(motor screaming) (tires squealing) - Muscle cars of the the '60s and '70s were defined by their
primitive build quality, barge-like handling, and howling V8s. But what if, you want an old school muscle car, without any of the drawbacks of an old school muscle car? You get this. (music thumping) Today we're going bumper to bumper on the Speedkore Evolution. (upbeat rock music) It might look like a 1970
Dodge Charger, but it's not. Not even a little bit. The only thing this car shares with the original Charger is the looks. It doesn't share any sheet metal. The body is all carbon
fiber and it's beautiful. It doesn't even sit on the same pan. Underneath the car, Speedkore designed a custom ladder frame from steel. They used four pieces of 6061 aluminum to build the custom floor pan. They could've used ready made, reproduction sheet metal, but that would've be to easy. The oil and fuel lines are mounted inside of the frame rails because the guys at Speedkore are bad ass. Muscle cars of old were
good for straight lines and that was about it. Not so with the Evolution. Up front the suspension geometry is modeled after the C6 Corvette. A car known for its handling. (tires screaming) - Oh. - And in the back, it
has a four link rear end. This is a huge upgrade
over the stock leaf springs which are better suited for trucks, not anything you plan on
taking around the turnies. Penske racing coilovers handles
all the bumps and lumps. Does Penske sound familiar? - Penske
- Penske - Penske
- Pensky - Team Penske - Oh Yeah. They're only one of the most prolific and dominant racing teams in U.S. history. This is a muscle car
with suspension inspired by Indy and NASCAR racing. That's American as me. (music thumping The Evolution has torsion and sway bars, both in the front and in the back, which drastically reduces body roll. (laughs) When you're going as fast
as this thing gets going, you want to slow down. Believe me. That's accomplished with Brembo six piston brakes up front and four pots in the rear. And just like my EG
Civic from high school, it's got drilled and slotted rotors too which cuts down rotational mass, increasing acceleration and cooling. The wheels are made by HRE. They're called S101s. Forged wheels like these HREs are much stronger than
your typical cast wheel. And they're cooler. It's got freaking 345s in the back. That's this wide. Twice of my face. And I got a big face. I can't buy sunglasses online. (screaming) Why would any car need tires, twice as wide as my face. That's because the motor is one of the buffest horses I have ever come across. Let's go look at it. (Music thumping) Speedkore didn't go for
the typical 426 Hemi, or a typical LS. No. They are company of discerning taste. They chose one of the most
powerful production engines ever. The Evolution is powered by a Demon. Yes. The same engine from the Hellcat Redeye. Even though this car
isn't technically a Dodge, it's still got the soul of
a Dodge tucked inside of it. To get more power, Speedkore
made some big changes. They installed new fuel injectors, engineered a custom intake. They 3D printed this (beep) right here. This is literally what they do at NASA. My friend does it. Hi Chad. And on top of that, they installed a smaller
pulley on the supercharger which makes it spin faster, pulling in more air boys
and producing more boost. And more boost means more power. Lightening. (explosion) This is one of the cleanest
engine bays I have ever seen. And I grew up in early to
mid 2000s Volkswagen culture. Where shaved bays were all the rage. It's really a sight to behold. Roll that sweet, sweet B-roll. Wow. Is that a wire? Nope. Mmmm. There's a little more of
that champagne bright work. Speedkore, you outdid yourself. Damn, this car's got its own logo. Speedkore also worked with DiabloSport to tune the Dodge ECU. Which was a very cool ECU out of the box. Literally. (laughs) To see me take it out of the box, check out this episode right here where I unbox the Demon Crate. Those tweaks result in an astounding 966 horsepower at the rear wheels. Which is 128 more than just the plain old, regular old, super, limited edition but far from production V8 even Demon. (tires screaming) And Speedkore didn't stop there. Speedkore decided to
install a dry sump system. But there was a problem. Nobody makes a dry sump
system for the Demon. So Speedkore built their own. Okay, quick explainer. A dry sump system stores the oil in a tank separate from the engine,
pumping it in an out. This eliminates the need for an oil pan. So, instead of being on
the bottom of the engine, the oil reserve on this
car lives in the trunk and there's two lines
that go through the frame to keep things clean. Cause being clean is
