this third episode of breath of praise ah man amen who he also loves music he's a gifted charister and musician and we are just friends who love to spread the word of god through the gifts that he has given us so welcome sit down relax and enjoy did you used to say that in primary school yeah so today we are discussing a very very very interesting topic fear god for those who've watched this who are just watching this series for the very first time we are going through a series based on revelation 14. you know where uh it started with maybe i'll just ask caleb to read revelation 14 verse six where we came from uh the previous episodes and i saw another angel then i saw another angel flying in mid-air and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth to every nation tribe language and people he said in a loud voice fear god and give him glory seven let's stop it at that he said in a loud voice fear god and give him glory and that is what we're discussing today what does it mean to fear god god and god alone deserves to be feared amen he deserves to be praised and let us sing that beautiful song together praising god and god alone [Music] god alone created all these things we call our own from the mighty to the small the glory in the law is alone [Music] god and god alone reveals the truth of all we call unknown and all the best and worst of men won't change [Music] god and god the lord is is thrown let everything that lives reserve his truest praise god [Music] he will of god and god alone [Laughter] is [Music] let everything that lives reserve his shoeless praise for god [Music] [Applause] the is throne let everything that lives reserve his truest praise [Music] is [Laughter] [Music] amen amen for god and god alone let's talk about fearing god that is such a powerful song especially when we related to what we are talking about today fear god what does it mean to fear god maybe let's start with the definition of fear [Laughter] in this respect or maybe yeah fear what what does fear mean steve when the word fear is spoken it brings about or it implies trembling it implies you know you know i don't want to use the word afraid again because yeah but that's not the meaning my understanding of fearing god is giving him reverence that he deserves okay adoration because he's mighty and only him deserves to be worshipped so in this word it is not the negative meaning that we ascribe the word fear okay but rather it is positive the sense that we revere him and give him due acknowledgement as our maker and our king let's hear other words enoch do you do you have more to say uh not much the other part the bible talks of is in proverbs the fear of god is the beginning of all wisdom i think proverbs 1 7 i don't want to preempt the whole of it so that you can discuss it holistically but that's one aspect of fear it comes out like um honoring revering yeah respect respect reverence [Laughter] yeah i think it basically points us to the creator what what is our attitude towards him yes i think that's attitude towards the creator debbie um the definitions have been said i should say reference it could another meaning i get from you know fear god is obedience fear justice to give him to defer to his authority that is you realize he is god and we are man as he says in isaiah 55 that your ways are not my ways as high you know as the heavens are is from the earth is so are my ways not you know like he demarcates clearly that he is god we are human being so i agree with what everybody is saying to have an attitude which shows reverence so it has to do with the mind it has to do with the mind but now okay yes we've talked about fear being you know giving reverence to god or being in awe respect and and the attitude towards god why why is it important for us to fear god why why should we fear god anyone can answer in three two one i'm kidding this this could be a reminder because scripture is saying fear god and give him glory or give glory to him you see when scripture gives us a reminder or a statement the other meaning or input is there are others who don't fear god they don't revere him and may they may be worshipping a different god so this is a reminder that it is only god the creator who ought to be worshipped because you know we are looking at the breath of praise how we are worshiping god in music in the context of the three angels and you know we are still at the first angel so my understanding is that we need to give that loyalty and absolutely to god and god alone just as we've said why we should fear but yes maybe just to also strengthen the the topic from the ten commandments commandment number one [Music] one says you shall have no other gods before me the gods is talking over this the ones in small g's meaning any other thing and if you go ahead in verses okay i'm in exodus 20 verses 20 verses 20 verses 7 says you shall not take the name of the lord your god in vain for the lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain those are some of the aspects of how to fear you can see them in the ten commandments in verses three or uh sorry in the third commandment as well shall not bow down to them nor serve god is simply demarcating like justice said in the ten commandments we understand more of what fear is outlined in the first four commandments i'll still ask the same question yeah we can say yes god is telling us to fear him but why is it important for us to fear him why is he asking us to fear him justice two reasons number one let's just make it practical if today the president of the republic is to walk into your house you'll make sure you serve him tea with that cup for the guests because you respect him for his position yes or for what he has done you know uh we when you hear albert einstein or isaac newton you respect their respected scientist for a certain reason so god is to be feared and worshipped not because of any other reason but number one because he is god he is god for who he is he is the creator he is the one who made everything you remember the other verse we studied in the previous uh chapter psalms 50 verse 12 he says if i were hungry i will not tell you because the earth and everything that is in it is mine so number one because he is the creator but number two there's uh the verse tells us why we should fear god why should we should respect him it gives a direct answer and he says for the hour of his judgment is coming i wouldn't want to exhaust that because probably carol has planned the