[Music] there is nothing better than a good rivalry and we've got one of the best in the entire country every time the Cougs and the Huskies get together which they are doing this afternoon in Husky Stadium hello again everybody for the 86th time it's the Cougs and the Huskies going head to head I'm Don Feuer along with Clete Caspar with the Cougs Chuck Nelson coach Don James with the Huskies of course and this is prime sports Northwest version of APEC keeping in the theme throughout the weekend since President Clinton I know you're watching anyway as far as these quarterbacks this is a rarity for us Clete neither team really a big name at the quarterback position we're used to a lot of Bledsoe Darnell's and all of a sudden we've got some guys who are fresh off the the roster here Chad to grignr for the Cougars just came off the scalp team so it's gonna be interesting to see how he plays today he's one of the featured players along with Deron pointer who is a senior playing his really his first home game playing for his boats in Tacoma but Chad grandeur I talked to him earlier this week and my main advice to him was don't force the football if you've got to run the ball which he does real well go ahead and do that because the Huskies love to force you into mistakes and he's got the ability to run this toe looks like he's going to be okay little tender but he'll he'll be fine Darren pointer is a guy that just has a knack to take the simple and make it look spectacular he's the guy the Cougars got to get the football to I'd like to see the ball in his hands ten times today let him run with it after he catches the football important today for the Cougs to play well on defense the Cougars second in the nation in versus the run and these are the two of the guys are the reasons Dwayne Patterson had an All pac-10 week against UCLA and then we've got Anthony McClanahan joining Patterson also the leader in sacks in the pac-10 was 17 and he needs to put pressure on bjornsen and also keep keeping napoleon kaufman between the tackles final lemon to this guy Anthony McClanahan who can put the hit on you anthing McClanahan a football news second team all-american and he's a guy that has been the real focal point all year long for this cougar defense they are two outstanding football whether you're wearing purple and gold or whatever and they're outstanding and as usual it is applicable week and of course the Salvos were fired very early in the week Chuck Nelson Cougars had a bye week they've had two weeks to talk instead of just the usual wine but certainly the most vocal of the Cougars has been defensive lineman Chetty he threw the gauntlet down to the Husky big boys and challenged those offensive linemen saying that offensive line for Washington he's the weakest link on that husky team and two of fifth-year seniors they're going to have to pick up at Colin and play very well here today Pete Pearson and Tom Gallagher the two tackles coach well they will be playing it's to find offensive linemen in Hall and Patterson and but if the Huskies expect to win one a win they're going to get execution out of these two tackles certainly a good execution there you saw Tom Gallagher blocking down and frank napoleon coffin against UCLA if you're going to get the ball off your own goal line those upfront guys have got to do the job well here number 71 Pete Pearson at the left tackle here does a good job of sealing off the inside napoleon kaufman is not the number one rusher in the conference strictly on his own he's getting a lot of help as well the Huskies want to win today they're going to have to run the ball coach you mentioned some very good defensive linemen for Washington State but some veteran players for Washington up front yeah there's there's a lot of good experience they've got Garcia back and so I think the offensive line with the chatty eatin comments earlier in a week they're anxious to get this game on on the defensive side of the ball for Washington the defense they're gonna have to play well today as well and a couple that have played well all year Jamaal Fontaine and DeMarco far again a couple of seniors getting a chance to play in their final Apple Cup they've made a lot of plays together right here d'marco Farr gets the play started and Jamal Fontaine helps to finish it off good leadership up front from these two guys Jamal Fontaine has been an outstanding pass rusher all year here you see the help he gets from DeMarco fire forcing one and two the other and Jamal Fontaine finally gets the ball out versus Danny O'Neill and Oregon but defensive pressure against a young quarterback in Chad to grignr will be important for the Huskies on defense no question if they can get them into a second and long third long and with these two red shirt seniors they've gotten better each year about 32 tackles for losses as you mentioned about 10 sacks between them and now they could make it a little bit tougher for the for the Cougars to get the ball to those outstanding receivers a couple of seniors on offense a couple of seniors on defense have had a lot of success here in Washington their final game as Huskies a great apple Cup Saturday to come and to make the game even more interesting the last 11 Apple cups 6 & 5 Cougars lose winning 5 and the Huskies winning six so the series has tightened up a little bit the last few years and it will continue in just a moment as we bring you the kickoff in the starting lineups right after this you we might get lucky today the weather barely kind so far as Washington State has come in to take on the Washington Huskies in the 93 applica Don Moyer Clete Caspar Don James Chuck Nelson broadcast by committee today by a gal a well represented it sounds like the beginning to 60 minutes tick tick tick let's take a look at the series overall many of you I'm sure have it memorized the 86 meeting Huskies with the lead overall and here in Husky Stadium as you can understand or as you can see [Applause] and the information since back in 1962 and the Apple Cup officially all began and the coops you might remember when they won their second straight it was here in Seattle as Mike price now one in three against the Huskies is in his fifth year and Jim Lam right in his first applica as a head coach and still trying to get that seventh win which would make him the winningest husky head coach in his first year always exciting Apple Cup Saturday Huskies with a chance to put a a bit of a glimmer on a on a disappointing season the Cougars with a chance to go six and five a winning season Mike price would like to win a road game in November a good place to start right here in Husky Stadium Morgan SD to see if they will kick off our swift kick coin toss won by the Cougars and they chose they're gonna kick it be no Brian from the free fino the 30-yard line good returned by the senior here the Huskies now it'll be Erickson again starting lady 45 percent of his passes for interceptions yep they burped and the people behind him napoleon coffin jones a captain in his last game as oski likewise for joe crolick Janowski who's been playing very well the last two three games and Mark Bruner a tide in the big let by Jim the battle the senior in his last game for the Washington Huskies first and ten ball officially on the 31 yard line of yours is going deep right off the bats got a man and he is overthrown Janowski the intended receiver and he was John rushing defending the free safety for Washington State defensively for the Cougs coming over from Pullman Chad Eaton who fired the South Poles early he is one of the front floor of there a talented front for for washing Patterson outstanding likewise the linebackers especially McClanahan over a hundred tackles this year Torii Hunter leads the group all juniors they're all coming back or rather underclassmen on second down in ten Jones carries for maybe three yards up near the 34 yard [Music] inside TJ full kurz the senior getting the outside linebackers starting spot on the bottom of the pile Huskies ride away on first down a big play too has made some big plays deep in the last couple of weeks little miscommunication on that fans rushing and Drake burns but all overthrown second down a good game but still third and long it is third and seven to be exact wide receivers two to the right one in the slot and one to the left side as goranson goes upstairs intended receiver Jill Kralik and Huskies will have to punt and joke and now that sidelines with his life after running him to the Cougar back into the bench I believe Joe was open he had Joe I guess they'd get the football interesting first series again let the Cougars know with all that van coverage we will go deep on here Jones from the Cougar standpoint on defense that's exactly what they'd like the Huskies to resort to is bjornsen throwing the ball as opposed to given the bald in the Nepali an interesting thing on that last play that the running back Pinot Bryant was split out into the wide receiver and you'll see it much of the day as john merdell punts spiral to the right side Jay Dumas giving chase gets it on his own 20 it's past the first wave enough yard line where [Applause] Jarrid mains makes the stop and the Cougars on offense Chad the grinder at quarterback starting at 49% growing so far his first Apple Cup 1 TD one interception and the folks starting geldan Johnson starting in the backfield ahead of the banged up Kevin Hicks as far as of running back spot Brett carolyn outstanding tied in and the big guys up front just stunning one of the captains in is in his last game for the Cougars first and ten ball on the 29 yard line two receivers to the right and pointer comes in motion to keep it on the ground Johnson not much there as they try to establish the running game just like the Husky a lot of shifting and a lot of motion again when you shift that defense have got to change up their signal Jamal Fontaine DeMarco far in their final game here in Seattle as a college athlete anyway they'll take a shot at certainly d'marco Farr well in the NFL spring scared playing in his first Africa with chambers on the outside actually I think Andy Mason was out there and Hairston recent Jones and lions all returning all underclassmen second down and Poynter comes to the nearside with two to the right the grandeur looking to throw these streets there they're getting far along we mentioned that the Cougars on defense want to see Washington Washington on defense wants to put pressure on jackin grandeur we talked in the open about the bringers ability to run with the ball Washington would love to see Jennifer Garner run with the ball well look like actually he had a slot he just picked the wrong way to run well there's left and right with a good job like we said not trying to force the ball somewhere and having the ball picked off in your own side nice job by spring stead coming out of pass coverage and force [Applause] three receivers to the right side Johnson time to throw looking for Carolyn got him David Kilpatrick there to stop at the toy five or six will be fourth down in time to punch in mr. Johnston a real cheap shot there [Applause] July Fontaine and that kind of sets a tempo you better better on the clowns head on a swivel looked like a clean shot to meet you there Steve Johnston averaging almost 40 yards per punt john merdell had a four seven hang time on his first punt and that's exactly what Steve would like the Cooter's the nine and hit plumbing all that much distance this time a low spiral chance Lupino to do something where that can't stay in bounds we're gonna hit it low you better hit it into the boundary veto Brian trying to make a big play had room to run and he can stay off the white fake stay on the green paint hard to believe beam O'Brien number nine and the conference in front returning I would have never guessed that with his skill back there and no punters have done a good job of keeping it away from it coverage people have done a good job Johnston funding for Mike rice of 44 yarder so the Huskies in their second ization three yard line first in town and first carry flag down as he tries to go outside and gets hammered by Torii Hunter number 24 we got a free five yards it looked like one of the Cougar defensive linemen did not get back Chetty he's probably still talking down there I couldn't hear the snap count over is banter it's an interesting little matchup to watch Chad Eaton because of of his comments during the week and I was talking to coach Patterson that little talking episodes will last for about three plays and then it'll be all forgotten in these guys get back to the physical part but so far Chad's held his own in the middle one of the toughest sit competitors in the offensive line is Frank Garcia's a guy off our defense defense five-yard repeat first down Jim Vogel tant's the referee today Washington State I believe is number Tannen I suffer a lot of yardage that's not good when you're number 10 no no that's on the bad side again one of those little things that drive coaches nuts first and five now for Jim Lambright husky is Coffman second carrot trying to follow Frank Garcia for a first down [Applause] always say the least they called deployer now for celebrating again officials again we got on him last week and I want to get on again this week that's it if that wasn't sincere celebration I don't know what is especially he's over the direction of his own sideline unsportsmanlike conduct is the call he was going over to the but to celebration facing his teammate celebrating a great play that's emotion he's an athlete that's pumped up for the big game and again there's a lemon I don't like to see the dancing and I'd be the first to the fennel eyes that listen to the crowd reaction on this done contact against the often 15 yards I guess the only positive out of this is there was the first down on the play and that will remain first and 10 after the penalty is walked off nice play by Napoleon Coffman let's concentrate on the deposit if not to make it Evan hope Napoleon does the same stayed right with his blockers did a good job stood right by and Garcia Garcia playing after that foot is healed do first in 10 now for the Huskies ball on the 33 again top and a chance to get some of the back goes up to the 38 [Music] let's be faithful would disagree with chatty and there's been some grumbling about the play of the offensive line this year one of the strengths of the team and a lot of seniors up front and their last ball game you may see a lot of Napoleon Kaufman inside this afternoon suck it down in five Washington number three in the conference in Russia yards and wanting to throw set up the screen over copies head Eric Johnson has thrown three balls today all three have been overthrown the emotion getting pumped up on the part of Eric Bjork's and is definitely translating into the end of that right arm right here he's just trying to throw a scream nobody in his in his eyesight he's not trying to lob it over anybody he had people blocks as quarterback a lot of times these big games are negative with all the adrenaline that you can't even feel yourself you're so pumped up and I think that's what Eric's feeling a little bit I hate going on down in five [Applause] chuckles knocks amount of bounds so it'll be fourth down for the Huskies we've seen three third down so far today to buy Washington [Music] Washington State murdered these two teams our ninth and tenth and third down conversions in the back ten conference and they haven't done anything today to move up the list J Dumas who is sixth in the pac-10 in returns of course john merdell the punter for the Washington Huskies wind right now almost non-existent flag is grouped good putt those comes over good spiral Dumas back to his ten as men and men the Lake Johnson was pushed in the back nine times four three five and the Cougars had a good return out of that about 20 yards 54-yard punt guys let's give some credit to John were down be on the stick he's the one that ultimately made the tackle on a good tackler was field position important in any game certainly in a rivalry game we're going to be deep in their own end John coming into this game forth with the Huskies in net Punic which is oh so important when you're talking about field position Andy Mason getting the start pushing back on the return half position moving on 30 this love this just couldn't lay off and that'll back the Cougs back here's where you going to take care of the ball if you're Mike price I expect him to maybe berry from his scripted offense a little and feel pretty conservative down here zone three receivers to the right side from the six put crap Johnson gets through Reggio research trips him up but we've got a flag on the line of scrimmage looks like without without the whistle blow and I'm going to thank offense or the defense being offsides two to two motions in the hold I think out there