and isn't it glorious so i'll be getting the 1504 over to brussels uh but for now i'm just going to enjoy the railway station and especially i just love standing here this is just so lovely and of course the whole the whole station is just to die for so uh maybe we should go for a little wander round and have a look at all the things that some pancreas has to offer in 2007 eurostar switched its london terminus from waterloo to some pancreas and some pancreas international was born there's a very good chance that if you arrive by underground to some pancreas you will pop up at the southern end of the station the concourse at the underground station is pretty spacious and you'll find yourself following the flow of people up the stairs and towards the main station and here we are everything's laid out perfectly for you to enter the lower level of some pancras and be perfectly positioned to go through the eurostar departures area accept stop if you've never been to some pancreas before then there's only one way to first enter the station take a right here and follow the ramp until you reach the steps that take you up to the grand terrace yeah if you got some luggage it's a bit of a struggle but it's worth it and here we go there is no better way to enter any station in britain just behind us is the huge sculpture the meeting place by sculptor paul day also by paul day are the freezes that wrap around the feet of the two lovers a dramatic image shows happy soldiers departing for war and wounded soldiers returning and a lovely image of the diversity of all the men that have been involved in building places such as this there are so many different images on the freezes that every time you come back you'll find something new it truly is a delight but hey let's keep going there's still more station to explore just like us sir john betcham's eyes are drawn up to look at william henry barlow's beautiful glass and steel train shed completed in 1868 it's 243 feet wide 689 feet long and 100 feet high and when it was opened it created the largest enclosed space in the world below the champagne bar we can look down to what was initially the good storage area of the station as we get to the northern end of the great terrace we come up on platforms one to four where we will find the east midland railway trains which serve leicester derby nottingham and sheffield anyway everybody's off down the escalator so let's go and join them below platforms one to four are the entrances to the subterranean platforms for the thameslink service and now we're in the modern extension definitely a concrete post-brutalist ceiling and then there's time for a quick lap around the area called the circle where there's more eateries and retail outlets and most importantly some public toilets if you're coming across from king's cross then this eastern entrance is probably the way that you will come through into some pancras it's certainly not my favorite way of entering some pancreas as it just lacks the grandeur of the marvelous train shed and here we are gates are open for 9142 the 1504 to brussels so let's go around and get ready for departures just on our right there was the national ticket office for all inquiries eurostar had their own ticket office down near departures there are 800 of these cast iron columns holding up the upper level of some pancreas and rather than hiding them away in some kind of way i think making something of them has really improved the whole overall look of the station let's have a look at the departure area for eurostar the crowds are snaking along into the security and passport control so i guess i'd better join them and yes the worst part of the whole eurostar experience is the departures area where you get a coffee and wait and then we're called forward so off we go this ride on the escalator really creates a feeling of excitement knowing that you're about to travel on an international train from the uk there's plenty of time before the train leaves so i think it's time to walk the whole length of the platform and inspect the pointy end today we will be riding on a eurostar e320 right here we are at the pointy end i'm about to uh set off for brussels on the 1504 so very excited to be back on eurostar so let's go and find our seats today i'll be riding in standard coach number 12 and as you can see we will be calling it leel on the way here we are and with a bit of seat shuffling we're in place and we're off just coming into the station we see a class 395 javelin high speed service run by southeastern railway maximum speed on this journey will be 300 kilometers per hour which is 186 miles per hour and we get a quick look at the queen elizabeth bridge at the dartford crossing before we plunge under the thames ourselves and pop up in the county of kent well here we are in the cheap seats well legroom is okay for five foot ten inch me and it also comes with a foot rest although i don't think i'll be using that one today and there's a very nice sturdy tray table excellent uh there's a little pocket above the tray table anybody know what that's for then the window feature comes with a blind and some coat hooks all in all a decent product and of course it wouldn't be right unless uh you book yourself into c61 and while we've been mucking about looking at the seat we're pretty much getting towards foxton don's more freight yard heralds are passing the euro tunnel terminal at foxton and soon we'll be in the tunnel itself and here we are in the tunnel and the 50 kilometers will be traversed in just 20 minutes the tunnel was opened for passenger traffic in november ninety and four in france we join lgv nord the french high speed line the following is important information regarding changes to customs and border checks following the uk exit from the eu customs procedures including the taxation of goods must now be carried out right while we're speeding through the french countryside i think it's time that i got myself a cup of earl grey tea i think it's a very good reflection on the design of the train and the amount of lovely space that has been provided that this fairly well loaded train has an awful lot of people in it with a lot of luggage and yet there is space for everybody right time for that cuppa here we are at cafe metropol very quiet this afternoon so let's have a quick look at the toilet offering in these economy coaches well everything was there working fine and um yeah very a very serviceable and useful toilet well done you're a star that's pretty much all the person could ask for so soon we're pulling into the somewhat subterranean and gloomy lil station so once out of europe we take a left at the fret hand triangle and head off east to brussels and in no time at all we are pulling into the outskirts of brussels and the many tracks of brussels midi soon hove interview and that's it we're here at brussels just two hours on a nice little run so what did this all cost well booking well in advance my eurostar economy single cost 52 pounds which is just shy of 62 euro and with that here we are at brussels midi sadly not as impressive as some pancras well here we are in the bnb hotel in brussels that was a really nice run on the eurostar completely uh hassle-free comfortable and even in the lowest class the eurostar trains are quiet and comfortable i was very impressed how quiet it was the whole process at some pancras there was queues for security and then some cues for passport but essentially you got through in about 30 40 minutes which they're saying make sure you turn up 45 minutes before you leave so that pretty much fitted with what they were telling me future for me is i'm going to pop downstairs there seem to be a a pizza place right at the bottom of the hotel here and i'm going to stay local just have a quick pizza and get an early night because i'm on the 06 25 to frankfurt in the morning yes there'll probably be a video of that one so we'll see how that one goes yes
