well good morning so good to see all of you this morning how many of you have ever heard gold city all right well they're not quite as good as they do i'm just kidding listen you are in for a treat man what a great 8 30 service this morning i cannot wait for you to hear these guys so i want to let them sing as much as possible so i'm going to do this quickly and then get out of the way okay one thing that we'll do a little bit different today is we're taking a love offering in the early service and so i mean in the in the am service so we don't pass the plates so in the back back there we have the the offering plate where it always is for your regular ties and offerings then right in front of that you'll see a spot for the love offering if you want to write a check write it to michael that's e-c-h-a-e-l michael scarborough okay and uh if it's cash you can just hand it to me no problem i will get it to them okay no don't do that write it to first baptist church and put in the memo or on your envelope somewhere put gold city and i'll get my cut out of it and give them the rest all right so uh are they are they in here yet i got to keep talking that's not good they don't want to hear me talk brother i can tell you that sir that's good and we don't want to look at you so go outside all right [Laughter] so i'll tell you what i'll i'll share something with you about gold city i'll share it now instead of later they have a lot to do with me being in the music ministry i remember the very first time i heard them sing i was a young boy and they came to dothan alabama and i sat and listened to them and i heard the harmonies and i just fell in love with southern gospel music especially southern gospel quartet music and man i have heard a lot of groups over the years and i tell you gold city has always been the standard and they're here now so i'm going to get out of the way give a good talented welcome to gold city from gadsden [Music] alabama somebody sing me a gospel song tell me again that god's love is strong and i'm forgiving for what i've done wrong somebody sing me a gospel song i need to hear a s with words about the hope he's given me and left this world to stop her i've been all somebody sing me a gospel song i wanna hear some good harmony with words that take me back to calvary reminding me that by [Music] i know what i need [Music] somebody sing me a gospel song tell me again that god's love is strong and not forgiven for what this world is not arriving long somebody sent me a gospel song oh tell me about the savior who came and conquered sin oh he'd roll the tide and open wide the waves to make a road while everyone had doubted the off the shore that day i can just imagine hearing moses say i will not be shaken i will not be god is in control [Music] the fire was hot and they were shocked when they were not alone this world still tells believers to deny his name but by his power you will [Music] my hope is built on nothing less than jesus blood and righteousness i won't be shaken [Music] my hope is built on nothing let's let jesus blood and righteousness i will not be shaken i will not be moved i'm gonna stand in faith and watch what the lord can do i'm holding to the promise that god is in control i will not be shaking no no no i will not ashamed i will not god is in control [Music] i will not be safe [Applause] [Music] [Music] well i picked up the good book and took me a long look i believed it each and every part but i sure rejoiced and knowing about the reaping and the slowing i really took that lesson to my heart i cast my breath upon the water by having my brother [Music] [Music] come back to me well i can't find my way to heaven but there's a heaven awaiting purchase fire good and love and lord and much we're so glad to be here with you guys this morning it's good to be it's just good to be anywhere right now amen this has been a crazy year um for all of us we we normally sing about 180 to 200 concerts every year this year we didn't we we were home for most of the past year so anytime that we can get out and sing we're just glad we're happy and we hope that you're happy this morning most of you look happy there's a couple of you i'm not so sure what's going on but i've been on the road for 24 years gold city's been singing for 40 years and when we entered into this pandemic i thought we'd just be home for maybe a month or two and but in the 22 years i've been married i've never been home like we have for the past year i've always been gone every three four days a week so i didn't know how it was gonna go as this thing rocked on you know i figured it could go this way or that way but i'm thankful to say this morning that me and my wife still love each other but you know we face challenges in our lives all the time but aren't you thankful that we as god's people can trust him and he is always faithful that no matter how bad things get he's always good [Music] go and do a rough patch don't quite understand it it's lasted for a long time don't know how to end it started out by praying guiding my friends to praying too [Music] yeah god has never left me even on the worst days after all this time he's as close as in the first days grace and tinder merced i know they're gonna see me through yeah but i don't know the reason for the season of despair i'm living in but i know the burning bearer and he will carry me until the bad times in i trusted him a long time and he's always done the things that he said he wants even when the times are high god's still good yes he's [Music] well if you're in a bad way looking for solutions