Fatima: The Facts

as father Gruner said on John Venn re-edit er of Catholic family news I'm the first speaker of the day and we pretty much start these conferences with what I call we get to the court story time or we call it Fatima 101 just the basic facts of Fatima so that everybody is starting at the same spot knowing the overall Fatima message so I'm just going to be telling you pretty much without commentary the message of Fatima the events that took place at Fatima that brought us here today so the operations of Fatima started with the apparition of an angel in spring or early summer 1916 mm3 peasant children Jacinta age 6 her brother Francisco age 8 and her and the cousin Lucia age 9 they were playing in the hill country of Portugal and suddenly the children saw a light whiter than snow in the shape of a transparent young man who was more brilliant than a crystal struck by the Rays of the Sun as you know or as I think you know the message of Fatima started with the apparition of an angel 19:16 and Lucy said as he approached we began to see his features he was a young man of great beauty about 14 or 15 years old we were surprised and ecstatic we did not utter a word and he stopped in front of the children he said fear not I am the angel of Portugal pray with me and the angel prostrated himself his forehead touching the ground the three children instinctively imitated him and repeated the angel's prayer three times my god I believe I adore I hope and I love thee and I asked pardon of all those who do not believe do not hope and do not do not add or do not hope and do not love thee so what's the first thing that the angel taught the children reparation key theme of the Fatima message reparation and the angel said pray thus the hearts of Jesus and Mary are attentive to the voice of your then he disappeared and sister Lucy said he felt he left a supernatural atmosphere and the children told no one what they had seen so the angel returned in mid-summer the children after sheltering the sheep against the hot Sun they were lounging in the shade of a fig tree and Lucy says suddenly we saw the angel right beside us and the angel admonished them saying what are you doing pray pray very much the Holy Hearts of Jesus and Mary have merciful designs concerning you all for prayers and sacrifices constantly to the Most High and Lucy said how must we sacrifice and the angel said all for God a sacrifice of anything you can as an act of reparation for the sins with which he has offended and as a supplication for the conversion of sinners draw a peace upon your country by doing this I am its angel Guardian the angel of Portugal above all except an endure with submission whatever sufferings the Lord sends you again the children told no one what they had seen then in the fall use me then in the fall of 1916 an angel appeared again for the third and last time he found this time he found the children prostrate on the rocky hollow in the hills and they were praying the prayer of the angel had taught him on taught them on their first visit and Lucy writes in her memoirs an extraordinary light shone upon us we sprang up to see what was happening and we beheld the angel he was holding a chalice in his left hand with the hose suspended above it from which some drops of blood fell into the chalice leaving the chalice suspended in the air the angel knelt down beside us and made us repeat three times Most Holy Trinity Father Son and Holy Ghost I adore thee profoundly and I offer thee the most precious body blood soul and divinity of Jesus Christ president all the Tabernacles of the earth and in reparation for the insults sacrilegious and in frizzes with which he has offended and through the infinite merits of the most sacred heart and of the Immaculate Heart of Mary I beg of thee the conversion of poor sinners so the angel arose he gave the sacred host to Lucy was she consumed and the chalice he gave to Francisco and Jacinta saying he said take and drink the body and blood of Jesus Christ who was horribly out insulted by ungrateful men make reparation for their crimes and console your God and after communion the angel and children prostrate to themselves and repeated three times the Most Holy Trinity prayer the one that I mentioned earlier the angel disappeared but the children remain prostrate in prayer for hours after the apparition and they said they felt a strong supernatural atmosphere and for whatever reason Francisco Francisco who had been present of all the apparitions he had been unable to hear if the Angels words he could only see what was happening so this brings us to May 13 1917 the first visitation of our Blessed Mother Lucy Francisco and Jacinta they attended morning Mass at st. Anthony's parish in Parkton Fatima afterwards they heard the Sheep towards the hills to the Cova they tended the sheep they ate lunch and they prayed the Rosary and they started to pray they started to make a little house out of a thicket and then they were startled by a brilliant flash of light this was followed by a second brilliant flash of light they didn't know what was going on because it sounded like thunder but there was no clouds in the sky it was it was a beautiful day they were scared they ran and then they stopped dead in front of what they now saw Lucy Francisco and Jacinta were standing in front of a home oak tree stands about three feet high off the ground on top of the tree as if it were resting upon it is a ball of light and in the center of that ball of light there was a lady a lady stood at the center of that light and Lucy said she was all dressed in right white more brilliant than the Sun and radiated a light more clear and intense than a crystal glass filled with sparkling water pierced by the burning rays of the Sun Our Lady wore a white tunic a white veil edged with gold covered her head hiding her hair and descending to her feet her hands were pressed together over her breast and prayer and a rosary hung from her right hand do not be afraid she said I will not