and there's even signs that say pumps open but nothing's open and we are definitely getting low on gas at this point point so there are cars pouring into this gas station in hopes that they can get gas and this one is broken as well I think a lot of people are about to be on E on the side of the road truck okay so we finally found a gas station where at least the pumps are open so thank goodness for this but that was terrifying for a minute yay our turn so we are here to get thma and Rose Bud they're in the barn over here so we'll grab them and get them loaded hello who's who uh this is Salma eyebrows yes look at that Halo arrived here on April 29th as an owner surrender we did not know at the time that she was part of an ongoing investigation we were quickly contacted by the humane officer in charge of the investigation and she asked us to not share Halo's whereabouts or share anything about her on social media or our website or anything um Hala needed a lot of work her feet were in terrible condition the girl told us that her feet were a work in progress um and so yeah without being a let anyone know she was here we were not able to ask for any help with her cares it has been several months of working on those feet with without knowing what the outcome was going to be for her and we are just happy now to be able to share her story with you and you'll see what the outcome is how long have you had her um we've only had her through weeks up next here we've got Miss Halo hi honey you ready to see Dr [Music] Jim and x-ray that you can peek at oh okay it's rather old their feet don't look like they do now she's a part of a Humane investigation oh great ready come out wow how long has it been since your fever last trimmed holy crap the X-ray image that we have they look decent and obviously obviously not since last July wow really drop back on your heel on this one she's kind of wearing slippers yeah right now oh what ises she know she looks like it yeah tall enough to be a thorough bread I'm surprised those ligaments aren't sore just by the way you're walking on your heels like that here can you pick your foot up come on that are feet are work in progress when when they starting I don't think they look like they've been dmed for a while look at them things look at the overgrowth there jeez look at those heel oh yeah the heels are all collaps on her BS they're all collapsed flat yeah Paul you got work out out on this one her ligaments aren't sore see I'm pinching right on her dispensary ligament right now she doesn't she doesn't feel it doesn't hurt how do her knees seem oh look at this that's un B arthritis too boy she's really good over here on this one anyway this one is the one I'd be more suspicious of she's a darn straight on it wow well probably those heel bulbs are collapsed so it's probably the same way on the other side be my guess girl what are you thinking huh man oh girl come on see she can bend her knees look at that I mean doesn't hurt but holy crap same thing see these heel bulbs are all collapsed way overg growing chop the whole front of that off but see our heel bulbs rolling under and they're collapsing cuz she's back on them so much I hav see any signs of arthritis either one of those knees fat locks were fully flexible I well back here oh girl come on you can do it it's a little sore isn't it it's a little sore up here in a stifle stifle I think it's a stifle yeah a little sore up there but um that foot's way overgrown too at least the bulbs the heel bulbs haven't collap but she's walking up on these feet she's not way back on her heels poor girl going to do the same thing over here or is this one better come on girl my leg this one doesn't hurt though that one over there I think hurt a little bit up in the stifle this one's pretty good that one's pretty good yeah okay good okay everything else is [Music] good okay boy vola sucked in on you but that's because you're so skinny okay other than that other than that yeah no problems right yeah oh yeah so these are the x-rays they took in July see obviously the feet didn't look that long right she said some butter thos I don't know if she's talking oh yeah see those two little bone spurs right there see those two mhm yeah they're in the no probably in the flexor tendons there on this one but you can sure see it there okay maybe a little bit in the front of that joint but the joint itself is pretty clear both of them there's some bone squares back there how in the world that's from July to now this is July her H's got that overgrown think if she was kept on like a confined area and just couldn't walk around much yes holy crap I can't believe it grew that much in well it's five it's almost year I guess never mind for eight 10 months already so I guess it could be so what do your thoughts just try working on them feet or sure can try it yeah and see if we can just trim them back back and do you think first I don't know the x-rays are going to show you a whole lot different I don't think she's rotated I think she just pling dropped on these these ligaments had dropped down so bad mhm you can see she was already broke back a little bit there see you can see it was already tipping out H that be interesting see if you can get that off I don't know what he's going to do to rebuild those he S I wonder if he' try wedges like he did with garette that's what I'm thinking he's probably going to have to try it and see if you can take a little this pressure off of there so it's not dropping so bad man I can't believe it's that much different x-ray wasn't just too bad there she's a little long in the toll holy crap I looked at that and I was like you sure that's the same it is her name is there but wow got a straight from the that too yeah sure wow that's quite a change yeah that'd be the other thing though is to try and build that up so you can take the pressure off those tendons and get try and get that thing instead of being like this to try and get it like this a little bit anyway you think the arrus in there is going to cause an issue or that's more a performance type thing I think okay that she's doing stuff I yeah it's going to maybe bother her but can't tell right now feet are so long it's like wearing clown shoes right but um it could you know for different performance stuff and I've seen other horses that have them and they're perfectly sound too so it's a little hard to evaluate that one but it's not in the joint so that's a good thing right worse because it's putting more stress on that tendon so it's going to make it calcify worse she's W is that the left front too yeah I'm pretty sure this one I don't know my glasses so I can't see what you looking for I'm pretty sure I see the yeah left yeah that's the left front yeah that's the one that's broke down the worst so that's putting more stress on that so that's going to make that little more worse too so I would sure try it you know if he wants to you know chop those feet back and probably put a wedge under see if we can get that up so that those heels aren't boy those heels growing out it's going to take a while yeah where they're roll rolled