[Music] chandler smith did it in las vegas how about his home track he's about uh hometown about 90 miles from here at atlanta motor speedway what a big win it would be for smith and all those who have come to root him on about ready to start let's go trackside and get the commands and now for the most famous words in motorsports please welcome founder and owner of freight auctions marcus barrella hey 125 and 151.75 would get 200.000 fans welcome to atlanta motor speedway and the freight 208 drivers start your engines [Music] in 20 20. have a good 30 45 that's fun i'm voting for that as uh command of the year no doubt mark is such a fun guy loves his nascar such a great supporter of the sport as well through his sponsorship well mike i don't think you've ever had a more complicated track description than this one right here it's brought to you by camping world the track is one point four mile four five four miles in length i'm already off to rock and start with this transcription 28 degrees in the corner that's the easy part that says it all bits those pie banks in the turns we're running this track with the same rules that we do daytona talladega somewhat this is pretty cool phil after that phil i hate to turn you loose on the race but i'm going 208 i'm gonna give it a whirl how about a 208 mile race you see the first two stages are 30 laps east each the last stage 75 laps our pit window somewhere around 55 to 60 laps we think there's going to be a pit stop in that last stage for sure you're going to get better fuel mileage with the engine package these guys have right now let's address the changes to this racetrack because it is it may be 1.54 like it's always been but it's not the same track it's always been marcus smith the the owner of this racetrack he told me he said i wanted a racetrack that we repaved and the guys could race on it side by side from lap one phil and i grew up in an age where it took four or five years to be able to get racy on a new repave he has accomplished that vince he upped the banking he narrowed the turns and that means that we're running speeds wide open around this racetrack so they put a smaller engine package and play under the hood and they still have big spoilers on the back so we're going to see a lot of fun action here think of daytona and talladega just a little bit smaller you're going to see the same type wider on the front stretch more narrow in the corners and the steepest mile and a half on the circuit uh leads us to believe we're going to see something unique here today camping world starting lineup and from the front row the vegas winner chandler smith along with stuart friesen stewart coming off a great third place run at las vegas last time out matt crafton former winner here in atlanta carson joseph made the playoffs last year as a rookie matt de benedetto was fast in practice yeah another one of those veterans i talked about that understands the draft could that play in his hands there's tanner gray on row five john hunter nemechek in row six we talked about him earlier has run really well in the two races this season but just hasn't been able to get a good finishing result mike see if we can get a word from him hey john hunter it's michael waltrip and the guys up in the fox booth you copy yep i got you first of all hope you're having a good saturday this is pretty awesome how big is your smile as you think about attacking this racetrack oh by the way you got to go to the rear so that probably dampens it a little bit yeah it uh it dampens it a little bit but um it's still going to be a fun race today a lot of patience just have to put yourself in the right spots not put yourself in a bad spot get sucked around in these trucks they're they're very arrow sensitive so we'll see what happens i'm i'm excited to get out there so we can do practice was fun being able to create runs draft and after watching cup practice it looks like we have three groups of racing so who knows three wide up top left one up on the fence give us just one thing to look for what's the trickiest part about this new configuration i think all the unknowns there's so many unknowns going into today on how it's going to race how lines are going to move around what tires are going to do it's all new mikey just got to figure it out all right buddy have fun i'll be watching i wish i've had a dollar for every time i've heard the word unknown this weekend so far looking forward to finding out the answer to all those unknowns let's begin by going downstairs and jamie howe you mentioned matt de benedetto ending practice quickly and he was all the way up into the second place but what he feels even better about is that he made practice as uncomfortable as possible he felt the dirty air he pushed the limits and with that experience he feels that he can keep this string of top tens that he has going maybe even move up just a little bit better he said there's a lot of here's the word again unknowns today he's hopeful that he figured out a lot of it in practice josh and jamie when i caught up with ross chastain before the race he looked at me and said my heart rate has been up all day long and that's because he was really loose in his truck during practice and then really loose in his cup card during practice so he's been hanging on all day he did say that this truck is really fast so that gave him confidence his concern is with the new next-gen cars and cup it's a bigger transition moving back to a truck so he's just trying to figure this thing out but he smiled at me and said josh my truck is fast we'll be all right boy and what a couple of weeks he's had in the cup car huh wow the last two weeks what about track house that race team is on fire about a couple weeks ago you get your best career finisher third that's great right what do you do the week after that backed it right up second place a win waiting to happen i would agree super impressed with what track house has done on the cup side justin marks pitbull and company really doing a nice job and continuing the progression looking forward to seeing debit action tomorrow during the cup race advance we've got a couple really cool onboard cameras sane smith in the 38 carrying our freight auctions camera there you can see coming down the front stretch on the bottom here at atlanta motor speedway it looks so much different phil it does we're also going to ride along with matt crafton three-time champion matt has a great starting spot he's won here at atlanta but that was the old atlanta this is the new atlanta matt starts from the third spot with his toyota on board michael mentioned john hunter nemechek going to the rear five trucks actually going to the rear john hunter jordan anderson chase purdy thad moffat ty majeski all because of adjustments i would like to say vince that these guys are probably kind of comfortable going to the rear but they're not you're going to be able to see they're not comfortable they're going to be flying toward the front about to find out what's all going on next [Music] nascar's trucks are back in america's sweet sounds [Music] but there's no sip of tea today this is the big a atlanta there's a lot of unknowns awaiting this field the first race on a newly paved surface will present challenges for rookies and veterans you want to win here you'll have to manage more than the competition and he has done it chandler smith in las vegas while a couple of youngsters have ruled the roost in the first two races this season is today the perfect opportunity for the veterans to step up and get back on top ready to knock the new off the new ato buckle up and enjoy the ride yeah it is time the first of two from the nascar world today the nascar double header the camping world truck series followed by the xfinity race here at atlanta motor speedway the track changes the front stretch six and a half feet wider the corners 15 feet narrower the banking four degrees steeper repaved for the first time since 1997. it's a recipe for what anarchy action energy excitement i like it the three e's no wait i said action well i mean that third groove starts working i mean where guys are pushing and shoving all that kind of stuff kind of weary about pushing through the tri-oval i mean probably get pretty crazy there yeah temple i got a feeling you know it's going to widen out all day spotter rick corelli and his mates up on the roof going to have their hands full today it's a new day vince and those spotters have their eyes wide open wondering what they're going to see the 21st time the nascar truck series has raced at atlanta's motor speedway but never quite like this stuart friesen on the outside of the front row last race winner chandler smith on the inside the green flag is in the air and we're racing at atlanta goes from wide to narrow through one they've all made it through safely taylor smith with that hand out the window flagging matt crafton he was going to gun the gas made that work squirted out the lead but now falling back and they're already into the wall that's the benedetto matt de benedetto right side damage on that 25 truck we saw the cars up in that third lane during their practice session and believe me that's what matt benedetto saw too he saw him up there and he said i'm not going to waste any time i'm going high but his truck didn't stick gamble that didn't pay off already he's gathered it back up but what kind of damage has been done to that 25 machine i don't really see any tire smoke yet vince let's be the main concern oh into the wall he goes had to have a tire down michael but surely gonna go caution here unless he can get that down out of the way look how much damage even the left rear fender is bent phil that's could be end of the day for 25. i was talking to matt down in the garage here an hour ago and he was talking about how much fun he's having here in the truck series and how what a great truck he had here unfortunately probably it's certainly not may not end the day but it's going to certainly his chances and did a great job getting it off track without creating further damage to the other trucks involved look at this push that's the benedetto getting on the back of freezing really accelerating down the back taking the lead and then he decides to flare out and this is where it goes wrong just got a little bit loose he saw the back end wiggle just a little bit and he's so close to the outside wall he had no room to catch it michael and he might have very well clipped the back of stuart crease and jumps at the front of his truck see if he gets as he goes by trying to go about freezing right there that little bit of a touch could have upset that truck so he'll have to dig out of a hole early matt de benedetto has come in gotten fresh tires and is back out top 10 in both races this season but off to a tough start here jamie it's definitely going to be an uphill battle for the rest of the race they did drop him off of the jacks and realize that they didn't have any issues with any body damage that was still rubbing so they're hopeful that it's it's been fixed enough that he can get back up there maybe make up some more time out on the racetrack just execute here on pit lane for the rest of the day luckily it's early in the first stage not late in the last stage but there's some smoke from that truck still jamie so have to keep our eye on that truck and the eyes i've been keeping on are the couple guys i talked about in the pre-race man up into the top 20 already ross chastain and john hunter nemechek you see him there in the bright orange 41 and the black four coming through the field saw them racing with the 51 of corey heim teammate to