harm you again Lucy and Jacinta hurt her Francisco dadada Jacinta did not speak to the lady only Lucia didn't Lucy said where does your grace come from from heaven Lucy the lady replied what does your grace want of me the lady answered I have come to ask you to come here for six months in succession on the 13th day on the same hour later I will tell you who I am and what I want and afterwards I will return here yet a seventh time Lucy said shall I go to heaven our lady said you will and Jacinta yes she will go also and Francisco yes our lady said but but he will have to say many rosaries now this makes us think firstly Francisco was only nine years old yes but he will have to say many rosaries so Lucy asked about two older girls she knew who had recently died and the lady said that one was in heaven and the other these are these are I think teenage girls other will be in purgatory until the end of the world then the lady asked are you willing to offer yourselves to God to endure all the sufferings that he may be pleased to send you as both an act of reparation for the sins with which he is offended and as an act of supplication for the conversion of sinners and Aunt Lucy answered yes we do the lady said then you will have much to suffer but the grace of God will be your comfort and that these last words the lady opened her hands for the first time and from them says Lucy again recording Lucy a most intense light penetrated our breasts reaching the innermost parts of the soul and making us see ourselves in God who was that light and Lucy said later moved by an inward impulse the three children spontaneously knelt and prayed Most Holy Trinity I adore thee my God my god I love thee in the Most Blessed Sacrament so the lady waited for them to finish the prayer and then said pray the rosary every day to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war world war one of course then rising in the air and moving eastward Lucy said she disappeared in the immensity of space now the children promised each other they wouldn't say anything to the apparition about anyone but as soon as little Jacinta got home she blurted it out to her family as soon as she walked in the door practically and was when Lucy his mother heard she was horrified she didn't believe the story she claimed that Lucy had made up the story and she scolded Lucy for being a little liar so we see within hours Our Lady's prophecy has come to fat pass you will have much to suffer as soon as they got home the suffering started so the lady comes again next month the children returned on June 13th of Attu as to what our lady requested was the feast of st. Anthony and the children were surprised to find that fifty people were there for June 13th word was spreading our lady appeared Lucy says what does your grace wish for of me the lady said I wish you to come here on the 13th of next month to pray the rosary each day and to learn to read later I will tell you what I won Lucy said I would like you to ask you to take us to heaven and the lady replied yes I will take Francisco and Jacinta soon but you are to stay here some time longer Jesus wishes to make use of you to make me known and loved he wants to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart - whoever embraces this devotion I promised salvation these soul shall be dear to God as dear to God as flowers placed by me to adorn his throne so a quick note again this is what the message of Fatima is all about reparation and the importance of devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary now Lucy of course was happy to hear about devotion to the Immaculate Heart but humanly speaking she was devastated to learn that Jacinta and Francisco would soon be taken from her am I to stay here all alone she asked no my daughter if the lady said do you suffer a great deal do not lose heart I will never forsake you my Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God and Lucy recalls as our lady spoke these words she hope she opened her hands for the second time and she communicated to us the rays of that immense light we saw ourselves in that light as it were and immersed in God Jacinta and Francisco seemed to be in the part of the light that rose to heaven and I in that which was poured out upon the earth and Lucy then describes Our Lady's immaculate heart she says in front of the palm of Our Lady's right hand was a heart encircled by thorns which pierced it we understood that this was the Immaculate Heart of Mary outraged by the sins of humanity and seeking reparation so this was the end of the June 13th apparition and years later sister Lucy said she believed that the purpose of Our Lady's second visit this is her speaking was to infuse within us a special knowledge and love for the Immaculate Heart of Mary from that day onwards Lucy writes our hearts were filled with a more ardent love for the Immaculate Heart now Lucy's mother Maria Rosa she was annoyed the Lucy had returned to the Cova she was furious that many onlookers believed that was Our Lady appearing and when Lucy very timidly asked her mother to learn to read the mother scoff back she said a lot of matters to our lady that the likes of you note had her to know how to read and write so Lucy's mother took Lucy to the parish priest now the priest believed the Lucy was sincere but his fear that this whole manifestation was the work of the devil so Lucy was forbidden to go to the Cova her mother was harder on her than ever Jacinta professes go try to convince Lucy please come on July 13th and Lucy was out of it no but on the morning of July 13th Lucy suddenly felt compelled to go to the Cova and she went with Jacinta and Francisco and when they arrived this time at the apparition site they were stunned to see about 3,000 people or lady returned sister and Lucy said what does your grace want of me our lady said I want you to come here on the 13th of next month and continue praying the rosary every day in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary in order to obtain