under like that boy that's going to be an effort unfortunately I think it'd be better to keep R in a stall for now I don't know if it's going to make a whole lot of difference to be honest with you I don't think she can run around anyway with those shoes on with those feet at should her shoes she's got clown shoes maybe we can put her right out right here or something here you know or she can just get a little exercise anyway white one or the other one the white one yeah probably they're not going to be overly useful cuz they're from the so we're shooting this guy [Music] at is she is she old uh I think 20 something and for whatever reason they only sent the one foot guys so these were her feet in July okay I have like I think Jim thought if anything it was a little kind of going that way yeah but now obviously her toes are real here and she's kind of on her heels so we're going to take a lot of toe and leave as much heel as possible so it's going to be a zoo yeah cuz she's really MH okay okay and I thought maybe her feet cuz the girl when she brought her said her feet were work in progress so I thought oh she must be terrible for lifting her feet up she's no problem for Jim cuz he was she said she had um bad arthritis in her front legs he checked all her joints she's like all the way up to Elbow so she has an investigation going against her too so no one can know that Halo's here right now yeah holy [ __ ] yeah but you saw the just like could she not move around ever or what oh hi is that the horse yeah [Music] okay it's okay baby I but my goal is to so generally I'm going to go a size up on a horse like this and I'm going to set these back a little more that way that suspensory isn't so down and being she's so set back anyways she can't I don't think she can reach forward and clip them but the goal is to over time is to get her up more obviously but if we were to put a wedge in here right away we do more harm than good because she's set back so long she's worse than garnet and everybody's seen that horse so in time but definitely doable it'll take her a little time to get used to the shoes with her suspensory for how long they've been so down on her bulbs almost I mean I think that might even be part of the reason why she had an abscess there is just the pressure of walking on the bulb and now that we got her up a little bit she's going to walk goofy cuz she probably hasn't walked like that in a couple years and now that she's walking like your standard Track horse with no heal I'm hoping in 6 months we have her more up girl so I Halo knocked her hay bag down and now it's caught on her shoe oh shoot Kylie can be the nice one to you looks like good cup back cup be nice this isn't a good situation we and cut out the little strings that were in there but we got it out we got it off please don't do that again [Music] okay reset okay so when we first started working on Halo the first time we've seen her her bulbs are pretty much touching the ground uh each time we do her we're she's going to be high maintenance for a while we're just going to rebalance the heel leave as much as possible bring as much toe back eventually after we get you know her tenons and ligaments and internal structure getting used to it we might throw a wedge in but depending where the X-ray shows at but for now we'll just keep bringing that toe back and one day at a time [Music] be fine I'll take some spr out what are you doing uh clinch cutter you drive that against the side of the hoof wall see how it's tapered and then you just to break the clinch or cut it um that way it pulls off a lot [Music] smoother and here's another thing I learned too over the years is you'll see a lot of faers kind of work the shoe down when you're pulling I've always liked to go from side to side cuz one you're not going to break a lot of hoof wall off if it's brittle hard like this time of year cuz we've had no rain and you can't pull or stretch a tendon and the flexor tendon cuz you're rocking it like this you've got more cushion here than you do like that so what's our plan from here with her well when she first came she was so like not even on her heel on her bulbs and her knees were all buckled and swollen now that we've got her St walking normal I'm hoping as soon as we can you know use this as relief and support I'm hoping by you know spring maybe even if we're lucky by Mid Winter we can pull the shoes cuz her feet will will be more angled and this time we took all toe and no heels so I mean that's quite a degree change slow down there you go good job good job so when I first seen Halo she had she was basically walking on her heel bulbs extremely overgrown um extremely thin too which was unfortunate on her part um since then we've put shoes on the fronts um obviously she's not the best behaved since she's in this but I don't want to die today um yeah we're coming along she's probably going to need shoes the rest of her life until we get you know if we can get something built up here but she's been so thin so long her nutrition has been shot so her feet aren't exactly you know in the best state either so is it possible yes but it's going to take a lot longer than a normal horse [Music] so are shoes the rest of her life just going to be for comfort yeah and like for riding or like could you do Barefoot well didn't I I would suggest keeping shoes on her you know three seasons out of the Year pull them in the winter um to give this this some support cuz that will shift over time with that being open um more or less because her feet were so unhealthy you can see her you can see this Ripple line here her heel was completely complely collapsed so when she came that's why it was so soft is one poor nutrition I don't know what else she had going on probably a variety of things but uh this will offer some support for that to kind of heal almost as a cast in a sense and just offer support all around and then uh get her more upright what did she do oh sorry your whole thumb is in it yeah do the thumb goes do you got a empty syringe with like some iodine there you [Music] go no the pocket is only as deep as [Music] like it uh the pocket is only as deep as my [Music] thumb she's got a nasty abscess here oh snap and I'm wondering if that worked its way out straight up um so I'm going to see if I can't get that to drain out backwards okay start there then so we squirted some more hydrogen peroxide down in that hole after we cleaned her foot up and no noticed that there was an abscess that had worked its way up kind of the outside wall so what we did is we just squirted it down in there after I cleaned it out and it did work its way back out so my guess is she had an absess and that's where it blew but it had collected some sort of pocket and the blood had gotten real curdled um yeah real nasty so we got it cleaned out and being her heels are finally hard and not so soft and the where it's collapsed we've got that trim off I think next time when we shoe her she's going to get graduated to a wedge so really get her how she needs to be but we couldn't do that being her feet were so soft it would just collapse it more
