what is going on everybody welcome to another pixel stream how are you guys doing happy sunday year's almost over with guys so we're gonna be finishing out this last stream of mine for the year with a bang hopefully you guys are doing well welcome man guys if you are new to the pixel logic streams my name is ian also known as irish sculpts and i make toys for a living and i like to teach zbrush here spread the knowledge for the love what is up eric how you doing hello sir hello so last nope scratch that didn't do it last week the week before um we were working on futurama's uh robot santa as kind of like a way to kind of just tidy up the year a little bit so we're just gonna finish that we're gonna just kind of make it a printable thing um obviously we t posed it but now we're going to kind of do a little bit of cleanup and then from there we're going to make sure that we uh uh kind of create a base i have something in mind something simple but easy and fun to do and then i will basically make it a miniature for people to download so there you go you guys are new to this brand new to this sub like follow wherever you are hit one of those buttons it'll be good all right all right oh i like that all right and this will be the last stream for me of the year um as a solo stream so uh hopefully you guys have enjoyed it we'll we'll come up with a new project at the start of at the start of next year which would be good all right and just to kind of top it off this is actually what we're going for i saw this and i thought this was awesome so we're going to end up making this principle so let's just go ahead and get into it stop talking about it and let's do it all right let me get my how's everybody sunday hopefully everybody sunday's doing really well and here we go all right so first things first i'm actually going to just do it with a torso art i think that would be kind of fun i have this base of mine and that we're not going to deal with this legs so we're going to go ahead and create a new save file and we're going to call this a 0-3 then i'm going to underscore this and i'm going to call this base asian i like to kind of mark my ztls when i make a change or pivot or something the monday for you happy monday hopefully it's a good monday what we're gonna do here let's go with the feet and let's go ahead and delete this we're gonna delete his feet we're gonna delete his legs i'm gonna get to creating a base real quick and i really like this with the belts so i'm actually gonna delete this and we're gonna keep this here nice i think that's gonna be really good now let's go ahead and create the base the first thing let's actually let's select everything on the pizza box and hit control f and when you do that when you select the pizza box and you hit control app it's actually going to put everything visible into a new folder this is a quick way to folder things that you want so we're going to go ahead and say yeah let's always do that we're going to call this robo and now everything that we see is right in there just a really great way now we can create new folder click this last one hit insert and we'll actually use a cylinder for this and we'll just kind of hide this hello could you explain what the dot button on some panels like the one you could do on the polish feature oh okay not a problem uh porco um what the dot feature is it's kind of i guess the easiest way explaining is it's basically another alternative to the method so if we were to basically let's take this for example and you'll notice they're kind of everywhere right or if i were to go to polygroups and then i were to go to group by normals what that will do is it will obviously group by normals based on that but you see that little dot that's right there that's kind of an alt feature it's just it's going to basically treat it uh it's basically recalculating it a little bit different it's like another algorithm it's the simplest way to explain it not quite sure the technical term but if i were to go ahead and click that now it's going to go ahead and do the same process but with a different algorithm and that could give you a different result um the most popular new one is actually the dynamesh one where if you were to go to dynamesh and you were to say okay i want to dye and mesh this at 120 you hit dynamesh it does that but if you were to go ahead and use this alt feature in the dynamesh it will give you a different result um so just think of it that way it's just another way of of trying the of trying the process so hopefully that makes sense what is that [Music] juan welcome man casey welcome in this answer reminds me of the scene of the movie home alone nice nice uh so pergo hopefully that answers your question it is just more of a different algorithm it's like just a new other thing so um and i recommend if you're not getting the results that you want with it uh closed open it up see what happens not a problem ryan ryan hand what's up dude hello good sir hello uh all right so we're gonna do something fun now i did something a little off stream but i'll explain what i did for you guys uh because we're gonna be adding something really really cool so let's drop this on down we're gonna blow this up now here's something that i love to do and i like to let's go do geometry grease and i'm sorry edge loop and i like to delete loops that's a good way to keep uh certain unnecessary loops down and we're going to go ahead and scale it i want to create a just a simplistic base with a little bit of we're going to scale this down we're going to be posing him today so we're going to keep a little bit of love there go actually just this in this will be this will be fun hopefully all right now here's a fun little trick if you guys um haven't really done this before with slice curve let's say i want to add some edge loops here but i don't want to just add one at a time using z modeler so b z m you know hover over an edge edge loop kind of guess where it's at i just want to add a couple edge loops real quick if you just control tap into space and then mask everything off and use slice curve you can just add edge loops wherever you want really really cool so i'm gonna do that real fast just a nice way add some edge loops i'm actually gonna add a supporting one right there just something a little fun it works for more complex shapes but i thought i would showcase it here i'm going to hover this i'm going to go to poly loop and tap that and get a new polygroup actually before i do that i'm going to shrink this down just a little bit more i know all right super clean hey what's up chris welcome in dude i'm gonna go extrude polygroup oh touch that like such yeah now you notice it's kind of getting getting a little a little bit of a lip right there we want that flat so we could take a clip curve actually cleanly clip that flap which is really really nice this clip curve just kind of pushes all that geometry up so we can use clip curve and now we have a little bit of a fun little bit there and then we're going to take this i'm actually going to slide this whole complete edge loop slide that down grab the edge loop i'm going to slide that down a little bit cause a little bit of a relief and now i'm going to darken everything here i'm going to take that slice curve trick just because i just want to add a couple loops here real fast just so that when i hit d for dynamic say yes it's actually going to add a nice little bit of edge loop we're actually going to do the same boom done now see when i did slice curve right now without masking it it actually created a new edge loop with a new poly group but by masking it actually keeps that poly group like that if you want to do it that way insert now this is where you kind of want to you know delete that right there and maybe change your mind that's like there we go yeah a little bit sharper yeah that's kind of a big place let's actually get the pose next so let's go ahead and save this out and base creation all right anybody have any plans for uh the holidays coming up those who celebrate christmas new years all right let's actually go to transpose master and now let's go ahead and actually you know what i changed my mind i want to recreate those teeth i'm actually going to come back here let's just delete all boom i actually want to change those teeth a little bit because the teeth i have so many teeth here that's just too much we take a look at the concept you know he has like a couple teeth let's go ahead and do that yo hannibal what's up dude uncle man welcome in yes depression oh that's not good sculpting like crazy i know right all right let's fix these teeth a little bit oh now i created um i created a nano mesh to get this but i'm thinking what we could do is actually just work on you're just deleting every other one let's go ahead and geometry delete hidden go ahead and kind of we're on this i rotate that a little bit let's see how that that works okay now i'm going to let's try we're kind of more troubleshooting at this point at this point i could do one of two things i can either try to inflate everything at the same time or i could just recreate the teeth based on the teeth that i have and kind of do it by hand so you know something like that but then maybe scale that down i actually felt pretty well yeah i like that way better yeah that's pretty and then what we could do is actually go to uh geometry modified topology nope i lied let's go to polygroups and group by normals and then we're going to go ahead and crease polygroups yeah that's better i could do a yeah i think that'll work out let's do that boom okay so let's actually delete this one let's go here say delete nope don't do that we have to open the folder first if you don't open the folder you'll delete the whole folder that's always fun and delete here now we're going to go ahead hold control copy that over rotate that there we go yeah just a little bit bulkier teeth will be a little easier printing at that point perfect and we can actually maybe oh you're watching witcher nice just got out of spider-man say anything i'm just kidding not that through it safe i will save thank you so much there we go slice and knife do exactly what you did create lines half the time i use it instead of whatever they're supposed to be doing right just checking if i'm making a extraction um as part and want to create a string edge of at least the edge what do you do wait not sure if i follow i'm making extraction part i wanted to create strain straight edge oh if you're making an extraction you want to make a straight you want to create a straight edge over this edge what do you do actually [Music] i'm trying to follow but for some reason i'm brain farting um sorry hold on one sec okay yeah sorry wow why am i why am i i am blank in here hold on one second and maybe i just don't understand what you're asking and i apologize for that because that's silly of me um let me let me see if i can follow you you're saying let's go polygroups group by normals are you saying when you hover over an edge and you pull an extraction part out like that you a clean a wait make a clean edge instead of a stepped one no mass extraction no no no you're fine you're fine sorry um i mean if you okay so you're saying like if you have a complex shape and you want to actually make a clean edge and no mask i mean the the edge loop is going to follow the geometry as best as it can what is really interesting so let me see something real quick i'm going to tap this right here and draw this out what is interesting is that if i were to just normally do an edge loop it's going to try to follow that as much as possible right but if you were to kind of do something like just something random okay you wanted to have something kind of go up here at an angle that's more where like the mask part would come up because then you could just do something like that and it would try to do its best uh so if i have a shoulder and i want to make a pad when i mask and make an extraction the shape will be stepped oh i see what you're saying when you map that's kind of going to be the nature of it you'll just have to you're making a mask and then you do an extraction of that shoulder okay i think i follow you now all right let's get it let's get up let's get a guy here uh delete that if you have a shoulder like this here and you make a mask let's actually go really fine