EXTREME KONMARI METHOD DECLUTTER - Before & After

hi I'm Donna and welcome to this new episode of Hoarders too much stuff not enough space yes my life has become a bad infomercial which is why it is time to Marie Kondo my entire life I've watched every episode of tidying up and what I've learned is the first and most important step to tithing your home is to give it a blessing to greet your house license no mayo pasta hora no naka de tidy up like Marie Kondo you do it in five different steps the steps are as follows close the papers kimono which includes bathroom kitchen and garage and then finally we have our sentimental items the first thing you do is take every item of clothing that you own and put it on your bed I'm gonna need a bigger bed here's my closet full of clothes so much so much so much so much so much so much clothes and I'm not mad at it I'm very grateful that I have such abundance I just want to go through them and make sure I'm only keeping things that really make me happy so first things first I'm throwing every item of clothing that I own onto my bed there you have it a mountain of clothes on the bed that's dad's shirt pink dress is this totally inspiring me to get back into shape because I have all these cute clothes I cannot wear right now but that's okay somebody's got some work to do they to wreak on doing just going through every one of these items now I've already gone through all my stuff and given away and thrown out stuff that I absolutely do not want but this time I'm gonna go through and just keep the things I absolutely love so if it's not an absolute love I'm selling it or getting rid of it lord give me strength I'm also trying to get rid of stuff that I haven't worn in years and years and years because even though I think it's cute and I like how it looks on me if I'm never gonna wear it lost it in my closet this one I absolutely love we're going to baby showers in this we're going to church in this keep love love this one's super cute I absolutely love it but it gives me be butt cleavage this is going in the sell pile cute black dress love this one's alike I can see myself wearing it again really really comfy in the summer it's nice and breezy but it's not an absolute love so I'm gonna sell it love love love love love love love forgot about and absolutely love I kind of feel like I'm doing this wrong because out of 17 items I'm keeping all these and I'm only selling three of these same thing here I've got this really cute black romper but it shows the be selling south-south love sell love this is a tough one I absolutely love this dress have so many good memories in it I just have no idea where I'll wear this these days this one I love I will keep I love it I love it love so I'm using a website called Poshmark where you can buy and sell used clothes I haven't worn them a ton there's still in really good condition and they're just really really cute clothes so I think that you guys might enjoy them so check out my Poshmark if you're the living room look at me and he's like this isn't the point you're supposed to love it okay yeah me too it's funny cuz we agree on literally everything I didn't even know I had this so cute score this is my present pile of clothing which is still so much to go through and I haven't really gotten rid of that much this is all I have so far to get rid of I have like a billion in one striped shirts so I kept my two favorites and I'm getting rid of these ones although they are super cute staying with the dresses bunch of cute stuff you're supposed to think thank you thank you thank you and thank you this was totally Alex's shirt and he's gonna get rid of it I'm like I want that it's cute throughout this one I know what do you think is it cute no it's not are you saying fat turns out I have this knack for buying the same shirt for different times I'm coming across a bunch of shirts that are similar colors and cuts and styles I'm gonna choose my favorite one I love all of them but I know I'm not gonna pick these two out of all three of these shirts so I'm going to put these in the sell piles it's so hard to pick favorites my little babies but I decided if I have a cup shirts that look similar I'm picking my very favorite one and getting rid of the rest again I have two shirts that are very similar they're both super duper cute there's no way I'm gonna choose this one over this one when I go to my closet so it's cute but it's going in the sell pile thank you good boy this is really good cuz I'm figuring out exactly what's in my closet so I don't buy the same shirts three times what do you know two of the same shirt I've made a pretty big dent half of the pile is gone on the bed turns out I love most of my clothes because I've hardly gotten rid of anything here's the pile of stuff I'm getting rid of got cute jean jacket they're all just super cute shirts I just have multiples of a lot of them or they're things I haven't worn in like four or five years feels good to get rid of a few things I'm almost done I just have a few more things to hang up have my hangar graveyard over here