once again is ryan sage and our pit reporter lorette nickel the girl on the ground the lights you can see the christmas tree oh my goodness it's like target up in here man because the lights are already up before november before thanksgiving thank you for joining us across the globe hashtag fdirw this is round seven of the pro championship we've had triple header weekends throughout the year a wacky wild year 2020 am i right but now we have the pro round on friday pro 2 on saturday and we go back to find out who will be champion in the 2020 season sunday night here at the iconic house of drift celebrating 17 years of the formula drift championship some crazy things unfolded earlier today in top 32 we had a few buy runs we had fires we had high flying kicking action as ryan turk will advance on so did vaughn getting junior frederick osbo yes chris forsberg yes odi bakshi's unfortunately no so some awesome action going down earlier we didn't need the type s lights but now we're turning them on on the banks both the high and the low you could see them there so thank you guys and gals for joining us so much again round seven i'm joined once again by my homeboy ryan sage ryan again just seeing everything unfold again tested negative so we're all good baby but uh seeing everything kind of unfold here now under the lights yeah i'm stoked on this you know the the uh the the type s lights look awesome i can't wait to see the underglow with the cars it's gonna create a whole new atmosphere and aesthetic to an already awesome event the big bummer is you see right there no fans in the grandstand so we we are here you know in the center of the epidemic pandemic here in southern california uh where we were basically under lockdown but we're able to put this event on and it's been with the help of all the teams and drivers and sponsors to make that possible big thanks to irwindale speedway for putting this all together and we're about to kick off the top 16 where we've got some incredible battles that have consequences for the championship almost right underway that is right so before we go into it this is the united states air force opening ceremony so if you field definitely a different machine than he showed up with similar to that of animals i don't know if we have type s lights underneath that but it looks good hopefully get his car together make some noise for the pile of old red in the gt radio s13 right now the honda spree definitely a weapon of mass destruction say hello to travis reader another former champ oh easy easy pump the brakes don't flex on him like that another former champion an og since 2000 for many attires turned and burned here at urbandale speedway it is the turn 14 pilot inyo falcon tires it is slide or daijiro yoshihara the lights are on here the oracle lighting achilles tire dodge viper coming us from ireland number 43 it is dean carnage carney we have 15 cars out there one driver missing but last but definitely not least here we go he is gunning for that championship as well in that rock star energy drink toyota racing gr toyota supra it is frederick the norwegian hammer osbo there was to be another toyota out here the question is where is ryan turk the driver the vehicle hopefully get it together we heard from papadakis steph and papadakis racing can they get the car together we'll find out in just a little bit and again just eight points behind our leader ryan turk is currently sitting second with that of chris forsberg behind him we got chelsea nofa frederick osbo rounding out that top five so where are they going to land remember this is only round seven on sunday night we have round eight of this type s title fight triple crown the lights are on in the sky under the cars and around the track i'm jared diana joining me once again ryan sage 17 years of talking with ryan sage and now again over the past seven years we've had the pleasure of our pit reporter and our girl on the ground that is lorette nichols so she'll give us some insight on the stories what's going down so as all right let's uh i had some words with earlier uh with one of the united states air force's own so if you will take a listen it's about that time it's aim high air force time we got technical sergeant alensi here in in recruiting and where are you originally from technical sergeant i'm originally from pompano beach florida that's near miami nice nice nice and uh why why why did you join the air force well my primary reason for joining air force was for the educational benefits and the travel opportunities yeah that's awesome how long have you been in uh 12 years now december we'll make it 12 years that's awesome congratulations and uh it's it's i'm sure you've gained a wealth of knowledge prior to entering into the air force yes sir i have and what uh what other what other roles have you played because now you're in recruiting right what other what other positions have you had within the united states air force well i started out as an operation manager where i basically uh did uh maintenance did facility maintenance repair i supported uh logistics the logistics for that and i did uh production control and all that so that was my primary job and then i got the opportunity to become a recruiter so what what what do you tell young men and women that come in about you know just wanting to get in the united states air force uh just overall well i tell them it's a great stepping stone there's a lot of opportunities a lot of benefits that it has to offer so depending on what situation you have just just try it out you know i mean if you're interested just go for it that's great i like it that's that you could you could apply that to anything but obviously you know being in the united states air force all right are you a car guy and what's your favorite thing about formula drift are you excited because it's a closed door event but i believe we might sneak in oh yes oh i'm excited my favorite part about the formula jif is like the actual competition with the lead car and the chase car so i'm excited to see that solid solid again we're practicing social just scene is up vanka junior vs castro oh man that's going to be a tough one for castro man he's got a lot of momentum that vaughn getting junior daiyou shahara taylor hole taylor's been driving like a madman then you got adam lz in that arrive and drive program vehicle that uh that od says here you go here's the keys go shred it bro because uh adam lz's vehicle not 100 he's going against dan burkett then you got osbo versus dean carney that is going to be a ferocious one then on the other side ryan yeah we got a big open question mark about what's going to happen with chris forsberg we know he's in his back up car it does not have the horsepower he's going up against michael essa kazoo taguchi breaking into the top ten going against the surging jeff jones who he's sitting right next to and in the lower right hand corner we've got a massive championship matchup that could potentially be brewing as ryan turk and chelsea denofa could face each other in the great eight but they have to get by matt field and travis reader respectively and remember field has been going up all season long battling the rtr guys he definitely wants to get one back against chelsea denofa you could see some of those tents down there thinning out meaning that we've advanced on from 32 into 16 and uh again all the all the pit area you could see even all the you know normally where we have the open paddock here you can see all the 18 wheeler trailers over there so spread out all throughout this venue as ryan said no fans here in the building so uh just uh it makes you know we're not going to see any waves we're not going to see any vape waves under that stuff oh it's a little bittersweet but good thing is we're gonna see competition i want it all back next year i miss it so much ah there's the feds i miss them bringing me beer i'm just kidding i'm joking but am i all right here's a look here's a look at vaughn gittin jr when uh when he went up against i believe it is frederick osbo and this was it yeah it's in seattle this is round four remember i mean back to back wins ryan that was that was just the game changer for vaughn yeah the last time he has been this dominant arguably is his 2010 championship six of seven podiums basically unrivaled throughout that 2010 season and it looks eerily similar this time around taking out frederick osbo is no easy task i know that osbo is chomping at the bit to start really coming on strong here in these last two rounds he's just sitting outside the top three and could surge forward especially with chris forsberg having to go into that backup vehicle it's hard to imagine the vegas betting odds going anywhere but down against him just because of that factor alone but vaughn jr has been one of the main stories this year along with his teammate chelsea denofa the rtr drivers accounting for three of of uh six wins so fifty percent of the time they are up on that top spot and uh we're gonna see potentially the battle of the night in the in the great eight between ryan turk and chelsea de nova if they can make it past two dangerous drivers of matt field and travis reader and that right there would be probably our first real championship consequential battle uh of round seven that whoever gets past that is is certainly going to have a leg up and for turk it pushes denofa down takes him closer to getting which he's only eight points away if denofa ends up getting that one you know then he can uh get past turk and and turk would be left but we've seen some great driving from travis reader and matt field we know that he is wanting to get some back against the rtr guys he has had some great success here he's won here before he actually i'm just thinking about going back on some history he actually helped frederick osbo or excuse me helped chris forsberg win his championship a couple years back by taking the win against osbo uh on this very uh this very night however many years ago that was right i know it all it all kind of blends together but at the same time you have moments that just stand out in your mind i mean i just thinking of just old memories here and just and this track and different you know champions you know previous to this and this is where it always comes to and to an end you know back all the way in o4 when he had four rounds of competition then slowly progressing over here i believe we went from four to five and then we went on to i think we we jumped from five to seven to eight i believe it was if i can recall yeah seven for a while i can remember you know it was actually really hard for us to book venues because nobody really gave uh the sport much of a chance and you know now people are trying to track us down to you know have us come out to their tracks and especially with these kind of like mid-sized tracks we've had a lot of success at and they've definitely acclimated to drifting you know we've seen the great development in englishtown raceway we're really looking forward to finally getting there unfortunately that got booted off the schedule with everything that happened in the pandemic and uh you know we're we're getting pretty close to a 21 schedule and hoping to you know make some announcements of that before the holidays and and uh you know trying to turn it around at 21. yeah our goal was to you know have 2020 be this bridge to 21 and we've got there you know once we finish this weekend we'll have accomplished that and it it says a lot about the team's commitment their faith in the series to try to see this plan through as long as as well as all the other supporters because really you need those three factors you know you need the series that's willing to do it the teams and drivers that have the faith in the series to do it and then all the supporters and sponsors that are saying you know what this looks like something that can be pulled off and that's where we are right now yeah i think it's a great conversation man i'd actually love to have you on my podcast and actually rap out about kind of business and what's going on there because a lot of people i think are like oh why don't you do this why don't you do that why don't you charge for you know once you charge for live stream you can make some revenue there because it's a very different business model compared to other motor sports and what and what formula drift has compared to indy car or nascar formula one it's it's a totally different being from not only the venue from you know i mean the access to entry is three years you could be in pro-am you go to pro two and if you're that good you go to pro in three years northern motorsport can you really really do that yeah i know i would love the road road one road run with you so uh yeah let's figure it out well we've definitely spent a lot of time together so we have some we have some dumb stories i think we should definitely elaborate on those are all of your season winners osbo kicked things off and then like like you said there ryan you said de nova getting getting look at that three in a row for rtr then ryan turk who's second in points question is where is he he does have some time because he is in the bottom right hand corner so he has a considerable amount of time he's hoping for people maybe with someone more times they're getting dialed and then of course you got chris forsberg who won the previous round to this uh around uh was that round six there at texas and texas motor speedway yeah there's a lot up uh up for grabs this weekend we've got the pro championship the pro 2 championship we've got the tire manufacturers championship the automotive manufacturers championship the rookie of the year all those things being solidified across the board and so a lot at stake here as uh drivers really we see them going more than all out especially i expect to see that on sunday right because if you if you crash out you've got literally months to fix the vehicle if you're choosing that chassis to go for in 21 and uh it just it's the way that orwendale culminates things yeah yeah it's it's i mean some of the some of the most exciting and again i i can imagine why people think formula drift is scripted because it's just like what this could never yep okay it did happen like i mean just again the standout one for me is when uh daiyou shahar was gonna win the championship and then then he crashed and then jtp was gonna and then he crashed and then the daio shahar eventually got that that one is just kind of a standout moment in my mind of like holy cow this is absolutely bonkers and and like you said the the the the osbo scenario of getting you know if osbo won and getting would win it was just you know all those all those crazy scenarios how they play out yeah i mean well last year it basically you know it came down to i think the great eight or final four the year before that it literally came down to the last run final battle you know so it's uh this is a place that brings out the best in everybody well here we go our first battle top 16 the type s title fight round seven of the former drift pro championship top 16. vaughn getting junior jonathan castro they're gonna leave that start chicane we gonna get a clean start yes sir we do all right let's go into that first outside zone oh look at that junior high and tight well done by bonkin jr casper trying to massage it just backing it up you can hear the backup sensors going off backs it into that big bank now transition that second outside zone outside bank good angle there for both drivers would like to see castro a little bit deeper in that toyota excuse me the toyota 86 now coming to the outside zone you can see uh the the judges good job on laying down some more paint and here we go