we love your dad's a contractor dud yeah that was like our show that was every dad back then had to been like we're watching this this is our it was a great show dude it was a a guy doing construction and then working on a hot rod and me and Lonnie related to the two boys so much because like even one was blonde and one was dark hair you know like what the hell were there Randy and Jonathan Jonathan Taylor Thomas was one of them and then I forget the old their brother's name Randy and uh Randy Randy Randy started with a B I think uh Brad Brad BR it was it was Brad yes yeah yeah Randy and Randy sounds like a male stripper you know it does Randy and Randy Randy but that was my that was my dad to the tea I mean could work on anything I mean he'd work on a truck he'd work on this he just a man's just a carpenter a doing a Do-it all kind of guy of course you know but he he didn't burn things down though I mean yeah that would and that's where I come in not reading a measure and [ __ ] bringing a a saw out that I strapped a battery to a car battery yeah all right so today folks we got together and uh we're doing another another firefighter episode at the end of the day we are firefighters and uh this is I found a list online and it's top 10 things firefighters don't want you to know and yeah I think that'll be pretty interesting but before we get started another Tales from the street or whatever real quick okay this is a a new dad thing that I have I I had an epiphany the other day T in here yeah let me paint a picture for you H close your eyes Okay imagine imagine me and you are in a relationship me and you are homosexual all right yeah we're having fun we're having that makes sense coming from YouTube okay murf every now and then murf comes in he hangs out with us we go on guys trips whatever but imagine that you can open your super super weird but uh so imagine that me and you we're lovers and we're doing our own thing and up in the mountains we're traveling we're saving lots of money and you know we're buying each other rad dud because if there's one thing we know gay guys bu each other awesome it's two dudes dud two dud sence yeah they buy each other the best gifts so we're hanging out buying each other the best gifts do you think we would ever be like let's adopt a child oh as a new dad no uhuh no no I it would take a woman for me to be like you have to have a woman absolutely you I don't know how I mean Hey listen if you can if you if you can do it shout out to you for doing it dude but there's something in them that that we don't have we get you get so not fed up but you get so frustrated because again you can't fix the problem and this Baby's just crying and you're like here and they're like and it just immed the baby's like oh and he just goes to sleep there's a connection that moms have at that early age that gosh just don't man there's something going on there's something going on so yeah if me and you were it's got to be our patience my patience is not good with my kids if me and you were gay lovers we would just continue traveling the world hanging out' be so happy God hanging out with yeah we would be yeah we'd be living the dream maybe when you're older just go town on each other all the time making each other dinner is what I'm saying we' go one pole skiing making each other dinner going on skiing trips and stuff leaving each other alone you know leaving each other giving each other alone time yeah you wouldn't be nagging me I'd still be nagging you you just be play you just be playing war zone all day we just be playing video games all day let's drop in let's drop in yeah we're dropping in we'll drop in then I'll drop in on you later nice nice that was an epiphany I had the other day we're not gay though let every hey shout out to you if you if you can do it man but there's just something about a woman with a baby man I can't they're just a damn Miracle Worker I can see two women having you know baby they both have the patience two guys would be so like if we're talking about infants that's just like that's tough dude God man if I didn't have for any of my kids the mom I would be like yeah I think I'm done right like we're over yeah this is it they're so get them out of diapers and I'll take them yeah Mur said that to me whenever I was having kid he's like oh man wait till they're six months old and then I'll come hang out with them right all right cool yeah yeah because you don't there's even a new dad you something you realize like that baby don't even want me don't give a [ __ ] about to be honest with you I like both my kids both my kids I was telling hel yeah both my kids I I wish the hospital would have held on to them for six months six months and yeah then the you know Hospital feed them take care of them whatever and then at 6 months okay now they're like cing and laughing and you know like oh this is fun yeah I'll take them now we're better than other dad like way back in the day they didn't even [ __ ] they were like all right I'm getting back out to I'm going to go my dad went straight back to the steel Factory he like you got it yeah all right next day next day dude so anyway yeah all right like Side Bar complete I like that's a good one next time next time with my homosexual sidebars I'll includ M Mur sorry I got I got one till from the street okay that I got to explain since you talking about holl's Widow Peak okay and the rattle can thing so I went and got a haircut the other day Okay from a Dominican place a dude they Edge you up dude those guys are awesome so that I mean they slap you in the back of the head and [ __ ] awesome well awesome haircut really the the dude spent his time he like did an awesome job but then when it came down to like you know cutting around my ears and like uh like around the edges yeah dude talk about Edge Edge me up and I'm not I'm not exaggerating he when he got up here so he edged me here yeah he takes a card and takes some of the rattles spray and dude like left me like like this cholo man when he when he started doing it I was like oh no but him and I can't really communicate I actually showed him a picture on my phone and I was like something like this and um and he does a great job you know every time I've ever been there but uh when he spawned me around in that chair I was like oh no oh [ __ ] I was like please I hope this stuff comes out and then dude as soon as we got as soon as I got in my truck I'm like scub my head yeah but I mean the dude did a great job but um yeah is that like spray paint it's like spray paint yeah now it does wash out and it does like you know you can take it off pretty easy but I was terrified at the moment it's unbelievable that you did not send us a picture of this that's the most upsetting thing about this