john hunter nemechek three wide here zane smith at 38 on the inside haley deegan's in the middle in the one wow there's any question as to whether we were gonna see super speedway time racing i don't think uh any question longer they have been two and three wide almost the entire way so far as you look at the back of the truck of zane smith [Music] look at these trucks bobbing around that's what makes this so interesting it's daytona talladega style racing but paneling is still a part of the equation and the trucks are really really bouncing around oh and haley's going to get sideways she saved it colby hired in that 91 into the back of haley trying to give her a push it appeared what a great save though that's the danger we see that again she said she thought she might have a tire rub look how sideways that truck is she does a masterful job of hanging on to it so easy to over correct on that vince yeah if she would have lost that it would have collected john hunter nemechek and ross hashane uh ross chastain for sure she's coming to pit road yeah left right this is something new too the entrance to pit road these drivers have to make sure they manage it's always been difficult here at atlanta to to get into pits jamie and here she comes and it is a left rear tire she you heard her on the team to the team saying that she thought she had an issue she eventually had to get lowe's coming to pit lane this time but crew reminding her just stay calm keep your head straight we can easily make this lap up early i think she got into ross chastain with the left rear and that's what cut that tire down stuart friesen continues to lead and you know what vince right now these drivers behind him have a choice they've got enough speed and enough arrow to pull out and make a move on stuart freeze and as we see there back in the pack it's option the option is there to make those moves as we see ryan priest trying to do so sorting itself out to a little more single file now we're 10 laps in fans especially the kids having a great day in atlanta [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] beautiful georgia afternoon welcome back camping world truck series racing from atlanta motor speedway here on fs1 michael waltrip phil parsons i'm vince welch glad to have you with us today stewart friesen out front he has led all 15 laps so far let only 20 laps all of last season he's clicking him off here today and he's getting a lot of support from the 23 trucker grant in finger behind him just rolling along right now logging some laps grant infinger knows he can pass stuart friesen all he needs is a little help from derek krauss right behind him but there's company a coming those guys that started the rear john hunter nema check ross chastain along with zane smith they've caught the tail into this pack and i don't foresee them just riding along i think they're going to have to start working early and hard to get through this group of trucks and there you see them catching the back of the pack now they're going to have to go now to get to the front they were over five seconds behind about four laps ago now they're inside of two seconds and watch those guys carson joseph is going to jump down to the bottom and said let let me go with it oh and josephine got really loose off four he was running third earlier and got out of the draft backed up to these guys right here it'll be interesting to see if that bottom lane can continue to generate momentum forward as you see chastain and that 41 truck has moved to the zane top and john hunter nemechek going with him leaving hosevar on the bottom host of our radio a lot freer down there okay copy but that's good you live and you learn you make moves they don't work you know not to make that same move again [Music] we see these trucks running around the middle of the racetrack carson was talking about going down low and he said his truck just wouldn't go down there just bogged it down a little bit watch that back you can see the black truck on the bottom chandler smith trying to go low there's jon hunter nemechek in the fourth see how much more speed there is down low how many trucks he's passing down here in three and four john hunter is on a mission if he could get just a little bit of help down there with him yeah i was gonna ask her she's surprised that nobody else has gone with him down there i'm not surprised grant enfinger has it because grant's just sitting there waiting for the stage 10. he knows he's got enough truck to pull out and make a move if he can complete the pass or not that's yet to be seen but he has that opportunity in that second position i think if ross that red truck right there the 41 if he got with john hunter maybe zane smith and went to the bottom had a little bit of help down there they may be able to drive by that entire field [Music] nine laps left here in stage number one jamie john under nemechek making those moves nobody else is following with him yet he did say after practice that was one of his takeaways he thought maneuverability was going to be crucial to being able to have a strong result he didn't see anybody else have that same stability in that same ability to move around that he did so he was looking forward to being able to make these passes unfortunately though you know he has come from the back but he's making work of it now another truck trying to get down there is a black truck up ahead his teammate chandler smith he's working the bottom and i guarantee you phil chandler's just down there saying come on jon hunter i can do it too and they're trying to get a groove down low there's smith in that 18 jack wood just ahead in the 24. they're running eight the ninth you see the leader stuart friesen grant in finger right behind him going to break but we'll keep it side by side so you won't miss a lap at atlanta motor speedway [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] the action has picked up can you tell we're nearing the end of the stage and the stage points are on the line i can tell my heart rate ramped up too vince this is crazy the trucks are drafting tight together but they're starting to slip and slide they're really loose and look three wide well the one thing the guy said is these trucks because of the profile of the big cab punch such a big hole in the air they get such a big run you got to really be careful you don't get too big a run and run into the back of somebody on board with matt crafton looking out the rear of his truck look at this view now from the front riding on his head it's so tight this pack racing to see who's gonna win this stage it's garrett krauss right in front of him michael you can't throw it all out the window for this stage win but they're driving like they were willing to [Music] two to go in stage one in atlanta stuart friesen has been out front the entire way so far what about those two didn't we see them in the pre-race highlights here it is chastain pushing to the front they're in position to do that again watch it watch this bump see if john hunter gives the 41 a chest and a bump looked like he backed off didn't want to take a chance so early chastain slipping chastain trying to keep it down look at that back in wiggle out he wanted to be right on that white line didn't he vince but he couldn't hold it one lap left the final lap here in stage one look at those dives to the bottom trying to take advantage of the draft to get there for the end of the stage friezan continues to lead infinger runs second derrick krauss third it's the way they've been most of this stage matt crafton into the fourth spot of that neon yellow eckus on the bottom leading that bottom line can they get up and contend for the stage here comes stuart friesen across the line and he gets stage one and atlanta wow it has been a long time for stuart freeze and hadn't won a stage since october of 2020 but just pockets his 11th career stage win and it's a big one that looked like synchronized driving didn't it now there's haley deegan who has it has gone from bad to worse for haley rough start to the 22 season for haley as you can see fire on that left rear that has to be some fluid right there that caught on fire sheet indicated it was not getting any better after she had come to pit road tight stage one [Music] foreign atlanta motor speedway camping world truck series racing on fs1 presented by blue emu and it was a fast stage one stuart friesen takes the stage with grant enfinger coming in a close second and there you see the stage one results important for end finger i mean he had struggled through the first couple of races of the season and those stage points were important for a driver down in the 23rd position of points granted it's early but still there's any chance you get points you better get them we talked about those guys going to the back john hunter nemechek ross chastain both of those guys up in the top 10. didn't take long before we saw some issues matt de benedetto got up out of the groove and got into the wall some right side damage thought maybe he had gathered it up and would be okay haley deegan got a little help from colby howard eventually made some other contact and cut that left rear and that created some fire underneath probably cut the brake line so that's probably brake fluid catching on fire had to pull hayley from the truck so she's had to go to the infield care center we hope to hear from her shortly so de benedetto has uh eventually come back down pit road for other issues he's 12 laps down deegan eight laps down but otherwise for the most part everybody else has managed to handle stage one at this beautiful day here in hampton georgia at atlanta motor speedway fans out good to see the kids out with their ear protection enjoying this one yes it is family day at the races so i love it kids running around smiles on their faces beautiful saturday afternoon here in georgia i think you made a good comment good point phil about chastain and nemechek coming from the rear uh didn't get all the way to the front but uh if i think if they'd had gotten maybe a little extra help on that bottom line they might have been able to get all the way up yeah for sure ran some really fast laps over 184 miles an hour as they were catching that pack josh sims waiting for arrivals on pit road and the 52 of stuart freezing your stage one winner he's happy with this truck other than saying it was a little tight but he said i don't need any adjustments just get me some tires the 23 of grant and finger saying he was a little tight as well but he said he never slit his tires like he did during practice so he's happy as well jamie matt crafton already back out as the no tires stop for him fuel only they're treating this race just like daytona he's the only driver who's now racing all 21 races here at atlanta motor speedway he says this one is definitely different very little tire wear so you're going to be able to see two tires or no tires but i was kind of curious phil as much as these trucks are moving around if they would opt for some tires here or in the in the early going or maybe just a chassis adjustment to address any issues they're having yeah our leader stuart frieza only took right side tires hmm yep beautiful day just one hand in it at least he's not texting while he's driving [Music] [Music] so hey have you heard the usfl is coming starts on april 16th kicks off an historic inaugural game as the new jersey generals take on the birmingham stallions in prime time on fox and nbc looking forward to that the usfl april 16th back here at atlanta motor speedway where stage one is complete stuart friesen was the stage one winner he was challenged