who knew we would feel like we were in Iceland in Romania [Music] these past few weeks in Romania have been wild we've spent the last month exploring various parts of Romania in our last video we did a food tour on Bucharest and left for the buchhej mountains we saw the iconic Brand Castle and town of rasnov before heading east for an exciting challenge when we asked for an adventure I did not realize it was going to be like this in this episode we're taking you to explore hidden Rock dwellings mud volcanoes and even a culinary experience along the way in bazau land Geo Park we're gonna have to meet up with some local guys to even figure out how to locate some of these Rock dwellings that we're headed to now [Music] performance over the last three days we spent time with our friend Charlie from flavors of Romania working on a pretty awesome project that we'll explain in a little while but yesterday we were invited down to the konakil grigoresco guest house where Torsten and Duran the owners treated us to a five-star dinner we explored around their property got to swim in the pool and then spent the night in our awesome Villa right here behind me while we were eating dinner last night they were giving us some awesome tips on how to get to these off the beaten path locations that we'll be exploring over the next few days but first it's time for breakfast [Music] thank you good morning English we've been figuring it out this is made by us here in the house this is called babic that's a this is a local cold cut that's a mixture between Pork and Beef yes do you want some eggs so two for each yes yes please this looks so good I don't know if I'm gonna be able to eat even half of this but I'm excited to try everything last episode we filmed a food tour in Bucharest I feel like we should just saved it for here because everything we have eaten here has been truly authentic and way more delicious than anything that hit our palette when we're in Bucharest I don't know what direction our life has gone over the past but his God he's got it right now so you guys might remember a few weeks ago Marissa was tattooing Charlie at the Transylvania Tattoo Expo if you haven't seen that video make sure you go back and watch it after she finished tattooing him Charlie approached us with an idea of redesigning the Tourism logo for Romania but he wanted to come up with a design that he had thought about for the last three years so we worked for three days designing a new logo and then we took a piece of that logo and I tattooed it on Charlie in front of five news crews it was pretty insane and then that night we relaxed and saw ourselves on a bunch of the top Romanian news channels it was definitely a surreal experience and there's a lot of controversy right now behind the logo which was the point there needs to be a conversation according to Charlie and the people that we met here in Romania about their logo so I was happy to be a part of it yeah even if they never use the logo we're just happy to be involved in the process if Romania is not on your tourist destinations it needs to be and you're going to see that in this video this Bazaar national park has got some phenomenal locations some places that people come to from all around the world a couple of places we're going today and tomorrow they told us if we didn't have help we would never find them we're supposed to be given a map later I think a hand-drawn map to find five different right well I think there's up to seven there's up to seven cave churches but they say they could take a really long time and it does go uphill to see how long we can actually make it and how many games are just we can actually find too yeah I think we'll at least do two to three we will we'll have to finish up before it gets dark so we can get to our final location for the evening so make sure you keep watch and if you haven't subscribed do it now breakfast was amazing but now it's time to get on the road we've got about an hour drive to culti where we're going to be headed to the Amber Museum to meet up with Adriana she's going to give us a map and show us how to locate some of these cave churches there thank you again Kirsten thank you so much it was amazing I'm trying to leave we're on the road and headed towards culti exploring this park is going to be Next Level and just learning from the locals is what we're most excited about [Music] it looks like on the left baby that's fine oh Ness Art Center that's to go to alotos like I said it was right here I guarantee it's back here in this main Square okay do you have service again now Google Maps has failed us again always thought we were going to the right place and we wound up at somebody's house mineral see rochi if it's anywhere it's got to be there yeah I think so I think we're at the right spot let's go inside and see if I can find Adriana a local guide who's supposed to give us a map and tell us about a couple of the churches we should be able to visit today maybe it's not right across this is the school whoops Diana yeah okay perfect thank you three stops absolutely zero English and no cell phone service to use