let's flip the bite a few times um and then you make an extraction even at a higher subdivision i mean the only way it's always going to kind of be stepped a little bit and this is kind of a rough example but if you were to go here and then say and correct me if i'm not still following you um but if you were to just say zero and say extract and then say accept solo that because the mask isn't clean it's always going to be kind of step no matter how high the topology that's why probably the best thing to do at that point would be to actually kind of smooth it out so you'd want to clean that up anyway and the way i would do that is i would actually go to deformation and polish by uh polish by features with with the uh with the mask selected because this is what you'll get it'll already be masked maybe soften that just polish by features a little bit but then you're going to want a zebra mesh to clean that up that makes sense so if you're using the extraction method it's always going to be stepped a little bit the other thing you could do if you wanted to make a shoulder pad that was not stats i guess what you could do is one of the new features which let me go ahead and delete this so we're going to go back to this guy real quick i'm going to just drop this down to a low poly what you could do is actually come in here and use mesh project and now create a shoulder pad that you can then rework that's possible that's actually the route i would go if you want something that's not going to be stepped and you're going to get much cleaner geometry right out the gate you'll still want to rework that a little bit but that's that's what i would do if you wanted something like that but if you want to clean it up then with the mask extraction extract it out go ahead and use uh polish by groups with the mask still selected and just get or not polish right groups polished by features but the outer edge still unmasked but the rest is masked and then z-remesh that with a single-sided geometry that's why i always say if you guys are going to do some sort of uh masking like let's mask like this right you're going to mask like this and then you do extract go to and here we'll use the the uh magnifying glass go to your thickness and hit zero because when you do that and you say okay and accept you're gonna get if it was merged together of course you're gonna get single-sided geometry that is much easier to work with than you would with uh with a thickness set of like point zero two because then you're gonna get double-sided geometry and then it's a lot harder to clean up and get to be a little bit better so okay cool all right different approach i'll give it a go perfect yes sorry i wasn't sorry i wasn't following you there for a little bit uh brain farting i won't use the fact that my refrigerator failing today had any part of that okay all right let's put this and call this base because we're still working on this part right here with the stand okay now what i wanted to do i actually wanted to start posing them so we're doing a laughing pose and one of the things we can do around the gate so i don't have to pose it right now i'm actually going to turn this off hidden that turn this so that his eye is or this way as in the concept he's kind of crying cry laughing we're gonna reposition his eye for the concept and you know what we should do this hannah flew up your fridge his santa did blow my yeah now last night's uh my fridge had the signs of dying and then today it said we did son we did that's always fun rotate that a little bit all right so uh just to reiterate i'll probably reiterate it a couple times but this will be my last uh stream of the year so we'll be picking stuff up back in january but it's been super fun guys hopefully you guys have enjoyed the streams eyes out a little bit i'm gonna try to see what we can do about the tears of his they're kind of like cry laughing which is hilarious so do something like that let me scale down just a little bit all right let's start the pose because he's just going to look the same until we change him save it and then let's go ahead and go to depose mesh one of my favorite ways of posing characters in zbrush it's super easy and it gives us a lot to work with okay first things first i'm gonna mask off this guy and we're gonna give him a little bit more of a rounding like this mask it off gonna rotate this up now i want to most likely use deformer for the rest of this to get it bent the way it is so we're going to start the bend kind of something like that we'll end up finessing this we're actually going to be placing his hands where we want them to be this way we'll have a point when we use the deformer to get it the rest of the way just for now we'll keep it symmetrical but then we'll change it in the final final pose something like that and let's go ahead and actually use select lasso and select this pass that off i'm gonna take this open that a bit let's turn off symmetry symmetry we're going to kind of bend him back but he's laughing you know what we'll angle into one side a little bit of compression happening i'm here actually select that was weird let's select all that stuff up how can i make a normal bump from surface noise how do i get surface noise on low poly so if you want to get surface noise on low poly i mean the thing to remember is that surface noise in general needs to have information on that so it is definitely important to have enough poly groups to capture the the noise itself but you're doing something like um you're doing something like and i'll showcase here in a second where you're just trying to put the noise on there but you want to keep it as low then i'll show you how to use uh which is just using a surface for that and i'll show i'll show that here in a second realize that the nuts did not follow but that's okay then we're going to do is we're actually going to open up this actually i'm going to go ahead and do auto group so we go poly groups auto groups which just helped me isolate things a little bit more actually i'm going to invert that raise that up a bit and we're gonna roll his mouth back something like that a little bit of that cry laughing okay we'll use this for now and let's go ahead and push this back to t-pose hey yo what's up david uh you know uh how much have i missed uh 26 minutes worth and some of that was talking so i was just watching mike palvich nano mesh poly mesh and z modeler vids grace that is the way to do it are you going to bevel the belt edges yeah when we finally get there yeah absolutely okay now we have something a lot more along the so real quick okay so this is uh going back to that surface noise question for a second and also gonna back this up for your thing so let's say this is low poly right now this is 3 000 polys if i want to apply noise to this like let's say i have dynamic on now i want to apply noise to this but i don't actually want to apply it i just want to see it that's when you go to surface you go to noise and from here you zoom in and we can apply any noise we want we can actually go into the noise plug-in which is this feature right here let's say we want to add a little bit of a weave and we yeah that works we can zoom out a little bit that's too much now we can just go ahead and adjust you know our scale let's say something like that and the color just come here with the color a little bit but we're gonna apply that strength so the cool part is you could see here that we're getting that surface noise turn off uh rel i forget what it stands for but you can see here let's actually turn the noise itself down okay where to say okay you take a look at this now this might be a little hard to see let me get a different material let's slow this out for a second so if you could see this this is low poly 3 3 000 active points and we can get a good amount of surface noise this way the problem with keeping it this low poly is because there's not enough information for turn this off for a second not enough information on the edge loops to capture all of that detail the tighter these edge loops are together the more information it can actually store but in this current condition the edge loops are pretty far apart so this is where when you have when you're using surface if you were to turn around and say okay let's go ahead and apply the mesh now it's it's no longer able to capture that information you did apply it but there's not enough information for you to capture so if you want to have surface noise on low poly this is the way that you do it you go ahead and then you keep it here but when you're ready to apply it you need to uh you need to subdivide up okay getting those poly uh poly groups tighter and tighter together you have your main edge loops which are the darker lines which those lines are your your original mesh if we were to step it down that's what the original next looks like but on the inside it might be hard to see on the inside you see all of those little polygroups next to each other all those edge loops that's going to hold that information so now if i were to turn back on that noise then say apply to mesh now we're dealing with 3 million say apply to mesh and now it's going to do a lot better of a job keeping that information so to answer the low poly noise that's how i would apply noise to low poly mesh and you could just have that turned on whenever you need it it's totally fine it'll work that way boom there it is it'll just it'll just showcase that this even works if you do this the key shot to zbrush bridge this will actually show up over there which is really cool it's neat but when it comes time to actually apply that information you're going to want to you're going to want to step it up now to export any noises any noise or normal maps or texture maps that you would want you would actually want to come up to uh the multi map exporter and then actually select you have displacement vector displacement normal map texture from poly paint having inclusion cavity export mesh create all maps you can then adjust which maps you actually would like to to keep and also too you can adjust like normal map here and actually adjust not only the normal map but what subdivision level you want that map to be exported at and then uh anything related to it if you need to flip your you know if you need to flip normals for another program you're going to this is how i would export uh anything that you need if you're looking for maps so hopefully that's helpful for you but that's how i would go ahead and do it and we can go ahead and delete that you don't need that i was asking about beveling the belt because it would it already looked like it was sort of done oh yeah i just have um so what i have right now to go to the bevel is it's just low poly but it's using dynamic so it's super low i just have the edge loops to support that not a problem glad i could be helpful all right hey how's it going winston how are you doing get this back to what we want there and now we're gonna use the move brush start playing with his beard beard going i'm actually going to go ahead and turn on brush and acucurve want that to be a little pointy pointy yep and a little pixel sales don't make me feel salty about my price purchases at all and it's crazy to think like had been i've owned zbrush for like six years now crazy crazy all right let's come over here go to a z modeler let's actually add some supporting edge loops this is how i do beveling usually and then when i hit d it kind of bubbles that up a bit and now what i'm going to do is i'm going to mask that flip that over kind of actually going to tap that right there so that it follows and i squish that up i'm actually going to leave a pivot point here as if that was done on purpose like he's that's the mechanical part of him being able to uh to laugh that way so we're actually gonna keep that on purpose and maybe what we'll do is we'll actually add a little bit of like rivets in the back so it makes it look good doing well thanks uh hey thanks for recommending the lychee slicer it's pretty sweet awesome dude yeah i i enjoy it out of out of the majority of slicers i've dealt with is one of my favorites go ahead and add a couple more here edge loops that is there we go yeah we could probably add a little bit of like bolts or rivets or something i think that would be kind of cool give it a little bit of a a little bit