about two years ago i received what i thought was a 2001 yamaha yz125 it belonged to a childhood friend and now subscriber it had been burnt to the ground the bottom end was completely blown the top end was completely blown the cylinder needed to be replated it just needed a lot of work my buddy had all of the intentions of rebuilding it and just you know life gets in the way and just like so many projects out there and basket cases they end up in bins and they just never end up back together so my buddy called me up and he offered it to me for the insanely low price of free 99 how could i say no it was pretty rough and even my buddy didn't know what pieces were missing and uh what all was there it was literally in bins all the way down to the frame and after looking at everything it turns out this is actually a 1998 yz-125 if you follow the channel over the past two years i have attempted to start this project multiple times only to be overshadowed by other projects but i promise guys this time i'm going to finish it so unbeknownst to you guys i've been chipping away at this project behind the scenes and finally i have it to a point where all the hard work is done i've refinished all the pieces i've put new bearings in everything recovered the seat and completely built the engine and it's time to assemble this thing if you follow me on instagram you saw that we have named this machine the grape ape and it's going to be a purple yamaha it's got lime green in it it's got blue it's pretty much everything not yamaha colors there were some people that hated it it wasn't supposed to be these colors um i put up a couple renderings and the grape ape was actually a joke but overwhelmingly people voted that they wanted to see the purple grape ape so we're going to rewind a little bit and go to where we had all the parts laid out on the ground i'm going to show you everything that's going to be going into project grape vape but before i do that remember to give me a thumbs up please consider hitting that subscribe button if you're enjoying these videos and you want to see more of them and also remember to leave a comment in the comment section below and let me know what you think of the project great bait one last thing i want to mention is that all of the products and tools in this video will be linked in the description below alrighty so check it out guys i have everything laid out just for you well not everything but pretty much everything is out here i've slowly been chipping away at this stuff if you guys saw you know this frame was covered in rust and everything and now it's just covered in beautiful illusion purple that thing really came out nice rear shock redone by rocket ron the forks redone by rocket ron those are going to be i have this vinyl wrap i think it's actually in that tube right there but it's like a purple carbon fiber wrap i'm going to try that out and see if we can make those things look pretty fly and match the build got the engine right here there will be a complete engine build video an assembly video of the 144. that thing looks freaking sweet though man that's going to look sweet in the frame got a gpi radiator this came with the machine they were in pretty good shape some of the fins have a little bit of bends and stuff but for the most part these are really clean i breathe refinished them kind of gave like a brushed aluminum look got the purple lines uh air box is good to go we're gonna be running the air box that thing was so so dirty this is like all the stuff that i was doing in the background all the stuff had to be restored you know what i mean new bearings in the swing arm refreshed everything new chain slider new chain slider in the back check this thing out man got this really nice aggressive brake pedal all the controls and everything on this are going to be sweet there is my rear graphic for the swing arm i designed all the graphics myself and had agmx print them that's like my thing man designing graphics we got the black plastics here is side plate graphic the great babe i don't really know why i chose 167. my number used to be 67 when i played football back in the day and just throw one in front of it i don't know got the warp 9 wheels i had the hubs powder coated illusion purple to match the tusk wave rotors and we have tusk mx uh what the heck are they t10s forget exactly what they're called t35s they're tusk tires they look freaking awesome brand new tubes and everything in there graphics front number plate the gas tank i painted just scuffed and painted it that should hold up and plus there's gonna be graphics on there protecting it everything has new bearings the triple tree i just packed that with grease today and put a new bearing on there there's new bearings for the steering stem got this moto seat i had that not designed but i picked the collars and they made that came out really nice we're gonna be putting these black protaper bars on and these sweet um these are really nice levers they're universal but they have a pivot point up up and down and forward and back so they should basically be unbreakable uh that should look pretty cool though should go with the color scheme and do check these pegs out these pegs are freaking aggressive man i'll have all this stuff linked in the description what i like about these is that they are they have replaceable cleats billet bottom and then i'm guessing this is stainless steel really really heavy duty huge upgrade over stock and then i have this box back here this is just filled with other odds and ends the twist throttle this looks like brand new but actually that is completely refurbished by me again more stuff that i've just been doing behind the scenes some fuel line this is from ap3 racing we've got oh this was a swing arm kit that we didn't need i refinished the linkage that's in here i made this all nice and shiny and new it's got all fresh bearings and whatnot in there that is good to go got a whole bunch of tusk air filters so we're good to go on air filters got new grips in here uh we got um oh we got the new flap for the rear wheel on the air box can't have a junky one of those then we have a bolt kit there's some other odds and ends in there just basically everything on here is going to be freaking brand new and then i