[Music] today's somewhat tricky property mission is to balance downsizing with upscaling i love it up here it's really nice this would be great for when the grandkids come to visit as well as amazing outlooks isn't this lovely oh yes it's also looking positive inside we'll make it work because the lighthouse will make it yeah plus i get to grips with this region's roots when i meet up with one of britain's best loved gardeners oh very nice to see you soon to see you in such a lovely spot the other day what a spot [Music] welcome to another episode of escape to the country today i'm in the magnificent yorkshire dales now despite its vast scale and apparent sense of tranquility this is very much a working landscape over 95 of the land here is in private hands and today the dales are home to some 24 000 people now let's be honest if you could live and work in a landscape like this well you never really want to leave it north yorkshire is the largest county in the uk where the average price for a detached property is just under 330 000 pounds but step inside the dales and prices surge by around 50 000 one property that would certainly spike that average is 16th century past full hall restored from ruin in 1927 its landscape grounds are the only formal gardens in the national park open to the public and provide a distinct contrast to the typically wilder yorkshire dales scenery gaining national park status in 1954 the dales are crisscrossed by over 1600 miles of hiking biking and riding paths these include 17 routes which are suitable for wheelchair users ensuring that the region can be enjoyed by everyone now the yorkshire dales national park covers around 840 square miles but it increased in size back in 2016 when the boundaries of the park were expanded by some 23 so clearly there is no shortage of lush terrain for today's buyers to explore as they take what they hope will be their final step to realizing their countryside dream at the minute we're in the middle of clitheroe which is quite a busy town getting busier and busier by the moment so we'd just like to escape that busyness and go back to being calm and quiet and just being able to listen to the birds singing and yeah just get away from that congestion where we live at the moment it is in a town but when we open our curtains on the morning we're looking at lovely countryside but it's just out of reach and given we love walking in the outside world it would be so good if we could be nearer to that world than we are at the moment after 12 years admiring their far-off view of the countryside from the town the time is now right for peter and bev to finally get into the thick of it peter and i have been married for 30 years in september and we've got three children one lives not far away another daughter who lives in stockport and then we've got a son who at the minute is living with us here but him and his girlfriend they're going to be moving out in the next couple of weeks so that'll be me and peter rattling around in a five-bedroomed house gathering dust baef works part-time in a nursery school and peter is a manager for a utilities company but both are due to retire imminently in another four months time i finish work all together which i'm very much looking forward to away from constantly watching the clock constantly having a calendar full of meetings emails telephone calls and all the other things that go with a busy working life work has been a big part of peter's life he gives us all you're worn out aren't you i am quite tired the spot they've chosen for their next chapter is their neighbouring county north yorkshire and specifically the yorkshire dales i'm from yorkshire it's just so pretty up there and so nice the yorkshire dales is to me just about the prettiest part of britain and the chance to live there is just one we shouldn't overlook we want to get a dog and do lots of walking so the yorkshire deals is perfect for that at present we live in a big house but the garden is very small so maybe two three bedrooms will be preferable now and that big garden that we've always dreamed of we want to do things potentially like keeping hens we're interested perhaps in beekeeping so we're hoping that something along those lines will be waiting for us new yorkshire dogs if we get a house with a nice garden in a lovely little dales village well the grandkids will be able to come to stay will have much more quality time really for the last 29 years i've been focusing on being parents but now i'm the last to go it sort of gives them the chance an opportunity to sort of look after themselves instead of looking after the kids because they've always put us first so i think to be able to put themselves first once and live out the rest of their lives in in in the countryside where it's nice and peaceful it is you know i'm happy for them to do that and you know i hope they get what they want and they get the house that they're looking for and enjoy the retirement and peace without those kids annoying them well it's nice now because you've always had to consider in the past are you near the schools you've always had to be near somewhere where you can take them to football or crickets or whatever it happens to be so now this is just for us now our adventure we can do what we like being an hour or so away from them when they're enough to stay close yeah so we can come and see them but we can leave at our convenience well it certainly feels like bev and peter have got their priorities just right having worked so long and so hard i think they're bang on the money looking for a home that's just for themselves now clearly a decent garden is one of their requirements but there are plenty of other things on their house hunting list as well bev and peter have a budget of 450 000 pounds to find their perfect property in the yorkshire dales they're looking for a home with an open plan kitchen diner and two to three bedrooms one of which will be a craft room come study outside space is key to them so they can pursue their gardening