so as we're gonna go right back into it alternate the order yeah there were some good sized flames or some sparks coming out of the left rear of jonathan castro you could see he kind of came down on the bank there but kept the proximity and vaughn carried great momentum and angle made a slight little adjustment as he maxed out the angle then got right into it good momentum into inside clip number one here it is coming off the bank again you can see that lot that kind of uh reduction and angle from castro and then as we get into the second outside zone castro starts bringing on the proximity here great job could have done a little bit better in mimicking the line at the entry point of that outside zone as ginton wraps through this final outside zone you'll see the very clean painted line where the outside zone is the judges are allowing the drivers to go outside of that line as long as their rear bumpers do not hit those standing cones that are about 18 inches over the line think of think of that as a solid concrete wall so we'll switch things up here jared as jonathan castro will now take the lead against vaughn gittin jr all right let's go ahead and send cars here and it'll be jonathan castro that is leading von kitten jr giving chase let's see who comes out dominant castro changed up his livery here a little bit this year that you're doing look at this vaughn jr gives himself some room again here is that going to work off and you can see him slowly inching his way to the side of that toyota racing toyota 86 now coming to that second outside zone castro dialing it in getting really tight there good angle from both the drivers ryan you saw vaughn leave a lot of room but he caught right back up and there goes vaughn right back to the side of castro now pulling all the way through all right it looks like uh this is actually a pretty close battle here you said vaughn gave a little bit of room i i thought he did as well looked like it may have been part of the strategy as we take a look at this uh second replay here of jonathan castro in the lead here it is from above you could see castro midline on the bank vaughn kind of stopped for a second then he started surging forward good angle there from castro but a little bit off that inside clip mimicking by vaughn looking pretty good here you can see castro just not really filling the outside zones as the lead driver now that's going to count against him the question is did vaughn do enough in his chase run to kind of push it into his favor he put some pressure on castro towards the end there and he was pretty consistent all right looks like uh we are looks like we are waiting for our results but uh right now i got i got you chiming in here tanner faust to join us what's up tanner hey not much you know just hanging out watching some badass drift and how you guys doing good good man thanks again social distancing uh and uh and tanner you were a champion 07 and 08 coming back here to irwindale and here we are looking at a side by side vaughn gin jr your current leads the championship and again you know eight points behind him is ryan turk what kind of emotions did you feel when you were coming into irwindale and about to be champion oh my god there's nothing there's no other motorsport or moment that i can think of that's more nerve-wracking than heading into irwindale with a lead to lose it's just an unbelievable feeling there's uh you know so vaughn and ryan have been through this before it's very cool to see uh you know vaughn back up at the top again after all it's been 10 years it's been 10 years let's be quite honest he's deserving right it has been 10 years i mean 10 long long years man you're really picking that scab i just i just said a number and then you really had to dive in and double down didn't you opened it up there yeah right hey seeing that battle between vaughn and castro and i know you know castro you know all the field of drivers who got the win there in your mind no you put them on the spot straight off the bat i would say vaughn but uh you know he definitely played a little bit safe on the bank there knowing he had a lead but he cleaned it up the second half and look i'm no judge but i mean looked like it was probably vaughn's on that one yeah it's one of the most unenviable positions here we go so see if tanner faust can be a judge he's going to hang up his helmet and look at that look at tana yeah tanner he hasn't lost the staff he hasn't lost yeah not at all i mean don't i mean i wanted you to repeat that quote you said one of the most nerve-wracking motorsports that you can think of and you've done stage rally you've done rally cross you've done desert racing i mean your name is there sitting in 07 and 08 the first ever back to back champion and uh what do you make of the vehicles and the builds overall because i know you have a your volkswagen uh was it the passat that you rip around but the builds now during fd they're nuts right they're absolutely insane i mean there's nothing in the world the motorsport like it i mean and it's been like that for a decade drifting has set the mark for the craziest competitive builds i think on the planet and uh yeah and that has changed the style too the speed that the cars carry with the angle i mean yeah they used to be fast but now they're fast and way more angle than before so it's it's it's pretty amazing to watch and i mean it was exciting to watch 10 years ago was it really 10 years ago jesus but but it it's uh you know the level has just gotten higher and higher and it's it's it's really awesome all right i'm loving being here and as we get prepared for our next battle i'm sure ryan sage has some questions for you so lay back hang out watch and again enjoy because i know now you don't need to rack your brain you don't need to get stressed out but you get to cheer on either dai yoshihara or taylor hole for our second battle top 16. taylor hole is allowed to leave the start line if you're in that chase position here we go daio charlo the turn 14 distribution falcon tire subaru brz initiated in that first outside zone look at that quickly taylor hall taylor hall had a great battle earlier today that with ryan sharpenter excuse me rome sharpens here now coming through that first inside clip into that second outside zone some wavering there from daiyo shihara taylor hall now you can see he does mimic the angle but would like to see closer proximity both of them tied to that second front clip now bringing into that last outside zone now remember they can exceed that white line just don't get into the cones and the reason is because the judges know that white line will eventually disappear so just don't hit the cones ryan yeah and let's take a look at this one more time dye really loves this track he had some great success here during the formula drift skills battle but this is competition night look at taylor hall keeping the pressure on trying to stay on that line with daijiro yoshihara yoshihara keeping full throttle through that inside clip here it is again from above in the sky and you can see dye hitting that inside clip tanner if you're watching what are you thinking about uh dye's lead run here and uh our our guy coming on strong in in 2020 is taylor hole in that chase position absolutely laser precise i mean not huge speed coming into the inner transition but uh then you look at holt he's in the smoke the whole time through the transition it's impossible to describe how what a horrible feeling that is to be completely blind through that transition coming into the inner wall and uh so he stumbled a little bit coming out of it but uh kept it together so pretty close one tanner i'm gonna ask you a question and you can think about it while we see this next run your favorite track and formula drift and your least favorite track think about that as we see taylor hall he's going to lead that comp cam's achilles tire catalog ats v diaz look at this he's pulling him away uh-uh shakes his finger at him not today look at taylor whole massive angle high on the bank taylor hall is pulling up in major fashion that second outside zone he knows he's going against the former champ he needs to bring it he's doing that ryan we are seeing an amazing run from taylor hole let's see how he handles this last outside zone gets all the way out there look at right in the line absolutely master crab from the georgia boy the comp cam's achilles tire cadillac taylor hole that was an awesome run there yeah dai got himself caught in a little bit of a compromising situation as uh let's bring tanner back in here tanner as a chase driver you see that uh dye is surging forward here trying to gain some of that distance back and it looks like he gets caught up a little bit close as the chase driver there is that what happened to die in your mind yeah i know i think you're right i think you got to pull back a little bit before the transition to hopefully not get stuck on the smoke through the transition to be close when you get to the inner bank and dye was just right with overlap uh right before the transition and then he just backed out too much but i mean obviously taylor holt is laying it down hey uh so tanner what what's the answer to the question i asked you least favorite track and favorite formula drift track uh i i would say least favorite track is probably jersey sorry for anybody out there in jersey nothing against the state you just hit the track it's fine yeah yeah i love jersey uh no least favorite track right it's the only track i didn't qualify um and and uh but irwindale was uh irwindale was definitely my favorite every year so i love to hear and what else you working on right now man what else are you working on um i'm ta you know these days i've uh swimming yeah and um basket weaving things like that just occupying the mind you're really showing your age here dude you're really showing your energy no it there's been a lot of fun things happen there's there's things in the mix obviously it's you know weird days for everybody but um everybody making the best of it so i'm having fun spending time with family and and uh you know perfecting my craft as much as i can in different motor sports so we'll see what next year brings yeah that's awesome and again we've we had some time there for a moment went out on your boat and had a good time so it's always great to reminisce with you and to see what you got going on between volkswagen and rockstar and all that but uh uh man this is a tough call here tanner but you were you predicted correctly with vaughn getting junior do you think we have a winner is it taylor die or one more time no pressure i think it's gone again oh he's saying one more time okay i think i think it's i think it's going again i think i just backed off a little bit too much um even though he had a cleaner lead run but like i said not a judge don't want to be we'll see what happens what do you guys think yeah uh ryan do you have a prediction i i could see well i don't want to say too much i want to wait for the results to go in but i could see it going in one direction and i could also see what tanner's saying as well obviously you know that the marquee moment there was die getting caught in that compromise position and how much of an impact will that have on the overall judging against nigeria yoshihara here we go here we go oh look at that chris says taylor hull ryan there daiyo shihara i mean i mean not quite an upset i'm not not you know taylor holes no slouch but i think he knew he was going against and he really needed to throw it down that was a great job okay we got an update we were asking where he was well laurette nickel found him loretta you got turk thank you so much ryan turk you weren't out at opening ceremonies you guys replaced the motor during the break what was going wrong uh we had an issue with the engine on i noticed on um on outer zone three on my chase lap against kyle mohan there was uh we i came off and it was a red light on the dash the coolant temperature was through the roof it was the hottest it's ever been and it was not coming down it was only soaring so we knew there was a massive issue and that the motor is probably gonna have to get changed um that's why i kind of hustled out of there on top 32 to get back to the grid to get back to the pit and try to diagnose the thing as soon as possible knowing that we'd be in a tight position to get an engine replaced in time so the boys did a phenomenal job i got the fresh motor in and we just tested her out everything feels uh good to go so we're ready to rock fine thanks thank you guys good luck to you ryan so i mean papadakis they they they know how to change up that four-cylinder engine man for sure they and they did that with osbo you know multiple times last year it's it's a in his voice you could sense that there was some confidence there right yeah uh that everything was going to be okay and in large part that has to do with the history of papadakis racing being in these very tense moments and then coming out on the other side more times than not and yeah and papadox always gets the breaks like you know like ryan turk bottom right hand corner here we go so we'll get on to that in a moment here we go adam lz versus rad dan burkett adam lz initiating into the bank nice angle from him dan burkett we saw him early look a higher on the bank lz dropping down dan burkett takes some angle out of it to get proximity but i don't know if that was the best strategy i think he could have maybe gripped up and that's a little different here lz great angle right now look at that front wheel really locked and loaded dan burkett takes that tighter line to gain that proximity now into that last outside zone known ouch yeah jared we talked about this exact circumstance in the driver's meeting this morning somebody asked you know what do i do as a chase driver if the lead driver comes off the big bank very early should i go down and chase him and that's what happens adam lz he initiates and he immediately starts moving down the bank now dan is in the smoke line he sees him and he starts to try to chase after him but i think that might have been a little bit of a mistake see it is he starts going after him and probably more aggressively than he should have and it doesn't allow him to catch up but what happens when we leave this second outer bank is dan surges forward lz hits the inside clip number two and then as dan flicks it back around he's gonna push a little bit too hard and go four tires off and obviously he is not able to finish the run so that's gonna put lz at a strong advantage as now he'll go to the chase and dan burkett will have to take a look at his vehicle as he goes to the lead position here to try to figure out who's gonna be moving on into the grade eight yeah and dan burkett looked like he went off early too coming off that bank you're talking about that compromise and changing up you can see chiming in there people are hanging out so dm either maximum drift cast or aem and join the aem virtual fan zone and we'll wrap out about 8am in just a moment here on the second half of this battle lights extinguish and dan leaves the start line here we go dan burkett lz in the chase position denver kept ripping away from lz and dan burkett great angle from him it's him powering away from lz and now into that second outside zone massive angle from danverket really riding the wall and now here comes lz keeping the same amount of distance but they need to be closer let's jam them up come on now peanut butter jelly time and just they're running their own game just independent they're parallel playing as they say yeah lz is playing a little bit of a dangerous game there because you don't want to get into a position where the