[Music] Shalom and welcome to via afta Israel a Hebrew phrase which means you shall love Israel we hope you'll stay with us for the next 30 minutes as our teacher dr. Baruch shares his expose Ettore teaching from the Bible dr. Baruch is the senior lecturer at the Sarah Avraham Institute based in Israel although all courses are taught in Hebrew at the Institute dr. Baruch is pleased to share this weekly address in English to find out more about our work in Israel please visit us on the web at love Israel you are G that's one word love Israel o RG now here's Baruch with today's lesson our God is a great God who does great things but as we've already discovered these great things are contained within a special relationship with him and that is a covenant and it's only when we are in that covenant to relationship that we can have expectation confidence that God is going to move and use us and bring things about in our life that we will arrive where he wants us to be and that's exactly what we see for the children of Israel when they were in exile in Egypt eventually God moved and we'll talk about when he moved next week but he was faithful to his promises and foundational is that promise of the land so with that said to get your Bible and look with me to the book of Exodus and chapter 12 the book of Exodus and chapter 12 we read here we left off last week in verse verse 20 we're gonna begin to see thee in verse 21 Exodus 12 and verse 21 notice it says and Moses he called to all the elders of Israel and he said unto them and this is unique I did some research word although it's very common in modern Hebrew it is rare in the biblical text we don't see it appearing frequently at all in fact from what I could see is that this is one of the rare occurrences in all the scripture now it's literally the word mishko miss who is to to draw forth to take out off to remove but it's a unique word and this shows a very special aspect to this this Mitzvah this commandment of keeping the Passover so he says here pull out and take for yourselves now he's commanding us to do something but this teaches us something foundational about all the commandments of God when we keep a commandment when we do the Word of God when we apply that biblical statute to our life it is going to have a good effect upon us we may be blessing someone else we may be worshipping God in doing that but in the end it is going to have a positive outcome in our lives that when we do the will of God we are going to be recipients of God's goodness and that's why it says and if you look throughout this twelfth chapter so frequently he says do something but he has a word llaha or lehem for you or for all of you and this is what it says here miss ho ho lock em for take for yourselves from the flock according to your families and it says and I circled us and slaughter the Passover now this is important because it's not the word kill it's not the word murder but it's a word for slaughtering and in the scripture this word has a religious a spiritual connotation to it it is death bringing about death but we a purpose and usually this word has around it a a context of worship so we see here that this is being done that this this lamb is is giving its life but the outcome has a worship outcome now tonight at our study Center we were speaking about how Redemption we were looking at another passage of Scripture and we were seeing how Redemption usually brings forth worship and we see that here because God is telling the people you need to keep Passover because I'm going to bring you out of Egypt you are going to go into the wilderness where you will keep a hug a festival unto me and that's all within the context of worship as well so realize Redemption always should produce worship in our life move now to verse 22 he says and you shall take a gadot Azoff a zuv is hyssop and this is a bunch or a bundle so in this Passover observance there is hyssop mentioned now this is important because all of these are clues for us to understand Redemption more thoroughly and ultimately we know that our Passover lamb we know that our Redeemer is Messiah Yeshua that is Jesus of Nazareth and what do we know when he hung upon that tree remember he cried out I thirst and there was here again not by chance but by God's providence in order that the scripture should be fulfilled he cried out and there was some bitter wine now what this is where we're not sure but it had a bitter tastes it was a fluid a liquid that was bitter and someone dip a a rag a cloth in this liquid and put it on a branch of his oath of hyssop and put it up to his mouth and he drank and this has significance he who is the Passover lamb he who is that that bread of life that that bread of affliction and also we have that that bitter the more touching and this is the fulfillment of Passover these three things now here we see the the role of hyssop it says you shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it you shall dip it into the blood which is in the basin now there's going to be an emphasis this word basin is going to appear a few times and this is important because it's foundational I've mentioned before that the the sacrificial service whether we're talking about Passover whether we're talking about the altar in the tabernacle or the altar at the temple things were done very very significantly peculiarly specifically and what I mean by that is contrary to one individual who who talks often times so flippantly concerning the Word of God and I mentioned this because he says all the the temple was a house of butchery it was a slaughterhouse blood