From Slave to Prince (full preaching) - Kris Vallotton | April 8, 2018

you I I want to talk to you about the third most powerful experience I've ever had my life and the first most powerful experience I had and I'll just tell you briefly about it my father drowned when I was three years old and my my mother married a very violent man when I was five divorced him when I was when I was 13 and and when my mother went through divorce we were going through a very difficult time my mother was covered with psoriasis all over her body and we had a prowler at our house for almost a year the police were out five four five six days a week to our house trying to find the prowler he had gotten in my Madrid you actually got in our house twice he got in my bedroom one night and my mother was sleeping with a shotgun on the couch and I was sleeping with the 22 rifle and as somebody got he he got in my room about three o'clock in the morning and and I woke up and took my gun and he jumped out the window and I took a shot at him and did not hit him and was very difficult time and this is when I was 15 years old and and I didn't I wasn't raised to believe in a god I wasn't raised to be an atheist sight we just never went to church we never talked about God and that night the night after that incident happened I said out loud if there's a God if you heal my mother I'll find out who you are and I'll serve you the rest of my life and an audible voice said my name is Jesus Christ and you have what you requested and the next morning my mother was completely healed of psoriasis about a week later the voice came back and said my name is Jesus Christ you said if I yield your mother you'd serve me and I'm waiting so for the next three years I search for God I went from church to church of course I didn't know where to go I just knew that that God wasn't Buddha he wasn't Muhammad I I knew all I knew is that his name was Jesus because he said the audible voice said my name is Jesus so when I was 15 years old I I met my wife when she was 12 we got engaged when she was 13 that's a true story tells you how dysfunctional our families were we got married when she was 17 and so we ended up before we and when I was when I was 18 and she was 15 we ended up in this group and somebody my friend where I was working said you got to come to this group I was still in my search I had not found God yet and I ended up at this group and they were a bunch of Jesus people how many of you got saved into Jesus Movement I didn't even know what Jesus people were some of you guys are too old too young to even know what Jesus Movement was and so I end up in this Jesus people it's a house probably about a hundred hundred and fifty kids there and if you got there late you had to sit on the front lawn and they would open the windows and put speakers in the windows and and there was those days when they saying how do you guys remember that song and so we're sitting on the floor in the front room of all these Jesus people with my girl then-girlfriend and this man shared a really simple message and while they were worshiping singing songs like I just demonstrated by the way you don't want me on the worship team I definitely won't be invited back I attract demons have the anti anointing well we were worshipping people would young people would stand up to say jesus healed me from cancer Jesus delivered me Jesus Jesus restored my mind jesus healed me from from epilepsy and and I and they would just stand up just young people to stand up testifying of the miracles that God did in their life and I said to myself that God who spoke to me is here and so at the kind of like at the end of worship the young man just a little older than me said if you if you'd like to receive Jesus just raise your hand I'm like huh that'd be me and my girlfriend raised her hand and and we received Jesus that day and the young man came over and talked to us he's again like maybe three years older than us he sat on the floor with us and he he explained the gospel in very simple terms he told us that we were born again and he said to me and and to my then-girlfriend Kathy you're born again and you're like a little baby and you need a father I'm like yeah I've needed a father all my life and he brought two young men over to us and he says which one of these men do you want to be your father and I just took the better-looking one and that was the beginning that was my introduction to the body of Christ and I have never turned around since the second most profound thing that ever happened in my life was I got married help me no marriage will change your life but I want to tell you about the third most profound thing that ever happened my life I am when I first came to beltless it was a prophetess it was pretty interesting relationship we had it was kind of like you're fine how am I you know that was anyway to think about that that was our morning and her name was Nancy and Nancy was is a really a wonderful person but Nancy was very sensitive like she cried when she was happy and she cried when she was sad and then she cried because she was crying so she pretty much cried every day and so it's a very it's a very interesting relationship we had so Tuesday morning is usually our brief my briefing morning when I meet with my PhD tells me about my week so I come in Tuesday morning and and um we're sitting there and she's telling me about my weekend and she's crying and I and I'm like okay I wonder if I should engage this because she's worked for me for a long time and finally I said to Nancy like are you okay she's like yes no I said well did I do something to hurt your feelings she said no yes I said what what did I do and she said these words to me she said you don't realize how much