Festive Reading Vlog (Dec 2nd- Dec 24th) Bookmas

hi it's julie and welcome to another reading vlog so today is wednesday the 2nd of november with november my brain is not working today today is the 2nd of december and i'm very very excited because i love december i love this time of year and i am just an elf at this time of year like i love christmas so much so i'm very very excited originally i was hoping to start this vlog yesterday on the first of december but i had to work getting the shop ready for reopening today which i'm luckily off work today i have the day off today so i thought i'd start the vlog today instead so i did have a few comments and messages saying am i going to be participating in bookmas this year unfortunately i won't be able to because of work commitment i just will not have the time to do all that filming so instead i thought i'd do bookmas vlogs i haven't quite figured it out yet but yeah we're just going to go with it and see how this goes so i do have work um this week so obviously i can't daily vlog every single day but i will try and vlog as much as possible this week and hopefully this is a nice festive reading vlog they don't have a whole lot of reading updates but i do want to say i finished house moving castle yesterday or the day before i listened to this on audio and i did really enjoy it i rated it 3.75 stars which is very specific but i gave it four and goodreads just to round up definitely prefer the movie a hundred percent which i rarely say but yeah i definitely in this instance prefer the movie i just prefer howl in the movie and sophie in the movie so i'm still reading the invisible life of i think hebrew i don't know why it has taken me so long to read this book i've just been prioritizing other things i'm on page 142 so i haven't read that much at all um but i am enjoying it i just feel like it's very very slow so yeah i just feel like there's a lot of little details in here that aren't really necessary and it's just making the book and it's just making the book feel slow and i'm struggling to see what the actual plot is like i get i get the obvious bit of the plot about her making the deal with the devil kind of thing i get that but i mean is it just going to keep going on about things like that happen to addie day to day or is it going to get into a more in-depth plot like i hope you guys understand what i mean and but i am still massively enjoying this it's really really good so far the writing is a phenom i can't say this word phenomenal phenomenal phenomenal that word the writing is amazing and yeah as you can see i've literally annotated the crap out of this book already oh my sticky tap's falling out yeah but i've annotated this a lot i have tabbed loads and loads of things but i need to go through and like underline and write notes for some of the tabs because i haven't done that yet um i do that for every book that i have about certain books i do um but yeah i'm really really enjoying this so far so i will be reading this book this week hoping to make a lot of progress i don't plan to finish it but at least get a good chunk read that's like kind of all the updates for this week and my reading plans for the week i am actually now going to open my advent calendars so i have two advent calendars and i actually haven't opened either of them yet very very excited i usually always have a chocolate advent calendars like every single year and this is the first year that i didn't get chocolate one but i will show you them i'm so happy so the first advent calendar i have is this one here so this is a tea advent calendar and this is a fortnum mason one so i'm sure you guys can tell from all my vlogs that i'm obsessed with tea i'm addicted like i love tea i yeah i drink it all day every day and yeah i have never ever had a tea advent calendar before so when i saw this i was like i have to have that my god is so cute look at it it's so so cute we're gonna open doors one and two today oh black tea happy day yes please christmas black tea is the first one number two is moroccan mint oh i love mint tea i used to drink peppermint tea all the time i'm gonna have the christmas tree today i think to get in a nice festive mood yes i'm very very excited about this africana as you can tell and then my second advent on there i'm obsessed with you see this so this is a nightmare before christmas advent calendar like look at it oh this is so cute i have this advent calendar here so this is actually a pop-up advent calendar so basically if you get a little cardboard christmas tree and then every single day you pick out a new little ornament to go on there he was like a character or something and then you get like a little booklet with it and stuff um so like it'll look like this here on the bottom if this is gonna focus so it'll look like this by the end of the advent calendar and i'm very very excited [Applause] oh my goodness guys look look at this oh my god look at this though i'm absolutely obsessed so let's open door number one oh wait a little jack skeleton with a little pumpkin head look how cute this is so cute let's get door number two opened and then we'll put them on the tray oh my god it's so cute so so cute ignore my disgusting nails but oh my gosh we have jack where so cute and zero so that's the tree so far um but i'm just obsessed like look how cool this is and it's just so cute so it makes it look a little bit more festive in that corner of my room anyway so one of my christmas presents just arrived from jamie and i still want to open it but i can't oh i know it's a book because it's from black belt and yeah i just i really want to open it so bad but i'm going to be a good girlfriend i'm not open my presents before christmas [Music] do [Music] i'm scared to try this yeah not for me eel no no not