welcome back to the wizard shop in the previous video i promised you guys a video on another really cool car and that's what we're going to show today this beautiful blue [Music] ferrari so welcome back you guys have probably seen this car in the past it's actually several several several videos in the past like like last year this is a great customer mine he brings his ferrari here for service this is a 99 ferrari 360 modena which is basically a hard top it doesn't have a convertible spider or anything like that it's in very good shape it has some small minor flaws here and there you can see some hazing on the headlights and a few little things here there but we're he's working towards getting all those things sorted out the last time it was here we took care of some oil hoses and took care of some bushings and some tie rod ends and he said he wanted to drive it around for a while and enjoy the car and then when he's done with it he'd be bringing it back for more work and that's where we're at right now it's back and he's got another list of things to check out he's a very meticulous customer which i would be too if i owned one of these cars and he has noticed that his steering rack had started leaking on the driver's side boot sure enough we're going to take a look at that here in a little bit it definitely has started leaking and he has noticed some degradation in the steering and it is time for a steering rack rebuild as you can see we already have the steering rack out but i just wanted to show you guys what all had to be done to get it out it really wasn't that bad you would think on a car like this would be some drastic huge procedure but it really wasn't but this is the side right here that was leaking you could see on the boot that it was wet let's go ahead and get the bonnet opened and take a look inside of there so these little bonnet struts are on order they are bad if you were to touch the bonnet it will fall on your head so we're going to go ahead and use this handy dandy tool which clamps onto the the rod of the strut and now it's safe this is for sale on the amazon affiliates page for those of you concerned say oh car wizard you just ruined this strut you marred up the sealing surface who cares it's dead anyway this thing is no longer functioning the car wizard couldn't you have just used a vice grip you could but that's not what i would do in my shop if you bump it or knock the vice grip it could fall on your head also you could inadvertently accidentally bump it in the the body of the vice grip goes right into the paint if you would like to repaint a ferrari's fender you could use a vice grip but we're not going to do that on this car let's go and take a look inside the the trunk or the front bonnet whatever you want to call it you can see it's missing the steering rack it would go straight across through here once you got it unbolted from the subframe and unbolted the tie rod ends and unbolted from the steering column it actually was pretty easy to come out this is the hole you're looking at right here is where it came out of it didn't come out the side of the car it's not going to come out that way but it did come out through this hole very easily actually and here we have it boxed up we're getting ready to ship it off and get it rebuilt i have rebuilt steering racks in the past but that's not something i want to do on a 12 000 steering rack i will let somebody who's been through 10 and 15 and 20 and 30 of these that knows these inside and out do this so if there's any issues the liability is not on me i don't want to buy a 12 000 steering rack so we're going to get it shipped off and get it rebuilt and when it gets back we're going to do another video and actually show you putting it back in this one was already taken out and but i wanted to show you that it really wasn't that hard to do let's go ahead and take a look at the engine bay what we got going on in there and here we are in the engine bay the beautiful beautiful engine bay we've got actually this cover off there's some evap lines which are right here where my fingers are that are starting to sweat these two i replaced the last time it was in they're like new still and there was a third one that was still in good shape but over the past year is no longer in good shape and is this one where my fingers touching here you can see that it's gummy it's like leaking or oozing a goo out of the evap hose you can see where it was dripping right there we've got another one of those ordered and that will take care of that last final evap line and that will be taken care of i've actually never seen that in cars before evap lines that are dripping oozing goo off of them it's kind of maybe it's the material of the hose is actually degrading and dripping plastic or something onto the on the car it's really weird next thing we did is we've replaced both cam sensors and there was nothing wrong with the old ones the customer just says i want them replaced and i said yes sir we will be happy to do that for you and so we've got those replaced you can see them right here they're right by the ignition coil there's one on each side they're kind of tough to get to they plug in underneath the intake but while i was under there i noticed an intake actuator arm that was just laying there it wasn't even connected on this side on the passenger side and the plastic retaining clip that's inside of these sockets is so worn out that it doesn't retain anything anymore it just falls out so we've got the plastic ends ordered those are coming in when you're maintenancing a ferrari or lamborghini or something of that nature those aren't cars that you just change the oil and check the air filter and call it good there's so many things on these cars that are operating severely high performance levels 8000 8500 rpm you don't see that in a in a minivan so there's a lot of heat in these engines coming out of it as well so little parts like these don't last very long you can see this oil hose that i've replaced here that was replaced the last time it was here with a that's a challenge stradale hose that was all they had in stock it's actually kind of hard to get parts of these older 360s everything's listed for sale it doesn't mean that actually have it in stock frequently run up against two three and four week waiting times just kind of the name of the game it is a really really pretty engine and it also sounds amazing in some of huvi's videos and other videos you've seen me driving his lamborghini i've driven other lamborghinis v12s but i still think that the flat plane ferrari v8 is the best sounding engine on the planet that's just my opinion as you can see the power steering reservoir is missing its cap it's actually empty we had to drain the power steering system before we remove the rack so that's why it's sitting