hey guys welcome back if you're new here my name is becca and today i have the first of my bi-annual unhauls [Music] so my unhaul system is that when i've decided that i would no longer like a book i put it in a pile in the corner of the room and i tend to do at least two unhauls a year occasionally there are more than that but i always do one around late april and then i tend to do one in like november slash december so this is my april one i don't have a grand amount of books to unhaul this time i think i have around 15 16. and i'm just going to be going through those with you guys today because i'm having a little bit of a tidy and i need to take these to my local charity shop so the first stack of books that we have were the ones from last year's these books will self-destruct in 12 months i have done a reaction video to that so you can see the whole thing but i'm just going to breeze through these ones pretty quickly so we have every day by david levithan this one is a young adult contemporary about somebody who's reborn into a different body every day and they fall in love and it's how they're navigating that when they're in a different body every day we have what if it says by becky albertalli and adam silvira this one is a young adult contemporary romance that follows two boys who meet at the post office and they go on a series of dates that don't go quite right which leaves them questioning like what if they're not meant to be together at all ink by alice broadway is a young adult fantasy this one centers around a society where when you die your skin is taken off your body and put into a book two that i really don't know anything about is the lie tree and also cuckoo song by frances hardinge i think that the lie tree was included in these books will self-destruct in 12 months but if i'm on haul in one book by francis hardinger i'm going to unhaul both that i've got but i have heard since i made that video that you guys don't think i would like these anyway because they are quite historical we then have daughter of the flames by zoe marriott this one is an east asian inspired young adult fantasy about a girl who trains to be a warrior princess and finally from that stack we have clean by juno dawson this is a young adult contemporary that is set in a rehab of the rest of them the only ones that i haven't read or at least attempted to read are the school for nobodies by susie bower this one is a children's story about a girl who ends up going to a boarding school for misfits this one was sent to me by the publisher i think it was pushkin press i got a whole pack of arcs from them and some of them i weren't as interested in and this is one of them we also have my true love gave to me which is a anthology of 12 winter romances edited by stephanie perkins i had the summer version of this as well which i think i've already unhauled because i've read it i don't love anthologies and i didn't really like the summer one which is pretty much identical just in a different season so it took me a while because i was just gonna read this over the winter season and have it done i since decided that i just really can't be bothered so i could have been hauling this we then have a few duplicates only one of which i haven't read and that is law by alexandra bracken this was included in both the lumacrates and the old crate for i think january this year all of my special edition like subscription box books i do tend to give to my best friend brian and that is where this one's gonna be going but this one is the old crate edition of the two i decided to keep the fairy loot and this is a young adult fantasy story that is set in modern day new york and every few years every seven years there is something called the aegon which is where the gods are sent down to earth and they have to kill the descendants of other gods families to regain their immortality and godhood and all of that stuff we then have truthwitch by susan dennard i read this recently because i am a co-host for the which lands along which is hosted by jade at jd ray reads i had the paperback of truthwitch which is this one but since i read this book i decided to upgrade them all to hardback because i really like the uk hardback editions so i will no longer be needing my paper back but this one is young adult adult fantasy that follows a young truthwitch called saffy and her best friend is yields they want to save up some money and get a home for themselves outside of the city and when they are trying to make some money they accidentally catch the attention of a blood witch who can send people's blood and track them and it's a secret that saffies the truth which because the truth which is something that is very comfortable as she can tell who's lying and telling the truth so while safy and israel's are on the run from this bloodwitch they end up embroiled in this very complex political plot that centers a 20-year treaty between a few countries that is about to come to an end possibly causing the world to go to war we then have it ready player one by ernest cline this is one of my favorite books of all time but i did get the re-released 8-bit hardback copy for christmas so i will not be needing the paperback anymore and this one is an adult's virtual reality sci-fi that takes place in this post-apocalyptic world that is pretty miserable so everybody goes into this virtual world called the oasis to escape the creator of the oasis james holliday died quite a few years ago and he left an easter egg hunt behind and anyone who can find the easter eggs and solve the clues will inherit his estate so our main character finds the first easter egg after so many years of people searching which sends a whole ton of people hunting him down because also searching for these easter eggs is a massive organization who would like to crack the code first and take control of the oasis a couple that i