for me oh well i'm not feeling it guys not a vibe i'm gonna leave that so i'm gonna make a normal cup of chino instead because that one is gross i'm gonna see if anyone else wants it though because i don't want to waste it let's go for the santa mob my normal tea instead because you can't go wrong with a bitty yorkshire tea [Music] um [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so so [Music] so [Music] so hi so it's been quite a few days since i last updated you guys so i know this vlog isn't great i just have been so busy with work and i just literally have not picked my camera up um so yeah not great but it's christmas time and i work in retail so it's kind of hard to like actually have the time to vlog so i'm not sure how this vlog's actually going to turn out today is a sunday i think it's like the 7th of december or something and it's like 1 o'clock and i still haven't really done anything with my day except for get ready i do have some reading updates regarding andy larue so i haven't done much reading except for reading adi so i'm now just over halfway i'd say and i'm on page 310 so my thoughts so far on this i thought the first 100 or so pages were very very slow and just kind of droning on a bit and i don't know like i was still enjoying it and the writing is like absolutely amazing but it just felt really really slow and i didn't really feel like anything was happening and it wasn't really getting to like whatever the plot was and then when i hit like the 200 page mark things start to get like really interesting the pace kind of picked up and lots of things happening and it's a lot more fun so i am really really enjoying this and the writing like i said it's just amazing i'm really falling in love with victoria schwab's writing i have been tabbing it as well but i've run out of loads of the colors so i've had to use like all the colors now which is really annoying i am really really enjoying this still have like just over 200 pages left of this book like i said because i'm gonna be working the next few days and with no days off i will only have time to read this like before after work so i'm hoping i can finish this as soon as possible but yeah i've just not got a lot of time at the moment to actually read yeah my plans for today are actually to go out into town i have like a couple of places i want to go to i'm going to go to the bookshop obviously and then i need to go to forbidden planet as well and then just a couple other places and i might be meeting my friend danny which is really really exciting but yeah not that exciting at all um i really hope this vlog doesn't suck but that's my plans for the day and i will hopefully talk to you guys later today okay so there was this one line in andy larue that i've never ever related to more in a book before and as a bookseller like this is just so spot-on so basically there's a character in this book called henry for those of you who haven't read it and henry is a bookseller and works in a bookshop so basically a lady came into the shop and she's looking for this book that she read once and she cannot remember what it was called and she says oh let's say it was a big book it was about life and death and history that doesn't exactly narrow it down but henry is used to the lack of details the number of people who've come in looking for something they've seen able to supply nothing beyond the cover was read or i think it had the word girl in the title and that is just so relatable because we get so many customers come in who are like oh i read this book like back in the 90s it had like a red cover there was a dog on the front i don't know what the author was doing what the title was and i don't remember what it was about and that happens like all the time and we have to try and figure out what the book is and it just made me laugh so much because i've never ever like come across a character before and like literally like been like oh my god that is literally my life so i just love that and i just really wanted to share it [Music] okay hi so it is many hours later i don't really have any reading updates because i ended up going out and i finally met danny me and danny have been friends for like five or six years online and just not met each other and she literally lives like really close to me um but we finally randomly decided to meet today and i had a really really nice evening it was so fun and we went book shopping so i'll show you a couple of the books that i've got i did go to forbidden planet so i picked up some comic books as well so the first thing i got in front of planet was this here so this was 4.99 and this is the art of wonder in the film and i've wanted this for years since it very first came out so this is meant to be 30 pounds um and forbidden planet had it for 4.99 so i got it and it just has really really nice art in here from the film stuff and i love this film it's one of my favorite films and wonder woman is one of my favorite fictional characters so i had to get this for five pounds then i just picked up some single issue comics so i got this really nice foil edition of something that's killing the children um so this is a comic that i really can't wait to read this is just the first single issue but i am actually going to collect the trade paperback um but this just sounds really good i've had really good things you can't really see properly because of the light but this is such a cool cover as well um and then i got a couple of wonder woman comics so i got this one here she's wonder woman 84 museum mayhem and so i think this is a comic based off the museum scene that's going to be happening in the next movie so i just got that because it looked like it'd be really fun and then i also got this cool edition of wonder woman 1984 and it just has these cool