I want no one to see this dude man take a picture forgot for the damn podcast that could have been 10 subscribers Jesus it looked like I like I had should have a tear dropping like a face tattoo somewhere man that would have been awesome unbelievable oh man that could be you that's what you that could be you you could me I could pull it off me yeah cuz you need that you got I'm just going to shave my dude once it gets to a certain point I'm shaving it I'm like whatever you know [ __ ] thousand subscribers we had a guy like that at station just recently shave his head Gallagher man man gag I saw him walking across a parking lot this morning he looked like the guy from uh the movie look like the guy from the movie Powder I was waiting on a bend a [ __ ] spoon out there bring a deer back to life well he did it he did it in the right time you you want to shave your head in the winter you don't want to do it in the summer time whenever you're all of a sudden this is all white and the rest of you that's a good point I was thinking more along the lines like my son I just got his haircut and uh they you know I was like give them a short haircut it's you know they're going to be sweating playing sports and think about that when you shave your head it's better to have it when it's kind of cool outside so can like naturally progress color but if you're Irish you know like you're screwed no matter what sun comes out dude that's it you look like a drunk you know I mean like drunks are real red all the time red cherry nose all right anyway to the list couple of tangent tannies over here dude so I've got one no I'm just kidding of course uh so again back to the list we are so this is the list I found online it's medium is the author the the website whatever top 10 things firefighters don't want you to know interesting right off the rip under the tough exterior are soft underbellies okay I'll give you that we're super tough guys you know we got huge forearms dude look at these things put yours down yeah we're super tough and manly uh but here we go I'll read there's a little blur below it the firefighter image is one of strength and fortitude Jack uh I often hear people say I could never do your job when people are running out of a burning building firefighters are running in while we may be Cut From a Different Cloth under the tough exterior we have big hearts and love our jobs truth be told firefighters are some of the most compassionate loving people on the planet this profession is a true calling but it's not for everyone yeah 100% I like that that wraps it up really well man and and that's the truth you know again super tough I am a very emotional person as we know yeah listen I'm not like that son of a [ __ ] yeah I'm going to edit this out for God's sakes oh yeah feelings on his sleeves folks feelings on his SLE and I've gotten better about it over the years and you know with you guys and other people at work and also people I don't respect whatsoever if you make fun of me I'm like Hey listen buddy you kick rocks I don't give a [ __ ] but I I am like I think I I'm more emotional than my wife right she is oh yeah for sure dude sometimes she's like a damn robot I'm like hey what's wrong with you she's like nothing I'm fine uhhuh uhhuh tell me what's wrong with you yeah I can't stand it man so in emotional you mean like just like just letting her know all your feelings or or you're talking about like actually like emotion like if you're angry you're crying or you're not crying let me get that TR such a tough C I'm going to Mo the yard today yeah no but I think in a sense of I would rather get the emotions out there like hey I'm mad at you for this reason I I would rather just get it over with whereas her she's like okay let me withhold this for a little bit and think about it not not and stew over it but let me think about this a little bit whereas me I'm like I'm out at you yeah right right yeah get it out there get it yeah I get it out there I get it over with and uh I think we had a me I one time with you guys yes we were I I was I was about to get married I was I was planning my own bachelor party and I was I was upset about that and it was supposed to be my my best man probably should have been doing it but he was in another state and then I forget what had happened but you guys were like what the hell's wrong with you and I was like [ __ ] plan own bachelor party you need some [ __ ] help that's right that's right yeah I called you a brazilla yeah you called me a brazilla which Hey listen yeah yeah and it was just frustrating dude yeah and I do Hey listen but you are the best planner I'm the best planner I know good he likes to do it I I know damn it and I think and I remember my dad told me that one time and he's he said listen sometimes some people are just just better at at getting people together and setting things up yeah you are all right I think that was just one time where I was like damn man it's my bachelor party which again best man out of state he was like in the reserve doing things to do but I think that's a lot of firefighters like a tough exterior but at the end of the day don't let us fool you we're good people good people with a big heart a lot of these farman like I'm so jaded it's like you're also the first guy to [ __ ] about stuff and you're the first guy to you know like say something when you're angry that makes you an emotional guy that's what you are I'm like that I know I am you know and well you're a wild card Hill yeah yeah you know don't typically I don't think we get our feelings hurt as much but I think we definitely aren't afraid to be like you know let you know yeah absolutely pisses me off fing do that you go home to your wife and you're like I got mad about this today yeah I'm going to tell yall yeah I'm going to all that's what come here for a second that's like one of my favorite things about you it's happened to me before with murf you know that within like the first you got to do it seven or eight months I was working at the department I was talking [ __ ] to Murphy you know he called me out immediately made me do like did I well it was uh it was all good fun you know cuz I was like you can't do any [ __ ] pull-ups you [ __ ] I yeah and and you like all right let's go right now and I was like oh okay cool all right about to smoke me you got to do it dude our buddy Allan he um yeah Allan told me he said man when I first got to the department you scared me nice I was like what why Allan and he's like you said something to me and then like just super straight-faced and just stared me in the eye and he was like I just want to look down at the floor there always a quiet one Allan's a good dude that's so funny to hear him say that he's a good dude but he never shows up