[Music] i know this may come as a surprise but i think fire bending is the most versatile bending element oh what you think it's all just piping hot flame black actually no there are so many different fire bending techniques that a firebender can use in any given situation but it's hard to pick the best one today we're ranking all the different fire bending techniques to see which one is the absolute best so get fired up because we're getting started right now whatever you do don't ask uncle ira for a demonstration about how he became the dragon of the west it won't go well for you breathing fire is one of those surprise fire bending abilities that you don't expect what do you think a water bender will start spitting water an earthbender to cough up some gravel an airbender to hmm okay airbenders can blow air but fire is a bit of a surprise and it's pretty useful for both an attack and for a type of defense it certainly knows how to catch a room of people off guard like when iro did it which is impressive but also keep in mind that the fire breath can be used to warm your insides in cold situations as well there's that awesome scene in the boiling rock episode when zuko is in the cooler and he uses his fire bending to keep himself warm given that not every firebender who goes in there seems to do that we can surmise that this is a bit of a rare technique it's only ranked at the bottom because breathing fire makes it feel like you just chewed a stick of cinnamon gum and no one likes cinnamon gum when zuko and aang go to the sun warriors they're put in a position to go meet the fire bending masters as they walk and the sun warriors start to chant and somehow start playing the avatar the last airbender and credit song a few sun warriors make a symbolic circles with their flames now this technique is ranked pretty low for a few reasons mostly though it's because it looks like a symbolic gesture they just kind of create these circles and then do nothing with them it's probably the last of fire bending technique you'd want to use in an actual fight though because it leaves a lot to be desired can you imagine fighting an earthbender in you about your handy-dandy fire circle and that leaves your whole body and face exposed for a rock pummeling yeah i don't think so feels like more of a party trick than a viable fire bending technique this is probably the most straightforward fire bending move and it lacks a lot of creativity hence its inclusion near the bottom of this list a firebender has the ability to just shoot a continuous stream of fire out of their hands like take a look at how those firebenders and ozai utterly mowed down everything by just standing on airships and shooting fire down on the ground while the ships move them forward but yes that was because of susan's comment that they were able to do that but still the ability to shoot a continuous stream from your hands is pretty impressive especially when compared to the other elements like waterbenders and earthbenders can't just stand there and shoot water and earth out of their fingertips no they need something to draw from it's a great advantage for firebenders and now let's take a minute to once again mention that night shyamalan's the last airbender movie made firebenders need a source to pull from which is just so stupid ended ah the classic fireball nothing quite beats it it's straightforward and effective if you're a firebender facing an enemy probably the first thing you're gonna do is shoot a fireball at them watching a lot of avatar the fireballs are never finishing moves most firebenders will fight for a bit and then finish things off with an epic blast or something really creative but more credit should be given to the fireball a master firebender can be constantly dodging ducking and diving while shooting fireballs at their opponent to keep them off guard long enough to do an ultimate finishing move and what i like about the fireball is how it evolved in the last airbender fireballs were these pretty big attacks while in legend of korra fighting became much more focused on close combat so the fireballs came quicker and smaller but still pretty effective i think the motto should always be when in doubt and use a fireball in my eyes the fire pinwheel is awesome but was only used like one time come on azula you're better than that in season two when aang's gang returns to a monster to see if boomi could fit in some earth-bending training in between his rock candy eating sessions obviously things don't go according to plan they run into azula and an epic fight takes place on omashi roller coasters i mean the omashu very official travel ducks anyways while azula is chasing aang she creates a fire pinwheel and shoots it at the avatar that's pretty cool it really showed how creative azula could be with her bending and why in those early days she was much better than zuko ever was the pinwheel is a deadly technique because it seems slightly harder to stop than your normal fireball or fire blast i mean if you see a spinning fire wheel of doom heading your way it might cause you a bit of pause right alright i know they're not super effective but fire daggers are just so cool looking they're like little miniature lightsabers brought to life in the avatar world how neat is that we first saw zuko whip out a pair of fire daggers in one of his first fights with azula after the princess tried to capture zuko and iro and then one stupid guard blew her