that's what you want to you know what the what's the back judge called well Josh Dunning says it's on the Huskies got his men are many referees as we got broadcast defense offside defense holding Goliath and once again they concentrate on the five against pressure spread the field and run run the quick draft from poppet a good game for Washington State regardless of the penalties how does the defense hold on a running play I've never understood that either unless you hold a receiver somehow but he's coming at you to block normally well the the back judge looked as though he were you throwing the flag right at the point of attack and it was a trap player was well blah what would be the penalty what on defense aren't you allowed to hold on a running play I thought you liked another new rule since lobbying from the Cougars sideline to get that some wide receiver must have been hold on to it rather a cornerback holding on or something oh they come way out now from the six yard line clear out to the 28 yard line that's a big swing for the offense because they were like I said on their own 6-yard line coming a 27-yard line for big change in field position anyway then accrues goes in motion the slop back they keep it on the ground again Johnson looking for the hole and spring stead meets up with him along with Donovan Smith 352 I would assume the Huskies will see a lot of accounting office today we've had a lot of problems a couple of weeks trying to stop the play you see the counter to the backside guard and tackle pulling Ritchie chambers gets up returns to play back inside the state Springs that makes it good hit Cougars watch that SC k SC it was very successful with but for the running game this is pointer coming out all over the screen second down gets it - Carolyn has the first down for Washington State up to the 40 41 yard line knocked out of bounds by Richie chambers along with Luis Jones well Richie chambers that looked like he had the tight end and just let the sleep I guess they quit he saw was too grandeur trying to kind of sifting out from the block and a little bit not as attention and they brought him inside and the grandeur does a good job of throwing the ball to the outside where it can't be knocked down good pickup for the Cougars they're good conservative passes for quarter Carolyn with 40 receptions coming in bellicose again in motion first to attend from the 41 - pops it up big [Applause] and Reggie reser on the stop Chuck can you guess what play that was look at your counter tray there coach like Mario Bates or Shawn Walters or Bill Johnson you see the counter action back he comes with wok on French denim coca field really nice job by the right tackle play really reach to keep that down inside and you know part of the the counter tray is getting enough room for your you're pulling tackle to get up into the hole where's 210 motion this time three receivers right trying to go to Liam in this case the slot back dela Cruz as Lamar Lyons was defending put that one back out and even if they don't they've got Cooper spread out all over the field the Huskies backs in the ball game but spread out that field sentence defenders all over to cover those figures this is not a lot of bodies left in the middle now they've emptied the backfield about 25 times in the last four games and it looks like it's well it was empty pointers back there he'll go on motion he'll go there's this year second and ten two in the backfield now Dickson Johnson and they go to Johnson this time they're there Fontaine number forty-seven gets into the backfield this deep interest excuse me swing studies it'll be tough this deepness has Pisa playing so far it's very reminiscent of what we're used to see with a hitman guys two years ago everybody a lot of pressure and I think that's real confusing if you're a quarterback coming up the line of scrimmage and looking for a free safety in thing wait a minute there's nobody back there's no reason there's no reason so probably the best thing to do is hand the ball off and get out of there third down and ten at those Johnson quarterback Drive the drain here the furnace down to the 25 of Washington where he's tackled by Lamar wait I would guess that was a quarterback girl all the way all looked like it and the wait for the block Co didn't it yeah all the way you watch the block the double-team on the mark go far and all the pressure comes on the outside and like we said there's no pre safety there's nobody there to stop this and the grandeur does a good job breaking the first contact Malik over there and picking up a big first down Cougars now in striking distance and field goal range anyway 17-yard run Kirsten did now from the plus 25 pointer wide to the left side Reynolds to the right the micro therapy fourth reception of the year rather fumble recovery of the the Huskies are going to have to make some big plays and the Cougars are going up the weights a big play to win this thing and chock up with the number one big play of the game DeMarco getting in he's number 9 in the pac-10 in tackles for losses to shake things up as Springs that gets the recovery pretty good drive by the Cougar very good we're just a day let the worst case in that situation was the Cougars had to turn it over there's the three one [Music] [Applause] like a late hit there by this platform and you wonder why players do that yeah it's mind boggling rushing still trying to get out of the Husky play a peek alec is out there you know coach it's mind boggling to me to see Steve Morton over on the sidelines this guy was the coach as you see the the down player may be Napoleon no it'd be better if it were Steve Martin yeah vetoes on the field the Steve Martin was a cougar player a cougar coach and it's just it's good offensive line coach yeah he's a good man but I just can't believe he's well dick Barrett receiver coach that plate for the Cougars also yeah here you're gonna see the late shot he's definitely out of bounds and Ron child puts the hammer down way out of bounds and I'm surprised that wasn't called you know that's what's amazing it maybe was cold I guess are they walking off something they're walking on outside the point is you could certainly celebrate why can't you see me get tackled four yards out of bounds he looks to be okay yes paulien now getting that per carry yardage average backup there's at 5.6 first and five for Washington a recent wide receiver to each side as Matt Jones the full-back Terry he's very close to his first down first and five which is fullback you figure you're gonna get enough yardage to at worst set up a second in short this case looks like it will be just short of the first down subtle little fullback counter off the toss sweep and you know one of the things that the Husky defense offense they've gotten virtually nothing out of the just almost like a nun play we've gotten almost halfway through the first quarter no score yet complexion of this game as expected wanna play in the middle of the field and few points second and one all down from behind I think plan ahead in there with a hundred seven tackles coming into this game one of the coke captains for the Cougars and quite frankly one of the most exciting linebackers to watch that I've seen in a long time pretty good players on that cougar defense that three offensive three of their four defensive linemen in the top ten in the conference in quarterback sacks and then you got anthem McClanahan your leading tackler standing right behind him first and ten again with a fullback as US he's trying to bang away the Gallagher just take a quick little shot at Bray Oh Brian Ford is down got his ankle rolled over there at the end of the Payette play I think it was Peterson that rolled over the ankle and you can see him spring out of it let's take a timeout bro they tend to mr. Ford 717 remaining here in the first quarter of Apple Cup you [Applause] they're getting her on now here in the first quarter for Washington it is second down and eight after they took the injured Brian Ford off the field to get a report as soon as we can Hoffman nicely brought down by the Cougars McClanahan and child's he involved for Washington State the Cougars had a good defense up they brought Ron child's off the back side so he's unblocked he comes from six one alignment and they came it down pretty good really didn't make that good a hit Napoleon was a little disgusted and couldn't break that and pop outside he's a he's a tough little runner he's a freising Lee child with only five tackles for loss this year though they're down in seven receivers to both sides looking to the right again Royce for Matt Jones and Hayes breaks it up the sophomore out of San Bernardino we played with the pinched nerve in his neck jorts and is now 0 for 4 I was going to say that on his first couple he was overthrown in that one he was low on behind so he's definitely out of sync so far in the passing game he's made the adjustment that would you know the quarterback to you you want to give him something he can throw and get some confidence to speed it's wide open now what do you do john merdell who was involved in the tackle last time on the punt return hi satellite punt no spin nothing whatsoever and very tough to catch in a nice job by Jay Dumas just 30 yards so a break for the Cougars to not be back that's about a plus 10 yards maybe depend where they gonna market 26 so plus six yards had it gone into the end zone Johnny bobbled that snap momentarily and also kicking into the wind you can see the American flag is coming off the lake the wind looks like Kevin Hicks now on the backfield for Washington State he's had an ankle problem and that's part of the reason Delton Johnson started got a cruising motion all the receivers they give to hips instead and as you said he does indeed have the ankle and way out here a couple of weeks have been not fun for this young man Los Angeles you watch your replacement ripping off long runs though boyhood that fever goes down and that ankle feels better it's a trap play again and this is something that the Trojans had luck with they entered a trap to go along with their counter tray and the Cougars have run that play that Hicks gives you is really a pretty good receiver out of the backfield also they also have back there will Haskell be in the backfield on sucking down second and eight going deep pointer in a second David [Applause] down to 30 or Kilpatrick his fourth interception of the year but what an incredible down flip it was there was a block in front of the guy and then one of our defensive players husky defense players hit him in the back anxious to get a piece of somebody but you got to play smart even when the emotions are running high scores one to one in shots from the back so far we talked in the open about forcing the ball and that was one where the play broke down the grandeur as opposed to trying to make something this was a good rule change this year though and that this is a distance of person Kent now instead of a we had a lot of first and twenty fives in the past Damon you are coming in at quarterback folks as you see the replay I mean not a bad decision just two passes go along first attend Damon you're at at quarterback veno slicing off close so close to breaking it but a nice job by Paterson closing in to Phil well that's been the part of the defense that Mike prices has tried to improve is just the team speed you can see there the holes open and close it down in a hurry we've seen Damon at quarterback he started the Arizona State game was replaced and haven't seen much over since except for a little bit of time against Oregon State second down in seven Richard Thomas at fullback as well in for Matt Jones veno leave blocked by Thomas gets the first down stays inbounds Andrew Peterson [Applause] that is a play that there again with a new new place for this game you see a Richard Thomas enter in a kick-out good block by the tight end great Kakaako good block Jenny and and singer Mobley finally make the tackle as you say that's an unusual formation with both Titanes to the short side of the field and they took advantage of the great block and the ability of both of those guys see they got a wing here again with both tight ends to go together a lot of muscle over there with Bruner cotton well first and 10 from the 31 of Washington State [Applause] the line of scrimmage deal no fumble eaten being helped up by guessing plant a Hannon child's in on the tackle daddy said give me david muir he's probably lit up now like a roman candle i got a chance to go for the you are a quarterback during the project family repeat first down for penalties forty yards on Jim LEM writes us keys today and you ask yourself again split and why can't you get online discourage you know there's a wing on the other side running play off forgotten running first down and 15 [Applause] you were looking left me J McCarthy making maybe a little early Greg Berton stupid not on the preset drop-down I think DJ's got to have his head around this I think that was thrown pretty much on rhythm when you a great absolutely that's just even if you can't see the receiver over there that's just a plant and parole kind of deal and you can see that two that look more like a plant and kick [Applause] second down in 15 Huskies have still yet to complete a pass all on the 36v no we can get outside he might have some room gets a block from crawling short of the first down goes 23 yard line tackle by John rushing the free safety play and just a second effort by B no this is what speed will do for you the outside and then just flat out runs TJ fogers and then Joe crolick realizes all a sudden he's in the play starts to throw a little bit second and 15 a good game not to get the first down necessary but at least put yourself in an easier conversion situation Peter did a nice job of helping set up garlic's block to Torii Hunter had to stay outside he had to contain the throw third down and two for iord and the Huskies I've received to the left [Applause] we'll see if he got it or not child to McClanahan and Eaton kid vertical Cougars send a lot of people inside and that's right a big big pile of crimson white purple and gold that's when a weak option would have might still be going both linebackers were prevented and the Cougars had a call you know over the years we've done that on the other side so yardage shift those linebackers cover the gaps and they go outside well you remember Mike price waiting to see what they're doing on the other side of the field we had a field goal or they're going to go for it and they will indeed go for it certainly no surprise to see the Huskies go for it on first down they need a yard 21 times this year the Huskies have gone for it on fourth down timeout called on the field as the Huskies will huddle up and think about it likewise for the Cougs we'll be back Jr everyone remaining here in the first quarter fourth and one checking off Don and still it has the first down one of the things I was going to say there is with fjords and I would have expected option not with you urn and I think the thinking the same thing but good check for the young man you may know it's coming every time you play the house keys but it's still a tough way to defend against I've said that 30 times it was a good call in that situation a good check off it may be a situation where the option is the call coming out of the huddle and he just comes up and calls which way he's going to run it or they to say opposite pedal the Huskies now in the red zone on first and 10 B no couple the hitches and gets knocked out of bounds first time either team's been in the red zone that I know of inside their opponents 20 singer Mobley with the tackle and let's see what the flags about it's unsportsmanlike conduct I think on the coops for throwing McCarthy out of there out of their huddle singer Mobley referees have been busy here in the first quarter point in this way he's blatant that way well I'll tell you one thing DJ's little bit in a verbal dispute he won't back down [Applause] we have to be first of all we are friends [Applause] it's kind of a cop-out call I always thought that that was somebody somebody did something wrong call penalty that wasn't organized and walk it off who did it first and I swung second usually the guy gets caught and that's right that's right 2:03 left here in the first quarter you're wondering who all these voices are I'm Don Moyer we got Chuck Nelson Clete Caspar and coach Don James with us up here at Husky Stadium today you see the official calling signal callers and captains for both teams together basically saying come on fellas let's just play ball there's been a lot of shots a lot of John learn to believe just amazing I'm shocked second down and eight you're the quarterback [Applause] as you see huskies fare inside the point [Applause] Gregory really could incomplete rushing