there at the end though mike yeah let me break this down for you vince i just talked to my buddy kurt busch he said use a telestrator mike and you can see right here this gap between our leader stewart friesen and grant infinger that's on purpose watch he backs up to the 19 truck right there of derek krauss and watch what happens keep this in mind for later in the race you see the gap growing growing growing he gets to push from behind and watch what end finger is able to do he tightens this up a little bit gets closer to that bumper of krauts and he makes this pass completely does drop all the way up beside freezing to nearly win that stage that's textbook laying off of a guy and getting that run so you can be where you want to be when they come to the checker and he probably learned a little bit of something that he might be able to use at the end of the race and i think those spotters on board up top when i told you earlier their eyes were wide open seeing what all they see they saw that move and they'll relate that to their driver as well and one thing to remember here too guys this unlike daytona talladega the choose rule is in effect so these guys have the opportunity to choose inside and outside stuart friesen stage one winner will start on the front row along with christian eckus in that 98 matt crafton right behind in the 88. john hunter nemechek started at the rear is all the way up for this restart on row two stage two underway matt crafton with a nice start up on the tailgate of his teammate christianecus giving a push that inside lanes formed up though yeah john hunter knows how to push push to it freezing right out to the lead they both actually cleared eckus comes ben rhodes on the bottom so three thor sport trucks right there with rhodes eckus and crafton rajeski in there excuse me not rhodes majeski he's gonna push you push it push it push him don't give him pop [Music] pushing that is aggressive that's what it's gonna take to stay out front phil the guy in second is gonna have to stick with the leader if that's what he chooses to do see that bottom line is forming up but not making any ground and that's what they're trying to do is to make sure they don't allow that bottom line to get up beside them and you also heard rick corelli the spotter for stuart treason saying don't give him the top so you want to stay up freezing wants to stay up in that high line that appears to be the fast way around thus far in the race is the high side oh that was a tight squeeze there trying to get back up in that outside lane we saw that prevail earlier and the guys just be content to ride there for a bit remember these engines are restricted just like they are and were at daytona a few weeks ago about 550 horsepower they normally would have about 700 horsepower so maybe they need to be up high to keep those things wound up guys [Music] you can see zane smith started mid-pack ryan priest just ahead of him as well and there's chandler smith on the outside this is very much the style of racing we saw at the beginning of the race as well then in about midway through stage one it got a little more single file and then ramped back up again at the end of stage one so we'll see if it carries on the same characteristics here in this second stage there krause in that napa truck he's starting to pull that inside line ever so slightly forward there's a beautiful look at bill macanally's napa number 19. a great first stage for derek krauss as well you think we'll see a little bit more of that bottom line forming up as the drivers get a little more comfortable and familiar with you can see the problem there vince did you see how unstable the 19 was down on the bottom it's just hard to get the grip you need to be aggressive down there i think it's just depends on how well your truck's handling and ryan priest is going to give you a whole bumper full you better have a good handling truck if he's behind you i think ryan oh looking for a way to get by derek krauss he might have been looking for a way to get out keep rolling all right here's your last one yeah one truck looked awfully nervous and he backs out of it i like that movement there's a lot of action that's going to be happening between now and the end of this race and crouch decided he didn't have anything he could be up there battling with right now be around at the end see what happens stuart friesen continues to lead john hunter nemechek we showed you earlier haley deegan out of the truck and that one machine as they were attending to that left rear issue that created some fire and a lot of smoke inside the truck jamie and i just watched as haley was released from the infield care center after being examined and she declined to talk during that fire she inhaled a lot of smoke a lot of the chalk from the extinguisher so she's recovering from that but she was treated and released thank you jamie tough break for haley deegan who has had a little bit of a struggle to start the season 17th at daytona accident at las vegas ended her day early and then this situation here today halfway through stage two at atlanta freezing still out front will be hired there in the 91 keeping track with our leaders in fact vince if you're about the first 30 you can see you can see the leaders on the back look at this line of trucks that are oh trying to gather it up and make sure it doesn't collect anyone in the process as he's getting off the track and heading to pit road he was running 23rd i talked about that long line of trucks in the lead draft he was one of them off up in turns three and four got a little bit wide coming off maybe squeezed a little bit by that truck on the inside prison's got to think that this has been a pretty good day so far huh i don't see what everybody's all uptight about this new racetrack what about freezing he started up front he's first what about john hunter and even last out started out back and he's second so you can pass we've established just how you do it efficiently christianeckis is third with his teammates matt crafton and ty majeski right behind him filling out the top five and i think nemechek was one of those guys that went with no tires to get that track position and it's worked for him atlanta motor speedway it's been stewart friesen's playhouse so far it's a beautiful day and we've got plenty more for you in the camping world truck series [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] welcome back to atlanta motor speedway camping world truck series racing on fs1 under caution because of an incident involving blaine perkins some trucks have taken the opportunity to come to pitt road including our race leader stuart friesen josh yeah it was a debate on the radio whether or not to pit for the 52 team they said we need to pick because we are in our window they're going to miss the stage points but they felt it was important to pit they're just getting topped off with fuel that's a tough call i know why they debated it because you stay out you win the stage you get the stage point and he's been in great position but this is a play to win the race you see right behind him grant enfinger we talked about the struggle start to the 2022 season they need a win they are going to stay out at the end of the stage inherit the track position and hopefully hang on from there and the window josh was talking about is the window to make it on one more stop they cannot make it to the end of the race but they can make it from here with one more pit stop here's why we're under caution again the nine of blaine perkins ben rhodes joined them as well then so those three players or the 20 i'm sorry the 20 of matt mills there you can see mills and there's stuff flying everywhere from out from underneath that truck that's a brake rotor more than likely wouldn't you say phil yeah he came to pit road and change tires obviously that's not going to fix the brake rake rotor if that's what it was perkins had a problem earlier and now mills matt de benedetto haley deegan also issues earlier in the race fox corporation has helped raise more than 10.7 million dollars for the american red cross to support their mission of providing aid and resources including food water medical supplies and housing support to people in ukraine and those who have been forced to leave their homes you can join fox in supporting the red cross relief efforts donate by visiting redcross.org fox forward or you can scan the qr code at the bottom of your screen got eight laps left here in stage two what a beautiful day today here in georgia i mean it was absolutely miserable yesterday rain heavy rain and wind lightning i mean it was today as everything yesterday was not and it is a gorgeous day today and so thankful that mother nature cooperating for us today double header you've got the xfinity race after us here this afternoon and then of course the cup show tomorrow the weather's supposed to be great tomorrow as well michael i don't know about that call to bring him down pit road on this caution flag absolutely so into so far close to the end of the stage we know that everyone else more than likely will stop at the end of the stage stewart from the lead he only put fuel on in that pit stop so he could have done the same thing and more than likely retain the lead by doing fuel only at the end of that stage so i'm not really sure what the what the game play was yeah exactly and could have lost you know 10 points toward making the playoffs you never know how important one single point can be he'd been in control of this race and he just gave control away coming to the chew zone you take the upper line or the lower line and it's your pick looks like predominantly the outside obviously you get you don't want to lose too many roll rows you'll jump to the inside but looks like most of the cars are trucks up front went towards the outside tom majeski was running in the fourth position he elected to bounce up to the front row on the bottom see stuart friesen taking the bottom and once you get back here you just try to get in the shortest line and i love that though about the you know the chews and the opportunity as you said mike majeski going from fourth to basically restarting on the front row may pay off may not but picked up a couple of spots right there a lot easier to pass them running 45 miles an hour it seems to me you know we talked about the guys up front how about the previous winners in atlanta who are having a pretty good day grant infinger almost snagged to stage one john hunter nemecheks come from the back to the front matt crafton up there as well 2015 win in atlanta running third more on jon hunter with uh jamie and just listening in on the team radio his spotter tony hershman was telling him that you chose to go high and you've got better trucks behind you than the trucks that went low so keep that confidence high put your head down they're thinking they're going to have six to go but there's still some bree out on the racetrack which is why we're not going back to green it's been an interesting start for nemechek had a chance really to win both races of cortona and las vegas every time he starts his engine you got to think he's got a chance he was right there on the final laps and ended up what uh 24th and 25th his average running position is 3.7 his average finish position is 24th that's when you go home you say guys we got a lot of speed we just got to get our brakes the brakes to go our way and we're going to win this champion and they will and they will go his way hey next sunday on fs1 christian pulisic and the u.s men's national team take on panama as the stars and stripes look to move one step closer