and welcome back to the channel everybody this is shakka from Shaka reacts and today we've got another music teacher reaction and Analysis video for you specifically we're going to be checking out the group System of a Down and their song chop sooie this is the first time I will have ever heard this song before guys so I'm super excited to check it out let's get into [Music] it [Music] cool I like [Music] that I was I I sorry I I don't know this early I was literally just about to say what is that that high high register sound thing going on right there what is that like I almost thought it was like a I don't know like a strange ethnic instrument that I've never heard before playing something crazy almost like a balaa or something like that it it it was just the guy playing on the very top of his fretboard that's pretty cool we're going to rewind again guys H sorry I like I said I don't know I stopped that early but uh that was really cool I love the layering of the acoustic in the electric too by the way that's really [Music] cool that's so neat that's a cool base part up away why you leave the KE up on the table here you go create another table you want to grab brush put a little makeup you want to I just got the fade away the shake up you wanted to why you leave the K up on the table you want it to why don't think you trust in this is [Music] trippyelf I like that [Applause] Harmony wake up wake up Grand put a little makeup I just the I just the you leave the keys upon the table you create another F you are to never brush put a little makeup you want to I dis the B way the shakeup you want to why you need kiss on the table you want to I don't think you trust in my self-righteous suicide I cry when Angels deserve to [Music] die my self-righteous SU [Applause] What Angels deserve [Music] to I I I have a feeling we're going to break out again here in a second but I love in particularly this last section that we heard um so it sounds like we've primarily got like two sections we got like an a section and a b section mostly here uh and you know obviously the a section is the that that whole section wake up um but this B section that we're getting here with with the arpegios that we've got going on and the keyboard section here uh and then kind of this just nice melodic halftime feel I I I don't know what it is that I like about it so much but I just I love it I know one of the things I really love and that is the harmonies that we have here the harmonies in this section are really unique um like I I we don't typically hear that very often they're parallel pretty much the entire time which is very unusual so parallel I'm sure most of you guys understand the concept of parallel in terms of mathematics uh it's the same concept in music it's just it means that those intervals stay parallel the entire time um we don't typically hear that for prolonged periods of time in music uh fun history fact because back in back back back back back back in the day we weren't supposed to do that actually uh but typically we don't hear that even today that frequently and to have such a prolonged passage where there's just parallel intervals like that it's really unique it's not something that we hear that frequently it's really cool uh I want to hear that section again I'm going to try to start right around here this should be pretty close to it you the table you want I don't think you trust in my self rightous I Cry when Angels deserve to die in my self righteous suicide I cry when Angels deserve to [Music] die [Music] into your hands I commend my spirit heard that me in your thoughts forsaken me in your heart forsaken okay so real quick so that kind of that's kind of like a C-section I guess if you will maybe our bridge I said I feel like I've heard this before I I have not heard this specifically but I I'm pretty sure that I've heard or played a uh a musical before where they use this beginning part of this it's something that's very very very similar to this I can't put my finger on what it is exactly that it reminds me of um but it feels like something I've heard before in musical theater and and it's very MO the one that I'm thinking of is a much more modern show and it makes me wonder if uh if cuz the the trend in musical theater of late especially is that we've taken a lot of the musical styles of like the 90s for instance and we've we've adapted them and put them into musical theater um so it makes me wonder if the the show that I'm thinking of again I can't think of specifically where it is right now guys um but it makes me wonder if that basically got its influence from this this song and from this section in particular uh yeah this sounds so familiar to me not this part yet to be [Music] clear your why have you forsaken me in your eyes forsaken me in your thoughts for me and then when we switch to the inyou thoughts forsaken me section that's that's not so much what I'm thinking of it's it's literally the father into your hands section I if if any of you have a suggestion on where you I know I'm really not helping you guys at all with this but if you have an idea of the show that I'm thinking of uh let me know in comments like I said I'll point it out very specifically it's the very beginning of the vocal section of [Music] this like I swear I've heard that before in something I just can't place what it is though um sorry we we'll go and continue again this time guys I just it's an earworm that I can't place I it's driving me [Music] crazy Spirit B into your hands why have you forsaken me in your eyes foren me in your thoughts forsaken me in your heart [Music] forsaken me oh TR love myON self rightous suicide c i man I love this section this is such a good section I gosh I love it it's not it's so different than anything I've heard before too but I I love the harmony here um something that he's done for the first time I don't think I've heard it before here guys I want to point it out so the the the higher Harmony Part here he so usually he kind of does the whole parallel stuff and then he resolves the chord pretty pretty easily but in this instance of it when we start to really break loose in this fin I'm assuming this is the final version of this of this chorus um he does a little bit of kind of a uh a little bit of a suspension if you will it's almost like a deceptive Cadence and then it does eventually resolve though uh it's a really really cool like melismatic uh line that he does there if you guys listen closely I'll try to point it out again it's just really neat he hasn't done it before and it just add adds this really cool color and Nuance to the to the melody that we've got [Music] here self right there right at the end of that side on the self-righteous suicide just a really cool little msma there trust in my [Music] that's so cool so like I said he hasn't done that before and that just adds this really neat little Nuance to what he's singing compared to before and then on top of that obviously we've got the piano um in this section playing way way way more accented on Marcato versus before it was much more Legato and flowy and now it's like almost hammering hard on it really home it's just it's s again it's great I love this I love the way it's written I love the harmonies year I love the layers of all the stuff that we've got on top of each other it's a great great [Music] section me oh trust in my self rightous soide I cry when Angels deserve to die and my rightous Sude why cry when Angels deserve to die I love how they end that phrase too so because when they first start the phrase we hear the the Harmony and the higher part so much more strongly than we do um the bottom Melody part uh I think it's Serge is you is how you say his name from remember correctly he you hear him far less at the beginning of the phrases but then when we get to the end and we get to the more Melancholy ending to this suddenly he becomes the prominent voice and in the harmony just kind of Falls away and it just becomes this very exposed uh section from a from a musical standpoint it's just a really cool contrast to how we're starting with this kind of just this this raw emotional scream of of frustration and and and energy and then we just kind of bring it down to this this calm moment at the end it's just really really [Music] cool when Angels deserve to die myelf like he's already started backing away when Angels deserve to die really really neat contrast in uh in the way that you approach the difference in melodic lines there that's really cool I I really enjoy this song guys like I said um that the the father section sounds so similar to something that I've heard before and I cannot place what it is let me know in the comments if you guys have any idea what I'm referring to um I I know I'm not helping you at all on that front but I swear I've heard something like that before in musical theater and I just can't place what it is um H yeah I absolutely love this guys I'm I'm quickly becoming a big fan of System of Down they've got a really cool group of songs here we this is only the second one that we've listened to th far and I really enjoyed them as a as a whole really really nuanced writing nuanced lyrics um cool cool playing with meter to some degree uh and how the the feel of the meter more more in particular really really cool stuff really really enjoyed it uh hopefully you guys enjoyed today's video as much as I did if you did guys I'd appreciate it
