Fast spinning wheels with tacky compound, all fun and games until a blade goes flying.

Issues in sharpening: temperature, apex formation and overpolishing, high level of skill advisable since mistakes go bad fast.

I'll stick to stones, make my edges as good as I can make them and not have a machine throw a knife at me if I can avoid it.

I've used paper wheels a couple times. They do the job, but I've only used them on cheap utility knives, never bothered practicing enough to feel confident to try it on a good knife.

They're quick, and do leave a really sharp edge. The one i have has SiC powder embedded in Elmer's glue on the wheel, not sandpaper like this one in the video, but it's the same basic premise.

As shown in the video, the wax on the surface over the abrasive really does do a pretty good job of keeping the heat down.

It's not my preferred method, and I never think to recommend it to anyone, but I'd go with this over belt grinder sharpening, no question.