to the world cup it's next sunday on fs1 and the fox sports app getting ready for this restart here in stage two and it's going to be a sprint to the finish this is going to be action-packed too because they're not just going to lay around in line now they've got them doubled up and everybody's goal is to get every spot they can get be interesting to see how stuart friesen fares uh just outside the top 20. does he charge i'm sure that's the only way he knows about racing is charging so i'm sure he will but see how this goes nema check starting on the outside ty majeski on the inside and their teammates are crisscrossed nemechek's teammate is on the inside of row two and majeski's teammate is on the outside of row two when they come get the green flag there will be five to go in stage two vince remember how at the old atlanta the bottom line could barely get going on the restarts it was really difficult to get grip i'm sure these xfinity drivers and the cut boys as well as well are noticing you can go from the stomp of the gas on the bottom that will dictate some of their decisions on the choose rule nemechek leading that outside line still majeski pulls up even four blacks left stage two nemo and majeski side by side [Music] too wide throughout the pack down the back stretch looks like a pace lap there for the first several rows look at this big push by chandler smith on the back of majeski that's going to get him the lead and he's flipping up the hill and here comes smith to the bottom smith to the bottom and going for the lead as he pushed majeski up and now chandler smith [Music] credited with leading that lap let's give a shout to tyler anchram that's him in the 16 truck on the inside right behind the 18 of chandler smith good to see him running up front tanner gray up there on the outside right behind matt crafton he's done a nice job of getting in contention now majeski has gone back with that high line to the lead wow they're running right out next to the fence i don't think anybody saw this coming after the test sessions we had back during the winter but these boys are able to race all over the track two laps left in stage two majeski still out front getting a little help from nemechek chandler smith leading on the inside line and trouble for ross chastain and the 41 truck is it a flat left rear tire he's made contact with the outside wall we stay green coming to one to go in this stage and look how tightly they're packed at the front there's john hunter to the bottom nemechek to the bottom leaving majeski and now majeski by himself on that top lane with a couple of truck spaces back before you see christianecus this is exciting oh chandler smith holding on to it increment for a moment to jump to the inside and thought better of it so close and the caution is out with john hunter nemechek leading and it will be john hunter nemechek winning stage two as the caution comes out on this final lap it could have come out a couple of times before that on this final lap that move that ankrum made almost squeezing into chandler smith glad he decided to back off the gas there and there you see the debris on track and that is from the 41 of chastain and there's a good look at that right side damage you mentioned michael john under nemechek the stage two winner third stage win this season can it capitalize and make it a race win [Music] camping world truck series racing from atlanta here on fs1 presented by blue emu great to have you with us today through two stages stuart friesen was the stage one winner john hunter nemechek won stage two and there you see the combined points through those first two stages each of those stages was 30 laps his final stage is 75 laps a lot of guys events have had some trouble getting into the outside wall and flat tires a lot of action in our first two stages and the end of that first one was so cool to see grant infinger try to figure out a way around stuart friesen and then john hunter nemechek taking control late in the second stage and we may have seen the same thing at the end of that second stage had the caution not come out on that last lap well then with the second stage complete we're getting ready for pit stops here at the end of the second stage and then the teams will need to pit again prior to the end of the race can't go from here to the distance well that's that's certainly what we're thinking anyway now these teams will get better fuel mileage than they typically would on a mile and a half because of this restrictor plate engine they'll get similar fuel miles to what they would at daytona what about that blue truck phil dean thompson i think he's doing a great job i mean he's in there mixing it up we haven't heard a lot about him in the series so far getting his first few starts and being able to perform at this level just make a note dean thompson's doing something just outside the top ten last time out at vegas there's that young man from anaheim california here they come to pit road josh it's been an eventful day for ty majeski in the 66 had to go to the back of the field at the start of the race he's worked his way up to second happy with his truck right now they're getting some tires jamie well for chandler smith he took the blame for falling back to third to not get those stage points but he said i shouldn't have raced him that tight they asked them do you need anything on this truck it looks like you can put it anywhere you want to he said i don't need a single change he is super happy with that as is john hunter nemechek eric phillips said you're not even going to make an air pressure adjustment with this new set of tires everything is working just as they needed to he's got the drive off the only thing john hunter needed was some water i think a lot of decisions here to change four tires and i think that's probably the last time these these drivers and teams will elect to change four tires that's why when stewart freeson came to pit road i just really didn't get it i want my four tires it's a long way to go to the checkered flag the final stage just ahead who's going to be celebrating today at atlanta racing again at atlanta drivers green flag waves side by side this is a great battle no room he makes history wow a big pit stop great stop gaining three positions they're hammered down right now and went right for it bringing it to the line atlanta motor speedway on a beautiful saturday afternoon hope you've enjoyed it so far two stages down one to go stuart freeze in the stage one winner john hunter nemechek won stage two as we take a quick look at the blue emu race summary it's been a good one vince how about that nine different lead changes already more than last year is that right yep already as you said yeah stuart friesen has led far and away the most laps at 48 and he will restart on the front row on the outside and that's grant infinger and the yellow truck on the inside looked like in fingers struggled to get rolling but now he's rolling you can see pulling up remember older tires on freezing and in finger because they stop back on lap number 51. rhodes giving friezan some help on the outside we talked during the breakfail we're not in love with this strategy we'll see if they can make it work big run down the bottom for infinity that's corey heim in the 51. first time we've called his name up front but he's no stranger to getting to the front when he gets a chance to run one of kyle busch's trucks yeah the kbm trucks have run well today with john hunter nemechek and chandler smith and now you see heim up there leading that inside line got a truck caught in the middle there that's the 30th tate fogelman that's a snarling pack isn't it two and three wide fogelman wants to be anywhere but there doesn't he give me the top give me the bottom anywhere but in the middle and there's a contact in an accident does that look like lawless allen there the 45. [Music] dean thompson michael we just talked about him jack wood also involved another truck that had been up front tough start this year got some contact as well well lawless allen and dean thompson out of that nice camp tough break for eckus he has had plenty of laps inside the top five in fact has led a few it's gonna be today break for ross chastain ross is the first truck not on the lead lap so he will get the free pass chastain had a tire problem early in the race to fall a lap down as you see the crew trying to do something to enable that 45 truck to continue to roll and there's dean thompson you guys just talked about what a good day he had been having shut it down shut it off it's leaking oil now see if we can dig into what happened here three wide thompson's on the bottom does he get loose down there yeah yep sure does ran into echoes that's a shame lawless allen also came along matt crafton narrowly avoided him and jack wood looks like wood may have checked up and then gotten hit from behind you see there phil he lost the nose at first the nose went up off the white line and then by trying to correct it and pull it down he lost the back end then so like jack got zane ran in the back of jack wood as they were trying to slow down watch him right on the white line right on the white line and then it starts to slip up and bam that's just experience on these big fast mile and a half it doesn't matter we're talking atlanta here vegas texas you run these kind of speeds the air is just different than a short track racer has ever felt how about matt crafton narrowly missing this one you're just too wide with three 22's are gonna hang with you whatever you do what about the vet what about the vet crafting threw it up in third gear just in case he needed to gun it and get out of there and that's exactly what he needed to do that was a great move and great on board audio and video from that truck jason hedleski the spotter for crafting hey there you go eat you a bunch of cotton candy before you get on that [Music] it's kind of similar to the ride we're seeing out there for some of these guys stage three at atlanta [Music] had a bar on fox right back here with the cup series the battle on this new racetrack see which driver is going to rise up and take home the trophy engines fire for the folds of honor quick trip 500 tomorrow 2 30 eastern on fox hey by the way on the previous pit stops at the end of the stage matt jaskell and tanner gray penalized for speeding and an equipment violation for ryan priests so if you're wearing their t-shirts today you're wondering what happened there's your answer let's get uh reports from pit road beginning with josh yeah christian eckus in the 98 suffered some damage in that last wreck he came over the radio and asked was there anything mechanical broken they told him no it looks like it's just cosmetic so they're gonna get that thing fixed up he got four tires as well and they threw some tape as you see on the back end but a tough break for christian echoes who have been running towards the front jamie for corey heim he was quick to come on the radio when the caution flag flew saying he's got to be better about re-timing his restarts but what the team did find out in that lap and a half that we were under green was that they know now what they have at the bottom he says this truck feels good he feels like he can race it and he's looking forward to the final laps well you know if this track runs like a super speedway then corey heim you know he's got three super speedway wins in arca so maybe this could actually fall his way here well obviously he's very talented he's able to find his way to the front we saw that at darlington last year an amazing run for that young man and now it's not just