was one of the first thing that had the best shot at it I thought he had it gotta look here you see again the cooter send people inside play action and roll out ball thrown behind marked rotor up for grabs Drake birds there right there Richard's down in the flat Richard Thomas he could have gotten five I think he want to get up he'll try to get a little bit more but that was pretty well defended rushing is the one who initially bobbled it by the Cougars good call Jim Vogel pants and his crew Burns had a chance to pick up his fourth interception of the year so it's third down and eight for Washington on the Cougars 16 minute 54 to go first quarter Huskies 0 for 6 passing today two receivers to the left side along with the wing flown it out the bino time to get around the corner [Applause] I'm short of the first down stop by Jun watching the free safety you know having a good day today first completion for a husky quarterback gone Sasha chasing be no bribe and that's a footrace I'm going to bet on double ones every time you see again cougar send a lot of people I was gonna say nice job by her just getting rid of the bulk is running childish crashing from that 6:1 alignment and I see the ball popped loose a little bit therapy field goal will be attempted by the Huskies showing the first by one yard so it'll be a 26 yard attempt by Travis Hansen he is 9 of 10 inside the 40 this one from 26 [Applause] Lasky's the first on the board and today I have a feel goals are like touchdown three further purple Travis Susannah had some struggles this year but he's made some big kicks kicked very well inside 40 as you mentioned that makes it 10 for 11 inside 40 yards he's 1 for 8 outside 40 yeah check that seems to be the cutoff from 40 on he was one great coming into today I think he's reading that stat as well and once it gets beyond 40 left that was a cool kid stuff lewis into his head that he cannot make that jim lamb pride happy to get points on the board first this is part of the 72 5 here coach Jamie yellow surprised he went for the field goal there we've struggled on the office this year when you get inside that 15 you better come out with something on the board and I believe that was pretty long for from one or two and you go against the defense it's going to come after you and you we could end up leaving it there coming off the field with nothing drive over all leading up a lot of time for the dogs following the interception by David Kilpatrick 426 going almost half the distance in the field and the 26 yard for Travis Hansen good Drive like that to reward the offense with some points on the board make him feel like all that hard work is going to pay off with something and you give the other team a great lift too if you've gotten a break he took it down there and came up empty defensive coverage or kickoff coverage team for the Huskies really appealing to the crowd to get some noise going Jason Crabb will kick off I don't think it works I think you're wired think of a run down and knock somebody down that's in the stadium do a whole lot of good you got a knock them down to pretty exciting kick returners for watching you stayed in in one corner [Applause] there was toreano we made the sliding catch at the 21 yard line kicking it up a little bit be running full speed with a ball coming full speed the other way and trying to time up the first two bodies in motion that's a free ball if you don't touch it that's just a thing and if you let it go to your wrist lemony may be going out of bounds or being really ugly if it scoots along the sidelines so a good play by hunter a good field position on the park for the Huskies anyway first and ten on the 21 yard line few receivers to the left to keep it on the ground the nose on that one the defensive staff hit a call yeah that was one where I saw Kuryakin lined up behind base in there and I knew something was wrong and he's going outside and thanks coming inside no cleanup seeing something here we haven't seen the last four games with Cougars have been in the Civic situationally 13 snaps and I see they've mixed in it tried to change something up to provide a little blocking I think forward to grandeur and also run maybe something different go back to the one back everybody's out this time second in long none back that Poynter the intended receiver as muscle Hairston was defending I think another thing - you split people out in the Huskies again have had five defensive backs in the ball game you bring people back into the backfield you got Scottie Greenlaw playing linebacker to see the quick look here to Darren pointer thrown behind you you see what they did with that DeMarco farther their concern now about that quarterback draw he didn't rush he just stayed in what they call a spy technique so I guess we're gonna have to do their dad on and 13 again everybody going to Carolyn who makes the catch short of the first down over to the 29 the spring stood defending along with Lois Joe without hips to that side we got on one with Andy Mason Hicks there's out two yards deeper we're using Carolyn a little more last few games I understand well I'm using a lot more he's a real good receiver and unfortunately he just wasn't able to keep his momentum so he could gather his feet and get that extra yard the ball would let him outside a little but not a bad throw in catch there 11 seconds remaining here in the first quarter Johnston de pod [Applause] you know bride waiting gets it for the wall to fall now is go [Music] [Applause] Frank Russell a linebacker makes the play and the first quarter is in the books with a 93 Apple Cup and will return through the second after this you [Music] leading it by a 26-yard field goal in quarter I got oil on fleek Casper coach Don James and Chuck Nelson we needed an extra large boot Chuck is actually one booth down but he can hear us Daymond iord came into the ball game in the first quarter at quarterback after Eric Johnson went 0 for 4 passing was really struggling and the staff chose to bring in Damon Chad Eaton had a part of kind of look at the Husky coaching staffs game plan he said I hope Eric Georgeson doesn't play well I want to see David Huard he called it didn't it during the week he wanted some of it first it's in now from the 15-yard line after you know [Applause] great receipt by the Washington State saza actually makes the tack on now a flag goes down nice job make the play and I come in from the right side of your screen right here and bring off the black and get a chunk of plastic there this must be a better officiating crew this this piece all did last week they couldn't see that last week saw it late took their time looks like the Huskies really like that too tight end into the boundary ID and running behind it using Conwell and Bruner yeah that's the plan that looks like that's one of the key key changes for the week it's going to be interesting to see what they have of it [Music] repeat earthbound verse 15 minutes here are the numbers - cougar turnovers have been plenty we've talked about this game and God about his plan and that penalties number I think will probably be pretty close I think the Mike on this hit referee was still on morning everybody first in five they're gonna throw it outside they get it - Ernie Khan well the tight end who was one of the fastest tight ends on the west coast I might add gets it for the first down at the 31 yard line Torii Hunter on the start that's the point I was going to make you talk about this too tight in offense and one on the way you don't necessarily give up anything in the passing game in there Brunner and Conwell two very good receivers - possibly 2:35 as fast as any wide receivers at the Washington Huskies app you see the play-action in time well just drifts out into the flat well it froze mcclanahan that time didn't it first in ten [Applause] is cougar football in husky territory Washington's first turnover today [Applause] big big break chanty ting in there along with McClanahan didn't actually see who made the recovery not a contact type of smog lots will happen sometimes when you've got your number 2 quarterback on your number one tailback some miscommunication there scramble turnovers always hurt the hole in here they can be devastating cousin it look like Huard handed that ball off in the chest we'll have first at 10 will Haskell in the back way running backs along with him in the first quarter the grandeur going to the end zone Poynter wanted one as Russell Hairston Aaron and Russell Harrison's can say he knew it was overthrown he was just trying to give Darren pointer a little help to get to it pushes it misses in the back and gets away with it good protection I like the play called a post corner you can see it gets a little mixed up but incidental contact but a good play call you got man-to-man take a shot the ends on the first play I'll corner out on the inside receiver on the goal line it is still one of the best plays you take much with pointer playing with an E string second down and ten three receivers to the light covered here comes the rice the call incomplete [Applause] by spring stone and Lavar lads defending times in the past year so we would put on an automatic quits when the team would empty and get a team out of emptying the backfield in the maria's we're going to look at six Russia the step on the bar line starting up three receivers right here comes the heat again they set up the inside slant [Applause] down to the 13 yard line nice normal way Williams up here in the booth seeing the adjustment like you talked to Don of almost an automatic when they see Novak screen much like USC did to grace last week just get in the ball game close and let him run inside pick inside move and a pick and it's right in front of the quarterback so it's an easy throw for just how many times we wanna get to quarterback hit from behind that was a good call Kilpatrick and DeMarco far on the tackle that's why pointer has such a great for catched yard each average of the Burkett first attempt surpassed that time on a lot legwork time out there by the Cougars join the Beavers and take one as well we'll be back with 1539 to go first half Cougars threatening the trail by three you you freida nothing but for the Cougars its first and ten from the Husky 13 fact in volleyball comes here away Monday evening as the Washington State Cougars host the Arizona State Sun Devils join Rich waltz and Alex Webster for all the spikes sets and volleys beginning at 4 o'clock on prime sports Northwest well got lots of spikes and volleys here today want to say a special thanks to everybody watching it cougar and husky alumni clubs and parties throughout the state the city and the nation for that matter I know folks back in Atlanta Denver Dallas getting together for this broadcast great to have you with us first and ten on the Husky thirteen two receivers to the right they give it to Hicks and the Huskies are waiting they hit a call they did the same thing two Cougars did a while ago both linebackers filling those gaps inside double bits inside Aliaga number 15 leading the charge the redshirt freshman spring stead and all Iago both come inside fill the center guard gaps and the cooler backfield as well if I'm Ted Williams up in the booth now when I come at is play-action after I seen with what all the things they're going to do up the middle I run play action out of the one back set he's not going to do it because he's good four wide receivers empty covered guys on second and 11 quarterback draw tripped off right at the one see that was his answer a double outside blitz against Novak and run the dragon quarterback car almost got away with almost almost snuck through spring stead is the one who got it by the Shuler you see DeMarco takes that outside rush and in two more spring Princeton doesn't get him by the ankle he's the runnin duck Lake Washington he springs to down number four in the pac-10 in total tackles he's been a busy guy the last few weeks third down and a lot two receivers right Reynolds to the right pointer to the left side top of you scream husky balls today this is that been real pip Purdy down no it's not enough is like a first game of the year rather than the last well chant just didn't get the snap as he was pulling out of there he just backed out and sometimes you get the noise down there you call them you call the snap and back away and the ball doesn't come up quick enough and it was just messy and that's a big turnover as big as Napoleon and Damon huge mishandled presenters made landslides too and he's worried about linebackers coming in and it's easy to do well the problem for the Cougars here in the red zone and you're coming out with no points Eric Gorton back in at quarterback first of ten Coughlin's good first of a play of nine and a half maybe even ten yards Bachmann is now past Hugh McElhaney in career rushing he's now up into the 2500 area great lead block by Matt Jones out here on the perimeter look at that gets a lick on child's and jave danowsky down Torii Hunter 20 Coughlin needs 162 yards as we start the day great great rushing record he's had some big place here today this one for our husky first down that was away from the wing that time yeah this place they've come back to the shore side I was gonna say that was it that was a changeup after running all the time their tendency going to the two tight ends that time they went away from it Cougars with 77 yards rushing here in the first half against the very very and Cougar defense is the rush averaging about that per game the control the holding team's 265 yards of carry and so far I think from the defensive standpoint they're doing what they need to do is is trying to force the Huskies into the passing game where they haven't had much success loaded Huskies already with 78 yards rushing when you hold people that well against a run that means they're strong and you're getting a lot of negative sacks exactly but that's still pretty impressive for four yards not bad for the skis today either second down and nine ball is now on the 26 yard line looking option all the way your chin tucks it under it's a lateral first down Greg burns around [Applause] that's the first option plane we've seen by the Huskies today and it's good to see Eric get back in and get some confidence on whether he'll complete a pass now for this border town 13 yard games see a nice job by Chad even forcing Eric to go he'll deeper than he likes to but the hole is still there when eric gets there six five two and a quarter has four or five speed he doesn't mind taking Rick's receptions as a wide receiver last year and one this year good for 18 yards rather than 13 this time on first and ten two receivers have brought to the left side two nos key and I believe it's garlic we know wide to the ride looking Dino all the way isolated against Mowgli intercepted by singer as they tried to get me to opened the right side line against the strong safety that was a great play by signor moglie Vito had about a half a step but Mowgli got his back into him and forced him wide so if he no coat can come back and get the ball well and also be knows not an experienced receiver and this is the first thing we want to do if I don't catch it I can't let you catch it he knows just didn't get in there and make the play on the you he had to become a defender there two turnovers for the Huskies on offense today good look at singer and again he's from Tacoma and he's playing in front of his hometown fans that's what he'll be able to talk about for a while nice play first in tan from the 17 yard line little delay DeMarco far is waiting for Haskell Pascal's one that was met by Ali ah he's having a tough day today running into young freshmen out of New York and DeMarco is a low for any offensive lineman to block quick on his feet for a guy of his size you can see right here he just absolutely dusts play race I believe [Applause] but [Applause] so second and 13 [Applause] trying to go to Reynolds Keith Reynolds [Applause] and Russell Hairston defending first the first thing you're thinking when your defender is okay we're showing the world everybody's up so expect the deep or the lob get out of that backpedal in a hurry for the lake the gren near the JC transfer of the California here then longest pass this year by the line 52 yards here's another situation where your day [Music] you want to keep it relatively quick and conservative for sure Danny goes an incomplete pass nice job by de Greiner to get rid of it Fontaine put the heat on dick Grenier is going to get hit from the know back then you just got are you they're gonna brain they've got an automatic bits on you can see it nope that Novak may give him a bad back and a bit front in that case he does unload it probably fortunate that there's no husky defenders in the area of course every husky defender available is in his back pocket you've got one for