for the damn podcast Alan I know it's your birthday lazy old [ __ ] but show up to the podcast you're supposed to be a damn editor/ engineer I got set up all these cameras myself speaking of emotional yeah yeah there you go letting Let it Fly Let it Fly that's all right but um to the list though like I think we've kind of hardened ourselves too with our job oh yeah you know cuz all the things we see yeah I think like um far as like the average Joe or whatever is probably a little bit more emotional when things happen in life death or whatever like you know we're a little bit more because we see it so much I think I'm Harden in that sense and you have to yeah that's part of that's part of the job simple stuff too like anytime I hear someone say I almost died in a car wreck my first thought is your car probably turned over and you got out like it happen like for us crawl man but at the same time for them that is nearly dying you know like flipped your car you know and like you sprained your arm or you broke your arm like like man we've seen some where like we've been like I can't believe that dude survived this you know and we're so jaded to that so like when I hear somebody I do I got to correct myself on that cuz I'm bad I'm like I want to be like shut up yeah no you didn't I've heard this story many times it you didn't almost die lady or dude you know I know you got a scrape on your arm or whatever for sure and that's that goes along the lines with like again things we see and then the average person sees they're like you know Melissa Melissa was you know in New Orleans or whatever working and someone in the hotel like him and his wife got into it or whatever and they got into like an altercation and I guess somebody got stabbed with like a butter knife or something hell yeah yeah and uh and she was kind of freaking out about it and I was like was there a lot of blood and she's like oh no I I didn't I didn't like see it or anything like what like you didn't like see a gaping like chest wound or like somebody like fileted and she's like what I was like she had a little bleeding on yeah she was like it was just kind of it was it was scary I'm like and and me I was just totally unsympathetic to it and she told me she said hey you got to be sympathetic to these things like this is see this every day this is not every day you know I didn't see a person die in a car accident like I don't see that every shift yeah I'm like um all right we see that a lot surprising yeah so you you we do become a little hardened or a little numb to things like that absolutely there's some emotion in there damn it for sure some more than others you guys really upset me by your reaction so anyway uh we are incredible this is number nine we are incredible Cooks because we do it a lot all right that's not true uh uh for some of us I think we I think I think for the most part I think gotten two St he's given two stations food poisoning uh not not not on purpose let's let's clarify one was was food poisoning present your argument yes the other was just I forgot to pour the bacon grease out you know I made I made like a dozen eggs after I had cooked like two lbs of bacon and I was like I was like you're supposed to cook eggs and bacon grease so I was like threw it in there oh man catch a burner everybody felt like [ __ ] for the of the night you coated their stomach gree breakfast for dinner too so you're going to bed just like SP spoonfuls of Crisco you know like oh my God it's animal fat it's good for you I don't yeah okay yeah some i' would say you pick up on stuff yeah you end up getting a little better yeah yeah and if you're if if you're a new guy and you're about you're going to be a firefighter just have one meal one meal you're good at pick a meal and make sure you're make sure you can make spaghetti awesome make sure you can make I don't know chicken alfredo roast beef awesome yeah sberry steak awesome just have hamburgers just have one meal that you're good at that's all we ask yeah have something don't don't show up and be like I don't I'm not a cook I'm not a cook like hey man we all do our part around the station we all we all cook like man there's one guy shout out to Old B Toady dude he's yeah he's a rot tons little fella he's he's a little portly but man he we love the guy we love him to death he can whip up some homemade chicken alfredo oh dude it'll blow your tits off man it's so good man it's got like goat cheese on it a homemade like white wine sauce a reduction he has like a a lemon sauce that's the white wine sauce I'll meet him out in the parking lot I'm like we doing chicken alfredo today I'll he's like I haven't even got out the car yet he even gets those special new noodles you know yeah he does the world I see his little husky self shuffling across the parking lot I'm like peeking through the blinds I'm like Chicken al yeah yeah speaking of being a chubster dude I rode the med unit last night and what is it about being on the med unit about being on the old meat wagon dude calories don't count you eat 10,000 calories yeah dude you you understand it now like you like when you when you it and then you're like I understand what it's like being a medic now like this is terrible one of the other this is why I look the way I do is that good Soul Man it goes down so easy one of the other Medics we were we were at the hospital and uh they were like hey I'm selling baseball candy I'm like hello and uh let's see how much money I have yeah and I was like you got change for a 20 and she's like no you know I only have a 10 I'm like okay I'll take 10 boxes give you serious dude before we even left the parking lot I crushed three boxes oh my God yeah and the hospital I'm like let me hit up this snack room cookies give me some Annie ANS oatmeal cookies or whatever youat you eat your feelings on that thing for sure man you're just having a bad day on that thing and then 10,000 calories later you're like what have I done with myself yeah after you ask that question you're like I'm going to go get another stashed another cookie and we've talked about this before me and merad it doesn't matter how full you are there's always a little room for dessert always always like I have a different stomach for dessert there's a whole there's a whole another stomach for that I could be stck to the brim and I'm like I'm like let's let's say this and then somebody brings out a cake I'm like H I would beat anyone in an eating competition man with desserts though our captain Takes the Cake on ad this is true I've seen himing of chubsters I've seen him make like two bowlfuls of ice cream like what hey we all want some that guy can put away some food he put away some ice cream and by the way he's like super crazy in shape I think he went