what's up my name is technobe here for troubleshoot and welcome back to another video in this quick video i'll be running through some solutions that you can try if you're not able to play steam games whether it's all of them or just some specific steam games this is a very general guide and of course if you're only having issues with one specific game it could be something to do with that game game servers etc make sure you're not the only one having issues if you try everything in this tutorial and other tutorials anyways let's get into it what should you do first if steam games are showing issues they're not starting up properly or running properly well simply if you can actually open up steam itself do exactly that open the steam client on your computer when it's running locate the game that's causing you issues right click it and then click properties inside of this new window head across to local files and make sure to click verify integrity of game files in here you can also back up the files and move them to a different folder verifying game files is usually the first thing to do when games don't work properly on steam before we get too drastic it's very good idea to make sure that your graphics card driver is up to date and of course windows as well open up settings on your computer head across to windows update and simply check for updates if anything's available download and update them and restart your computer and try the game again if you haven't updated your graphics card driver in a while or ever you can either download the official installer off of say nvidia or amd's website or if you have a program like nvidia geforce experience you can use that to download and update your drivers i'm not going to include specific steps in this video as it's super easy to do and it's very easy to find guides for if you haven't done it before regardless once you've updated both your graphics card and windows itself see if the game is running properly if you're having issues with more than just one game in particular a good idea is to flush steam cache you can do this by holding start and pressing r to bring up this dialog box inside of here type steam colon forward slash forward slash flush config board slash you'll find this linked in the description down below by doing this and hitting enter you'll be prompted whether you'd like to clear local download cache and you'll need to log into steam again upon clicking yes your steam will be closed and you'll be asked to sign in once more when you do things should be working a bit better than before or at least hopefully let's say that you're still having issues with specific games and you're the only one having issues with them what else can we try well the odd solution that i've come across for more than a handful of games is simply moving them to a faster drive super odd but it is something you can try if you have an ssd or something available and it's a relatively small game right click properties and on the local files tab simply click move install folder if you have steam libraries set up on your other drives you can simply select them here click move and your game content will be moved from one drive to another sometimes verifying cache of local files is not enough to get the game working properly if you've tried verifying files and things don't work you can if it's a relatively small game re-download it entirely but before you do so right click the game hover over manage and then click browse local files a new file browser will open up and it'll take you across to the game files what you should do is keep this file open or at least head back a folder then inside of steam right click the game hover over manage and click uninstall when you use them all of these local files should be removed from your computer however if the folder is left and there's any files inside of it that means that these were either placed by you left over from previous installations etc it's a good idea to delete the folder entirely same i just uninstalled counter strike if there's still files in this folder or the counterstrike global offensive folder still exists simply delete it outright when you've done some the game should be fully uninstalled if there's any settings files for it left over in your documents and things like that they'll probably still be there when you reinstall the game unfortunately and if they're the cause of the issue for the specific game you're having issues with well they'll still be there after reinstall so it isn't something that'll always work but it is an option when you reinstall the game choose the same drive or a different drive and upon reinstalling it everything should be reset as previously mentioned if the game saving config files in folders like your documents and things like that they'll still be there when you reinstall the game if you're having issues with a particular game and only a specific game it's a good idea to google for solutions for that specific game as often times they'll be taking you across to these config files and showing you how to delete them in those specific guides finally the last solution that you can really try actively for any games that you're having issues is simply right clicking hovering over manage and clicking browse local files where inside of here we'll locate the correct exe file this is usually the biggest one and doesn't have things like underscore before battle eye etc etc the main program exe right click it click properties and inside of this window on the compatibility tab simply make sure that everything here is unticked some people say disable full screen optimizations for better fps if it's ticked untick it apply and try run the game the thing that usually helps a lot is this tick box over here run this program as an administrator if you have this ticked click apply and run the game you'll be prompted whether you'd like to run it as admin upon clicking yes it should have elevated permissions to files on your computer and it shouldn't be erroring out as often however do you note if you're running games as admin hotkeys and things like discord and that won't work properly unless those are also running as admin if that still doesn't help you untick it and tick this box at the very top run this program in compatibility mode 4 and choose the last operating system you remember playing this older title on if you don't remember anything head back to windows 8 or windows 7 and see if things work properly anything before this especially if this operating system was released long before the actual game itself it probably won't help too much so usually windows 7 or 8 if anything finally if you don't have any further clues on the compatibility tab there's a running compatibility troubleshooter button which will open up a windows prompt and it'll try to guess what it can do to help usually this isn't too much help sometimes it is enough then finally if you're still having issues with a specific game once again refer back to google and search for that specific game having startup issues black screen widescreen whatever it could be usually there's specific config files or things you need to change sometimes even launch arguments to better suit your computer etc but anyways that's really about it for this quick guide thank you all for watching money's been taken over here for troubleshoot and i'll see you all next time ciao