problem program in such a way that we have also our judgment so let us save that for that but that's the other reason because that's the only way we are going to be able to stand in the judgment in fact when you read first john 4 uh it says that in in in love in love there is no fear and will stand in in in judgment with perfect confidence because we have obeyed him therefore his favor is on us so those are the two main reasons yeah and then you brought that word fear again which uh steve steve was saying you know they're two different fears i will look at that verse quickly but as the others are grey god yes first john 4 like yes i wanted to mention if you look at the context of the of the verse it says he said in a loud voice and we spoke of this in the previous episode talking of the clarity and preciseness and the fact that it needs to reach everyone it means that there is a lacking in terms of fearing right so that is why he has to say it in a loud yeah like you know what we are veering off from the person we need to fear so how about we get back to it yeah yes yeah and carol i've gotten the verse here it's first john chapter 4 verse 18 he says there is no fear in love but perfect love drives out fear now this is the other fear of being afraid yeah so we have to choose which fear that we want to have is it the fear of respect or to fear this one and he says because fear has to do with punishment the one who fears is not made perfect in love and then verse 19 says we love because he first loved us anyway it's about that other kind of thing yes can i speak on the other kind of fear when we were younger um we okay we are four in our family all right and uh my parents were strict and when we lived in nairobi you know after you've come back from school there are certain things you were supposed to do and so when you had the the vehicle approach the gate and you haven't done those things that you are supposed to do you know that's when we would all if you're supposed to have showered and none of us had you you're all fine you know you're all trying to press through the door to be the first one to go and shower you know so because you're fearing like what will happen next time because you're in the wrong you're feeling the consequence but on the contrary when you had done what you were supposed to do you are excited about their coming yeah you know you're anticipating it in fact yes yes so um that will show so that goes to show the two types of fear yeah all right where in fact the in in the first place the reason you went about doing what you were supposed to do yeah it's because you respect your parents all right yeah so you you have no fear in you yeah you all you're expecting is you know congrats congratulations for doing what you have yeah you know yes that's what i want yeah about other examples yes though i'm going to use a biblical example um that's job we can read job one uh job 1 8-9 then the lord said to satan have you considered my servant job that there is none like him on the earth a blameless and upright man one who fears god and shuns evil so satan answered the lord and said does job fear god for nothing and i think the story of job is the best example of fearing god because job feared god even when his wife told him not to so yes that's the best example yeah yeah it's it's it's god above everything and anyone yes um because i think they've combined something no it's fear god even if you look at it in the negative form you know when you say you don't fear dogs it could be because you have a dog and you know their character but in this sense because you're looking at reverence it means there are people who have other gods in the form of materialism pleasure and other you know their own division that's where there is a need for a powerful reminder that look only god needs to be worshipped even now when you're talking of music people have deviated from singing about their maker and their king and now their praises are about me i know what you say me i myself syndrome rather than lifting praises to god who is the giver you know of all gifts which we have and which you know we use that's true and before we move on um maybe just to draw a very powerful lesson from the practical example justice mentioned about if let's say a big person you know the people we we refer to as big people a jia president comes to your home or wherever you you know you'll do everything that needs to be done yeah you make sure that you know you find out what does he like so that you don't you know you don't drop the ball yeah and how about how about the king of the universe yeah yeah how about the god of oh the king of kings you know the real yeah how about him yeah and so the same way we worked so hard to prepare for that special visit yeah to prepare i remember even in high school an mp you know when an mp was to come for one of those functions and we would wash the whole school and prepare so well yeah yeah you know like you find out the things that they like so that you everything is perfect how about we also take time you know even in the line of um showing god reverence let's be humble enough you know to learn to learn and know the things that god that god requires of us and the verse that um enoch enoch referred us to exodus chapter 20 yeah and you know after the ten commandments have been given chapter verse 20 says moses said to the people do not fear for god has come to test you that the fear of him may be found before you that you may not feel wow those are the two fears so again we just choose which fear yes which uh which fear we it's so natural though to be afraid yes and you'll find a lot of people are more afraid of god i'll just use that word than the the the fearing of god of giving reverence you know you find peop because god has been depicted as you know if you if you don't do this you will go to hell you will pa you will burn in fire yes yes and so if some people are like i and then others completely it's just disrespect like who is this god he does not deserve it so when we come back uh dear viewer we are going to get into the discussion of about fearing god we are uh talking ab a series based on revelations 14 uh from verse six and right now we are on verse seven where we are saying you know um what does the bus say revelation that you should guys should always have a note uh what's not a note what is it called a bookmark a bookmark right there so you can get to it immediately yes and he said with a loud voice fear