to the uh what was the craziest thing i' ever heard he went and did his physical yeah oh yeah his heart rate was like 30 yeah in the 30s it was the same as a a tortoise yeah hey man the doctor was like are you all right yeah and he's like you know standing there shredded as [ __ ] and I'm good I'm good I'd never tell him this to his face but he's in great shape oh yeah never tell him his face he's really actually super heavy and fat but yeah no he's no but I like when you call him out every time he like eats every time he's eat you're like oh what are you doing over there chubs and he hates it he it because I'm like like I look like a slob that day he's like shut up insult to injury a so his heart rate was like 30 or 32 37 37 okay toris is is 25 it's it was so nuts he's almost there I think the doctor was like Hey listen we got to take you in yeah yeah we're going to study you for a while yeah he's that in shape that his heart just barely beaten I think he worked out like twice yesterday yeah cuz I called him out I was like are you going to work cuz I worked out on the med unit he's like I was calling him out said are you going to work out he's like I already worked out once and I'm about to work out again oh okay and he's in his 40s he is yeah yeah again i' never tell him in his face but he's in great shape you want a guy like that yeah so uh here's another one that last one was just to cover it incredible Cooks some of us yes if you're like hollan you've given two stations food boys and their stach with pork laxative so uh this this is a good one we don't fight much fire uh is true at our department though it seems like it seems a little bit higher than the average I think I think what part of um our city you live in yeah so like ours where we live like we're in the South End which you know or where we work yeah yeah where we work in the city we're going to make a lot more fires than the Northend there's a lot of abandoned houses and homeless people get in there in the winter time and set up some type of heating system whether it be cardboard boxes or burning or something don't tell the north Ed guys they you don't make more I'd like to see the average though you know our numbers are got to be higher see those numbers man it's probably closer to the same I would get if I had to really guess you sure but we still make more absolutely and we know what we're doing scre those North guys dude we're so much cooler than the North End guys yeah are barely firemen yeah but honestly well there going to be some fired up firemen next year we'll get a lot of yeah if you're a North End guy comment on the podcast comment on the YouTube we'll roast you and then you know comment back if you want roast us if you want please but yeah that that I mean that's a good one man most of our calls I think it's like 80% 70 it's a crazy percentage but it's it's a lot of medical calls these days right so yeah yeah and man fires we don't want anybody to get hurt but we love a good fire absolutely we get to do our job our bread and butter what we were trained for it's your adrenaline's pumping you're pulling a line you're pumping you're kicking doors in you're you're you're fighting a fire it's what we're trained for so we love a good fire we don't want anybody to get hurt of course but it's it's the one insurance policy you have where like when the problem occurs someone's ready to take care of it no doubt you call call in and your your house is on fire I mean in our our city I mean we're going to be there quick like quick fast in a hurry within a a minute pretty much you're going to have a firet truck at your house like busting down the door like trying to get in there and like put it out as quickly as possible protecting their property same time absolutely man we do our best yeah there's one thing that I hear over the radio and it's multiple calls you're like yeah it's game time your blood pressure your your heart rate is go yeah you hear that on the way to the fire they're like we've had multiple calls on this fire you're like Ms it's going to be a burner how about this one they send you to something like an investigation and then well two minutes or like maybe a minute and a half going you hear the fire tones and you're like oh yeah oh [ __ ] that's the best dude that's the best cuz you're smoking everybody else there you're like we did it all yeah if you got the time glad y'all could show up finally got here to do some work boys you're strutting around the front yard a huge bulge pants boys see we got care we totally kicked ass before you guys right it was just a mattress oh I didn't see you over there did over a thousand awesome all right number seven rookies must prove themselves it is not hazing we talked about this on the last episode uh shout out to uh firefighter pet peeves rookies hey it is what it is man you're going to get you're going to get a couple of Jabs here and there yeah for sure that's the name of the game man that is part of it we're good at it if you get somebody like me I've been doing it for I've made a career out of roasting people yeah you got roasted your whole life absolutely hey I turned it into a trade I should be getting paid for this proba the best subscribe to the channel for God's sakes I'll roast you I think you're probably the best at it thank you I appreciate that yeah need to give me a trophy makes me laugh anyways it does it does but ultimate rooster yeah and this is so I'll read a little bit of this one but just because a young firefighter makes it through the Academy and accomplish accomplishes this R of Passage more testing of grit is required many still believe the criticism of young firefighters helps test the grit of young firefighters this is often misunderstood as as hazing I must note there's a fine line between testing a person's grit and illegally hazing someone for the fun of it absolutely like we're never going to we're never going to cross that line no we are going to jab you and roast you a little bit right and if you screw up we're calling you out but I mean that goes for all of us though we're dude that doesn't stop that I mean we roast him every day course and I'm not even messing up it's just it's just fun we're going to roast you and we're going to train you and then we're going to move forward and if you do it again that's when it becomes a problem but yep I mean that's the name of the game dude me and murf were in the military dude oh man you talk about professional roers I was in for eight and a half years I think I got Serge oh wow yeah they were there were days where you were so pissed off you're like dude so mad emotions on his sleeves man I I I don't dude I've always been that way though it was tough some days man it was so tough cuz people were again great at