welcome to a recently abandoned mall that takes recently abandoned to a new level closing this year in 2020 this mall has everything you could want in an abandoned building now come along as we make our way through the most recent abandonment you could find [Music] [Music] [Music] today we're in East Tennessee exploring the former East Towne mall originally constructed by the Simon Property Group this mall opened its doors to the public in July of 1984 east towne was designed as the traditional big box shopping mall when it was open the mall boasted more than 80 stores with five anchor tenants holding it all together it was said that about 25 thousand people came out to visit the mall when it was opened up oh this was the Levi's company the jeans company is nice this place is super recently abandoned this malls location wasn't all to ideal at the time but with the crowd that East town had construction to build up the surrounding area was underway the mall would attract the likes of Sam's Club Walmart a couple grocery stores and restaurants ranging from fast food to eat in [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] that's pretty incredible [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] it's the biggest fishing line I've ever seen [Music] I think I recognize that [Music] you imagine seeing like this store just stocked with prom dresses and tuxes I mean to find that to find that you would only have to go to your local mall but it's just wow East town would have a relatively successful opening two decades shoppers were happy with the mall and only saw growth and prosperity this was all confirmed in the middle of this time period when owner Simon Property Group put them all under major renovations I love how although how the name of this here mall is in red and that is kind of thing because it's dead not a dead mall definitely an abandoned mall a new entrance was made the inside was given new tile paint trim and adopted a tennessee mountain theme once the renovations were complete the mall adopted the name of Knoxville Center I wonder if there was some toy that you would like run an anion through all these things does a stationary [Music] yeah shoppers were mixed about the name change a former security guard noted that shoppers didn't seem to recognize it as a mall anymore one shopper noted that he saw the name change as ridiculous saying I could never call it that find another directory I still got the dentist's office sign on the wall that's awesome all right before we head to the food court down now on the other side I just noticed we have got check out this guy I was very interesting I think gained at me when I opened the door so just hope that everything's okay tons of old blueprints in here oh yeah oh yeah who knows if the security is still you see or not I just find a bunch of mm there's a 16 I got a 17 a couple 18 somewhere over here on the desk of course [Music] right well is a walkie-talkie Oh maybe there is security for this but they're not they're not in on weekends or we just got really lucky yeah I don't know this this room definitely feels not abandoned like as if there's really security here and we're getting really lucky right now you as many keys left for the upper floor damn right it is got all the candies that fell through the machines through the cracks in the wood I guess yes this was like Spencer's maybe I really don't know alex is in here somewhere too sure where though this is pretty sick this shoe store just found a bunch of oh dude that's cool Shaquille O'Neal star brett farr star Michael Jordan's star that's really cool and you can see where they all were one unfortunate October day in 2008 saw a man enter Knoxville Center wall that wouldn't leave until chaos ensued Wow he opened fire at a clothing store employee sadly killing the 42 year old a shootout with the police followed that left the shooter and Knoxville Center injured in the process this incident would spell the beginning of the end for Knoxville Center [Music] [Music] a little piece of our strong I'm more than familiar with bozos it's probably the subway could have been like great American cookie oh that could have been one of those Philly cheesesteak places or something like that you already know who came who went who explored like beasts nice little game shop with games oh my god dude there's games in here probably yeah oh that's why hey that's what's up may the force be with you all of drinks some of them are still good Brian most recent abandoned mall ever oh they took all the games Jack pot [Music] turn around the corner to the back of the store [Music] there's bloody games [Music] [Music] I hope you enjoyed our part 1 of this incredible abandoned mall if you did please like share subscribe and stay tuned for our concluding part 2 as we dive deeper into the problems that led to the closure of the small