wanted to show you guys this too all the bolts and the hardware on this i refinished so if you guys saw some of my older videos with the banshee i put these things in the tumbler or it's actually a vibra a vibrator i guess you call it um it's basically like a thing you can fill it with sand or like any kind of medium and you put your bolts in there literally you can put them in there covered in rust and stuff and they come out looking like this this color like that if i can get this to focus and then what i do is i coat the tops in this very thin satin black and it actually holds up really good i did everything literally and it's thin enough that you can thread over top of it and it actually doesn't come off i mean it will come off if you really wrench on it but it's a good coating good protective coating i just don't want anything rusting and you know having rusty junky bolts on this thing would just make it look like hell here's how i coat all of them i basically just take a box stab with a screwdriver like a million times and then you stick all the bolts in there set your nuts and washers and stuff on there spray them down after they've been in the tumbler of course and you rinse them off and they're really clean and that leaves like a very very fine texture to them great adhere great uh surface for the paint to adhere to just a really cheap and easy way to refinish your hardware okay so let's get to assembling this thing what i want to do is we have this scissor stand that rocky mountain atv was kind enough to send us i'm going to set the frame up on the scissor stand you can actually bolt the frame to the stand so that your frame's not rocking around and stuff and then i think what we'll do is we'll throw the engine in that'll be the first thing we do and just start chipping away at this thing so here's our tusk stand now that i have this thing uh i'm gonna have to put this in the category almost of must have uh it makes it really convenient for working on a bike this will hold up to 300 pounds i was able to put the 250r on here because the 250r is pretty light and it lifted up i was able to work on it just fine but it's basically made for bikes and what's really nice is you can jack this thing up obviously to a nice workable area and you have i already put the safety bar in here but how you set this up you jack it up beyond the safety bar and then you put the safety bar in there and then you just bring it back down until it's resting on that safety bar and it won't go anywhere and what's really nice is you can actually latch down your frame so that you don't have to worry about the bike falling off the stand or anything here let me throw the frame on here oh yeah and i actually uh i started assembling without you guys i put the pegs on there oh man these things are sharp these are super sweet pegs i can't wait to give you guys a close-up of these things they're really really aggressive super nice so how this works is super simple you want to get your peg about in the middle of where these loops are and then we're gonna come in here like so now those pegs are sharp and then we've got this put that washer down see if i can do this with one hand here and then we'll spin down this nut and we do the same thing on this side all right and now our frame is not going anywhere this is going to make it really easy to work on that's actually yeah that's super nice all right now we can get the engine in there i have that towel down there just to prevent scratching the frame because we don't want to do that [Music] well guys basket case syndrome is happening for real um the hardware that i that you know was in all these boxes and stuff that i refinished doesn't quite fit these are the ones that i refinished not these ones up here i've been searching for the proper size bolts luckily one of the good parts about being me is that i've got a ton of weird and special bolts just from parting out and working on machines over the years got a whole slew of bolts most of these have been cleaned well some of them have anyways anyways uh these ones here i found i believe these are from a raptor 660. i just got done refinishing these things well not refinishing them but cleaning them i ran a die over the threads and i'm going to go ahead and coat those and i guess we'll just leave this as it sits with these things just kind of sitting in here and while the other while those bolts are drying we'll go ahead and move on to i guess the steering all right let's go ahead and put our triple tree in place i've already got my bearings packed put another tapered bearing up there you want to make sure they're packed like really good because if they're done right they'll last you a really long time we have this big seal that goes up here washer spanner nut most of this stuff i'm just putting into place i'm not going to tighten any of it down until later on in the process once everything is installed now we have another washer then the top of our triple tree one more washer and then a nut slide our forks into place [Music] what the is going on with this [Music] there's a small amount of powder coat and roughness that i cleaned out of the triple tree clamps that made putting the forks in a lot easier [Music] [Applause] [Music] so there's an actual tightening sequence to get this thing appropriately tightened down i have a nice smooth action it is a little bit snug i'm probably gonna have to back off the uh the lower nut down here i'm probably gonna go back around after everything is assembled and make sure that everything is right but for now uh we're good to go just to get everything in place make sure everything is aligned we'll get the wheel and stuff in there all right now it's almost time to put the swingarm bolt through i did go ahead and refinish this but if you take a close look right there you can see the threads are flattened out and i tried cleaning up the edge here it wasn't that but the the nut just won't thread on won't even get started so i need to uh retrace these threads i didn't have a die for this but this just came in the mail freaking sweet i have some metric taps and stuff but nothing this big this is an m16 by 1.5 uh so i needed a new tap and die set anyways especially for metric this is another one of those like i feel like