all you've got one chance and if you can't find a receiver you got to tuck it up and just hold on the ball and take the sack Johnston from his own end zone Beno with a chance to get some good field position bad putt however short now a hostile husky box 31 yard line so great field position for the Huskies an 18-yard [Applause] connect like that alright Steve wanted some of that power when he cooked the 60 plus yarder into the wind last year in Pullman a lot of great quarterbacks have played in this game here are the quarterbacks from the past winning games every one of them in the NFL with the exception of Tim Rosenthal course would retire he'd still be there if we wanted to first and ten for the Huskies Hoffman trying to get outside at this time nice job by rushing to come up and meet him with the line landed awkwardly when he got off of the sidelines he kind of got jammed they hit that track to bat got kind of popped and twisted so it's second down and seven as Coughlin went to the left side and some of our other husky broadcasts about how many people they've started on defense one of the reasons for the Cougars success on defense ten of the 11 starters have started nine or ten of their 10 games this year good consistency on that defense second down and seven for the Huskies it's tonight sighs stop rocking Janoskians what's down [Applause] Washington State back feel down at the check to get some sort of push in the back or clever Napoleon is flirting with another 15-yard celebration call Jim the vows our official says outside personalization [Applause] that's raw speed there that's just running away from people and senior Mobley almost got him point of attack very well blocked and then it's just shiftiness and the strength to get away from an arm tackle in there the speed comes in C Mobley's got a hold of the back hunter can't get off the block and Napoleon Kaufman touchdown number 13 on on the ground for him this year the john rushing injury could have impacted that play is back up top jensen came in at mr. Cockrell 101 authority way deep and I can't you can't blame that one on nice to have wrapped up but near the 10-yard line 50 tackles versus 15 that's where I gave up Travis Hansen back to kick the extra point 25 or 26 this year and looks like saucer again [Music] extra 15 yards on the kickoff because of the personal foul penalty on the touchdown run they might get 20 seeing an onside kick looking so deep in cougar territory sauce was trying to blame somebody else he's a junior out of Long Beach big big man since for 278 Larry says David right yep offside defense half the difference their goal just decline that one he didn't turn his bike off he's out a tough time with her and refused its Travis doesn't want to 26 times already 25 times already is going to use my nine-iron if I'm gonna get any closer [Applause] and it's good penetration though if you don't you don't want that [Applause] [Music] in the backfield that could be there'd be a lot of things Patterson's pointing towards the Huskies let's go back and see something that's worth watching that's a good play in this case by the husband we only get to hand off to Napoleon that was the first delay drive Lucy chances attack run but then you got the pulley then you got got to make the wager that he's gonna didn't get calls for celebration on this one who's in the stands yeah I'm asleep where's he going you gotta sign your full back to go get Napoleon came here to celebrate Joe's colleague made an extra block downfield and hooks window and wide receivers has to help spring Huskies we're supposed to have an advantage on the kickoff because there's a penalty on the touchdown intensity on the second extra point was unsportsmanlike conduct on Washington that'll block it right back they're going to end up right where they started at 35 so much for field position be [Applause] didn't take long quickly the tide can turn Washington State was in the red zone then the photo the Huskies probe will deepen their own and devastating turnovers can be [Applause] got with Washington State rather move the ball up walk it off to the 50 walk it back the tray yeah you can tell it's the applica wall wolf no exercise and he's got family and friends what do you want us to mention Walt Walt some Spokane this [Applause] Lansing it's time to play some football 9:47 second order muskies up tinsica I'll say on behalf of Walt wolf I think he's been one of the most consistent umpires 10:15 with a picnic so they shall go out to the 20-yard line taury number 20 for the junior out of Tacoma yet another one of those great players at a courtesy school the Washington State the offensive site really needs to put together a drive here and Shaun Deeb's is coming in a quarterback to kind of change things up I'm not sure if that was something that was planned that they just wanted to get shot sometime or they felt he he might be a little more effective against this pressure defense first of ten from the toy Lamar Lyons in Kaliyuga host of Huskies up there meeting the ball-carrier Hicks what's a free safety negative tackle here about two yards down to correct myself that was Pascal I believe carrying the ball was three safeties and also a 210 pounds it gives you the luxury of lining them up [Music] 65 to 30 looks at a second down and eight number 21 shame to the cruise as in county Akko was their defendant it was good read done you think I just didn't get in the boat he could have gotten to either side in the flat he had Carolyn up top and look at John deeds his members 39 of 92 only 42 percent two touchdowns he does about 66 yard [Applause] hi Dan by the way after the 43 yard line and a late hit flag goes down though they made paxil Moriarty's onto this long play - Carolyn I wasn't sure if Brett was going to catch it though they cut him about three times that was a big play as you see the Cooper's bring the one back in and blocked this time to take care of some of that pressure and Brooke is just able to get the fingertips on the end knows of that fall and and carrot for it's a big first down then you see the head afterwards everybody is that pretty clearly down it Springs dead just diving on the pile isn't you know intentional I think we just got his feet tripped up in there but again a big play for the Cougars is they're able to get across the 50 yard line now and and again it was really important that they did something on offense in this drive to change the momentum he could feel the husband's on offense getting getting in the groove on the 42 of Washington Haskell and gets maybe three yards inside his Kilpatrick's one of the first their holy spring step Erica are in a tight end I think Brett went up did he a little bit Venga yeah he looked like he was just needed one play to get the breath back more you see in there mores not gotta pass this year Haskell the running back by the way nice young man lining up behind deeds the Paul's gone 82nd a gonna go deep pointer complete-game complain with regi reser Russell Hairston was Reggie defender somebody Reggie Weezer celebrated he made a play and he made a great play and officials were not going to let him have fun out here today it's a little ridiculous I mean I understand the intent of the penalty and this is just taking the fun out of football and I'll get here it's called differently in the pac-10 in any place else in the u.s.a is guaranteed here's the play action and deeds buys enough time to send this ball down and really an excellent play over the top by Reggie Reiser but he's going to tell everybody about it and the officials just aren't putting up with this at all so and that's he's not supposed to dance and he knows it you know that you know they're they're basically they're kids that show off you know who likes it the most their own teammates their peer group but you know all those fans up there don't like it and those officials don't like it and it's against the wall [Applause] first of ten of the ball of Washington State Pascal was sent out they go back to the tight end again for the guys with a little quick slant to the tight end on a couple are you better tell her to tighten on the sausage especially one as good as Kerala that 40 catch is coming in they floated over filling that hot round at least three times today that time I think Walter White has been made the defensive state any airing Dean saw the Empire State throwing it into the ground earlier Brett went outside Caroline went outside on a couple routes [Applause] with two touchdown passes this year and as a second and ten emotion pressure and was trying to go to Haskell I believe Spring stead was on top of Dee's trying to get the flow going with the motion trying to get the Huskies thinking white side of the field and the play just doesn't develop and luckily there's gold Leicester corner out there to pick that ball off that was like a screen yeah screen all the way that was dangerous I was a lineman blocking downfield and the ball landed downfield you know you can block downfield on the screen behind lines carol-anne acremant across the middle simply thrown behind him well deeds is shaking a little bit he got back he set up wearing a square to the endzone is to his friends what wasn't in your normal kind of drop stance and he just was really uncomfortable and lucky that that didn't get picked up because it was really in no-man's land he's like Kirilenko hammered he went to play before deeds is one of six passing today that'll shake your confidence and your teeth Aaron price which prices son coming out the senior out of course woman into the wind 16 of 31 41 yarder and it is good [Applause] 41-yard are good for aaron price and the Cougars are on the board 10 three here in the second corner [Music] just under eight minutes to go here in the second quarter and the 41-yard about Washington states and Aaron price second quarter really is a turning point for Cougars it's the one quarter where Washington State has been outscored 89 to 87 they've given up seven points here in the second quarter and have scored three the three coming off this 56 yard drive and you made a good point Chuck the last 30 yards 56 yard drive the last 30 mm on two husky penalties getting away from a very good kick buyer and price into a pretty pretty stiff breeze I tell you if I'm a kicker he's had 32 attempts game holy smokes it's good to have your dad is the coach can i play can i play here's a situation on the kick off against a pretty stiff freeze and i think you might see one of those little push kicks again they've been a lot look out for PA Emerson there it is and it'll be phenom from the 21 and gets hammered Chris Hayes now let's say yes it was Chris coming down to make their here tr8 we're going up to play the second half on Sunday returns it at quarterback so la skis will start it on their own 28 yard line first and 10 750 to go here in the second quarter the Weathermen say that as the day goes on it is supposed to get wetter and windier the windy partes as they come it's Divino and well-defended rushing back into the game helped from the safety nice job by the defense Dwayne Patterson stretching that out if I'm Mike Zimmer the defensive coordinator I don't care what happens I want to I want to force the orin-san to run the ball because I did not want phenol or Napoleon to get that pitch I'd rather have fewer Anson running for 25 than those guys for 60 but a pretty good job on stretching it out that was a lead option too and there's no hunter up there doing a nice job too second down and nine the only good one it still what's down janeski they're going to say caught it Dave Janowski somehow kept the in front of the opposing team this is just a prayer he's throwing up forcing it in there and watch him keep the toes in quite see but a nice reception down like his namesake scans he used to do to us so I'm just gonna say that's a Paul stands to catch if there ever was one think that ball being thrown to Matt Jones as well done I think you caught him correctly and Janowski to kept the play alive first we saw first completion for bjornsen he's one of six first and 10 Jones trying to keep the linebackers on the planet Hanuman Matt giving it back and forth to each other nock helmets any more than they've done over the years and the middle linebacker they've been flying it up pretty good for G's at least four years you got it we started at six three now they're both six one and the neck doesn't move around like it used to second down at eight four Huskies garlic is wide to the right Janowski to the left [Applause] chant eaten in the backfield to make this stop sad one one boy did that time pet guess he's in there they see Frank here comes Frank Garcia curtsies back number 65 and Cassie walks to the side moving back swarm over the top of him and direct him dance the night way it looked like that was checked to five yards in there at second to that little draw play chant wins one and can say hey I told you so Garcia back at left guard in a hurry third down and ten protection time for the Huskies trying to set it up to be no nice play by Eric screen isn't there he just drills it at Reno's feet and you've got linemen down you just got to get out of the play you got a bad play call you know good to keep the play alive because you can't throw it to anybody anyway field so John Weird Al must come back outs Eric your son chuck'll one reception so far pretty good series there for the Cougar defense again they had the the long past that Janowski made the great play on but shut him down otherwise you can see the speed on the option Dumas number six in the pac-10 Torii Hunter's five the Dumas back on this occasion hop skip and a jump on the snap nice job by were down Dumas from the 15 down he goes good coverage ah skis safe Johnson down there number 34 along with I believe Justin Thomas number 5 Ozzie Ozzie word delegate for the Gold Glove on that one David riders in the dirt in the dirt nice play weird l better not do a backflip celebrate Nero get a flag way this day's gone there a smile or you'll get a flag so Jim Lam rights team leading 10 to 3 5:25 to go second quarter first sixteen for Washington State quarterback still with it go from the [Applause] in his body between that official and the ball to see the discussion referee officially says yes husky ball you look like a pretty good play to start out with and the backs open but we'll Haskell just gets it punched out by Joan Zeus and you can see the referee boy that's close that's a tough call is both hands are around it then he bounces out about Mike been thinking that control Russell certainly in his hands first made contact with it but at what for you call it control is it when he first hits it or when he actually curls around first and ten from the sixteen Eric on the pitch now hold on is a landslide of sorts you might say on top of the quarterback is John brushing was one of the first to get there hear it again here again is the offender go from a pooper-scooper spective you think that this ball is recovered right as the ball hits the out of bounds line you can see it's jumpin' jumpin' and there is on the line of scrimmage are on the there and that's just a tough call to referees right there I would want to make that call that's a really tough we can argue that with both ways second and nine he comes out to the left side becomes the Blitz the manages to hold onto the nice penetration by Washington State the defense of Chris Hayes getting in feel about the controversy of vino versus Kaufman Kaufman obviously being one of the best athletes ever to attend this school why do you bring vino in well first of all this school would not have won a national championship without being O'Brian he is a great football player I felt like vino ran with the boy boat out of time except last week at SC I thought SC that that the point was running a little better they're down in nine more pressure coming McCarthy nice job Torii Hunter [Applause] good job by Torii Hunter on the stop as rushing spelled out on the fake by McCarthy he's got to help himself the coaching static laughs right and slap that bandaid on there but it's a nice job by watching yusei's defense after the turnover deep in their own endzone to at least force the field goal attempt the blitz come in McClanahan hopefully everybody's got man-to-man coverage out here and Torii Hunter is able to latch on to DJ and bring on mr. Hansen for the field goal attempt so you got a salute to the defense there and not let them get in the very good place 34 yard field goal attempt for Travis Hansen fumble my goodness second consecutive tough to handle snap that time cross the Huskies points have gotten the ball been able to do much with it well that that won't go down as a turnover but it is it's a big play for a Washington state side and you just got to slap the high-five to the defense keeping the Huskies off the board after the offense