judges put an inactive chase on you now what an inactive chase is is where as the chase driver the other driver in the lead has an incomplete on his previous run and essentially it's it's like sandbagging i don't think adam is doing that here but he's certainly not in the fight and you don't want to leave it in the judge's hands because he really was not a factor uh in the second half of the battle now obviously dan made a massive mistake in his chase run that caused him to get an incomplete but the judges do want to see the chase driver in that subsequent run try to at least give the lead driver a battle now adam was not really doing that it does appear to me that he was trying so it doesn't seem like it was intentional but there was a big gap there that disallowed for there to be really any competitive action okay you could see here and watch so oh man yeah i just wish they were closer man it's all it's all we needed like that distance right there is is kind of fine um if it was maintained but he's like right at the threshold from what i've seen in the past see all this i think is fine yeah just i mean you got to take into consideration a little bit there that it's not his car and he's only had a couple laps but regardless sure you know his car wasn't prepared you're coming with you know backup equipment that's like the forsberg scenario you know what you're dealt um but dan burkett did have those two major mistakes so lead versus lead chase vs chase well let's take a look at the judges are calling this for a reason right i think what they want to look at is is maybe going back to the first run there's the mistake from lz coming off early but dan i think aggressively went after him and then kind of remained unsettled he did a pretty good job here to kind of close the gap and it looks like he kind of got to a place where he was feeling comfortable but now he's in the smoke line as he transitions back around he's going to go four tires off now on the right hand side of the screen you're looking at adam lz chasing down dan and he wasn't really much of a factor jared so let's bring in judge ryan lantane just to ascertain what they were asking of the replay there ryan a couple of things we wanted to look at first of all dan burkett goes four wheels off in the chase position but that was while he was following lz who dropped one tire maybe you can forgive uh dan a little bit there and say he was trying to follow him in an awkward line but then denbriquette goes four wheels off and spins uh going into outside zone number three so that's kind of on him he's got an incomplete what we were really looking at was did adam lz initiate late in the chase position and you can see that he did start to get an angle it wasn't big angle but he did start to rotate the car at the latest initiation point but he only really got to a good angle at uh outside zone number one where it began so we have to give him the benefit of the doubt there he did get the car to angle slightly and uh we were just looking to see if that was an incomplete from him but i i decided that it was not and just for the fans at home uh point out to us where the latest uh point of initiation is so just before the beginning of outside zone one there's a marker on the wall you get to win yeah adam elsie's gonna get the win right there look at that there's a marker on the wall um near the comedic sign so the beginning of the zones at the jegs sign kinetic sign is where the latest initiation point is so you can see that as lz gets to that point the car starts to rotate it's not a lot of angle but it is there and and for fans that are you know catching up on rules and things like that if you do have a initiation past the latter the lattice latest standing point is it a deduction is it a zero does it depend on the severity it depends on the severity if it's uh if it's just beyond it'll be held against them it'll you know it'll be a kind of a deduction if you will there are no points or anything like that in tandem but um it'll be held against them uh if it's very late then yes that'll be incomplete all right so again to make it official adam lz gets the victory and moves on into great eight so congratulations to adam lz he moves on into grade eight taking out rad dan burkett looks like the aem virtual fan zone is this we'll be halfway through our top 16 just like that so local time just about 10 minutes until six o'clock as osbo will lead this has again as ryan likes to say championship implications as uh we already see getting in there so that betters his chances as far as running away with it a little bit further and here we go so osbo will lead kearney giving chase osbo that rockstar energy drink toyota racing toyota gr supra here we go into that first outside zone let's see how the handle is both of them almost identical time initiating osmo you can see that car rock solid kearney a little bit of wavering in that chase position now coming to that second outside fake here comes carney hot and heavy carnage bashing front wow i would definitely want to take a different look at this as dean carney spent out wow oh wow we got we got a rogue tire off a car i'm just calling it off the screen not in the live ryan let's take a look some point somebody lost a tire well it's gonna really come down to what happened on the inner bank the big bank right here both drivers looking pretty good good aggression by dean carney oswald's on a mid high line like seemed a little bit higher but it was still pretty solid now here comes carney off of the bank into inside flip number one it's really surging forward he catches it almost perfectly nearly goes into the wall great job there but he taps osmo and pushes him off line and i think that's what the judges are looking at he's searching for there he taps osmo once and he may have got him again no it was just the ones and now oswald keeps sliding and i would imagine that it is probably dean's tire is it dean's tire yeah i think it's the right rear and that may have happened on uh on the point of contact there on the inside bank actually you can see a bunch of parts fly off the car some plastic so that let's we need to have the judges make a call there because there was contact and fault will there go that back right yeah oh man and that that is a lot of rubber coming off there those achilles tires so dean carnage carney living up to his name will get him off course you can see him scraping some metal unfortunate for him ryan while we're in this and looking at dean's car just thinking about what transpired there is that a uh consequence of dean kind of pushing osbo not being able to make inside clip one or how do you see that right now go ahead ryan i think you're on now am i on now there we go a lot happened in this run and first of all we thought that dean was definitely going to crash at the beginning of outside zone two as he went into osbo's smoke from our perspective right here it looked like no he's going in he's done he tapped the wall right there and potentially that's when his wheel got damaged and the tire came off the wheel and then he potentially couldn't slow down behind osbo i'm not saying that he did it on purpose as you rotate it back that's where the the tire came off so there are pieces of wheel down there uh it's a bit of a mess and um it looked like he was being aggressive as we want them to be but he just couldn't slow the car down the way he wanted to because his back tire was um not seated on the wheel anymore so probably didn't have the the amount of grippy he was hoping for uh to be able to slow the car down an angle and uh ended up bumping into osbo and knocking him off line and then right here as he transitions is when the tire right there comes off he loses uh all grip in the rear on that side and then the car as you can see there's a little pirouette right there pretty quickly so uh you know obviously that fault is going to be on on dean carney for the the contact with osbo knocking him off of inside clip one and then uh so osbo will i presume be able to look at his car and then uh dean is going to have to call a competition timeout to repair his car and hopefully get back out here for the second part of this battle because i'm looking forward to seeing what happens when they get back out there oh man the am virtual fan zone loving it right now oh man we are filling up look at this party what is up y'all how are you doing is that fall this yeah seems dangerous this is extra right now dude's laying in bed what's going on here look at rob c over here just oh he's got a baby on his chest that's what's going on they're shouting i can't ask everybody everybody oh look look at brian look at brian's got drift cast he's got cranky anchors that's what's up every a lot of people shout now lz right now obviously got a lot of lz fans in the building [Music] all right so uh carnage living up to his name goes hard into osbo and takes himself out that'll be a massive deficit for him if he can get his car together looks like maybe change out that right but you got to keep in mind he did hit the front you know his what was that his front right to osbos front left yeah it's those kind of situations are always the most sad for me as a fan because as ryan said it's exactly what they want to see from the chase driver aggressive driving that's really pushing the limits of the car and the driver's ability and you saw that he bounced off the wall there and that may have been where the the tire dislodged from the rim may have also been when he made contact with osbo but it's the kind of driving we'll likely like to see it's not the outcome that we're looking for we want to see those guys finish the run and have an awesome battle yeah yeah so as there you go dean headed back to the pit area you can see that papadakis team is already getting hands on the toyota supra see what's going on here [Music] and uh actually steph stefan papadakis all right as we look at as we look at osbo and his team working on the vehicle let's take a look back at his debut of this rockstar energy drink toyota racing gr supra he went against ryan turk and it was a toyota one two they had hoped for this and ryan that's exactly what they got yeah and i can remember thinking wow man osbo is gonna be deadly this year if he continues this trajectory of just flawless driving those those insane lead runs that were so hard to overcome against drivers that you know are of the highest caliber he just really was laying it down but he didn't carry that momentum uh into round two he had that mistake that unfortunately was more more of a mental mistake than it was a you know a pure driving mistake and uh i'd like to see the return of oswald here this round we're starting to see little bits of it i saw some of his practice runs they looked phenomenal but obviously ryan turk as well has just made his mark this year now out of the three guys that are um in the top three right now turk is the only one without a championship like we said that you know it seems like the odds are against chris just because he doesn't have a competitive vehicle osbo's got his championship in in 2015 and um we we're seeing that uh vaughn gittin jr could potentially get his second but ryan turk is the only guy out of those three that doesn't have one and then we've got chelsea denofa yeah who could very well make a surge of his own and uh jump right up there yeah he was right next to osmo and points yeah he would he would definitely need to he would need to you know for something really bad to happen to the other vehicles they would need to crash out or something i think like osmo and denofa basically need to like get first or second this event to have a really solid chance tomorrow a potentiality of that uh that coming to fruition and yeah there's uh there's those points again that i was talking about so chelsea's sitting in fourth osbo in fifth and uh you know with each round being a hundred points do the math because uh probably better math and i am there ryan yeah i think both of them are 96 and 92 points out or something like that and so yeah they've got some ground to make up but it's certainly possible with 200 possible points um but right now it's fallen getting junior and ryan turk that are trying to secure as many positions as they can well there's uh carnage coming back to the pits his crew awaiting the viper to see if we could uh get it back all right so as we move on to the other side of the bracket we'll revisit the second half of osbo and kearney but uh forsberg and essa are on the start line and are about to be but uh we're finding out what's going on i see i see essa i do not see chris forsberg but here we are with essa in that fcp euro achilles tire liquor molly bmw i don't know if this is a legit rumor at all but i heard that chris was going to potentially just park the vehicle and just because it's he doesn't have a competitive vehicle um to go up against somebody like michael essa i don't know if that's true but we could see forsberg's car still in the hot pits right next to uh his tent right now yeah and i'm not seeing i'm not seeing a truck i'm not seeing any tools i'm not big there for the championship because gittin's already in we'll find out what happens to turk and of course we'll we'll find out about osbo see if his car's up and running but papadaka seems to be a a busy bunch here between the motor popping or overheating i should say in top 32 and now the contact with kearney so papadakis camp is very busy yeah and not to be a party pooper but it seems highly un implausible that there's a path to a fourth championship for chris during this weekend given what's going on here especially with with that vehicle there and no real sign of you know the replacement engine to get back in his uh original competition car so it would seem like it would be you know a miracle at this point yeah yep and just given the moment the momentum that vaughn gittin jr has he's got to go um against uh yeah pretty crazy so again getting in whole they're already in we got adam lz so uh some some new faces here chopping things up all right michael essa with his buy run layout turn up the volume there kemp give the fans what they want to hear [Music] essa taking a lower line here this is just a buy run but this might be a shape of things to come i know he early on in the year he had some engine issues but now with that buy run i wonder if he's just not showing all his cars or if he's really having an issue doesn't look 100 all right i might just work it out put some heat through the tires and get get used to the vehicle because again the uh the conditions are changing next up kazuya taguchi you see him pulling into frame there and that up garage gt radial s15 he'll be going against jeff jones and that doc edelbrock gt radio nissan 370z ryan we are ripping through irwindale right now and now that i sent that we'll probably slow down quite a bit there again when we were talking to tanner faust you know whole stepping up in a major way getting that victory adam lz taking out dan burkett and you can see all these look at the clock on the right oh yeah one 143 little pager code there all right and here goes jeff jones who had his best finish earlier this year got fourth that was in texas right that was round five the royal purple top oil top this bank initiates really high great angle for taguchi you see some little corrections there jeff jones massaged it up he started low but then worked his way up and there goes gucci in that second outside zone jeff jones needs to gain some proximity here [Music] kazuya is putting his car in all the right places you saw saw a little hesitation there on that transition from that front flip into that final outside zone by taguchi but let's take a look