ambitions all of this within a peaceful edge of village location that's around an hour's drive from their family back in lancashire we've scoured the local property market to line up a great selection of houses that i hope will fulfill bev and peter's yorkshire dream and our final proposition the mystery house will really test the scale of our house hunter's rural ambitions time to get this house hunt on the road well guys it's lovely to meet you so what's the idea but if you want less house and more outdoor space yeah smaller house when we moved to clitheroe we compromised on the garden we had the kids at the time not as much time as we'll have now to spend in the garden and give us an idea of the sort of gardening that you love are we talking a degree of self-sufficiency is it vegetables is it flowers is it everything yeah all of those really our intention is to get a dog again at least one maybe two yeah we always wanted to keep hens we'd love to have some fruit trees a little sort of orchard um vegetable beds i think the other thing jules is that we're looking for an adventure we're just finishing work we've had family life for 30 years now it is exciting to do something different and explore a new area so it isn't just about the house and garden it's about the whole adventure it's so exciting we're starting our property search on the edge of the yorkshire dales national park in gigglesweek this picture-perfect village is populated with charming stone cottages and essentials on offer include a shop and two pubs all this is just a 35-minute drive from bev and peter's family right guys well we thought we'd start with this one and the obvious point about the views behind fabulous views yeah that looks amazing absolutely lovely great view now single story living before we rush to the door yeah some people love it some people are a bit skeptical yeah well it's not tough of malice but we always said we mustn't rule it out because she might be ruling out something really good although the original bones of this home date back to the 1980s this stone construction with a slate roof certainly blends in with the traditional local style remodeled three years ago it now presents a wonderful modern home so bev what about this thing wow that is fabulous yeah oh yeah what a view oh and it's a lovely room fantastic view really lovely walking country there this was a fairly pokey as i understand it small 1980s build bungalow and they have created this lovely flowing open plan family space would this be big enough better mrs oh yeah yeah yeah an island not that i wanted an island but it's very nice really nice isn't it yeah yeah because i'm just trying to get a sort of handle on on the downside because lots of people ask about downsizing and say yeah we want smaller and then when you show them something smaller they kind of get cold feet it's small yeah yeah yeah yeah no no this is good we do have quite a large house so there's two of us rattling around in there so downsizing definitely is the answer for us you're absolutely sure that's the way to get yeah yeah but this is a big room isn't it and when you know your extended family well they all come round i mean you have got a lovely family space here to entertain them yeah so even though we're moving away we do still want to see them so we do want them to come and visit us good it's fabulous let's poke our heads in here as well because i think this also helps kind of build the picture of what is on offer um i mean they've got this as a bit of a sort of music room really uh again another lovely wood burner there it's a really cosy living room actually on a winter day it'll be absolutely glorious in here with the fire going yeah absolutely lovely it's lovely very snug yeah yeah i like the high ceiling that's really nice and the stove is lovely is there enough room here do you think for when the whole game comes debatable for us fine but when everybody else came maybe it would be a bit of a squash and squeeze yeah we'll make it work if it's the right house we'll make it yeah yeah that's the attitude yeah that's it good i think happy so let's have a far at the rest of it [Music] the living areas on offer seem to be just right for these two and it also has the requested three bedrooms two smaller rooms are currently furnished with single beds but could easily take doubles for visiting family a modern bathroom was also updated three years ago so finally we've got the master bedroom it's gorgeous yeah really really nice yeah it's a lovely room and plenty of space and the height like in the other room i just love the height it's really nice so open and spacious and the decors just to our taste but it also has bath ensuite the proportions are just right yeah yeah for the sort of thing we're looking for compared to what we've got yeah it's not too small but it's not not the space we've got now well the weather is good let's go and have a look at the the garden because i know that is of key importance yes as this property is situated on a hillside the majority of the garden is terraced below a typically yorkshire dry stone wall mostly lawn it extends further along the side of the property [Music] isn't this lovely oh yes what a day to see not only this property but a view like that fantastic it's fabulous isn't it that is amazing i suppose my question to you really is whether or not this garden is big enough no i don't think it is which is very frustrating because the house is beautiful but this isn't enough garden no this is akin to what we've got now okay well let's have a think about uh the price because clearly that is going to have a massive bearing on your deliberations um peter what do you think it's on the market for this is a lovely bungalow lovely house awful lot going for it 425 thousand pounds yeah that's what i was gonna say you are you are allowed to agree are we yeah oh okay i'll agree i don't often agree well there we go she doesn't but i will 425 000 pounds yeah your combined thoughts on this yes okay it is currently on