of our own flip okay what we're going to do here is actually now uh delete one of his arms pose it and then copy that over and finish posing it so i'm going to turn off symmetry and we're gonna go ahead and delete hidden done a lot so we're gonna save so in 3d printing i can give the illusion of something like a helmet chainmail with noisemaker but i can use the poly mesh for bringing a chainmail rest character into in a game engine i can use the polymesh for me i that's i don't know i am definitely i am not somebody who works in games so i'm not quite sure um if you could do that or not i would say try it i don't think it could hurt um my experience with games uh workflow is very limited since i work with toys but i definitely i would say try it that's the best thing or maybe reach out to um you know maybe like shane olsen might know that but yeah i i don't know and it's moments like these that i wish i did i'm gonna do i'm gonna back the suppers i'm going to go ahead and delete hidden on that and then i'm going to bring this over here and we're going to go bend curve you know what let's just rebuild his arms it's going to be way easier we're going to do that that's what we're going to do there's a delete that we're going to come over here like church and we're going to go back and we're going to use an imen there was definitely i believe it was all right not mean to do that let's go to stroke go to curve and let's go as a line and let's turn symmetry off it's something it did not like there we go basically going to rebuild his arm at this point and what i'm going to do is take this bring this out here in the middle and we're let's actually split this actually splits a split mast or in this case split on map rename this arm sometimes it's okay to start over if you just aren't quite sure if uh that will end up working for you that's what we're doing here also going to go ahead and kind of zoom in a little bit at that a little bit straighter so that we have something a bit more usable that works yeah perfect uh let's see here um would you most likely be using height maps you'd most likely be using height maps to create that effect under normal circumstances any real-time engine will struggle with the number of polygons required to render for something like email yeah i agree uh that's i mean because yeah you have to keep i mean having your high poly bank to your low poly that's one way of doing it but yeah i agree with that uh okay gotcha i'll just mess around with unity and unreal a little bit typically done by baking noise into normal map yep okay all right what we're going to do is we're going to make some changes here what i don't know let's actually go [Music] a little bit smaller next stretch head over just a bit maybe a little bit i'm gonna start doing some manual stuff here break that close together [Music] this doing a little bit of some manual crushes here doing this because it's just the way i can think about doing yeah let's actually sew this you guys if anyone's new here um i'm definitely the brute force type that will just if i can't think of a technical way to do it um i just do it the way i know that i can get it to work so you're sitting there thinking wow why doesn't he do this that's why just heads up that's how ir do it okay gotcha all right cool it's a long way home hey okay last one oh like that okay great beautiful that looks like his arm which is what we kind of need fill that up drop it down a little bit i'm actually gonna bring this over like such and i'm actually going to turn on local sieve and just kind of we're now manipulating this however we need to and now we're gonna go ahead and do a bend curve and add a couple touch this way we can just kind of bend his arm the way we want it to now we're actually going to tap this one here let's do something first let's go first isolate all the things we need i'm going to merge his hands together i'm going to go ahead and merge down yep and merge down yep perfect now i'm gonna go ahead and split one of his arms or his hands off that we're gonna go ahead and split hidden so sub tool split and split it will you still be doing uh streams on zbrush for some time to come um i'm here as long as everybody here as long as people want me here did you just make an ir pun i did i did yeah you got me got me um yeah i mean uh this is my last stream for the year um my last personal stream for the uh solo stream for the year um and then i will pick it back up in january i just wanted to take the last couple weeks off because this it's always funny how like towards the end of the year things get stupid stressful for no reason and you're just like oh my god five minutes so that's all so when i meant like yeah i'll be i'll be taking the rest of the this will be my last stream of the year it's just literally of the year we'll be right back in january doing all the things that we do best having fun taking names while doing it yeah okay what we're going to do is now change our hands positions a little bit make them just a little bit this one will be down a little bit more like this and a little bit higher a little bit higher [Music] now when we complete one of these hands we'll use this as a placement so there much that's where it needs to be hands are a little tiny little tiny air just slightly lower slightly lower now we'll notice that we are but w i'm actually going to back this up and reason why is because i do want to taper it and i should have done that first so reset actually going to go with a taper here let's taper the new way i'm gonna go ahead and actually uh here that was just one that's just something masked often am i just being weird yeah yeah you are oh damn it it's just a little bit of a tape there we go and let's go ahead and that's that that was it that was more work than earth here this the thing that we wanted to do uh what's the transpose box thing you were using to move the arm i am using uh so the transpose box i'm actually with the gizmo or did w for a second with the gizmo we have this little cog wheel right here so i'm actually using bend curve which is one of the options to bend this get this shaped the way i would like it be and i'm getting um and with this uh with this orange cone i'm actually able to adjust the resolution or how i did it so i can actually get a little bit more accurate of a bend and also too it's just going to be a lot more cleaner than if i were to move this using the move so kind of just manipulating this the way i need it and i have dynamic on so um and when i'm happy with something i'll actually up the resolution like this this around a bit just as needed it's really cool because the super non-destructive and reset this anytime i want if i don't like it this allows me to make these changes pretty well and we're gonna and what's really cool here in a minute is i'm gonna show you that i'm gonna be able to duplicate that and actually uh reset that feature so moving into a little bit more of an asymmetrical uh pose here so making those changes on the fly i'm gonna give them kind of a bigger chest too what i have on is i have on accu curve which is under brush in my bigger chest kind of round his shoulders a bit a little bit more like the concept uh let's see here that's the transpose brush are you talking about the gizmo oh that wrap around this will that wrap around this here it'll move wherever i need it to be your intensity should be 99 or lower on the bend with the gizmo it doesn't work at 100 ah is that what it is thanks man i want it to be a hundred still getting used to that new feature that's it's on me thanks yeah appreciate it all right so go ahead and that done done diddy do you now what's really cool guys is if i like this shape but i want to repeat this if i hit ctrl shift d and hit w again and move this there we go there's 100 thing you were talking about move that over there we go so what i could do is actually manipulate this create a different arm or a different uh just by duplicating it and then hit w and my points are still active which is really nice and instead of redoing all that work that way what i can do hit w with that cog wheel and hit reset w and move this over and now i have my secondary arm i hit w again drop the resolution and maybe start with this arm just like i can start working on that second arm really really quickly so i don't have to go through that whole entire process again now we're going to try to make this super prince friendly so like you know as little supports as possible with 3d printing so you know we're not just going resin here i'm going to be burying his arms into his abdomen a little bit a little bit of it looking for knife ah okay my brain is still functioning on four or seven wow yeah i know it's crazy like zebras has has evolved so fast in the last year alone that like it's hard to keep up with us crazy in the best way possible for crazy okay now we have this which works out fairly well we're going to keep the uh bend curve active not going to adjust that too much not yet use that as a separation marker as we're going to add the futurama logo here in a second so let's actually make this kind of a gray little stand let's fill that up and then i'm actually going to take a section right here mask that off push that down just go and now we'll take the futurama logo and we'll put the futurama logo right there which will start kind of tying the room together let's go ahead and save it now i did a little prep work before the stream uh but i'll tell you guys what i did what i did was i took the logo which uh i went to basically you uh google and looked up the futurama uh logo itself and then i went ahead and took that into uh illustrator and i actually created a svg and by doing that i was able to um i'm actually able is to import an svg by going to right when i know it 3d text and vector shapes and go to new svg and i have a futurama logo here that i built open i have this guy right here and this is really really cool i'm able to utilize this logo uh this way so we'll rebuild hello which cat cross hey crochet what's up sis that's my chest hello how are you guys doing all right uh what's really cool is actually i'm gonna go ahead and delete this real quick are you going to do it you just brought it in because i'm going to show you something real quick if you are importing svgs at any time it is important to actually up this resolution i always do that so i go here to resolution i set it three i kick it up to ten it just gives you a better resolution extrusion that's up to you single side geometry if you want it gives you zero this is yeah it's usually fine and then we'll go ahead and say new and import it there it is there it is now we have this one right here we're gonna go ahead and what happened to my face what happened to my base my base is gone okay so if you accidentally do what i just did and delete something it's you know that happens i'm gonna go load the last save file real quick and i'm gonna go ahead and copy and then i'm gonna come back and hit paste that's gonna bring that in come here get all yeah there we go are we gonna beat me and we'll go ahead and resave this yes yep that's me okay now let's go ahead and focus on this logo for a second now the logo of futurama is now that i have a basic vector so i like to go to googly googly and then i this is all i did on my logo png and so it's red to a dark red and then it's a yellow frame so we're going to replicate that by just using this as reference so first things first i'm going to go ahead and duplicate this so i have a copy now i'm going to paint this red go ahead and fill object and then i'm going to go ahead and what are you going to do we're going to turn the sideways i'm going to mask it and i'm going to go ahead and use that slice curve trick because i want to basically create a curve all the way evenly on each one and the way you could do it it with z modeler is that you'd be going z modeler and then of course go on the edge and then do inserts multi loop right and then you could just kind of tap each one every time but that takes too much time and who has time for that so we're just going to mask it nice curve and then i'm going to go ahead and that creates an edge loop all the way through each and every one of those letters in one shot super nice and we add a bit of transparency to our mesh material if so do you think we could possibly