alluding to that earlier this is really easy if god has done absolutely nothing for you guess what you get a free clean slate tonight you get to sit there and do absolutely nothing if god has done nothing for you but if god has done a little bit for you we're going to ask that you give god a little bit of praise because the bible says praise him according to his excellent greatness that means in proportion to how great he is so nothing no praise a little bit give a little praise a medium amount give him a medium amount of praise a lot give him a lot but if you know beyond a shadow of a doubt if it wasn't for the lord who was on your side i want community family church and those joining with us right now to give the kind of praise to god that's according to his excellent greatness i'm talking about all my life but he's been faithful kind of place shadow of death [Applause] i feel his presence in the house tonight because he inhabits the praises of his people when you can't feel god all you gotta do is praise him according to his excellent greatness praise it with the sound of the trumpet crazy with the tremble and dance praise it with string instruments and organs praising with the sultry and harper praising with the praise loud symbols the high shining symbols everything everything i said if it's a thing i said if it's a thing i didn't ask if he wants to or not but if and praise and honor him and while the ministry of pastor marvin winans is preparing the bible said in the book of joel in the last days i will pour out my spirit 1906 my great-great-grandmother was picking peas in the appalachian mountains she was a methodist her son was the sheriff i mean her husband was the sheriff and all at once the power of god fell on her and she lost her natural language he began speaking with other tongues her daughter my great-grandmother received the mighty power of the holy ghost all of her children were baptized in the holy ghost my grandfather's family moved out of the mountains up here to northern kentucky [Music] and got away from god my grandpa that is he had 16 brothers and sisters he was running from the lord and in 1953 my parents who are here tonight got married on august the 1st and a woman in the appalachian mountains had a vision [Music] of on route 16 and that's what this route is right in front of us tonight of green beans as far as the eye could see and god spoke to her and said there's a great harvest on route 16. go to route 16. she came to my grandfather's house knocked on the door had a prayer meeting and in that prayer meeting my grandfather came back to the lord of the results of that prayer meeting my grandmother my aunt bonnie aunt joyce aunt darlene uncle jerry my mother and my father and i'm just so grateful the church went from a prayer meeting to a tent from a tent to a chicken house from a chicken house to a barn that's where dad got salvation and then we went to had dug our first church which was a basement didn't have enough money brother there's poor appalachian people so they put plywood over the top and covered it with tar paper people ask me they say now are you the kind of pastor that has one of those churches that started with seven in your living room i said are you kidding i said our church was founded by appalachian migrants there wasn't a family in the church that had less than seven kids we always had a crowd hallelujah and god has blessed us but we're just so thankful because now from this hills of kentucky i've been pastor here for over 40 years this is my home church i was born and raised here and i give god praise right now at this very moment we usually have about usually have around 40 000 but they just sent me a note and says we're up to 45 000 tonight right now watching online [Music] but in the olden days they called us holy rollers and you know what they said that's all right i'm not going to sing again i i felt like i heard the words of that song but the rhythm got too fast for the the train was going faster than i could get it in there but it's such a privilege tonight for my parents who've been with the church through every stage and there's about two or three other people here or maybe a few more than that that have been here and i want my parents to stand i want to give them honor tonight and we just give god [Applause] thank you mom was the lead singer here we didn't really have somebody said well who led worship they didn't believe in that kind of stuff they prayed through before they came to church and they sung as they felt led and mom had a 30 inch ponytail and a shirtwaist dress so i said i love that your assistant there i said i don't know where you got that dress sister but it's a good one it's a pentecostal dress and it's old-fashioned but not out of style hallelujah praise the lord i'd like to ask my mother she'd testify tonight now mom mom is the old way somebody said how come you don't have your mom to sing i said well it's like this you can put her on the schedule but if she don't feel led to saying she's not gonna sing and you can ask her to testify like last night i asked her testify and she said i don't really know what to say but she did end up with something wonderful so mom if you don't do anything but say hello to everybody dad i'm not going to ask you the second time he don't usually say too much but you get him out of church he will talk amen mom testify tonight well the lord did give me a little something and i do love everybody that's what i've been praying recently every time god let me love everybody like you love god so loved the world i want to love his people i want to love all people and i thank him for his loving kindness and last night when brother perry stone was preaching and and he said that uh his wife had the covid and anyway in the hospital uh she had him to turn off all the news no news then she had him to make her a tape or something of all gospel singing and she started play playing that and the lord was bringing her out and at that time when this telling it reminded me of what god recently did in the hospital i had a blood clot passed through my heart into my lungs and they put one of those great big old c caps on me and for 16 hours but you know what happened [Applause] praise god hallelujah i heard music i thought it was coming through the earphones heard music it was choir and then it would be a single person and i lay there and listened to that music the whole time that i was on that ccap and the next morning in the hospital after they had taken that off of me about three o'clock in the morning well i i was laying there and all of a sudden and i was completely to myself i was not out and so then then there was music coming through the pa system and it was singing what what a day that will be praise god and then when perry was preaching i thought hold to god's unchanging hands all to god's changing hair oh [Applause] can stand [Applause] to god you ought to trust in him who will not leave thank you god's unchanged come on is oh come on [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] i don't need a formal introduction because i am at home i'm so glad [Music] good to be back here [Applause] told me about a month ago that i had gout so i had to i'm trying to change the way i eat i'm sure tonight ain't gonna help but i'm gonna be all right mama's watching so i got mama i'm gonna do right i'm gonna do right now i praise god for his kindness [Music] let's pray father in the name of the lord jesus it is the entrance of your word that bringeth light and life pray that the glorious light of the gospel of jesus christ would shine bright as always may the people be blessed by thee and never impressed by me calls through the revelation of thy word these thy peoples to see you more clearly to love you more dearly and to follow you more nearly now lord let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight oh lord my strength and my redeemer and every glad heart said amen while you're standing i want to give all of the honor the bible says that they that labor in the word are worthy of double honor so i right at that time somebody in my great-grandfather's church would stand up and say [Applause] they say just a little while to stay in just a little while to wait oh just a little while to labor in is and it's just we'll go sweeping 150-day revival ran by a woman named mother estella boy she would have been saying this after a while it'll all be over after wise dark clouds will pass over and we'll shout hallelujah is he taught me there may be some hills you'll have to climb your closest friend may forsake you but god will fix it all right after a while [Applause] oh your cup sometimes may get do i never i don't i don't even complete the hymns [Music] but now if you come to perfecting i sing a lot so i'm at home in independence kentucky i don't know how that happened acts the second chapter i want to read into your hearing the fifth through the twelfth verse and we will extrapolate our subject from the twelfth verse if you have it indicate by shouting amen here the beginning of the reading of god's word and their dwell and they were dwelling at jerusalem jews devout men out of every nation you can underline that out of every nation under heaven now when this was noised abroad the multitude came together and were confounded because that every man heard them speak in his own language yes sir and they were all amazed and marveled saying one to another behold are not all these which speak galileans and how here we every man in our own tongue or dialect wherein we were born parthians and medes and elamites and the dwellers in mesopotamia and in judea and cappadocia in pontus in asia foregira and pampholia we're getting over to africa now in egypt and in the parts of libya about serene and strangers of rome jews and proselytes cretes and arabians we do hear them in our tongues the wonderful works of god [Applause] 12th verse and they were all amazed and were in doubt or in question here was the question saying one to another what meaneth this and they're all amazed and in and we're in doubt saying one to another what meanest this tonight's lesson will be an attempt to answer the question of all those that were in attendance at that feast of pentecost would you turn to your neighbor and say with me our subject say neighbor i will tell you [Music] what it means would you look at the neighbor on the other side and say neighbor you hear what i say i will tell you what it means you may be seated [Music] [Applause] please [Applause] me i will tell you what it means there are three things i want to talk to you about and i'll be through because i'm way past my time [Applause] what was an oil what was noise about was the in filling of the 121 120 saints that had obeyed jesus and loved jesus enough to gather in an upper room for 10 days after his ascension into heaven and to stay there they were all in one place at one time what was necessary was that they were on one accord and the bible says suddenly when you got 120 people and you got them on one accord you got to move quick suddenly there came a sound from heaven and it filled ishkata hallelujah i don't know if i'm gonna get through this or not it filled the house where they were sitting and the bible says that there appeared unto each of them clothing tongues like as a fire it was above each of them there was a sound like a rushing mighty wind and then it said this without exception that they were all filled with the holy ghost and without exception it says and they all not they didn't have a choice well you know what you know i like jesus but i don't want all of that what they doing over there family community and all that speaking and all that they were all filled with the holy ghost and they all somebody hollered back in me all and they all spake with tongues as the spirit of god gave them utterance or the ability to speak that's what marveled then it was not jibber-jabber it was a heavenly language i'm gonna get there in a minute just give me a few more minutes the ones that were in question well the ones that had not met jesus the ones that were in question were the ones that had not followed him for three and a half years they were not with him when he told him to go back to jerusalem and terry so they wondered what was happening but isn't it wonderful those that were receiving it had no question i'm going to preach in a moment you shouldn't allow the