retro grabs and i just thought it looked really cool and i also got this monstrous um single issue which is talk stories i really like the monstrous comics so i just saw that and thought it'd be fun to read and then lastly i randomly picked up this one which is called the autumnal and i believe this is like a kind of horror comic yeah it's like a really cool like horror comic and it just sounds like really interesting and i really like this kind of colorful art style and it's like an autumnal blue palette inside so i just picked this up and if i enjoy it and there's a trade paperback available then i'll also pick that up in the future but yeah i just got those um comics anyway they didn't have the ones i originally went in for um i really wanted to get mercy comics but they didn't have any so i ended up leaving those and then when i was in the bookshop i got these two books so i got fangirl by rainbow rowell and this is volume one so i read this book a few years ago and i really really enjoyed it this is just the graphic novel for the book as well and danny also really enjoyed fangirl when she read it so we both got a copy of this and we're going to buddy read it together and it would just be really really fun and really like nostalgic because i read this such a long time ago so yeah i picked that up and then i also picked up this one here so this is christmas timing dark tales of the christmas season and this is by the british library and this is just a collection of like stories that are all like festive but really creepy and like horror stories yeah i got that because it just sounded really fun and a bit different and i really like the cover as well but yes i have enjoyed my evening anyway and haven't done any more reading so hopefully i can actually update you guys tomorrow but i'm working every single day this week so it's going to be very hard to squeeze in vlog footage but i shall try i do plan to read somewhat of addy larue on the train tomorrow on the way to work so i will hopefully have a reading update for you at some point [Music] okay hi so today is saturday the 12th of december so the last time i updated you guys i think was the very very start of december so not great and this vlog has been a monumental failure because i have literally been working every single day and i don't get home until really late i have no time to film whatsoever so i just haven't been able to vlog and this vlog is just not the one i think i'm just gonna continue the vlog from here anyways and just do like a vlog over the course of like three weeks because there's no point trying to do weekly vlogs when i literally have like one day off a week to vlog so yeah we're not gonna do that we're just gonna make this one giant vlog for the whole of december well up until christmas and we shall see how it goes i will just start with some reading updates anyway so when i was last vlogging i was still reading the invisible life of addy larue i have since finished that so i finished this book on the train at 7 am on the way to work which was a mistake because i ended up crying in public which was very embarrassing i was sat on the train crying into my book i was getting the weirdest looks and it was just not a fun time but i did finish i do the room um so i decided on a rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 for this one this book was just i have no words it was really really good the reason i gave it 4.5 and not 5 was because i felt the pacing was a little bit off for this book it started very very slow the first 200 pages very very slow then it kind of started to pick up around that 200 page mark and i kind of started to understand the plot and whatnot and like the first 200 pages i get it like they are necessary and parts of them come into the plot later on in the book but it just felt really slow and then the pace changed and yeah that's my only like little critique it's not like a major thing other than that this book was amazing it literally like broke my heart and it was just like a massive journey of like rowing with adi over 300 years going through all these different experiences hopes and setbacks and all these different things and i just really really enjoyed it it was just so good the writing for this is insane like this is my first victoria schwab adult book and i absolutely loved it i loved her writing her writing is so immersive and just amazing like so easy to read and i just really love so many aspects of this book like there's a lot of mental health wrapping here and there are some trigger warnings for mental health and suicide so just so you guys know and she really interestingly kind of portrayed mental health quite different to how a lot of others do she talked about it a lot through her characters in here especially henry the side character she basically describes like oncoming bad thoughts and like his mental health is like storms and the way she did that was just really unique and i just really enjoyed that kind of like representation of mental health and i also really love how um not one but two characters in here are bisexual so we have addie and henry who are both bisexual and to have like that much representation especially from main characters in a book i think is something that isn't done a lot in y.a or adult fantasy and i think we need more of that and i just really appreciated that being in here i think that just really is something that we need more of i just really really enjoyed this book it's beautifully written it's really interesting um i am absolute trash for luck sorry i think i seem to look i'm not gonna say luke because there's no e on it so we're gonna call him look i'm trash for him i love him and yeah don't come for me because he is a bit he's on the dark side but that's why i like him i would read a whole