fake the look of lens in glass and monocles absolutely yes you actually can let me finish this thought and then i'll show you if i remember how to do it yep been a while but a little bit i'm gonna go ahead and that right there yeah that real quick there we go so now i can take this edge right here polygroup all and then we're going to just we go what happened there let's actually let's see if we can collapse edge loop let's come here hover over that inset oh funny okay weird has all of those edge loops that is tense the edge you could do it you could do it you could do it over there insert yeah i want to collapse them oh that guy that got kind of crazy okay well he can work with that see if actually we could do [Music] right q actually yeah that should be the same difference at this point so let's go extrude let's actually we'll do is we'll just kind of mask this section right here and then app right there we'll just kind of we'll make this a point just brute force it what ian does that's fine okay that's going to be good though you know what the other thing we could do thanks a zbrush billion of course you know when you pulled back part of the lettering app reminded me of the letter that's used in bioshock oh that's cool that was really cool now that part's given me a little bit of a of a situation here so i want to i want to fix that i want to address that happening on the a as well now you know what maybe what we can do is actually come here and hold control get that going like such and we can tap that let's go ahead and let's try something let's do delete hidden and close holes ooh that's ugly no [Music] we love i mean having to figure stuff out let's see here let me think if i want to approach this let me see you know what let's do this let's actually let's crease polygroups let's try to subdivide a little bit i'm going to try something real quick so we're creased poly groups we're going to set divide a little bit and then we're going to go ahead and delete lower so that we have a denser mesh and we're going to keep poly groups keep creases turn this up and see if we can actually clean this up a little bit let's see if that works in our favor yeah geometries it's really interesting what i could do too is try to re-import it at a lower resolution and see if that actually fixes my problem which we should probably do that because i'm just going to get a little bit of of funky stuff here so let's let's actually come in here let's try this one more time but that that's that might be a game on you don't do that um and so when i brought it in with a different resolution actually go really low let's go let's go one let's turn off adaptive let's put this over here because it keeps closing on me go to turn off adaptive maybe just turn extrusion off there we go that might be a little bit better yeah let's do that then we can edit this here we go you know what we just went extrusion of zero and let's let's see if we can fix it this way because this is crazy right now see when i delete an edge loop it just crushes that so we can he kind of fixes a little bit i think might be better that's might to be a lot better okay cool let's try that so we're gonna actually gonna duplicate this and on this one here off let's go z modeler hover over here polygroup will extrude this straight on out the other side we have something like that i'm going to go ahead and increase paul gabries and then b for are you giving me i didn't work either let's try this one more time this is this is something so let's see ah there we go beautiful that looks a little bit cleaner cool cool i can live with that yeah all right that looks better down a little bit oh there we go i like that okay i just took a minute to figure out the right setting which nine times out of ten that's the best thing to do just go ahead and play with the resolution until you find something that you want you can even add a bevel if you would like uh i don't usually mess with that too too much though but that's typically the start of at so let me save it real quick and then let's tackle that glass question yep ryan i was thinking about that too just join this live what are you doing there hey states i am actually was just troubleshooting my svg import and i got it pretty good we are building a futuroma robot a really simple fun little thing that basically going to try to finish in the stream and then we'll end up uh from there just over i'll be releasing it for people to 3d print if they would like i'm going to rename this gogo perfect okay let's go ahead and mask that and we're going to go ahead and pop that right there yay same thing as polygroup the sound effects in boop boop there we go hover over this edge right here and even from here we can make this color fill object that turn the bin all that we're going to add an edge loop really really close right about there edge loop right there we're adding some supporting edge loops so that we can get a pretty clean edge okay now i'm going to select this right there perfect i'm going to do switch this over to red we're going to go ahead and go color fill object like that and we're actually going to pick a darker red just going to take the little much put that intensity down a bit get a little bit of a gradient not trying to go too nuts with it there we go aless down get that fairly close to where we want it to be cool go ahead and crease well gabriel so we're gonna the resolution a little bit they subdivision three delete lower let's save it more time alternately delete all the back faces and zebra mesh increase the border then extrude in depth yep that's a good way to do it too man will this be a tree ornament like last year uh we could definitely i mean we could put a little hook on his head that'd be pretty cool i did the tardis last year i think what render engine do i use it depends on what it is i'm actually doing um i like armor set if i'm going to use uh more of a game engine but um i like you rendering i like using keyshot and the zbrush bridge to keep well the project that text onto the monitor yeah i'm going to project this yeah i seriously i'm actually going to turn everything else off except for this right here and now what i'm going to do real quick here going to actually back this up just a smidget here i want to come in with the z modeler real fast i'm gonna re-poly group this here like that i'm going to extrude this out oh i'm gonna make that all yellow again perfect okay i should probably do that with the a2 make sure we do that with everything we need to two a's go touch we could pull that back out that guy go and color phil hey perfect now what i'm going to do is let's go ahead and light up a little bit lower and then i'm going to use actually where are we at [Music] do see you where are we going matchmaker turn uh rgb off for a second scale that down like that now i'm going to go ahead and just use matchmaker which will give me that nice curve i can actually press that back into the model i actually want to do that get that closer let's push out kind of wraps around a little bit sometimes it takes a minute to get the right one that can be right there which is pretty cool now let's turn everything else on now we have futurama right there on the uh i said chris paul gabries that's how i remember i love ben ark is handy for this as well hey daisuke hello hello come in man what are you doing must be really early for you right now i'm glad to have you here dude okay let's go ahead and get these and that's the rest of the way at 11 am oh nice okay that's not too bad now we're going to be 3d printing this model nothing too crazy just going to be setting it up to just print we'll try and we'll try to make it uh fdm friendly as they say a little this is just a little fun side project nothing too nothing too crazy you know that is right there those eyes can be deleted not quite sure what they're doing now because we move this character what we're going to be doing is we're actually going to use posable symmetry yeah the model was moved just possible symmetry will allow me to kind of readjust things equally even though it's just slightly off center i had to figure out how to do those tiers here yeah for a future browser just it's just for fun yeah nothing too crazy keeping the art in it last little last little project we're subdividing now because we're getting to the point where i mean this is pretty simple model add a little bit of hair here's a bit of a lip that we just don't have yet i'm gonna push this down to from his mouth we go heath by creating a little bit of a lip like the standard brush at this point we'll just start creating that lip around a bit yeah futurama that's it i need this my pc is an i5 or 460 intel graphics just what you need i will be giving this steel away for free guys as a merry christmas to everyone i'm gonna i'm trying to finish it tonight welcome in guys welcome man anyone getting the pixel newsletters like a weekly uh i i get them all the time in my email i'm terrible at reading them but yup around zbrush i'm pretty much zbrush runs really well on a lot of systems even older systems don't try to crank the polly's up to like you know 80 million okay we're actually going to start at this point going to render preview ao bring this bad boy on a little bit lets me see depth a little bit more yeah but surely explode that's what zbrushcore is for [Music] just the last in arabic all right all right let's start let's start officially cleaning up his body a little bit more fine to be get him a little bit more how many polish do you think of ryzen 7 3700 which hit with no issues um uh that's a good question i have the ryzen 7 hold on i think i have the 3600 um i have the ryzen 7 3600 i think actually so i guess i can speak on this um i've hit pretty high numbers i've actually hit up to uh um 65 75 million no problem it gets a little buggy but you know we can handle it we're gonna start i'm going to soften that because now we're going to go here reset this and now let's go that focal shifts go back there we go uh please let it in a little bit now let's fix that hand the rest of the way so we're gonna touch the arms to the body so that it welds correctly at the right time same over here this often it yep symmetry is off because my model is uh not symmetrical anymore just slightly off symmetrical yeah there we go all right let's now officially fix this hand because it looks ugly ah let's see here um four cores four cores the money is up to the three step ah i feel you dude sorry um but yeah would depend on his eyes hello from brazil hello okay take this guy let's insert e go here single there we go you're not a bother man you're not a bother don't even script that alt a couple times i want to give a little bit of uh depth and let's actually add this edge loop here and this here here i'm actually going to blow this part up real quick the bigger oh you know that's why at vocal shifts local shifts i gotta get used to that there we go okay cool now we can adjust this the rest of the way oh yeah sorry yes the transparency thing i got the strategy sorry you're absolutely right okay you let's do it sorry man yeah let's totally do it and then i ignore you okay let's go let's let's create something kind of fun let's let's create a little bit of a monocle real fast no you're not being a bother i'm the one who's like yeah let's show you there and then i ignore you so that's that's not me okay so let's go ahead and create something like this we'll just create like a simplistic monocle just for demonstration purposes um so we're gonna go ahead and rate this right there let's actually mirror and weld this so fast on the dead x that so then what we can happen is we can go ahead and do insert actually you know real quick from that home perfect i want to do active symmetry at that there like that ouch here let's go with poly group we're going to like the edge have a little bit of a difference come here cue mesh it after i actually duplicate that i'm gonna push that in so now we have this kind of lens shape go insert just kind of quickly create something like that right and then we're going to take this which is our lens just scale that down our lens right here okay and we'll make this we'll make this a a white color we'll make this a kind of gold color there we go now when you want to make something transparent as i remember it so let's hope that this that