did I do laundry oh man you guys I totally forgot that I had like four loads of laundry I had to do now I have to Marie Kondo all over again Marie has a very specific way of folding remember to stand rom through your palms first fold the side at least fold the another side same way fold it in half we've a bit of gap fold it in thirds if you get a smooth rectangle like this you were doing it correctly which is quite brilliant because I've so many clothes that when I pull one out everything ends up on the floor so if you fold your clothes right you can just pull one out and the rest stay with it this just supposed to stay these are all my little camis just got them folded up nice so I can see them these have always just kind of sat in the back of my closet and I don't end up using them because they're in a pile I pull one out they all fall out this is just a box that was laying around my house so I use that to fold this stuff up so whenever I want a shirt I can just pull out this box good to go I was folding my underwear for a while but it just seems to get SuperDuper messy because it takes a lot of time I don't want to sit you're folding my underwear and putting it away so you guys have an idea of how to organize your undies let me know in the comments tab below finally done organizing my clothes it took me about a week to finish it completely I've been staying at my boyfriend's place so I could just leave all my clothes on my bed otherwise I probably want to clean it all in one night but the point is got it done this may not look like a closet of someone who purged a bunch of clothes I think a lot of people confuse the Marie Kondo method with being a minimalist I am NOT a minimalist nor will I ever be but I just got everything much more organized I know her everything's I I know everything I own and I folded everything so when you take one thing out it doesn't all fall off the shelf you can just easily put them back where they were and something I've been loving is using boxes to organize my stuff this is actually a lid to a shoebox have my hats belts and Sony's right there these things just end up scattered throughout my room so it's nice to have a designated spot and can just slide it right back in there same thing here I put all these shirts in this box so I can just slide them out same with these and I usually fold stuff so it stacks up right but when I pull something out everything falls out so this is really nice if I want these pair of pants everything stays relatively where it was before so I've got on my jeans pants overalls and before I had a bunch of shoes lined up right here and it's hard for me to get to these clothes so I ended up moving the games that were in this corner put them under my bed and I stocked my favorite sheet was up top so I can just grab them really quick then I put on my beanies and scarves in a basket it just makes everything look super clean and organized I also brought all my winter stuff to the front and I found some cute things that I didn't even remember having cuz they're kind of shoved in the back of my closet now let's check out my drawers no pun intended cuz drawers are your underwear get it alright in this drawer I have my bras and my underwear again if you have a good way to organize your underwear let me know lord knows I'm not going to keep folding it like this was way too time-consuming so I'll probably just throw it in this box bras are super easy to find in the next drawer I have all my bras and Bandos and bralets and swimming suit bottoms which I have so many of and then this drawer I have all my shorts so these are lined up color-coded I'll probably end up giving a bunch of these away they don't look at me right now but I'm gonna try them on at the end of my new 12e challenge and see how they're looking then and then I'll get rid of a few things cuz I have lots short here's my swimsuit drawer and then I have got my sock drawer I've been folding my socks like this and I really love it except for it stretches out the outside sock quite a bit so it's bigger than the other one so I just make sure that I flip them so the other one gets stretched out the next time I fold it that makes sense got my winter cozy socks I have a ton of socks and underwear cuz I only do laundry once a month I've been doing coin laundry for the last 15 years of my life you guys live in apartment you know coin laundry is pain in the butt it's just easier for me to do like five to seven loads at one time rather than going down once a week doing that whole thing now on to my workout clothes I have my workout clothes in this armoire thing have it all folded and tidy as you can see here about a ton of outfits to complete my 12-week challenge I wanted a different color for each week that I was doing just to make it pretty and fun so I have a ton of workout clothes in this armoire I have all my sweatshirts and all my long-sleeve workout tops again love in the different colors I really like to make my videos pop so these are really really fun so happy to be done with that feels so good to get rid of some stuff feels good to