Google Translate we found the museum let's go inside meet Diana no no is it Deanna uh tors um Adriana was a pleasure and she did her best to communicate with us via Google translate she spoke no English and we speak no Romanian so it's been fun luckily there was Wi-Fi because if not we'd be completely screwed we have no service here so today's adventure is going to get a whole lot more difficult from here and uh hopefully you guys are patient with us because I'm sure we might get lost along the way she listed out seven different Stone dwellings that'll be in the village of Nuku but before then she said there was one maybe two stops if I understood her correctly uh right now we're gonna try to map some of this stuff out on Google Maps and see what we can figure out for today after a lot of translate I think we finally kind of kind of in a Lunas after a Lunas I believe we have to make our way up to Nuku and most of the cave churches seem to be in that area we have a lot of translations that we've screenshotted it's going to be a little bit complicated but hopefully we can make it easy for you guys if you ever decide to come here and you can follow along looks like we're going on a scavenger hunt for cave churches all right let's get this adventure started thank you [Music] we're at the easiest one to find which is about a 10 minute drive from the Amber Museum this first one is called bizarika rupestra it's literally right off the road we just parked in this parking lot and right next to it so at least we can say we accomplished to see one it's located right here in the village of elunis it's going to Steep Hill if you're driving a van up here like we are you're probably going to have to drop down into first gear and make it up the hill are you excited a true adventure I'm kind of nervous I don't really know uh what our plan is going to be like today we've had no cell phone service since before we even got into the little town that we were just at and we still don't have any so we're truly living off the grid right now there's water and there's a church is it holy water something Marissa's talked about every time we've passed when we've we've been going through this country is the graveyards and how ornate and beautiful the Tombstones are yeah these are beautiful about to enter our first cave Church this is so cool it's a good thing nobody's in here right now but it's definitely a place of worship currently there's an altar of Jesus Christ the Virgin Mary a few crosses and it's really beautiful and it's right next to this gorgeous Monastery definitely a holy place foreign s are so cold touch it it's like ice it's pretty sick that's why they don't need air conditioning in here but it's not even cold in here but the walls are freezing oh snap look at that and see all the alphabet on the wall and you can see where they scratched everything that's so cool look at that that's awesome there's some water here like Latin language and then there's more like maybe that's a Cyrillic like the yeah the scratches yeah it looks more like a hieroglyphics type wow look at the way it goes up here yeah it's neat according to this there's also at least four different alphabets some going back to the Antiquity the Middle Ages and even one from present day definitely looks like they used to have fires in here probably right here yeah like a fireplace yeah this is probably like a fire pit area you can see the soot on the roof and then this nice little area it looks like a chimney it's probably how they kept warm in the winter like you said it holds temperature so well so like during the summer they wouldn't need air conditioning but during the winter you would still want some sort of heat I'm sure even with these windows it probably held temperature decently and then with a fire you could live in here all right now let's go actually go into like the wooden Monastery it looks like it goes into the actual side of the wall and into a cave and you can see some windows cut out over here [Music] now it's time to try to find cave number two all right we just finished up exploring these churches here in a Lunas and now it's time to head about 45 minutes away to Nuku Romanian roads one second you'll be on pavement and then you go on a stretch of dirt back to Pavement but so far we've been able to navigate everywhere we wanted to go oh my God going on a proper Adventure tonight oh my God no my phone just fell no I cannot stand dirt roads and especially going uphill in this van it's so painstakingly slow is everything falling off my lap our poor solar panels right now one of the problems with these Mountain Roads they're literally only big enough for one car so if somebody's coming the opposite direction as us someone has to figure out a way to pull over enough for somebody to squeeze by e it's pretty tricky and kind of dangerous there's bumps when we're hitting the bumps the cabinet flew up and they fell out they're probably leaning against it please can we get on pavement soon just got worse yes I'm positive you're gonna have to get out and like lift on that or something okay America America thank you she pretty much