at it again because uh jones right from jump was just definitely offline and kazuya was high on the bank he definitely started very high on the bank kazuya taguchi that is and jones is really down low has to make an adjustment to come back up taguchi does come off the big bank a little bit early so that might be one mistake that goes against him but as he enters the second outside zone you can see that he was on a kind of a deep line at the beginning then he started to come off a little bit early so these are some areas that jeff jones can take advantage of but jones was not as much of a factor as i would have thought in the chase position he had a couple noticeable mistakes including that big one on the on the big bank where he really pulled some angle out of the car after initiation and that's definitely not what the judges want to see all right there goes jeff jones on the start kazuya taguchi in the chase the second half of this battle sopa on the ropa on the start lineup ready to send him here jeff jones out front doc edelbrock gt radio 370z jeff looking stronger out front then in the chase position mid fake allowing kazuya taguchi to gain that proximity mimicking the angle there we go past that front clip let's see how they handle the inner bay coming in hot jeff jones a lot of confidence there you can see whoa oh we got contact that does not sound good let's see where the contact was made and uh we will see did jeff jones check up or was kazuya taguchi just too aggressive in this scenario ryan yeah so uh uh i i'm not hearing you go ahead rap out ryan see all right there we go yeah we we saw that early on jones was on that lower line he kind of made it uh almost to the lowest point of the big bank but right here taguchi gets really close to jones and it's hard to know if jones was slowing down right there apparently uh in the eyes of the judges let's take a look at it again let's watch the smoke line here and we may want to reference the decel zone there is a dsl zone coming down off this bank but see you see right there jones was starting to get off throttle a bit before that inside clip and obviously he's experiencing some issues with his car i'm just going to reference the the d-cell map very briefly but remember that the yesterday we took telemetry readings from all the all of the drivers let's bring in ryan lantane it looks like you guys are going in the favor of kazuya taguchi gets the win and he will move on taking out jeff jones and uh lontine going over to you it looked like jeff jones was having mechanical issues as he approached inside clip number two it is a decel zone but it's also an area where you're supposed to get back on the throttle as you're approaching the inside clip and you can see that uh when he started having those issues you could see the front wheel start to unwind he was starting to angle out a little bit and then kazuya made contact with him so i don't think taguchi really had anywhere to go in that situation and it looks like it was a mechanical issue for jeff and that continued through to the finish line after the contact so i think it was safe to say that jeff had an issue and because you had nowhere to go yep yep that's that's how i saw it as well unfortunately for jeff jones but you know who stoked kazuya to gucci he is moving on to gucci will be going against michael essa in the great eight man if he if he keeps on this pace he might very well break into the top ten he's looking uh really good and consistent these days gucci i mean yeah i mean yeah he's already in the eighth sorry it's okay the top five okay there you go yeah no problem yeah taguchi i believe it's just right there uh coming into this round and he's number eight right yeah he is number eight so all right that's this is how the bracket is shaping up so far as lz is waiting to see who he's going against essentially we see getting and whole so a couple more battles left in the 16 including we got two and a half battles left that's if everybody uh goes standard and no one more time battles the remaining two but i am seeing dean carnage kearney warming up his tires and frederick osborne waits in the wings as well so i'm assuming everyone's ready and good to go yeah and i think we should just recount what happened there for for people that are joining the live stream we saw that dean carney uh basically was driving very aggressively which is what we want to see but went a little over the top hit the wall and then hit subsequently hit frederick osbo the right rear came off the judges awarded fault to dean carney for the incomplete and now we are seeing the second half of this battle where they will swap positions all right carnage pulls up achilles tires warmed up and osbo warming up his nittos in that brand new toyota supra talked about the standings as they will get shaken up due to forsberg getting knocked out there in 16 or unable to make it to the line so and uh the big question is what ride does he have for tomorrow you know he's kind of gifted that that top 32 or the top 16 introduction only due to a buy run so what vehicle does he have there are some cars out there that i know of i just don't know if those are available in time right if it's something that chris could use there's just a lot of unanswered questions i'm sure that they've been digging into that ever since yesterday when they popped the engine yeah a lot of what-ifs for cfr but right now eyes are on dean carney and frederick osbo if osbo continues on which he does have an advantage again kearney with the hit he spins out and osbo is back to the line ready to do battle so dean gets that clean air i'm sure he's going to throw it down the way we know dean carnage carney can look at that just ripping out of the gate see how he initiates big nasty initiation just goes right to it big angle there oslo look at oh look at that tap his bumper is dean carnivo and he goes offline way off look shuts her down and that's gonna be all she wrote for dean carnage kearney and that means uh frederick osbourne will advance on into the grade eight look at that right uh right rear yeah gosh dang oh such a bummer for carney but uh man when you know you gotta pay to play yeah the bank wall is totally immovable looks like dean got into it a little bit uh near the end and uh that is what caused the shutdown so like you said [Music] i feel like these are all tuscan raiders just like [Laughter] shout but a lot of fun been having all right so uh as we are waiting all right slide them over here we go make it official and frederick osbo gets the win osmo gets the win he will be going against adam lz in the great eight and there you have it ryan we uh like you said if if that was the pace he was in start at st louis would be a much different story but the art the rtr boys it's a big one here this is uh yeah this is a real big one de nofa and field because we just saw that again so right now the nova and turk are our remaining top five drivers that uh that could be in the mix so essa taguchi getting whole lz osbo now it's de nofa field got all-american vehicles all-american boys danofa behind the wheel of his mustang matt field piling his corvette yeah getting after it looks like falcon tires nitto tires let's see what we got and the nofa will be leading he pulled the number three chip and there are the stats field i believe definitely has more horsepower than uh than what's claimed there and uh denofa we saw him earlier there into that second outside zone sonofa filling all of it slow and steady not slow at all but definitely steady great angle there good transition from both the drivers field you saw him just let de nofa just ink by yeah field had a really weird initiation there it almost looks like it may have been a double initiation it seemed unsettled we're not gonna we won't get it from the drone but when we go back to the uh original run we'll see it but either way field looks just like he's not fully there in this chase run has some moments here where he starts pulling it on but but de nova is giving him a good opportunity to attack anofa is running the wide lines he's keeping all the criteria in mind that the judges are looking for the lead driver and then right there field does take that outside zone really well right there right there you see that kind of like a double pump almost and the judges do not like that so that's going to be a tough break there for matt field i don't know how they're going to score that field backing up oh he's calling competition time out so definitely something not right with the car i was going to say it didn't seem like the typical matt field that we're used to on that run and it definitely came up in a couple different places there the initiation being won uh and then coming off the bank it just didn't look like he had everything that he wanted to get out of the vehicle at that moment so denofa solid lead run he did what he needed to do but uh we'll see what happens here on this competition timeout all right comp timeout is called the honda spree drift to urbandale before but uh no honda spree now he's got ole red his s13 will be going against ryan turret currently second in points only eight behind vaughn gittin jr and ryan turk again talking about how he keeps his composure with laurent nickel thinking about his wife shannon and his brothers including one of which is twin brother he got justin evan and his pops captain turk right here we go camera's off no big deal here we go ryan turk that gun out toyota race toyota for a halfback initiated let's give a little context to this both travis reeder and ryan turk were experiencing some version of mechanical issues with their car we heard about that from uh from lorett when she talked to steph and then we knew that there was something going on with reader's car but it seems whatever happened there the the bad side of the coin went against ryan turk and he goes pretty hard into the wall right after initiation you could see the front wheels wanting to pull up towards the bank maybe losing power or something like that and he goes hard into the wall and definitely now it is a wait-and-see situation a really tough situation for ryan turk who is eight points out of the championship lead and really needs man to get past the top 16 to continue his run for his first ever championship just what went wrong here look he initiates it comes unwound looking inside the cockpit as soon as he initiates you could see that he the front wheels are he breaks on the front wheels understeer and now he's basically he's there's nothing he can do he's along for the ride yeah yeah you saw him initiate and he threw a massive angle on it but it came unwound and then and then he tried to counter and you could see inside just his hands scrambling and trying to find which direction to go you know it's that we saw that earlier man break there wow wow so as you can see the clock there for matt field the car has started we got 123 on the clock he definitely has fixed his vehicle given the competition timeout and no problem for him and his team but right now look at that and you can take a look at that right front yeah that yeah that's uh that's not that's not where uh it's not where it should be oh man wow ryan turk and his team i think uh i think now you got to start thinking about sunday and you got to start thinking about what what do we need to do in order to win on sunday because you know vaughn gittin jr is feeling just a wave of emotion and in momentum he's got taylor hole he's going against and then he'd have to go against either lz or osbo if he if he won that you know and and hull would love to you know play spoiler and get all the way into final four and then eventually on the podium but uh right now well this is a tough situation for ryan turk because not only would they have to fix the car in five minutes they'd also be sitting on an incomplete uh of their own so this seems like it is uh not going in ryan turk's favor right now yeah wow yeah a lot a lot of scenarios playing out but let's throw down a loretta nickel what's going on hey guys i'm talking with odi bakchis right now why did matt call a competition timeout uh i guess on initiation the car broke up and you know we saw that after that the car was running good so uh we're hoping that it's gonna be fine the rest of the run and you could put together a really solid run so we'll we'll see okay and to clarify what happened in your lead run yeah i was really looking forward to uh doing really well tonight and unfortunately i you know basically chipped off the dog rings going to fourth gear essentially it's what allows you to engage into fourth gear so i tried like five times to get into fourth gear to initiate and it just wasn't happening and uh you know just to be safe i try to drive off the and just up on the bank and uh very fortunate that dan didn't hit me because is uh it was kind of handful for both of us i think there and the follow i was able to really slowly put it in gear and have a really good time following dan but that's it for uh this evening for me uh all i could do is help matt out and uh check on adam who's running my previous year's composition car and doing really well so at least i get something to do uh out here and uh just trying to make the best of it odie thank you so much thank you jared thank you so much lorette and yeah uh you know a very very unfortunate turn of events there for odi bakshi so you could see man just got a text from my home i got a got a text for uh from my homeboy ron he says man what's up with all have corner tables meaning they have parts you know parts plates with the corners ready to go but that's just you know for what you're going to come back you're out of deficit do you start thinking about let's get it dialed for sunday probably i mean in all likelihood you know it's it's hard for us to see exactly how much damage but it looks pretty extreme you know i think what you're talking about there is probably the most prudent thing to do um and you know not potentially damage to carney moore then again you know how many times have we seen an incomplete and another incomplete by the driver you know on the second run so obviously you know these are the tough decisions that you know the team has to make uh it's questionable about whether or not it can get back together at all though i'm one i'm just wondering what what went wrong right i i'd really like to know and now is not the time lorette but definitely definitely looking forward to saying you know what what went wrong because again just through the initiation it looked like a nasty flick and just had too much angle and then it came unwound yeah steph did the universal flick drift sign right there so i think they're you know recounting what may have transpired there and trying to uh you know see if it was a problem or you know nerves who knows there's all kinds of stuff and like you said you made that observation earlier of turks seemed very confident coming out of 32 and then you know being late in the 16 and here he is you know takes it hard on the wall and now now reader with a with a major advantage yeah and it and there it is stacking up if we were to see ryan turk go out that would put reader uh right into the great eight and then our bracket would be filled as soon as we get through denofa and matt field and looks like it's edging towards denofa at this point uh so we're stacking them up here in the uh in the top 16. literally into the wall stacking them up yeah yep so we'll get we'll get ryan turk's vehicle off here we'll see if we can set it up and then uh we are to see i believe next should be danofa and field right revisiting that and here they are so second half of this battle ryan just recalling for the fans they're tuning in