know where everything's at and it's nice to move all my winter stuff toward the front of my closet I like to do that anyway in the fall time I am pretty exhausted don't want to do that again for a long time but ultimately happy I did it step 2 we're moving on to the books now it kind of already went through my books when I moved into this apartment but I want to fully Marie Kondo my entire house so I'm gonna go through my books again maybe I'll find something [Music] now take a listen to what Murray says about which items to keep and which items to toss hold each item in your hand and ask yourself if it sparks joy as you already know you are checking how your body reacts to each item do you feel happy or guys to show them how to pick up chicks and I read it so I can avoid douchey people who read this book and try and pick up chicks I know I are secret this one I got is a gift how to be a boss learn how to spell that would be a start like I said I already perched a bunch of books before I moved into this apartment so I pretty much loved all the ones that I have here and I'm glad I went through it because I found a few books that I haven't read yet win-win-win step three is to go through all of your papers now when I was sorting my papers I came across a bunch of sentimental items so I kind of just did it in one big swoop I want to see what the first picture I pulled to is oh it's a cute one oh I feel like I could do this for hours baby danna-banana doing fun okay here's the paper situation we've got boxes of old notebooks where I wrote my deepest darkest and lyrics and stuff like that and then all my like tax papers and all that business and then all my office supplies it's gonna be a long one oh my gosh my favorite part of going through all this stuff is I've come across these cute little things my aunt makes birthday cards for us every year look how cute she custom makes these on her computer and they're like legitimate cards so adorable this is from the balanced brunette my favorite youtube friend hey girl I want to make a special box for all these little keepsakes but I'm also gonna go through all my notebooks and type out lyrics and stuff and then just I'll have it in my computer and I can throw all the notebooks away so it's taking up space I have so many letters like some of these are from high school graduation so I'm just going through and taking a picture of the cover and then taking the picture of the inside so I can keep them stored somewhere if I ever want to look back and have something nostalgic but I just don't want to have a bunch of extra junk laying around so yeah gonna take photos of all these hallelujah and amen my papers are finally organized this took way longer than I was hoping and expecting it's kind of emotional experience cuz I came across a lot of old things that reminded me of old people and I went through all my notebooks and read a bunch of stuff I had written throughout the years times of joy times of depression it was just kind of a roller coaster going through all this been happy to say my drawers look nice and clean I know where everything's at I have some of these little storage bins that help separate things keep things organized usually these pencils will just be scattered throughout my drawers these are all my notebooks that I wanted to keep in here it's mainly my daily gratitude writing in the night time my printer paper on top and then down here I separated out my markers and my pens to keep them all in one spot and then this just kind of miscellaneous stuff post-it notes tape stuff like that and then I just have my paper over here I got rid of probably 40 notebooks stuff that I wanted to keep I typed into my computer and then the rest of the stuff it felt good just to let go of I do a lot of journal writing but I also had a lot of lyrics where I already have my songs on YouTube so I can look for the lyrics there I don't really need to keep them in a notebook and it felt so good I got rid of like 300 cards from people I had cards from like high school graduation and stuff I kept the ones from my Aunt Linda she custom makes them and they're so beautiful I'm so precious to me but the other ones I took a picture so I can always look back on them if I want to step four is the kimono category so we're going through all that miscellaneous stuff starting with the bathroom oh my gosh it's a disaster all of this stuff was just like scattered everywhere I got a bunch of organizational bins that I'm putting stuff in just trying to get everything kind of put together got all my lotions in here perfumes and then things that I bought in bulk I'm keeping in one place just so I know where everything is at wish me luck it was even messier than this but this is kind of the before here is the after you can see I just kind of have everything organized and bins we've got our first aid kit and everything I use on a daily basis I put in this box so I can just pull it out because my counter tends to get super super dirty so it's nice to just have everything in one spot and these drawers are nice and organized now got