it these guys have been in the military for 10 years and they're like look at this [ __ ] new guy oh man as soon as you walk in made boot camp yeah they don't give soon as you walk in the door what you know what's so funny about that it seems to be uh like I didn't catch on to it I I I'm I get roasted by you guys and I'm just not good I can't fire back man I don't know how I try I'll win sometimes but it's not like like you know Captain roast over here every now and then you throw a quick jab in I'm like not too bad not too bad 99% of the time I'm like you're like that didn't make sense yeah okay yeah it's like that's and then you roast me even harder I'm like [ __ ] you're like man damn it got to start writing these down quit doing this in front of the new guys dude I'm making I'm making fun of you you pull a Post-It note out of here back punk oh yeah well well you used to be fat like okay we know discuss it on the internet we know yeah nuh tur sandwich so okay I want to say something about The Hazing thing all right it's okay to Haze it's like like not like a mean way but like there's there's an illegal hazing as a podcast we do not support this man's saying that I'm strapping you to a chair and like you know water boarding water it didn't not since I've been here if it did oh well but you know even even then it's like look if you leave your rookie book or your your your your shirt out your shirt out don't be surprised if you show up and it's in the freezer you know Frozen or your rookie book is T fun mean fun yeah if you get your FS Hur by the at man you need to quit like now another job you got to get you got to get uh find a job work working from home yeah cuz you can't do any other I'm telling you like the fire department has eyes on it so we can't do it as much there's other jobs out there where they don't give a [ __ ] and there is hazing dude you're a pipeline worker and they're like haha your sister's in a wheelchair like geez what the hell man yeah like I'm going to call HR they're like call them I'll beat your ass like whoa yeah no that's not the the phone Dr behind me get to it he's got six teardrop tattoos like I'm we got it easy you know I'm gonna go work at HB again this isn't worth the money pushing carts wasn't bad just crying on your way home these guys keep calling my mom a [ __ ] yeah dude I'm out no we never no we never cross that line and you know no we just pick and Jab and pick and Jab and we and we continue to do it throughout our entire career to each other yeah to each other and it's fun and it kind of It kind of ties into number six we use humor to cope with the difficult things we see all day long 100% man it makes us that that's why this podcast is so great for like mental healthwise oh yeah cuz it just it's such a fun thing to do and and it's offloading and it's just offloading like last episode again we did firefighter pet peeves like we love the [ __ ] out of our job but we're just like offloading these these things minor small stuff minor small things we see every shift and and yeah 100% yeah humor is the best medicine an outsider might find this callous and inappropriate it is not meant to be if you had visited Firehouse lately you will recall we smile a lot some of some of the funniest people I know are fellow brothers and sisters coping is coping with difficult things is taxing on the psyche and one of the best ways to cope is to make light of a situation through humor and storytelling 100% dude welcome to the podcast subscribe to the YouTube but yeah hey like share subscribe yeah it's the best man and that's I mean that's all fir the things we joke about though sometimes can be dark yeah dude you got to watch it when you go to Family yeah you go to Family Reunion yeah I think you had a story right that was kind pretty much like that you said something like I'll let you tell your story no I think I I remember something that you told us uh one time and I was like I think I I've been at like a a family like a dinner or something like that whenever I first met my wife and I was telling a story I was like gu kind brains were everywhere and stuff it was kind of crazy and they're like was he okay I'm like okay he's dead like we put it back together fine now yeah like Lego pieces we're basically doctors I didn't tell you it looked like we gutted a deer in that car like it and they were just like I think I'm good sit down yeah yeah and I like oh hey you always got the guy who's like what's your worst call I hate that don't ask me do not a PSA yeah Public Service don't ask a firefighter a military veteran or a police officer what their worst what's the worst thing you ever seen brother I'm like you don't want to know yeah don't well even that like d don't like even if I don't care ask me what the funniest thing I've ever seen ask me something like that like that's funny I like talking about stuff that's fun to talk about I want to talk about sad [ __ ] U this is not that kind of podcast no ask me hey what's the what's the funniest call you've ever been on I'm like boy do I have yeah yeah let me get my journal C open one of those journals over there dude we'll to one day we'll just have to reach up and grab one of those there's no no the sad journal's in the other room we won't bust out that one we're going to do a solo episode where we just [ __ ] let's go to high school baby grab one high school go to high school yeah grab a journal grab a journal for God's sakes okay yeah's see there you go you got one grab the coolest looking one that whiskey bottle drops that have a wizard on it he got a wizard on it yeah there's no do you want to thumb through it what a nerd yeah you want me to thumb through it you can thumb through it let me let me go yeah you thumb through it I I'll cover one while you're while you're Thumb in yeah let me see if I can find something and then you uh see what you got and there's no telling what's in scheduled massage hello yeah that's the one that got shut down by PD right this is a legit massage parlor damn it so uh this is a good when we love our oh God it's called happyendings I think right no no no no listen another PS say if a massage parlor says it's 24 hours and it's got a neon sign in the window do not go there it's a reputable place there cameras there are cameras and PD is going to bust you do not go there yeah so speaking of PD we love our cop brothers and sisters yeah I love look there's things I'm sure that piss you know everybody off on the other side Mur you got one uh we'll put a pen in this if you got one no no no no keep going keep going okay we love our cop brothers and sisters hey shout out to them man those guys they're awesome they don't want to do our job and I guarantee we don't want to do their job no no one and the same