what happened on the first battle between de nova and field yeah we obviously heard from odibachi said that they had a situation where the vehicle was losing a little bit of power we saw that double pump on initiation i know the judges are going to look poorly on that i don't know if it's going to be an incomplete but matt field definitely has this work cut out for him here denofa in his lead run looked really solid that was a beautiful lead run from him so right now he's sitting in a great position all right we'll see if we are 100 power here from matt field he needs to throw it down and eat it open to make a mistake looks like field definitely has the power back on his side janova higher left field look at that the gold nose nosing in on to matt field give it a little bit of distance there that second outside zone field he's doing exactly what it needs to do but if denova continues on the paces that he's at that oh danopa goes wide around that second front clip but is this enough brian de nova brings it around man look at field pulling away definitely had the power of the power of the babe there you go so uh let's take a look at it again here yeah it looks like denofa definitely did enough there to move on into the grade eight especially given the troubles that matt field was having on his chase run you can see here field mid high line on the bank danofa doing a pretty good job staying on a relative line with matt field he got pretty close here coming off the bank right there almost got sucked in he backs off for a second field nice job holding the momentum through the inside clip denofa starting to surge forward as we get on to the inner bank here and field is going to eye up this second inside clip does a great job there donald looked like he was going to push a little bit wide but he held it together pretty well he gave a little bit of room to matt field through this last little section here but remember those early mistakes by matt field that the judges are going to be weighing against the overall run oh man so uh again just uh just as everybody's agreeing just a lot of gremlins here with irwindale look at de nofo on that chase field pops off so again that d cell zone looks like it threw de nofa off so the lie detector aka the drone the eye in the sky is that the truth be told detector the truth be told gonna change it's no longer gonna be an eight point gap he's gonna be stuck at um four thirty something well and think forsberg was third he's out early so and then osbo and denofa they're still in it we'll lay out and listen to travis reader and coincidentally reader you know he went against naren he got uh by run there so here we are travis reader always love to joke around the walmart he's gonna have to go against chelsea to nofa and these guys are homies you know between uh you know their wives and girlfriends their friends they they hang out in the pacific northwest and now they're going to be going against each other so reader knows what to expect they've drifted at at park up there in portland and uh you know they they know each other's driving style they've driven around i don't know if they've competed against each other in fd they've gone head to head but i know they've had some thrashing bashes there in the pmw all right again our link ecu great eight is upon us so all right uh all right lorette what's up with turk ryan i don't even know what to say except that i'm so sorry but could you explain what happened after initiation uh yeah i just initiated and i just wasn't ready the the track was a lot looser i guess and uh i'd initiate it with so much angle it was just totally taken back by it i couldn't correct tried to ride it out couldn't correct and um when that happens when you when you get that snap straight that wall is like always going to arc in the wrong direction so i was trying to turn out of it the entire time and uh while not trying to run into it and then you just run out of time i can just kind of get the car slowed down and uh we did as much as we could the guys i've been working tirelessly for like the last three hours getting a new fresh engine in here so i'm just super bummed for the entire team just couldn't put it together out there i made a dumb mistake so we'll uh get her sorted for sunday and see if we can't win ryan thank you thanks guys wow thank you thank you lorette for uh for grabbing and asking the tough questions and uh yeah it's pretty heartbreaking and and he admitted driver fault which is i mean that is a mark of a champion but now he's as we look on the line here with vaughn gittin jr and taylor hole you're starting to see that uh gittin could pull away here at least on this round if he gets past taylor hold taylor hole has been driving phenomenally he is not going to be pushed over easily but you know ryan turk and the other championship contenders are looking on right now at this very battle yeah yeah i mean vanka and junior could could separate you know he could separate from the pack you know it's almost almost like drag racing just gap him and pull on him but taylor hole we saw he brought it against another champion dai yoshihara if taylor hall is gonna i mean there's something to be said about going up against a former champ a points leader and just you know looking at the track record literally taylor hall probably has some confidence in trusting driving with the driver of that caliber as opposed to somebody he's never driven against before so here we go vaughn getting junior taylor hole our first battle of the league ecu great gates here we go into that first bank just [Applause] illuminate that big bank taylor hall just not part of the equation right now as monkey jr 2010 champion current points leader would love to win again he has two podiums or excuse me two wins already in the back and that was that double header victory in seattle ryan taylor hole just uh just not in the same zip code i'm actually very surprised about that i did not expect vaughn to gap taylor that in that extreme fashion i have to wonder if taylor just did not get the appropriate jump out of the gate for this very important battle here let's take a look at it from that vantage point you're already seeing that vaughn had a huge gap on taylor what we want to see i guess is probably you know from the the uh the light going off but you know vaughn is very focused this round he says he's a late bloomer at this track but right now he is looking incredible in here in the grade 8. yeah yeah like like you said just it's like he said earlier to lorett it's not about feet it's about inches you know and that and just getting that getting that ground up there on the bank all right let's see what we got hole will now lead vaughn gittin jr will give chase uh what what do you think his strategy here is for vaughn ryan it's going to be a smart strategy between him and his spotter they know that they were able to put a gap on taylor hall and still hit all the major criteria as a lead driver so i think he's gonna reel him in because it looks like he's doing right now well like i said oh look at taylor hole now out front really shining but this is too little too late yeah that got carried and on he you know he beats himself and he has quite a bit you know just in something that could be pretty you know remedial but right now good dial oh look at taylor great angle taylor hall putting it down but ryan unfortunately i think that is again just as i said too little too late or just a lot but not enough how about that well that is more or less the kind of battle that we wanted to see on both runs and and the strategy that i thought maybe von would employ is giving a little bit of room to taylor and then trying to use the grip of the car to reel him in hole does a great job in the lead position you can still see the smoke standing in the stadium from the first run and taylor goes very deep and long into that first outside zone vaughn right there really on the transition almost lost some critical ground there and made a big mistake he was able to recover but remember taylor was not really much of a factor in the chase run at all and vaughn is a factor he had a couple little mistakes but he also had a great lead run to back up taylor has a great lead run but he doesn't have that comparative chase run uh that that could give him an opportunity to move on to the final four oh man well you know what chelsea osbo they're all looking on as of course now is ryan turk and chris forsberg so as we take a look at that replay once again our judges believe submitting their scores and the results all right what do you guys think they're chiming in listening in at our aem virtual fan zone if you're going for bond getting junior hold up number one if you're going if you're going for bond hold up number one if you're going for taylor hole put up number two or just yell good job at that osmo falling down a little bit lc drop down bow look at this transition and look at osmo down to the side lz doesn't get all the way up to that wall but then he slides it backs it up around that front clip and now into that last outside zone let's see where they navigate put the car ooh osbo taking out some candle sticks there so did lz ryan a fairly equally matched battle right there i yeah i think the third outside zone would probably go more towards lz leading osbo off because lz looks like he did that as well but let's take a look at the beginning of the run here lz mid high line on the bank osbo surging forward trying to get settled here looking for that opportunity to attack he surges forward after they leave inside clip number one lz transitioned a little bit early on that from that inside clip to try to give himself good room there in that second outside zone osmo looking to attack now now this is where you saw the cars go off course watch lz is going to go real deep in here osmo following them lz hitting some cones so both drivers going off there and got a little wacky right before the finish line is as well osbo taking that tighter line you can see both drivers i think the judges would say that lz was kind of leading off oswald off there because ozil was trying to follow his line but let's switch things up oswald now going to the lead as adam lz will chase guns of blazing superman big angle there from osbo elsie quite a few distance of vehicles behind down that second outside zone filling all of it rocking the camera lz just all bathing in smoke bath and osmo works giving you all the fixes there into that outside zone all right so ryan just a little a little more a little more flex there out front from osbo yeah and you know you have to [Music] you have to give odie excuse me i have to give adam lz some real credit there i think maybe people don't recognize but that's odi's competition car from last year as you've said that's just been rebranded that is not a weak car and to jump into a car like that and do well against frederick osbo is saying something about his driving skill this time around osbo kind of gaps lz on the bank notice that he's pretty nice and high on the bank he incrementally moved up there adam wasn't able to stay with him and there's a real good shot at the difference you can see lz was trying to play catch up he wasn't as high as osbo in the chase position now on to the inner bank here osvo enters it perfectly he's really deep getting right up against the wall adam doing much better in this section of the course starting to close the gap a little bit but looks like a lot of the damage was done and then osbo final transition to outside zone number three right at the edge of the course there lz driving through the smoke line trying to make up some ground but uh what do the fans think i i have something in my mind jared but let's see what they think yeah i know i know the the lz loyalists are you know just that very loyal regardless of driving we're seeing signs for osbo i'm seeing backdrops with osbo and the supra let's take a look at this side by side and here we go this is uh side by side from the drone so you can see that osmo gapping lz and then you see lz high osmo right there some wavering there in the chase position but good proximity now transitioning past that front clip into the second outside zone lz you can see tapping the brakes osmo keeping composure now around that second front clip osmo brings in a lot cleaner there as lz like you said let osbo off track and goes into those cones so a i think a great effort by adam lz i'm sure he'd love to have you know his his original vehicle but he says man i'm feeling really confident here just got off drift week which is a drift travel adventure across country it looks like osbo gets the win bottom line it's another great 8-4 rookie rookie season that's incredible yeah i mean i mean all signs are saying adam lz unofficially will be the 2020 rookie of the year in the former drift pro championship which is just which is a great great accolade definitely a feather in his cap a feather in his lifeguard hat if i may all right so we're officially halfway through our link ecu grade eight halfway through as vaughn getting junior frederick osbourne we saw clips earlier of them going against each other earlier this season and again just getting's on a tear man yeah he certainly is he got the momentum in his corner he looks very strong fast settled you know a lot of you know the things that he's mentioned you know to loretta and to us about preparation for the season and kind of things kind of coming together and coalescing in the right way finding himself uh you know in the final four and against osmo the guy that he battled uh here a couple of years ago for that championship that was on the line against james dean and that was able to beat osbo so now let's fill the second half of the bracket here between kazuya taguchi and michael essa for that third of fourth spots all right so here we go we got kazuya taguchi michael essa taguchi will lead michael essa will give chase ken kazuya i believe has he been in final four i'm not for certain hope to look that up petitions here we go because we into gucci up garage s15 initiates on the bank that's a good angle you see making those corrections to get to the side oh and taguchi looked like he like held on to that angle he even threw more at it might have a suspension bit broken or something that was that was really weird never seen that before yeah it looks like he got caught up there hung up a lot of angle coming off of the bank and had to pull out of it there essa was in a really compromised position in the chase that could have been a lot worse than it was it looks like there may have been a little bit of contact there it looks like at first glance that that it was a mistake by taguchi let's see what happens here nice job of timing there by mike olessa trying to meet him get up in the pocket he falls back for a quick second then big angle there from taguchi and that shot sees it perfectly just a mistake by taguchi there and essa luckily is able to just get away with a little tap that could have been real scary the judges are saying that i jinxed them so i was like oh he's doing good might get final four and then everything is is the uh commenter's curse i don't think i have any power you have power if you say it then it will or won't happen ah jared won a million dollars oh no i'm gonna win a million dollars all right so yeah let's and yeah so kazuya taguchi he's gonna need to get uh trailered off here i believe or no yeah they're bringing the whole flatbed out so on the one side vaughn gittin jr great eight will not be here we go initiated into that big bang all red raider down on the bank a massive angle meter struggling a bit to get higher and now past that front clip into that second outside zone here goes