god stop right there and he said with a loud voice fear god in previous episodes we were we discussed you know what loud voice actually means why we need to proclaim this message with a loud voice because you know it needs to reach out to the whole universe and this message is telling us to fear god and we are now trying to understand why we established that he is the creator he is the maker of the universe this is our father's world there's no other reason really other than the fact that he created you and i that we should fear him so i'm going to sing a song just reminding us of who god is in our lives wonders [Music] this is my father's words the morning declare them make us praise this is my i hear him pass he speaks to me everywhere [Music] this is my father's world oh let me never forget [Music] earth be glad amen amen it's very interesting carol we should be glad because god is not a corrupt monarch so he reigns we should be happy that he has everything in control the second stanza of this is my father's world what does it say this is my father's well there's something uh the birds they're carols okay that's not the point i wanted to make moving on no go back the words they're carols the morning the morning light the lily white aha now this part declare their maker's praise if the creatures and nature around us declares our makers praise who are we not to do that we need to fear god yes we need to fear god yes so let's continue this discussion we've established that there are two fears there's fearing god and fear in god there's fear in god based on what we've just read revelations 14 verse 7 and there's fearing god what justice talked about perfect love drives away all fear and where should we lie is the question how can we fear god in our day-to-day lives steve you look okay even color but let's start with okay the fear of god demands that we perfect our holiness i'll read the book of second corinthians chapter seven verse one that says having therefore these promises okay dearly beloved let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit perfecting holiness in the fear of god so in our daily lives because jesus has enabled us he set an example by giving up his life that whoever believeth shall not perish and when we emulate him because he was man but without sin will be able to fulfill the words of perfecting holiness as we revere our maker and our king amen [Music] god is very orderly and the fact that this first angel you know goes to say fear god he is pointing us to the first four commandments because that is what it is about god so you're talking about you shall worship no other gods you shall have no other gods you shall not take my name in vain and you know the fourth one being the sabbath so those are the things if you look at the way you know and how loudly again it is said fear god so it is pointing us because we have lost that respect we have stopped uh focusing on those first four commandments and he is taking us back there then then before we continue with other practical ways just based on what you've said why have we stopped fearing god as we should please let me yeah because we have because we have uh reversed roles yeah we have become gods all right we have now taken ourselves so we are putting ourselves fast and hence there's no way if we are putting ourselves fast you can you know worship no other god because you're worshiping yourself already we need justice uh the way he spoke of you know maybe someone important coming and you preparing yourself it's all about placement where have you placed god you know when the the reason you prepare as much as you do when someone imported is coming to your house or to your into your area is because you've placed them somewhere he's no ordinary person so for as long as we have not placed god where he deserves to be placed in our lives then yes we we cease we stop fearing him yeah and i you know a lot of a lot of people will you know will say that uh a lot of motivational speakers today will say but you need to you know love yourself put yourself fast prioritize me you know nothing it doesn't matter you i have you guys had such yeah that's good hello yes so for me what i would say is the reason why we have gone is because we are sinful and because the devil is the mastermind he has a point to prove and he wants to prove that we all can be gods he wants to be god small g and so that's one thing he does with all his heart it's a passion and it's the one thing and i believe it's the reason why it's the first thing you know just fear god then there are other things that come after so yeah that's true because if we look at even how the devil tempts that's the one of his biggest temptations you know he wants you to believe that you know you need to rule the world you know you need to shine to be seen as debbie look at you you need to feel good you need to feel good and hence we put ourselves above about justice do you have something to say when you asked when you asked that about why why do we not fear god i realize one of the reasons is ignorance my people perish for the lack of ignorance but if you go to know who god is then it you will realize and and and that's why even like prophets like isaiah when they saw who god was the first reaction is oh wretched man i am i'm so sinful you're getting even paul so it is ignorance that makes us even think that we are better and i like the discussion that you're talking about you know how uh we want to take the first place and it started with you know our mother even our father adam you know god had told them please do this i'm god i'm your father i love you satan comes with a theory god doesn't want you to be like him you know eat that fruit so that you can go up up and ever since then man has always been wanting to look at inwardly you know from the tower of babel they just want to look in inwardly so they can go high while the example the heavenly example how god created us to be is philippians 2 5. let this mind this attitude of reverence be new this attitude this mind be new uh yes philippians 2 verse 5 right yeah uh which was in christ jesus who being in the very nature of god did not consider equality with god as robert it was something to be grasped but he lowered himself and he humbled himself so i think bottom line one of the main reasons is ignorance because if we got to know god and one of the ways you can get to know god you know the songwriter says oh lord my god when i in awesome wonder consider