Still remember picking up FE7 on GBA after playing Roy for hours in Smash Bros Melee. Kinda glad cause I was quite young and probably wouldn't have picked the game up otherwise. Was hooked from the second I started it up and its now one of my favourite game series. Funny given how Sakurai wasn't sure about putting Marth and Roy in Melee for western audiences!
I can't really see any justification for getting cross over Awakening's casual mode. Personally, I think permadeath makes sense in tactics games with shorter campaigns like XCOM, but getting screwed over by RNG in a long game like Fire Emblem made it way more stressful than fun.
You can still just play on the classic mode if you prefer the high level of tension from it. The knowledge that people not good at the genre will also be able to enjoy the game really shouldn't ruin the experience for you.
Advance Wars sold well and spurred more Fire Emblem games, but no more Advance Wars games after the 2 DS ones?
Can someone tell this guy to slow down? Words are all jumbled, jeez.
Seeing those screenshots of Fire Emblem 64 really makes me sad that it was scrapped. I feel like it could've turned out really good, and experimenting with it could've had an influence on the titles coming afterwards. Never thought about the Marth-Mars connection either. The difficulty shenanigans are kinda funny, too.
I personally liked this episode, a lot of stuff I didn't know or never bother to look up.
Also, shoutout to /r/fireemblem, with the related discussion.
The only thing I don't like about Awakening was that it stopped being about strategy and more about eugenics, shipping and god-like-galeforce children. I mean in the previous games I didn't care much about supports beyond my favorite characters (Ike/Soren for example), but I felt it was required to do anything difficult in Awakening.
Otherwise great game. If you can't tell, my favorite game is Path of Radiance (one of my top 5 games of all time).
If I were to play only 1 fire emblem game, what do you think it should be?
I hate to keep saying it, but I never played a Fire Emblem, i played an emulation of Der Langrisser. It has the same kind of features, and I played the hell out of it since I didn't know what Fire Emblem was (or have a nintendo system other then a GBA and DS. I still want the 3DS game but just havn't picked it up, I'm a fan of the gameplay.
If Fire Emblem interests you guys and gals, you ought to know that we've got a subreddit dedicated to the series located at /r/fireemblem! If you want further FE-specific information, that's the place to go. We've even got a fairly large FAQ available for people who are new to the series.