coincidence that he found his way to front here at atlanta with the experience he has in arca and the success yeah we'll see him a lot in this 51 truck for kbm this year we'll see kyle back i think next how week is koda i love going down there for the races a lot of energy and excitement around austin for nascar to come to town good look at zane smith i think zane got in the back of jack wood and that's what turned jack around let's see if we can watch this that's jack right in front of him the truck month chevy [Music] this happened so fast doesn't it phil you're running 170 miles an hour down in that corner got to make some quick decisions and there's the damage done and the repairs to the 38. i wonder if that'll make that truck a little bit less value at the auction aux auction that was awesome that probably you know we're getting down to it now we have 62 laps to go uh we talked about the fuel window some being somewhere between 55 and 60. i have to believe that maybe when we get one to go that some of these guys these are takers i think we're going to see some takers especially some of the guys maybe not up in the top ten we saw you know we saw a few guys come ryan priest was one of those guys that has pitted on this on this caution flag will we see him come back in maybe and top off look at the numbers on austin wayne's self running inside the top 15 right now 15th they're going to expand to a two truck team for some races this season and the first of which will be next week at cota run six to ten second truck a couple of a part-time schedule which will be a nice addition they're doing some good things with that team they are and a couple of top 15 finishes ninth and 13th in his last two outings so that's a solid run for that team and looking forward to seeing them expand and and growing hey we mentioned uh coda next week circuit of the americas austin texas well we have some fun there don't we what a beautiful facility be turning left and right and uh bashing the pedal down last year we did it in the rain but i understand the forecast is for sunshine and warm temperatures so tyler ankrum that's 16. looking forward to going back to finish third last year there one of the better finishes of the year so good road racing steady performance here too been able to stay right up front that 38 truck that zane smith is driving of course the 38 team won that race with todd gilliland behind the wheel last year what an outstanding job todd did obviously had to had to race in the rain some and just never got a wheel offline and that's pretty cool that's a nice patch job you can see they took a lot of time sometimes you'll see guys just throw tape on there you know it's not going to stay but that thing's patched perfectly i don't i don't see why he can't run back up toward the front and again he has as much fuel as anybody in in the field right now you mentioned ryan priest's pitting and topping off i think he's gonna have to restart in the rear though we'll see if that's the case you talked about fuel that's why there's no noise there i think that's quiet zane fired her up and then shut her down just once he got rolling saving all the gas he can grant infinger restarting on the outside of the front row and that bright yellow machine ben rhodes lined up next to him in the 99 60 to go stuart freeson gave up that second position vince and got on the outside with his buddy grant infinger they've stuck together throughout this whole race be interested to see if that continues a couple of four sport trucks down on the bottom hooked up ty majeski pushing ben rhodes high in the 66 truck two wide deep into the pack and two wide at the front in finger and roads side by side for the lead final stage in atlanta in finger getting a little push from freezing freezing one stage one corey heim right behind them in third in that 51 truck and there's carson josevar up in the top five remember he was in the top five early backed out of it obviously they've worked on that truck bill gould and the boys got him hooked up now he just always seems to wind up toward the front like we talked about corey heim you can count on carson to getting there too there's john hunter nemechek in that number four toyota creeping his way back up inside the top ten he won stage two chastain back on the lead lap after some early issues he's hauling the melon didn't he a lot of energy through one and two really fast through the center of the corner and look at him go there already picked up seven positions not make it eight or nine since the drop of the green flag on the restart looks like joseph has got a rub a little smoke coming out the left rear what about jordan anderson in the three truck up in the top ten he oiled down the track earlier today they had to make repairs and now he's running really well just ahead of priest in the 17. we know how good jordan is on the super speedways he has two runner-up finishes at daytona i just have a hard time saying this is a daytona talladega as difficult as it looks i know the draft is there but man it's just it looks like daytona and talladega from the 90s where you just really hung on and slipped and slide [Music] in fingers still leading the way and there's tate fogelman going around caution is out nice save not letting that truck go back across the racetrack towards the outside wall running 15th at the time now everybody's in their window right here guys so i think i think we come to pit road now and we're done we're done pitting but some people might not pit at all phil because they've fueled up on the previous cautions because they had lost acquisition and so we could see some strategy played out here that could really affect what the front of this field looks like yeah i wonder if those that have already pitted and and gassed up if they're they've got to be very very close i mean do you take that chance or do you go ahead and pit now as everybody is expected to well i will tell you as we've seen already the more laps that go by the more caution if i'm even anywhere close to making it right now even if i can't make it right now i think as a crew chief i just say stay out we're going to try to plan on some more cautions what a break for carson hosovar we saw that tire rub but that tire is down now that left rear tire is down this will give him the opportunity to come to pit road make repairs to that left rear quarter panel put some fresh tires on there he is right there he pitted early so he will have to restart from the tail end of the longest line but that's a minor price to pay yes trucks not wrecked or multiple laps down from having to come in under green jordan anderson caught in the middle of a handful too does he try to crowd down wow usually you're crowding you the one that gets turned around but he crowded down and spun out tate so fortunate for fogelman though that he didn't hit anything he did a really good good job here watch when he gets turned around off the brakes see his wheels return to the right and then he turned them back to the left to keep that truck going straight with all these trucks coming too and he will go back to battle here they all come guys josh sims yeah the 23 of grant and finger he said just the he's just going to need right tires and fuel and a tear off stuart friesen also coming in saying they're just a little bit free but everything else is okay greason didn't get any tires vince so that's just putting it in the driver's hand so you better hang on buddy it's going to be a rough ride and in finger ran over equipment and now so they're gonna go ahead and just uh put left sides on there as well so a disastrous pit stop for end finger a lot of fuel only it looked like yes most everybody i saw just took fuel infinger was getting two and then trouble happened he's going to give up all that track position he had and remember he gave up those stage points to get that track position so that didn't work out we talked about ryan preece staying out and there there he is he's gonna along with the lead yeah and also zane smith was another guy that remember pitted right at the end of that caution flag with one lap to go and he stays out as well there's zane you know and if you're if you're going to gamble i mean ryan priest why not i mean he's running a part-time schedule he's not running for points with the championship going to run what six seven starts this season so might as well roll the dice won his first start ever in a truck you know sometimes it's a battle out on track and sometimes it's a struggle just getting the pit road watch chandler smith and stuart freezing the 18 and the 52 here that's freezing the blue truck i think it's like wow what a great move by friezan to avoid contact lost a couple of spots though and remember he doesn't have new tires put those tires on a while back tire wear didn't seem to be an issue for many of the crew chiefs that i visited with during the course of pre-race i'm an old old race car driver events i need tires sometimes we just change it because that's what we how we used to do make you feel better as the driver yeah we may not matter but just so you know stewart put it back on lap number 51 and he didn't put tires on then as well so watch the right front changer here after they the gun in his hand he doesn't get it tossed in front of the truck and in finger runs over the front of it looked like they were hung up a little bit on that right front and yeah a lot of times they couldn't get the lugs on in time when the jack has dropped that's the signal for the driver to go but you also have to be cognizant that you've got a right front tire changer over there you got to make sure he clears the front of the truck before you go radio from the 23. it's got to get cleaned up here sorry man that was all me too like he dropped the jack but i saw him right there i was just ready to just like that was my cue i was just going and sorry that that's that's the team sharing the blame you know grant said i could have done something a little bit different obviously the stop didn't go like exactly like they hope but that's a championship winning team having that kind of conversation that kind of honesty coming to the shoes i would choose to come get some tires remember i already covered you already came and got tired sorry i want more you want more i want four tires you don't want those two caution laps on the tires come on tires tires right now you got to choose whether you're going to the top or bottom then we'll get you most of them going to the top yeah i think it's pretty it's it's been to me the initial launch has been even it just then it comes down to the draft and how that works and i'm glad to see that because as we watch the xfinity guys later and the couple is tomorrow that's it's always been just such a disadvantage to restart on the bottom here spinning your tires but it looks like you can launch well if you look at those first three or four rows maybe the surprise in that group is the 51 of corey heim i mean he has run well but he's only got about what four or five truck series starts yeah yeah i can't do his resume the year he had in arca last year and just went toe-to-toe with ty gibbs won six times i don't i don't think i don't think i'm surprised vince coming up after the race here keep it on fs1 race day will follow us and then it's the xfinity race scheduled to go about five o'clock eastern jamie all three of the kbm trucks right now that's the 4 the 18 and the 51. i've all been told you guys are working together here we're going to get to the checkers together and that's all there is to it they worked on that yeah earlier today in practice they were drafting