surfed it up to nice job by the hole [Applause] getting slapped is that Cougar defense picks on the carry to the left side a leagoo wraps him up things you take for granted along snap part of a punt and field goal operation until something goes wrong [Music] that'll bring up a second down and 11 after the loss of one just under three minutes actually 240 remaining second quarter peers would love to get some points on the board three wide to the left side looking left all the way as deeds got pointer picked off lawyer Milloy interception [Music] [Applause] and out of Lincoln High School [Applause] turnover and giving it right back one deep in the Husky and one deep in their own end now Laurel and the Huskies looking to put some points on the board before the half just not a good decision at all there's there's three guys back here and there's no pressure on deeds to throw that ball where he did with no one being open plus it was short just just a bad decision to throw it there where there's coverage and like we said he can't force it into this husky defense first and ten bjornsen still with it Klose pulling out to mark Bruner Chuck a tourney Conwell and Torii Hunter was defending along with we're saved journey that it was kind of a kind of a tough win there Chris Hayes was doing the John and Torii Hunter got the elbow what there John about it didn't they didn't make the play it was dirty hands unfortunately they didn't get it done good throw by Eric P Orton we talked about vino being in the game and now Napoleon is back in for second down at ten with two receivers left short of the first down the down of the Cougar dirty I'll call it the 40 41 yard-line eight-yard gain as Ron child's makes the tackle the junior Kennewick and comike in high school very good football team this year third in less than one will call a one-yard come back and play Gonzaga Prep I believe over high school playoffs this afternoon as you see Napoleon 73 so far let's ditch Nene the first day [Applause] good after Napoleon copy that's a perfect example but I didn't think it was a chance at all with two gurus coming at it with John rushing well the play is supposed to go the other way and it's forced outside and there's Torii Hunter and he's pretty sure tackler but those are strong legs they're not long legs but they're strongly Polycarp and ways and can benchpress 385 you can do that game two choices what if I you add up to left eye ok first in 10 with a minute 41 to go here in the second quarter gone on the 36 of Washington State would be have been because the defense was there certainly with great birds well it looked like Eric came up a line of scrimmage and got deemed a little bit as the cookers were up showing pressure and right in the face of the of the two wide receivers and and after he checked to it they backed right out and played zone I was gonna say that was a miss Reed all the way see him checking the two back stepped up and he kept both backs in thought he was in man coverage and then there's a lot of bodies back there in his own and that was probably lucky to be thrown where it was Erick looking at second down in ten ball still on the 36 into the backfield with Jones in front of them with pressure from the outside Chris Mays crashing down from the outside linebacker position it's their polian before he can even get to the line of scrimmage still didn't take him down though boy down looked like he had him bulldog and Napoleon kind of backed out of there and threatened to go for more so you got to finish the job there Chris this is the Cougar defense versus the rush that cougar fans are used to seeing only averaging giving up 65 yards a game the Huskies have doubled that in the first half that been tough sweating his laugh third down [Applause] has the first down well the first half this young man has have I gotta fly John rushing on the tackle we'll watch a good state looked like the lane hit out of bounds on Napoleon Coughlin two consecutive third down plays that Coughlin picks up one more than he needs Huskies is a big penalty here with 50 seconds to go on the ball around the 25-yard line this half the distance penalty makes that 50 seconds Mike price better won a couple of minutes and you can see Mike price better watch it he's going to get one on him 12 carries for 90 yards in the first half he's just got that brilliant ability to bounce it outside at full speed and again the missed tackle and here's the late hit and that's a tough call because you got a wet surface and then Anthony actually laid off at his best he could but there are having a happy flag all over the place I think they're real all the turpin going on is getting out of hand to do with the Canton they can that case they could have kept a flag in their pockets they on several occasions they could have done that today first of ten now for Washington after that great Matt Jones one of his better ones today as he gets it inside the 10 down to the 8 yard line where on child stops it the clock continues he says as Eric York's and cost after 43 seconds to go again that penalty against Washington State giving the Huskies only 12 yards to the end zone makes that 50 seconds on the clock now 43 it's a deadly if you're wondering where coach James Wan Jia's gone down to the field where between you and me he doesn't know it but he's going to be honored at halftime they've asked him to go down thinking he's going to be part of a ceremony to receive a donation for the harvest program when in reality I believe he is going to be honored by the team in the band and everybody else here since this is the last home game of the year during Tuesday afternoon for a key fact in football matchup of course the UCLA Bruins and the Trojans with a winner going to the Rose Bowl this game features the two best receivers in college football in the heart give it their southern cows Johnny Morton and UCLA's JJ Stokes oh catch all the action beginning at four o'clock on prime sports north we're 45 seconds remaining for the Huskies a levan the running back coach and course Jim Lambright Rick Mallory on the right who has filled in for a Files corrigan after the heart attack it's been a tough tough season for this team of the coaching staff filling holes Jim Lambright the head coach defensive coordinator linebacker coach all in one season you're allowed nine the Huskies are really coaching with seven well those seven coaches may be thinking option down here near the near the cougar end of the field pretty safe play with bjornsen and it's a good way to get away from the outside pressure second down and seven Huskies can get a first down often still on this tree [Applause] and cotton was able to get around the left side [Applause] the Bee Gees stand alive I'm just wondering if it's going to be an NFL contract he signs next instead of coming back [Applause] more importantly as I know what he has said that he plans to be here but he is by no means made at a full commitment to be here next year just wondering for seeing the swan song or not answered [Music] [Applause] it's Coffman except the TV let's look at it again because Bryan Ford had a jam going against Andrew Peterson we've seen Napoleon Coughlin on some big third down plays the point of attack is stopped up and picks up first down this time again Clete bounces it outside and half the speed to get there before anybody else does for Washington State just a great effort to one-man-band right there a great individual effort there to get in the end zone had nothing to do with the blocking had nothing to do with anybody else on that field except for his ability to get smacked in the face bounce it outside and use great speed to get the end zone that's great stuff for for Napoleon and for stuff for Bryan Ford cos Wayne 295 you think they'll smother that guy unfortunately he's a he's a tough rasp I guess what I say to Brian Portis you needed your help he was there jamming it up and needed help from his linebackers burning eight seconds to go and the wind blowing pretty hard in the Cougars face [Applause] Cougars will get the kickoff to open the second half they won the coin toss and deferred if you're looking that far down the line Brad will again kick off leading 17 to 3 [Applause] cutter from the tent locker room [Applause] what the wrong way qui I think he was worried about stopping the clock there but looked like he had a scene but he's it's a from up yeah I guess it is the drive itself for the Washington Huskies eating up over a minute and a half than the eight yard run by Napoleon and only eight play 152 yards rushing Napoleon vile excuse me Chuck 75 yards in the first in the second quarter alone [Applause] picks left up by the Marco far we're going into that win with 19 no 18 seconds the tackle makes that decision even easier you don't pick up any yards on first down picks with five carries for 1 yard today here in the first half he's average in 4 yards per carry for the year now Washington state calls timeout with 10 seconds to go instead of calling timeout with 20 seconds to pick up well I think it may have been more on a case of confusion for your quarterback you think Lee well the only thing I could think of his and he's just going over to Sean deed saying look we've got 10 seconds let's go ahead and instead of sit on the ball let's let the pitch one out there that's the only thing I can think of is what the heck this isn't for the Rose Bowl or anything like that let's let's throw something deep and maybe we get lucky worst thing is we go out with a big incomplete pass that's the matter what I'm thinking that Mike Rice might have changes mind on run the clock down far enough so there's only one so if you do throw a bomb and it's intercepted the Huskies have no time to run an offensive playback see that snow up in the mountains LA the Cougar fans I suppose having to battle those elements when they go home today another good reason I hate to get into this for not having a kickoff at 3:30 and that's the last thing I'll say about sitting down into 13 seconds to go in motion [Applause] and gets his longest run of the day short of the first down clock is still going five seconds and that should do it here Ritchie chambers made the tackle first half from the books he's leading seventeen to three as they go into the locker room we'll be back with more after this time you you welcome back here at halftime you see the initials DJ Don James and his wife Carol again being thanked by the fans and the band we'll try to relay to you what the PA announcer is saying and as they go through the chronology of his very successful career here at the University of Washington Don bringing many heroes bow title and of course in 91 the national championship and as we watch that we will talk to you a little bit more about the first half involving these two teams with Washington leading 17 to 3 and turnovers turnovers turnovers and I'm not just talking about the Cougars I think some seven turnovers in the first half but Clete Kasper 5 suffered by the Cougars in that first half well we knew going into this that the offense had to take pretty good care of the ball and they just haven't done that at all here's Shawn deeds who comes into the game in the second quarter and this is just a gift this is throwing it up the lawyer Milloy and and you just can't give the husky offenses that any more chances than they already have had also the snap problem and the Cougars threatening to score and maybe make it a 10/10 ballgame ended up turning it over again so you just can't do it the Huskies are too good a football team to give them that many chances on offense Huskies have taken advantage of some of their chances on offense at least Napoleon Kaufman has right here a very well blocked play that Napoleon makes great use of both strength and speed and once again they were so used to seeing the footrace to the corner and Napoleon with it fake we got to see it twice in the first half that one Napoleon had a lot of help and on the second touchdown for Washington Napoleon Coffman he's on his own Brian Florida for the Cougars stuffs to play at the point of attack but the Huskies offensive linemen keep throwing at least and then Napoleon complan gets into that sprint and just out runs John rushing to the corner 17 3 Washington I think you can directly contribute obviously six of those points in the pulling a coffin he had some nice runs on third down conversions today as well the numbers as we completed the first 30 minutes again the turnovers five to two penalties six on Washington state 7 485 yards on the Huskies well I think two things stand out on that page for me that's the rushing yards for Washington 152 yards and a half against the number two rushing defense in the country and then that 85 yards and penalties for Washington member Washington State got their field goal in a drive that had 30 yards of penalty he saw in the Huskies front and in the 103 yards for Washington State so far and again back down on the field Don James the wife Carol few people Steve Edmond down there to say a special thanks and Don talking with his former great and probably the greatest lineman ever to play here at the University of Washington Steve with a cane after the injury suffered on the second knee here recently in the NFL guys that's hard to see Steve Pepin with that cane but it's awful nice to have him here to be able to say thanks to his coach and of course Steve part of that national championship team in 91 I've had some great successes here Don James 18 years as the head coach is the first chance to officially salute Don James and the Husky players have saluted him with a great effort in the first half Don will be joining the team as that comes out he wants to join in on the salute to the team as well for a final time and we'll be back with the third quarter after this half time just about concluded don play along with leet Casper Don James and Chuck Nelson a 17-3 lead for the Huskies Washington State looking at a few other numbers coffin wood 95 yards rushing in the first half beam O'Brien with a pretty good first half with 35 Delton Johnson with 32 yards over six yards per carry Haskell carried for 80 yards in McGregor for four but the passing guys the big number that I look to from the Cukor standpoint is the guy that your big play man is Darren pointer he's got one catch for 12 yards and and that really spells it out for me you got to get the ball to him even if it's on their reverse something to get it in his hands and in order for the Cougars to be successful the second half that's got to be a focus WSU a collective six of 19 in passing with two interceptions Washington 4 of 14 with one the longest being 19 yards for the Huskies in the toy the Cougars so passing game there isn't one today for either team at this point anyway Kruger's deferred after winning the toss they chose to receive here in the second half Leonard gets it up near the 20-yard line here's what the Cougars did with the ball in the first 30 minutes [Applause] and then later on in this verse they went on to get their field goal going 56 yards but it's been a struggle so far three points on the board for the coops and a trail of 1713 well the one thing about this cougar offense even though they're down 17 3 it is a big play offense that they can jump right back into it in a hurry it's not like you've got the wishbone where you got to go you know 80 yards on the ground that it's and they can pick it up in a in a hurry first intent from the 19 yard line the grandeur starts at quarterback picks in the backfield pressure right away was on top of the grandeur split second after the snap nice job by Michiel eco just comes down right off the bat inside of Josh Dunning see Mike on the right side they're just splits dining in McCloskey thinking that the other guy had a responsibility and Chad to grin here pays the price that's the effect of stunting and people coming and confusing the offensive linemen [Applause] we will eco a Seattle boy now it's second down intended when you're willing to throw pasta middle goes to his tight end Carol very close to the first down and rejoining his coach Don James congratulations that was wonderful a lot of fun got to see a lot of old frozen under I see steve emmalin was down there Topsy a little play-action try to influence linebacker there's big hole there the guy that muskies with reefer catches the ball as opposed to some [Applause] louis jones wait [Applause] the Husky defense comes up big [Applause] establish good condition [Music] everybody remembers a certain third quarter last year the Cougars are the winners of that but you have to bring a tit I'm sorry gone near block boy your Melo I got a piece of it and it goes to rest and out of bounds at the 46 yard line of Washington the law with a piece of it with his left hand look like we've seen big plays right off the bat by the Husky defense on third