was all over the place that's simply not biblically sound blood was treated with the utmost care we see when you study the Torah how blood if it's not handled properly it cries out from the ground no blood was dealt with in the utmost respect in a specific way so to hear the blood of that Passover lamb was collected and here's the biblical proof in a basin and they would touch with that hyssop that bunch of hyssop they would dip it into the basin where there was blood and it would arrive and this is what it says it is word of a he got him it would arrive it's again a unique word I don't know how your Bible translates it but it's word to arrive to come to a location and it's very odd here that this is a word that's used probably most English translations simply says you shall put it no it's not put you shall cause it to arrive is what it's saying here to the mush cough the lentil and to the to doorposts this is what you take from the blood which is in the basin and you shall not go forth any man from the doorway of the house me pitaka Beto from the doorway or the entrance of the house until bokor until the morning so what we see here is that there was a watch going on within Passover and it's traditionally today that people would not go to bed early in fact some have the tradition to stay up until the morning light and to take very slowly this Passover Seder in fact it says in the Haggadah those who expand the Passover are blessed are praiseworthy meaning to share more and more about the significance of redemption and if you know the traditional Haggadah that that book that guides us through the Passover Seder it talks about those who were in the ancient city a B'nai Brak now Bnei Brak is still a city today just kind of northeast of tel aviv a very religious community and we know something we know that it says concerning those men so many years ago who kept the Seder they who were praiseworthy would extend their seder until Kriya Shama which is the time to say the Shama in the morning so this is a relationship between that tradition and the Word of God which says don't go out from your house until the morning verse 23 and the Lord will pass over now it's not the word Passover but the word love or that he will move over that he will pass to a striking now this is also the word a plague but it's a striking of Mitzrayim that is Egypt now Egypt we know is synonymous with the world many times when the word Egypt appears in the text which should come into our mind is the world and we learned that there was a former Redemption that took place in Egypt but there's going to be a future Redemption when Messiah returns to set up his kingdom and we know that he's coming and prophetically the same where it appears check out for example what is said in Zechariah chapter 14 the same word appears about God's judgment his wrath that's going to fall upon the world so Lynn Gulf he is going to strike he is going to do a plague in Egypt but he says I will see the blood he says I'm going to pass over but if I see the blood upon notice what it says upon the lintel and upon the two doorposts then the Lord will and this is a change in language not the word love or but the word here pisaq I will skip over and this is the basic meaning of the term Pesach here it's pisaq he will skip over that that house if he sees the blood on the lintel and the to doorpost the Lord will skip over upon the the doorway and he will not allow low u10 he will not allow hot Mesquite the destroy now it's very significant because this also shows the sovereignty of God that he's in control there is a special angel it's called here mesquite mesquite the destroyer he will not let the destroyer come to your house to strike it to cause a plague a plague of death to fall upon verse 24 and you shall keep this thing or this word however you want to translate the word ha devar you shall and it's a commandment you shall keep this thing as a statue to yourself and to your sons odd Oh lung I want to talk about that phrase odd hola now usually we would translate that until eternity and some would say forever it is one of these eternal decrease but I realized something I will share with you next week that that Passover among the children of Israel there's no disagreement among that that it was observed in Egypt what we're talking about right now and also the year afterwards the first year in the wilderness but then for the next 39 years it was not observed until the children of Israel crossed the Jordan River and came kind of north of Jericho Jericho where they were in the place that became - known as Gilgal so if it's an eternal decree why when God was leading them did they not observe the Passover those 39 years and the answer is found in a proper understanding of the Hebrew language because the word Olam yes it can mean forever or eternal but it can also be an adjective that describes the kingdom so it's just as legitimate to translate this not as an eternal decree and eternal statute but also we can translate it as simply a kingdom decree in other words this phrase odd olum it teaches us that this is something that leads into the kingdom of God this truth that's contained in this command verse 25 and it shall come about that you shall come into the land which the Lord is giving to you just as he spoke here again we can't go very far in the Word of God when we're talking about God's faithfulness and not understand how the Land of Israel prays so significantly in God's Word in God's promises in God's program what he has done in the past and here's the key what he will do in the future the land of God is