the market at 450 000 pounds because right on the limit it has all of that on its doorstep and it is beautifully done as we have all seen right then go and have a wander around enjoy it uh and uh i will find you here okay yeah because i i'm gonna enjoy you can do a bit of sunbathing yeah absolutely okay thanks enjoy and i'm gonna take in that because let's be honest there aren't many properties that can enjoy a view like that every day of the week at the top of the budget this renovated stone property presents contemporary living with its open plan kitchen diner and a cozy snug and three bedrooms a good-sized garden wraps around the house featuring those incredible far-reaching views i love the house i love the location i love the views it's really nice it's just to our spec it's got the right number of bedrooms the decor is fantastic we wouldn't have to do anything to it i like this house a lot in fact i would say i'm a fan of it i i could definitely live here from the point of view of a house i think we could live here together very very happily i was a bit shocked at the price it was at the upper end of our budget it is after all quite a small house there's not a lot to it but i suppose you're paying for the view and the location which is stunning but we both think the garden is far too small which is so frustrating because the house is perfect you know i do meet buyers who won't entertain yorkshire because they say it's always raining but look it's lovely isn't it it's not raining today yeah couldn't be better glorious is it enough yeah yes we have good well i'm happy with the property i appreciate the garden may not be quite big enough but as you said before there is lots more still to come very good stuff [Music] gazing at the lush screen landscapes of the dales it's easy to forget that these hills are the starting point for one of the local culinary delights yorkshire wensleydale to give peter and bev some inspiration for their retirement they're meeting david hartley at his creamery in [ __ ] hello pleased to meet you to discover more about this region's dairy delicacies why is the creamery here uh well cheese has been made here for an awful long time it's the first cheese was made here in the 11th and 12th century by french cistercian monks and the grass is superb here because we've got the perfect climate really so who knows the recipe well i know bits of it yes you've got the written down recipe but it really is the intuition of the cheese maker on the day to make the best of the conditions whether it's influenced by the weather the milk the time of the year that's where the skill of these cheese makers really comes to play each year 40 million liters of milk collected from local farms is transformed into 4 000 tonnes of cheese cheese maker chris cannon is demonstrating the production process the milk has already been pasteurized soured and set with vegetarian rennet this is the junket it's quite dense at this stage if you grab yourself one of the pointy little wooden sticks that we've got there and you can have a bash as well i'll just start you off all we're doing is cutting across like that and then you go that way until you've got little squares this process known as pitching forms the curds which are the foundation of the cheese if you lift that up that squishy stuff that's where your cheese comes from so there you go get sucking out something so would this be like cottage cheese yes at that stage of the cottage cheese stage mixture is scolded with hot water to semi-cook the curds making it easier to separate the liquid way the different temperature the scold curd the different effect you'll get at the end so higher skull temperatures will give you a thicker cheese if you like a denser cheese with the curds formed it's time to strain this is where it can get nice and messy sauce very gently so we've got to ask they've removed all the liquid we've drained it off now we've got our piece of curd basically what we'll do we'll cut it across and away that way as well yeah this is all enabling more liquid to remove the more liquid removed the harder the cheese working them together basically to release more quid where salt is added and the curd is mixed to a scrambled egg consistency before being transferred to the mold these are traditional molds all you doing you're ready balancing it in your hand and then dropping it in like that and every so often just give it a squish down now is the bit where we find out if we've got a good cheese this is where it all goes i think no i'm feeling quite confident you've done a fantastic job so oh not too bad not super bad look at that it's perfect fantastic finally the cheese is rolled in muslin there [Music] and left to mature for six to seven weeks so after their efforts in the creamery peter and bear are rejoining david for a taste what we've got for you here is the yorkshire winterdale here which is a really traditional one don't have a little taste of that thank you there you go thank you very much so what we're looking for there is the creamy crumbly cheese a bit of flavour complex it's lovely is that very nice really creamy we're pairing that with some local beer as well because we are in new york so it will be remissive is not true absolutely so you know plea please help yourself i like your style hello cheers i'm property hunting with bev and peter who currently live in the lancashire town of clitherow with a budget of 450 000 pounds they want to downsize somewhere in the yorkshire dales where they can enjoy a peaceful retirement switching their focus from working full-time to gardening all day long coming up i test just how much size really matters at the mystery house it is larger than the house we're downsizing [Laughter] and my green fingers come into bloom with a little help from a celebrity florist fantastic i think there's a real talent there [Applause] [Music] well i think it's fair to say that our house search here in the beautiful and popular dales region has struggled to meet the competing demands of