the first half of 2021 was a very busy time for me and i was very happy when finally by the end of july i ended up in a summer break and there is no better recipe for myself to come down relax and find peace than going out in nature in particular to the mountains and shooting a wide-angle lens on one of my camera bodies and this video is all about the 30 millimeter lens for the fuji gfx camera system it's the gf30 widest open is an f 3.5 and this is one of the best wide angle lenses i've ever used and i intensely shut it over the summer break i want to share in this video my sample images and of course also talk a little bit about the data points that lens has to offer and now let's kick off the video [Music] at first sight the gf 30 millimeter doesn't look like something special besides maybe the fact that from a phone perspective this is a much smaller and more compact lens than what you typically get in the fuji gf lens lineup and of course also from a weight perspective the weight is only 510 gram and very often you have about one kilogram for fuji gf lenses but don't be misled by smaller size and lower weight and people notice from many other reviews on my channel to make a comparison leica m-mount lenses are typically smaller and more compact than lenses and other camera systems but they deliver excellent image quality and the same applies here to the gf 30 millimeter this is a fantastic lens and the images i'm going to show will clearly convince you that this is an absolutely perfect wide angle setup a medium format camera or large format sensor camera like the gfx100s combined with a prime lens with 30 millimeters in the fuji gf system which corresponds in a full frame equivalent to 24 millimeter and the field of view of 84.7 degrees in terms of minimum focusing distance you can also get quite close to your subject so the minimum focusing distance is 32 centimeters and the maximum rate production ratio or magnification ratio is 0.15 times so you can get quite close to your subject and you can also achieve here close-up type situations in your shootings and in general i should say the autofocus of the lens is also working nicely with the focus system of the camera is very quick always spot on reacts immediately and i think again this is due to the fact that we have face detection in the gfx100s but also that we have a very well functioning focusing mechanism here in that gf 30 millimeter lens the filter size of this lens is 58 millimeter and based on the much smaller lens much smaller than what you typically have on gf lenses and the price you have to pay for that lens is around seventeen hundred dollars if you purchase it in the us and that's a substantial price tag for a prime lens but you also will be awarded by fantastic image quality i was shooting this lens over the summertime in switzerland and in austria and in austria in particular in the mountains at a place called sirs so for those of you who understand german words it's in for albert and it's a very nice mountain landscape which you get offered there and i was also shooting it in the swiss mountains i want to share my sample images now and before i want to quickly show a place where we stayed a very small hotel in the austrian mountains and i took a few shots very quickly during my stay there with my iphone which i want to share because i think it's worthwhile recommendation if you make it to austria and you want to go to the mountains that's probably one of the most original places you can go and then let's look into sample images from this camera with the gf 30 millimeter lens and then let's conclude the video [Music] do [Music] when we arrived in late evening in the mountains the weather was pretty foggy and not really what i expected but then luckily next morning the weather was just gorgeous and we had the perfect view to the mountains so let's share the sample images i wanted to share here and let's have a look how great the image quality is coming from the gfx100s with that 30 millimeter wide angle lens [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] 30 millimeter on the gfx system correspond i said before to 24 millimeter in a full frame equivalent setup and that's an ideal field of view for landscape which you clearly saw in those images what i didn't mention yet is that the widest open aperture of f 3.5 actually corresponds in a full frame equivalent to a widest open of f 2.8 what i want to show next are macro and close-up shots and i said before that the minimum focusing distance is 32 centimeter and that means you get fairly close to your subject and then you have in addition the huge crop reserves on the 100 megapixel sensor of the gfx 100s which produces images like the ones you are seeing right now [Music] of course i also shut the lens and the fuji gfx100s over the summertime in switzerland and in particular in one place which is called bergenstock and is a mountain kind of in the middle of lake lucerne and here i also finally had the opportunity what i was waiting for during summer namely to get the clear night sky and shoot the milky way and i'm going to show a few images now and then we move on to the last topic which is time lapse with this camera lens combo [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] as a last but not least application of this camera lens combo i want to quickly cover time lapses and clearly based on the wide angle of the lens and the fantastic capabilities of the gfx100s that's a very good value proposition and first of all i took 900 frames which you see here then i processed them in lightroom and then i basically compiled them together into a time lapse in final cut pro you could actually theoretically with 100 megapixel actually 80 megapixel is enough for it go up to 12k but in final cut pro 8k is kind of the maximum so i produced an 8k time lapse then scaled it down to 4k for youtube and that's how it looks like when all the post processing is done [Music] i hope you liked my short review about this fantastic wide-angle combo here the gfx100s with the fuji gf 30 millimeter and if you liked it don't forget to drop me a thumbs up it's nice to get some appreciation for my work stay tuned on my channel there's always more to come stay safe and healthy and of course peace out
