season of land invites us to meditate on the mercy and compassion of god the father for us it makes us aware that our sins will lead us to eternal death but the mercy and compassion of god offers us eternal life let us now prepare for this holy mass as we acknowledge the time we have seen against god and one another i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts in my words in what i've done in what i failed to do through my fall through my fault through my most gravious fault therefore as a blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and to you my brothers and sisters who pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen [Music] see [Music] see reading from the letter of saint paul to the romans scripture says the word that is the faith we proclaim is very near to you it is on your lips and in your heart if your lips confess that jesus is lord and if you believe in your heart that god raised them from the dead then you will be saved by believing from the heart you are made righteous by confessing with your lips you are saved when scripture says those who believe in him will have no cause for shame it makes no distinction between jew and greek all belong to the same lord who is rich enough however many ask for his help for everyone who calls on the name of the lord will be saved the word of the lord thanks be to god praise to you o christ king of eternal glory man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of god bless to you of christ the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you oh lord filled with the holy spirit jesus left the jordan and was led by the spirit through the wilderness being tempted there by the devil for 40 days during that time he ate nothing and at the end he was hungry then the devil said to him if you are the son of god tell this stone to turn into a love but jesus replied scripture says man does not live on bread alone then leading him to a height the devil showed him in a moment of time all the kingdoms of the world and said to him i will give you all this power and the glory of these kingdoms for it has been committed to me and i give it to anyone i choose worship me then and it shall all be yours but jesus answered him scripture says you must worship the lord your god and serve him alone then he led him to jerusalem and made him stand on the parapet of the temple if you are the son of god he said to him throw yourself down from here for scripture says he will put his angels in charge of you to guard you and again they will hold you up on their hands in case you hurt your foot against a stone but jesus answered him it has been said you must not put the lord your god to the test having exhausted all these ways of tempting him the devil left him to return at the appointed time brothers and sisters the gospel of the lord brothers and sisters we have started the season of land last wednesday nothing magical about wednesday ash wednesday is just that it will make up 40 days if we come from ash wednesday to holy saturday minus sunday because sundays we are not supposed to fast because it is the day of the lord yeah the day of the resurrection so if you count from ash wednesday to holy saturday then it makes 40 days just as we have heard in the gospel today the 40 days and of course when moses went up mount sinai he was up there also for 40 days of course we know that in hebrew 40 days means a long time to coop masa but of course the just says let us take 40 days exactly to prepare ourselves for easter because easter is the feast of the church when on good friday the disciples saw jesus died on the cross all the disciples of jesus ktm because because if you according to human experience you see somebody died yeah and so that was the reaction of the disciples and that's why we read in the gospel some of them decide to go home to e mouse two disciples and the other disciples decide to go back to their former work saint peter and the other gang went fishing but on easter sunday jesus rose again yeah and they can't believe it the thought is a ghost because if somebody died and come back to you what do you say ghost hunter that's exactly the reaction of the disciples but jesus said no no no it is i and because of that resurrection experience the church celebrates it on sunday because jesus rose on the first day of the week after sabbath yeah we read in the gospel yeah and of course during the early days of the church to be exact almost 300 years there was no liturgy like we have today because christians were persecuted first by saint paul himself saul then later on the roman empire yeah and until emperor constantinople became christian then christianity becomes the ori the former or the official religion of the empire and it was then that the church begins to have a former liturgy that was reformed by gregory the great yeah i think we a lot of us love gregory chan khan the the the hymns that is chanted yeah that we are now using in the [Music] sisters as we see that our liturgy starts in advance the season of advent and then we celebrate christmas then now we are entering into the season of land what is the season of land the season of land is to remind us brothers and sisters in christ that we will die if we persist in our sin and that's the reason why the liturgical color is a purple yeah and we don't sing gloria we don't sing alleluia yeah and we don't have decoration in the church anymore exactly like if somebody died in the kampung or died in our family yeah everything bata no rami we say if a marriage is arranged if somebody organized a party birthday is butter because we respect the death yeah and no no noise no noise no no tv in the house the tv is even covered yeah yes brothers and sisters in christ whose death do we celebrate or remember during the season of land yeah our own death our own death brought about by sin and if we persist in sinning we will die eternally because sin cut us away from god yeah the source of life yeah all of us here overseer experience we have experienced we live in the kampung if you cut the branch off the tree yeah then the branch will die gun maybe if you travel down the road and you see no the vine going up the cisco or the telecom and they cut it at the best the whole thing dies and this is exactly the scenario brothers and sisters look in front of us the picture or the decoration that is done is exactly the desert yeah where nothing lives we will die and jesus jesus goes into the desert yeah death it represents death and if we persist in living in sin brothers and sisters in christ we will die eternally and so therefore this season of land the church is inviting us mother church is inviting us to cut off all our sins that we said in bahasa malaysia that's why jesus said if your leg and your hands cause you to sin cut it off cut it off and during the season of land the church invites us to do it together together yes so that we support one another because maybe individually we feel very weak we don't have the strength we don't have the smaangat to overcome our sin and the church said no don't persist in sin and jesus tell us cut it off it could be individually it could be a group of people who cause us to sin father say judy individual we have to cut off that kaki father any kaki judi get away from these people who cause us to sin or situation that cause us to sin and come back to eternal life yeah and actually seasonal plan is about our baptism yeah and that's why during the holy saturday night virgil we renew our baptismal promise yeah remembering the time that we promised to god yes i believe in god the father yes i believe in jesus yes i believe in the holy spirit no to sin no to the devil