this works we have kind of a monocle thing here you actually want to utilize the reflected materials more than anything else so we have the reflected map uh one and two um i don't think it really matters which one to use but if you select that one right there and then we go to material fill our material i'm actually going to go back to maybe like kind of a metallic one this and then we'll fill this well now we need to come back here so now we have two different materials you come back to this one this has been a while so we need to go to display properties bpr settings and then we actually need to do bpr transparent shading turn that on it's going to say the transparent option in the render palette is currently turned off would you like to turn on transparent render property yes yes you do okay then if we were to go ahead and render we now have something of a see-through now it's kind of hard to see so let's actually insert let's just insert another uh object kind of just put that back there we'll even scale it down right so when i render i can see through my object because now the glass is setting and that's super important and if you want that render setting i believe dpr uh render proper where is that yeah right here transparent if you have transparent turned off it won't actually work all that well so that's why it asks you so if you forget just come up here to render properties transparent and now that will be on now what's really cool is that's just the beginning of it what you can do now is you can actually go back to display properties and you can actually play with the bpr visibility and vpr shadow so you can actually change the visibility a bit re-render and get more of a cloudy feel to that you can even probably add a material color rgb let's go ahead and right here let's actually add a color to that and now we have kind of a blue hue to that so you get like a little bit of a blue tense and again if you change the bpr shadows or visibility that's gonna play a factor with what the effect is if we zoom in here and play with that shadow notice this little shadow line down here if we turn this off now it's all the way see through at this point so you can give a little bit of a shadow here material blend of something you could play with and then of course the visibility like i said before so you can kind of get that going through if we turned off the transparent shading then that gives us a nice little so it just depends but using that reflective that reflective map let's come up here let's actually change this i don't think it matters but let's do it go and let's put this back yeah so it doesn't matter this is the two you want to do that is what i've been talking about every time i ask other streamers okay cool so that worked that this is what you this works for you making sure that yeah i've done this a few times this was super fun actually a model i did a while ago i utilize this a lot let me see if i can find it real quick i gotta just quickly scrub through i did this some time ago let me see if i still have it um because i utilized this feature and i thought it was so cool and um let's see here let's go oop 2021 i believe it was fidget in 2020. i actually think i did in 2020 that's how long ago it was go back here 2020 was hp uh did a harry potter thingy a while ago where are we just look it up real fast let's go fast how does it look with the bpr render well this is the bpr render here i'm sure you'd want to actually uh so it just depends on how it but this is the h like you know this is the bpr render we come up here because you know shift shift r just hits that switch so this is how it look and then of course you know you just it just depends on everything else only so you can find that thing real fast remember saving it a while ago crazy i've done so many things over the last year it's insane you know i forget what i named things after i can't find it yeah i have no idea where even put it it doesn't really matter it's indifferent but yeah yes i'm the oculars thank you hey yep there it is oh i named it something it's ridiculous okay here let me just uh okay there it is um let's see here let me let me see if this was it maybe it wasn't finished okay yeah so yep so this was this is what i had done in uh i built this in zbrush loop and then i think what it does with this material so display transparent shading on i just make sure that's right yeah so add to turn it on for each piece of glass shading transparent shading go to render transparent is turned on i think with this one transparent shading then yeah so this is something i built a little while ago naming files character 28 blah blah blah exactly yeah uh okay so you still can't move the model or it isn't transparent anymore yeah so yeah it can't stay transparent only with the bpr setting so yeah so you're moving the model around and then you're like okay you know here's here's everything under the sun this is this is what i'm looking for you know visibility change it down whatever and then as soon as you render it that will give you the uh transparency as you need it of course if you do that with poly loops turned on so that's so yeah it can't stay on that's too much work for zbrush thanks oh thanks man yeah yeah this was so this was this was a really fun project i did this in a couple hours so yeah it just it won't be able to stay on that's the unfortunate part but at the end of the day you know if you want a really cool render you know that's when you can you can adjust all your other stuff and then have that transparency turned on you're gonna have ss or wax preview turned on and boom make it look fancy so sometimes what i find is sometimes you know just playing with those settings and really just adjusting it it just you know you can get some really cool effects yeah i always learn something new every stream so i need to realize that i've been using zebras okay fan and i still brute force everything myself so don't feel bad i mean like it's almost near impossible for everybody to know everything in zbrush that's why we're here we're here to help and thanks casey for the name i couldn't remember to save my life harry potter fan for the win okay come on back let's get this hand fixed mixed up we want to make this kind of look a little bit better so right now it looks terrible so hopefully that answered your question by the way uh chris i know uh it could be i know it could be uh kind of a it could be an interesting process trying to get that looking the way you want um you know what though if you guys if you guys look up and i'll show you paul gabry did a video a really good video that you guys have to check out um so if you go to youtube and then um you see my search history and you're like hey what is he like um if you go here and then you type in um bbrush coffee coffee maker machine or coffee machine and you watch this what's really cool is he covers that so definitely check this out i'm going to post it right here boom brute force is legit absolutely but uh poggy ray actually covers in depth a lot with the uh transparency and the way to really utilize it because at one point too he actually shows you objects within objects and then he even shows you how to make an object look like it's shell because glass is you know it's not just single-sided it's not just a solid thing it's actually like you know it's a lens it has two two sides to it so he really goes in the depth with that too so check that out to get a little bit more in depth on the bpr um and now you actually might see my comments pop up because i was in there at the time that that happened that was really really cool all right they're cleaning up these thingies and again we're actually going to be printing this so we want this to kind of just be merged on and you know make this all one piece so we're actually going to kind of give it a little bit of we have to make it all connecting so that it's super super friendly printing actually you know what we're going to do we're going to go to our brush and back face masking back a little warming up before i watch the last harry potter quiz show tonight yeah i actually think i watched this and i'm going to go back to it heck yeah run off that back face characters fingers are like so ridiculously simple and i want to do like more to them but then just like these little nubbins oh actually start getting this looking a little bit more [Music] round in a little bit i think brute force is probably the best way to do everything now let's finalize this let's actually subdivide a little bit let's go to geometry delete lower and then now we're going to merge things together to make it look pretty good hit the expose button for effect that doesn't make any sense and then we're going to do is we're going to geometry we're going to dynamesh but here's the cool thing actually let's go do uh geometry we're going to go to dynamesh and this is really cool before i dynamesh what i used to do when i had different uh sub tools meshed together and i wanted to dynamesh it i just kind of guessed the dynamesh resolution and try to get a good one but now we have picker i pick picker where we grab picker and we pick a resolution that makes sense on the model that we like and then turn off blur hit dynamesh and now you have a really consistent resolution to your viewport super awesome and i love it and then we're going to do is we're going to use sk brushes because you guys know i love plaques brushes and you guys should download them too because they're awesome i have clay fill i'm going to do is actually come around here and we're going to oh we're going to blend this together get that looking pretty nice do you know what we should do with that one use a slash brush here in a second or not slash actually use a a crease brush and make a nice little crease there kind of blend that in gloves so i want to make it look like one piece i don't know if you ever try to brute force procedural geometry in houdini but i can i confirm that is definitely at least the expectation that proves the nice man nice i have not played with houdini i've never played with that program i'm not that most of my what's funny is most of my 3d modeling experience actually comes from uh just like programs like called mastercam solidworks back when i was in aerospace that was the majority of my 3d modeling so when i moved to zbrush like it was such a different experience i just kind of jumped in there ooh that's good thank you thank you so much now we're going to actually take his carve brushes sk carve and we're going to turn off our gb that kind of that's too much just want to get this in there a little bit more kind of like the quick dirty way of making it look like it's a separate piece using the car brush to come through here just kind of give it a little bit of a lip that's very a sculptural way of doing things off i'm actually just going to grab the basic mask and give me a decent thrust dynamesh now i could kind of i'm actually going to take the inflate we say inflate but it's actually like in flat i'm actually gonna go here and just come along the edge inflate it a bit oh it looks a little bit it looks like a separate piece but it's still the same piece now at the resolution and now we'll dynamesh that go now dynamesh to me always looks a little like rough and and so we're going to z-remesh that now and i'm going to this is what i'm going to do we're going to go ahead and actually what we're going to do back this up for a second because i'm actually going to grab this and went back and with the mask ctrl w to give us just a different poly group i'm actually going to zebra mesh this and i like the zebra mesh with poly groups with complex shapes like this because i think it really brings uh really helps to control and get better edge loops something like that actually with this one because it's close to the color we'll make it just a little bit different and then we're going to go to deformation [Music] polish by groups which will give me a little bit of a cleaner edge we're going to keep groups up the resolution to like a 2 and a control tap so that we have a history store point and then we're gonna go ahead and zero match oh dusk hey i was watching channel i'm a heck yeah i went the other way from being a programmer so i like to automate as much as possible ooh nice nice i actually want to get more into z scripts i feel like i