this is my everyday carry kit when I'm home right here in Toronto but this is my travel EDC and they're pretty different right I mean what the hell do I need this Dollar Store binder clip for as someone who for over a decade has been abroad for at least 100 days every single year I've learned a lot about the nuances of international travel and by extension have honed the most effective kit for me to EDC when I am out of town everything begins of course with the passport which goes into this travel wallet by bellroy I don't I repeat I do not think you should feel the need to spend any money on any passport wallet or case if you are going to one single destination but the reason I have this passport wallet is because most of my travel involves multiple destinations I mean in less than two weeks I am headed on a six month trip and in the first month alone I'll be in Japan Taiwan and Indonesia this means that I need to have a reserve stash of all three countries currencies ready to rock and this passport wallet has a flap right over here that splits the bills portion into two so what I typically do is if say I'm in Japan I'll put my emergency stash of yen in this front sleeve and all the other emergency reserves of the remaining currencies into the rear sleeve covered by the flap to stay organized and also I've been to all three of those countries in the past so I already have their local Transit cards that I swap into my main wallet when I land at each destination there are seven individual card slots four on the left side and three against the front of the main cash sleeve it also has a SIM card tool and nano SIM card sleeve over here but I personally keep my SIM card related things in another pouch in my carry-on bag oh I almost forgot it doesn't impact my experience because I always have a full sized pen with me at all times but this travel wallet comes with this tiny micro pen great for filling out those custom forms if you yourself don't typically have a pen on you onto the phone which for me is currently the iPhone 13 and since more than half of my upcoming travels are for business that means I'll still be making a lot of work phone and zoom calls abroad so I always EDC my airpod Pros but the more important thing to me here is this case which is by Peak design why is it important well this may not apply to you but by a huge margin most of the places I go to for both work and Leisure I inevitably end up using the local bike share system rent a scooter or rent a motorcycle this means my travel EDC is not complete without a handlebar phone mount for using Google Maps while I ride this one designed to work with the peak design case is so secure strong magnets align the two and the snap lock marries them together easily without fiddling and this stiff elasticized silicone strap with their double hook system really gets it onto the handlebars very securely it's also great because it has 32 rotatable positions so if for example there's only space on the angled part of the bicycle's handlebars to mount it to you can Orient it so Google Maps is comfortable at all natural viewing angles to glance at and follow we started with the passport and emergency cash wallet but for my actual daily use wallet when traveling I need to carry more than I do here at home so for this upcoming trip I'll be using the bellroy note sleeve as most of the places I'm going to be going to unlike my day-to-day life here in Toronto are still quite cash heavy my three most frequently used cars when abroad are the local Transit card my hotel key card and my primary credit card those go into the three most easily accessible card slots when open Cash bills of course go into the cash sleeve but there's an additional card slot against the front of that cash sleeve and that is where one copy of my travel health insurance policy card goes my remaining less frequently used cards like my business and personal debit cards my other credit card and my driver's license go into this card sleeve over here that just like my at-home wallet has includes this handy pull tab extractor to easily pop all of those less frequently used cards out to find the one that I need there's also another pocket against the back of the cash sleeve that has this flap which I personally don't use but is a great pocket to toss a few loose coins or a spare key into keeping in line with My Philosophy with pocket bulk this wallet is absolutely super slim despite being a bi-fold now you may have wondered why do I bring my driver's license since not everywhere would recognize it as an acceptable form of identification like say at a bar I bring it because for renting a motorcycle or car some International car rental places need to pair my Canadian driver's license with my international driver's license so of course the next item in my travel EDC is just that this international driver's license which you need to first get in your home country before you head out on your trip since I've been using Japan as the example this whole time one of the absolute funnest experiences if you are going to Japan is to drive go-karts around the actual streets next to actual cars and if you plan on doing that you'll definitely need an international driver's license and just like everything else in this video I will link them down in the description below so you can check them out for yourself next up is my EDC torch a dedicated flashlight is obvious if you might go camping beyond that though I like going to more off the beaten path places but with that comes a very unlikely but still potential need for self-defense especially if you travel alone and are obviously not a local we can't fly with weapons plus it'd be crazy to use a weapon in a