peace for the world and the end of the war because only she can help you now Lucy asks the lady her name and she requested that she work miracles that everyone believed that Our Lady was appearing there our lady said continue to come here every month in October I will tell you who I am and what I want and I will perform a miracle for all two so that all will see and believe then the lady instructed the children sacrifice yourself for sinners and say many times especially when you make some sacrifice oh Jesus it is for love of thee for the conversion of sinners and in reparation for the crimes committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary C we see always emphasizing devotion to the Immaculate Heart now we come to the vision of Hell and Lucy says as our lady spoke these words she opened her hands once more as she had done during the two previous months delay the rays of light seemed to penetrate the earth and we saw as it were a sea of fire plunged in this fire were demons and souls in human form like transparent burning embers all blackened did burnished bronze floating about in the conflagration now raised in the air by the flames that issued forth from within themselves this is horrifying together with great crowds of clouds of smoke now falling back on every side like sparks and a huge furnace without weight or equilibrium amid shrieks and groans of pain and despair with which horrified us and made us tremble with fear and Lucy says it must have been at this site that caused me to cry out as people say they heard me she goes on the demons could be distinguished by their terrifying and repellant likeness to frightful and unknown animals black and transparent like burning coals and Lucy wrote in her third memoir she said the vision only lasted a moment thanks to our good mother in heaven who in the first apparition had promised to take us to heaven were it not for that I believe we would have died of fear and fright and after the vision of Hell our lady said you have seen hell were the souls of poor sinners go to save them God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart if what I say to you is done many souls will be saved and there will be peace the war is going to end but if people do not cease offending God a worse one will break out during the reign of pius xi when you see a night illuminated by an unknown light know that this is the great sign given you by God that he's about to punish the world for its crimes by means of war famine and persecution of the church and of the Holy Father to prevent this I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart and the communion of reparation for the five for the first Saturday's if my requests are heated Russia will be converted and there will be peace if not she will spread her errors throughout the world causing Wars and persecution of the church the good will be martyred the holy father will have much to suffer various nations will be annihilated in the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph the Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me and a certain period of peace will be granted to the world in Portugal the dogma of the faith will always be preserved etc and that is the beginning of the third secret and after revealing the secret the lady concluded her instruction to the children do not tell this to anybody Francisco yes you may tell them you may tell him when you say your rosary say every say after each mystery oh my Jesus forgive us from sin save us from the fires of hell lead all souls to heaven especially those who are in most need so that concludes the July 13th apparition then on August 13th the date of the next apparition Freemasonry enters the picture on August 13th the children were kidnapped by the administrator of Orem a free Nate a freemason named ortero the Olivieri Santos the anti-clerical government had been suppressing and persecuting the church and the last thing that the Masonic government wanted was an upsurge in popular devotion due to these apparitions so the administrator tried to get the children to deny the story that didn't work he threatened to boil the children in oil if they did not deny the story that didn't work he tried to have the children contradict one another in their recounting of the story that didn't work so he released the children on August 15th so then on August 19th Francisco and his older brother John returning sheep in a place called Valley knows near August rel and after a time Lucy was there too Lucy noticed that if Lucy and Francisco noticed the air had cooled and they felt the same sensations that they did prior to Our Lady's previous appearances and they looked at each other they knew our ladies coming so Francisco said to the brother John go get Jacinta so he went to get Jacinta a little eight-year-old Jacinta comes running towards running towards them and it's as if our lady waited for Jacinta to arrive because once Jacinta arrived then our Lady appeared Lucy again said what does your grace want from me I want you to continue going to the Cova on the 13th and continue praying the rosary every day in the last month I will perform a miracle so that all may believe now Lucy asked for the healing of some sick people she knew and the lady said that she would heal some of them some of them would be cured and here our lady looked sad lucy said she recommended anew the practice of mortification saying pray pray very much and make sacrifices for sinners for many souls go to hell because they have no one to sacrifice and to pray for them so now we move to September 13th each time the crowd is growing now we have 30,000 people gathered Our Lady appears for the children again sister Lucy asks what does your grace want continues to say the Rosary to obtain the end of the war a lady said in October our Lord will come as well as our lady of sorrows and our Lady of Mount Carmel Saint Joseph will appear with the Child Jesus to bless the world and Our Lady continued she said God is pleased with your