people value you and you don't carry yourself like people like you understand that people value you and you step out of your office and you think you're being funny but you're destroying with your words the very people you're supposed to be leading and I said did I say something to hurt your feelings and she said yeah she told me what it was and I asked her to forgive me and literally it was over like we had had many of these incidents several times a week for nine years so it wasn't something it wasn't like I didn't even tell my wife about it it wasn't even a big deal when we went on throughout the day and we had a normal day and that night I went to bed and I had a dream have you ever had a dream where you wake up and you can't remember the tree but the emotion of the dream is totally with you I wake up in the middle of the night probably 3 o'clock in the morning and I feel like I lost my best friend I'm overcome with grief and I and I have this verse a part of a verse running through my mind the world cannot hold up under a slave when he becomes a king I hadn't read that verse for a number of years it's a it's a part of a proverbs chapter 30 and it's just running through my mind the world cannot hold up under a slave when he becomes a king and so I'm half asleep and I just kind of slide up against the headboard and I'm trying to get all the way awake and and this verses keeps running through my mind and finally I say to the Lord are you speaking to me he says yes you're a popper who's become a king and it's time for you to change and immediately I was taken back into that morning in a vision where Nancy said to me you don't realize how much people value you and you don't carry yourself like you understand that you're valuable and you walk out of your office and you think you're being funny but you're destroying the very people you're supposed to be leading with your words and I came out of that vision and the Lord said to me do you know why Moses had to be raised in Farrell's house I said no but I bet you're gonna tell me he said because a man who's in slavery internally cannot free people who are in slavery externally so was it it was necessary for Moses to be raised as a prince so that he could free my people but he said unlike Moses who was raised to be a prince you were raised to be a slave and it's time for you to change now I don't know how this works you know I believe in sovereignty I also believe in free will but I have to say that when God says you're gonna change it doesn't feel like you have a choice how many can say amen to that and I began to encounter the love of God in a way I had never encountered before I was reading through the book of Genesis at the time just in my devotional time and I had really related to the character of Jacob anybody remember Jacob remember his his father didn't like him his brother didn't like him but his mother loved him how many know your mother always loves you you can be a drug addict and your mother's like he's training to be a pharmacist you know I'm saying and Jacob Jacob goes down to a watering hole and he sees this woman and and he wants to marry her and so he finally ends up you know in her father loss in her father's houses says you know I want to marry your daughter Rachel and and his father says will you work for me for seven years you can have Rachel now I think we should go back to that I got two daughters this stuff paying for your daughter's weddings no way but I don't think we should do the Philistine foreskins thing either but anyway so Jacob says so the eleven says to him you work for me for seven years and you could have Rachel and so you know the story he works for seven years and they have the big you know the big wedding and and and and he wakes up in the morning and from the honeymoon suite and Leah's in his bed now I don't know why it took him all night to figure out it was Leah but thank God for Thomas Edison and he comes out of the honeymoon suite he said did I not work for Leah for Rachel yes you did well this looks like Leah and Levin says to him well listen we always marry off the oldest first like you know you had like seven years to tell me that but you can have Rachel on credit you can have was it this week and then you work for seven more years for me and so Jacob works for his fall off for 14 years and is miserable his wives don't get along with each other his vowel doesn't like him his doesn't like him his brother doesn't like him he's just living a miserable life and finally he says to his father-in-law like listen I'm taking my wives I'm leaving and his father says to him no no don't leave if you stay with me I'll give you a signing bonus this is kind of Chris peloton's edition of the Bible it's hasn't come out yet and Jacob says and he says you know if you stay with me uh uh you know stay with me I'll give you a sign in boats and Jacob says it doesn't matter what agreement we we make you've changed my wage ten times and what Jacob didn't realize is that he married into a family Jacob is a liar and he married into a family that lies more than he does and finally Jacob says to him listen I'll work for all the spotted and speckle sheep and goats if they're spotted and speckle they're there they're mine and if there's solid color they're yours and then Jacob does this crazy thing how many of you know the story to Genesis 30 he goes down to the watering hole where all the sheep and goats mate and when the strong sheep and goats are mating he takes branches and and he and he and he carved spots and speckles in him and he puts them in front listen you can't make this stuff up and he puts him in front of the strong sheep and goats when they're mating and the craziest thing happens all the strong sheep who goats reproduce