this is some heavy Force the tree literally ripped their roof into pieces it was like a speeding bullet the plan is take apart the whole section so I can replace the wood underneath number one two is the Crowbar a roof and crowbar underneath open up the shingles they're not easy to open up they got ice and water Shield right here probably no ice and water Shield somewhere else yep pretty easy open up I have to find the joist to see where I'm going to open up to I can see the first joist right here so the second one is probably right here so I have to open up this much I'm opening up all the shingles right now releasing the glue it's very easy put your crowbar underneath and just push lightly open them up I can feel this one if I go anymore I'm gonna rip the shingle uh that's more than enough this is where the joist is that's where the other joists open up this one that's where the ice and water Shield was so not easy and when I go I always try to point down as much as possible that's enough I gotta take this one out so I gotta open up this one too I'm starting to feel it's getting harder right here it might rip so I have to go slow pointed down and just try to feel it got it got it right through there was a spot where it was heavily stuck and that's enough again that's where my other Joyce is going this way you got it when you get to the double laminated part it's very easy to go right through here the chances of you ripping the shingle on the double laminated part is very low okay and that's all I need again this is what we are trying to do release the glue this is the last damage shingle so I have to take these shingles off down and the hole is here so probably replace this much so to get this shingle off I have to take the nails off from this shingle take my crowbar here's the nail take out one more I took the nails out from here here all the way to here and that's good enough to take this and go off now I probably want to go to here to this seam uh the natural seam so let's open it up more it's very tight over there I have to go more Mayo is right here I can't reach it maybe I could pop it a little bit yeah got it [Applause] got it here I can just go right through foreign missed I couldn't see it because of the blue now I'm gonna take the nails out it's a lot easier to take the nails out this one if possible this one if I cut it here I got this ice and water Shield that's stuck to it that's no good and plus the joist is right here so I'm gonna pull it back and cut it here again about six inches away foreign [Applause] looks like the joist is going to come out to be right here to take this wood off I'm still gonna have to take off one more layer I'm gonna be cutting it about right here foreign you can see I cut it kind of crooked should be more right here to about half inch crooked and it's going to give me a problem when I put back the new shingles so let's make it even [Laughter] now it's even the lower shingle we don't have to take it all the way to here the lower seam is is where it has to be somewhere here it is right here [Applause] all right this is the last shingle I have to take apart still damaged here foreign on top of a seam if I take it here we're going to be about four inches apart but if I go to here I'm risking them all rip these shingles here do I want to go that far I think I can I think I can do it let's see yep it's going good no rips take the top one oh there we go yeah I'm about where I want to be about six inches off if I try to go here my knife the shingles in the way I'm gonna have to open it up more so I don't have to open it I can cut it with my crowbar take it underneath and push it like this there's a little lip left I can just break it up like this see [Applause] rip or rip the right to room from here to here it went like hot knife through butter once I got to here I got foreign it's going to be a lot easier to try to break in where it's a double layer so I'm gonna go to the middle right here what's here glue or something it's going easy again this one here won't be six inches it's gonna be about four but we can fix that once we put the shingles back in put a little wedge in or you can put silicone like this underneath foreign about four inches maybe five inches here the way to fix this when I put it back together I would put sealant underneath going like this so no water won't have a chance to go to this seam it's possible to even leave the re-entries between seams I've seen people do it and it doesn't leak but to be 100 right by the book has to be six inches but up to four as here usually it's not an issue but if you have silicone always put silicone underneath sealant what we have is tone and groove decking you never want to put shingles on top a tongue and groove decking you always want to put plywood on top of this decking there we go our seam is right here I'm going to take full piece off here and maybe cut this one here let's see what this this will give us a 10 inch I think this would be the best way cut it right here to remove nails from plywood or boards you always want to use a little hook remover it's very easy to blend in all right the whole it's like a cannon hit it bam it must have a lot a lot of force to make a hole like this nice and clean and this is tongue and groove boards this this isn't no plywood thank you all right let's see if this is enough foreign foreign wood tongue and groove boards you always want to use the right nails you don't want to use shingle Nails here it's not humongous issue I bet you want to evoke it if you don't have nails like this you only have shingle Nails I might as well just put in Shingle nails then go to Home Depot watch the abrow too but if you do put in Shingle Nails make sure you put in a lot every two inches [Music] okay [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] thank you still not too hot so it's not that sticky [Applause] for this you can use tar paper you can use synthetic paper I usually use ice and water Shield but you can use anything you want I usually you can use to make a difference and this part of the roof if it was lower down on the roof you want to use ice and water Shield definitely I only use ice and water Shield because I buy it by the truckload so I pay very little for ice and water Shield we're very close to a seam so I'm going to take some sealant that's it that's all you gotta do [Applause] the bottom one needs sealant on each nail [Applause] and this piece it doesn't hurt to add ceiling close to the seam you can see the bottom shingles kind of ripped up when the glue was ripped off it led a little indentations so we can put sealant here and sealant here too now I did this now you can see there's a seam right here I could cut this shingle right here put another one in but I want to teach you another way to handle a seam that's very close take a shingle cut the back and this is your seam you can see it goes under this one about ink and this one goes under here about an inch the bottom shingle comes to about right here like this One Nail two nails foreign underneath and we're good there's going to be no leak here usually I don't do this because it takes a lot of extra time only time I would do this is if I was taking apart the shingles and they'd be so stuck together that's better to put seam seam wedges or seam caps then to try to take apart the shingles [Applause] [Applause] okay and this one we don't need any seam silicone because we're pretty far away but I do put silicone here but it's not to seal the seam it's to seal the shingle down since it was a ripped off the ceiling bead it's no longer good so you have to put a little bit of sealant to glue it down putting sealant on where the hose used to be foreign foreign go back in pretty much the same way I took him out but it's very important that you put sealant on the right spots and you want you want right type of sealant you don't want to use dab silicone or caulk that's where trim you don't want to use 100 silicone that's where bathrooms and kitchens you want to use special Roofing sealant you can use solar seal 900 but that after five to ten years it dries out and cracks the best one you can get is quad quad ceiling they have a Home Depot at Lowe's too they have a Lowe's and not Home Depot this will be a full piece let's see if it goes in nicely went in very nice this is the hoe after the old nail puts sealant on it and you can always put a little bit on the seam if you want doesn't hurt [Applause] okay the oats and goats not gonna have sewing anymore so we have to add sealant so wind doesn't pick it up to take out this shingle we need to take out the nails from Dish and go now we gotta put the nails back in and seal up the hose you always have to pay attention to seams especially seams where you have old shingles you can see there's a nail hole about one and a half inches two inches from a seam this would have leaked 100 percent so you always want to pay special attention next to seams all finished yeah yeah all finished very nice replaced a couple shingles a little piece of wood all finished it took me about two and a half hours two hours uh very good emergency job one that I like I like here a lot it's a very good color match these shingles after about five years they're gonna fade and they're gonna turn like this they're gonna fade they're gonna stain a little bit and even right now it's not noticeable from the ground because it's a ranch house and a low pitch roof today is Saturday around 10 11 in the morning go check out my guys they're doing it full roof see if they need anything hopefully they don't need anything and go home relax probably go to the swimming pool today it's gonna be about 91.92 so even if this was a bigger job I wouldn't be working past 11 o'clock I would do what I can to 11 and probably come back tomorrow Sunday work from seven to maybe 10 11. right now it's it feels like 120 degrees on this route see you guys in the next video cheers 15.