book that was just about him i have wrote a small review right after i finish this book which i will have linked down below if you want to hear my immediate thoughts and yeah i may do like a proper comprehensive review because as you can see i tapped the out of this book there are so many taps in here and i use like two whole packs of tabs and yeah i like ran out so i really really enjoyed this i'm currently reading kingdom of the wicked by carrie maniscalco so i have the dust jacket off because i took this to work and i didn't want to damage it but i'm now on page 109 of this um so i haven't really read that much at all and i'm really enjoying it so far so i am just currently reading this i really need to finish orange because i started reading that like two weeks ago and i haven't picked it back up since so i need to read that i have a few graphic novels i want to read because i've only finished two books this month so far which isn't great when i need to try and read like i think i've got 16 more books i need to read before the month ends so yeah i don't know if that's gonna happen i really want to film the video today and i just have no idea what to film i literally have no videos pre-filmed for this month and i'm stressed out i'm feeling very overwhelmed and it's just really hard because enough at 5 five a.m every single day and traveling two years to work and two hours back my days are very long and the actual days themselves are exhausting so trying to find room to get filming in is almost impossible so i want to take advantage of today and try and film like a load of videos but i just don't know what to film and i'm so tired so i just like i don't know i'm stressed i'm very very stressed [Music] okay so it is a little bit later on and to be honest i've done nothing productive i've wrote some of like my auntie christmas cards that i do so like for my like immediate family members and stuff um i still need to write some other christmas cards and wrap some christmas presents but it's almost 3 p.m and i'm gonna have to go into town before everybody closes so i'm gonna do that now i might stop in nero and get a quick cake and tea because we all know i love caking tea and then i'll come back and try to read okay hi guys so it's me it is literally like i don't know wow it's literally like a lot later since i last update you guys so it's the 19th of december i started this vlog on the 2nd of december and yeah it's been a it's been a wild ride so basically i'm just going to be a bit honest with you guys i haven't had the best month this month has just been very very overwhelming for me and i i'm just having a hard time dealing with christmas and working full-time youtube and a lot of stuff personally so yeah it's not been a fun time and i just haven't really vlogged or filmed at all and i feel like i've been putting myself under a lot of pressure especially when it comes to youtube and i'm just very very overwhelmed i'm just yeah i'm struggling basically i'm always quite open and honest with people especially like if you read my instagram captions and stuff i'm very very honest and open with how i feel and my mental health and i feel like it is important to be that way on booktube because not everything is all nice and fuzzy as it seems you know we're still people yeah i've just found it very very difficult and obviously as you can tell by this vlog it is all over the place it is very chaotic and yeah i don't think i've ever had a vlog this long before so i think i would just be calling this like look worse vlog or something or a chaotic december vlog i really don't know um but i thought i would just jump on here and give you guys a few updates tell you how i'm feeling and then wrap this vlog up because obviously this vlog isn't going to go any further than this i had my last day off today and i'm working on all the way up till christmas um so i won't have any other time to update you guys i have a long commute to and from work so when i get home from work there's no time for filming or doing anything except for eating showing and sleeping so i did want to try to get to 100 books this month i don't know if that will happen maybe i'll be able to do it after christmas but i've only finished like three books i think this month so yeah not great but i suppose i've done well managing to fit them in um but i finished kingdom of the wicked by carrie maniscalco a few days ago or last week i think it was i gave this four stars i really really enjoyed this i love this i'm absolutely in love with wrath but i am so confused by the ending of this book i have no idea what happened was it all a lie wasn't it like i just don't understand like i did not expect that and it's really throwing me off and i just don't really know what to think of any of this book now because of it i just need book two i need to know what the hell is going on i really really enjoyed this it was so good i love carrying my skeleton's writing and i'm very very excited for the second book which i think comes out next year so yeah i finished that and i started reading winter wood by shia angel so i'm now on page 96 of this so i haven't read a lot of it i am enjoying it it's very atmospheric it's very wintery so for this time of year it's absolutely perfect it's just a really good book to cozy up with so i am really enjoying this so far i'm hoping to finish it by the end of next week because i have a very very busy weekend i mean obviously it is christmas in a few days but hopefully i can finish this so yeah i'm really enjoying that i haven't done any of the reading at all yes anyway i'm sorry this is sounds so negative i'm just trying to keep it real really yeah it's not all bad i've still had a nice day off i did a little bit of christmas shopping my boyfriend we went and had food with