you won't ever find them in your own conclusions but god can clear your vision though [Music] then you'll know what i know nothing can defeat you even when the storms blow even in the bad times you'll know that god's still good [Music] but i don't know the reason for the season of despair i'm living in but i'm not [Music] [Music] [Music] i trusted him a long time [Music] god's still good [Music] ah if these flames that i've had to go through shine a lot to bring somebody to you of jesus i won't go i will go through any fire cause you are my hope and it's my desire to be [Music] is if this crawls you're asking me to carry that helps me know the way you suffered for me a jesus press it down down for all to see i will stand my ground and i'll learn what it means let me be preaching that you did not forsake me [Music] me [Music] [Applause] [Music] when this trial has gone me be [Applause] [Music] [Music] be foreign that you did not forsake me use me for your glory use me for your glory use me for your glory [Music] [Music] [Music] oh thank y'all so much listen we're so excited today to get to sing in our home state so we couldn't leave here without singing one song about being saved and baptized right here in alabama it was a hot and hazy jew-lined morning gathered by the river with the birds all humming and the smell of jasmine hanging on the briefs [Music] preacher he was preaching from a king james bible when the church all broke out in revival saints and citizens falling on their knees and that was the day everything changed [Applause] hallelujah i'm free thank god you met [Applause] [Music] ever me then he's been beside me like a north star shining he's there to guide me through the bins that turns the curse of this whole lot love his soul looking back now that southern summer i'll never get over all that he put under and he took this a rebel heart and washed it and that was the day [Applause] everything changed [Music] where i was [Music] hallelujah i'm free thank god where i for was [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] now bruce mentioned that uh this is our home state and it is uh chris is from jasper me and bruce were both from gadsden thomas is a foreigner he is from jefferson georgia you all glad to see thomas natalie this morning over here singing the bass chris is like i said from jasper i've known him for many many years um so proud to have him on stage with gold city you're glad to see mr chris west this morning over here singing the lead uh bruce and i we grew up in gadsden um we didn't grow up together i tell folks all the time and nobody really gets it that we went to separate schools together see when you tell them they're not going to get it they get it or they just laugh just to make you feel good one night i said we were singing somewhere and i was talking and i i said y'all get that on the way home and this guy on the front row said we got it it just ain't funny that was funny but we met right out of high school we met at a gold city concert uh of all things and uh became fast friends always shared a passion for this music and i'm so glad that we get to sing together with gold city y'all glad to see mr bruce talafero thank you very much the guy sings baritone for us and runs this group his dad tim reilly uh started this group 1980. we're in our 41st year of ministry with gold city and his dad retired back in about 15 or 16 and turned this group over to danny and he just does a phenomenal job with it especially last year that was not an easy thing to do and so the pressure that fell on him but god's hand stayed on us and he led us through and then used this guy to do it and i know you're glad to see mr daniel o'reilly here at tallahassee first baptist this morning not long i want to do we want to do a song not long after uh day and i got to be friends uh he recorded this song uh with gold city he was not singing with them at the time but cut this song on a record that they were doing and when this song came out it immediately became a staple for gold city and uh he does an outstanding job singing it but the message that's in this song has never been more relevant than it is today for it says it's still the cross it's still the blood of jesus christ that sets all men free you listen to it still the cross it's not conservative or liberal however they're defined it's not about interpretation or the judgment of the mind it's the opposite of politics power or prestige it's about a simple message and whether we believe it's still the cross it's still the blood of power that cleanses sin [Music] and sets the captive free it's still the name [Applause] the name of jesus that has power to save the lost it's still now we can water down theology and preach a word to suit our needs we can justify sweet subtle lies that are wrapped in noble deeds and we can alter our convictions to adapt to social wills but we cannot change the gospel for the truth contained within it's still the wrong still the blood of calvary that cleanses [Music] the name of jesus that has power to say [Music] history but the cross of jesus still remains the price for sin [Music] that sets us free it's still [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] it's still the cross i want to thank you for what jesus christ accomplished on the cross [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] i have a third foundation that is strong instead his name is jesus the rock i'm standing on but when this world all around me isn't turmoil i have a shelter in which to hide in the middle of the raging storm i can rest in