today we're headed out to uh go pick up something i'm very excited to get i have been looking for one of these for four years three years something like that i'm not sure it's been a long time man it's been i've looked at a lot and i've passed on most of them but this one i wouldn't look at it justin met up with me we've been i had been seeing it for sale justin saw for sale he messaged me and he goes hey did you see this i'm like yeah i did i said but i've been trying to convince myself i don't need another project right now and not call the guy because it's such an incredible deal so i got a hold of the guy actually justin got a hold of him before i didn't kept message him because he's really hard to get over though and justin got a hold of him and he ran out and looked at this because he was closer to him and then he messaged me he's like yeah you need to get over here so i drove out it takes me about near an hour to get to where it's at and i'm looking over at what he had i'm usually that guy negotiates on on everything i purchased but this was such a great deal there just was no need to negotiate uh i just said i'll take it so i gave him a deposit and i was been really really busy don't have time to get there so i told myself the best thing i can do is come back on this day to get it which is today so stick around i'll show you what we're going to get well here it is we're trying to get it out from where it was it was kind of sunk down in the in the gravel here it's been sitting there for a little while and his freightliner won't fit and the guy's drive is too narrow so we have to take it all the way out to the road so should be interesting [Applause] justin's here helping us because he lives close by he's such a nice young man he's so excited he's waiting well it's moving easier than i thought once we got it unstuck from where it was [Applause] so we're taking it down the road just a piece to a recycling center parking lot because it's too hard to load it right here [Applause] well we got it down here so he's going to get the freightliner now to load her up [Music] [Music] [Music] ready [Music] [Music] nothing get down below that deck down over here all right so it's all loaded ratchet binder on each corner one in the middle went up pretty good now we're gonna take care of some paperwork then we're gonna head home [Music] well we got it loaded up went pretty smooth and we're heading home and we're coming back to get the extra parts that go with it yeah there's uh two extra front clips there's two sets of running boards there's a fiberglass hood i think there's two sets of doors or two doors and another door there's two extra transmissions two extra motors and a front axle and a rear axle wow so we got a full load you might want to bring the pickup too yeah okay so [Music] so [Music] uh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right so here it is um effectively i am the third owner of this truck it was the original owner the man that i bought it from and now me it's a 1948 ford f6 it came with a clean clear ohio title and it was last driven to the man the man's property that i bought it from in 1996 he ran he started he bought it he drove it to his property and parked it and been there since 1996. unfortunately now the engine is stuck from sitting probably green zone was just stuck from sitting and not water intrusion it could probably start back up and you know we could save it however that's not my intention for this project um i have been looking for a clean body and in this era of of truck i would be okay with the late 40s early 50s somewhere in there this one happened to come up i had been i had seen it on marketplace for a few weeks and the number the price was good i just really i had been looking but i really don't need any more trucks and projects right now and um i kept looking at it and justin messaged me hey do you see this i said man i've been watching it for weeks i'm i'm trying to keep myself from contacting the guy to go buy it because i just don't have time i i don't i don't need another project i but when these things come about and they're in this kind of shape you really if you want one that's the time to act so this is i'll tell you what i found a tract about it a lot of guys don't like the f6 they don't like the the they like the f1 okay the difference is not the cab it's just the wheel opening if you notice here there's not a lot of meat back here and this part of the wheel well the wheel wells openings bigger and it it's cut farther forward on the f1s it's a smaller wheel opening and it curves in like this and it leaves this massive amount of steel up here in the front well that's not really what i'm after i'm after the bigger ones because i want to put bigger tires on it i like the bigger trucks um i like an f1 but if i'm going to build one i want to build it on a bigger chassis the f3 and larger because that's where the wheel wells from what i'm learning because i learned a lot of stuff from the guy that i bought it from and justin knows a lot about these because he's had a couple i think but uh so anyways i bought it from him he was the second owner i'm third owner that's pretty that's pretty neat right there but look at that look at how that door opens just look at that door handle works all the door handles are here all the glasses in it the last time it was serviced was 1973 i think we found a date on here when someone did the service on it but look at the floor like this is just dirt it's solid there's no rust this has just got a little bit of surface rust here there's like nothing it's in such good shape the body panels where they meet are all good the bottoms of the doors are still in really good shape look at the instrument cluster it's a single wiper vacuum operated wiper turn signal levers are here six volt system of course the clutch is still still works the brakes are stuck they won't push the emergency brake actually works the transmission will go into gear again the motor's stuck we got the original keys to the truck and that neat we got keys to the truck that instant cluster is absolutely fantastic shape look look how clean that is that would clean up so nicely it seems to me to build this truck it would be sacrilegious to take this apart and destroy it so i'll probably just make another panel to go in here and put this aside and just keep it for the truck so if anybody ever want to put it back to originally could ashtrays there glove boxes there the inside the glove box is there had a mouse nest in it but not horrible the seat is here upholstery is a little rough but the seat is all in one piece so that is attractive we got some extra pieces extra headlight trim rings headlight retainer some chrome trim for the front of the hood turn signal trim a turn signal lens some hood trim extra ashtray like i said it's it's we're gonna have to get some glass because they're starting to separate here and the seals are pretty rough and you know this one's got some scraping and it's got some stone chips here and there but it's okay what a solid truck good solid truck so it was a dump truck obviously it's got 920 tires on it and these tires don't have any dry rot either they're all this one's obviously