foreign country where you have no idea what kind of potential legal repercussions you might face I mean someone comes at you just blast 4 000 lumens in their face and it'll disorient them enough for you to just dash out regardless of your philosophy and pride when you are on home turf when you're abroad as a visitor even if you know you can destroy an attacker in a fair hand-to-hand tussle just leave don't fight I mean forget potential injury it's just never worth the risk of getting caught up into any legal or criminal charges abroad anyways my current travel EDC torch of choice is the nitecore t4k it hits all of my illumination needs and then some as for usability needs I always make sure the clip of my travel flashlight is either a dual clip or in the case of this t4k a beam up carry clip so that I can get it onto the brim of my cap for hands-free illumination if need be it's also Perfect Since I don't bring my car keys nor Toronto Apartment keys when I travel but sometimes may have a temporary key whether it's for an Airbnb a rented motorcycle or even a locker at a train station if I have a few hours to kill so this setup of the t4k with the Knight eyes spinner number two size works as the perfect temporary keychain solution as well speaking of key Solutions I just wanted to thank everyone who went to maurismoose.com and checked out or even bought the spec DNT keyring me and my buddy Eric made at the workshop there are still a few left from this drop but we are officially sold out of Queen P until our next drop in the summer but going right back to flashlights I always travel with at least two and that sounds crazy right but after more than 200 flights and 1300 days abroad over the past 10 years that's how much I believe in them my larger torch the nitecore P20 IX stays in my carry-on bag and is not part of my EDC kit but both it and this t4k charged with USB type-c moving on I always edc'd sanitizer and a pack of tissues even before the Rona since some places don't offer free toilet paper in public restrooms if not the sanitizer you'll definitely want to have a small pack of Kleenex trust me next up is the Dollar Store binder clip that I showed at the beginning and this is surprisingly the thing that gives me the most peace of mind when it comes to the single point of failure of my passport and emergency cash I mean there's often a conundrum when traveling which is should I bring my passport with me at all times when I head out to explore or should I leave it in the hotel room safe there is no right answer I mean on the one hand if you take it out with you you risk dropping it somewhere and not being able to retrace your steps to find it but if you leave it at your accommodations I mean you always run the risk of theft it's pretty common knowledge now that when it comes to Hotel safes every management team has administrative or super user codes for all makes and models so I just don't trust them for protecting Mission critical single points of failure like my passport that's why if I decide it's better to not take my passport out with me I hide it using this clip I have four go-to spots typically but in the interest of time I'll just share one of them here but you'll see it and can get creative for yourself if you like me don't trust Hotel 6. most hotel rooms have curtains stand on the chair then click my passport and spare cash to the side touching the window making sure and this is important to clip it to a natural crease even if those curtains get fully drawn closed the natural crease at the top doesn't get disrupted and to be explicitly clear my passport wallet would be clipped on the other side of the white circle I've animated on screen I just want to be clear I don't think that you should have any Newfound paranoia or be skeptical about hotel staff nor of locals when I talked about bringing a high output flashlight for potential self-defense for me despite having previously consulted in active combat zones for years and having seen some really horrific stuff some of the worst of humanity I'm still a firm believer that most humans on Earth are good personally this Dollar Store clip like the high output flashlight is just added peace of mind that's 98 never going to be necessary but that two percent of added peace of mind is the extra push that enables me to truly enjoy myself as I explore next up this is going to be very short since I am pretty sure it doesn't apply to 99 of people but the truest constant in my life in terms of consistent daily use are my pens and a notebook the most important tool in terms of my client meetings but also for my own planning and ideation everywhere that I go now continuing on with gigantic unpocketable things like my notebook and international driver's license and passport wallet I need a slingback and I can confirm that everything in my travel EDC fit comfortably into any of the three absolute best travel slings I've found and tested at three different budgets here they are next to each other and since they all fit my needs equally well I thought it would be fun for you guys to decide which one I'll use on my upcoming trip so comment the corresponding number down below and the one with the most comments will be the one that I bring with me and hey if you want to see why these are by far the three best travel EDC slings available on the market today you'll definitely want to watch this video right up here or to see how I'm able to pack light to travel for weeks on end out of a single carry-on backpack this video down here is for you I'm going to leave them on screen for a few seconds so you can choose which one to watch but while you're deciding if you like traveling hit that like button but if you love