some friends yeah it was a nice day a nice change of scenery from work every single day i love my job so much and i'm so lucky to have my job i'm just finding it really really exhausting at the moment because i'm working so much and have such a big commute morning to evening and getting up at 5 30 every single day it's just starting to take its toll on me um but yes it's yeah it's all good it's so good we'll get through it i'm laundry christmas day i'm very very excited for christmas i still need to somehow find time to wrap up my christmas presents that's all my reading updates that's my kind of sad little talk but i'm gonna try to wrap this vlog up here i am planning to try to vlog right after christmas i think i have three or four days off in a row which is really really good after this past month um i know i had a whole month off in november which was great but i was kind of working every single day of that month doing youtube stuff i literally hardly had any days off i was constantly doing things and other things in my personal life so i wasn't just chilling all the time and then to just be thrown into full-time covered christmas has just been really really exhausting and so i am looking forward to my days off after christmas um and i plan to try and read a lot and i might vlog then as well i had a lot of content planned for december that i just haven't been able to do i do have my 20 21 books to read in 2021 video coming very soon i'm hoping to try and film a few more videos after christmas to squeeze in before the year ends so do look out for those videos and yeah hopefully there's another vlog coming up um but i'm just really really sorry that i haven't got around to filming all the christmas content that i promise you guys and i just really hope that you guys don't hate this vlog too much and can kind of bear with me until i get back into the swing of things again yes i really do hope that you guys are all having a really nice month i know things are really tough for everyone right now i'm really really challenging and covered and christmas as a whole can both be two things that are just very very hard for people and i am always here for anyone who needs me and i just hope that you're all doing okay and getting through it so i really forgot to include these i it's really late at night and i'm very tired and i want to do it's bad but i just want to show you guys some books quickly um so i got sent this beautiful proof um and this is the last bear by hannah gold very very excited to read this this is one of the most stunning proofs i've ever had so thank you very much and then i kindly got sent some really nice gifts in the post which i can't tell you guys how much it means to me like i've been having a really shitty time and it was just so nice to receive these and the fact that people thought of me to send me them and yeah it's just really really kind so i received a book of my amazon wishlist which i'm very very excited about and this is from nikki so it says merry christmas i love your youtube channel such a console from the tbr hoarder so thank you so much nikki because it's made my day but this is the nightmare before christmas manga which so excited for i love nightmare before christmas i'm really into manga at the moment and this just looks so so amazing so thank you so much nikki i can't wait to read this i really hope i can maybe squeeze this in around christmas time somehow um maybe after christmas but yeah i'm obsessed with this and thank you so much and then i had this and this really got me i've never had someone send me an amazon book that was like in this gift wrapped i didn't even know this was a thing so this was just so so kind and this person sent me multiple books which i just nobody ever has to send me anything and to even send me one book is just so unbelievable to me and i honestly can't explain how grateful i am and i can't even fathom that level of kindness for someone to send me something so to receive this it was just yeah speechless i'll quickly show you so this had a really nice little gift note on it that says hope you have a wonderful christmas i love your channel and found so many great books through watching your videos merry christmas from about this and i just love this cover so much and yeah very very excited she then also sent me volume two of the wicked and the divine i've got this upside down haven't i yes i have um so i recently purchased a volume one and i'm really looking forward to reading it and i had volume two on my wishlist and then lastly she also sent me this which is neil gaiman's hansel and gretel so excited for this one as you will have seen in my recent videos i've really been enjoying nail gaming at the moment and i was looking at this one for a while and i'm just so happy to have it obviously this is like a kind of dark twisted spin on hansel and gretel by neil gaiman and guys just look at this artwork inside it's so dark and i'm just obsessed like i love this so much i absolutely cannot wait to read this this is just gonna be such a nice fun read and yeah i'm just i'm so so excited for this one so thank you so much to nicole because i just yeah i can't even cope this is just such a kind thing to do and i'm really really happy to hear that you have found some books through my channel i really hope that you loved all the books that you found through me nikki and nicole thank you so much because a bookmark this is so cute a little something homemade oh my god she made this herself this is so exciting oh my god i love stuff like this that's homemade oh my god this is so cute i love it it's so so this is just yeah this is just a lovely way to see what you sent me i have actually worn one of these today so it's not selling it's cute little pouch but i will quickly show you guys i'm just