it's almost a must-have especially if you're working on motorcycles and dirt bikes and quads and stuff japanese specifically is almost always metric but a lot of automotive stuff in general is going to be metric and it's just good good investment to have a quality set of tap and dives this isn't the most expensive set you can get but i believe this is a very good set all right m16 times 1.5 that should be right on the money right there all right we'll take our swing arm bolt here and clamp it in the vise now we'll just go ahead and spin this thing on it should clean the threads right up all right maybe the threads are messed up in this thing too alright well turns out that was not even the correct size nut so i think that was an m14 by 1.5 there's no other bolts in the parts that came with this bike so we're just going to make a bolt because that's probably going to be really expensive since we have this tap and die kit i've got this really thick nut right here and uh so i'm just going to drill this out and then tap it the correct size and this should work just fine these taps cut great oh yeah nice and smooth all right so there it is i just got done cleaning it up we coat this in that satin black and we should be good to go all right so while that's drying we're going to go ahead i want to switch out my reeds so this is the factory reed cage in here and i have some v-force threes now when i went to go put them on i noticed that they didn't line up properly look at that guys is that whack or what not even close that's that's like it's almost a quarter of an inch not not quite but that is way off i tried flipping the cage it doesn't matter that has to be fixed i stopped halfway through here because i wanted to show you guys what i'm doing here because you might come across the same thing so this is the intake boot the oem one i've already modified this portion the in the opening used to be in line with this square that's actually this used to have stuffers on it and they were cut off to accommodate the v-force reeds anyways you can see how much i opened it up it was a good amount but when you open this up i used a little aluminum burr here it worked really well you can't just you know go angle straight down and take off material i mean you could do that but it's not going to have optimal flow you want to taper the entire intake ramp so i took a lot of material out way up here and tapered it all the way down so you can see that whole thing it doesn't have like a sudden drop off that's really important if you want to have good flow and then i'm gonna i'm gonna take this area down too whoever did this just kind of chop them off i'm going to make that all nice and smooth and then i'm going to cut some new gaskets for this but that's the boot side and now on the reeds i removed the petals because you don't want to damage them and you just want to be really careful kind of monitor how thick your material is you don't want to go too far and i'm going to do my best to ramp this as well and keep it a nice and smooth taper but i can't i can't go quite as smooth on this because i don't know if that i have enough material up here and i don't want to go through um as you can see i've already uh got the cutting on this one uh but we're just going to go ahead and finish this one up you can see the silver marker that's the rest of the area that i want to cut out you also want to take your time with this because with plastic and rubber it can heat up and it starts to get tacky and melts and balls up and stuff so i'm not putting any pressure on this i'm just letting the tool do the work [Music] all right there's that side i didn't want to go quite as aggressive with the ramping because like i said the material is really thin there i don't want to go too thin you can see it in there but i did shape it all the way through there quite a bit we opened that up and see if we match this up now oh yeah look at that i guarantee that will have quite a bit more flow than it would have had previously i'm really surprised that it came from the factory that way i even looked at the part numbers on this thing i looked at pictures online and you can see just by looking at these boots i mean now they're matched up but you could see that they were not they didn't match up i'm not sure what the deal is with that but we'll be good to go now now before we install this we need to make some gaskets for it we do not have any gaskets for it i have this gasket material right here made by fel pro it's pretty thick but this is really good for intakes so luckily we have a really good template here with our reeds what i'm going to do is just snap the outer shell off we'll set our reeds aside and then this is going to be the perfect template to cut our gaskets so the first thing i'm going to do is because this stuff is really thick and it wants to curl i'm going to mark how big this needs to be and we're just going to lop off the section here to make our gaskets out of a fresh razor here [Music] now go ahead and mark the center [Music] now to punch these holes i didn't have a hole punch the exact size so i found this fitting and what i did is i took a drill bit and just by hand opened that up and it sharpened the edges so it's pretty sharp now if i tap this with a hammer on top of the steel plate it should punch out the perfect size hole not too bad check that out freaking like it's from the factory i just got to make another one for this side all right let's go ahead and take off the oem reeds these oem reeds don't use gaskets or anything there's a rubber seal on them all right now we'll put our gasket on the front side of our reed cage i did grease these gaskets it's just a habit i've gotten into it has a sealing effect and then if you have to go and remove the gasket or the in or the intake um the gasket is less likely to stick kind of trying to line everything up there i've got some longer bolts i'm putting in here because this intake is thicker now i'll snug this down all right let's get our swing arm and our linkage in place here is the linkage i completely refreshed this uh bearings and everything are nice and tight in it and you'll notice i've got an ics on all of the hardware that i'm putting in place i did the same thing with two motor mounts and we're