together but i'm telling you jamie at this point in the race you're going to take drafting help from anybody that you can get it from your teammates would be your first choice but i'm looking for help anywhere ryan priests on the outside and that 17 truck corey heim on the inside couple of part timers [Music] a couple of fords on the outside toyota's on the inside the inside line getting the initial push as chandler smith pushes corey hine to the lead oh man heim goes to the top jumps in front of priests and smith gets put in the middle how about freezing nice move to the inside has a little help from ross chastain so now it's freezing chastain and smith on the bottom with corey heim leading the way up top and we've got 50 to go here in atlanta they're not acting like it looks like there's five to go the way they're jocking and dicing three wide still in the back ross chastain with probably much more experience than a lot of these drivers do this kind of racing right lined up behind stuart friesen corey heim the leader 19 years old from right here in georgia marietta the hometown he's going to rely highly heavily on his spotter derrick nealon vents because this is uncharted waters for him he's out front here at atlanta it's the new atlanta it wouldn't matter what atlanta is it's new to him and uh he's gonna have to learn how to run that high line how to block and how to hang on jamie what's the team saying another big lesson that corey hymas had to learn is how to communicate over the radio it's only his fifth race and he actually went out to vegas even though he wasn't racing and he sat on in the spotter stand with the spotter derek nealon as he talked around kyle busch and he said he learned so much there just in terms of the urgency and the information that was given the feedback that he's able to offer it's made a huge difference in the way that this race is unfolded today good look at the crew chief marty lindley how about taking a lap around with the spotter derrick nealon in that 51. i was listening half back next four still single file one coming to you here still online thirty eight push up two still half [Applause] see he's getting information not only what the 17 is doing but what's happening behind the seventeen truck before corey can't see those hillsides bottom lanes pulling back if that bottom lane is up there he would be derek would be a lot busier if that bottom line was up anywhere near the front i just like that information keeping that young man abreast of what's happening back there you can see the truck behind you but after that it gets really difficult to see out the rear view mirror and i think you make a great point mike and i don't know that everybody that uh watches would be familiar with that what that second place truck is doing is largely determined by how he can work with the third place truck if he's going to make a run on the 51 he's going to back up to the 38 and get that help get that shove and it but if i'm the veteran that ryan priest is riding along right now i'm content let's just log some laps we still got over 45 laps to go let's log some i'll play around with the gas pedal i'll back up to the truck behind me and learn but i'm not going to take any chances accident jordan anderson again and it's tate fogelman again boy it's been a tough day for jordan anderson had problems in practice problems here today and tate fogelman more significant damage this time he's done yeah a lot of damage to tate's truck so with 45 to go i anticipate seeing fogelman head to the garage not sure how much damage jordan anderson had we saw him spinning through the grass but didn't see any significant left side damage you know we were talking about how smart corey heim was having ryan priest behind him ryan staying in line all that's out the window now we're going to have another choose and we'll have we'll have uh some some spots swapped up here and i i'm guessing it's not going to be the last time that we ever restart probably not there's tanner tanner gray grazed the wall at one point and and as he lost speed does it get everyone else to bunch up take a look there's great in that block green just a little bit of a scrub there and there you see the 30 truck on the bottom as gray continues to scrape along the wall and he comes down the track and i'm sure the 30 gets there's jordan anderson the three and the 30 of tate fogelman oh jordan just wasn't quite clear and there you have it that was actually the next corner yeah or maybe even the next lap right the next corner i think great lost his momentum was slowing down jordan thought he had him cleared and didn't almost did yeah taking the three collections of 30 in the process see it one more time there's you know as in that part of the racetrack for tanner gray he had no idea jordan anderson was going to come up he just you know he thought he would hold his line when he did it was too late to do anything about it that rear end really slapped the wall for tate fogelman was a harder hit than it looked initially a couple of cup guys just walked into our booth vince brad kozlowski joey logano their eyes were as big as saucers just looking it out at the action and everything that we're seeing today they're going to bring all the action for the xfinity race it's going to be a lot of fun to see those guys go at it under caution just over 40 to go we go to break here from atlanta you won't miss a thing going to keep it side by side [Music] getting ready for a restart here with 41 to go at atlanta motor speedway under caution for some contact between jordan anderson and tate fogelman tanner gray got a little clip as well it's going to be an exciting dash to the finish although not convinced that this is going to be the last restart that we see i think the race really has been a lot cleaner than a lot of people were anticipating up to this point i agree so i need to preface that a little bit mike there's zane smith let's take that top 10 who's impressed you so far who do you like oh man corey heim has been the surprise i would say not that we didn't think he had the ability to do this it's just to go out and perform on this stage under this kind of pressure he's be my pick in the top 10. i like chandler smith the job he's done but he had a little conversation with his crew chief danny stockman just a few moments ago together long laps get to the end and then race it out we cannot afford to lose track position oh but i literally just got hung by my teammate before the call she came out that's what it's going to take to win the race but they're not even on board so like i said come up with a new plan that one's not gonna work simple as that and what chandler's talking about is on the restart he was given a push down the back straightaway here to corey heim and as they get down the back with the push together heim goes up and gets in front of the outside lane and leaves smith behind and that's what that young man was upset about he said he got shocked his teammate did not play along fairly so come up with a new plan a new plan that plan doesn't not gonna work just the fifth start in this series for corey heim is that an experience on his part desperation he felt that run that he had on the bottom kind of dissipating somewhat and he saw the trucks on the outside running fast he knew the outside that could have been as much on his spotter as it was corey heim his spotter might have said get up get up and if that's the case you know team orders sometimes have the best intentions but they don't always play out like you hope they would again we talked about eventually you mentioned ideally you would want to work with your with your teammates but it doesn't always work out that way so they'll be coming to the shoes this time by as they're there on the back stretch picking up continuing to pick up some debris around the racetrack corey high may have said if i stay down here with chandler then we're both going to get shot down here better better off just one of us happening to it than both of us we'll have to ask derek neal and his spotter if he sent him that way or is that something or he just usually when you're a young racer having an opportunity to drive for kyle busch and the experience of derek kneeling on the spotter stand you're going to do what derek says well the outside lane has been the preferred lane we'll see if corey heim continues that tradition i think he's going to the outside is ryan priests going to follow him to the outside i think so i think they both line up out there they were doing pretty well like it was going and maybe chandler smith will be the first to the bottom nope chandler smith goes high too well those guys on the high side gave up a lot of rows to stay up there didn't they they did indeed and so you see time rhodes priest chastain smith krauss first three rows here's what's unfolded so far today lap two matt de benedetto got into the wall on the right side and well it's been a long day for him he's now 12 laps down how about haley deegan gathering it up when she got a little assistance from colby howard ended up cutting the tire and there you see the ultimate damage from that stuart freeze and pocketed stage one john hunter nemechek scored the stage two victory oh dean thompson gets a little bit loose gets up in to 98 of christian eckus caught up lawless allen in the process jack wood also got a piece of that and then grant infinger on pit road was gonna go change two tires they dropped the jack but his front tire changer was not done then there you see tanner gray jordan anderson and tate fogelman with contact fogelman getting the worst of it tanner gray is able to stay on the lead lap make some repairs see how he can rebound from that problem he had pace car is off corey heim on the front row along with ben rhodes 38 to go at atlanta big push by time majeski on the back of ben rhodes again that bottom lane off to a great start now will they flare up and take the high side i think that's where ben road is going yeah well done by the thor sport guys rhodes and majeski those two got together in our last race coming off turn four at vegas now they're best friends because they need each other desperately are you insinuating there may have been a little hard feeling between the two after that it was a bit touch and go it looked like to me all good now all good right now it is one two see how this plays out i'm in that third spot with ryan priests fourth zane smith fifth i think it's the same scenario for those guys eating hang let's just log some laps see if we can as we have a truck that's gotten to the outside wall i believe that's the 44 truck chris wright he needs to come to pit road or that tire is going to blow out just log some laps see if we can put that bottom lane in our rearview mirror the 99 of ben rose was fourth before the choose and the time majeski 66 was seventh before the jews say they made that work just fine in their strategy well done guys there's the contact for chris right off turn two the beginning inside bumper now before the race and there you see right continuing that's that tire his issues come out yeah i should have been his spotter can't run into the wall that hard have that much smoke and have a tire not go down now the big question is how much debris is on the track thad moffat slow and coming to pit road as well yeah there's a bunch spent some time behind the wall a bunch of laps down get all excited for the restart directs a bummer it was chris right up there at the top of the screen kind of knew that was going to happen remember these are still metal bodies on these trucks the composite bodies of the xfinity cars and now the