and one and then a big play by husky special teams good field position and let's see what Washington did in the first half three putts in a row than a field goal the fumble in the exchange then in the interception touchdown for Napoleon cop from the punt the missed field goal and then finally late in the first half coffin gets his second TD see the starting point there the three the last for drive started in cougar territory it's also a lot of Drive for one half ten opportunities coach James I talked to your old friend Jim Walden and he had some retirement advice for you it was do exactly what Carroll doing that for 41 years same old same first at Ted for Washington on their own 47 Hoffman getting up near the 49-yard i missed a pretty good run by napoleon did i not those are those moves that I taught it was amazing coach I was where I was standing right down here on the 35 it looked like everything was tapped out there was no place to go yeah it was from up here it looked the same Brian Ford has done a nice job of standing it up right now present times second down in eighth for Washington to cock-block Matt Jones [Applause] the bottom of the field here the bottom of the formation okay speed option again at the speed against speed DJ pokers on the tackle for the Cougars here Dewayne Patterson is gonna elect to stay with the artisan just for that half second and like I said before I'd let the orin-san run all day and I'd get to Napoleon in five operates the guy this is amazing talk to the party the Huskies Kaufmann gonna leave blocker Matt Jones [Applause] other facemask Mowgli was in there in the tackle yeah gets up that facemask rather forcefully you've seen once again good job up front by those guys up front Matt Jones is in through their territory deep before he gets anybody then Mobley gets a big chunk and that purple he's gonna have to scrape some purple pain out from underneath his fingernails Bruner had an excellent blocked on Dwayne Patterson indignity hook him and get the corner he's shaded outside so he's got a little bit of an edge but Marc Bruner is [Applause] a good receiver [Applause] the name we have not brought up very often this is the raine Paterson they've kept it pretty quiet well in our pregame show we've said that the two tackles don't have two blocks away they better move the ball in you can see 177 rushing yards already Patterson definitely a big play brolic the only wide-receiver they go with two tight ends Matt Jones and he is met by McClenahan right away at the line of scrimmage along with one child they'd like to rub off with tackle it'll double-team the guard and rub off and get mcclanahan and kind of pinch and pick him off and they didn't get a piece of that's the kind of play we're used to see it from McClanahan as the down tackle I've looked like Ford in there did a good job of occupying to people allowing McClanahan to fill into the into the hole there rub off pretty quickly because he gets their very second down and nine looking to [Applause] way too high to go to Matt Jones Eric and Heward back next year that competition will go on all spring yeah he's 2 of 11 today in the struggle coaches magicians the competition start right about somebody ship to the step to the front Eric had by far his best half as a quarterback in the first half against USC Chucky's fortunate just trying to like he does today and I'd still look for Napoleon here that's been the most effective weapon he left doesn't matter where's Kaufman he rightfully they got just as good a chance better a better percentage of getting something honey with the passing game right now they call a plane and run it back towards the middle of the field Ron child's on the stop along with Patterson that time so it'll be fourth down here to put Washington state into a position where they have to score three times something stupid on 3rd in law try to get away with height percentage play 19 let's make it a 29-yard at 28 probably officially in the books we'll wait and see with a collet for the it is Travis Hansen and it's extending the lead [Applause] 28 yard field goal making it 22 3 we'll be right back turn down a couple NFL today the sellout crowd here a lotta crimson and gray along with that purple and gold today of course with 1112 to go in the third quarter field goal by Travis Hansen his second today extends the lead to 20 to 3 and your time remaining is received on Poyer Don James check Nelson Creek Kasper all of us up here in our own little version of the APEC conference ourselves in the press booth always did take two of them to make one a mitra I always wondered if the president in the gang over at Lake Islander a little bored and they've turned that turned the game on they found the satellite dish and turned it the right way got the business done to light up the fire in the fireplace needs some salmon to watch the game call it business I doubt it [Applause] the pressure by chambers number 32 no time wasted my goodness well they thought they're going to get cute and switch the receivers as it's going to say I didn't see hunter down there yeah as Torii Hunter and has been returning all the kicks and they tried to get it to their number one guy but no execution is kind of in the story all afternoon for Washington State have not executed well and they need to put a drive together here to to get a little momentum back on their side because right now the Huskies are threatening to maybe blow this thing Darrin had returned 11 kickoff so it's not like it's something new to him first intent the grunion were rolling out [Applause] do it Cougars reliever ball possession but the speed of d'marco Farr chases down tad to grignr and when the Marco gets close you better tuck it away here's the scoring drive again the 28 yarder by Hansen needing up almost two minutes in twenty seconds look at again switch it up a little bit and they're gonna roll out the grandeur and he's got a real wide field but the work so far comes in from behind and that's just great hustle by tomorrow and make a play there second down seven [Applause] no sir and the fill is pretty good by chambers in company Kali Agha they just started to do it with the grignr with Pattinson he was more of a pocket type of quarterback under the grinder with his athletic ability has been something they've been trying to use just to get him out as a run threat but it's again changing your offense in the middle of the season [Applause] they're gonna as the first down flag goes down as Carolyn goes down and likewise at the 41 yard line lawyer Milloy Steve spring stood out there let's see what the flags about it was in I'm gonna guess it's Reynolds with the hole the very well run play Keith Reynolds number xxx thrown right where Keith Reynolds was blocking the catch had been made defensive holding not really again on defense especially after the reception Carolyn had the ball ten yards downfield deep have ten yards from the other on first down just had a slow slow hand reached in the pocket but a very well-run play you see lawyer Milloy and he sprays dead both trailing Brett Carolyn across the field and the flag is thrown right there Wow how can you have a hold in that area but unless it was something before the camera picture that that we all saw the flag at the same time and he was certainly after Carolyn had made the catch Wow first and 10 49 yard line of Washington Poynter in motion nothing much there as they're trying to go off right tackle with Delta and Johnson Jamal Fontaine 918 remaining here in the third quarter no gain officially on this leg lawyer Milloy he'll be back Marco bar will graduate easy look at that huddle I think on that play they're just trying to set up play-action a little bit here I look for Mike to follow it up it's something that he likes to do after running one play come back to the play-action and try to hit something be fair second down and nine pointer to the nearside looking pointer trying to go to the tight end Carolyn again was defended by spring step it looked like maybe they could have called pass interference there that one was close I've had real close coverage maybe a little too close man a man all around all over the field usually when you get man-to-man you think about going deep but that time the grandeur looks for his money man today red Carolyn back you can use Liam for the flag you can usually tell if the defender is looking up real quick he knows he's been close anyone Carolin six catches 73 yards today there he's got speed but that was random and covers Lamar Lyons did not even say Lauren Harrison brought down by Hairston at the 1516 yard line I think it's got to be Hairston because Lamar Merle iron came up the middle it's Russell Harrison and see him standing back here and goose came in to Brett Caroline he didn't see him so there was probably a confusion there had to be man-to-man third long a big conversion for Washington State another big game for Caroline as he goes over the 100-yard mark for the interception so it's first and ten Cougars looking for that first touched on today a trail 22 three eight and a half minutes to go in the third bought on the 16 the grandeur it's deflected rusty on the throw Scott Greenlaw defending on the nearest receiver he said they're saying I'm trying to get the cross coach I'm trying to get the slant coming over after my insight slot guy clears out that Lane and it looks like there but somebody named d'marco Farr no great athletic ability I'll tell you I like you happy they're coming they're bringing a that Goodwin says and the dogs and a lot of one-on-one coverage better throw quick as we said getting his first taste of the Apple Cup man he has the instincts of a veteran and a timeout is called by the Cougars and Chad to grignr let's take a timeout ourselves 8:20 to go 8:22 go third quarter 22 3 Washington on top dude into prime sports Northwest on Thanksgiving Day Thursday for the newest addition of us key profile join Chuck and me for features on the upcoming men's and women's husky basketball season an acapella singing group you know him the main attraction and husky mascot King redoubt that's Thursday night Thanksgiving 830 on prime sports Northwest Mike price 1 and 3 against the Huskies on his first win the man to his left and our right is Michael Evans seller saw his record broken in receiving this year by Johnny Martin in his first half woke up as a head coach and it is second down and ten Cougars into the red zone everybody gone three right to left my goodness sakes the tripped over his old man was a reed Paul Reed with the sack oh good great for Huskies tough break for the hoods dropped off into zones only had a four-man rush and that probably confused Chad a little bit if he didn't know where to go with the ball actually Paul Reed had done a good job on DeMarco that time and Chad instead of stepping up step back and that's just something that you gotta say that's bad luck can go on the next play but not let it affect you you're still in scoring position down it's also the results of Chad getting hit from time after time after time he's looking to go backwards instead of forwards your first stop right now is not stepping up into the pack where'd 20 lotta rooms got Carolyn Hollin forum always stops close to complete down to the 14 yard line to Delacruz really surprised there's no flags on that short of the first down let's get it established but he's down to the 13 and a half call at 14 yard line looked like to me that half the offensive line had already march downfield but they got away with that a little bit the Huskies are in a twist and then Mikey will Rico went down there was no one in containment out here Chad did a good job here you know he's got make about 20 yards and he's not going to run for 20 yeah fourth and seven they was good did not make the first down balls on the 14 3 receivers including pointer to the right there goes Johnson to the left side here come the Huskies was the intended receiver lawyer Milloy with his hands in the bag where we finally stopped they slapped route by the tight end first time today we'll cover except this time it was the slot right Bella Coola cruises up inside but same route new new face great play by lawyer Milloy that right hand pretty close to the back of de la Cruz and at left hand definitely on the football Mike Christ rolls the dice on fourth and seven well he doesn't need three as he needed a seven Heward back in at quarterback for Washington while still in the 14 first in 10 for the Huskies coming outside lead block Richard Thomas Hospital on my premise [Applause] Gregg burns with a tackle but he brought so many in route that was played as well defensively as you can what else can you do to your players his ability to slide off tacklers is uncanny the great job here of getting there behind Richard Thomas Thomas a good job on child's and Napoleon just keeps his feet movin gets through one two three great burns finally with the rodeo moves but its first down Huskies in better field position he's getting awfully close but not he only 24 more first and Tanel indeed 162 coming in I say only Kaufman the rate he's going when he had 95 in the first half this one up to the 34 yard line where Greg burns again meets him the offensive line for the Huskies now looks to me like they're coming off the ball pretty strong they've been starting to get the feel here of what Washington State's gonna do on defense Neal after so many repetitions you kind of figure out okay they're lining up here I'm going to smack him in the mouth because I know he's got to get this side breastplate or whatever and they're starting to really get the tempo of what the defense is doing [Applause] second down and three only one receiver to the right the knot goes out left in motion Thomas and carries the stack for a couple of yards short of the first down I believe needs to get to the 38 most of Cougars in there to meet him well to follow up on what you said musky offensive line is ventilated in a line and they have a lot of respect for the Cougar defense and they prepared well talking with the coaches this week and that's the best way to get a good performance if I respect the opponents and I'm gonna try to play them in there they've done a good job this is one of their better that's part of preparing it's a good thing they can run the ball look at the passing perfect in the 40-yard but look at this 201 yards now for the Huskies rushing 17 and a half minutes to go in the game for 320 in a half minutes to go in the game as a quarterback the best thing I like was a strong running game and it's always kind of fun to hand the ball off and sit back and watch it all nice play and stuff if you don't fake - well we don't hack with ya get away from it all don't get the uniform dirty Huskies looking at first and ten now on their own 38 yard line block continue to grind along you're the quarterback Hoffman flag goes down was thrown from the backfield by the secondary Washington State John rushing with the tackle that's what wolf the umpire and I'm sure we read through it that's got to be an offensive hole I'll take back all those good things good or bad I heard a nice compliment from Steve Wilson remember the the umpire last week the young man from here we go again all right shut up put your two boos there now he said of all the coaches he dealt with Don James was always the one who by far knew the rules better than anybody okay that's all I was going to say liking him more than I do ball goes back to the 28 yard line of Washington so it'll be first in 20 about 15 penalties now for the Cooter's got to take advantage of this one though they need the ball back and a long way to go for the Huskies they'd like maybe to force the turnover here let's see if Jeff Woodruff is going to throw the ball at all you are at a quarterback yes what a catch by Janowski cougar fan right now let me see this one over yeah [Applause] playing through the Ramsey Jimmy ray d'etat his receivers put your feet in bounds then go get the ball the ref is looking at the feet not the ball great catch I don't know I don't care if it's in bouncers that's a great pet short of the first down however life is not totally perfect second down and five they picked up 15 on first kicks his man out and Napoleon tries to cut inside but his stop by McLennan against the Huskies into second and five and now third and three 146 yards on the day for I got a quarter on the table says he doesn't I'll take it just for fun okay Napoleon's best effort of his career 208 against California last year California nowhere tape-delayed in some places but elsewhere we are live I heard the California was leading the genius at one point third down and two that's a great job of running but your offensive line can create some things too they got into the Cougar defensive team game deploy in an opportunity to find something because it wasn't here at the point of