gonna do the same thing with the swing arm bolt that we're about to put in some of this stuff may be snug because the powder coating adds a little bit of thickness sometimes you actually have to go in and take a little bit out but i think we'll be able to jimmy this one in there just fine snug is okay the actual powder coat is preventing this bolt from sliding through [Music] [Music] 60 foot pounds on that bad boy all right so we can get a swing arm on here got our swing arm bolt all nice and anti-seized up i already ran this through i made sure i didn't have to shave this thing like we did with that last bolt [Music] let's go ahead and get our carbon [Music] now we'll get this air box on this thing has seen better days for sure but it cleaned up all right see if i can get this subframe on here i had to shave some of the powder coat out so fitment was just too snug oh man this thing is coming together really nice got the subframe on there got our new tusk air filter went ahead and oiled that up with some pj1 put a new ufo uh fender flap in the back put the chain rollers on uh there's a lower one too just kind of starting to throw some odds and ends on there i also put the brake pedal on look at this thing that thing is super aggressive replaceable cleats put new o-rings grease this up we got nice smooth action and it's really really coming together i got the kickstarter on there um what i want to do is put the wheels on and then once we get the wheels on there i'm going to go ahead and check my squoosh i didn't tighten down my head studs or my base studs on the cylinder when i did the engine because uh it's kind of tough on the bench i like to do that when it's in the frame and the engine's actually anchored to something so let's go ahead and we'll get those wheels on now i suspect that this is going to be somewhat easy since we have this stand what i'm going to do is lower this down to about where the wheel would be the axle i think that might actually be a little too low get our new tires and rims man these things look freaking sweet let's just get this lined up a little too low right about there it looks like all right now i'm going to put a little bit of grease on the inner lip of our seals before we go putting our spacers in for our axle then we'll slide the axle in place i don't really need too much in here put it in there put the spacer in the uh the one with the kind of like horn shape goes on this side the brake caliper make sure you don't uh roll your the lip of your seal pop that in there there we go just roll it a little bit that one's good i'll do the same thing on the other side all right so for a second there i thought we had the wrong spacer you can see the huge gap there this side looks good and then i remembered that this bolt is part of the spacer total quad guy put a little bit of anti-seize on that before i slide this in [Music] man do those shoes look nice these tusk tires are pretty sweet the only thing is i didn't notice that they are directional until after i put them on and i noticed that i put them on in the wrong direction so we're going to do the right thing and we're going to pretend we didn't even notice that and move on to the back tire this stand i just i love this stand [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh man this thing is coming together really nice got the back wheel on there i went ahead and adjusted it i put the chain in place got the rear brake caliper on got the rear master cylinder on there i bolted up a reservoir up here got the new brake pedal down here um i have the post that goes through there i had forgot to coat it so that got painted uh so probably i won't put that in until like tomorrow or something i put the coil up here i'm starting to put some some like the rubber pieces and stuff on the frame just little odds and ends uh this one back here was missing there's some parts i'm gonna have to order again you know basket case issues you just don't know what you don't have but the one side was there i did my steering i adjusted that tightened down uh this the little jam nut on the bottom that's really only like barely a little bit more than finger tight then this top nut goes to 105 foot pounds and the steering isn't like so loose that you can drop it but it's nice and smooth and i think that'll break in i pack those bearings really tight with grease so that could have something to do with it got the front caliper on here all these parts i restored so you know like i said basket case this thing was i mean it was pretty much trashed everything was covered in gunk grit grime rust got new rubber uh grommets and stuff in the brakes put new brake pads in there well you can't really see them all these all the little rubber pieces in there all brand new um coated the caliper with flat black heat paint before i move on yeah if when you watch the build video i don't tighten down the cylinder base nuts or the cylinder head nuts um this these are loose too i'm i won't do that until after this what i want to do is tighten down these and then check our squoosh so the reason i'm not tightening any of this stuff down is because it's possible we'll have to change the base gasket to adjust our squish a little bit so you know i got the intake and stuff on there that's what's really cool about the crankcase induction you can have all that stuff on there and you can still pop the cylinder off oh and i wanted to show you guys you know all these little pieces and stuff that i'm doing you know if you come around this side all these little bolts like down here back here all these bolts up here when you have a basket case and you didn't pull anything apart it can be really difficult to know where the bolts go so i do get uh questions people say like oh how do you how do you know like where the stuff goes so any website where you can get a schematic is going to be what you want to use i use rocky mountain go to oem parts yamaha go to motorcycle 1998 and they have a schematic literally for anything as long as it's name brand yz125 and then you pick your schematic so let's just do we'll go to frame so if you get a frame here and you got a whole schematic here so like for instance the chain roller when i was putting that together you know there's two chain rollers and there's