new next-gen cup car a little more resilient you can get away with a little bit of that scrubbing the wall more so than you can with these steel bodies don't go anywhere i'm gonna make a fun day of it yet [Music] about 30 to go here in atlanta back of atlanta motor speedway under caution ben rhodes and ty majeski got the better of corey heim on that last restart rhodes and majeski getting their positions from the bottom and corey heim and company talking it over why it didn't work up top yeah we're trying anything different there or now trying to keep them more with you like launch slower if that makes sense yeah i got you he got kind of a bad launch when i stopped outside of them for the lead right there two restarts ago so i'm kind of worried about that but it's all good a slower launch that's what these professional race car drivers do if you just map the gas that's not good enough i mean you got to get it down when it's time to go but you also want to time it to where the guy behind you can be right on your tailgate and we saw the very start of the race we saw the hand signal to the guy behind you i'm going now get ready get ready my hands out the window i'll let you know when i'm going because it's so important what happens in the second row it's so important who inevitably gets the lead and you know one one thing that that means phil is when you finally do punch it wide open you almost want to feel him hitting your tailgate getting you bounced and going well it's been a little bit of an inconsistent second half of the race we had what one caution the first 50 laps we've had six cautions since then so just about the time we get going we end up having a another caution so they haven't really gotten into a rhythm yet and we get the feeling that here over the course of this next 30 laps if they get lined up and get going we're going to see some fantastic racing to the finish that bottom lane is going to have to really get organized though because it appears that when those these trucks are winding around the middle of the racetrack towards the top that it's hard to make up any ground on the bottom but so they're going to have to get really organized well as we run out of laps i'm guessing they're going to get organized we're going to get organized they may not wait to get organized what do you take michael on this restart your ben rhodes time of jessica i think whichever lane they take they're going to be together they're going together and i would go to the bottom i just like the what i've what i've seen from the launch but we're not going to figure it out this time because we're going to have to make another lap still some debris on the track nascar's got their safety crew down in one and two so final sweep of the track and it's been fun to watch some of these some of the new names newer names to the camping world truck series tanner gray's been around a couple of years but certainly hasn't been putting top fives together like he has through the first couple of races matt debenedetto down from the cup series great to have matt with us it's been a tough day for him today ty majeski ran part time last year but has really been a bright spot early on and right there today in the second spot to his teammate ben rhodes there's ty right there in the 66 truck as much as we're wanting these laps to start to click off these drivers with every caution flag lap that goes by and as it winds down it just gets more and more intense and making sure you're in the right spot make the right decisions to give yourself that chance to go chase a checkered flag big win earlier for ty majeski well last week i guess won the rattler only the fifth 250 record fifth time down at south alabama speedway don't forget two-time majeski had to start at the back because they had to change they changed the fuel cell and wire harness they had a fuel pickup issue in practice so i talked to the crew chief joe shearer down in the garage there he said yeah we're going to change everything and he said i'm quite sure we'll have to go to the back and he's done a nice job parlaying that last place start back up here and towards the front how about derek krauss on the bottom if you've got a good pusher you can make it work imagine it's way far behind me i could be wrong but that's what it feels like from in here it's like we're almost too fast on the bottom most of them can't run with you through the middle of the corner so it builds a gap well we're going to get a chance to see a replay of a restart because the kyle busch trucks went to the bottom and ben rhodes machesky to the top in those store sport trucks that's ryan priest down there as i think priest took the outside so when you see the running order here on this scoring pylon that's prior to the chews these guys have mixed that all up and you can see on the bottom front row there's the kbm trucks and there's the thor sports on the out and that's chandler smith right now lined up inside second row and he's the one we were listening to talking about how his teammate corey heim hung them out to dry two restarts ago they need to work together those thor sport trucks are strong on the outside and remember ben rhodes is the control truck on this restart and that's when chandler smith has to be a little bit patient to make sure he doesn't try to shove corey heim out ahead of when he's he takes off as according to ben being the control truck control truck means you start the race you got a gun at first corey heim on the inside ben rhodes on the outside each with a teammate behind them 29 to go when they take the green flag racing again at atlanta the thing i like about the bottom is just shorter they're wide open they're tack teaming that means that they're going to have a bit of an advantage can they get all the way off turn two with that advantage of the two truck tandem and the thor sport momentum on the outside is evening things up now you'd prefer to be on the outside would you yes you would you don't have that choice though it's a battle who's going to win it rhodes and heim side by side for the lead wow roja's going to have more help early not chandler smith inside second row is going to pull back up majeski coming to help his teammate ben rhodes on the outside a little bit more energy on the outside right now more trucks chandler smith trying to give corey heim a push on that inside lane and there comes stuart friesen to make up four trucks on the bottom we know how fast freezing is today does corey heim stay down in front of chandler smith or does he bail on him again he bailed he does indeed chandler smith now leading that outside line i know how much that his team would have liked in him the kbm team would have liked it for him to stay with his teammate but that could have been a race-winning move there jumping to the outside like that i think he's gonna have to make about 10 more race-winning moves bill before this thing is over strong showing for the kbm group so far jamie and derek neal and the spotter for corey heim just said sorry i had to have you move up but we've got to do what we've got to do we've got our own race to win [Music] we talked about the spotter having a role in what all was going on there you've pretty much got to take care of yourself that was a dead-end road on the bottom and they saw that and reacted accordingly now taylor smith's going to say no not so fast we could have got there if you'd have been patient we'll see if he's right chandler smith derek krauss and stuart friesen on that inside line do they have anything for the top stay with us won't miss a thing side by side from atlanta [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you saw in the double box problems for john hunter nemechek his tough start to the season continues and matt crafton as well and a battle at the front between kbm trucks the 18 of chandler smith jumping up in front of corey heim for the lead at our camping world 20 to go and how about these two both 19 years old both from the state of georgia and they're trying to win at the home track with 20 to go how about tanner gray the 15 truck we saw him in the wall not many laps to go here he is battling for the second spot he needs some help phil he does he's by himself and i think stuart greeson's the guy that might give him that help i think friezan's wanting to get going dive to the bottom and see if they can make a run down there you can see zane smith in that freight auctions number 38 with that patch on the front hanging right in there he's right back in this thing [Music] that's gray in the 15 and right next to him right behind this 38 truck we were looking at was ben rhodes at the front chandler smith continues to front corey heim third place is stewart friesen the speed through the center of the corner for taylor gray that was impressive was able to make up three or four truck leads i have to believe that maybe you're right stuart friesen could get down a little bit later he sees that run coming from the bottom he may jump down there with them he has to feel like those like those kbm trucks are going to try to stay hooked up in line what a great job by chandler smith getting the lead back he was able just to be persistent drafted drove perfectly and when the opportunity presented itself just squeezed right up in front of his teammate again chandler smith from talking rock georgia just a small town i mean it's so small watch this 90 miles away i caught this from the corner of my eye as we're coming back from break this was a caution that how did it not happen look at them they're still trying to wreck what a save by ben rhodes that's the 99 on the outside and by the way he's in the top five battling still for this win on that 15 of tanner gray up into the seventh spot now remember he was involved in that incident involving fogelman and jordan anderson yeah i had some damage to that truck and he's worked his way back up inside the top ten ross chastain's been all over the place today from the back to the front and back again a lap down at one time got his lap back after a flat tire that's chastain in the red and white 41. 