Family Travel 2021 to ALASKA!! 🦌 🐻 (with a WIRED 4 year old)

finally after surviving the long drawn-out year of 2020 we were taking our first ever major family vacation and our little four-year-old couldn't have been more excited in case you didn't notice he chattered our ears off the entire way my husband nolan and myself janine we're finally getting to check off a destination that has been on our bucket list for years the grand state of alaska so join us over the next few episodes as we experience the thrill of float planes get up close to wild alaskan brown bears do lots of fishing and of course the greatest of all adventures going to as xander would call it the bouncy place thank you so much this is just crazy i would have thought that traveling by now would be full but it's just empty we went through right through security and everything in just a couple minutes it's amazing [Music] [Music] welcome to anchorage local time it's 7 41 pm we're going to alaska we're at alaska we're in alaska [Music] so let's go come on come on let's [Music] i think we should move i think so it's like midnight our time at home what 8 o'clock 8 30 here and it's just like middle of the afternoon not quite i'm not all that tired i had a red bull in fairbanks somebody has so much energy i don't think anyone's going to be settling down anytime soon you are wired to a whole other level oh since we had all caught our second win despite the long travel day we decided to go walking around anchorage let xander burn off some energy at a playground and just take in the local sights this whole midnight sun thing was really messing with our internal clock it's 10 o'clock sun's behind a cloud but it'd be similar to probably seven at home [Music] uh it's just such a crazy feeling my clock is completely turned around so we're headed back to our hotel it's probably like three in the morning our time something like that two in the morning our time crazy [Music] it's a new day we are all trying to wake up but this cold crisp fresh air feels amazing anyway we're just kind of exploring around anchorage then we're gonna head down to the kanai peninsula to our house we explored ship creek in hopes of catching a glimpse of some salmon but it was a bit early for the run so we splashed the frigid water on our faces to wake up talked to a local fisherman worked at a nasty splinter stuck in a little foot and then went to point ronzo for an epic rock throwing adventure let's just say when one travels with a child the activities you'll seek out vary quite drastically than those of adult vacations however the benefits of family travel is that children help open our eyes to the small wonders that lie around every corner such as a beach covered in millions of absolutely perfect throwing rocks what what did you do look a little like a little raw chair okay let me see it look at that you're making a bigger rock chair yeah okay that is a nice chair someone might sit on it any wise words from a four-year-old but stories like love stories the plane float planes that are going in and out of here it's just crazy like really every couple minutes one takes off one's landing pretty neat we kept seeing all these little planes flying in and out and i know there's like a hub where like these float planes land so we're heading over to lake hood where supposedly a lot of them are i think this will be interesting [Music] water [Music] we came down to this lake where all the float planes are landing it is so fascinating to us and we can honestly just spend the whole day here watching them take off and land i feel like a little kid especially with all the photo ops i mean the mountains are just breathtaking and everywhere you point your camera is like a good picture this is the kind of entertainment we enjoy free just seeing the local culture xander loves it we love it this is so interesting here like there's just hundreds of like float planes and bush planes small planes that they park everywhere just walking around each place is kind of this little dock yeah it's just fascinating [Music] i'm pretty sure if we got a float plane and an old peck up janine would come to alaska with us you mean here permanently yeah look at that everybody has the guy's mouth and eyes that's pretty cool they i think this plane has a mouth and eyes ever since i can remember i've had like a crush on old trucks i would love if we could own one someday anyway it's also a dream of mine if i could get my pilot's license but that seems a little bit out of reach because it's so expensive and is it really practical i mean just to get my license for the fun of it when it costs so much to especially not just the license but flying uh if i'd live in alaska i would definitely work at getting my license [Music] [Music] again [Music] once we finally had our film watching planes and looking at old pickups we got into our rental car and headed for our airbnb in surotna the drive was two hours and 45 minutes of breathtaking scenery [Music] stay up all night and sleep we'll be there before long mom and dad are getting a coffee hey i was trying to be good with coffee before we came not drinking it but now i need coffee a little bit blue because the whole forecast almost that we're here is calling for rain which i know is pretty common in alaska cloudy with chance of rain but man i was hoping for some sunshine hopefully it'll be okay especially on the day that we're planning to go see the bears yes bears catch fish bears catch fish yeah they do how's it going good how are you guys good is it good yeah this is the place we're staying at it's just amazing if you ever come here we are i think it's kind of between sterling and knight this place is beautiful and it's like a two-bedroom two-bath apartment um sharing a house with some others but you have the suite all to yourself so we're here for four nights so excited i was not expecting this river to be this big and this fast flowing but we were loaned two fishing poles by the owner here so yeah we're gonna have to try to do a little salmon fishing she's super nice super helpful came out i was a little bit worried about this river she had a life jacket for xander the house is so clean and beautiful we're helping her out a little bit with some photos and stuff i hope i can do it all justice and what's really cool is the house is just up there behind us and you walk down these steps straight to this amazing river beautiful clear cold weather here man it feels good i just hope we get some more sunny weather but yeah to try some fishing apparently to fish for i don't know if it's all the salmon or they don't actually use a bait it's like a what amounts to a piece of yarn that's tied to like a fly um that's what they use to catch fish with so this will be exciting renting an airbnb is our preference especially as a family because when traveling with small children it's nice to have a home base to relax and take naps if needed the following day was pretty low-key we spent a lot of time at our house recuperating from travel cool cat oh a gorgeous day we are pretty much just chilling for most of the day here at our place hanging out down by the water trying to pretend we know how to fish we don't it's yarn [Music] walking by your door together we could see [Music] me you know since it was raining part of the day we decided to have a little surprise for xander and take him somewhere he had really wanted to go there's a big bouncy house in there with a bouncy slide that we're going to take you to [Music] here [Music] uh so it's really cold and rainy and windy outside but it looks like it's breaking up and sun's coming but we saw this like recreation center with jumpy things for xander and he is just in his glories perfect for burning off some of his energy he's loving this we're not gonna superheroes but we're going the biggest time what is that it's my mom's cockpit i'll take it's blue it's blue that's right this is where we start buddy wow okay so what you do which ball would you like i think the last time we mini-golfed was uh when we were dating and now we have a four-year-old son [Music] that's close okay pick it up and hang on i'm so excited the sun's shining the sun's shining like it's sunny outside yeah do you want a candy kid you're a sunny kid we ended our day with dinner in town what did you get spaghetti and stopped alongside the road to watch a herd of caribou meander through the brush do you see them see their horns buddy look out here get out and look at the caribou yeah oh let's go look at him you see him buddy yeah what do you think their names are named um i bet that little one if you want to ride along with us on our first ever float plane adventure make sure to come back next