spotted and speckled sheep and goats and all the weak goats you know well he doesn't put - he only puts the branches in front of the strong sheep from goats when they're mating and the outcome is that all the strong sheep and goats are spotted and speckled all the ones like drag and a leg got a bad eye they're all evans and jacob becomes really rich and one day i'm reading that story in the midst of the lord saying to me it's time for you to change and i had this idea that this is not a lesson in agriculture and I begin to realize that God is shearing telling teaching us how his sheep reproduce we become what we want to become but we become what we see at the watering hole of our imagination ladies before there was mirrors there was puddles you would go down to the watering hole and you would fix your hair and do whatever you do to your face and what I'm getting at is this is that proverb says as a man thinks in his heart so is he and my point is and what I begin to see is that you don't become what you want to become you become what you see at the Warrenville of your imagination and I've learned that there are two ways to live you can spend your life reacting to what you don't want to be or you can spend your life responding to the vision that God's given you for your life if you spend your life reacting to what you don't want to be it's interesting because you have to keep in mind what it is you don't want to be in my case - violet stepfather's I realized that I was becoming like the very people I hated I used to counsel when I was at Bethel the first three years I noticed Gary huh and I remember that I never met a child molester who wasn't himself molested and somewhere in the counseling session they would say something like I swore I'd never be like my brother my cousin my my uncle my mother my father who molested me and I'd become like the very person I hated and I began to realize that you don't become what you want to become but you become what you see at the watering hole of your imagination and here's the challenge in order for me to not be like my father's who abuse me I had to keep in mind what it is I don't want to be are you with me but the challenge is I become what I see an order for me to not want to be my father's when I react in life and I'm like I don't want to be like my father's but the problem is I'm a mad what it is I don't want to be and I'm becoming not what I want to be but what I imagine in the watering hole of my imagination somebody once said you are not what you think you are and you are not what others think you are but you become what you think other people think you are John Maxwell said no that's not really true he said you are not what you think you are you're not what others think you are but you become what you think the most important person in your life thinks you are did you get that and I begin to realize that's true if the most important person in your life is God then you become what you think God takes of you because you get that it's the most important in your listen in your life sorry I'm going through puberty if the most important person in your life is God then you become what you think God thinks of you but if what you think thinks of you isn't what God thinks of you then you're not becoming what God thinks of you you're becoming what you think he thinks which is what he thinks let me know that's why you got to be transformed because what you thought he thought isn't what he's thinking hell you know you can't change your life but if you change your thoughts you'll change your life [Applause] so I began to realize that I had to change the way I thought about the way that God thought of me later on Jacob goes down in Genesis chapter 30 32 and his he tells his wives listen he leaves his father lost house he's really rich now he's miserable and rich and how many know it's better to be miserable than rich and miserable and poor because if you're miserable and rich at least you can go shopping can I get an amen ladies [Applause] and it tells his wife's listen you go on to the next city and I'm gonna go down to Jabbok and get my life together and he goes down to Jabbok the city of Javik and Jabbok means empty and alone anyone ever visited there and he he he prays to God for help and God sends him an angel now you know you were having a hard life when the angel that's sent to help you he don't like you either and the Bible says to Jacob wrestled with the angel all night and finally the angel said let me go my shift is over and Jacob said I'm not letting you go until you bless me and the angel broke his dang leg and Jacob state hang on hung on and finally the angel says to him what is your name and he said my name is Jacob and by the way if your name is Jacob it's an awesome name we all love that name but if you're a Hebrew and the Old Testament it means liar and he said what is your name he said my name is Jacob my name is liar and the angel said to him no longer your name be Jacob but your name shall be Israel Israel means a prince with God I love this part and jacob says to the angel and what is your name and the angel says that's none of your damn business I always wondered why the angel wouldn't tell Jacob his name until I read in the book of Corinthians where Paul said do you not know you'll be judging angels huh me know there's a guy in heaven dragging a leg and there's an angel never mind he didn't get that anyway listen if you wrestled with the angel all night for a blessing and he broke your leg and you hung on or dislocated your leg and you hung on would you let go of him just because you called you by a nickname not me I'd be getting me some stuff well you would if you realize that sticks and stones can break your bones but names will