61 to chase purdy nice job for him and that bright yellow truck oh put a little bit of a squeeze ryan priests jesse little in the o2 that he's battling with in that bright yellow truck that was close and ryan priest got a little bumper from ross chastain priest in the 17 winner last year in nashville that's the first time we've seen jesse here this race we had a great sixth place run at vegas last time out for tyler young well can these two hook back up like we saw earlier there's derrick krauss looking at the low side of austin wayne's self in the 22 truck [Music] chase purdy on the outside in the 61 running 15th in finger after that bad pit stop in the 23. [Music] chris hacker in that 33 making a move up the 22 year old from noblesville indiana 24 jack would get turned around in one of the earlier incidents he was two laps down at one time now back on the lead left racing inside the top 20. there's a lead and phil the games have begun to be played cory hein has to be listening to a spotter and rolling out of the gas and rolling back to the nose of stuart friesen you saw what grant ninfinger did at the end of stage one with that run and nearly pulled off the stage win against stuart friesen these guys are not just running wide open and steering their trucks they've got to be working on their strategy of how to get the right run at the right time to make the slingshot pass on the last lap slingshot engaged i like what i'm seeing here today at atlanta me too that lead pack has broken away a little bit six trucks and then a little bit of a gap back to three more that are separated chandler smith continues to lead the 19 year old as mentioned before from a small town about 90 miles from here and when i'm talking small i mean smaller than the atlanta motor speedway facility here i mean it's that small about a hundred residents and wow can he ever will one of these trucks he's been so impressive a couple georgia drivers running one two right now it's been a good year for georgia their bulldogs did all right huh they did pretty good yeah how about stuart freezing they're right there in third right behind the two kbm trucks about the braves they did all right yeah stewart coming off that great third place run at las vegas well it's been a long time for freezing hasn't won since 2019 as you see a little lap traffic making things interesting smith going up to the top here's john hunter nemechek right there with freezing and now it's one two three for kbm and freezing getting left on the inside john hunter nemechek two laps down jumped up there right behind his teammates you think that's running a little bit of a defense for those guys i mean more trucking to me the more trucks the better though if you can group together and give it a push plus john hunter ima check if he catches the right break gets a free pass he's not going to give up until this thing's over that's right but isn't that the perfect role of the teammate i mean regardless you've got a fast truck you jump up there and if you can provide a little cushion to the two teammates ahead of you let them battle it out for the win and you give them a little protection sounds a lot different than it did a few laps ago didn't it when the teammates were arguing about who was supposed to be where this has changed dramatically right now here's zane smith running running third in this race right behind to two lap down john hunter nemechek he knows that john hunter nemechek is not going to make the move to try to go by his teammates so zane smith has got to be formulating a plan with somebody else because this four will not work with him yeah nemochecks is going to run interference puts himself in a good place to do it to help his two teammates yeah but if you're corey heim what do you think you're supposed to do how are you going to get a run to go win this race what will john hunter do does he go with taylor does he go with corey there's a lot of questions to be answered in the next seven laps where chandler smith is already locked in the playoffs corey heim is not running full-time so he is not even eligible for the playoffs we'll know in a minute zane smith fourth in line actually running third because keep in mind that third truck in line john hunter nemechek is not on the lead lap i would like to see zayn maybe try to work with but the problem is it's thor sport toyota's right behind zane are they gonna try to help zane make a move and maybe get rid of john hunter nemechek who's two laps down guaranteed zane would like to get a hold of that bumper on that john hunter nemechek truck and get him out of the way five laps to go here at atlanta it's kbm out front chandler smith and corey heim john hunter nemechek a couple of laps down but third in line trying to run interference for his two teammates up ahead zane smith stalking smith roads majeski tanner gray can they form up a line and challenge that kbm duo at the front there krause is a lone taker down on the bottom trying to make something happen four laps left all about positioning now trying to get yourself the right space off the truck in front of you and learn how long it takes to get that run how long it takes to make up that space is that damage on the left front hurting zane smith from making any of the moves he'd like to make i've seen him race through the field vince he's been able to go everywhere he wants to go so i would say no but unfortunately with these three kbm trucks tied together his hands are basically tied i think the guys made really nice repairs on that on the truck did a nice job took their time did a nice job i don't think it's hurting it though the only thing hurting him right now is john hunter nemechek two laps down in front of him bit of a gap too back to ben rhodes behind zane smith rhodes and majeski can they team up and get a push [Music] two to go at atlanta chandler smith a three-time series winner corey heim yet to win in the series still running on a part-time basis both teenagers both from the state of georgia how big it would be to win at home for these two teenage teenagers coming to the white flag chandler smith continues to lead smith trying to go back to back after winning at vegas heim goes to the bottom outside some help from john hunter nemechek new leader corey heim wow chandler smith left on the outside here comes thor sport half off in third or in second trying to go to the outside but it's going to be chandler smith or corey heim corey heim wins in atlanta let's go awesome that was incredible first career win great job buddy i'm so proud of you nice work great job guys thanks everybody kbm kyle everybody this is a big win right here for us some awesome awesome awesome well chandler smith's gotta feel a little bit left out on that because corey heim went and john hunter nemechek went with corey heim he had to make a decision do i go with heim or do i go with chandler smith and he chose corey heim so rhodes ends up second remember nemechek was a couple of laps down majeski third and chandler smith disappointed for sure fourth place finish [Music] well that that was something that we did see coming corey heim going to victory lane after the way he performed last year and just a couple of stars he's just an impressive young racer and wow to do it on this stage though he and a couple of teenagers from georgia battling it out for a win doesn't get much more better much better than that at your home track for marietta georgia 19 years old john hunter nemechek certainly got in the middle of that at the end and really he's the one that helped corey heim to make the pass on chandler smith but but but corey heim knew what he was doing he laid off him a little bit like we talked about to get a little bit momentum he pulled down john hunter gave him just the slightest push in the way he went the eighth straight race going back to last season won by a driver 22 years or younger and they just seem to keep getting young getting younger and younger chandler smith teenager one in vegas corey heim teenager wins here at atlanta jamie howe is with the winner corey heim now has the helmet off he celebrated with the fans for just a moment corey you've been coming here since you were a kid you raced bandoleros back here when you were just 14 years old to win at atlanta motor speedway how did you put your head down and trust your team behind you yeah that was awesome i can't believe it um we just put ourselves in the right place at the right time you know kpm uh our jbl tundra charity pro's amazing today just can't thank everyone else uh back at the shop uh you know toyota racing just helps me so much to get here and uh this the shock looks awesome in victory lane i'm so glad to be here we were listening in on the scanners and i know that there was some back and forth about team orders and who was going to who was going to take it to the checkered flag how was that decision made how did you process it yeah no t motors there i think as long as one kbm truck one that's all that matters so um you know the 18 did an awesome job at defending for most of the race there in the four you know stuck with me it wouldn't matter the most so um you got to give all the credit to john hunter and nemechek for helping me out there and yeah just surreal awesome corey heim an atlanta motor speedway winner wow corey heim and chandler smith both out of the kbm camp already with wins in the first three races and uh you know this is a place that kyle bush has dominated throughout the years kyle's not in this race but one of his trucks still managed to get to the win and thought it was going to be chandler smith there for a while but josh he just kind of got left out at the wrong time tough finish for chandler smith yeah kbm in victory lane of course chandler smith would have liked it to be him he talked to me about the end of the race of what more you needed ah honestly just for lap cars not to get in the mix of uh the lead lap cars there i would have liked to be able to duke it out with a 51 just us not have anybody in the middle of it just lead live cars but here's what it is i'm happy for them good for them that's their first win of the year so it's first win for corey that's exciting i remember how it was to get my first and it was a really cool moment so happy for him happy for that whole group but uh stockman everybody back at kbm they gave me a really fast safely charged me ng roofing toyota tundra trb trd pro today um just sucks that in like that i wish we could have just duked it out gentlemen smith still comes home with a top five finish talking about the lap car the lap car was his teammate at kyle busch motorsports uh interesting position i think for for john hunter nemechek and and watch when heim goes to the bottom nemechek that third truck in line he goes with corey heim heim did a perfect job though backing up to him you can see how much momentum they had that was just a perfect job of positioning himself to take advantage of the big push that jon hunter gave him was that a decision john hunter had to make there though i mean could he have stuck to the 18 instead of going down to the 51 yeah he could have done a lot of things he could have pulled over and got out of the mix is what chandler smith wished he hadn't done but you know somebody's got to win the race and he felt like it was his job to ensure kbm won it and the best chance he saw for that was to give heim that push ben rhodes finished second second place finish for ben rhodes what more did you need what'd you think of the new track and i know you wanted that win but just that close yeah tracks good um i was uh i was thinking we could get a win i really was i wanted to start the move about a half a lap sooner there was a lapper on the bottom and as soon as i got past them at the start finish line white flag's out i'm making the run and thankfully i had time and chesky behind me thor sport trucks were running good i think he had a heck of a pushing truck and you know if it wasn't him behind me i don't know who else could have made the runs that we had so i'm thankful for that art tender toyota tundra is a little tore up we were all sideways at one point i don't even know what happened i'm just really thankful to be in second right now i mean we didn't get any stage points it's so hard to pass that um you know just finishing up front this was our saving grace for sure so just i got to be smiles because it could have been a lot worse a second place finish nothing to sneeze at with that guys good indeed for ben rhodes and his teammate ty majeski brought it home third another good run for ty and then the smith boys fourth and fifth stuart freeson with a good top 10 finish tanner gray with some damage he gets in the top 10 as well well next week race day at noon and then we'll be at circuit of the americas in austin texas for race number four of the season look forward to that for josh sims and jamie howe michael walter phil parsons i'm vince welch congratulations to corey heim his first career win what a day for the georgia native let's go to the studio in caitlin vincy a place worn down from decades of determination this track is reborn [Music] patch jobs have been replaced with uncertainty