peace for the lord is standing faithful by my side [Music] [Applause] [Music] foundation that is his name is jesus the rock i'm standing on a mighty fortress in the time of trouble safely in his refuge alibi when trouble comes across in it like the rolling sea he's family holding back the time [Applause] foundation that is strong instead his name wonderful day for us uh so far we had to sing at 8 30 this morning we did as as in the am not 8 30 last night that was 8 30 this morning and so uh and danny of course he picked the highest songs that we sing for us to sing at 8 30 this morning i'm sorry i wasn't awake wake up yeah we appreciate that danny so uh but thank y'all to your staff and everyone for having us here we've just uh enjoyed our day so much and according to what they told us about lunch the best is yet to come and so uh in the form of in the form of rib eyes so we can't we can't wait we're going to sing these last few songs real fast so we can get done and and and go eat those rib eyes but listen it's wonderful to be able to come in god's house with his people and worship him in spirit and in truth it's even better to know that when we come and worship him and we call on his name and we pray to him we speak his name that we're saying that to someone who has risen today who hears us the bible says he's as close as the very mention of his name that he's an ever-present help in time of need and we just come through a year that if that didn't build your faith and your dependency on him i'm not sure what will because we had everything that makes us comfortable ripped away from us church school outside functions ball games sports all of that stuff that we kind of identify ourselves with all of it was taken away and we were placed in our homes and so if you had to worship him you were gonna have to do it yourself and thank god there was online opportunities and things like that but i hope over this last year we all took this opportunity to grow closer to him and that we found last year is though it was tough and we lost loved ones but we saw it as an opportunity to turn our dependence back to him to lean not to our own understandings but in all of our ways acknowledge him and he'll direct our paths he said we're about to celebrate easter just a few come short weeks we're in a moment he changed everything for every person in this room in a moment he changed your life when we went bound from hell to in three words when he said it is finished at that moment he promised us all heaven and i don't ever want to take that for granted what he did for us on calvary and that's what this next song talks about that what he did on the whipping post by dragging that cross down the via dolorosa and being nailed between two thieves and raising himself victorious on the third day he did it one time and he did it for all just imagine all the sin this world has ever known all the bitter seed that ever will be sown was placed upon a man the one and only christ who suffered on the cross on which i should have died once and for all the savior came to give his life away to save the lost to fight and win the war of love and hate we pay the cost that only he himself could ever [Music] once and for all the angry mark below they watched him cry his final cry they didn't realize what just took place before their eyes then the earth began to tremble as the darkness said holding the awesome sacrifice is now complete jesus broke the chains of sin once and for all the savior came to give us alive a way to save the lost he paid the cost that only he himself all the love he had within himself overcame the fear [Music] defeated [Music] [Music] [Music] that only he himself i [Music] but i'm rich in faith and the hope and love i got more than my shed i'll be moving to my major just over in glory where i'm a rightful leader i'm a rich in faith and [Music] [Applause] [Music] i believe i own at least one and i stand in a basement to see his face knowing that i'm his son but i'm rich in faith and a hope and love i got more than myself he's watching me he'll go everywhere [Music] [Music] yesterday for voice lessons we've almost got them where they need to be amen they're going to sing one more song but before they do uh bruce you misheard me earlier it's not rib eyes i said round steak which is a baloney so we're going to have a baloney sandwiches when we're done so uh listen uh these guys could be anywhere this morning okay they could be anywhere you've heard how talented they are they could be singing any kind of music they want to and yet they choose to serve the lord with the talents that he's given them and so i'm going to ask you to do something this morning okay i'm going to ask you to make sure that we give them a good a good talented welcome and our love offering okay would you like for them to come back i would love for them to come back and uh i would really like not to have to serve on bologna sandwiches so uh the the better the love offering is the better the food will be okay is that a deal okay all right so they're gonna sing one more and uh as you go just uh just drop your uh offering there but i do wanna share something with you this morning you know the lord gave us the the bible and in his word is the good news the good news of the gospel of christ there are so many ways to share that the preached word is a great way but also through music and i thank god that he's given us the gift of music and i thank god this morning that these guys have stood up here and told different stories of the bible have told different stories of of things that go on