questions and the ambiguity of others to make you question what god said was yours whether you're in the backyard or on a college campus you ought to know what god well let me let me get to this what does it mean well the first thing we'll talk about it means the fulfillment of prophecy this is first mentioned in exodus 23 and 16 yet i will read from exodus 34 22 which says and thou shalt observe the feast of weeks of the first fruits of wheat harvest at the years in and in the jewish language this is known as shavuot s-h-a-v-u-t-o i mean s-h-a-v-u-o-t shavuot in english it's known as the feast of weeks or as pentecost so that's why all of them were there because it was the feast of weeks or the feasts of pentecost and god told them don't come to pentecost empty-handed i just thought i'd throw that in he told you we need to get rid of a dollars and i'm sowing into that but you don't come into hand it you bring god what he's blessed you with now work no worthy of note is the fact that in orthodox rabbinic traditions they teach that the date of shavuot also marks the revelation of the oral torah to moses on mount sinai so this is the season of the time when god spoke to moses and gave him hallelujah what is known as the ten commandments but he talked to him through everything and seems like god just like speaking during this time but i i'll get to that a little later pentecostal also symbolically takes us to a place of redemption let me explain in genesis the eleventh chapter the sixth through the eighth verse it reads and the lord said behold the people is one and they have one language and this they began to do and now nothing will be restrained them from them which they have imagined to do go to let us go down and confound their language that they may not understand one another's speech so the lord scattered them abroad from fence upon the face of all the earth and they left to build the city notice what luke tells us in acts 5 2 and 5. and there were dwelling at jerusalem jews and devout men here we go out of every nation out of every nation under heaven now here at shavuot or at pentecost we now have every nation represented as was in the case of genesis the difference being in genesis god came down and he confounded their language to scatter them but in acts he uses the language of the holy ghost to bring them together so one it is the fulfillment of prophecy two this action means the fulfillment of promise for in acts one four and five it reads and being assembled together with them he commanded them that they should not depart from jerusalem but wait for the promise of the father which saith he ye have heard of me for john truly baptized with water we got that but ye shall be baptized with the holy ghost [Music] not many days hints jesus makes it very plain that they are not to do anything before they receive the promise of the father preached at a traditional baptist church on pentecostal sunday a few years ago in texas and what i told him was that the holy ghost cannot be held down to a denomination [Applause] the holy ghost isn't just or pentecost isn't just 40 days after the resurrection it's a promise it's not just a plank in a religious platform it's a promise turn to your neighbor and tell them say neighbor go get your promise if you haven't been filled with the holy ghost you're living beneath your problem [Applause] for john the baptist promised in john 3 and 11 i indeed baptize you with water unto repentance but he that cometh after me is mightier than i whose shoes i am not worthy to bear he shall baptize you with the holy ghost and with fire look at somebody tell them go get your promise go get your promise joel promised in joel 2 28-29 and it shall come to pass afterward that i will pour out of my spirit upon all flesh and your sons lord have mercy and your sons and your daughters it's wonderful me to stand here and hear the pastor talk about his great-grandmother's grandmother his mother and these children and their grandchildren it's for you and your children i don't care where your son is today why don't you lift up your right hand and say my son my daughter i don't care where they are you gotta believe that the promise i got saved when i was 11 years old i prayed for my children before i had a girlfriend that i didn't want in him my children to be born and go to hell so i told lord god save all my children fill them with the holy ghost you can't make me ashamed of the holy ghost you can't make me shame being called a holy roller before we knew all of the fancy words the pentecostal or charismatic or any of that stuff we was just a sanctified church we were them folk that believed the bible that believed if he did it back then he'll do it again your sons and your daughters shall prophesy your own men shall dream dreams your young men shall see visions and upon the servants and upon the handmaidens in those days will i pour out my spirit tell somebody it means it means fulfillment of prophecy we've learned that they didn't know what it meant but it means fulfillment of prophecy and fulfillment of promise i love serving god because he always keeps his promise god is not slack [Applause] concerning his promise as some men count slackness but he's able i said he's able everything god has promised he's able to perform [Applause] there's so much more to this text but i'm going to stop with this one what does it mean look at your name and say neighbor i just learned it meant the fulfillment of prophecy and i just learned it meant the fulfillment of promise tell your neighbor the last thing i'm going to learn tonight about this is that is the fulfillment of paternity [Applause] it's the fulfillment of paternity paternity is the state of being someone's father [Applause] folk often ask how do you know which religion is the right one being that there are over 3 000 religions in the world today i would consider that a fair question now i don't mean to come off crass i think that in the years that pastor tommy has been shepherded he said 40 years so he's been doing this longer than me he may have run into a case or two like where an unsuspecting man is told that he is the father of a child and he had no idea it was his i've only had this