Ford Mustang v Lexus LC500 - V8 DRAG RACE

hi everyone matt watson here from carway i'm sat in a ford mustang bullet next to me is a lexus lc 500 and we're gonna have a drag race because actually these cars are really evenly matched this has a five liter naturally aspirated v8 that has a five liter naturally aspirated v8 this has 460 horsepower that has 460 horsepower this has 530 newton meters of torque that has 530 newton meters of torque however there are some differences this has a six-speed manual gearbox that has a 10-speed automatic also that car weighs a bit more it's 965 kilos this is 1851 kilos price is different as well 60 000 pounds for this 90 grand for that access still the guy who's in it can probably afford it it's annie from the animes y'all jan how you doing hi matthew i'm playing around with this car i don't even know what this is all you need to do is find the sports mode which i think is up on the instrument pinnacle get that into the sporty setting things should look a bit red and when the counter counts down you just hold it on the brake then floor the accelerator yeah that sounds really simple well this car is quite complicated as well because it's a manual yeah it has a launch control system which holds the revs at a certain kind of rpm that you choose and then you just sidestep the clutch but i've been messing around in it and i find it easier to start without that launch control system working and just doing it myself but we shall see so shall i put my foot on the brake and launch it yeah like the usual way there's no launch control just hold on the brake build up some power and utterly useless hello [Music] now that was lexus neither of us could get away however once i did i was gone yeah i got thrashed my launch was dreadful this thing just bogged down it was having none of it i was talking to the viewers about how the launch control system's no good not faster without it i find it easier to start without that launch control system working and just doing it myself i think i might have just had to eat my words can i have another go where i try their launch control systems if it's better yeah try that obviously i've got no launch and this was a bit weird and it bogged down like yours but it's still pulled three two one it was a bit better got him on the line come on now catch him [Music] it's all if i get changes now come on what's up oh we're gonna catch him [Applause] he was smiling oh no we're gonna catch him no we're not yes we are yes we are oh where's the line where is it i can see the big cheese grated grinnell on your face when you pulled away from me but then when i caught you i don't know who won that they won that close i don't know i actually don't know so then what exactly happened well once the launch control was working on the forward it beat the lexus but only by the narrowest margin with both cars completing the standing quarter mile in 12.6 seconds now we have a rolling race cars are in their comfort settings he's going to be an automatic i'm going to be cruising along in fifth gear and i have to drop it down into the third obviously let's do it three two one [Music] [Music] yanny and he's pouring it down it's getting wetter and wetter mate it's the end you want that okay then now we're going to have a rolling race this time we're gonna be in manual mode but because that lexus has got 10 gears well here's in third gear let's say 40 miles an hour i'm going to be in second 40 miles an hour ready i'm gonna count it three two one go yes double this come on this is really close come on oh my god he's gonna pull away in there i can see nothing come partial at 1.35 [Applause] yeah let's break i can't really see anything come back for a break test this would be fun now we have a brake test 70 miles an hour if we can spot the line with all this rain we'll try and stop on it okay we've got this cause of manual for a moment i would have missed the clutch his brake head was really hard really that was weird the brake pedals felt so hard clear wind there for the lexus on the brake test uh yeah i don't know what happened to me i it just didn't stop that great and yours is heavier as well but the driver the Edit: I was right, Lexus won easily. But it's mostly 'cause of the Automatic transmission vs manual transmission.. Also, brake test result was totally unexpected for me

I guess the question then becomes, if you like both manuals and speed, is it worth the tradeoff in performance to get the 'stang with a stick? Especially given the reliability of the 6spd, which seems to be suspect.

I wonder what the result will be if the Mustang had the 10 speed auto. Also I thought the Bullitt had 480hp not 460hp? The GT should be 460hp

Own '16 GT with 470hp and tried LC500 cabrio and it felt a lot slower. But it was with winter tyres. Hope it will be my next upgrade. Interior is stunning.