cover zuko ignites his fire daggers and tries to slice up a zula with no result and while they look cool it does beg the question what happened if zuko was successful in his attack if he connected his fire daggers with azula what would have happened would they slice through azula's body would they have dissolved on contact come on zuko if only you were a better hand to hand fighter then we could have had an answer to this question fire bending isn't necessarily known for being a defensive type of bending it's aggressive and rooted in attacking the enemy to keep them off balance johnny lawrence from cobra kai probably would love to be a firebender because it kicks butt with a solid offense but that doesn't mean there aren't some defensive moves as well that's where the fire shield comes into play both zuko and azula have used their fire bending to create a protective cocoon around themselves that helps block enemy bending the best example used would be azula when she first used her fire shield to block against a group attack by aang katara toff and zuko and when you think about the logistics of that it's seriously impressive i guess if you're a strong firebender your bending is powerful enough to deflect other bending abilities that makes firebending an impressive offensive and defensive bending style no wonder they took over the world i believe one of the coolest moves in all of bending is the ability to redirect another person's attack and that's immediately more impressive for firebenders sure all other benders can redirect attacks of their own bending meaning toff could catch and throw back a rock that was thrown at her katara could catch water that's coming her way and and could redirect any air attacks if there was an airbender alive at that time to throw air at him but when firebenders like zuko do it it's something to be admired we're told a lot in avatar that fire is the only element that's truly alive and therefore the most dangerous and hardest to control so a firebender has to be a highly skilled one in order to not only block an incoming fire attack but also have the mental fortitude to take that attack redirect it and shoot it back to their enemy in one smooth motion if they aren't careful they'd probably lose control relatively quickly i've already harped on the last airbender live-action movie once and maybe that's enough what is this ah who am i kidding that movie deserves all the trash that's heaped onto it because i previously mentioned how awful it was that the firebenders in that movie needed a power source to draw from but on top of being dumb it also inhibits one of their cooler abilities from the show fire augmentation besides just producing flames firebenders can control the size and intensity of nearby flames people like zhongzhang have used this to great effect when he's trying to scare the people around him but it's also a great training exercise in the sun warriors episode zuko and ang are given flames that they have to foster and keep alive without overdoing over a long period of time it was a great mental exercise to help aang and zuko learn how to firebend properly now we're getting to some techniques with a bit more oomph to them a bit more firepower some would say not i of course because i never make a terrible pun like that anyways let's talk about fire missiles this is basically an advanced form of fireballs just with more power behind them in the ozai aang showdown aang is on the ropes for an extremely long time but then ozai's so nicely blasts aang into a rock wall and aang lands perfectly on that sharp point that hits his wound and unlocks his avatar state then oza is just no match for the avatar's raw power and there's one really interesting fire bending move in here as ozai tries desperately to flee and aang does his spinny all four elements ball thing he shoots fire blasts at ozai that basically track him as he tries to dodge this isn't just some regular fire blast it's more of a fire missile that's locked onto ozai and won't let him get away and i'm gonna go ahead and say this is one of those special avatar moves that any firebender would have trouble replicating out of all the singular weapons you can make with firebending i think the most awesome are the fire whips i mean come on you can't call yourself a firebender until you bust out the fire whips forget boring old fireballs instead make a pair of whips that you can use to strike your enemies in this wild and wacky technique like how do fire whips even function water whips are a little more understandable but because fire is this naturally a living thing that wants to spread and move in all directions it's really impressive to see firebenders being able to harness those flames enough to create a whip-like weapon zuko busts these out in his a tragic betrayal underneath bossing say and all i can think about is how i wish he would have pulled an epic get over here from mortal kombat and yanked aang closer to him when in rome right now you would think airbenders are the only graceful benders powerful enough to fly through the air but actually a skilled firebender can fly pretty easily and there are actually a few ways to do it i'll talk about more of the precise one in this entry it's called jet stepping and it basically allows a firebender to scale buildings or even run faster just by shooting small flame bursts from their feet if a powerful enough firebender was able to master this then they'd be almost untouchable