budget over expectation so with one more day to come we have two properties that may yet resolve this classic conundrum we're going to finish the day with a mystery house that may yet give bev and peter more than they bargained for but first a property which i hope may yet tackle the thorny issue of the garden next up we're visiting the market town of grassington which is a 50-minute drive from family in clitherow it's an excellent starting point for exploring the outlying countryside but also a charming destination in its own right with a range of quality shops tea rooms and pubs an annual music and arts festival held throughout the town really brings the local community together the property we've come to view is a 10-minute walk from the heart of it all and has beautiful landscape grounds that are awaiting their next custodian preferably one who's passionate about horticulture [Music] right then the thing i like about this one is the wraparound garden ah it sounds good yeah you get pretty much as much as as this behind it yeah but lots of interest here yeah it's still not acres but the fact you've got grassington on your doorstep yeah it's worth a lot is that i i would say so definitely and i shouldn't judge it by being a bungalow because yesterday has proved very interesting inside so let's get in there you go yeah okay go with that peter i'd go with that come on built in the 1960s this stone home is another deceptive proposition so i'm glad to hear that bev is keeping an open mind right come on in what do you think madam yeah a nice size room yeah good size plenty of plenty of space i like that yeah all it requires is for you to put your own cosmetic stamp on it to make it what you want your new home to be it does all sort of flow as well this way so here you've got a dining room come dining end to the kitchen but the conservatory you see there wraps itself around which sort of spans the back of the property which links the dining room and the kitchen together again perhaps you would want to give it more of a rural feel but i think in terms of space and size it might work no i quite like the kitchen as it is it's all right i like those units yeah it's nice yeah are you looking at that wall thinking yes that's what i'm just thinking could we remove that so i just knocked it while you were talking and worth checking solid solid yes but it could be done you know a steal you just could easily get a little in there you could open it out into the conservatory a bit couldn't you you could absolutely and there you can just get a glimpse of the garden which we'll explore in a bit more detail at the back of the property with those views out uh to the fells and dales oh yes right now you said it was a bungalow when we arrived however there is a staircase yes it's not taking a bungalow so i'm going to get you to explore the rest of the ground floor you will find a master bedroom down there and a few other bits and pieces and i will then meet you at the bottom of the stairs that's the little surprise and i will uh explore up there with you guys okay thank you the property has four bedrooms in total three of which are on the ground floor including one with a small ensuite [Music] bev and peter are exploring the largest of them good size room isn't it really certainly fit our furniture in here yeah i think i prefer this even though that one next door's got the unsweet i think this one would be more for us yeah nice big window as well could be reasonably bright yeah yeah i prefer this one i think i'd use this one as the master yeah good well now you've seen all that the ground floor has to offer ground floor yes let's go up here okay this might be quite interesting so this is probably not what you were expecting up here not at all no i'm thinking this might be quite an interesting craft space they've got it as another sort of city room excellent craft room yeah yeah although i quite like it set up as it is yeah tv room media room you've also got another bedroom there they've got it it's set up as a twin but would certainly make a double and it's also got a shower on suite as well actually you know this would be great for when the grandkids come to visit that's where they could sleep this is where they could play i love it up here it's really nice admittedly the house may need some modernising but outside there is so much for the green fingered it's the biggest garden plot we've seen so far with well-established borders that wrap around the entire property well now the sun's out this looks absolutely glorious isn't it and we have caught this garden at a perfect time of year yeah and it is absolutely bursting yes uh with life i love the pergola here and the wisteria lots of really interesting kind of features there's a pond over there which is rather sweet and then this terrace again which gets you round to the front garden too and the the lovely dry stone walls which flank it yes i like those so this is the moment i have been dreading you me too is it is the garden remotely going to work well there's a lot more space than i thought there was when you actually wander around it's like you say there's lots of different areas yeah so it is a lot bigger than i at first thought and i've always wanted a pergola and i've always wanted a pond you could certainly carve out a little more of it for veg gardening yeah uh if you wanted to uh and dare i say it potentially even you know a few chickens maybe yeah yeah you had there'd be some work to do but yeah it's definitely possible it's a big plot for uh a village centre location yes it is actually so let's think about the price of this one then could we say near the top of our budget four five four hundred and forty five thousand pounds okay i think it's going to be over our budget okay for four five five four hundred and fifty five thousand pounds just over your budget this is currently on the market at 430 000 pounds all right oh that's a surprise yeah i think that's very reasonable for the area and the size of the property in the garden