what version of amiga is the first image from? this is the one im used to:

i have literally never seen the one they use in this video, anybody have an idea what version of amiga its from?
also, i had an atari st at the time amiga 500 was around, and while it was clearly better, it had a way steeper price in finland.
still it took like a year or so for it to be "the game system to have" as it had way better games.
this video is pretty great, having lived trought the amiga 500 phase, (friend had an amiga 500, i had an atari st) he describes it perfectly.
love the FTL logo at one point for atari (oids at 24.24), they made exactly one obscure game, and somehow it made it to the video, good goddamn job, you did a lot of research to find that one, wow. (edit: i have been schooled that they made dungeon master too)
what really blew our minds is when pc was still doing adlib stuff, amiga was doing mod music in games, like pinball fantasies. It was mindbogglingly good.

samples as sound effects in games, impossible....

meanwhile, pc sounded like this, exact same game soundblaster:

and amiga again:

supercars 2 amiga:

pinball fantasies intro, like 4 songs mixed, and yes the game is from swedish digital illusions, also now known as DICE:

the amiga 1200 being overpriced (like way overpriced, when pc was on the market) and the console version of that, amiga cd32 not selling is what finally killed the company.
For those looking for more info on the Amiga, Arstechnica had a good series of articles about it.
No doubt that the Amiga was the best hardware, but the main reason I bought an Atari ST instead of an Amiga 500 was that Dungeon Master wasn't available on the Amiga at the time (it did get ported later, as shown in the video).
That early lack of software really hurt sales, especially when they were asking for £100 more than the ST cost at that time too.
Also, as mentioned in the video, when game companies did start doing straight ports of Atari ST games to the Amiga they often ran slower on the Amiga. This was because the 68000 CPU in the ST was clocked at 8MHz vs 7.1MHz in the Amiga, and ST games used the CPU to do all gfx operations because it didn't have any special gfx hardware like the Amiga did. So unless you spent the time to rewrite parts of the code to use the Amiga's full hardware capabilities (which many early ports didn't) it would run at about 7/8 speed on the Amiga.
Probably one of the best produced YouTube videos I've seen in a while.
Man, I spent so much time in Deluxe Paint.
I grew up going the C64 -> C128 route. Entered college in ‘91 and decided I needed a new computer. Went the 2000 -> 500 -> 3000 route. Realized after a couple of years I needed to learn how a PC worked, so I ended up getting a 486 DX2 66.
The 3000 was one of my favorite all time machines. I really miss it. 🤘
This was awesome, but I want to know what happened after: obviously commodore didn't make it in the end, but why?
I'm writing this comment with OWB on MorphOS.
I thought Ahoy had quit!! Christmas came early!