my makeup remover pads and then everything I need to brush my teeth and then in this drawer I have my perfumes and I have my hair ties hair clips and then at the bottom I have some fancy smelling lotions I have refills and when I run out of toothpaste in mascara I come down here I also have my brush feeling clean feel a groovy my goal is to keep my countertop clean the day has come to tidy my garage I live an apartment so I don't have a garage well let's take a little look at my storage situation but I do have this space that's supposed to be a washer and a dryer but instead it's all of this so I'm about to pull all this stuff out put it in my living room but I still have this little outdoor storage area I'm going to show you guys real quick I'm going to take everything out put in my living room and go through things one at a time [Music] there's a living room right now got all the storage stuff I'm gonna try and get rid of most of this stuff it just sits in my closet and I don't think about it I don't care about it I don't miss it I [Music] didn't show you the before of my nightstands but they were a disaster I kept all my receipts in one so it was just like flooded in papers and craziness and then the other one I just had random books and stuff but now it's nice and organized it just has my visualization journal which I use on a daily and then my sticker box which I use on a daily because I track might workouts with stairs and then just some foot cream and a nightlight a pretty basic this is the drawer that used to have all the papers in it now I just have my chargers and I keep my computer and my computer case in things now remember that space I showed you where my washer and dryer are I can actually see them we can actually use our washer and dryer it's very exciting I mean it's nothing that's gonna go on a magazine or anything but my roommate stuff is here my laundry stuff is here and we can actually use our washer I do have this space that's supposed to be a washer and a dryer but instead it's all of this we can't use our dryer because it's electric and we have gas here so we are just stacking stuff on top of it for storage for now but we can actually walk in here and use the washing machine very excited and then one more room I need to show you our outdoor storage oh my gosh our outdoor storage that was not supposed to happen we clean it up so we can stack it really really high and fit a lot more stuff in here Marie Kondo is shaking her head at me right now anyways I'm gonna take care of this well I got everything back in I got the door closed so I'm happy with that but it feels good just to know where everything is at everything's organized feels nice so I have what one might call a jewelry situation tons of cool jewelry I just don't know where anything is I don't know what anything is so I'm going through trying to find matches for everything I'm going to try everything on and make sure I still dig it I'm gonna my little jewelry box I have some storage in here some of the stuffs nostalgic like these little stones but a lot of this is just cheap jewelry like what was I thinking like what is this what is this little number it's like a big mood ring like what the heck even is this I don't know where I got it I've never learned it it's just a my jewelry box this is a gift from an auntie so I'm going to keep these things I'm just going to go through try them on and figure out what I absolutely love and what can get tossed or donated or put on to my Poshmark site I brought everything out into my living room so I can really just go through it piece by piece I have so much stuff like I don't know I kept this watch it stopped working a few years ago but I just think it's really pretty it wasn't even that expensive it was like 25 bucks from forever 21 that's gonna go in the trash bin and I'm replacing it with this cute movement watch that I got sent to me it's just so simple and so cute it's my new main watch I love it gonna be wearing that a lot you guys jackpot I totally forgot about this whole box oh my gosh that's where that went my alexa has been in my jewelry box this whole time my favorite necklace is in here i wear them during the holiday season they're so cute for christmas of new year's eve look at this bad boy i got these at aldo and they're just so sparkly and pretty and i things i'd only wear once a year but they're just so stinking cute love them and i also got this one i think it was like a buy one get one 50% off deal so i got those two they're so cute anyways i'm gonna get to work here and i'll show you what it looks like when I'm all finished alright got all my jewelry nice and organized I don't love having this on my door it's kind of messy and ugly but it is good storage for right now and I normally keep my door open so it's kind of hidden and then in my closet I have all these dangly earrings a few choker necklaces and if you have my like delicate necklaces that I'm gonna keep in here so those are nice and organized and then I have my jewelry box I got rid of so many rings I only kept the ones that I absolutely love