spacers and stuff it's kind of difficult to know so you can see it's got a washer spacer the um plastic roller piece bearing washer bolt so that's how i see how things go together of course i've got the service manual over there too but i really like using schematics i just think it's very cut and dry easy to see and now the other thing is here i'll show you like these bolts i mean a lot of these look really similar you got summer hex or hex tops regular tops um you have different bolts that have like integrated washers so it's i mean how do you know what goes where i'm really like weird with making stuff as uh original as possible so let's just say you want to see what this bolt looks like right number five so click on that it gives you the part number right here we're going to copy that and then we're going to go to ebay and on ebay paste the part number and usually you can find a picture of the actual bolt so there you go that's what the boat looks like oh actually i think this is one right here um but yeah so that just makes it really easy um that's how i figure out where all the bolts go so let's go ahead and we'll adjust our squoosh all right the first thing we'll do is tighten down our cylinder base nuts there's a power valve cover that covers the one so we'll have to pull this little cover off now the specifications for these are 21 foot pounds all the way around base nuts and heads head nuts so just checked on the service manual uh because i you guys always crush me on uh my tightening torques for the basic because i usually honestly i just snug these by hand never have a problem but i want to show you guys if you do want to torque them down how to do it i've got this motion pro tool right here uh it'll take pretty much any wrench uh we'll get it in here someplace where you can actually fit you want to be able to get the correct length here and you want to be able to do it at a 45 degree angle if you keep it at a 45 degree angle and you're in your tool i'll show you how this works it's probably a little confusing if you've never seen this before but as long as you keep a set of 45 it will keep the torque true you don't have to do any calculations so here's our torque wrench i've actually got this set to 26 foot pounds i'm gonna go a little bit heavier than what the manual suggests because we've got high compression and big bore so you got the little notch in the back plugs in like so and there's your torque wrench so like i said you want to keep this at a 45 degree angle like so and then your tightening torque should be true to what's on the wrench if you go like a weird angle or something it's not going to be accurate or if you go straight ahead you're lengthening your wrench and that's going to change how tight you're going so go to a 45 degree all right that one's good you also want to make sure you're gripping your torque wrench on the handle if you come up top you're changing the length of leverage and you're going to get different torque levels all right and i'm just going to go around double check these all right now we're going to tighten down our head bolts head nuts service manual it has 21 foot pounds we're going to go to 22 foot pounds you want to go into cris cross pattern and it's also a good idea to go in a series of tightening torques so you know do like 11 the first time and then 22 the second time going in the crisscross pattern as you do it executive decision before i do the squish i'm gonna go ahead and put the bars in place so that i actually have something to hold on to when when i'm kicking this thing over got some brand new pro taper yz high bend bars compliments of rocky mountain atv these things are sweet man should be a pretty nice band i like the look of the 7 8 bars with the old school crossbar on top too okay oh we got him all right all right here's our solder you can see where it's squished down to take our calipers make sure they're zeroed out in millimeters i'll get right to the edge where it's the smallest 1.28 millimeters that's a little bit bigger than what i would have liked for a 125 i was kind of hoping to be closer to one millimeter um that's not terrible though i could shave the head down i used the smallest base gasket that came with the athena kit so i can't chop the base gasket out and the head gasket i mean i guess i could get a different one it is a really thick head gasket but it will be fine it's not we're in the safe zone at least so let's just keep moving forward so if the performance sucks we'll just come back to that and we'll uh squish down a little bit tighter because the more compression that you have the more torque that you have and on a 125 i'm gonna need all the torque i can get with my fat ass so for now we'll button up the power valve and i think what i'm gonna do is get the uh wire harness and everything on cdi all that stuff and what i wanna do before i go any further uh with like panels and you know cables and is i want to put i have this carbon fiber wrap that's going to go on here and since everything is nice and open i've already set the forks and everything so these aren't going to be moving i couldn't put it on first because then you have to i don't know if the clamps would fit over the the wrap and it's just i don't know so we're gonna do it in two different sections sections piece it together uh but since everything's nice and open and easy to work on i'm gonna go ahead and do that now and then i'll put the fork guards on get try to get the forks completely done and we can do our controls and everything and uh man this thing is it actually looks like a bike now you know what i mean all right let's see what we're working with here see how this thing comes comes in a tube this is the uh the carbon fiber wrap if i can get this damn thing open i forget how much i ordered this but i got a lot because i just have a feeling i'm going to be messing it up oh it almost looks like a fork tube already i think this is going to look really trick with this build so i'm just going to go for it man uh see if i can get it on there with uh the least amount of bubbles possible before we move on i want to stop to thank everybody for making it this far into the video i want to take a brief intermission to thank the companies that helped make project grape