attack it's been a hand with the tackle but you're right it's a combination of the linemen getting enough of the defensive players that they can't get anything more than just a hand and you see Chris Hayes that second attack of Napoleon today combination is pretty good effort by Napoleon and good blocking up front for the first down that's a big first down for the husband and they are into cougar territory again from the 46 yard line of Washington State Coughlin boom good pursuit and great burns coming up to make the stock along with plan ahead your best bet on the counter tray is to follow that back st. tackle or fullback if the full-back is a backside blocker with the guards going to kick out and you've got to get up in the hole just under three minutes to go in the third quarter as this game and Huskies continue to grind it out on the ground they're up to 212 yards but they keep that clock rolling along we saw in the first half - each team had about nine or ten positions apiece this third quarter has just been one or two possessions each way 12 getting a carry and he is sort of the first but down to the 40-yard line John rushing making the tackle the junior out of Merced Washington State has done some you made some great plays on first down and second down but they've given up the advantage that that they gain great play on first down but you got to play three downs and out not one or two very well blocked in the Bell with the pancake Leon Neal Richard Thomas Richards the one that got them he got him twice sideways and then pushed him out of the way from behind makes you wonder what's problem with people right yeah with Leon he caught a lot of playing time against Stanford he had get himself six rushing cousin [Applause] in its best day [Applause] the success that Napoleon Coffman is having it says he's not coming back I got to get next year's tailback ready 20 yard run Leon Niels great job of getting up into the hole and seeing daylight and turn on the Jets Leon's probably thinking oh boy oh but I lose a hamstring right now I've been standing for the last two hours and Napoleon's back in the game lovino may be banged up first and 10 just inside the cougar 20-yard line Napoleon returns with 140 some yards for the over the top over Jim to Val and inside the 15 to the 13 you've heard me say many times that that is a very very large brunch at this end of the field for down territory oh yeah Chris Hayes on the tackle with John rushing at 18 to go in the third quarter Washington State defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is down on the field he's trying to figure out okay do I risk something do I bring a free safety do I do anything to change up what's happened here down close to the end zone here you can maybe free up their free safety or your strong safety with their blitz Janowski the only receiver left the gold or the option Oh Huard stays on his feet a flag goes down there so you know what it probably is but you are doing a pretty good job of carrying the ball and busting to tackle initially tackle by Chris Hayes flag came from deep in the backfill over here on a sideline you see the option play good read by Damon Hewitt does a good job of hanging on to the ball crack back blocked somebody coming back towards the towards the ball from wide you've got to stay up above the waist as much as a four yard run is a big run in this part of the field a major penalty is a big big penalty down in the red zone big big time it's a you know it again the players know the rules and again if you're the defensive coordinator for Washington State you've got more field more field to cover if you do send people oh good if you send people inside honor honor run blitz Napoleon Kaufman is so good at bouncing off of that pylon getting outside and you have no bodies left if you send them all inside got to try something because what's been happening so far on this drive is not good so you know maybe you risk a big play but I'd bring someone up the middle from the secondary second down and 15 make them check they did frolic in Janowski out to the right we're gonna go with the toss sweep Hockman not much there at all and another flag goes down a if you can figure out a way to play this game without those guys at the black and white stairs - it makes me happy and a lot of football coaches and a lot of people would stay warmer so far they've been our best offensive friend this right here we have a score you have to make up 45 yards of penalty have to get clear down to the 10 yard line for a first this could be a 75-yard Drive it contains nine or ten first downs I'll guarantee you when they the evaluations officials the coaches on both sides will evaluate critical calls that have been a lot of in this game and those officials better be right offense ten-yard pilot priority feet second down you're getting yourself out of four down territory out of field goal territory again here though if I'm the Washington state side I'm thinking eight number eight he's your guy has been hurting him let's focus on him because you've probably come out of that deep set with the delay and and I'd still think run here first penalty's by two to one almost for the Huskies as for their average Huard rolling out doesn't have enough room to make the first gets down to the 26 yard line on second making that third down play a little bit shorter Huskies thinking much like the Cougar defense in terms of thinking run they stayed in a two tight end offense even with second and 25 and the Huskies didn't have a go route on that route they had two short routes and I'm sure Damon was wishing that one of those guys would just go deep Jim lamb bride wearing many hats as we've said during the broadcast this season as the defensive coordinator linebacker coach head coach Huskies looking at third down and 17 garlic and Janowski again out there one slip and it gives enough time for Ron child's to close in and that's going to do it with a quarter more than likely nine seconds on the clock is stopped Huskies called timeout to preserve the wind the wind advantage on a 42-yard field goal Hansen probably the first to put his hands in the shape of the T on more than likely just incessant tapping on the Lambo just to make sure a subliminal message it's just when the wind is supposed to change after three where's that the Husky rained in the fourth quarter in November good last week against sa maybe the Huskies have to win the complete second half yes they do Travis Hansen long field goal of the year is 42 this it is back I would suspect the kut'rs will come pretty hard seeing the down and distance and the status of the game well two of the the field goals they've split the middle they've had a guy free if the Huskies don't correct that that can get you in a lot of trouble in a hurry blocked a couple this year Travis in his last Apple Cup Jason Crabb also a senior so that's going to be one position the Huskies will have to fill next year with new people right he's down here as a senior now what god I'm gonna miss watching is that's life Johnson specialty hey Johnson your number one special TV guy in the senior there's a lot of he's got ten tackles this year four of the money system and he's an offensive you know he's a fullback playing on special teams he's got a fumble recovery touchdown the case where Travis has to tell himself this is a 35-yard 42 officially his longest of the year and it's good [Music] Huskies of 23 to and he is now 12 he is now two of nine beyond the 40 yards so he's had a couple of 49-42 yarders filled inside guys this time don't give up any penetration wind it is back and right-to-left started at the right post look at those flags right there bring the ball right back in in the middle Travis with 26 28 and 42-yard field goals to their senior from Spokane who feel better about going home for Christmas I think it just does it lets the Huskies kick off with the winner now although Jason Crabb been hit the last one very good with the way the wind is blowing right now this good at least make the Cougars go 80 yards well let's see if the Cougs dry anything down there we got pointer again down there along with number 23 Hicks both coaches said that they had big play books this week lots of reverses and new trick plays and things and kickoff is a good chance to see some sort of reverse or throwback looks like the felt marker got a little after they printed him up punters not back they're returning in fact since he took that wrong turn at least in your in my mind cleat I think we see him back there returning [Applause] picks from the two [Applause] and gets up to maybe the 13 Darren pointer tried to come up with a block and Lewis Jones planted one on him yeah well you get Lewis Jones at two and a quarter a 50-yard run at Darren pointer he's going to deliver a blow when he gets there and that's gonna do it for the fourth quarter so as they switch ends it gets darker in Husky Stadium the dogs lead at 23 3 you won't be that much longer the bridge will be packed does everybody in here will be trying to go over there as we begin the fourth quarter I'm Don pointer with Pete Casper coach Don James and Chuck Nelson about three booths down as all four of us are here bringing the Apple Cup 93 the Washington State they have first intent from their own 13 yard line and three receivers left for the grignr and he's going to go deep two pointer great catch down he goes at the 40 yard line as it gets past Lamar Lyons and Reggie races what a cat's by pointer great throw great cats but if I'm a husky defender what's the one thing I'm thinking important as I stand in there go ahead let me get behind me bad luck ball right there don't let anybody get behind 247 yards you're thinking it's going to be awful embarrassing if this ends up 24 that's plenty Cougars just electing to air it out hoping that pointer being the app that he is can confer out one and that's another reason that he's got all those 20 first intention the Husky an echo defense tries to lay it out go into 21 Shan dela Cruz Lamar lives defending but too far now this is one of the problems if you're going to love the pressure package and so 11 men up on line of scrimmage obviously they're playing some fixing zip zones and but you still don't have that 8 yard cushion that a lot of defensive backs would like to have a great job by pointer to of going to get it about 10 yards before that ball hit the ground it didn't look like he was going to be able a great job Thrun on the afterburners boy near the senior out of Curtis high school in his last Apple Cup on second down the grandeur gets it down to the 34 yard line Cougars running an option once in a while since we've seen that that ricky turner at the bar lines on the tackle with spring stairs just trying to find something in the running game that's kind of disappeared here for Washington State that well we effective against the pressure defense and one of the things is you get those outside linebackers thinking you know I'm crashing for the pass and all said you change it up a little this is a big playing through down in for from the 34-yard line three receivers to the right side there goes Jay Dumas to the left [Applause] there does the pressure come it does Kilpatrick down to the 16 yard line in the first down and you ask the question why can't I come for that guy going across the middle Jamal Fontaine is down in Beverly and Brett Carolyn with the hitch and his get along as well but again how many times to run that virtually the same formation you're running the same defense and they throw it to the sick guy geralyn's having a huge day today play you see Carolyn with 120 yards and if the tight ends averaging 15 yards to catch here you're eating up some ground you'll be fine last game of the year you're not going to go out with an injury if at all possible Brett carillon may move into the leading receiver spot for the Cougars after this guy's he's got 48 now Marty Drummond in minor had 45 coming in Reynolds had 46 so he's probably leapfrogging him today right in there with the pointer that's a lot of receptions to considering the core position has had so many problems Berenstain 10 all three receivers now go to the left side with a tight end little bootleg action the Grenier tin to the end zone might have been batted by one of the Huskies David Kilpatrick fell off in coverage as de la Cruz comes all the way from the left side and the grin years looking at him all the way good job by Kilpatrick of getting the hand on the ball and of maintaining knowledge and where those guys are coming from David had to be thinking he's throwing it to me look where he is exactly right in line of fire didn't fool anybody didn't exactly look off the defender they're sending that Western Union same formation three receivers left de la Cruz pointer [Applause] all five pain back in the game Keith Reynolds all the way to the outside Fonteyn all the 17 here comes pointer and most Hairston stays with him straight drop back this time I'm trying to set up the screen they do Hicks wanna room down to the 15 slips to the 12 yard line so what looked like was going to be a big gainer it turns out to be about five green la made a nice play to get off his block and although he didn't stop it for loss or anything it did keep him from getting in the end zone filling up in the lane it's got green law on the tackle you guys are going to retire number 12 she's got green eyes there's a clock at work hard too [Applause] we're down at four [Applause] all the way to the tight end and this one are going to call it good great catch Florida first down yardage I don't know how he caught that my goodness David Kilpatrick on him and he comes up with the hand cradling it from the turf well then although it's not a first down in sure makes for town call here a little easier as he just gets the paw underneath it cradles it in that's just another great example of what type of hands this kid [Applause] night formation should have the first stop by spring stone Huskies got some inside penetration but could get any in the off-tackle hole again you saw a look of one of the few times you'll see the Cougars and two backs that's their heavy jumbo where they've got Donnie Sasa and Rey Hall in there where they're they're just bringing in the biggest people they can and that's a first down so that's the one time down in the red zone that they've been able to convert so it'll be first and goal [Applause] just beyond the six yard line Kruger's yet to score a touchdown today at 23 to 3 Moe's defense played pretty well he's been scoring defense all three receivers to the right across the middle might have been looking for pointer who slipped or was tripped may have been a case where you're trying to pick somebody off and you end up with your own guy going down good very well good there were some crossing routes there with all that man coverage you can get rubbed off there comes a Christ or blitz both linebackers coming big crowd second and goal from the seven Hairston did a good job of getting inside position early just gotten away really all around [Music] squit up you can eye level by the hours four years all those moves as the receivers have to try to get inside let's see if the Cougar offensive coordinators see that inside positioning and maybe think close cornerback to the corner should the Jason so just about everybody the Cougars score they're gonna least two more scores second a goal from the seven pointer didn't out Rhys are defending now Reggie why don't you do a dance and get a 15 year coach you're being a little too critical they're good play by the young man all Reggie's a good player he's laid it great and actually throw in the lob with this wind as is tough because you just can't judge it you're just throwing a prayer and that ball was yards out of bounds the wind is really starting to blow you're starting to see Taos flapping his newspapers we're feeling it up here for the first time too who spread it out again and sure do motion third and goal from the seven we'll do this so it will be fourth down now all we need is an altercation girl flag and move it after this there tan is John a little bit Baili they break up and then DeMarco far comes in to help out his buddy and then the flag is thrown so the flag does go down not a smart play by DeMarco far coming in late throwing his shoulder Michael Bailey well coach since you know the rules or since you know the rules is that a first down or is it just half the distance first a total break right there see right there Michael Bailey engine tied up a little bit [Applause] the peleas later the belly has not yet been called the Marco far came in and through a shoulder or Michael Bailey and holy smokes that's huge the referees then they are not about to even show the slightest amount of losing control of this game well there are ways to control a game without throwing flags they need