take away your future see there's a lot of people that live under an alias that God did not give you how important is the name how many know that Abram could have no children - his name was changed to Abraham the father of a multitude Eve woman - Eve the mother of the living Saul to Paul Cephas - Peter you get the idea honey you know when Adam named the animals he wasn't calling him spot fie fie and trigger that literally that the names that he gave the animals they literally took on that DNA are you with me what is it a name I'd like to propose to you that the greatest lie in Christendom is that you're a sinner saved by grace it's not true you were a sinner and when you got saved by grace you became a saint you're like oh it's just semantics it's not semantics it's a name and if you believe your Center you'll send by faith [Applause] because you got righteous by faith how many understand that Paul said while we were yet sinners Christ died for us and the point he's making is that when we didn't deserve it before we deserved it his love is so amazing that before we ever deserved it he died for us but his point is is that before you desert he died for you but you deserve it now because when you receive Jesus Christ you became a new creation the word new there means never before created you became a prototype okay here we go when you receive Jesus Christ you became a creature that had never before graced the planet you literally became a new creation all things all things are passed away and all things have become new it's not even in your nature to sin you go I know sin still works yes it still works but how many understand it's not your nature to sin I'm not saying you can't sin I'm just saying it's not your nature there's a river that runs through your soul it runs towards the throne if you don't you don't paddle you'll end up in God's house you were actually created for glory there's none do you know that verse in Romans 8:28 says all things work together for good for those who love God and called according to his purpose do you ever wonder why the next verse says to whom he foreknew he predestined and whom he predestined he called and whom he called he justified and whom he justified he glorified how many know that whom he foreknew he predestined he predestined you to glory that's why all things work together for good I have eight grandkids for kids and eight grandkids I like the grandkids a lot better in fact I would just skip the grandkids if I would have understood what we're doing and when my grandkids were young little to my two oldest a granddaughter her name's Misha and my grandson Elijah they're cousins and we took them to marine world you guys have marine world here you'd see world okay well marine world is better and we go to marine world then we take five four of our grandkids and two of them stay in our hotel with us and at the time we were it's we were really poor didn't have a lot of money we're stayed in this little tiny motel you know how they the small motels you stayed a little small motel room but you they want to make you feel like you got a good deal so they put just like huge big screen TV in and it's so close to the bed you can't actually see the whole TV anyway so my grandkids my granddaughter Misha who at the time was like five six and my grandson Elijah who was five there sitting on the edge of the bed and they're watching a documentary on reptiles and with this big screen TV they're like four feet from it and they're watching you know the the crocodiles and the lizards and the snakes and the alligators and when the documentary got over Misha who's really smart and very tiny she says to Elijah let's wrestle that's wrestle he said all right so they jump up on top of the king-sized bed you know this is the most fun thing to do right and she said I'm the crocodile and you're the lizard [Applause] he goes all right so they face off and she goes and he goes rah and he grabs her and he throws around the bed he jumps on top her she's like you can't do that you can't do that you're the loser [Applause] he said what do lizards do she said lizards go so he said all right now I'm watching him from the bathroom door watching him and like this is too funny and so she goes raah and she grabs him and throws him on the bed and she's laying on top and his little head sticking out here and he's going and he can throw her right off but every time she moves she goes you can't do that you dizzy he's under there for five minutes so at first he's like and after several minutes he's like and pretty soon I heard this little voice pop oh yeah I don't want to play anymore I want to be the lizard and I realized that that's just like the church the devil becomes the powerful crocodile and we become the lizard and we say lizard things like well brother I don't know we're gonna do about that let's just grab hands and pray in tongues [Applause] [Music] how many know that when Jesus hung around his disciples they all argued about what every time Jesus got thirty yards from there arguing about what who's the greatest you remember the argument got so bad that James and John got their mother involved and James John's mother's asked Jesus Jesus please grab me one wish in Jesus what is it that my sons considered your left and right hand in the kingdom and it says the rest of the disciples were indignant you know why they were indignant because they didn't think about getting their mother involved see there's something about hanging out with Jesus that causes you to know that you were born to be amazing you know that the Gospel of John is the only gospel that calls John the disciple whom Jesus loved and he wrote it every all the other three Gospels called John John writes and the disciple whom Jesus