foundational in understanding watching that prophetic calendar and the reason why I say that is very simple and that is because in order for this final redemption to come about for Messiah to return and establish that kingdom he is going to bring the people back to the land and I'll say this in the future I'll say it now I do not understand I'm mystified how someone can say I'm a student of this book and read the Word of God and not see the numerous times the dozens and dozens of times that when we speak about the last days the promises of God in key events within those last days that we don't see how God is going to bring the people back to the land it's happening and would you not think that one would look at the Word of God and see raiga that means wait a moment if the people are coming back to the land is this of of significance biblically speaking the the re-establishment of the nation of Israel the Land of Israel does this have prophetic implications and you don't have to read very far in prophecy whether you choose Isaiah or Jeremiah or Ezekiel or many of the minor prophets you see clearly that God says he's going to do that in the last days leading up to those final seven years we need to wake up and pay attention to prophetic revelation so we read here verse 25 and it shall come about that you shall come into the land which the Lord will give to you just as he spoke and you shall keep ha-ah budahas oke this surface for this work this is the word for worship as well and we see once again see when you look at this in Hebrew and you see woosh Martin at ha a bedazzled we don't think of work as in normal labor within this context we see it as a biblical principle being revealed and that is simply that redemption that's what he's doing he's bringing the people out of Egypt out of Exile into the land for worship worship is foundational it is the the purpose for redemption that we might worship God now here ha budahas oat were talking about keeping the Passover remembering it doing it and he also says and it shall come about verse 26 and it shall come about that your sons they will say to you now that's not if it will happen see the purpose is this that as you keep and do the Passover that Passover God has set it apart that it is going to be an instrument that you can reveal things to your family to your children in order to teach them the truth of redemption so it's vital that we see the usefulness of acknowledging Passover doing the Seder he writes and it shall come about that your sons they shall say unto you what is this service for you what does this have to do with you and as we read in the Haggadah we need to respond that this service is not just for us but it's all for also for you for that next generation and we see a foundational text and highlighting your sons the next generation and we see a connection between that next generation and Redemption so God is linking these things together verse 27 and you shall say the Passover sacrifice zavok Pesach is it it is unto the Lord which pass over the word pisaq pass over the houses of the children of Israel who the children of Israel now we'll see next week when we go about another ten verses we're going to see as well there was a group of Gentiles a variety of Gentiles called the heir of Rob that mixed generation so he says the children of Israel but there were also as should not surprise us those who were brought into the children of Israel by faith through redemption through the blood of the Lamb and we see once more a strong indicator that the only way that the house of Israel's establishes through the blood of redemption redemption Israel go hand in hand these two concepts so verse 27 and you shall say the sacrifice of Passover is unto the Lord which passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt when he struck he placed his plague on Egypt but our homes he saved now remember I said to you that Passover redemption Redemption also has a strong connection with salvation here's the word not Yeshua but rather the word lat seal - to save same basic general aspect of salvation but it's a little bit difference it's a different word but it relates to God it's in that Heffel what does that mean the causative that through the blood the fact that the people kept this this command they dealt with the blood properly not just that they killed the lamb that was part of it but it was not sufficient no blood always has an additional aspect to the offering the sacrifice it's not enough just to kill the animal and walk away but here you have to deal properly and appropriate the blood exactly in the manner that God said and many people have pointed out when you do this on the lintel and the two door posts it kind of manifests a a cross a a symbol of God's Redemption and let me point out something else I've said three times I'll say the fourth there's a connection between Redemption and worship right after it says and our homes he saved he rescued however you want to translate that word hid seal and what was the outcome to this saving this help that God did in delivering his people it says by a code Vashta have o via code they bowed their heads and then they got prostrate values to have a or values tocqueville they they bowed before the Lord two different words and both of them have to do with a posture for worship so over and over and over we see how worship is is mentioned here within the story of Passover and I'll say it without any hesitancy if you had not experienced Passover it's impossible to worship God now the Passover I'm talking about is the Passover of Messiah sure coming and