though you know yeah absolutely dude we they call us we call them we rely on them we we of course again are going to roast them oh yeah we have to dude of course we have to of course yeah I'm just reading like uh one of your days you got moved from Station 14 Y and then Davis showed up late at 11: nice move back to station 11 at 5 a.m. oh that's a horrible day for people that don't know when you get kicked out of your own station it's a real bummer yeah you just get get moved around all the time in the middle of your shift and at night yeah at night time man night time one stink usually someone goes home sick you know and you got to go fill in I mean hey hey shout out to these cops man for for helping us out and and and being there whenever we need them and yeah again de with [ __ ] we don't want to [ __ ] yeah there's always there's always a bit of it's so funny man and again you see these memes about like these these cops they're like well you can either go with the fire department or you can go with us and we're in the background like go with the cops go with the cops go with cops Go Cops go the cops go to the cops I don't want to do the report go with the cops yeah yeah dude here here I got one here we go so uh I was there that day okay it was uh me you and Rusty okay and uh anyway we had grass fires yep and crazy pit bull yep um yep a uh a lady was yelling um falling on us and then the chief was talking too much oh man dude little jab what was that I don't know what was that fire alarm did hollan set off the smoke alarm here pass this down hey I think the GoPro died oh did the GoPro really die I think so oh no way sorry about that uh we'll just edit this that that whole little section out that's fine we'll see what we can do if anything we'll keep it going hey welcome to the podcast man everybody freak out everybody freak out oh dude that's that's one thing about like this whole podcasting thing man all of the video and audio stuff it's it's so wild yeah and be you know I used to think like man why you know if you're watching a podcast and there's something that you like why did they edit that it's like you know there's probably something very technical and you know now I get to see why oh yeah we got four cameras yeah there's four yeah yeah three cameras and a GoPro getting the wide angle shot and then yeah it's a lot so back to the list yeah PD hey those guys are red man shout out to them for hey sometimes sometimes they jump in where we're like hey I don't have a gun or a night stick or mace or anything or body armor or body armor you guys jump in there man uh yeah they can have it yeah that's all you guys I'm good this is a pretty good one this is number three we got being away from our families is sometimes a welcome break yeah I mean I got to listen I got a new baby nice I I think I just heard him crying in the background did yeah I I think so man that I think I I was off for about a month yeah so that's on my list yeah that's on my list love them to death man yeah sometimes go into go into the station and and it's a it's a welcome break you're like hell yeah even though that you might be working all you know even if it's a busy shift like you're still glad to be there yeah oh yeah there hasn't been a day that's gone by where I've show even when I'm on the med unit where I'm like I still I still like my the ritual of being there yeah yeah yeah no doubt oh yeah they're like I'm all right this is this is fun and I know that it's not like that for every job because I've had other jobs and I know I not feel that same way yeah at all and the article says Yep this is a tough one for our spouses and our families to hear but is it is the truth what I think is more important uh what I think is important to say here is fire is as firefighters we need to make sure we balance this and allow our wives SL husbands the the same opportunity to take a break from the grind to family challenges so yeah yeah I mean hey you're we're away we're away for 24 hours you got to let your you got to help your wife I'll be like hey I got the kids today you know you go do your thing whatever right which is tough after a long shift part of it though dude you get your ass kicked at night like for 24 hours and then you got to come home but hey that's the name of the game yeah the next day take a breather man sacrifice of having a good job you love which is I would say if you love your job it makes being happy at home a little bit easier too you know when you like your job you know imagine being miserable at your job and come home with that like at least I get to go to a job I love you know yeah no doubt absolutely there is a benefit to that I think hollan let's let's throw before we're done with this list let's throw one of yours in you got a you got a good one I do have a good one and I think uh I think this is probably more true for our generation of firefighters is I wrote down and this is kind of like roping a lot of different things in but uh we aren't all skilled in like construction fixing things I think for the most part and I think that's like a common misconception for people it's like oh firemen are all super handy well no no no this got can measure good usually there's like one guy who's good with construction and then there's another guy who knows like I did irrigation so I I could I could do that and what happens is I think because of how our our schedule is we don't have a 9 to-5 job so we can go to work and if we have like something with our water heater you know I know I call Murphy and be like hey man have you ever worked on a water can you walk me through this i' I've looked it up online or whatever and then you become a little bit more handy over the years just working on stuff and that's where you get that idea like oh all firment pretty good at working on was like yeah we have the time to and also a lot of the guys that come in the fire department came from another career field yeah they were Tradesman Tradesman before they got there so we're not all like like when we show up like I didn't know [ __ ] I didn't know anything about construction you know I didn't know anything about Plumbing people have this brand new tankless hot water heater and they're like it it's it's making this weird noise I'm like he listen don't ask me let me call your Tech call Google this real quick uhoh uhoh there it goes again there goes GoPro again [ __ ] that's all right we're good we're good keep it rolling you you two uh uh cover keep covering keep going keep going what you got so um this is something to hit on uh which I'm not knocking this at all or whatever but I think it's something that uh people think that like we enjoy doing okay but MDA oh yeah so I think we've we've we've talked about this for and I think a lot