all thy world's thy hands for you to consider the works of god please this generation go out to the fields and look at the trees and then you get to realize that god is a mighty creator yes enoch maybe just to stem a little from what uh justice i said uh we can talk of uh um the other aspect of not fearing god like what we are trying to discuss the reason why like if you know who god is then would put things aside and that's that that's why we have things stemming out like pride she read revelation and justice has mentioned if the laudation church is lukewarm why because they think they are rich but uh they are being told to go on by uh pure gold so not not really but that they might be given pure gold in exchange of what they have and the list is endless and the other aspect i want to bring bring out concerning the one on fear is uh in hosea chapter one versus two we it can also mean departing from the ways of the lord so when we depart from the ways of the lord which he has instructed us yes we are not fearing him hi yeah debbie you had something thank you thank you thank you it's very interesting i'm actually very i'm enjoying this discussion very much so justice mentioned something about ignorance and also enoch you know what he has added onto what justice said and i wanted to point out something yeah he mentioned about eve you know if they had been given clear instructions do not do this but they ended up doing exactly you know yes ignoring what or rather not doing what they had been commanded yeah yeah so a question to us and the viewer how many times have we um have we disregarded what god has commanded us to do yeah because of you know if eve if they feared god they wouldn't have done what what they did and um it's very interesting when we read the book of proverbs chapter 9 verse 10 it says that the fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the holy one is inside yeah you know enoch has has mentioned he he you know he went on and explained that you know because of not fearing god then we end up going against him and you know following our own ways yeah but from this verse we get a very clear statement that tells it's it is very simple if we want to be wise there's only one way yeah by fearing god [Music] thank you yeah thank you so much david so i wanted to mention that and what is the opposite of being wise foolish yeah so the book of psalms chapter 14 verse one yeah yeah the fool says in his heart there is no god they are corrupt they do a abominable deeds there is none who does good for us to be able to be christians here for us to be able to be christians and do the good works that we have been called to do yeah there is no shortcut we have to fear god amen and i think even through you know talking about uh why we don't fear god we've actually answered the questions why we how how we should you know we've gone into ignorance is why we don't so we shouldn't be ignorant let's learn let's learn the word of god let's learn what god has to say for us to be able to know how to fear him you know another example our day-to-day activities how can we fear god i think i want to add and say the reason why many don't fear god is because they have no personal relationship yes the book of john chapter 15 verse 14 says ye are my friends if you do whatever i command you okay so we need to build that friendship and let me just give a simple illustration my father while growing up well and at this point he's a very strict man a very good disciplinarian but for those who are on the wrong they fear him for reason that they are not friends but for us as his children we had that or and respect for him as much as we knew he was strict okay and it is desired that certain things are done in a certain manner we had a friendship which still runs today so not until we get to know our god not knowing about him but to know him and commune with him i'll interrupt you yes please because of time yes thank you for that point because you've brought me to the last point we need to discuss before the director tells me to cut okay yes yeah cheap love you've talked about friendship yeah yes so what kind of friendship are meant to have with jesus you know there's that there's that cheap cheap love like jesus is your body you can just you know talk any how you want uh is that a way to fear god okay maybe i just want you to expound on that a little bit before we close anyone justice um i love debbie so much love deborah viewer if you're joining this is my wife here and of course a fellow believer and i love her so much and for that reason there are boundaries in terms of how i treat her i can't just despise her and i also cannot worship her you're getting i need to treat her in such a way that shows that i'm genuinely her friend so when she does the wrong thing or let me put it this way when i do the wrong thing i go and tell her debbie i am sorry and that is one practical way of how our relationship with god can be good when we offend him just go back to him and by the way from genesis god has always been portrayed as a seeking god adam where are you where have you seen do you remember the story of the prodigal son the father is waiting with his arms opened so one of the ways is learning how to say sorry when wrong god yes that shows genuine friendship genuine friendship i think let me mention on cheap love let's not give god change yes right uh you know and when i speak of change it could be in in refine referring to how we give tithe and offering all right because you know when you see the basket start to move you're like oh how much do i have in my pocket you know time how what what time do we allocate for god is it and change is nowhere when you're in trouble you know you have you can spare time now to go down and pray but uh how let us allocate and give god his due time his due respect his due everything amen amen amen we need to respect god we need to worship him we need to fear god and obey him that's how we know that we have a relationship with god when we trust and obey him let's sing this song as we close how can we you know obey god and knowing that it will make us happy christians when we obey him let's sing this song together [Music] when we walk with the lord in the light of his word what a glory he sheds on our way while we do will do where he stands we will go never fear only trust and obey trust and obey for there's no other way to be happy in jesus but to trust obey for there's no other way to be happy in jesus but to