although this isn't necessarily a feat highlighted that much in the avatar show it does feature in the kiyoshi novel so check those out if you haven't already okay let's be honest how do we feel about avatar roku i'm always torn on the guy yes he's this wise sage who helps guide aang in his moment of need but even roku has admitted he was a little foolish in his life especially when it came to his buddy sozen it's my wedding have a cookie he turned a blind eye and that helped to suzan sop up power and be able to take over and roku ended up having an epic and tragic death when he had to go up against the raw power of an exploding volcano and it's in this scene that a really special fire bending technique shows itself and that's heat control there were instances where roku was trying to fire bend the smog away from the lava to help cool the volcano down which asks the question could a firebender take the heat out of someone else's body if they tried really hard enough i talked about a flame shield earlier but that's child's play compared to an impenetrable flame wall this is probably only one of those attacks that can be used successfully during sozen's comet so if you're a firebender just be on the lookout for that okay the best example of this is zhongzhang during the battle of bossing say with his powers amplified he makes massive walls of flames that block all of the earth city's attacks and give them a superior defense in almost every conceivable way man zhang really likes to make walls of flames doesn't he what a show-off but i guess the real question would be what would be more powerful a flame attack or a flame wall what beats what it's hard to tell i talked about jet stepping earlier but now let's go with something more powerful jet propulsion when we first saw azula use this technique it was jaw dropping the sheer power of watching azula blast off like a rocket ship headed to mars completely changed the game and it made her an even more intimidating fighting force to be reckoned with it just looks like it has a raw power to it that makes it difficult to control would it be easier for an everyday firebender to jet propulse like this and really how unfair was that move come on firebenders you already have such cool stuff you're seriously going to take flying as your own as well sometimes you just want an attack that goes boom and if you're a powerful firebender you have that power unlike any other bender a really powerful firebender has the ability to charge up what in essence is a firebomb think about it that's an ability that no other bender could do look at ozai again in that final battle when aang turtles up into that rock formation ozai brings the heat but then while monologuing he charges up a devastating fire attack that breaks the rock formation completely he basically winds up and amasses a big ball of flame to chuck it hang like he's some sort of relief pitcher hopefully this isn't just a comet thing because if more firebenders could do this technique that'd be awesome to see again zuko came to teach aang fire bending there was a one problem he wasn't as good anymore whoops he had lost the anger and the passion that has driven him for so long and he was struggling to find a purpose so aang and zuko went off on a nice bonding adventure and came across an ancient tribe of firebenders who practiced a slightly different variation of the traditional fire bending it was called the dancing dragon and it allowed aang and zuko to find some common ground between them the technique seemed to blend a fire bending with airbending to create a powerful flame and given how they went on to save the world i take it the technique was pretty effective alright here we are the mother of all fire blasts it's the fire comet a totally ginormous fireball that makes every other fireball look puny by comparison when as sozen's comet passed by granting the firebender's immense strength ira formed his own a fire comet that penetrated bostingsay's walls like i know this was sosan's comment at all but like do any of us doubt ira would have been able to do this on any other day combustion bending is so powerful that the only person that can take down a combustion bender is that same combustion bender there's still so much we don't know about this explosive fire bending technique or the exact history behind it but we know there's a few of them out there causing trouble man can we for once have a combustion bender on our side is that too much to ask that power is absolutely devastating and it doesn't look like it requires much skill or fighting ability in the legend of korra lightning bending was a really casual thing that a lot of people could do but in avatar the last airbender it was the most powerful bending technique by far so much was said about how lightning was this uber powerful force and if someone shot lightning at you you really couldn't put up a water shield or a rock to block it the only way to really defend against it is to learn to redirect it which was described as an incredibly difficult process that involved maneuvering it around your inside so it avoided all those vital organs again it kind of lost its luster in the sequel series but back in aang's time oh man run and duck for cover if you can alright hear me out a fire suit of armor boom sure you'd probably get a little sweaty as it seals in all the juices but come on think of how awesome that would look right i think it's a good idea [Music] you