in our lives things that we see things that happen things that go on through music and i thank them for that and maybe there's a song that they sang this morning maybe you're here and maybe you're saved and you heard a song this morning that said man you know what that right now in my life that that song really touched me and this morning i want to make this decision or i would really like to talk to somebody about joining the church i would like to talk to somebody about joining a sunday school class there's whatever that may be i have no idea but if that's you this morning one of us will be here brandon is back there barry's right here i'm i'll be around find one of us but more important than that if you're here this morning you know sometimes we come to church on a sunday morning and we look around and we think everybody here is saved but i want to tell you maybe you were here this morning you've been hearing these words all of your life maybe you grew up in church and maybe you've heard these words all of your life but this morning for the first time it was real and maybe for the first time you felt the tugging of the holy spirit on your life to say you know what i never have made that decision i know i know who jesus is but i don't know him i've never trusted him as my lord and savior let me tell you something don't be scared about that this morning everybody in this room these men up here all of us will rejoice with you today and we'll give jesus all the glory okay if that's you today find me find brandon find brother barry find one of our deacons find one of these men they'll be glad to share the good news of christ with you and help you to be saved this morning and we would give jesus all the praise and all the glory we're going to close a little bit different today we're going to let them sing one more song and then at the conclusion of that you will be dismissed how about one more talisy welcome for gold city this morning thank you thank you i want you to know it's been such an honor to sing for you this morning we've had you know it's our prayer every time we go out and sing that god would take ordinary guys like us and this great music and use it to be an encouragement to his people and to point those who are not saved to the cross and it's our prayer this morning that you've been encouraged and whatever you've been dealing with this week and that you'll face a monday with a little extra pep in your step that's our prayer i want to let you know real quick i won't go into detail but we do have some music out there if you'd like to take some some of our music home with you we have cds back there we also have some t-shirts that on the front it says all my hope is in jesus on the back it has the entire chorus to that song great way to let folks know where you stand in your life and i wear i've got probably five of those t-shirts because i have a little end with the people that sell them but i wear that shirt all the time and everywhere i go people say i like your shirt you know it's just immediately you think okay we're brothers we're sisters or brothers anyway we have all that back there our t-shirts are twenty dollars or cds or twenty dollars we have some packages and whatnot if you're interested in some of that go by and get it we're gonna do one more song for you this is the song that gold city has been most known for and it becomes more relevant every single day more timely folks i believe that at any moment we can hear the midnight cry i hear the sound of a mighty rushing went [Music] and it's closer now let it i can almost hear the trumpet as gabriel's house the call [Music] at the midnight cry here's the good news it says we'll be going home when jesus [Music] dead is christ shall [Music] those that rise [Applause] will be quickly when jesus comes i look around me and i see prophecies their whole feeling [Music] and the signs of the ties they're appearing i can almost [Music] at midnight cry whoa listen saints the bride of christ we're rise when jesus is [Music] shall rise [Music] [Applause] we'll be quickly jesus comes again [Applause] [Music] [Applause] with at the midnight cry when jesus comes [Music] jesus comes again [Applause] when my jesus [Applause] amen remain standing with us if you would please heavenly father we thank you so much for today we thank you for your presence because in your presence there is fullness of joy and we need joy we need your joy we need your peace we need your love in our lives today as we leave this place today father help us to leave here challenged and changed ready to move outside of the walls of this sanctuary and go into the highways and the hedges and compel them to come unto you help us to just live our lives that people see you in us not so much by our words but by our actions father and last the old hymn says let others see jesus in me thank you so much for this church and what they mean to this community help them to be a lighthouse that the weary and the hurting can run into and be saved father we pray that big things happen for this church in 2021 that they reached goals and obtained goals that they didn't even know they could obtain that they reached lost people in this community in this county and this city that children begin to know and understand about jesus that families are mended and put back together that broken hearts are fixed that sick people are healed and that lost people are saved through the ministries of this church bless us as we leave here today watch overs protect us keep us safe until we come back to your house again and we ask all these