tried and sadly the left we have the once and future queen by clara o'connor this one is a young girl fantasy that is a blend of arthurian legend celtic myth and like the roman empire i thought it was incredibly messy i really didn't like the main character and i didn't like the tone of the writing style either i think i've taken my bookmark out and i think i made it to like 120 pages into this and sadly could not continue we also have the midnight queen by sylvia hunter this is i think is a young adult fantasy that is set in a historical time period it's like the victorian period i think and it does have a fantasy element i just really didn't like the tone of this because it is very historical it's kind of like a period drama with some like scholarly magical elements in here i don't love historical fiction and i just could not get on board with that period drama tone and then for the ones that i've read that i just don't want to keep the first one is suicide club by rachel heng this was the first book i read for my 2021 unhaul project and this one is a literary dystopian that follows a young woman who lives in the society where you have the potential to live forever providing that you live by these strict societal guidelines that include things like not eating meat not eating food at all actually just eating like nutrient packs only light intensity exercise because it's bad for your joints and the main character sees her estranged father one day and accidentally steps into the path of a oncoming car which puts her under observation from the authorities and this makes her start to question whether she wants to live forever where the human should live forever as she rebuilds her relationship with her estranged father we also have ollie's not forgotten by wendy walker which was another book that was included in that unhaul project this one is an adult thriller that i really enjoyed i just don't keep thrillers after i've read them because i don't see the point but this one has very heavy trigger warnings for sexual assault as this follows a young girl i think she's 14 at the time that it happens and the story takes place a little bit afterwards but this young girl is very brutally raped at a party and her body and her mind goes into shock so the details are really hazy and her parents agree to this treatment that will make her forget everything happened however her body and like her instincts still remember that something happened to her even though she cannot mentally access that trauma so this follows a very clinical perspective of what happened to the girl and the treatment and how the kind of repressed memories are still affecting her life and it also has a lot of small town drama in here where we have a group of people who want her to forget it ever happened and just move on with her life and a group of people who want to find out who did this because this was a very unusual attack to take place in their small town so the synopsis on this doesn't mention anything about sexual assault but the first chapter like straight from the first chapter is a very detailed clinical description of the rape so do because about going in what i thoroughly enjoyed this one we then have daisy jones on the six by taylor jenkins read i listened to the audiobook of this not long ago and it is like a fake biography about this band called daisy jones and the six so we start off following them separately we have daisy jones and we have the band the six and this is the story told from the perspective of the band members of what happened like to them to start off the music career and then when they came together and then eventually why they split up because one day the band did just split up nobody said why they just all went their separate ways and never made music again so the audiobook of this first off is fantastic it is a full cast audio the atmosphere is amazing i really enjoyed this but i'm not interested about the music industry in the music scene in the like mid to late 60s and 70s so while i really enjoyed it for what it is there is like a huge part of this story that i was just completely disinterested in so personally i prefer evelyn hugo which is a very similar story to this about a hollywood starler daisy johnson vi would recommend just personally there was like a big big element of it that i just wasn't that into and then i think the final book that i'm going to be talking about is winter world by shea earnshaw this is the oh great edition so i'll probably give this to ryan as well but this one is a young adult fantasy that follows a young woman called nora walker who is rumored to be a witch and she lives in the woods like a few miles outside of town and this story takes place when a massive snowstorm blows in and a boy goes missing from the nearby camp for wayward boys i enjoyed this it was really atmospheric interspersed throughout it it also has like pages from the walker women's spell book really enjoyed it it's just i read this probably around september-ish last year i think and i already remember very little about it and i have no attachment to it so i may as well unhaul it so that is it for this unhaul video by the time you watch this i will probably have donated them all to charity aside from the few that i'm giving to ryan i was going to say leave something down in the comments but honestly with it being an unhaul i don't really know what to suggest because i don't want you to tell me that these are your favorite books and then me feel bad about unhauling them so i guess that is it for this video i will see you guys in like november december for my second unhaul of 2021 but aside from that please don't forget to like if you liked it and subscribe if you wanna if you into my description box you'll find a link to my goodreads instagram twitter if you'd like to follow me on any of those as well as a link to my bookish bodybutter and