ape possible rocky mountain atv ap3 racing lionparts.com and rocketron racing all helped between services and parts to help make the great vape what it is these are companies that i trust and use on a regular basis any applicable promo codes and links to their websites will be linked in the description below also if you haven't already and you're enjoying this video please give me a thumbs up and consider subscribing alright let's get back to it [Music] [Applause] [Music] this came out pretty nice i'm actually kind of surprised with the quality of the vinyl and everything i didn't think it was going to go on quite as easily as it did i mean it wasn't really easy it took about three times the first time i put it on there i got wrinkles and the second time i put it on i noticed that the carbon wasn't um all going like the same grain kind of uh if you do it the wrong way you know it would kind of you could see it was a little bit different so i had to peel it off and then do it again now i have all of it going in the same direction i think it looks really good if you come down to like all the junctures and stuff it really tucked in there really nice i mean i didn't even think i could do a job that good and uh what's nice too you can still see some of the imperfections underneath there were some imperfections in this fork i don't know you might guys if you can see there's like a little bit of a bump right there there was some rock spray and like little pitting and stuff in these forks they weren't perfect so this covers them up and it's pretty durable i mean it seems like it's going to be durable the vinyl like i said was a pretty good quality so that should actually not just have like a good appearance but that should protect the forks also oh and then of course i put the graphics rocket run on the fork guards i felt like those would be kind of difficult to do on the bike because you got to wrap them around the back so i put them on first and then i just wanted to put the fork guards on there to see what it looked like because i think that really completes the look of the forks it was too much silver going on i felt like so the covering up the actual forks with the black and then the graphics and stuff i think really bring this thing they bring it around it looks good so what i want to do actually is fire this thing um so i went ahead and did some of the wiring i got the cdi on there the coil uh and i where the heck is it i did the wire harness this was literally just like a bunch of wires before so oh my tape's coming off right there uh but yeah so i made the i tightened everything up cleaned all the connectors and then loomed this kind of made like a nice little wiring harness uh so i'm gonna have to put this on i'm gonna have to put the controls on and stuff i wanna put the run the throttle tube uh put some oil in the engine just get this thing ready to rock and roll so that we can fire this thing up make sure it runs before we go any further oh you know this chain i meant to mention when i had put the uh the tire and the chain on look at the grease on there man this is an ek chain i think it's called 3d by ek but man they don't play around when it comes to grease there's a ton of grease on there all right so let's go ahead and get the controls and the wire harness on there don't be alarmed guys we're going to start introducing green into this thing right now it's like pretty much all purple there's like a tiny little bit of green right there but it's about to get radical [Music] as i'm doing these controls i wanted to stop and show you guys there's a bunch of little things that i've been doing to just kind of bring her around again make this bike really nice a little stuff like this first off this thing was cruddy man this engine stop button it was filled with all like grit and stuff so i took some lacquer thinner and a toothbrush and just kind of scrubbed all the dirt out and stuff there was a piece of plastic that was uh kind of sticking out to the side i shaved that down just to smooth it out and you can see we got some naked wires here and like a break in the sheath so just like little stuff like this you know when you're restoring a bike if you put this there's nothing wrong with this really but if you put this back on there especially up by the controls it just i don't know man it kind of adds like the final touch if you make all this stuff look like new of course you could just buy a new kill switch but who's got who's got time for that who's got money for that so what i'm going to do is wrap this with some electrical tape this will add some rigidity to it and some strength take some heat shrink and slide it over everything up to the top where the damage is and i'm going to run it inside like that a longer piece would actually be better to cover that but i just looked and i don't have any more heat shrink so i'm just going to double up it'll still look pretty good double it right there so there's that easy enough to do that'll clean up the look of the bike and just make it look more brand new [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] so i warned you guys be afraid be afraid the colors are getting weird man getting kind of crazy i do think with the lime green and the graphics though that it's gonna pull everything together so all of our controls are hooked up uh clutch cable it's nice and smooth um i have that all hooked up down here give that a pull if you guys are doing a yz the clutch actuation arm right here is supposed to be lined up with this square portion of the case just an fyi brand new cables everywhere a brand new throttle cable up here god i love that sound nice and snappy good smooth action this is a an all balls cable clutch cable is motion pro um the old brake line got our kill switch everything is hooked up all the wires are hooked up before i bundle all of this stuff up and tie it to the frame what i want to do is see if this thing fires so i'm gonna throw the tank on there i've already put the oil in the engine um we're running some 10850 dirt bike oil by amsoil um i'm trying to think if there's anything else i'm forgetting pretty sure uh just give it some fuel and she should fire all right let's get our tank in place this was one piece that was missing with this project