to nofa massive angle from junopa reader you can see he gets to the side of him but now how is he going to handle this into that final outside zone both the filling all of it well done by denofa reader just a little bit of struggling there especially just right from get go on the bank yeah the judge is definitely gonna look very favorably on chelsea denofa in this lead run because look at the commitment from the get-go he starts high on the bank and he pretty much continues high on the bank he came off just a tiny bit early but it was a beautiful way to execute the big bank and the huge angle through inside clip one but staying on throttle using that d cell zone as as more of an adjustment zone there reader was really struggling on the big bank to try to stay with the nofa he gets close to him here through inside clip number two does a good job through the smoke line but you can see he kind of straightens up a little bit there on that last transition and so he'll have some work to do in his lead run because denofa certainly put down something that the judges really want to see he was consistent and looked very solid all the way through we know that de nova can put down some of the best chase runs in the game so right now travis reader is going to have to work hard to make his way into the final four if he wants to be chelsea denofa yeah he's he's really going to need to throw it down and do something really sensational that x factor bring it but he knows that chelsea all right looks like michael essa's strapping in he is ready to throw down for right now eyes are on travis reader and denofa the type s title fight [Music] reader initiates into the bank a little bit but now jumps up mimicking the exact angle is the nova pass the front flip really well done i believe denofa may be playing it cool but now no he does not zero chill right there on the side of the s13 that is old red chelsea de nova ready to round him saying hey how you doing staying out of the cold standing on the smoke yeah that was a bit of a hulk smash there that was a solid performance top to bottom from chelsea denofa solid lead run came back in the chase and just absolutely murdered it on a number of different areas of the course with a lot of pressure mimicking the line and angle let's take a look at it he starts by putting the pressure on reader from the get-go you can see surging attack backing off now starting to reel him in again reader allowing that he's putting down a pretty good lead run now janofa backs off through inside clip number one and then this transition right here he's gonna surge again for a second attack on the inside bank floats it out there finds reader's back bumper sticks on it good lead run by reader here allowing this to happen but denofo looking super solid here on his chase run and looks like he's going to be moving on into the final four with that performance yeah that was that was just too much too much for reader to make up really solid execution there well done so uh let's make it official we'll go we'll go to the judges and see what they say remember we have to go back to the taguchi essa battle find out who's doing good who's staying out of the cold all right looks like uh yeah talking to uh our statisticians here seeing uh seeing what's up all right and there we go chelsea de nofa gets the win on over here chelsea nice work congratulations on your win the longest irwindale track that we've ever seen talk about tire wear and trying to uh keep those tires working for you yeah i'll tell you why like i definitely try to drive 100 all the time and my right foot is having a really hard time at driving 70 percent uh just to keep enough tire to be able to go 100 of the lap on both tries so luckily we've got a sick car sick nitto tires and and we still have some grip so we're definitely using what we got and uh i'm hoping to just keep doing that all the way through doing a little bit a little bit of cruise control with the gas pedal you know your next battle you're gonna see michael essa what are your expectations battling him i think it'll be a good battle i've gotten to chase him a couple times out there so i think we had some good runs and i think we have the car and team to take it all the way today looking at championship point standings the door may have been open for you are you thinking about that at all no not really just uh one pair of tires at a time where's your comfort level with this track oh it's pretty good i've crashed a lot here and done some stupid crap here so i've already got that out of the way i know the worst case scenario so we just got to cruise on through chelsea thank you so much guys got that out of your system huh yeah well we'll we'll see uh but yeah you know chelsea just he's all over the place man he's uh he's ready to go he seems he seems really calm he doesn't seem like really eager beaver just again one step at a time and uh you know his the rtr team captain you know von kitten jr leads the pack but he's got to go through frederick osborne could we see an rtr final we'll see but denofa's gonna go through essa so three champions already in the final four getting osbo essa they're all going for a second champion championship essa not in the equation as far as getting the overall but there is the bracket that's how it shapes up in the type s top four vaughn king jr against osbo michael essa against chelsea denofa yeah we've seen these four guys be around this part of the neighborhood quite a few events michael essa with that third place in seattle and uh looking to do battle against chelsea nofa you know you talked about him as a driver and i think this year more than others we've always kind of known as we take a look at some of the competition points of what's at stake tonight that chelsea's one of the best drivers out there this year in particular for me it's kind of had the feeling like he could win at any given event at any time and that's that's a different feeling that i think that we've had in the past and that could just be maturity as a driver a program understanding what he needs to do to win he obviously got that win right out of the gate in st louis and he's done battle with vaughan getting junior a couple different times and getting right there to final fours finals a couple times this season consistently basically i think has turned over a new leaf for him and uh i think it's definitely something to be super proud of yeah so we're getting word that turk will stay in second but chelsea and osbo gain some ground of course essa jumps up not part of the equation of final three overall in the season but still would love to play spoiler and if you look at it three of the four drivers have already won a competition this year so vaughn will gain more ground depending on where he lands above ryan turk but turk will stay in second so that's gonna that's going to be interesting to see if osbo could could help out turk because they're both toyota they're both papadakis and knowing papadakis i i i think it was against like trying to remember who it was osbo and and the team said let's turn it up we don't want to get walked on man so they they put a little extra sauce on their little salt bay jams yeah i just got a text from one of our other statisticians and if vaughn gittin jr wins he'll be 60 points ahead of turk where he currently is right now so if he doesn't win uh and he makes it to say second place then you'd be 40 points ahead yep all right not all at once not all at once one at a time here and single file order who do you have to get the win here tonight is it von gin junior frederick osborne michael essa or chelsea de nofart oh nice we're doing the waves solid one can that even be coordinated uh we don't know where everybody lands so no not really this is yeah you guys are getting a virtual workout i feel like we're doing like a zoom orange theory or something like that yeah we're seeing uh a lot of 2j fans out there somebody says is that is that kid doing the macarena what is that whoa that got weird real quick [Laughter] all right so our our first battle of the top four the top the type s top four and this is the type s title fight literally vaughn gittin jr frederick osbo you see the numbers you see the stats we're going to start doing a lot of if this happens yeah please do i got the first one um if vaughn gets knocked out in the top 16 on sunday and turk wins he can still win the championship ivan get not gets knocked out in the top 32 and turk gets second he can still win the championship so there is a there's plausible pathways there for him uh and we're gonna start hearing about that with respect to the other two guys uh that are in the championship chase as well one of which is going to do battle against vaughn getting junior right now and that's frederick osbo the type s title fight formula drift round seven remember tomorrow and tomorrow night the final round round four of the link engine management pro 2 championship as that's been just an exciting exciting series this year so much talent really looking forward to seeing how that all transpires um so that josh love he went hard into the wall i think caught air is pretty pretty violent i know he's calling all hands on deck to see if he could get to get some parts i saw that last night on social media hopefully he got something together and then of course on sunday round eight the final round of this type pass title fight 2020 formula drift gittin jr will lead frederick osbo giving chase any claims out of the gate on this one uh vaughn's gonna gap him i think i think he is watch this i think oh we got a restart ooh i should have bet you yeah but he slowed down don't we're not betting i'll bet you i'll bet you a beer all right yeah michael essa's shaking some things up you saw him under his hood thrashing wondering what's going on there yeah i hope that there's no issues with the car i'd love to see it really solid final four battle with him and chelsea denofa could be opening some things up who knows just uncorking the thing because he knows he's going against chelsea to noah and he just saw him run against reader and just twisting the screws on him saw danofa against field and here we go we are ready restart strike one from vaughn getting junior what do you think junior get a gap up that's not totally gap but definitely had some distance had some legs on him but no ospo closing the door with that toyota super well done bonkin jr transitions past that front clip let's see if osmo there he comes that rock star energy drink toyota supra to the side of the monster energy nitto tire four performance mustang rtr spec five deep breath coming into that last outside zone both of them right at the line oh doctor come on make some noise vaughn getting junior and frederick osbo yep yeah the fans definitely respecting that that's kind of more or less what we came to see a good fair solid battle between two top competitors let's take a look at it osmo trying to not let vaughn get away and he sticks with them on the big bank trying to maintain that same line and angle does a pretty good job nice transition through the smoke line there surging forward let's look at it one more time big angle from getting coming down off of the big bank osmo got caught in a little bit of a tough position for a second but made an adjustment now getting right there he's just below that white line but still deep into that zone osbo takes full advantage of it super close really really tight on that transition right on the back bumper of getting and that is what we like to see great way to start off this final four battle is now we'll switch things up and here we are as osbo will now lead checking the bank making sure there's no debris looks like vaughn keeping the nittos hot and toasty all right so we got some debris okay some debris up on the bank and what's good about the track is uh at the start it's there's not a heavy bank here this isn't like wall or anything like that but uh here we go we take a look from the sky this was the battle that just happened there vaughn gittin jr leading oswald given chase yeah that's up super high i'm getting a nosebleed look at that again the truth be told cam yeah yeah it's almo it's almost so high that you you're mostly looking at the smoke that's being created there but as we see this last little s section you can see just how hard both drivers were pushing and really get a good perspective there of um you know kind of what needs to be done on this second run both drivers really doing their roles appropriately and making some strong moves osbo now will take the lead let's see if he can do something here to push back against vaughn gittin jr who's established himself as a clear leader now all right so almost a little bit of a moment of silence there just witnessing beauty some great driving here we go who's going to the finals osbo or getting osmo leading vaughn jr given chase aqua initiates look at this gap again oh we get into the wall again taps it osmo comes down now coming past that front clip let's see how they handle the second outside zone hotma gets all the way out there monkey junior coming just a bit short now tucking into that smoke signal let's see how they handle this transition osmo smooth and fluid vomiting junior he drops in so uh some some uh some violent moves there from vaughn getting junior but let's take a look yeah osmo definitely gapped him on the bank but he gave the judges a little bit of an opening because he did come off the bank a little bit early he got a quick snap into the big bank and he starts pulling away from getting now he's on a mid high line see how he starts coming down doesn't stay all the way in the zone vaughn tries to make an adjustment so he can be in play here and that's where you can see like how far down off of the bank that he came but leaving that zone a little bit early and that will definitely go against him even though he did have that gap against getting from the onset now getting is starting to come into play here through inside clip number two good transition there trying to find a tighter line to gain that proximity but oswald's just so quick gets on the throttle uses that grip and starts pulling ahead just a little bit all right taking that taken of taking it all in there as osbo led von kitten jr just taps the wall judges requesting side by side here well done by both of them yeah i mean i think you know you could pretty reasonably say that osbo had the better of the chases but osbo did come off the big bank a bit early and maybe that will have an impact on how the judges think that gittin could have done in his chase yep of course we're gonna go to the side by side that's pretty much standard here let's take a look getting in the lead on the left osbo on the right see that gap established and then osmo in his chase super close to vaughn and mimicking what he's doing on the big bank right so he makes that mistake in his lead but he pretty much does a pretty good job as the lead driver the remainder and vaughn really doesn't come into focus as a chase driver until about the second inside clip or maybe prior to that on the second outside zone about halfway through oh fans are saying one more time i don't know i don't know if they're they're selfish or they legitimately think it you know what i mean they just want to see some more some more driving you know uh osbo would love to love to slow the getting trained down and i know ryan turt's prone for uh frederick osbo as well both these guys toyota papadakis racing [Music] talking about pizza solid one there's pizza everywhere i say we just make a custom discord server right now [Laughter] all right go go for right now so the judges are still analyzing are we going one more time are we going