rubbed the curb at one time but they all they all hold air if i remember i don't remember any being low last played in 1969 or at least that was a plate that was on it maybe there's another one over top of it looks like there's extra bolts there but he drove to his house in 96 yeah so yeah this one's a little low but it's not flat that one's got air in it this side's a nice shape too check this out i found this interesting you have a a door lock on the passenger side i wonder if it was normal i mean it looks like an original door same color interior look at the floor on this side bottom door is beautiful as well it's a good old truck here's your blower not a whole lot here to really mess with the old safety triangles i've seen a lot of them over the years extra mirror this is the uh the mirrors for the smaller trucks i believe not these big ones they have the different style at least this one does and the other one i looked at did oh check this out this is an old fire extinguisher i think it's all all brass it says heavy vehicle type to operate turn the handle and work like a pump and spray out of there it used to sit right right there on the truck just like so that's something we'll be making sure we keep on the truck that'll be nice neat but yeah look at this so the antenna was here for the radio but he put this and taped it on so it wouldn't bang against that bulkhead cab protector so me and justin and the guy that sold it we all believe that this cab protector is the sole reason this cab's in good shape because it kept all the water off of that cab from rotten away the front clips had some work done i guess a lot of guys don't like this body line here so they fill it in uh it doesn't bother me at all i think it's okay we pulled it off this bumper i don't know how thick that bumper is but it's plenty strong i winched up on the truck with that bumper with no issues one turn signal lens is broken this front clip's had a bunch of work done to it over the years but look at that grill man all the trim rings are here for the turn signals you know the chrome is here there's a couple little small dents here and there you know this could be worked out trim the trims there for the headlights the fords on the front these trims are here oh yeah i forgot to mention that inside here if you notice there's extra hood trim there's a two for the front a couple for a turn signal an extra f6 badge turn signal lens and then the side hook trim this truck's like 49 inches wide inside so it's got a flathead v8 and it's stuck but like i said he drove it to his place in 1996 so the likeness that it could be fixed or got running again that's pretty high but you can see how they had a secondary fuel source going on here with the electric pump so but a pretty clean truck it's all here um we're gonna start doing some measurements today and see what uh where we're gonna go with this i really didn't need another project but after seeing this thing and how clean it was i just couldn't bring myself to pass it up um maybe i should have maybe not i don't know but i didn't and it's mine now so i guess it's all matters and i got good clean ohio title so i'm pretty happy about that so i'll show you what else we got um this was a package deal now when i when i usually go to buy something i'm usually a negotiator but when i went to go look at this i just the only thing i could do is say yes i'll take it because that's really all it could be said because it was it was a it was a price right and it was it suited me you know so this is what else we got we got an extra rear section of the rear end we got an extra differential with a two-speed electric this one is two-speed vacuum um springs u-bolts tires look at these tires there's no dry rut on these tires or 920s i don't know what year they are how old but you know they're in good shape and good tread i don't need these someone building a truck man they might that might be attractive to them not necessarily to me extra front axle springs and everything he put spacers on this for one of his other trucks he was trying to get a little more height out of it um i wouldn't want extra height i'd want it lower and then we got uh this one's a 1951 i believe he said flathead v8 motor and transmission and that one's a 1950. that one was in his building and he had running he says it runs good this one he says will run um he just uh had plans to use that one on a project changed his mind he's he's getting up in years he just realized he's he's thinking kind of long long lines i am that it i'm not gonna if i if i don't get moving or do something i'm not gonna get to all my projects and i'm gonna have to get rid of some so that's where he's at and also what we got was um some body parts this is an extra f3 actually they're both have three front clip the fenders the front end and hat what have you with inner fenders fuel tank extra set of running boards extra inner fender three extra doors got an extra bell housing we got extra hinges this is a pto off of another transmission one of these transmissions then we got this front clip which is just the one we'll probably use because in really nice shape and it's off an f3 we got a fiberglass hood fiberglass hood i don't know that we'd use that for anything we might just get rid of that but uh the mechanical parts will probably get rid of i don't think i need them at all but the body parts will probably hang on to most of them because if i could find another another cab then i'd have another another truck to build two more sets of running boards here and you see this clip is all complete and pretty good shape and the grill in this one is a painted one didn't have that the trim on it the chrome trim but you can get you can get almost every single part for this truck aftermarket it's incredible how popular they are and there's your the other flathead like i said this is the one he had in his shop um where he's working and he said he had it running so a lot of extra parts lots of extra stuff so now the question is what are we gonna do with it so my plan for this truck today because my plans change so so quickly my plan would be to take this cab and clip off this frame and put it on a late model chassis something a little more driver friendly something i can travel with i don't know i'm undecided at this point what's going to be on the back whether it's going to be a flatbed no bed set up like a little semi i really don't know at this point i just got to wait and see so today i'm going to do some measuring i've got a couple chassis i'm thinking about that it might go on and um we'll try and come up with a plan justin's about as excited about this as i am and he wants to be part of the build so that'll be nice to have some help you know and not only that some other another opinion on on ideas but i'm very excited look how look how nice those cab lights are all the lenses are good that's that's just fantastic just fantastic so anyways hope you guys enjoyed this video and watching us pick up one of these absolutely fantastic finds i'm so excited to keep working on this thing anyways hope this comes into a lot more videos and a big project and all that you guys get to see it all come together catch you on the next one