and then I have a few necklaces that are really sentimental to me I don't wear them that often but I definitely want to keep them and either just necklaces that I've made I really just kept only the things that I absolutely love I had a lot of kind of junk in here and then these are all my stones and gems to make jewelry with that's been kind of fun and then these are all my like day to day earrings these ones didn't fit on my other jewelry things I just plopped them in here and then I just kept all of my like really fancy stuff in this box because I don't want it to get ruined and I don't use it very often so that's just gonna go under my bed and then here's all the jewelry I'm getting rid of there are a ton of rings and stuff got rid of no joke like 30 rings probably 20 necklaces I'm gonna let my boyfriend's daughter go through those maybe she'll find some jams and then I'll put the rest on posh muck things are feeling nice and clean oh I also wanted to show you my awesome nail collections I'm gonna do a whole video on this but I am obsessed with impress press-on nails I just love them they last like a week I'm one of those people who chips their nail polish within like five seconds of wearing it so I have been loving these nails take all my money and press take it all I found the perfect size box at Walmart it was like seven dollars and it fits my nails perfectly just wanted to show you that cuz my organization here is on fleek it is time the moment myself for for the last two weeks my recon doing my kitchen I've got way too many clothes and way too many kitchen items that combined with itty-bitty cabinets they have in this apartment makes it very very difficult to organize my favorite part about my kitchen is when I moved into this place I bought a bunch of these containers to hold all my bulk items but the rest of this pantry is just absolute utter chaos I got to go through this kitchen and get it in order look at this door right now this drawer look at I can't even open it what is going on what what even is that I just needed a pair of scissors that's all mayhem total and utter chaos and then I bought a ton of like little things like this I bought them for specific cooking video and haven't used it since so probably need to get rid of some stuff I've been dreading doing this kitchen but is the last thing I need to do before I've completed my Marie Kondo challenge these cabinets are so small they don't even fit the width of my plates so I have to keep my plates somewhere else but maybe in this drawer I don't know I have some work to do the kitchen is officially Marie Kondo which means my whole life is Marie Kondo trite now so the plates that wouldn't fit in this cabinet I just put in this drawer I haven't even really use them because it was just hard to locate then now I can find them whenever and then I just reorganize this drawer so the pans fit in with the aluminum foil and stuff ah the pantry is nice and clean I've got everything organized here there's a lot more space down below this used to be underneath and I would go to grab a bag to go shopping and then like tons of stuff would fall out so I just clean that up a little bit food containers here my little coffee station is here I put all my spices in this box because they tend to get scattered everywhere and then I just lined up all my cans so it makes it nice and easy to find things easy to grab and then my tea station I had already organized before so it's pretty much the same I got these little bins at Target they're super handy got one up here too to hold the tea and then up here's all my noodles and stuff like that and some white rice everything is nice and clean and ready to go and the thing I'm happiest about is this silverware drawer before everything was just in a pile I put this in the middle this time to kind of make for a divider beach clean these I actually had this black bento box that's super cute but I hardly ever use it so I just pulled out the insides and I'm using that to hold these little things it's just gonna be so much easier to find stuff in this drawer now and then the other drawer that always drove me crazy was the scissor and tape drawer these are the same little containers from Target I just put the scissors in between to create a little divider wine stuff and sushi rolling kit and then this is another little piece from my bento box I just use that for little extra storage there looks super-dee-duper and clean come pretend we didn't do this already what do you think about my drawer oh my God look at this drawer wait look at this hallway I don't even open it pretty groovy nah you guys my whole house is Marie Kondo once I take out that trash and take all this to the goodwill and that now I just have to keep it looking this way it's totally gonna happen the only way I'm gonna keep my house tidy is if I make it one of my daily goal I'm starting a new 12 week challenge tomorrow I'm coming to you guys with Monday through Friday videos with all the health all the fitness and all the lifestyle goals so I hope you guys will join me grab your ebooks if you