with vaughn getting junior are we going with frederick osbo which way are there judges going chris ewell brian eggert ryan lontane who's moving on to the finals and we do have a third place battle because of no qualify still waiting for the outcome here i believe we're all in here we go slide him left for getting right for osbo one more time from chris ryan lontine says frederick osbo and eggert says one more time there we go so it's a one more time battle ryan lantane going to you if you would throwing your headset there real quickly and and uh ryan uh asking you some questions here one more time bud yeah one more time from the other two guys uh i went with osbo because i thought he had more proximity in the chase and made less compromises in the chase position to maintain that proximity in the late position he came off of outside zone one a little bit early but i think he did a better job through the early parts of the zone he had a better job getting into outside zone two earlier and deeper and uh von's chase he dropped a tire coming off of outside zone one coming towards inside clip one on drivers left so i just thought osbo was cleaner all around but the other guys thought it was too close to call all right right on well thank you very much as now we are seeing the other half of the final four the type s top four essa and denofa all right so again three of the four in the type s top four have won events earlier this year essa is the only one that has not he would love to get on top of the box here are the numbers about a thousand horsepower i know denofa used to campaign a bmw back in the day he knows what that vehicle is capable of but he says we got the team i've crashed here i've had some things go down but it says we got the car we got the team we got the tires but michael s is saying so do we just wondering what why essa had his hood popped wonder what he was working on there here we go denofa out front has in the chase position [Music] middle line of that bank and here we go into that second outside zone oh man that's a shallower and not all the way out look at that now he gains the proximity no but given him oh taking out those cones so that's uh that's going to be offline but uh you know just just seeing where essa was on the bank and on both banks the top and uh and the second outside zone yeah except for maybe being a little bit lower than he could have on the big bank and going a little bit wide into outside zone three it's a pretty solid lead run from de nova you can see his mid high line there essa pretty similar trying to trying to track him down you can see a pretty close mirroring effect there good transition by both drivers diving into the second outside zone and essa makes a bit of a mistake there you can see the front wheels were moving around as he tried to ground himself to look for a position to attack denofa here goes well off just takes out those cones and excuse me essa did a pretty decent job of not following him off course that extremely but he did make some mistakes of his own in the chase position and now we will switch things up here as michael essa will go to the lead all right here we go essa out front danofa in the chase taking a look at the back end of danofa's vehicle shredding that back bumper off looks like getting thumbs up let's see uh essa getting pretty steamy there under the hood as don't think we've had an rtr final and trying to find out and looks like we are clear to send and here we go essa out front to nofa in the chase position are we going to get a victor essa slingshotting into that bank danofa not letting him run away with it look at that working it higher never gonna quit now into that third excuse that second outside zone the lower bank yes sir look at this that's a nice lead run to nofa that gold nose diving in on that last outside zone oh internova comes to a halt de nova comes to a halt in that out last outside zone ryan that was very unfortunately where my michael essa fans at a lot of denofa fans going for pulling for the pizza man danova may have given this one away here and it was from a pretty solid chase run up until that moment he he's really starting to kind of master this surging attack while staying on the line the transition from inside clip one to the bank was just beautiful right there he gets through mirrors essa surges forward again and essa right here tucks deep into the second outside zone and as the nofa is aggressively chasing him it looks like he's got this one on lock right here he gets super close angles up almost hits essa now let's take a look at essa through that section again watch his wheels there's a decel zone right there and then essa is starting to get back on throttle and of course it it happens in a detail zone or right near a decel zone if this becomes a topic of conversation here it is so that that right there was a decel zone right prior to outside zone number three so what i am interpreting that as is that michael essa is de-selling about to get back on throttle into outside zone three and denofa is just coming up a bit too hot again just you can't measure the percentage of slowing down and and how do you anticipate that you know i mean outside of knowing and the spot in your head like okay you know this is a detail zone wait you know and i didn't see anything that was that abrupt and just violent stop well denofa was killing it up until that point like it was going in his direction well fans what do you think esser de nofa slide him left for essa right for denofa and michael essa gets the win he is going to the finals so he's guaranteed a podium so a lot of de nofa fans they are absolutely stunned but uh you know danofa comes to a halt oh man oh come on there you go do the wave rock the wave there come on wow so again we have the one more time on one side and then we got danofa sitting waiting in the wings for the third place battle essa goes to the finals all right so as we are seeing so thank you guys and gals for joining us here again that uh the aem virtual fan zone it's been a lot of fun run yeah it's been a blast i love seeing the fans in there everybody's having a good time it's definitely like a cool added element um and very fitting for not having fans here we get to kind of participate and have some fan interaction in some weird kind of way yep yep yep uh danofa man takes himself out just uh came to came to a halt there that's a bummer a lot of these fans are cheering them on yeah i you know this happens from time to time with chelsea denofa just a little bit a little bit too much you know he always talks about dialing it back i'm trying to do the 70 and you know 70 for him is like 120 for for other people and uh he's just i think for him no matter what happens this year it's been a a great showing for him across the board he's no doubt a championship contender he's no doubt out of the mix uh even up until this point he'll do battle for third place and reset and come back tomorrow but for the time being we're going to go back to this one more time battle between these two contenders here vaughn gittin jr who's currently in the lead with ryan turk now falling down a little bit but still in second place and frederick osbo can make a move right here if he can get past gittin and take the win tonight yeah this is a big one here so again we are still in the type s top four michael s has entered into the top type s finals but who's going against him gittin or osbo again types provided all the lights the official lighting of formula drift getting will lead osmo giving chase we saw this earlier this year who's coming out on top and we got a clear we got a clean start no cones were hit bank and junior tapping the bumper stays in it hit it to win it past that first front clip in that transition into that lower bank let's see how they handle it throwing some more angle into it nitto tire filling irwindale speedway back into that final outside zone and look at this ryan well done and to be honest quite expected from these two pilots that was a great save by vaughn gittin jr it will be you know a slight mistake for him but it was a beautiful save in that big bank we know what happens if you go in there so that definitely takes some high level skill osmo on the other hand again another strong performance in the chase he locks into getting early falls back for a second here that's where we see getting tap the wall and save it makes it actually look pretty good it could have been a lot worse and now osmo's gonna try again the second surge to bring it home but look at getting right up against the wall beautiful job there leaves the outside zone at the perfect time osmo through the smoke line as getting transitions here it is one more time from inside clip number one as gideon locks into this outside zone as he gets further into the zone he gets deeper into the zone osbo adjusts with him and that's what you want to see from the chase driver this final transition here though is a bit of an exclamation point for osmo look at this right there through the finish line so we've seen the lead we've seen the chase they switched things up will we find a winner here who's going on to the finals yeah that was that was really well done liked what osbo did you know as far as chasing him down kept kept some great uh you know proximity you saw that we're seeing a lot of people cheering for osbo we're seeing one more time so here we go osbo will lead von guin jr giving chase who's going against essa send it here we go osbo the toyota supra the ford mustang down and there goes osbo let's see how vaughn handles this in the transition both of them picture perfect past that front clip bucket junior look at that get to the side of them they are tapping walls rubbing tires clutch kicking wrapping around that oh and vaughn jr loses it in the chase position and look at that vaughn gittin jr taps the wall he spins out the ford mustangs beat themselves wow oh man i i thought if vaughn could have locked that in i thought maybe he was going to be able to pull that off i i could tell by the transition that he was going in for that tighter line i didn't expect something that extreme uh this time osmo i think he did a little bit of a better job on the big bank though he's still coming off a little bit early see the end of the zone is up there yeah so he's still coming off a little bit early he's leaving some stuff on the table for the judges but right here getting surges right into the pocket i mean that is beautiful rubbing frederick osbo and watch this he's lost in the smoke line the transition he comes and he's on the wrong side he sees the k-rail he bails out of it now this time around there's no question about it vaughn just made a mistake there and it it's a mistake that you can appreciate as a drifting fan because he was pretty much transitioning completely blind there by being right in the smoke line of frederick osbo yeah that was that was a real tough one unfortunately he takes himself out so let's make it official slide him right for frederick osbo and there it is frederick osbo gets the win and it's going to the finals osbo versus s in the finals guys what do you think man osbo and essa are in the finals and it's going to be rtr for third place guaranteed now the question is can achilles tire get the victory we're seeing omg we're seeing a lot of drivers excuse me a lot of fan surprise and there we are so osbo is going against essa getting in denofa for third place so we'll get some fresh nitto tires underneath let's throw it down to loretta nickel lorette who you got michael essa we saw you wrenching under the hood and you told me you are dealing with a bunch of gremlins what are you experiencing so first lap of practice i did a lead run and jtp was behind me and he said going into outside three that there was just a bunch of water dumping from under my car so we went and looked at it the radiator cap had popped off and i think it was due to pressure i think we're losing a head gasket so we've got the cap on there now zip tied shut and we got our overflow tank that we drain every time to make sure all the water goes into the tank um we got some stop leak we put that in the engine and now we got a misfire we changed some plugs and a coil and now that seems to be okay so i don't know we're just out there running so where's your confidence level going against frederick osbo i mean i think i haven't had really time to think about battling anybody it's like i'm thinking about the car the whole time and what it's going to do and just i see a car in front of me and just try to stay in the door and it's working out so i don't even know what to ask you at this point because there's so many adjustments that you have had to make all day long luck thank you yeah thank you oh my god michael i said thank you so much guys wow that that is a lot and uh yeah that's it's absolutely crazy what he's been dealt with zip tied the radiator cap on and oh my goodness yeah so here's the bracket is definitely not uh here's the thing look at that ten i mean how many 64 76 i mean that's considerable amount of points osmo will definitely i think you from you know doing the the math that i'm hearing over the comms and just you know from what we're seeing on the on the screen here it's going to move into third place now now how big the gap is between uh him turk and gittin is going to be what we'll be thinking about for tomorrow but in terms of what's in front of us right now with getting and denofa and how important that is the one thing that we haven't gotten as fans this year is a complete battle between those guys every time there's been a wreck or a crash out we saw it in seattle we also saw it in texas yep so i'd like to get that here tonight well i mean no better track than than irwindale they're very familiar with it they know what to expect but they they just go for it you know so yeah it's uh i mean it's it's gonna yes i agree with you i completely concur all right third place how are the points going to shape up let's find out what's the vegas odds on a full pull um low low come on i hired to hire tier vibes if you want a clean run here we go i don't know these guys they know to throw down but they gotta race on sunday again they gotta run here we go all right so keep it high there's monkey you're tapping there goes chelsea he's following him up like i told you their bumper budget into that outside zone they are throwing a brick on it chelsea dope was talking about hard to oh doctor look at this chelsea making his presence felt yeah all rtr ready to rip you solid come on put your hands up what are you talking about that time vaughn went into the wall and made a bigger correction in the lead that was one of the bigger differences he did go into the wall against osmo and made a great save this time watch the front wheels it's going to be a bit more of a correction see right there from that angle it doesn't look as extreme but we'll see it a bit more extreme from this angle watch the front wheels oh we just we just got into it a little bit late glitched it but jenova on the meanwhile is looking solid in the chase run dives right in here now i love this flick back around super pressure on vaughn gittin jr and then whip right here massive angle right to the back bumper of getting and getting right there on that outside zone is running a perfect line which allows that to happen yeah that chase transition right there was gangster like you said that we see that from pollock we see that from you know chelsea nope obviously we see it from a few drivers and i think our fans are loving it so yeah great transition there from chelsea to nofa let's see again lead vs lead chase vs chase what's going to go down now chelsea gets the clean air out front can