sacrifices she's talking to the children God is pleased with your sacrifices he doesn't want you to sleep with the Rope but only wants you to wear it during the day she was referring to Lucy had found this thick bristly rope on the streets of algae's Dale and the children had cut it in three and they put it around their waist and they tied it against their skin tied it very tightly to the point it would make you sin to cry and they would wear it to bed and the children couldn't even sleep and this was only one of the mortifications regularly practiced by the little children now Lucy mentioned to our lady the many requests for healings that she had received and the lady said interesting answer she said yes I will cure some but not others because our Lord does not trust them so Lucy presented some gifts saying I've been given these things do you want them and the lady replied she said these are not needed in heaven and she said again in October I will perform a miracle so that all may believe and she rose and disappeared now this time a shot rang out because many in the crowd saw a kind of luminous globe rising and disappearing towards the east and this was also accompanied by what was called a rain of flowers these small petal like objects the in white they would that would that would come down and as they got close to the ground they would disappear so not everyone saw these things but a lot of people and word really spread about the miracle that they had seen and the great miracle that was promised for October 13th and that's what we come to now October 13th seventy thousand people came seventy thousand people came to the apparition sight it had rained all night the ground was soaked they people the pilgrims soaked to the skin outside teeming rain and the midst of this as promised our lady appears what do you want of me the lady said I want a chapel built here in my honor I want you to continue to say the Rosary every day the war will end soon and the soldiers will return to their homes Malusi said will you tell me your name and our lady said I am the Lady of the Rosary and there was this reverent silence by Lucy after that and then she said I have many petitions from many people will you grant them and our lady again said some I will grant others I must deny people must amend their lives and ask pardon for their sins they must not offend our Lord any more for he is already too much offended and this point our lady began to rise slowly and here we had this now at this point the great miracle of the Sun where seventy thousand people witnessed this miracle seventy thousand people saw the Sun danced in the sky spin-off colors and then plummet towards the earth these witnesses including jacinta's father they say they were horrified he said the Sun began to move and danced into a seam that it was being detached from the sky and was falling on us it was a terrible moment now according to the witnesses the miracle lasted about eight minutes and then reached the Sun as it were returned to its place in the sky and the ground another part of this miracle the ground that had been saturated by the rain was all was dry and the pilgrims closed they were right after the miracle they were dry and clean clean and dry after being soaked to the skin during the great miracle of the Sun witnesses say they could look directly at the Sun without it hurting them or blind them in any way and the miracle was even reported many of you know this by the liberal anti-clerical Masonic newspaper Oh secular the reporters had gone there to laugh to jeer to mock this miracle that wasn't going to happen and the 70,000 people consecration and true to her word she appeared to Lucy Spain jun 13 2014 to save russia now the consecration was not done and two years later august 19 1931 our Lord appeared to sister Lucy Andriano Spain and he's expressed his displeasure his as if we can call it his divine impatience at the Pope not heeding the request for the consecration he said make it known to by ministers that given that they follow the example of the King of France in delaying my commands they will follow him into misfortune as you know in the 17th century our Lord had told sister Margaret Mary to instruct the King of France to consecrate France to the Sacred Heart of Jesus promising that France will be protected by against its enemies the king did not do this and 100 years later France fell to the French Revolution and the King the successor was beheaded and our Lord is telling the Pope and the bishops that if they delay the consecration as did the King of France they will follow him into misfortune so Lister Lucy asked our Lord why he would not convert Russia without this consecration and here's the conversation our lay our the sister Lucy recorded from May 1936 on this point intimately I have spoken to our Lord about the subject and not too long ago I asked him why he would not convert Russia without the Holy Father making that consecration and jesus replied because I want my whole church to acknowledge that consecration as a triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary so that it may extend its cult later on and put devotion to the Immaculate Heart beside devotion to the Sacred Heart and Lucy said but my god the Holy Father will probably not believe me unless you move him with a special inspiration and the and our Lord answered the Holy Father pray pray a great deal for the Holy Father he will do it but it will be late nevertheless the Immaculate Heart of Mary will save Russia it has been entrusted to her so the points remember God wants to establish in the world devotion to the Immaculate Heart and we seem to have through our Lord's words we seem to have her prediction that there's something something will prevent the Pope will be some sort of obstacle that prevents the Pope from doing this consecration for a long time so I want to answer an objection here that sometimes made and it's the objection that says that the met the consecration of Russia was only to avoid World