have all these ideas to create scripts that i have i've never played with this is one feature in all of zbrush i've tried once or twice panicked and then put it away nothing with it all right so now we have some decent edge loops and poly group control i'm going to go ahead and oh hello oh oh doing that thing again okay and we're going to go ahead and project history unable to record no i didn't did i click something brush strokes air he dies gay you actually know why this happens i usually just restart zbrush at this point oh my gosh win tab errors oh yeah yeah yeah you do i thought there was a way of getting rid of that but i couldn't remember i thought it was something under preference but i was just going to turn it off and on again because i don't know the cause of that error anyway you have the stroke record selective i don't think so that i hit something fat with my fingers i'll go to uh stroke inventory okay hold on a second there we go enter up there it is hey cool thanks buddy that always drove me nuts i don't know what happened okay cool okay cool yay thanks man everybody go uh follow daisuke okay thank you if you're not already if you're not why okay so i have oh yeah record set to three ah okay matcha would that make sense yeah my fat finger is coming in hot that's good to know that explains so many things right now actually [Music] okay hey okay okay actually move this around [Music] next up hey what's up blue riva uh let's see uh do you know any way i can apply a texture map of a model to my current sculpt as like paint spent a lot of time on the other model textures i want it on my new one okay um so it's a pre it's a it's like you duplicated it and you have a texture map and you just want to apply it so what you should be able to do with any if you have a texture map for a model and and it's like you're coming in from another program or you created it and you want to add it so you duplicate you want to add all you should be able to do um is just go down to the selected like select your your um your sub tool to go to texture map and if it's not here you can either import from this area or you can go to texture and import but if it's from another sub tool with that selected sub tool it should be active or you can just hit clone texture if that option should be available go to the sub tool with the texture that's on there hit clone texture that will propagate up here in the texture map so let me see so for example but you know if the uvs aren't the same the texture map isn't going to wrap the same so there is a little bit of a different if they have different textures um if they have different textures that map won't work on that model per se so you would what you would want to do is actually see if you can copy the uvs on over if they have very similar uh mesh so maybe like if let's say if it's a hand you're able to then uh you know kind of mirror over the hands and then copy the uvs from one to another that might work out for you if they have different uvs the texture map you have won't fit that new uv wrap it just just won't not that i'm aware of record this is handy for repeating the strokes but yeah sometimes if you hit three it's going to eat up that stroke record a lot good to know yeah so that yeah so as far as i'm aware of you have to have the same uvs on the model with the texture that's that's typically how it works yeah sorry i wish i had wish i had a better answer if somebody knows different please please answer but i'm pretty sure that's that's all it is like for example you know i mean yeah you know that's that's about it so i'm gonna say i'm just gonna basically duplicate this this hand on over and then use the same hand the same way so like what's here's a really cool trick if you guys want to know if you guys want to duplicate a hand um you can use mirror and weld you can delete your subdivisions here and weld that and then let's say i want this to be a hand by itself delete hidden then you can reconstruct that subdivision and then just use that hand separately it's always a fun little way of doing i love this um my favorite song out of all the okay let's do that actually take this pass that off okay just make this hand just a little like just a little different pass that there give it a little bit of a creep sometimes just a little bit of a difference is all you need actually that's a little too funky add this thumb up a little bit more like such actually take this one actually like the difference okay work on these tears okay the tears that's gonna be the hardest part when i say hardest part i mean hardest part for printing um i have an idea actually that will work for a resin for sure don't know if it'll work for ftm i think we can do something with it i think we can we can we can focus on this let's crease paul gabries and then let's go to dynamic subdivision okay cool that there these would be helpful if you turn rgb on color in there let's get let's see if we can do some tears here i can cry and we're just going to put the tiers under a new thing so let's go insert and let's go sphere and let's put this in a folder called tears and we'll make it blue so we can see what's in okay do this right here let's open this up so this will be the fun part to figure out actually go here go bend curve up one resolution cut out a little bit from from spheres to tears 3d modeling 101 right yeah something really really simple okay because of what we're going to be trying here this will be very interesting we're going to go ahead and kind of see if we can link these together make them touch a way that like makes sense but would still print this is going to be interesting i'm going to go ahead and ctrl shift d so when you have when you have uh any type of like curve mode bend curve whatever you have when you have this active in the um uh from the gizmo so we have band curve active so i've done this before today but you know so when you have ctrl shift d that's going to duplicate the sub tool and that's going to keep the curve the the the curve active it's going to be nice so we can play around with that a bit more so we're going to w we can kind of play around with reshaping this a bit that's this one right here that now if i were to try to scale that down it's okay but if i try to rotate oh that works out cool okay be nice very good control shift d take that down i will create a balance point right here on his cheek that trick here will be making this look a little dynamic so now that parts touching here just like that so that could actually that could work we'd want to print this actually pretty big you know but this could actually work out pretty well keeping them touching now if you wanted to print this yes this might work out well oh cheeky oh my god oh my stars look at you now we're going to go ahead and vary the size of these tiers hold shift d uh i secretly love it now hit w again let's actually arc this that one's touching a little bit w again kind of scale that down that will go up like that cool and what we can do now is we can actually marine weld all this stuff so if we were to reset this was going to shut that off and i'm okay with that for now let me come here now let's go ahead and mirror and weld if you mirror welds you can mirror welds from right to left if there's nothing on the left if we take an item like this and go ahead and hit air and weld it's going to mirror weld that here and then marijuana now go ahead and do let's do the auto groups groups underground groups you just get let's just merge everything together i don't know i did it the hard way don't follow me don't do what i do okay okay now i'm gonna auto group it now i'm literally just past that come over here and we're gonna basically just create the same thing we're gonna rotate that push that back and we'll change the scale of i get a little different maybe make it look up a little bit more it's not so symmetrical oh we'll push that over but it's still touching that part right there there we go now i do this a lot where i get rid of the gizmo but the gizmo is active and one thing is selected everything else is mass go ahead and you know shift touch that other one and then that will like just the one that you need and then let over a layout like such yeah i i do think that third way i need to do it the other way okay and we'll go ahead and actually you know what this one will be dripping off at his cheek hardy's that's a hardy's nothing boom now all of those are touching that kind of works that works out well i think that works oh there we go save it if it's on the wrong side you can use the mirror in the deformation menu to switch it across the axis yes you can absolutely do that um me being the lazy person that i am instead of doing that as long as it's on the as long as there's nothing else on that sub tool on the left side and you just want to mirror it over from right to left you can do that um but yeah that's that's also the other side so good call out okay now let's clean this up a little bit because getting we're getting closer [Music] actually gonna go ahead and splits hidden oops it in perfect i want to control just go there's gonna add a little bit of detail coming in the belt is just so massive right now so let's fix that in next search all right this thing hates her actually i don't even think we need that what is this we don't need that go ahead and i didn't delete you don't need that piece we don't need now what we can do let's grab grab this stuff here add a little bit more work better like nope does not i don't like it like i think like that's fine simple and fun now we're just going to start cleaning it up and we can make it a solid little miniature ornament people can print add a little bit we'll add some detail here widen out it sides a bit now the hardest part will be printing this little guy right here and that's probably going to round this little okay it's a little all right now i'm just kind of fine tuning a little bit just finding some of the shapes that i really really like i'm going to keep it as you know as faithful as possible then there we go that should be looks like it's wrapping around a bit we get a little bit of a little bit of a lip clean that up a bit now little smidget just that focal shift i still have back face turn um we'll now actually return back face on right now i'm gonna correct that just that down i feel like i kind of just broke it what happened here what did i do everything did everything yeah let's clear that okay let's actually try this again back face just done i feel like backface should be turned on like always yeah that's gonna work all right so we got 11 7 it's 11. it's 7 11 so we have about 50 minutes or so left go ahead and just start cleaning up a little bit we'll do some more size adjustments more painting and then we'll make it we'll put a little hook on his head that'll be fun center actually scale that up and we'll drop that down a little bit i'm a little bit more of a ridge yeah that actually turn off let's get this a little bit more round i feel like it's just a little too sharp at the top i'm going to hover over this edge we're going to do slide complete edge loop kind of bring that more in the middle be just a little bit more round now let's see here we're gonna if we're gonna hang him we want to think of the physics a little bit so if we're gonna hang him from this point he's probably gonna be hanging more like that if i put it there i have them kind of leaning back a little bit okay that that's that should work let's do that and we're just gonna add a simple hook i'm not gonna be too crazy about it insert add a ring that red perfect degrees i did that a little bit of an ornament ring right and if we want that a little bit thicker let's just go to deformation and we'll just inflate it that'll be good put a little hook there let's actually with his eyes let's actually inflate that a little bit now we're going to start adding some more final colors and to do that i'm actually just going to up the resolution but before i up the resolution i'm actually going to turn dynamic off i'm going to turn on z modeler we're going to go insert and we're going to go multi edge loop but we're also going to keep poly groups i'm just going to increase that a bit so when we subdivide we're going to actually be able to paint that with ease the inside of his mouth is going to be a little a little harder to