recognizing his salvation his saving delivery of his people by his blood but don't make any mistake about it do not forget not ignore that he died on Passover the scripture is emphatic all the Gospels all four said that he died on preparation day and preparation day is the 14th day of Nisan it is the Passover and it is a shame and and I would even go further than that it is an embarrassment that individuals don't know in the body of believers that Messiah died on Passover maybe if we knew that we would put a greater significance upon that date and that we would understand the person and the work of Messiah show up better if we understand rightly what the Word of God says about Passover and what it means when Paul says that he is our Passover that he has been sacrificed all these things and let us keep the festival not with leaven of malice and sin unkindness but but with the unleavened nests that's kindness and purity and love things along those lines so here realize that this salvation led the people to worship God verse 28 and they went and they did who did that the children of Israel just as the LORD commanded Moses an errand thus they did now here what we see is obedience they heard the revelation of God and they responded that should be normative for a disciple we hear the revelation of God and we respond to it no matter what it is did they understand all the implications what they were doing no they did not but that's not always necessary it's good we should strive to but we should obey God in all things that he say not just things that we understood that he says but all things that he says regardless of whether we understand it completely or not let's go to verse 29 now I have said many times that that here we find a foundational principle because we find this expression via he Bahat see Lila Katzie Lila enough me the bream ow in the middle of the night or midnight and what we find is that God struct Egypt at that time and that judgment brought about a change in the Egyptians they experienced God's judgment his wrath and when they experienced it within this context when God touched that which was precious to them their firstborn when they experienced that they changed quickly and so did Pharaoh and the servants usually when we see something in regard to but yet see Lila at midnight in the scripture we see a change for the better a change for that which is good among God's people and foundationally we see that here as well so it came about at midnight that the Lord struck but it's a different word it's not the word for striking as a plague but rather to word Heka which has to do with just a giving a a blow to so and the Lord struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt and this verse is very foundational it teaches us something and this may surprise you in the right conclusion the proper implication to this text but let's just read it and the Lord struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits upon the throne unto the firstborn of the one from captivity who is in the dungeon in prison now why is this so important well Pharaoh heard everything remember he witnessed these first nine plagues and additional that Moses and Aaron gave to him he was the recipient of much much revelation from God but he did not respond and he paid the consequences not just he but other people suffer because of the stubbornness of his heart his rebellion is to not respond to God's revelation but what about this man why are we told why does this scripture include here that also the firstborn of the man he was taken out of his location he was taken captive and he was placed the scripture says in bet hih bore bore as a pit it's a word for a dungeon it's a word for a very significant punishment in prison but in a dungeon in a pit now you can research that word and see that there's great significance to it not just in the normal prison but in a pit now he would have not have heard anything about this Passover about what was going on he was down deep in the ground secondly even if he heard everything he would have no opportunity even to keep the Passover but what happened his firstborn son also was slain now what is the implication what is the Word of God telling us well here's the proper conclusion if you don't deal properly with a Passover it doesn't matter the reasons it doesn't matter where you are what you heard what you didn't hear what you had an opportunity or not I mean this theology that says God has to give everyone an opportunity to receive the gospel don't see that nowhere in the scripture is that taught in fact there's numerous verses that that lead us to a different conclusion in this is one of them the bottom line of the Scriptures telling us is this if you don't no matter what the if you don't deal with the Passover lamb properly the blood of that lamb you don't receive it that's what eating the lamb receiving it if you do not you will be lost plain and simple nothing else matters there's no excuses there's no other conditions that give you an exception there's no exception clause here you either accept Messiah and understand his sacrifice deal with his blood or you will be here's the key eternally lost and what happened in Egypt well keep reading it says there was death and remember Passover and death go hand in hand whether it was the house of Pharaoh or the one who was taken out of captivity and put into the prison into the dungeon into the pit and every firstborn of animals didn't matter every animal its firstborn died in Egypt verse 30 now Pharaoh he had responded previously but never with the follow-through this time when