loved you know the gospel of John's the only gospel that tells you that when Peter and John ran to the tomb who got there first John I'm Peter and John ran to the tomb and John got there first I wrote in my side in the sidelines at my Bible eight who cares and what I'm getting what I'm getting at is this did say I don't think those twelve disciples before they met Jesus argued about who's the greatest and I'm not saying it's okay to argue about who's the greatest I'm simply saying something happens when you meet Jesus like you realize that you were born to be amazing coming you know I was born in the image and likeness of God Ephesians 5:1 says the imitators of God do you understand that when you're acting like God you are being yourself you were born to be like God you know why you do signs and wonders and miracles because your dad is God you're a child of the king I'm right about this [Applause] two of my grandkids were arguing in the front room and mice my grandson Elijah who was then about seven he said to his his cousin Isaac he said let's fight Isaac said all right he said I'm spider-man Isaac said I want to be spider-man so you cannot be spider-man you can be Superman I'm spider-man so there they were then Riley walked in Riley is Elijah's little sister and she was four and she looked like a blond brillo pad you had to push her hair back to see where she was going she comes in she says I want to play I want to play I'm betting to be the spider-man and Elijah says you cannot be spider-man just then I walked by and she looks up she says Papa I said what she says they're not cherry you're not sharing I picked her up why what's wrong she's crying she says I want to be the spider-man and well at me I said why don't you be Wonder Woman Wonder Woman can whip spider-man any day how many married men understand this principle she said all right I've been to spider-man I'll be the Wonder Woman I said okay so I put her down and there's three superheroes fighting in the front room Shh I walked out of there and I thought you know what no one ever went when you're a kid you're not arguing over who's gonna be the garbage man have you ever met a child says I want to grow up to be a loser no it takes about 12 years of religion to convince you that being a loser somehow spiritual because part of being childlike is you know you were born to be amazing somebody has to talk you out of it you know why the worst songs we've ever son I hope I don't hope you didn't sing a last week or anything this little light of mine this little light of mine I'm gonna make it shine for Jesus don't blow it up I don't have a light little light have the Sun of righteousness are you with me I'm not a powerless person in the world I'm the light of the world you're the light of the world Jesus said I'm the liar in the world then he said you're the light of the world hum you know you're not the light of the church you were like in the last days that the church is gonna get brighter and brighter and the world's gonna get darker darker you misplaced the light jesus said no one likes a lamp and puts it under a basket how many know the church has become a basket we're like powerless lizards like jesus said you're the light of the world a city set on a hill that can't be hitted if the world is getting darker it's not because the world's getting darker because the church isn't shiny jesus said make disciples of all nations I'm telling you low self-esteem is killing us every time you think bad about yourself you're insulting the God who made you and then and the image and who you were made let me know God the Father was the artist Jesus was the model and you're the painting people say stupid stuff they really sing a great song and you're like that's amazing like was it me it was Jesus it wasn't that good oh I'm saying feeling bad about yourself is not called humility it's called stupid [Music] [Applause] you are called as a royal priesthood a holy nation it's in your DNA to be amazing your father your daddy is a king that makes you princes and princesses this is the truth and in my mind you know the Muslims there they're deciphering five nations Christians zero what you believe matters jesus said love your neighbor as yourself as as is a big word you got to know your ass let me understand if you don't love you you won't love them best thing you can do for your neighbors love you [Applause] you know if someone tries to love you more than you love you you were sabotage your relationship with them I forget what time we're supposed to be done can someone tell me there's a clock up there but doesn't say which way it's going are we supposed to be done now huh got 15 more minutes okay so I just wanna make sure yes you know we're like all sitting here here comes the next spanish-speaking people I'm trying thinking I'm just seeing if I have anything else to say you know you have the mind of Christ first Corinthians chapter 2 it's been misquote so many times I has not seen ear has not heard it has an inner the heart of man all that I wanted all that God wants to do for those who love him do you know that's an Old Testament verse quoted in the New Testament do you realize it's in italics because Paul is saying this is what the old prophet Old Testament prophets thought in the Old Testament they said I has not seen ear has not heard it hasn't entered the heart of man all that God wants to do for those he loves but Paul says the next verse Paul says but they've been revealed to us by his spirit for the spirit knows all things he said the spirit of man in fact I might as well just read it we should read a verse but we've but to us God has revealed them through his spirit for the spirit searches all things even the depths of God for who among men knows