there empty there's no fluid in there we will have to refill it once we're done and got the rack back in let's take a look at the interior this is the interior of this 360 and i absolutely love this baby blue or sky blue i'm not sure what blue you would call this we have the center bezel off on the dash here it actually is there's two issues that the customer had so we've got the climate control head out and got it apart and the only reason we have it apart is because of two little buttons actually go here's recirculate and stop which are in my hands here when you push them they're supposed to stay in position and you push it again they go back out of position just like that and this one sometimes will pop out of place on its own but the recirculate button was doing it all the time it will not it will not stay in place no matter what you do so we're looking to see if we can just get these switches i think that i could still repair the switches if we don't find them or have any luck finding them if you were to take this to an exotic shop that's all they do is exotics is they would make you much buy this whole assembly they would say it's two three grand buy it and if you don't want to buy it then get out of my shop that's not what we're going to do here we'll actually be able to repair these buttons or possibly replace them and get this guy back on the road with functioning buttons again it wasn't hard to take this apart it's very very easy to do let's take another few swipes around the interior it's got the wonderful gated manual shifter very very beautiful most exotic cars i don't know that any exotic car has that anymore these days a 2019 ferrari a 20 20 lamborghini you don't have a gated manual it's all paddle shifters flappy paddles as jeremy clarkson calls them this one actually looks a lot like the one that's in that 67 mercedes that we just did yeah it kind of is it's a very vintage style shifter they've had that in exotics for a long time i really like the way that they clunk into gear it's a really nice feeling but the dash is in decent shape all the gauges are in good shape it's really really a nice car very nice car the owner was very excited when he bought it he's never had a car like this before and he's just been absolutely loving it says it makes his adrenaline pump every time he drives it and i told him good that's the car is doing its job that's what they made this car to do is get your heart rate up so while we're in the interior let's take a look at the steering column where we had to disconnect it from the steering rack it's actually very easy to get to it's just a single bolt and then you slightly spread the coupling apart and it slides off the spline shaft really easily that's all you have to do to get to the steering column unbolting from the steering rack it was actually very easy so i thought i'd show you guys this flying ferrari it kind of looks like it's flying in the air there's actually quite a laundry list to go through and fix the things on here but except for the steering rack it's really nothing really huge to fix he just wants all these little things that he's noticed while he's been driving it taken care of i've had magic mike help me on a few things to get some of the stuff taken apart and a helping hand and he kind of comment he's like this is not as hard to work on as i thought it would be i said that's true on the multiple different exotic cars i've had in here i think the 360 is a very very easy car to work on i've worked on three or four of them so far and i haven't had any issue i don't get mad i don't start cursing i don't throw wrenches i don't i really don't do that anyway but these cars don't push my buttons that way every time i've removed something out of the car it's like wow that wasn't so bad and i take this part off wow that was pretty easy they're not hard but there's a thing to remember just because it's easy to work on doesn't mean you can start going faster this is one of the things that i stress to magic mike as i told him when i ask for a helping hand and you're going to help me do something on an exotic car we don't really use power tools too much some people do but i really don't want to strip out bolts you start getting in a hurry and that's when you start accidentally putting a tool across the paint or you start you do something crazy oh crap i went too fast and i made a mistake and these aren't cars to do that on the method that i would use to work on a ford fusion or a honda odyssey van or some simple everyday car are not going to be the same methods i use on these i slow way down whenever i take parts off of these cars i do so slowly methodically and carefully so magic mike's experience years ago was in a dealership and it's zip zip fast fast and hurry up and get the stuff out and try to make your time i told them we're not going to try to make our time on these cars i would rather lose a couple of hours of time than to have to buy like i just mentioned a 12 000 steering rack because we got in a hurry along the way while mike has been working on it he's taking a few pictures and sent it to his old dealership buddies and they're like holy crap man how in the world you get to work on cars like that he's like i don't know man just i work for the wizard now i thought you guys would like to follow along of what we got going on on this 360. many of you have seen it in the shop before it's like hey what's going on with that car why don't you talk about that car well that's what we did today and we showed you what we're taking apart what we're repairing we'll do another video on it as we get the parts fixed and back together and maybe take you guys on a short drive in it it is a really awesome car i really love working on these cars and the more of them the merrier is the way i look at it i think you need a drink oh thank you at least this one hasn't been sitting in a car for a long time it's nice and cold thank you mrs wizard you're welcome removing the rack actually magic mike was giving me a helping hand i would have him hold a bolt while i would take it out and there were several instances where he's like wizard i don't i don't have the right wrench and i don't have the right tool for this i've never done this kind of work before and i happen to have all those tools if you're curious what kind of tools i have check my amazon affiliates link in the description below there's all kinds of tools listed there that i use every day on these types of cars on everyday types of cars any car that comes into the shop they're there for sale i get a small cut out of that and i really appreciate you guys helping out in that way as well if you haven't subscribed already go ahead and do that now we got many more cool things going on in the shop many more cool videos for you guys to watch thanks for watching you