to go in right there basically and say hey fellas knock it off we saw the timeout call there on the screen but to have that big an effect on the potential outcome of a game is is not good officiating it'd be nice if the players could play the game they've been unable to show much of emotion or anything else today either team and we'll be back with the final 1101 to play you Washington State as they've called this time out it looks like they've changed their mind about four or five different times putting in different people and right now they've got what they call their their regular offense you'd expect that they might want to do the heavy jumble but they've got Carolyn and the wide receivers in there along with Kevin Hicks at the running back spot see if they try to continue to throw the ball in the end zone previous plays I can remember 1975-76 John Hopkins tried to throw a little thing into the the Huskies intercept in Iran for a touchdown here the results no not nearly as catastrophic as de Grenier kept to the left side but short game sad didn't look like he really was sold on that we call timeout and that's the best we could come up with oh well this is one thing when when you had to play against Jim Walden when he was over there he had all those formations and you always had to defend against the option and the hit drove defensive coordinators crazy out to play you look at this to get a game plan it's it's difficult to always have to defend the option you know we used to have 44 formations and three plays second and goal pretty balanced for the receivers flip wide not gonna make it his Hicks nice calvo really blocked well at the point of attack and he may sit in there along with spring stead 49 and here comes the heavy jumbo right here on the co-operative goal at the one yard line Sasa a hall defensive lineman big bodies that can get off the ball quickly and get some momentum going all you gonna do is you only have two three are you gonna do is not go back about three feet [Applause] jabo receivable they're gonna run Hix no sign by the rest on the side it is not a touchdown good second effort by ants plays from the seven yard line right here the street died left screech dead comes over the top and the patches in the outside [Applause] excuse worth down same way as no call the fishes Kennedy would see where the ball is where the middle of that pile who don't think so all of it in there yet officials have spotted the ball apparently with eight plays on first come first and goal [Applause] great goal I'm staying by the musky defense d'marco Farr is probably real happy that a stop that with to Kilpatrick comes over the top DiMarco far with creates the pile from the bottom and you see virtually eleven purple shirts in that pile Fontaine over the top as well Kilpatrick was the one that came over the top and really got underneath the feet he did the dive and got to the look at this but we'll never know whether it was a touch that's right what happened that's emotion on the Husky offense here the distance to the goal boy that's a big penalty they move that thing back in eyelash cuz that ball is on the goal wise will take the chance again to good good start good there's not going to cost you any artist well the call here is quarterback sneak and pick this the only play that you can be assured you won't get a safety and I guess from the cougar standpoint you're hoping for the safety and get the ball back I know I'd roll out well a little bit later you might even consider safety just get out of here first and ten for what it's worth nice job nice slice to the left by your that's when you're real happy to have a quarterback who's 220 pounds make sure you get the snap back okay extra whistle for the referee here no flag though - yeah but all those running plays are these running plays are just making it more difficult for the Cougars to get time enough to get all the scores they need to win I'd almost consider start calling timeouts here so that at least you can get the ball back he's good looking good look at the Center for the Huskies he's a rockin gent won an $18,000 scholarship from the National Hall of Fame foundation that's the point we needed to get across he's really got quite an award second and nine Matt Jones gets a little more room yeah I consider calling timeout here that you might get the ball back and reserve a little time that's now under 8 minutes as it is this is going to tick down and the Huskies will take their time they see the Huskies on the punt consider taking swimming there is going to be a punt consider taking the safety 23 to 5 after a two-point safety would be the margin 18 points is still three scores with six and a half minutes to go by that time now seven and a half minute the big thing you don't want to give up as a seven that's that's why safety is not a real bad thought third down and eight oh my hitch befo Hoffman wouldn't maybe one yard are you still breathing coach we've talked all year about some of the things that might be a little different in the gym Lambright era that call would have come down at I said Jeff let's get another call again finally starting to come back to the face of Dodge Brothers CA a play-action pass insane after today that's it was no looking for my roll out that never did happen that was kind of a roll it was a rollout of the offensive coordinators proud of this I'm the punter and all of a sudden I've seen that play they get great open the window and help them get good field position here anyway spiral fare kids called and a good kids at the 29-yard line Weird Al just got it up too high although you want Hank time not into the wind when you're in your own end zone the situation too or if you give up two points you might gain 40 yards a minute or two o'clock time gotta kick it low Matt Jones was still talking to his offensive lineman when that ball was snapped I think that's Jensen coming pretty close to get the handle one five seven poppers at night I think they wanted two or three she's actually turned around looking at the ball was snapped he was watching the 25 second talkback behind you first down the granule getting a little time Huskies trying to close in nice job of getting away and finally Jamal Fontaine brings the roof down under grunya but not until it gets its floating complete we run to sprint out they run away for three husky rushing so there's no one over regi research does a nice job of not sucking up on the out bait there's the pump and he's just sitting back waiting for the for the out and up and nothing there [Applause] he's had pretty good to sign material for USC and Poynter done a great job you actually shut out in the last week guys did a good job with the Morton second down in 10 with all trips to the left side my goodness now that you can put the running back over there Hicks quads left look out Kanako far is one of them and I think Andy Mason the other couple of seniors trying to go out big he's got green always faking his safety crash at the bottom and that's why the tailback up hook with the wall connection tomorrow fire stuck up the outside then comes underneath ball red ball arrays got to go get the hammer up the shoes right there are stands that the official comes over and gives d'marco Farr talking to for signaling after the sack the only thing is gonna stop - Marcos is a snowstorm like last year three down and 16 which time they walk comes on the gap Keith Reynolds the intended receiver who is overthrown and covered by Reggie research Keith West has been quiet today I don't baby as a reception to leave Carolyn in for protection but they can't because he's the number one receiver coach that time I want to bring it up I just noticed on the replay when Carolyn came across in Kaliyuga was all over him like white on rice he was with him the second he came across crossed his face he knew where to go for that coots going for it why not with five and a half minutes to go they are fourth and 16 they need to get down to the 19 yard line balls on the 35 it's away steps up Jamal Fontaine now one whistles have given it was no play the flag was thrown [Applause] so no play whatsoever against the offense for movement false start that came from the field judge wait I'm complete winning yard line on the sideline did you think here we might see some shotgun today I was thinking that you know you got a quarterback that hears the way the game I was thinking with the young quarterback who might not be real comfortable underneath the center that to give him a little better vision but coach Christ said that it takes just as long to find that snap [Applause] finding receivers than now it is fourth in 21 as X goes to the right the Marco fire rounds him up the senior as the engine [Applause] Washington steak having a tough time here in the fourth quarter with the and his sac number five for the Huskies today study your screen right there he just northern states of the Marcos my idea I got a question why the McCloskey isn't helping out over there and they're double-teaming Highfield instead of d'marco Farr Josh Dunning was sitting there with nobody to block I'd rather have Josh working on knife field and those two guys on DeMarco but and that little little line slide that the coaches may have had in maybe the center just didn't get it off bursted ten now for the Huskies on the 46 Hoffman with me before a couple let's get an account for Kaufman so far [Music] see how close he is to that record Greg Lewis you're pretty concerned about that quarterback say he's done it Louis right now I put some two for the ball game what if he goes backwards that's right that's right we saw that at Oregon State well that's a lofty record dude break young man Greg Lewis was about a bot one of the finest guys I ever saw put on us two uniform so he could kick holes I love to watch that man carry the football second down and nine this man's no slouch either Boise as he is brought down Chad Eden along with John rushing Napoleon comping for the first down rushing gown come back to play very well this is it splatter ball on Cougars are a player went over and pushed the husky doctor out of the way the doctor and they were trying to help for 200 yards over the Cougars Standridge Steve Steve Martin and the offensive line has got to feel great after that if you want to win big games you still have the other one a football and it's obvious we're not a good enough passing team that we can win a lot of games with the pass this is you know these were the expectations just about all year is this just John rushing again arrived marks maja the head trainer helping him off the man on the far side it's one of the best trainers around the country too [Music] Miami is trailing as well today boy what a day in college football here again is the play and watch Matt Jones 2:22 pullian picks his spots ends up out there behind his pull back Matt Jones throws a block downfield here's to you rushing delivers a blow with the left shoulder matches planted the gun well I'm really going to miss the Polian after discussion into what drew blood shows future video that wasn't too tough because of the prospects he had as a quarterback one of the things I think vino our Napoleon has got [Music] running backs in college this year and when it's going to be my position it's a tough call for young man first and ten for Washington Lake Johnson now at fullback along with Leon Neal Damon iord is the as our buddy Leif carries for about eight yards on first exam seniors a chance to play a little bit here and carry the ball and do some fun things is they got about four minutes to go and their college football careers I would never let our guys talk about substitution during the week but once the game and your opinion is over by scoring time now you can talk all you want this blitz will start rewarding players with some young guys some old guys get the baby a walk-on it's getting there four or five years had to play 27 carries average 6.7 second down and three after the run by late [Music] playful three to life again let's see we can get the purse nope late Johnson as he's hauled down it's like flying forward one of the first there yes number 69 the senior on a sacramental girl in the high school football players his late finishes on his career announcements now being made about lathe or excuse me before setting a new single-season rushing record injury on the field one of the offense but you pick that up Burnie Conwell sophomore tight in there looking down around the knees let's take a timeout 3:05 to go and they'll take care of Ernie Conwell [Applause] look into a chant of one more year one more year huskies now or about two minutes and 58 seconds away from being done with the first half halfway through their sentence if I'm a player I'm feeling pretty good though here in the crowd say that one more year wait an overweight I was going to ask you plate how about the Cougars track in baseball balmy awesome third and three Leon neo gets the first year I noticed how you left basketball it might be kissing but now especially now this close to being out of being out of the season and into your offseason well you got Jessie coming back he got Garcia coming back in Peterson after that we got a whole lot of senior starter you will hear the gentle Bob sapper recently converted offensive lineman has moved a third this man will be a very important factor in that offensive chemistry next year you see then what a schedule too I mean you open up at USC Ohio State comes to town go to Miami then UCLA a little bit more optimism heading into for the toughest games consecutively that this husky program has ever faced you think I didn't pull a calf muscle those things you're out for a year that's major surgery family of ten could live on one of those that's a big ham hock there lots of seniors there in the ball game the new faces today Redman cam Kissel well in the Cukor side looking forward to next year you've got a defense that does lose McClanahan and call Brian Ford but come forward to a lot of guys coming back and playing better than they did the day Leon Neal first of ten and he stacked up pretty well at the line of scrimmage clock continues to find on down Ron child's one of the first in their league on play quite a bit remember back in the first game of the year against Stanford because be no had to sit out that one game Ned Stark is now coming in at quarterback as Damon Huard and what a confidence builder for Damon to spend a winner now one egg in this game today that's going to help him prepare for his junior year and Ted now the redshirt freshman out of Medford he at ah sweet DeLeon kneel again and little if any game we run child's again involved in the tackle David Reiner in the rec center as well the senior long snapping now getting a chance to snap it a little bit shorter Don where do you see Ted start fitting of the mix maybe next year a year older is he's still going to always be regarded as a three deep kind of quarterback or this spring the computation with Ted will be the two freshmen that recruited this year for me and Smith right and then you know it's going to be a continual controversy with the quarterbacks because it was too bad but they both have to get better they will I'm just that's why I was wondering if stark had a great spring you never know it could be someone in there too we're down in six Lake Johnson so it'll be fourth down with less than a minute we're down to 44 seconds left Vince Saldivar the tackle on a one-yard game so it looks like for the last 11 and 12 that will be now 7 to 5 Huskies vehicle team have not yet bought of the ball you see Jim Lam right congratulations to Jim becoming now the first rookie head coach to win seven in a season at something Don James winning six in his first game Hansen attempting the field goal 34 yards and it is good big day for Travis Hanson game is over on that field goal 26 to 3 three field goals in a game for Travis Hansen haven't done that in a couple of years at four field goal for scuse me 34 yarder and that makes it 26 to 3 as Mike price now 1 in 4 against the Washington Huskies and Steve spring stood shaking hands with the coats and Tim Lambright is now one and O against his fellow still homeless County fellow Everett City Patriot what shall I say fellow native of ever and thank you that's what I'm trying to say graduates of Everett high school coaching the two universities in the state well the next season is on now the recruit up season and that'll really be important for both of these teams a lot of good football players leaving both programs with the schedules that we both teams play they'll be exciting off seasons congratulations again to Travis Hanson nice day to end his career as a husky with four field goals of 26 28 42 34 and again Congrats to Napoleon Kaufman a huge monster day 181 yards setting a new single-season record final comments he in just a moment