do that's the inside and same with that i'll end up painting that fairly well that it's a little weird happen that has shifted a bit so let's move that back i must have missed the text section looked really nice from what i saw oh thanks yeah the um what i did was actually i took a logo from google um and then what i had done was i actually created a svg and then i brought that svg in used it to create the 3d model and then i just uh what was it use matchmaker to get it to the shape pretty sure what happened let's get that back where we want it cool and now what i'm going to do is i'm actually going to take poly paints and just to kind of have that stand out let's just go with like a darker gray maybe back not true black but dark enough i'll make his teeth stand out a bit a bit more same thing here let's actually drop this give a bit more edge loop okay i feel like i messed something up what happened that let me see something real quick something feels a little is off center let me load project back up one more time there we go okay things do get shifted interesting quite sure where they got shifted i'm going to copy that and that over here actually just paste that okay great wonderful okay one more time for some reason it shifted a bit oh go ahead and correct that that is better yay i'm gonna paint oops let's go ahead and paint oh stop your buttons ian don't do that paint this back let's correct this practice uh if i didn't have the font file i'd probably approach it with an alpha it's a mesh use the formers to curve it but there are many ways to tackle the same thing i know right yeah it's super awesome yeah the way i did it was a little bit more of a uh let's say it's a little bit more of an old school approach but it works and that's what i love about and yeah i mean it's just amazing that there's like 100 ways to do the exact same thing fascinating okay for this dome i'm getting a little bit of weirdness happening here so what i'm going to do is i'm actually going to control history that point not quite sure why it's doing what it's doing and we're going to just de-remesh this i'm actually going to go ahead and delete lower i'm going to go ahead and z-remesh it i'm going to keep it the same i'm going to zero mesh it though just because the way i built it it's it's just being funky so zebra mesh it real quick just to get a little bit more of a even mesh and call it a day on that and they'll just repaint what would you do if some strange reason zbrush ran dynamic sim on its own in the middle of your sculpting all the sub tools dropped to the floor that would be hilarious i'd probably just laugh the cry inside just a little bit okay and then let's actually go half you remesh this a few times it's it's i mean but that would be kind of cool of course if everything ran on the floor if z if the zebra's dynamic sim ran right now um it would crash it drops automatically [Music] okay now that we have something a little bit more usable and now we're going to go ahead and project history we're going to project we're going to project history but not geometry just color now it's a little bit smooth yeah i'm going to delete actually add some i think we should start adding a little bit of like rivet detail that might be kind of and this is where we're gonna use machine parts i think steam nope maybe yep machine parts wow that's layered pattern that's not at all what i picked i was pretty sure i picked industrial parts yeah thank you okay all right let's go ahead and just add some bolts that color there here then we're gonna go ahead and interpolate somewhere come here come on you know where it's at don't do that thing i'm gonna go poly groups a group play gizmo bolts here any advice or things you wish you knew for somebody wanting to get into 3d printing uh any advice the the best advice i would give when it comes to 3d printing is just to don't be afraid to just get in there get your hands dirty try it yourself if you want to get into fdm printing the best advice i'd say is buy a machine that you built follow the instructions most of them are really easy to put together but when you build your fdm printer then you kind of you learn more about that machine so when something goes wrong it's a lot easier to fix if you feel like you're mechanically inclined in any way or can follow instructions i definitely recommend buying a printer that you can assemble yourself they're usually pretty good on the fdm side the resin side wow hold on a second um on the resin side the biggest tip i would actually give for for beginners is safety for big big deal wear safety glasses wear gloves kind of understands that you're getting into manufacturing and manufacturing is it's not it's it's where i'm looking for manufacturing is a process on its own so kind of understanding what you're you're you're getting involved with with resin it's it's a chemical it has a lot of uh components to it that are dangerous or hazardous if you don't do it right so you know with resin printing definitely kind of understand and and really just study what it is and the processes and the in the workflows and stuff i've seen a lot of people just get into resin printing like i bought a machine and they threw stuff in and accidents happen so um safety first but on the actual printing side um study supports a little bit um with resin printing supports are will make or break your print and so take the time don't try to rush it don't look for the magic button kind of there's tons of information out there on youtube see how people are really building their supports up so that way you can really showcase how something is built look for islands really just take your time i spent hours when i was first getting into resin printing kind of learning how the weight was distributed how the prints could held up so little things like that are crucial to the print process because it gets really cut and dry when it comes to resin printing you know once you figure out the cure rates for certain resins once you figure out the process it's kind of simple um but you know the build up to it if you take your time with the resin supports you'll actually get better better results hey cyber dirk how are you doing not much man i'm doing good how are you i still have to take my ftm out of the box take it out of the box chris come on what are you doing take it out build it you'll have to do it hopefully that hopefully that makes sense and that's helpful um but it's fun you know it's just it's a process i spent you know and i reiterate this a bunch of times but i've spent over 12 years in aerospace before i even got into toys and that manufacturing cnc mills 3d printing it teaches you a lot and so you know by the same time because what 3d printing has done is allowed people to manufacture in their homes and so yeah it's really exciting but also too there's a lot of little things so you know study the details jump in you know kind of you know don't be afraid to get your your your feet wet so to speak but you know just understand it is manufacturing it's a process so safety first even on ftm start with pla uh stay away from abs unless you actually understand because abs can be toxic when printing so be very careful with that most people pray with pla with fdm anyway or they print with hips or pet g those are like the three common ones um they don't want to try to print while the temperature is changing so frequently here at the moment ooh that's actually a good point too yeah that's actually great because right now i'm in los angeles and the weather is actually really cold and my printer my resin printer is actually out in my garage but it's dropped as low as like 30 degrees uh fahrenheit um which is cold for california so running prints overnight i've had fails so yeah absolutely i'll have to say my favorite version of santa's american dad oh nice man nice what am i doing awesome kind of getting rid of some of the marbles notice the slight imperfection if you have a resin printer working in the cold just get to uh reptile lamps and make a box out oh nice i didn't even think of that usually because i didn't have to but i like that that's nice also a smoke detector just think yeah perfect um i actually my garage has ventilation so it also doesn't have a lot of insulation yeah they absolutely can yeah printers like to work warm [Music] yeah as long as you have some nice fresh air circulating i have a little vent cut out at the top and then i have a fan blowing around that that that works pretty well and that's what i mean when it comes to the safety aspect it's really good to research that stuff what you know there's a lot of uh really good setups out there you know there are people who have done some fun stuff too where they actually build a box that then has a fan that goes out the window so then they can actually pull all that stuff out they have some where like you can set up filters to make sure that it purifies the air a bit there's there's a lot of ways to do it be safe all right just like little nook here that's like actually cause a little bit of green out we go okay speaking of heat the mini here uh saw the bearded dragon the pet shop and i really wants one nice uh i went overkill on mine because my saturn lives two feet from my desk i have cats with tiny little lungs yeah it's still not complicated yep built a fume hood with an exhaust fan absolutely yeah it doesn't need to be super crazy just need to understand how it goes and yep absolutely actually tomorrow i was thinking of you when i said about building boxes with filters and stuff but it's good it's a rather safe than sorry approach you know okay getting to the point now where i'm pretty much ready to just kind of weld this thing together and get this uh granted park else go let's get that there perfect there we go [Music] yeah perfect they perfect a lot probably say it way too much yes there we go all right start making this uh principle a saturn lives outside of earth well ventilated in the air nice also carbon uh air filters work really well got a part i got a pair of elgoo air filters that sit inside the printer yeah that's a really good one as well let's say the sculpting is hard sculpture geniuses say blessed with awesome driving driving determination get thoughts in the real world is obviously in the day perfect is what we ain't for all right let's see if we can make this um functional i think i really just want this as one piece not going to be that big you know if there's any other little things we can do real fast to this uh she'll save it yeah that's not here he has a little bit you didn't add anything and i think we need to do is start adding subdivision on everything and i got a little and get oh i know here i re taped his belly a bit where we start really just checking everything that's well so he's going to be relatively tiny so we don't need to go crazy on too many details very simple sign some more telling myself yeah all right so what i'd like to do is we'll just start from the top of the list let's save a new one we'll call this four plus finally uh the software i'm using for my on-screen keyboard is actually called uh obs inputs you just google obs inputs it was a pretty simple it was a pretty simple install yeah i don't really that should be fine okay i'm going to do is i'm actually going to delete this folder effects i'm going to go and let's start looking for things need to be dynamically subdivided so i'm going to do is just press down on the keyboard and then just start going through making sure things have subdivisions if they don't so i'm going to add them by just hitting apply yep i apply and hit apply here apply that cool all right now we're going to do is just go back to uh sub tool and then we're going to say all high to make sure that it is everything's at as high as subdivision before we merge everything together and make it dynameshed this final prep yeah no problem uh how far should this noobs bring back our resolution for printing obj and steal filament miniature statues uh for the resolution once you dynamesh things together i always recommend decimating decimating is your best friend i try to keep my sub tools under a million for each for each you know for each sub tool so most slicers can handle that if you could take it lower without breaking it do it but for the most part um a million is is is i mean half a mil is really really good