vaughn get in junior mimic or better that chase run all right making sure uh the track is clean let's take a look here ryan this is from the air like you said vaughn gin jr see him tapping the brakes yeah right there what i want to see from uh the roof camera is just how much the front wheels moved i think to me it seemed a lot more significant than against frederick osbo and you know that may come into play depending on what happens on this second run but uh denofa was you know in it the whole way getting was pretty solid outside of that of tapping the wall but you'd love to see mistakes that are aggressive and you know that's the one thing that's going for him here is that he made that mistake and he got back into it and had a solid lead run the rest of the way okay so here you go let's take a look at the front wheels actually from the roof cam if we if we could it seems you get a better perspective there and we're uh getting the debris off the course as our drivers are on the start line yeah that just looks so cool the purple the green and that shot right there that's a that's a perfect opportunity for larry chen to get some great side-by-side action between these two mustang drivers here battling it out for third place right here we go second second run for these two rtr gentlemen chelsea denofa out front banking junior in the chase position all ford all nitto all rtr goes into the wall and there we go i told you it was going to be low keep an eye on chelsea chelsea does need to complete the entirety of this run he does have the lead run so if he was in the chase he wouldn't need to complete it but chelsea needs to finish this out in order to get this victory and a third place finished well let's go back to vaughan because that was actually a pretty hard hit yeah that rear bumper got into the wall and it really just with a pretty sizable amount of force whipped him into the wall and i have to imagine there's some damage there but physically that is actually pretty scary that was one of those quick ones that really whips you and you can see him down here that's just off the bank looks like some pretty sizable damage from what we can see out of the chrome that's good yeah okay great you know here you know what do they what do they say you don't look back at explosions yeah so the first run will be inconsequential now because that right there see that man that is such a hard hit and denofa was able to finish up the run obviously we see this quite a bit especially as we're moving deeper into competition he's super close now he's in the smoke line he's lost right there the back bumper grabs gets sucked up into the wall de novo is actually almost lucky he didn't as well right got really close there towards the end but i mean that's how you got to push you got to push well this is i mean he he knew that uh he had a really good chase run so fawn was like man i'm not gonna let him beat me and uh you know what he beat himself well we didn't get the full pull you were right however however just to think you know for a second here about the championship this is better for frederick osbough this situation here is better for ryan turk yeah for ryan turk for frederick oswald for those guys getting will be stuck in in fourth place and osbo at least has one more position that he can go and uh it can just kind of bring that gap down to set up what might happen for tomorrow and now uh his team is going all right well let's get this thing strapped together because we gotta run on sunday let's make it official slide them left for vaughn gin junior or right for chelsea to nofa all right chris brian and ryan all side for chelsea to nofa de nofa his third place here at round seven as uh let's go down to loretta nickel who's with fredrick osbo thank you jared frederick we were talking about outside zone one and how treacherous it actually is there's a lot of grip down below but there's the tire marbles where the judges want you to be so how do you toe that line between success and failure oh my goodness it's one of the hardest things we do as drivers and like you said it's almost like an edge where if you fall off you'll be riding the wall or tapping the wall if you don't make it up to that edge it'll pull you back down so it's it's it's a balancing act and um you know as the night progresses and going against some of these faster guys like jr we're obviously dialing in more grip in the car and that makes it really hard to stay up there so we're just giving it everything we got right now you said that yesterday during practice you were struggling a little bit trying to find the right setup are you dialed in now more and more so i mean gotta remember this is still a brand new car and i'm digging it more and more and more and you know the job's not done yet we'll be seeing my good friend michael s in the finals and you know let's see if we can hold it together for one more battle i'm definitely trying to do my best to contain the excitement right now yeah absolutely how do you do that because when you're gonna face a former champion as are you yourself how do you keep those butterflies at bay couple valium and no yeah it's uh it's it's hard it's it's and that's where i've been trying to basically learn the inner workings of my head like what do i need to to stay calm and for me it's just to be around the boys and and you know shawn and mario and and and aldo and of course matt that they're doing their best to trying to keep me calm and and you know it's it's all a community effort over here yeah can they read your face can they see when you start to get more stressed out i they can probably hear it in my voice you know because we were all hooked up over seeing a few there all right so uh this is ryan there goes that is vaughn gittin jr finally being towed off here with that flatbed a little bit of extra work for them tonight and uh you hope the damage is not too bad we've seen you know some frame adjustments by hitting that wall that hard sometimes and you don't want to really damage that here's osbo again now osmo mentioned getting pulled down now on both runs oswell came off that first outside zone a little bit early and that's something that i think you know he that he's what he's referencing there when he was talking to loretta about how challenging yeah that can be as a dial more grip into the car now against mike olessa you mentioned maybe he's not completely aware of how essa's car is gonna perform and that throws in a new variable into the system that they're gonna have to try to account for now osmo will be taking the lead first so the pressure is not so much on him at least out of the gate but that may give him an advantage just being able to see how does esther perform in the chase is he a hundred percent is he right with him he can kind of dictate you know what his strategy is going to be on run number two knowing that run number one he just has fresh open air yeah yeah and and it's it's gonna be it's gonna be very very interesting so vaughn making his way back to the pits there with that flatbed we'll get him off and again check the check the track and make sure the debris is all off of it because next stop on this train is the type s finals type as the official lighting of formula drift talked about the title fight this is the type s title fight here round seven so again tomorrow we have round four the final round of the link ecu pro 2 championship that is going down tomorrow so it looks like our drivers will be heading towards the burnout box we're talking about michael essa frederick osbo there's essa and his fcp euro achilles tire liquid molly bmw and osbo will be heading over talk first of all are you okay that was a really hard hit i'm 100 it wasn't it wasn't hard and that mustang absorbs it well yeah what happened uh no i just knew chelsea was all over me i mean i literally felt him in my car the whole run and i knew what i had to do to win and it was do the same to him and hope he pushed him into a mistake and i was just a little bit deep on the bank and i touched and i just stayed in it i was just like drive off the bank drive off the bank and uh sure enough it did not want to drive off it just nosed up and i knew it was over so i just shut it down and that was that well gunner is sure happy to see you hi buddy and from your perspective what did you see yeah in his lead run he got a little deep in the middle of the bank probably similar in the chase i didn't see that part but he had a little bobble and a correction but he gave me the best lead run to chase ever so i was just dialed on his door i don't think there was a gap more than five feet most of the lap it was perfect i was saying it's almost like cheating chasing the same car and we have similar driving styles so i know when he gets in the gas the car is going to do the same thing when i get in the gas and i was just bummed i didn't get to have the chase we're really good at this where like one of us doesn't get a second run it feels like seattle all over yeah there's a couple different runs we've had for sure this is what it is as sport and you know driving against competitor like chelsea like you know and even osmo tonight like you just gotta go in and like if you don't you're losing so what's the risk a little damage at this point are you thinking about the championship points nah we're gonna show up tomorrow and do the same thing again minus the crashes and uh and uh you know see where it stacks up you know i feel really good i'm really proud of my team i'm really proud of chelsea and you know we know we've got we've had more practice than everybody else out here especially the guys that are in the championship chase so i feel good i'm gonna go home rest have a fun day with the family we go on a hike tomorrow and reset and get ready to rock on sunday right now seems to be doing so not as high as osbo now past that front flip wow blazing into that second outside so there goes osbo rocking the camera into that front cliff nice job well executed osmo dialing it in and you can see essa he's overshooting he's kicking back a little bit there looks strong on the front end but now look at this yeah it looks like essa's car has maybe 95 of what oswell's car has right now in terms of grip on the track oswell gets a good jump we were wondering how essa and his vehicle would perform we know that he's got the driving skill does he have the car right now with everything that he's dealing with to hang with osmo notice osbo this time stays deeper into outside zone one and he's higher on the bank so this time he made an awesome correction in his lead run he gave something for michael essa to work with but essa was not fully engaged didn't have the the speed to deal with um frederick osbo in some of these critical parts of the course and you can see the gap right there coming into inside clip number two essa pushes a little bit wide as he tries to gain back a little bit of ground from frederick osbo but so far frederick osbo is literally and figuratively in the driver's seat here against michael essa we'll switch things up michael essa will now go to the lead frederick osbo will chase him down oh how we doing there yo look at y'all tuning in let's go put your hands up put your hands on my eyes can see there we go you talk about driver's seat ryan but vaughn getting junior regardless of the outcome of frederick osbo will be in the driver's seat as far as the championship here we go let's send it formula drift irwin dale michael s us fcp euro liquid molly achilles tire bmw in that lead position osmo gives himself a little bit of room here doesn't know exactly oh flirted with disaster but look at essa hanging tough nice and high was essa here comes osbo in that second outside zone essa gonna leave it all out on the track again that thing is smoking coming down into that last outside zone and there's pizza and osmo like i said ryan even if osmo gets the win von kitten junior still has the points lead wow man great lead run by michael essa especially on the big bank he pushed a little bit wide from inside clip number two but check out this big bank job here by michael essa starts on a midline and starts working his way up nice angle here fills that zone completely osbo pushing the pace does a great job on proximity he's a tiny bit lower but it's so hard to do that for these guys especially at that really dangerous critical part of the tracker we just saw vaughn go into the wall essa once again into the second outside zone fills it nicely great angle here and as he pushes out to outside zone three he pushes a little bit wide that caused them to get into the zone just a tiny bit late but he makes it look great osmo meanwhile pretty much maintained consistent proximity he surged a couple times looks like the arrow is pointing in his direction but we will find out from the judges who's going to get the win here tonight a very valiant effort by both drivers and especially with mike alessa from everything that his team had to deal with just hearing some of the challenges trying to keep the car cool and some of the problems that he was able to fix up so that he could have this great run here in the finals with frederick osbo wow so agree all right the judges do have a winner the judges do have a winner here at round seven of the formula drift pro championship [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right we've had a rough couple weeks trying to figure out what to do after texas and they went to work they've been working non-stop at the shop we did find another 150 horsepower and i have to say it feels amazing to finally have a real advantage on the car the car's freaking killer okay in your opinion did you drive a perfect event and if you didn't where would you critique your driving nothing's ever perfect i guess but we i think we got better as the weekend progressed or the day progressed i mean we're not even in the weekend really yet uh but um it was we had some good battles with with jr you know back and forth there could have gone either way until he had that slight mistake and maybe in some way that was a little bit of redemption for two years ago uh but overall it was great great battling my good friend michael s in the finals here and you know this is this is everything i dreamed of what will you and your team discuss what will be your strategy going into the final round well i think i just blew the motor doing these donuts here so i have some explaining to do to move to steph uh it was uh i think it goes to show the stress that we put these cars under and we have spares we may not have that plus 150 horsepower spare so now it's back to the drawing board enjoying this for some split seconds and then try and come out swinging on sunday frederick osmo thank you so much go to pro 2 tomorrow come back on sunday it'll be interesting to see how the drivers adapt to that obviously they can make those repairs to their vehicle vehicles come back strong for sunday and we got a championship fight there's going to be various scenarios that can play out obviously osbo really did a great job tonight second win of the season he matches getting four wins in the overall season and he didn't have that great of a middle section and just goes to show you if you persevere and push through you can put yourself in a position he's got some work to do but we're also going to be focusing on ryan turk and vaughn gittin jr how are they going to be set up in this bracket will they be on the right on the right-hand side of the bracket together the left-hand side of the bracket together opposite ends of the bracket the story is going to be told in just a few minutes as frederic oswald is going to be picking a number between two and 15. and uh that'll be that'll be after the