a theme of this build. It's not even a build, it's a car. It's a whole car. They made a car. The engine also sits really
far back in the engine bay. It's almost behind the front wheels and that really helps
keep the car balanced. It's called weight distribution. Google it. You know who buys these super
high-dollar muscle cars? Rich guys. And what do rich guys love. Being comfortable. So let's go slip into
something a little bit more comfortable than this freaking stool. (laughs) (music thumping) This is a really nice place to be. Now the Demon and its Redeye brother, use an eight speed paddle shifting automatic transmission. But the Evolution, how they'll do it? Speedkore grabbed the
same Tremec T56 manual from the Hellcat and bolted it onto the back of their upgraded engine. (tires screaming) I can't imagine the focus it must take to get all of your limbs to work together to shift, steer, clutch, and gas this thing
with its 966 horsepower. You's have to be like Danny Carey to do something like that. Even though the Evolution looks like it came from the future, it feels like the past
from the driver's seat. It's like Star Wars. It's like this weird futures past. Even the door handles are cool. You open them like you're shooting a freaking missile out of a fighter jet. - [Tyrese Gibson] Ejecto seato cuz. - All that being said, this is the best interior
I've ever been in. 100%. That's not even the coolest
part about this car. The coolest part is outside, in the frigid Los Angeles winter. (music thumping) So, let's get down to the brass ass tacks of what make this car stand out from any other Charger ever built. The body. I just want a host note. I love the name Charger, because Charger means electricity and electricity appears in nature in the form of freaking lightening which is one of fastest things ever. Lightening is so fast
that it creates thunder. Which is the third coolest thing ever. It goes lightening, lava, thunder. Lava's on there cause it
killed the Terminator. (Terminator crashing) (yelling) (laughing) Speedkore use lasers, the fourth coolest thing ever, to scan a 1970 Charger to ensure that every measurement
is absolutely perfect. Lasers don't lie. They're just like hips. Once getting the measurements, Speedkore made models and
laid in the carbon fiber. The result is a perfect replica of an OEM fender made with the same carbon
Boeing uses on the 787. That's a big plane. Speedkore didn't use and old carbon. No. That's not their style. You guys listening? They used what is called
pre-impregnated carbon fiber. It sounds very funny. I am trying very hard not to laugh at it. Normal carbon fiber is laid out
and then brushed with resin. That's what makes it stiff. Also a very funny word. But prepreg carbon is frozen, literally, when Speedkore gets it with the resin already in there. The sheets have to thaw out before they get laid into the mold. The carbon is then baked and pressurized in an autoclave where the resin melts. After the parts come out of the clave, they are stronger and
way lighter than steel. You guys have probably noticed that Speedkore didn't even paint this car because, no doy, it looks so sick. We have a great crew here at Donut and they're doing their best
to light it and shoot it. But in person, it looks like a freaking water moccasin. And if you don't know
what a water moccasin is, it's the scariest thing in Florida. And Florida is full of scary things. This piece right here is
one single absolute unit that goes all the way
to the front of the car and is bonded to the roof
with a bonding agent, which is an agent that is used to bond. This is the same technique used in gajillion dollar supercars, like the McLaren Senna
which we did an episode on. You can check it out right here. And just like the original Charger, they maintain the headlights in the hood. So when you turn on your
turn signals, you know it. But they made their own bezel, which is kind of concave and just like everything else on this car, absolutely beautiful. They tucked the exhaust
tips into the bumper. They thought of literally everything. The Evolution was built
as a proof of concept. Speedkore's plan is to
branch out from Chargers and start making carbon fibber parts for Camaros and Mustangs or
whatever people ask them to do. If there's a market, they'll do it. The Speedkore Evolution might be the most advanced muscle car ever built. People might be skeptical of Detroit iron without any iron in it. But this car is proof that
the technology of today can be used to save what
we love from yesteryear, which is why I would like to announce that I am building a time machine so that I can go back in
time and get me a dinosaur. (yelling) Thanks for watching Bumper