but i've had models as low as 250 000 um actually i've had models as low as like you know 16 but that was a cubes um but yeah everything else if you're trying to hold a really good detail then yeah try to keep it within a mil range that's my recommended number that's not gospel so but you'll see here what i'll do is once everything is um actually uh brought together what i like to do then is come here to merge visible and i'll merge everything into its own up tool like such and then what i'm going to do now because we just want this as one piece this wasn't a super complicated design but what we want to do is actually now uh go ahead and make this a dynamesh model so we're going to come through because again just a little miniature little ornaments um what i'm going to do is go to sub tool i'm going to duplicate this just so we have an extra and then i'm going to go to geometry i'm going to go to dynamesh and now i'm going to look for the densest part of the model that i can see but a picker again i pick that okay so let's actually increase that a bit to about five let's go 6.6 yeah a little over 600 and now we're gonna hit dynamesh and let's see what happens so we went from two mil to three mil which kept the resolution pretty well now we're going to inspect the model and kind of see how this would print and the way i would inspect it is actually we're going to go ahead and take a cube i'm going to insert the basic cube just above it scale that up that incorporates the model that all the way up here now i'm going to turn on live boolean and add that to cut turn off polygroups and what this will do is as i bring this down let's actually add this to white as i bring this down so there's there would be some islands there so that's not going to be 3d printable for fdm easily without supports but we're just going to go through and make sure everything is relatively connected you have some holes in there that actually looks pretty good okay so this would work out really well for resin printing you could print this on fdm at a decent size if you wanted to but because of that spiked ball you know maybe what i would actually do is maybe i'll probably print it like that on fdm you'd have to use supports but that might work out never thought of using the picker for that yeah it's it's so good lightning mesh i picked that absolutely yeah it's the newest feature from 2022. yeah it's so good i love it so that's how you would kind of check your print kind of make sure that it's that it's doing what you needed to do you would need some support in the teeth of course but you know you know what for for a one-piece model that's actually not that bad it would take a little bit longer to actually fit that to be an fdm and i might rethink that a little bit but just based on time and i kind of wanted to have something and most people have resin printers now we'll go with this let's go ahead and just save and we'll call this click this and then we'll call this uh you know i've been in so in love with the new knife function i hadn't really missed i haven't really messed with the other new stuff i know that knife function is so good see before the dynamesh picker though what i used to use is dynamesh master and it was really good and the dynamesh utility it's pretty much the same thing but now with dynamesh picker i don't even have to do that like yeah it's insane okay turn off live boolean it's actually right this guy let's send this home now we're going to scale this up so there you go two two three inches two and a half inches the side what's a good size for an ornament kind of thing now let's go two inches go two inches so we'll make this a one inch cube let's actually let's just send um grab this guy let's rename this i all your ornaments at three all right we'll do three inches three inches perfect love it what i'm gonna do is we're gonna go ahead and we're just going to this will be a one inch cube we're gonna go ahead and we're gonna hold alt tap that little pin i'm gonna come on up drag this up stack this right on top let go it won so i get three of these cubes do that little pin thing auto group it scale this up put this here touch make that a little short here we go perfect grab the one and go ahead and delete hidden and now we're going to go ahead and we're going to go ahead and uh size this so let's go to z plug-in which is over here appended a while ago that scene scale and we're going to go ahead and pick now i'm going to be working in millimeters not to inches so we're going to go ahead and go 2.5 millimeters now going to change this number to 25.4 because i took i made i made three of these stack on top of each other that'll be the size of the model and then i deleted all but one of those so that should be one and 25.4 is equivalent to one inch and the imperial system so and then we're gonna do is go ahead and resize subtools that's gonna scale everything to fit the need and desire of life cool and now with that cube selected that's now my base for measurements i will use this cube for everything i'm going to go ahead and hit set c and scale and say 25.4 millimeter boom and this model is three of these cubes tall and now if i were to take if i were to measure this uh this guy if i were to go back to that same scale he's actually around 3.047 inches in height so that's how i can verify that or 77.39 millimeters in height i've mostly only used knife tool i've only oh that's a bad bad remember mostly only use the knife tools as well but i was briefly complaining about dynamesh resolution changing based on scale and then i noticed the picker button and i completely forgotten about that yep 42 fight height yo yo yo yo what's up carmen welcome in dude got like 10 minutes left you like swooped in here last minute how you doing buddy all right now we can go ahead we call this uh robo and fanta right there now for this i'm going to do just to save resolution and time i'm going to go ahead and solve this out and then we're going to go ahead and hit initialize q cube so it's a tiny little cube just so that i can just have a base model so that's the name of it or with santa right there go ahead and save this is the final the final final and then i save as one more time and then this is the final desi o6 this way i have the final final final final final time fine he just woke up nice all right now we're going to decimate this so with this model here what we're going to do i like to store a history when i decimate something because sometimes if you decimate it damn just enough for a little bit get swept you could put that back but you know that's just this is kind of where we're at okay and now what we're gonna do is we're just gonna go to decimation master i'm going to [Music] because we don't really need the color anymore we're now printing the color was cool did the color but now we're printing we can actually just check out one of these presets and we're going to just go nuts and see what 250 000 polys looks like so we're going from basically four million down um that might be a little too much um if it is we can always adjust this to say a thousand which will be fine but let's just if we're just going to hit it robot final underscore final final score finally dice that's the only way i do things bro it's the only way i do it all right let that process i literally the other day caught myself thing uh oh it was like file name underscore final final underscore revision version one underscore uh uh hq changes underscore final and i thought what what is wrong with me luckily i just turned in the final you know detour it was it was so dumb it was so bad don't be like me kids all right this is going to take a second and just on the nick of time all right this will take its reordering and let's see how bad it breaks it might break pretty bad but we'll find out look at that let's inspect the geometry oh that's impressive look at that so we went from 4 million to we went from 4 million to 250 like yeah that's super cool it's super cool i don't see anything really broken looks like it preserved it and tell you guys that quick preset is awesome that's exactly why my uh versions all have numbers unless i'm using unless i'm doing work for someone with specific naming comment yeah you can also leave a note to pop up when opening a file by file project no edit yeah yeah i got to get better my naming okay let's look at this real quick and yeah that looks pretty good it looks pretty good all right okay yeah i'm pretty happy with that actually that's i i mean i really i really can't complain for what it is yeah and because it's super low it's super you know just a simple stylistic look i think that's gonna be it let's actually check the tears and hopefully we don't have to cry in our own sadness but that looks like that well did really nicely that welded really nicely these look pretty good [Music] there we go coming out of the eye that welded there oh oh yay all right cool that's pretty good all right let's go ahead and save it so we have robo sansa underscore futurama underscore blockout underscore zero six or final underscore decimated it's not really a blackout anymore but whatever village all right now here's what i do and i'm going to showcase this last part just in case so what i do now is that's saved i'm happy with that i'm going to go ahead and delete this top one because i don't need this i've renamed this uh robo santa and one inch cube and what i'm going to do now is i'm going to export the um i'm going to export the uh s the stls so i like to go back to my cube because that's my measurement safe point and i like to go to scale master and just hit set scene scale one more time just to confirm that still 25.4 millimeter it should be now the uh z plugins do not talk to each other they are you know like neighbors who live next to each other but they don't actually communicate that the parking spot is for them so we go to 3d print hub and we have to say hey this is my parking spot so i go back to update size ratio with one inch cube and then i say that is 25.4 millimeters and now it knows that everything should be good when i go to export stl i'll now go ahead and export and i'll keep the naming convention and i'll say yeah one inch is stl perfect says save and then i like to use subtool name as file as all right and that was good uh let's see uh once i had a really bad naming like character name underscored ben finn underscore destie underscore he understand pin 2 cpr oh man dude oh that's crazy that's good that's pretty long but i actually understand a lot yeah i follow with it which is awesome uh but i lost track when i had it revert and i had to revert to one before that's funny that's crazy all right so now um just real quick i'm gonna verify uh that this does function so this will be one of the very rare times we're closing up for the day but i just kind of want to show you why i keep that cube in there so i will temporarily open up a slicer for you guys to see um just so we can like plop it in there and we can kind of take a look at it also let me open up my slicer real quick fast and in a hurry um [Music] oh i like my settings i'll mess with my settings okay real quick i'm gonna do is i'm just gonna go ahead and use my uh no decline that and what i like to do is just drag my find my new file uh so i'd like to take my one inch cube this is why i do this and i drag this in this is when i click on this i can measure oh come on measure right here to right here come on come on are you not doing why you do this to me oh my gosh right you do it oh it's up bro version okay whatever fine don't worry about that uh let's see here okay just real quick here's another slicer this is what i do take that one inch drag it in there and when i click on that you can actually see if it's the right size or not which it is 25.4 25.4 25.4 that's why i have the one-inch cube it's to make sure that the file is correct so it's controllable so when i go ahead and i actually throw in my robo-santa here it is you can actually see i can actually see the size of it and then with that i can confirm that it is 48 51 and 77 in height and that is why i use the one inch cube for everything so just a little heads up yeah there okay big good point yeah i i had pro for a little bit on it so i would just measure everything i'll see uh sooner because you're trying to show everyone of course yeah of course yeah i