of people don't understand but for the public out there it's uh Fill the Boot everybody sees a fireman out there fill in the boot and what they what you a lot of people don't understand is that money that you give us it's not for us no not that I would want it anyway because the hardest part for me is feeling like I'm begging for money and like um and I want to explain to the people like as much as possible whenever they like start giving me money to throw in my boot I'm like hey look this isn't for me yeah this is going to go to MDA you know this isn't for the city this is not that's not what it's for this is for a charitable donation to a organ muscular distrophy Association So like um as much as I love the calls and I love like you know helping out I don't want them like the misconception of like you know that that me being a fireman out there like begging for money like hey this is so we can get a new TV at the station no no no that's not how it works like this this this money is going for some for a good cause yeah but do you think that most people think that whenever they're donating money oh yeah so every time every time they come over they're always like hey y'all get yourself dinner you know get yourself a new fire truck here's your money for pizza tonight get some new tires on that fire engine looks like y'all need new boots anyway here we can't take that money anyways even this isn't for me I try to explain it to them but we're we're in the street they're at a red light you know they're trying to give me money I I don't like that whole beggar aspect of it you know like well you know I think most guys are like that too you know uh because you don't have the time like you said to stop you know they're in traffic can't you can't stop and explain this to every single person that's giving money I'm just handing them a sticker letting them throw their money in but I wish they really knew like what they're what they're given to you know you know maybe that's the benefit of like back in the day before you had internet where people all watched the news to then you know you put a PSA out like hey look this week you're going to see the fire department out with boots they're they're trying to get donations for this there is not for the city so miss the good old days yeah it would it would be cool maybe then you know how we get Amber Alerts we could like get something going with the fire department like hey today's the donation for whatever so if you're on on the street you know people know that's a good one man good idea yeah hey the news tell everybody yeah this is for muscular distopy Association yeah and honestly like if we could somebody brought this up the other day a captain that worked overtime with us and he was talk we were talking about MDA and you know if we could like have a p like Hey we're doing MDA for Sarah we're sending Sarah to a camp MDA camp like we're raising have a picture of her like hey this is for Sarah this is not for us and then I love that as a department like we're sponsoring this person people are like oh [ __ ] the fire department's like they're doing MDA but it's for a specific person rather than just like this money's going to MDA which MDA is a great charity and helps out a lot of kids but it would be M I think it would let people know like hey this is for a specific reason they're like oh [ __ ] they're not trying to buy new boots they're not trying to buy new uh new axes you could get like a rookie out there in a costume spinning oh like the tax guy yeah oh man that'd be hilarious it's not hazing not hazing I you're up here is it me up you're up brother oh man okay this is uh things on our days off after we've had a long shift I just want to be left alone we want to be left alone dude and this is more of like for our families and things like that you know like oh how was your shift like I don't want to talk about it right just yeah on your bad days on your bad days you had a horrible shift you had a long a long ass 24-hour shift man and you're just like I'm out today man I'm checking out today check out I'm checking out I want to do my own thing leave me alone let me sleep let me sleep let me yeah let me go to the gym let me just veg out on the couch let me just watch podcast in my in my office y yep I'm out man and I think that's a that's a huge deal for us like we we need that mental break I've been on I've been on for 24 hours like I need a breather I need a break I want I want to switch it off yeah right turn the switch off man yeah my wife does good about that yeah you know she knows the bad days you know from the good days she could probably tell from like the first five minutes I walking in the door like how my personality is yeah if I had a good shift or a bad shift oh they know how your eyes look are they really right which dude these nurses murf's wife is a nurse these nurses have some bad days to be yes they do I saw at at 3 3:00 this morning I was dropping a patient off and the nurse that I was turning over to was literally on the table like this oh poor thing and I walked in there and I was just like and she goes I'm listening it was in triage she could hear and she goes I'm listening and she and she finally parked up and she and I was like yeah you know I said hey I don't want to be here either man trust me I said this this call came in and woke me up and she said well I've been been up since 6:00 a.m. and I haven't been to sleep yet I was like o sorry I said I don't want be here let me turn this patient over to you yeah well anyways have a good day well anyways I'm going to go back to bed I'm going to take my bad day and I'm going to hand it to you and it's your problem now tradeoff it's a trade-off man and those hey the the healthcare industry shout out to everybody in it right now it it is it's a lot it's over it's overwhelmed it's overworked it's overburdened whatever terminology you want to use for it there's employment's down employment's down really killing us yeah the nurses aren't as hot as they used to what are you all doing tight up for we're all the sorority girls yeah no shout out to him man as a as a whole like it is it's a the system is overburdened yeah we going to figure something Nationwide somebody's going to figure something out man no doubt pay more this list kind of turns into a I mean that's that's always a good answer or lower your standards which I don't think the general public wants that no this list really turns into a bummer at the end uh yeah alcohol and substance or abuse are still a problem in the fire service like everywhere else it's not Hey listen you know if you like to have a drink you like to have a drink but if it becomes a problem contact somebody you know there's numbers out there there's people to call there's