the thoughts of a man except for the spirit of man which is in him by the way the devil doesn't know your thoughts unless he gave them to you now we have received not to spear the world but the Spirit who is from God so that we may know all things freely given to us by God which things we speak not in words taught in human wisdom but those taught by the spirit combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words but the natural man does not know this is an accepted things of the Spirit for they are forces to him he cannot understand them because they are spiritually appraised but he whose who is spiritual appraises all things yet he himself is appraised by knowing this this now the Old Testament prophet says this who knows the mind of the Lord that mean we may instruct him it's in italics because it's the Old Testament quote who knows the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him next verse the rest of the verse we have the mind of Christ the Old Testament prophecies who knows what God's thinking Paul goes we do do you understand that when you receive Jesus you received a new mind and a new heart you actually think like God I want to know this happens all the time we have 2400 students in our school of ministry and they're always you know I like to get them married because you know Jesus God said be fruitful and multiply right and by the way you can't just have two kids because he said multiply so you have to have at least three that's a joke anyway and they come up to me all the time they're like I just don't know who I'm supposed to marry I say what are you thinking you say why I like I like Jade but I don't know what God thinks well what do you think I like J you mean Jane who came halfway across the world who loves God who's like this beautiful revivalist yeah I just want to know what God thinks God ain't marrying her you are [Applause] what are you thinking I'm thinking I'd like to marry her well that's what God's things how do you know that because you think like God whatsoever things you ask when you pray how many know when you pray when you're in the presence you think like God it's like God's wills a mystery it's a mystery to people who don't know him and to the people who do are you with me I'm simply saying your sons and daughters of the king what's the mystery to everyone else is not a mystery to you Ephesians chapter 3 3 says that the manifold wisdom of God is going to be made known through the church two principalities and powers like you what angels long to look into you know are you with me so this is your job this is your mission if you should receive it you were born to destroy the works of the devil and make history you're his story makers well brother evils taken all over the world listen when you step onto the scene [Applause] so if you're supposed to make disciples of Nations and you're not someone else is but it isn't because you're not called it's just because you don't know it you know with I'll finish with this in John chapter 20 Peter and John run to the Tim John gets there first but Peter runs in and he sees two linen wrappings one that used to cover the head of Jesus picked up and take it and put in another place and they're lying and wrapping that covered the body still in the same place why because when Jesus rose from the dead how many you understand that Jesus is the head of the body the body the head was revealed but the body had yet to be revealed are you with me I'm gonna finish with this Romans 8 listen to this verse 14 for all who are being led by the Spirit of God these are the sons of God for we have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear you know what fear is it's faith in the wrong God you can't be afraid without faith in the wrong God but we have received the spirit of adoption as sons we cry Abba Father daddy - father the Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God and if we are children then we are heirs of God you get that your errors of God fellow heirs with Christ Jesus if indeed we suffer with him we also may be glorified with him for I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory with the glory revealed to us for the anxious longing of creation waits eagerly for the revealing are the sons of God for creation itself was subjected to futility not willingly but because him who subjected in Hope the creation itself would be set free from slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God did you get what that just said that says the devil knows who you are God knows who you are the Angels know who you are creation knows who you are you're the only one who doesn't know who you are and all of creation is waiting for you to be revealed so that it can be released from corruption into the glory into the glory of what God know the glory of the children of God you were born for glory would you stand you were born for glory just turn to your neighbor say I was born to be amazing turn your other neighbor and say I am amazing I'm gonna pray for y'all all y'all just can you put your hands out like this this is a kind of bethel thing it's kind of a little prophetic act lord i just release your grace on every single person's room just say this say i was born again into the kingdom family of god i'm a child for the king I am already seated in heavenly places with Christ far above all principalities and powers I've been assigned commissioned and gifted to destroy the works of the devil and to bring the kingdom everywhere I go everywhere I go the kingdom goes with me I am the light of the world darkness runs from me and I've come here today to be fully equipped for every good work and I intend to do it in Jesus name Amen god bless thank you so much [Applause] [Music] thank woman-child men
