Shaper Workstation: How large can the shelf top be? I bought the Shaper Workstation It's perfect to work with small workpieces On the Shelf, you can place small pieces of wood Like this one here You adjust the height and attach the wood with double sided tape That way you can cut out whatever you want This is the so called "Shelf Top" which comes with the workstation The Shelf Top is board of MDF that you can drill into You need to replace it from time to time As you can see, it's only 11.5cm wide That means it's not suited for larger workpieces That's a big bummer! As you can see here, the Shaper would have lots of marker left A larger Shelf Top could provide space to work on larger pieces Therefore, I made a 40cm long Shelf Top I will show you how to do this later in the video (in case you need it) How far out can the Shaper still see the Workstation markers? This Shelf Top is 40cm long This is how far out the Shaper can still see the Workstation markers The maximum Shelf Top length is therefore 31cm Almost three times as long as the Shelf Top included in the Workstation Find the link to the .svg files for a 31cm Shelf Top in the description The following pictures show how to make it (super easy) Take a large enough MDF board Ideally it's 30cm wide, so you don't have to worry about the width Place the template on the workpiece There are three templates: Regular (11.5cm), Medium (20cm), Large (31cm) Take a 1/4" bit (US version) or a 6mm bit (EU version) Set the depth to 4mm less than your board depth Now cut the outer circle of the screw hole You will get a hole like this one Set the depth to 1mm deeper than your board depth Now cut the inner circle of the screw hole The final screw hole looks like this Repeat 4 times for each screw hole Now cut off the board in two passes Your Shelf Top is ready That's it!