it did not come with a gas tank i had talked to dave about it the guy that gave it to me and he didn't know what the heck happened to it uh just lost in storage or whatever and some people were asking how did you get a black tank because um pretty much blue was the only tank color it came from yamaha and you could get an ims tank those were um they had like the natural clear color which i think looks like crap because it always yellows and i think i think they did have a black tank but it's all weird it like comes up real high and everything it's like their desert tank i literally painted this i scuffed it with a scotch brite cleaned the hell out of it uh hit it with lacquer thinner which just gets all the impurities and stuff out of it at least you know to a certain degree and then painted it with plastic paint people are like oh it's not gonna hold up it holds up dude even with uh fuel the banshee's uh tank is painted it's got so much gas on it that's years old it will hold up plus there's gonna be graphics on the side so it's gonna be protected revenge of the basket case it's always something man i just noticed there's no fuel barb on this damn thing i guess when the dude i guess when they pulled the fuel line off of this thing it just pulled the barb right out i've never even seen that before what's funny is i rebuilt this petcock and i didn't even notice didn't even notice so i'm gonna run down to the hardware store and see if i can find a brass fitting for that real quick because i don't have an auxiliary tank or anything just what the all right they had this little brass fitting down at the hardware store this should press in there perfectly we'll see that should be good put on our official grape ape fuel line from ap3 racing man that's really snug seems good to me i'll probably put a clamp on that almost forgot i got to put the exhaust on [Music] that should be fine all right great ape first start i've got the fuel shot off so if we have any weird like runaway idle or anything it'll all we have is a fuel in the bowl prime it a couple times it's got good compression all right [Music] that's pretty easy that is that first kick that might have been first kick all right so we have the go the bike runs it sounded really good too it honestly sounded like if you adjust the idle a little bit it's gonna run really great uh so there's a couple things that i have to dial in here uh but basically we're just gonna i'm gonna finish this damn thing obviously can't leave this this way so i'll figure that out tidy up the wire harness i'm actually going to have to pull this out and put some some sort of cement in there because it was just leaking very slightly from the brass fitting so i'll fix that uh what else obviously plastics graphics little adjustments i mean there's really not that much left to do so let's just do it get these gippy radiators on these came with the bike and they seem like they're in good shape i cleaned them up kind of gave them like a brushed look plus i got these cool purple lines found them on ebay great addition [Music] [Applause] before i put everything on i want to show you guys the wire harness you can see i got it all nice and tidied up it comes up in here and it's wrapped around a couple times and then just loosely bound together all our cables up here are ran really nice you can see what it looks like over here see the wires the harness and stuff is kind of tucked away nicely i have the hour meter wrapped around our coil right here runs up top to the steering stem right there made sure nothing hits so you got our hour meters good to go i ran the overflow line down the frame for our radiator and of course uh power power valve breather right here wire harness is zipped to the frame everything is really nice and tidy so one other thing i did i pulled our new barb out because it was very very very small leak coming from between the brass and the aluminum so i pulled it out slightly and then i put a little bit of epoxy around the outside of it and then push it back in so that it pulled the epoxy in and then i just kind of put a little bit of epoxy around the edges you can't even really see it people you can't kind of can but that shouldn't leak anymore so we're gonna go ahead and put the fenders the graphics and everything on there and finish this thing up before i go ahead and do that i want to show you guys this kit it's a tusk bolt kit this is for uh yamaha bikes it's 184 piece kit and if you have a basket case this is just kind of it's just really handy to have they have all kinds of eight millimeter bolts in here these are like aluminum spacers for the plastics and stuff they've got nuts uh special stuff for like the forks a lot of times you gotta run these things different size washers and so i've already used a bunch of stuff in here they have you know crush washers for your banjo bolts integrated washer bolts use sprocket bolts things like that just an awesome kit to have like i said with a basket case man you're always missing stuff you gotta have it [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] foreign it's starting first kick cold with no joke so that means the pilot is probably on the money i have a 45 pilot in there this is the stock carb if you guys are yz guys cmx i'm running a very rich mixture um it's probably about 28 to 1 for this initial break-in period sounds pretty good oh yeah look how smoky that is i think maybe we went a little too rich my god definitely rich all right no time one tenth of an hour i think i'm going to thin out the gas a little bit i can see a little bit of a build up already on the inside of the exhaust i don't want to gunk up like the power valve and stuff probably just knock it down a little bit ah the kill switch works that's good all right well i feel like we we kind of have to take it for a little maiden voyage here we have no brakes that's the only thing but that's okay we have rear brakes i think i haven't bled them yet so i haven't bled the front brakes at all because that one i put a new master cylinder on so there that's entirely no breaks and then the back i mean i pressed on and it feels like there's brakes so i guess we'll just have to feel that and hope that it stops yeah the rear brake we have a little bit of rear brake so that's