said that this way was harder to go um the turn right there she said go that way but she said that the only concern is that they were doing construction on the road so it might be closed but she's not 100 sure but she said that weighs better it's less like this okay is there somewhere for us to turn around I didn't ask that and if you could back up or what but you have those Rock Mounds behind you so she said this way is bad she said that it's harder she said that was easier watch out for the fence watch over suspense this way and then left oh my God just for an adventure I did not realize it was gonna be like this I thought it was gonna be a struggle trying to find the caves not trying to find the town first oh thank God it's not a good time for my freaking service the throttle I think it just means construction I don't think it means Road closed so I think we'll be okay so I guess worst case will turn around yeah hopefully it's not like it was before Oh my God we're seeing our first sign of payment in ages who knows how long it'll last but but we're on that freshie we did it babe now jinx us can you turn around right here special protein should be here so this road will be closed till at least 4 P.M maybe 5 p.m which I got from that nice man drawing a clock in the dirt for me he said if we go up here to the left there's another Monastery so we could go check that out for the cave churches yeah okay well let's go check that out then we did not end up completing the goal wasn't completely our fault though the road was closed due to construction so we could not have really predicted that or even known this is the whole part of the adventure and you never know what you're gonna see what you're gonna find if you're even gonna be able to find it and where we're staying tonight looks like literally something at a Jurassic Park or Iceland really awesome I'm excited about it the guy that was drawing the clock in the dirt for Sean did tell us about this church that's right here so we're gonna go check it out and then we're gonna get back on the road hopefully the way out is a lot easier than the way in but I am excited for tonight a little sad that we didn't get to explore a little bit more but everything happens for a reason [Music] yeah we'll say everybody that we have met that has helped us with directions have been so nice even the ones I haven't been able to communicate with us in English we've just been talking through Google translate but everybody's been super helpful and it's been really nice to have the community help us and if we didn't have phone service they drew pictures on the ground yeah I love Earth oh we have about an hour and 15 minute drive to the burqa mud volcanoes we're going to be camping there for the night and according to Torsten and uronda they said that we are supposed to meet with the owner when we get there and he might have a cabin for us to stay in tonight so that's pretty cool oh [Music] um yeah yeah we can just go get changed and maybe 20 minutes is it good I love this it's so cute on the outside sorry you get to burn off dinner oh my God tonight we're being treated to staying in a bungalow at muddy camping we're fully prepared to stay on the campsite but aurelle the owner offered us a bungalow told us to stay there for the night invited us down for dinner and now we're enjoying a walk up to the mud volcanoes it's only like a 400 meter walk from the restaurant on the property this ended up being one of the best places we stayed throughout all of our travels aurelle was so kind and treated us to a traditional Romanian dinner he uses only his family recipes and it was some of the best food we've had in all of Romania from the chorba to the homemade schnapps we fell in love with this cute campsite and we're so excited to be right next to our top destination in Romania the burqa mud volcanoes it was so delicious I have Seven Lions okay thank you all right so when you visit make sure that you have four lay per adult and it has to be cash I made a mistake I only had seven lay but this nice man is still gonna let us in this is cool look at that one over there the nipple of the Earth we're at the mud volcanoes here in Romania it's a natural phenomenon located in the bazoo Geo Park here we've got all these big mud volcano mountains where gas is releasing this just percolating in the mud that might not be the most impressive part like I'm really telling you once we put this drone up you'll see from above just the textures here it's just it's otherworldly like I feel like I'm walking on another planet it makes my heart Happy why are you Whispering why not [Music] welcome to Iceland in Romania [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you next time on wrist and Sean we leave Romania and head into Bulgaria where we do a food tour around the capital city of Sofia she likes anything that's not good for you so terrified every single time we get on these roads yeah but look at this really cool well I'm not feeling well chicken watch out chicken fried chicken oh my God there's goats run for your little ones yeah that just means she wants my food [Music] what
