is one one of my favorite things about doing adventures is the opening of the tent it's not morning just the best he's just spoken to a Polish team giving us a little bit and one of the chaps is a tad on the piece of it which made me know the matter however one thing we did was ten went up and fall yeah that party was ten yeah yeah pulmonary I'm Elmer a pulmonary embolism that's why we stats why you sticking to our plan we're sticking to a good plan and that's why we're going tomorrow get enough sleep oh that's outside that's my side I'm back tucked into the back yeah I see the losers lose off I live lose drop the yeah but the view is pretty staggering you can see quickly using this before kind of zigzag up here [Music] not sure is an interesting fact or not but these barrels get lifted by the helicopter I'm nursing a bit of a injury today I was coming down a scree slope yesterday and literally the last step before going into camp went over on my ankles so today is about just taking it easy luckily going up seems to be a bit easier than coming down so hopefully over the beginning of the day my ankle will loosen up and then ice but yeah so this is where we're going I'll demonstrating how to get up this is the insane thing this mountain here is five thousand that's where we're going today and it's four kilometers away can't really see because of the Sun but just here which seems that no distance at all if the same altitude it looks really easy it's very deceptive that tiny little bit halfway at the mountain is the same as that that looks hugely yeah it's deceptive little whips of snow which to me remind me of my favorite pudding just pavlova my mum makes an amazing pavlova did you have pop over at my mom's house [Music] 4931 meters you've been planning climbing icon kegger for a few months now and this is the moment I told to tell out well that's good right it's a long way down and even though you probably wouldn't hurt yourself you just get very loose some skin but yeah my legs yeah if you make sure you get to turn onto your front you fool get yourself onto your front and then these people think they're on their back do your piano I just did feel my legs go whoa even the adventurous can be scared and it's not a weakness this is little tricks okay I've just uh how am I gonna be close together intonation we look after each other cool this is oh man what's the name of this place and that is the reward bear Kyle my let's go is coming out quite strong a hit out the freakin the out of it they're going close to the edge but we are where we hope to get to today coming up is only half the battle tell me about down but really happening so this is down the bottoms where one of the other operators are another operator over here and then we're here here you can get beds the highest this is the highest lovely photos paintings and the surrounding area are you the artist and you know missed you like me go you're nearly Jamie Jamie from Scotland it's good yeah now we just got we're just getting into a stride that's working really well for us with I was annoying each other house sets the pace and I follow and tomorrow we start the kind of assault on aconcagua we it's called cash-and-carry which is the first thing we have to do so Camp Canada is just up there it's about the same height as we went out today 5,000 meters just over and what we'll do is we'll take up a whole bunch of food and equipment that we need for the higher stuff and then we'll plant it somewhere up there and then we come back down here we're doing food our sittings all the food food was something we thought we had completely sorted then we supplemented it and then we've got given a whole load of food and now we've got enough food to eat about 50 people our main staple is going to be fire pop food we're gonna have these as a 90 meals we've been speaking to some people and Matt a Polish guy who said he ate two noodles and two bags of chocolate any things in the whole time he was up there we are not going down that route we're going down with full meals every day he's got his book here with our potential super geeky check it out and then here we go here we got the porridge and then we're gonna supplement it with things like salami and cheese and and sweets and nuts and Magnus is just going through everything we're gonna put it in stacks and that will be our meal plan we've got two different itineraries going at the moment we've got the quick itinerary which is looks like there's a weather window coming on the 28th 29th we need to check the weather in a couple of days that that is a potential window just purely by our guessing not by a name official and then we were looking at the period today is this is the doctor perfect and the only thing is we got to drink more water and put some additives in it because here doesn't have anything in it there's been purified to death breathing things hands on he shuddered with a little whimper of joy love me this is my pack going up today I'm slightly worried about how heavy this is this is the book we just come up I was coming up through the zigzag okay here and then where those rocks are just kind of there at the top in the distance is where we're going today but our camp Canada which is the first camp in the ascent we got our little hilarious setup here and today were trialing a new contractor and he has his own entrance I had this end I have my own entrance water is a big thing on this expedition and we need to be drinking about four and a half litres a day there are no taps there are no rivers well there is a river but it's brain but there is snow snow owl has just taken our snow bag across to just over there picked up some amazing an ice cream what we're gonna do now is boil down the snow into water it takes six parts six the volume of six to make one volume of water first morning here Julia we've had quite strong winds overnight had the temp fair we listen to pop music hot weather music then warmer but it's all nice is breakfast it's snowing outside really glad that we're not summiting anywhere near today to be at 5,000 meters and not be being sick no coughing they you know I was just really scared about going for a pee I was actually losing sleep over it's windy it's cold it's snowing everything else will be exposed I know what happens to that whilst you're doing it I'm just really worried about today I'm gonna get some chocolate chip cookies and then I'm gonna