yeah i think that's a really decent price brilliant good well i'm glad you've enjoyed it i'm glad you've understood why we brought you here so look go and explore the garden by all means have another look inside if you want to and i will find you a little bit later on okay lovely thank you thank you twenty thousand pounds under budget this stone property has excellent potential with two reception rooms a conservatory and four bedrooms the mature wraparound garden is a real bonus for a property in such a desirable location looking around the house there's a good use of space it's deceptively large it's a house with some potential the gardens were good though good space and the location absolutely excellent grassington is a beautiful place we could happily live in grassington as a village it's a lovely garden at this house it's really nice quite a good size to be in grassington and have a garden this size i think is probably quite unusual getting lost in there good interesting isn't it yeah it's nice it's a lovely garden it really is yeah uh and we are seeing it i think at its best okay yes that's it for this one okay happy yeah good right come on our final stop at the mystery house is in the village of horton in ribblesdale a stunning pocket of the yorkshire dales national park where many people commence the three peaks walk this is a 26 mile route that climbs the highest points in the yorkshire dales two pubs here serve weary walkers and locals alike and our mystery house is situated on the edge of the village so here it is this is our mystery house what are you thinking why is it a mystery it's a mystery because it is by far i think the biggest property we've shown you this week it is also i think the newest to be fair but we pick up on this idea about you being more immersed in the landscape than in your current property within clithero and really the point of this one is all of that yeah stunning yeah to wake up to that in the morning fabulous and as you might expect the views again from the garden behind right you know absolutely make the best of it thinking ahead to the family coming to stay this is one i think in which you can really accommodate them it's got great family space and that's what we're going for okay yep it's going along yeah still open-minded absolutely come on so great is the space that the mystery house is actually a successful up and running bnb situated in a prime position to attract outdoor enthusiasts in the area due to its business credentials the front of the property is tarmacked for parking but it's a large space which could be transformed for anyone with gardening ambitions the house itself is definitely not a downsize built from local stone with a slate roof our mystery house looks traditional but on the inside it offers high standard modern living yeah surprising isn't it that's what i was expecting no i'm sure it wasn't actually come on over here because i think from this position you get a real sense of what this great sort of family space is with the wood burner of course the dining end and this kind of bar arrangement here whether you would keep this kind of bar arrangement i don't know i think it probably would yeah yeah it works well yeah it works well as it is yeah the rest of it is a good space yeah you could spend all day in here couldn't you off the kitchen there's a utility room which has a staircase that leads down to the lower level where there's a large workshop and double garage the property's four bedrooms are spread over two floors of the three on the ground floor they are all amply proportioned doubles and two of them have ensuites this one is currently used as the master not to say you couldn't pick and choose amongst the others but this is a good size isn't it yeah it's a nice room and it's got the views well indeed i mean that's probably why they've got it yeah as the master but none of the ensuites here are tiny they've all been made to be pretty uh cavernous and then you've got this whopping family bathroom next door so i appreciate it maybe larger than [Music] you might need but in terms of everybody coming for those christmases for a long period of time i mean clearly it would it would be a nice oh yes it is larger than the house we're downsizing from [Music] technically the upper level only has one defined bedroom but the current owners have created an extra sleeping area at the top of the stairs [Music] i'm thinking as a craft room or kids room kids den yeah yeah it's a good space it's got a good height it's good because when you go up into the eaves you don't necessarily always get this height do you it's really good yeah but i would think perfect as a family space or tv room or something study or craft room yeah exactly there's so much scope with this room so to finish off when we arrived we were captivated by those views they are even better from the garden all right okay okay the thorny issue all right garden come and have a look and see what you think now you've got an idea of what's on offer just like the outlying landscapes which can be admired from the garden the outside space here undulates up behind the property that is amazing isn't it yeah lovely garden-wise look what you see is famously what you get with it and obviously terrace i can imagine what's going through your mind right now so i don't need to um necessarily it's a nice garden it's nice yeah but it's just on a slope and tiered which is not ideal for what we would want to do with it yeah but it's a nice garden it's bigger than i thought it was going to be okay so our final price guess of the week 450 000 pounds you have where do you think this one is on the scale this is a it's a really difficult one it's such a large house i'll go for 445 000 pounds 445 000 pounds again okay right yep all right um oh i don't know 450. well part of the reason this is our mystery house is its price because this is on the market for 415 000 pounds okay which means it is the cheapest property we have shown you this week the biggest and the cheapest yes