all right [Music] it's gonna be weird i don't like not having a break second third fourth fifth sixth all right we got all our gears it's got a little bit of grunt i mean i'm not gonna do anything crazy this is still just a warm up gonna have to put a little bit of time on it plus i suck at riding dirt bikes last thing i need to be doing is riding with no front brake but it's nice and smooth it feels like a brand new bike honestly the jetting feels really good i mean we won't know until we actually get on it but it sounds good we might actually be on the money oh my god i just fell for the front brake and got like a stomach drop i was like sounds pretty good man i don't want to go nuts just because like i said you know there's like point two hours on it i guess i did a decent job on the the wheel alignment because it's not shaking like crazy feels good man it's pretty responsive i missed the gear there the shifter's um a little bit further forward than i usually would have it this feels really good definitely running really good i can't believe the jetting is so close suspension feels good it's set up for me a 200 pound rider suspension was done by rocket ron [Music] i love this thing oh my god again with that break such a weird feel awesome bike man i think um gas looks a lot better now it's not smoking nearly as bad i thinned it out [Music] [Music] one hmm well it's starting to get dark now so i think we're gonna have to pack it up for this one so i think we can officially call project grape ape in the books i'm going to say this is good to go as far as a video series there's some odds and ends that i want to do if i was waiting for all the parts and stuff this video series would go on forever so there's just little stuff like the um the radiator louvers i want to get those ordered those will just pop into place that's just good against like roost and stuff and damage the radiator the little brake line stay wraps around here i swear i saw that in the parts i don't know it might be kicking around but i'll probably just order one i think you can get billet ones that's pretty cool get a little billet stay for that uh back on the swing arm there's plugs that go in here they were missing i did end up finding plugs that went to go in the back of the frame so they're all good obviously the front brakes need to be bled because there is there's just no fluid in them and uh front brakes would probably be good back brakes i'll bleed those too and then just you know tuning it and stuff it actually feels like it runs pretty good i want to rip it around make sure it's got enough power it felt like it it gets on it pretty good out there it's not crazy i mean it's a 144 and i'm a fairly big guy right now i'm like 210 pounds but i mean it moves so we'll see once you really wring it out and get up in the rpms i bet you this thing rips when you got it revved out and the best part is we got everything together and we really didn't have that many leftover parts we only had these bolts left over uh these bolts left over these gaskets left over and this box full of parts i'm sure it'll be fine we don't need any of that stuff but seriously i mean i i have no idea like dave what is all this stuff man i i have no idea what so many bolts big bolts too this is kind of scary that we didn't use this stuff but yeah so it's probably just parts from other bikes and then these were duplicates and stuff that's the stock exhaust i already sold the expansion chamber uh we have some blue gpi lines that came on it those actually probably would have looked good too but the purple is just trick this is you guys asked for it man we did a fan vote on instagram and this was the wild card it was kind of like a it was kind of a joke and it was like overwhelming how many people voted for this thing like like 2 000 people voted for this it was crazy so you guys did a good job with the design i guess the way it's set up with the aggressive foot pegs the suspension being set up for my weight i think the power is going to be good for me the brand new aggressive tires from tusk i think this is going to be a really good bike sorry to say guys uh not gonna be a giveaway and uh probably not gonna be for sale either at least not for a while i don't have any dirt bikes it's been a while since i've been on two wheels and i really enjoy dirt bikes i may not be very good at riding them but i really love riding them so uh i don't have a personal dirt bike this is probably gonna be it and uh you know maybe in the future i'll sell it but for now i think we're keeping it now none of this could have been possible without the companies that helped out i've got all the companies on the side of the tank i have all these companies listed in the description below i trust all these companies i don't just try to like blast and promote anybody uh lion part specifically has really fast shipping so does rocky mountain atv though they're both really consistent rocket ron great guy he's done pretty much all my suspension on all my bikes uh i have yet to test this suspension i've never ridden a dirt bike with a suspension on it felt good just jumping up and down on it but you can't really tell but the atv suspension is absolutely excellent definitely a great guy to hit up for your suspension needs and of course i want to thank all you guys for following along and being patient with me for the past two years uh finally getting around building this thing without you guys watching my videos liking my videos commenting on my videos i could never do all of this stuff that i love doing uh so i just appreciate all of you guys all the thumbs up everything it's just i love you guys appreciate it so that's gonna wrap it up for project grape eight probably have a couple videos kicking around here and there with me actually riding this thing after i get it dialed in and whatnot but we'll be moving into the red 400 ex that i picked up for 500 bucks that's quite a while ago too i'm gonna say probably like a year ago that one's been kicking around in the back for a while all these projects have just been kind of kicked you know to the side for other things but it's time to get these things done so that's what we're going to do next i love you guys i'll see you in the next video peace out [Music] you