he experienced a serious pouring out of God's wrath he changed look at verse 30 and Pharaoh rose up that night him and all of his servants and all of Egypt and what was there there was Sokka God Allah they Mitzrayim there was great screaming in Egypt now that all could have been avoided I want to emphasize that this was not God's will God did great extent in order for this did not come about but because of Pharaohs hardness of the heart he rejected God's revelation because of the people who submitted to improper leadership now they're experiencing the consequence of improper leadership and let me share with you if you are under improper spiritual leadership old this congregation it's it's close to my house they have a great program for my children I like this aspect but the theology is a little off but it's convenient I want to be there realize there is great consequences bad consequences for those who sit under improper spiritual leadership it's just that simple it's a warning do not be stubborn and foolish like Pharaoh there was a great cry that went out from Egypt for there was not a house no exceptions there was not a house which there was not there met a dead one so death visited here again you could either have death through the Passover lamb or death through that firstborn that which tears your heart because you've lost that firstborn firstborn also relates to inheritance the people did not receive that inheritance that God wanted them to receive verse 31 and he called to Moses this is a coarse Paro he called to Moses and to Aaron that night and he said get up go forth from the midst of your people for my people so Pharaoh saying get up and leave go forth from the midst of my people also you also the children of Israel go and those what since if do at hashem kate direction go and serve or worship the lord according to your words now in the end what happened Pharaoh did exactly as God told him to but there's a significant implication 'they a lot theologically here here's a message Ferro did in the end what God told him to do but because of his stubbornness and rebellious Ness think of all that happened all the suffering all the loss in every sense financially and every other aspect all that loss that visited that came upon Egypt until now when it's the loss of the firstborn both of beasts and family member that children and here's what I wanted to say had Pharaoh humbled himself so important humility a wise prayer God humbled me in your sight and if we don't do it to ourselves then God's going to pray that he makes us humble through some events not going to be pleasing not good to be pleasurable unless you humble yourself don't have him do it because it comes in a in a hard way so humble yourself do what God instructs had Pharaoh done that he could avoid it all the suffering and at the end he could have been blessed but because he did not he finally agreed but because he agreed in this situation there was no blessing upon Egypt what did a gypped receive death when God wanted them to receive life now someone will hear that someone who does not understand properly the biblical sovereignty of God they'll say wait a second you mean this wasn't God's will no it was not God's will that Egypt experienced all of this Pharaoh could have changed everything but because of the stubbornness of his heart people said well God made his heart stubborn no God has a spiritual law that when we reject revelation he will heart in a heart but God did not do this because he needed Pharaoh's heart to be hard Pharaoh rebelled and he suffered the consequences and even though at the end he obeyed realized there was no blessing for him so he called and ultimately he said go forth and serve the Lord according to your word verse 32 also your flocks and also your cattle take just as you have spoken go and he says you bless also me now he wanted a blessing for what he did but we're gonna see what happens soon thereafter when Pharaoh learns wait a second there's an opportunity for revenge he's gonna act these words Oh bless me too he's just doing that because he's grieving about his loss he also knows that he is not going to be a popular in in Egypt now this blessing according to many of the sages also has a self a selfish motivation that he would hold on to power in Egypt verse 33 now Egypt they're going to be transformed they're gonna change through the wrath the wrath of God will bring about change it says verse 33 and the IPPS Egyptians let me translate this kazakh mitzrayim aha now the word here's to strengthen and the Egyptian screen the children of Israel what does that mean they urge them but it's word to make strong they urged the people to hurry and they sent them forth from the land for they said all of us are one of the things that we prepare for the feast of unleavened bread is muscled this unleavened bread and this unleavened bread has great significance spiritually we'll deal with that another time but notice what it says verse 34 and that people lift it up there but SEC that is the people lifted up his and Hebrew people are singular so he'll say his but in English we would have to say their dough before it became sour that is before it it rose or the dough raised up because of the leaven so this says they were driven out they were sent forth but the dough that they had had not arisen it was not ready to be made for bread and they bundled it up all of this dough in there their clothes based sin blue Tom in there their clothes a pawn and that could be garments upon their shoulder so significant the children of Israel went forth and what did they take well