War two and since World War two has come and gone then the promise for the conversion of Russia doesn't doesn't apply over fifty five years ago July 15th 1946 the eminent author and historian William Thomas Walsh interviewed sister Lucy and it's recounted his magnificent work Our Lady of fátima and here this interview this interview took place after World War two and mr. Lucey is still talking about the absolute need for the consecration of Russia for the conversion of that nation mr. Walsh asked sister Lucy he said well here's that here's the recounting he says finally we came to the important subject of the 2nd July secret of which so many different and conflicting versions have been published this is something to consider 1940s there was already confusion different and conflicting versions regarding the 2nd July secret there was there was problems way back then 1940s so listen sister Lucy clarified she made it clear I'm quoting now Lucia made it plain that are laid he did not ask for the consecration of the world to her Immaculate Heart what she demanded specifically was the consecration of Russia she did not comment of course on the fact that Pope Pius the 12th had consecrated the world and not Russia to the Immaculate Heart in 1942 but she said more than once and with deliberate emphasis what our lady wants is that the Pope and all the bishops in the world shall consecrate Russia to her Immaculate Heart on one special day if this is done she will convert Russia and there will be peace if it is not done the errors of Russia will spread throughout every country in the world again she said this after World War two now there is the little also the little known revelation of our latest sister Lucy in the early 1950s it's recounted in pelegrin agio della maravilla a journal published under the auspices of the Italian bishops and the Virgin Mary appeared to sister Lucy in May of 1952 and said make it known to the Holy Father that I am always awaiting the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart without the consecration Russia will not be able to convert nor where the world have peace now in closing there's one final I want to make and that is to address the point of those who say that we don't have to believe in Father but because it is merely a private revelation this is not true this is not correct Fatima is in another category a higher category it's in that the category of a public prophetic revelation and this was explained by two highly respected theologians father Joseph de sainte-marie and Bishop Rudolph Graber of Germany they taught as I said Fatima a higher category than a mere private revelation first because the messages are public messages to mankind that contained that contain dire consequences if the messages are not heeded second the message was verified by God by the great miracle of the Sun witnessed by seventy thousand people and by prophecies that are still being fulfilled our Lady said I will perform a miracle so that all will believe and third the church has pronounced the message of Fatima is true it even has its own feast day May 13th and father Joseph de sainte-marie the eminent Carmelite theologian he died in the 1980s he used to teach here in Rome he said once the Pope has judged and recognized that a given prophecy is indeed from God then he must obey not as obeying the Prophet but as obeying God and Bishop Rudolf Graber author of Athanasius in the church of our time he said in 1968 he was very devoted to the Fatima message the bishop graver he said in 1965 a careful distinction should be made between personal revelation and those where the message is declared for mankind at large the former can with equanimity be ignored but the latter must be taken seriously and Fatima belongs to this latter category Fatima is not just a private revelation that we can take or leave it's in a higher category that of a public prophetic revelation and this revelation imposes an obligation on the church and an obligation all Catholics so to close in his 1946 book Our Lady of fátima William Thomas wall said the future of our civilization our liberties our very existence may depend upon the acceptance of her commands and this is the purpose of the fad of a challenge to symposium talking to people that that God wants me to talk to and so forth and we only all have 24 hours a day and I'm sure that my life is not as busy as the bishops in them and the Pope but we must make this priority number one there is nothing more serious nothing more important nothing more urgent than our lady's message at Fatima and this is something that I don't know how to say I remember getting a letter from a older bishop many years ago I think he was in Ottawa and he said to me basically in his letter father Gruner if you would not raise your voice so much if you would not yell at us we might start paying attention to you and I said wrote back to him and I said I appreciate very much your interest and your concern and your advice now if you can tell me how I can do that any better than what I'm doing and get the attention I'll be very happy to do it I hate yelling at people I hate raising my voice and I hate trying to draw attention to myself but there is no other way around on this message if there's something more important and certainly yesterday we were in this March for Life here in Rome and the number of people that are killed by abortion since about 1980 75 by the statistics we looked up is about 1 million three hundred thousand people and by war there's another 78 million people and in my government murder not only in Russia and China but other parts of the world 238 million people these are catastrophic and they lead us to think that we are as Pope Pius the 12th brother Pius the tenth seen positon said that we are in the days just before the coming of the Antichrist these proportion of these things that are happening to us which Pope Benedict when he was Cardinal Ratzinger said that refer to this Fatima message is found a sacred scripture that we