happen to me twice in the 32 years i've been pastoring the truth is that it is not a matter that cannot easily be cleared up especially with today's medical technological breakthroughs years ago they would look at a child sideways to try to gauge the head size or the color of their eyes or the nose to try to come up with the right parent all of those might have eventually come to pass but when the child is just a few hours old it's hard to tell but the sure way is to take a blood test [Applause] because the blood don't lie well i'm i'm ready to come home now jesus told nicodemus in john 3 and 6 that which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the spirit it was capitalized it was the holy spirit that which is born of the spirit is spirit [Applause] the holy ghost [Applause] is means it means the fulfillment of paternity the paul the apostle paul says it best in romans 8 and 9. but ye are not in the flesh but in the spirit if it so be that the spirit of god dwell in you i'm going to take my time with that he said to not of the flesh but to love the spirit but let's qualify this whatever you want to say the blood don't lie but if it comes back with no relations they can't pick up the attributes of the blood that is in the father they say you are not the father and he runs all on the inside yes sir [Applause] [Music] [Applause] it really disturbs me when people relegate the move or the sound of the holy ghost to a black church and then try to trace it to some african ancestry or some voodoo spirit [Music] oh lorna i've seen some documentaries on the black church and i tell the trail try to trail folks there never was a black church there was only the church of the lord jesus that's the reason when i come to family community church in independence kentucky i feel at home oh lord not because somebody was trying to act like they came from a black church but i felt the authenticity of the spirit of god oh lord i don't know where you come from but when i got filled with the holy ghost my hands went up the shaking started to happen the bucking started happening the tongue started coming out nobody had to teach me to speak in tongues all they kept telling me was come back till you get it and when you get it you'll know you got it all i know [Applause] the holy ghost meant the entrance into the culture of the kingdom of god let me tell you something the world might try to make you feel isolated because you're in the appalachians or they may make you trying to make you feel isolated because you're in some pentecostal church but oh let me tell you something i've traveled around the world and everywhere that i go when they got the holy ghost it's the same spirit i was in seoul korea lord have mercy on the prayer mountain in pastor chose church and i was sitting there with earphones on because they were speaking and they had folk interpreting as he was preaching in korean but oh every now and then he would speak in tongues and i took that off i said i know what that preachers came and started laying hands they'd never been to my church but they was doing the same thing because it's that fulfillment of paternity i was in milwaukee wisconsin and a lady from japan had just got off the boat and she came up in the service where i had to preach and i'll never forget what she said she said i front japan and i don't speak english she said different language but same [Applause] spirit i got to close now oh lord but i want you to understand in the 17th chapter of john jesus was praying to the father and he told them lord make them one i'ma say that one more time lord make them one that was going to be the title of my message but look at your neighbor and say god i want god to make us one yes yes he said make him one just like i'm in you and you're in me we will be one in them that the world [Applause] that the world may know that you sent me oh lord it meant that god was sending his spirit into every nation of the world which means they ask the question what mean it is it means the end of rachel of racial and ethnic divide it means that we're no longer identified by the elephant of the gop or the donkey of the democratic party but we're identified with the kingdom of the lamb for i heard john said in revelation seven through nine after this be held and low a great company a multitude which no man can number of all the nations [Applause] all nations and kindreds and people and tongues stood before the throne and before the lamb are clothed with white robes and cried with a loud voice salvation to our god can we practice that here tonight somebody shout salvation to our god salvation to our god that's sitting on the throne and unto the lamb and then in the 14th verse it said sir thou knowest and said unto me these are they which came out a great try hallelujah and have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the lamb oh are you washed in the blood in the soul cleansing blood of the lamb are your garments spotless are they white as snow are you washed in the blood of the lamb look at your name and say neighbor i tell you what it means [Music] it means that salvation is come it means the victory the one it means i can return home in peace it means my family can be restored it means that prosperity has come it means heaven's joy has filled my soul it means that there's light beyond the grave it means that heaven has come to earth it means that if i should go by way of that marvelous light she got to testifying at her reception the holy ghost came on her in a beautiful elaborate setting she started speaking in the unknown tongue four people at the wedding got under conviction and were saved at the reception because of the outpouring of the holy ghost he's talking in tongues tonight [Applause] [Applause] baptizer with the holy ghost on fire [Music] you alone but was demons they was afraid of us out here they broke our windows out when we finally got windows and so the old-timers would sing [Music] they come in sometimes crying and they'd say oh if this ain't the holy ghost i don't know but it just did they say it greg from your grandpa's this ain't the holy ghost i don't know but it just suits me they say the holy ghost i don't know well i never have felt