the thing that is the most significant that they went out for out from Egypt with is this Bucek this dough that had not risen and they removed it from the means which would cause it to rise and they wrapped it up in a garment and they placed it upon their shoulder now this is significant because this is the image of a burden and what's the burden to be unleavened bread what's that it is to reflect the state of being unleavened unleavened has to do with the opposite of sin we don't want the world to influence we don't want time and the things of this world to influence us we want to stay in the condition that God has saved us in but he has placed the sin so this is a message to the reader look at verse 35 and the children of Israel did as the word of Moses and they asked from the Egyptians vessels of silver vessels of gold and garments now what was this well this shows something this shows as well that that through redemption that there's going to be an order now again we're going to see that Indian people are gonna do God's will let me give the example this the scripture says that every knee will bow every tongue confess to the glory of God that Yeshua that is Jesus Christ is Lord now the question is if we do that now freely based upon the revelation of Scripture understanding our sinfulness our unworthiness and we turn to Him in faith understanding his death his burial his resurrection we are going to experience eternal life but if we wait and we do not do that until that great white throne throne judgment then at that time their people are going to say that he is Lord but it's going to be too late there's not going to be any benefit and in the same way here when we see giving blessing Israel this is part of what God called the Gentiles the nations to do well they didn't want to do that but in the end when God's judgment comes remember judgment brings about change judgment brings about the order of God the purposes of God they did what they were called to do and that is to bless Israel so we find that they gave them vessels of silver vessels of gold and garments and then look at verse 36 our last verse and the Lord gave favor of the people in the eyes of the Egyptians in other words when the Egyptians saw God moving God gave Israel favor in the eyes of the Egyptian he changed their perspective now think about this big change because these were the same people that said oh we agree with Pharaoh we want to see their sons cast into the Nile we want to see them afflicted we want to see them enslaved in bondage we want to see them suffer we want to see them destroyed as a nation they were cursing and what happened to those who curse Israel the land of Egypt became a cursed but in the end what did they do they gave if they would have submitted this giving could have been a blessing in their life rather simply a consequences of God's judgment and it says here look at the last four verses of I a loom vine it slew at Mitzrayim and they asked them that is the children of Israel asks from them and they utilized now some Bibles will say exploit maybe that's the better way to translate it but it's a word in that cell they utilized Egypt meaning that God brought about the condition where they were able to utilize their enemy they're very one to destroy them ashle became a blessing to them not by choice but by an outcome of god's judgment so realize what is god saying here that he can use all things force purposes and it's weiss here's the takeaway for us it is wise to submit to hear the voice of God to read the Word of God and submit because when we do and we do so out of obedience there will be a blessing but if we remain in the stubbornness of our heart and we will not do it on the end we're gonna do what God requires but if we wait until the end there will not be a blessing for us Egypt wasn't blessed in this they did it but without blessing so let us serve God today let us agree with him now let us surrender to his word at once at this moment because when we do God is going to look favorably upon us and He will give us faith in the eyes of others but if we don't well we're gonna be a frustrated people we're gonna be a people that experience God's displeasure his mighty hand upon us we don't want that we want to experience God's grace his mercy his forgiveness we want to be a recipient of his Spirit so that we can truly be his vessel for his glory what we see here is that God sets forth between all of Egypt both the Hebrews that were there and also the Egyptians and the many other people that were there he provided them a choice he gave them revelation he told them what to do but only those who surrendered and to God be all the glory but only those who surrendered to his word who submitted to that conscience within them that revelation of God only they were the ones who were blessed by him so it's a choice you can be richly blessed or you can experience the eternal judge of his spirit so that we can truly be his vessel for his glory what we see here is that God sets forth between all of Egypt both the Hebrews that were there and also the Egyptians and the many other people that were there he provided them a choice he gave them revelation he told them what to do but only those who surrendered and to God be all the glory but only those who surrendered to his word who submitted to that conscience within them that revelation of God only they were the ones who were blessed by him so it's a choice you can be richly blessed or you can experience the eternal judgment of God it's your choice my hope is that you will choose wisely well we hope you will benefit