no to the world and we promise god that we will try again after rising with jesus and to show that we are serious in our repentance in our coming back to god in renewing our baptismal promise the church promised us three disciplines or asked us to follow three discipline first of fasting second of prayer and of course the word of god third is to do good works is to do good works and so we fast what kind of fasting besides physical fasting food from food we are also encouraged to fast from our sins to do away with sins to say no to sin to occasion of sins that will lead us to go further and further away from god yeah and secondly prayer because prayer is like eating every day we eat breakfast we eat lunch and we eat the dinner again how many of us here forget to eat lunch or breakfast or dinner anyone very seldom can't unless we say jagabadan or else we would not forget yeah why because we know that if we don't eat one day two days three days four days we're going to die yeah but eating actually also is not just to make us full eating is to give us energy to work and give us protection from diseases give us health and so prayer and the word of god is also the same so in a way the season of land is like asking us mother asking us let us pray more and so we go to church twice a week normally we come on the sunday but on the season of lane we also come for the station of the cross yeah and also we are encouraged to come for delhi mass and if we cannot make it to the church then we are encouraged to pray at home be the rosary girl the divine mercy girl or reading the bible together as a family to grow together as a family and of course the third discipline that the church asked us to do is good works good works and one of it is of course every season of land we will receive a little envelope yeah from saint vincent the poor and we put our money inside the envelope and we give it to the saint vincent the poor who will help us to care for the poor but i think it is not enough we ourselves also physically have to to take care of the poor it could be you know on kampung in our own community and there are so many who needs our help yeah and actually we can help them yeah and so this season of land is an opportunity an opportunity to grow in the lord to do away with sin and to grow in the lord and like the first reading says god promised abraham land why land if you don't have land you cannot build a house if you build a house then your house is haram gun if you have no land then you are stateless then you are haram and you can be put in jail how many of you here are don't have an ic i will catch you and throw you into jail huh we are scared if we don't have icy if we don't have land if we don't have a house that's the human tendency yeah we don't feel secure and that's the reason why god promised abraham the land then with the land abraham can build a house and with the house he can stay in the house and that becomes the image my brothers and sisters in christ of our heavenly home and we are all one family and the physical church becomes the reminder of our hope when we get baptized that one day we will go to heaven our heavenly home but are we on the journey yeah or we maniale instead of going on the journey to heaven we are always sidetracking yeah always manila wang yeah if that's the case we are not going to go home and if we get too lost then we're going to die eternally and that's why in this first week of land we read about jesus jesus who will be the example for us jesus who said no to the devil you remember the three temptation gun that we heard in the gospel reading jesus becomes our course jesus becomes our redeemer jesus becomes our strength as the second reading says yeah and he will continue to be with us his spirit will continue to be with us man does not live on bread alone the first way of fasting man does not live on bread or lord and methi will include but on the word of god too and the bible you must worship the lord your god and serve him alone yeah but remember what the devil says bow down to me and i will give you all the kingdoms of the world my brothers and sisters all the kingdoms of the world all the karaja's all the negri in this world is under the power of the devil yeah that's what saint luke says that's what the devil says all the kingdoms and there are many people who worship the devil yeah the devil already said all the kingdoms are subjected to me therefore my brothers and sisters be careful we must not be tricked by the devil and brothers and sisters the third temptation even the bible even the devil knows how to quote from the bible even the devil knows how to quote from the bible therefore we must always ever be ready yeah if we don't eat well enough we're going to get sick we cannot fight the virus we cannot fight the sickness we will die yes brothers and sisters in christ the season of land mother church is also telling us if we are not strengthened by the word of god if we don't take care of our spiritual being then we are going to be defeated by the devil and we are going to die and die eternally but god who loves us so much don't want to see us die god is like our father and mother you as father and mother you love your children so much you will sacrifice anything everything to see that your children lives we know that in the early 40s 50s our parents worked so hard plant pedi plant lada until they literally become bangkok so that the children can live so that you can go to school yeah yes brothers and sisters that's the love of our help our gastric or we have some sickness or we are not well it's okay you can fast from other things yeah you can fast from handphone you can thrust from gossiping you can fast from tv you can fast from so many things and improve your prayer life read the bible don't read all those rubbish all the majala and all the gossips about movie stars and flame stars and some people knows the alpine footballer better than the bible they know who is playing in the liverpool they know who is in mu but you ask them about the bible they know nothing they know when is mu playing who is liverpool playing against i was wondering my goodness if they know the bible that well yes brothers and sisters we put our energy so much energy on the world but as christian we only put hardly anything into improving our christian life so if we fall to the temptation of the devil it's not surprise it's like if we don't eat well we don't take care of our health and we get sick it's not surprise khan and we don't eat we sanduri so my brothers and sisters in christ this is what mother church is employing us yeah and let us this year let us do one thing yeah let us fast for one thing let us repent cut away one of the khakis or whatever in our lives and let us come back to god let's die to our sins so that we may rise again with jesus on easter that is the rising and if we rise every year with jesus i believe when we finally die we will truly rise with jesus into heaven may god and the holy spirit bless all our efforts in this season of land amen having heard the word of god and challenged by the word of god to repentance let us now stand and profess our faith in the god who loves and cares for us as we pray i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ son of all god lord from god light from light true god from true god begotten name father through him all things were made for us for [Music] he was crucified he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son parties entrusted with political responsibility in the ukraine's conflict to refrain from any action that would cause suffering to people and to solve any conflict through diplomatic means let us pray