crumble respective chip chocolate chip cookies into my porridge just to really add some calories some chocolate this is a new breakfast porridge chocolate chip cookies so talking poo strategy about this whole process we have to put into this orange bag and out there it's super windy really cold you know everything's gonna be exposed to the elements and I mean everything that you forget to mention to prune this orange bag and then carry the overnight bag with us or the whole time we're here so this is potentially six days long stinky boys by myself I probably in the tent in a matter is that one atrium is a but storage rather good place I'm gonna do my business now there's lots of debate do you straight into the big bag she put in two small bags do you pull on the ground then pick it up this rock there's al just down there and scoop strategy yeah hold on dude I spent a year and a half on the road I pooped in awhile before so I don't like a condemned man time has come nature is overtaking sense of decorum and I have to poo into this bag nej me is just a wonderful moment in the sunshine and no end and this is I choose my moment the storm and truly dreading this moment because I just think it's gonna go everywhere but the deed is done one of the less enjoyable experiences my life I think one is standing in many years worth of Mountaineers and then adding to it and then attempting to scrape up what you do into a small bag and inevitably leaving some behind for posterity but then this is perhaps the the least glamorous aspect of opportunity I think today I'm gonna reach the highest altitude I've ever reached about five thousand five hundred meters and uh being a trail runner at heart or a runner I want to go quickly that's just not what you can do hop here so just learning to take it slow but that's part of the reason why I'm doing these challenges this year is to do things that are not what I would normally do not within my comfort zone and challenge me in new ways and think I put five thousand five hundred meters it's gonna challenge me we get to the top of their six thousand nine hundred nearly seven thousand meters that's just going to be epic need though they come daughters which is five thousand five hundred and forty three meters apparent according to my watch this is the highest I've never been I think and to me hopeful is it is just beautiful rocks it's a blue paper flying around occasionally but this is the next stage to our but we've just been going through our checklist we neither of us have had a snow they were so nauseous both have our appetite both are peeing both are doing number twos so we're all feeling in great we're breathing in great shape just because and that's what up because it makes me in my mind that we was so in harmony and I think the next day one day he taking into account wind this is gonna be there and my head is gonna be where you show me so it's been the hardest thing we've had to do since I got this altitude five and a half thousand meters we're really feeling him wrestled with the tent we're now on the water GT snow from there which is quite AIESEC cookers to boil it down Jetboil on the go here and ms on the go here as kitchens go that is pretty amazing the temperature what you cook it up there chef 600 calories and then it's the big day joy joy joy upper 5920 old beaters my distinguished colleague now we've just come up from last bit for day it's just to follow this route along I think it move those cracks laid out or equipment around the place and check puts things into what do we need for the climb or do we not need the great thing about this we keep getting people coming down telling us what they felt kit preparation going on in here this is my side answers outside and then things like getting nutrition for the day done water ready and this is the view right now all we can do is make sure we have the right kit and we've eaten well and we rest well tonight and pray that the weather is going to behave like it's meant to and that will give us everything we need and the only thing then can stop us getting to the top is mines I think we're in pretty good shape we know what waiting for dinner we know what how we're doing breakfast we've already packed our bags every bit of kits been tested and tried so aconcagua we're gonna come and say hello tomorrow six-six talking morning we're dressed on the go I'm dehydrated so drunk so it's just after 6:30 beautiful scenes coming out here my GoPro batteries just are dying instantly but trying to get quick on in here at the mountain below me here this is a con Cara it's very cold just how beautiful test it view comes all around that beautiful the trail now goes up and around short shot things on the camera today as this camera it cannot stand the cold but up that's what we're going amazing views both just put our crampons on we can feed right down the bottom there is where we started pleasure demoulas I can see the whole trek up I'm suffering I'm good on mountains if you're running but when you give me a 2000 meter drop I start to shake fastest expect to turn to the top we've broken speed just say we're halfway in every respect although it's ridiculous peak is that so we're quite it looks like we're close so you think now all right Justin kept on going when is his mount again but my John is right there look at this a limit this to you now nice pension to you I was like pipe dream I did yeah we've been here yeah I've been like I was I already had like plan that oh yeah I could do it the end of the year is the second attempt but we did it and that's cuz we worked our team and we did work as a team as incredible feeling being the highest people in us probably at this very moment a teary moment and then we break this realization we've actually now got to track for hours back down to where we're camping in our same little tent I mean I can't begin tomorrow night doing Karen I think from both of us but I say thank you to everyone who supported us and helped us by giving us a kick me more addictive giving care giving us support telling us that we can do it being there if we need something to talk to personal reasons me it's about something new pushing myself to is we're both good friends for like twenty something years and we haven't had an argument we've got on well we didn't know how we were gonna vibe yeah worth of different ways to do things and we ought to top that anyhow on which is you
