this is jeremy and this is 2017 giant town 3. so jeremy what don't you like about your bike it's just an old bike and uh just got new tires but they didn't work out so well the gearing's a little rough but just trying to make do with it so how this works the budget to upgrade your sad bike is the revenue from the last video so here jeremy check it out oh man 783 dang dude you're gonna get a lot of upgrades for that but hold on i think i just saw someone crash dude are you okay my collarbone i think it's broke oh dude no way you have health insurance right i don't have health insurance man did you know that a broken collarbone can cost 12 000 on average that's more than my yeti luckily this video sponsor usa cycling has you covered that's right usa cycling the national governing body of bike racing they're offering the ride membership a zero dollar deductible on the bike injury coverage for only 69 a year when usa cycling first told me about the ride membership i thought it was too good to be true but i've been a registered nurse for 12 years and i read the fine print the ride membership gives you 25 000 in coverage up to four times a year throughout the annual membership and it works with or without primary health insurance that's a pretty hefty amount of coverage for even the most crash-prone rider and if you plan on doing any racing you can get the race plus membership which will be your license to sign up to race and you get the zero dollar deductible on the bike injury coverage and if that's not convincing enough you get access to discounts from park helmets victoria tires and a bunch more no one should be riding without injury coverage and for a limited time usa cycling is offering 19 off either the ride or race plus membership if you use my code evans mtv saga so you can be covered starting at only 50 i'm actually super excited for this bike because i get to go back to my roots with budget bike upgrading first i started out with a thorough bike wash and the bike is in pretty good condition my goal here with a massive 800 budget is to go for volume by that i mean replacing as many parts as possible i'm sure people are gonna tell me to replace the whole bike but after talking to jeremy for a bit he really loves this bike the only issue is i have to meet jeremy by about 6 am tomorrow so i only have about 14 hours to get this done and sleep so let's rip this bike apart [Music] wow this bike is basically stripped down to the frame so first up is the fork i'm going with a rockshox judy silver an air fork that should be a big upgrade i wish i could have gone with the rockshox recon that's tapered and a through axle but i had to skimp a little bit for all the other upgrades that are coming up [Music] [Music] next up is the drivetrain i'm replacing the 3 by drivetrain with a shimano dior m5100 group set this is a huge upgrade with a big 11 speed 51 tooth cassette i'm able to upgrade like this because the rear hub has an hd driver body plus this new derailleur has the most important feature a clutch a clutch is super important with keeping the chain on and nice and tight when you go over bumps as for the cranks i maybe could have used the stock cranks with a different sprocket but i hate square tapered bottom brackets they make taking off cranks a nightmare and they're super heavy going with an external bottom bracket is a major way to save weight so i bought this the trusted ixf set for 60 dollars and the cherry on top i'm gonna hot wax the new chain [Music] so [Music] while the chain is drying i have a major quality of life upgrade for jeremy a dropper post i spent way more than i wanted to on this dropper but it came with everything i need this is an external dropper because the frame doesn't have a way to internally route the cable and they're kind of frowned upon but i always say having any dropper is better than no dropper at all [Music] so we're getting pretty close to the budget limit so i have to go off brand so i picked up these budget lock-on grips a huge upgrade over the stock slip-on grips and for pedals well i think you already know what pedals i bought booker pedals the budget bike community doesn't care about brand names the thing that matters most to them is the law of diminishing returns a budget upgrade will provide massive gains for the cost whereas anything more expensive will only give marginal improvements [Music] so jeremy told me that he tried to make his bike tubeless so he went to his local bike shop and they sold him these 2.5 inch max's tires he installed them himself but he could never get them to hold air so i need to figure out why and i think i have an idea these rims are tubeless ready but they're way too narrow for these tires and the bead can't properly seal i could try and make this work but i wanna fix this the right way so i'm gonna have to go over budget [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] pew the bike is complete and i pulled out all the stops to make this bike as sick as possible but it's late i've been at this all day and i cannot wait to show you guys and jeremy in the morning all right jeremy turn around holy smokes [Music] that's your new bike man everything's completely transformed all right well let's go ride it yeah let's do it i suck at recording why is this all red [Music] so jeremy what do you think about the bike you like it the tires are grippy and night and day difference between the old ones i knew that i would have bought them a long time ago i definitely think it's easier to maneuver everything i haven't had an issue with trying to figure out what's the lowest and highest gear it's just straightforward it gives me the confidence i need to go down a nice big jump or a hill all right we made it to the parking lot how do you feel tired but good all right well like comment subscribe who knows maybe your bike could be the next one