peer support groups and places like that give give somebody a call I don't care where you go or what job you do there's somebody everyone has an office drunk yep that's just like yeah needs to go get checked out you know whether you're mowing yards at the grocery store you're at Walmart yeah every somebody's like hey dude you need to probably get that figured out every place has them man uh you're not 18 anymore brother you're 42 but hey yeah call somebody for God's sakes call somebody yeah there's plenty of outlets out there get get help if you need help yeah yeah uh hollan what you got uh let's see we're wrapping it up on time let me pick one uh Pi a good one okay how about this one most firemen like I I I think people have this idea that we're all professional firemen sure but you know as the United States is concerned the majority of firemen that you know would make up if you if you counted everybody up sure it's like overwhelmingly volunteer mhm and oh yeah no yeah that's that's legit like most most people that are firemen or would consider themselves a fireman are not professional they're not certified working for a professional fire department but and I might have that a little woods fireman we call I might I might have that a little twisted like there's more perect there's more check this is this is a real thing there's more volunteer fire departments than there are professional fire departments United States yeah yeah so you know for folks out there that don't know if you live in a small town you probably have that's you probably have a volunteer fire department and God bless the people that are doing that but there is a difference you know and you know they are a necessity but the difference is is like the the you know the regular day-to-day at your job right for us is firefighting whereas at a volunteer station you may have one or two guys that are there frequently and the rest of the people that show up are just volunteer hours which they need you know they have to operate but it's not the same you know like they're not used to there for 24 hours at a time yeah it's just different every three days yeah yeah and I think that's something the general public just doesn't know yeah that yeah you know most people aren't shredded professional Jesus sure they're not murf what do you got yeah um well I mean the the the main one you that uh you said earlier was that they we like a break from home yeah um and uh and just for me uh oh there it goes again so apparently yeah folks we're having a lot of technical difficulties yeah we apologize the GoPro the GoPro is uh is getting too hot it's never happened before so that's interesting so we we blame hen no we apologize for the GoPro messing up we'll be on the single camera stuff for a while hey uh freaking subscribe to the channel one and then tell us what the hell's going on with this thing yeah absolutely yeah damn it oh that's going to be fun editing so anyway uh M where were you anyway I was just saying that like uh our breaks from home is just us coming to the station hanging out with each other even though we could have the busiest shift ever you know just having that time as much as we love our family and we love being home with our family you know something about like going there and just like all your problems that you having at home or whatever like they are all your to-do list and everything it's just like gone away for 24 hours exactly you know like the the guy who has the 9 to5 and he when he gets home at 5:00 he still has to worry about that to-do list you know for me like you know gone for 24 hours is just such a like a yeah you know and then you get time you have a decent amount of time to take care of something that was waiting on you if you got it and I miss my family as soon as I'm there I'm might I mean you know you could ask these guys like I'm constantly calling my family and talking to them on the phone dude murf's wife calls us jams us up more we're trying to have fun and pal around and have a good time at the station and murf's wife just calls us she's like hey what are you doing usually on face usually face FaceTime 45 minutes later murf's back in the station dude she's usually making she's usually making fun of Hing yeah yeah yeah we yeah she's popped up a couple times on the podcast mainly for good stuff I meant to text her yesterday I was like hey we were doing you know uh most annoying things about women and you know you you I don't know why you popped up a couple times on the Pod oh that's pretty good oh man so I mean I think that basically covers all covers covers the whole Gambit man we like to be left alone we need those days off uh different ways of coping with work those were all mine which we we pretty much covered with everything uh let's see getting away for our family is good love cops say we hate begging for money on the filth of boot campaign yep that's yeah it makes yeah it's a great charity but Hey listen it makes us people yeah people interpret it the wrong way yeah use humor to cope with difficult things rookies have to prove themselves we don't fight much fire incredible Cooks no under a tough exterior soft underbellies I mean that's pretty much the whole Gambit folks and to the firefighters out there if we miss something something top 10 things firefighters don't want you to know that was a list so if we miss something I'm sure there's a lot out there yeah give us a comment and subscribe to the channel that's the main thing that helps us out we love doing this we having a blast subscribe to the channel that's the number one thing that helps us out hollan what you got for him oh we love doing this man I I want to always say that I need to be better about it but we really do like we look forward to coming in here the morning of and abely get to do this and it makes me a little happier when I when I see the audience kind of growing like hey you know like people actually like this you people are seeing organic you know firemen like when we're not in uniform and how we really are which is kind of cool to me yeah like when a nobody like comes up to you you or like someone that you don't know uh just comes up not nobody but nobody but like they they come up to you and they're like like hey man I've been watching your podcast I love it you know I'm like oh that's awesome wow I just thought we were just sing that that out to the cloud somewhere e man that damn algorithm YouTube I got a I got something YouTube we love you we got no beef with you whatsoever praise YouTube but anyway uh folks again subscribe to the channel that's the number one thing that helps us out we're trying to grow the subscribers send it to a friend send it to a family member don't send it to your grandma they tend to get pretty upset by