there you go as ever now is your time to go and explore it further okay i will come and find you a little bit later on probably out the front okay lovely thank you very much 35 000 pounds under budget this detached house offers excellent value with a large open plan living space and four substantial bedrooms and its terrace garden enjoys panoramic views of the dales i was very surprised when we got to the mystery house i was expecting something a lot smaller this is a large house it's probably as big if not bigger than the house we're moving from the best qualities of the house are very much the view the location is great from a point of view of outdoor pursuits the mystery house is um the cheapest one we've seen yeah it surprised me a good price bought for a big house the garden is a very lovely garden very colorful lots of nice plants it's very nice but i don't like the teared effect it's quite steep and they've teared it and i don't think it would suit our purposes there we are all done yep madam and sir you've got some things to think about yep to be a fly on the wall in your deliberations i wouldn't mind that job come on let's go thank you now when nature provides scenery as splendid as the yorkshire dales leaving the landscaping to the elements is certainly a smart option but at rhs garden hollow car they've been taming the land since 1949. i'm attending the annual flower show which for the garden's 70th anniversary is being opened by rhs ambassador and yorkshire lad alan titchmarsh oh very nice to see you nice to see you in such a lovely spot lovely day what a spot i first came here in 1965. and i lived only about sort of 10 miles away so this for me was my go-to botanic garden if you know i was growing up but it's an important garden this isn't it when we look back at the the last sort of hundred years i suppose of horticulture in the uk it is particularly for people up here because i always say to people when they say i want to grow so will it grow in my garden find somewhere local go and look and see if it grows there and the chances are if it's doing well somewhere nearby it'll do all right for you but are there elements here that you would say are typical to yorkshire is it a yorkshire garden it is it's got the yorkshire landscape it goes up and down it's challenging because it can be quite cold in winter but if you garden with your conditions rather than against them you can make as you see here beautiful gardens complementing the tea theme the centerpiece of this year's celebrations is a spectacular cake of flowers designed and made by florist jonathan mosley i'm joining him for a master class in flora arrangements using stems grown here in the gardens this is a great opportunity for me because my wife is always complaining that i have no clue or attitude when it comes to flat arranging but i'm with the master i can give you some top tips yeah you can change that right then off we go let's let's start what i would always suggest is start with some foliage that's interesting foliage is a really important thing to begin with because the fuller it is the more body it's got then the more components you've got to lock the flowers into place starting with a bushy base layer enables us to build up an arrangement with lots of height so any more green at this stage well i would go and elect now to use some of the alcanemolis this one here yeah that's just lovely oh my favorite i love it so is this going to sit up here yeah go another level right okay climb another step that could just be an arrangement couldn't it just with the lime greens in there so now a bit of color do you think i absolutely love alliums i think i'd go for it yeah give it a whirl i'm gonna go for three okay um not totally symmetrical i know maybe symmetry is quite a thing in summer range it can be but i would probably go go a little bit off on a tangent then go on then and throw something out there so maybe something like this in the peter let some of this break out become a little bit more freer less contrived that's interesting so into the gaps between the uh the aliens perhaps something possibly yeah or maybe just sort of slightly to one side i do feel we need something there what about the gorgeous candelabra primus oh yeah there we go so my three top tips if we're making a flower arrangement would always be find a colour scheme first and stick to that colour scheme and don't deviate away from it always cut stems on a 45 degree angle so they can take up as much moisture as possible and final tip is when we've done the arrangement we want it to last for as long as possible if we can spray the flowers you know with a little atomizer ah i hadn't thought of that a water spray it spray morning and evening on average an arrangement lasts five days longer and of course in the garden they're taking in dew rain absolutely yeah why not so one more thing then one more and i want central form i'm drawn to these so this is the brodia or a summerflower it's absolutely wonderful with those wiry very erect stems and those amazing star-shaped blue blooms now here we go how about that fantastic i think there's a real talent there you're very kind well jonathan thank you very much indeed mrs hudson is going to be absolutely delighted it's been an absolute pleasure most [Music] welcome this week we have quite literally been uphill and down dale trying to find peter and bev a home for the future and whilst it has been a lot of fun it has at times also been frustrating so will there be a happy ending only they know [Music] how are we then all right enjoying the sunshine well haven't we been lucky this morning we have we've definitely seen the dales uh at their best i think yeah but the burning question is have we found something that might work unfortunately not no that's what i was thinking you were going to say we have all been slightly frustrated at the challenge of matching your ambitions to the budget a not on generous budget but in a very popular and frankly quite expensive part of the world so peter tell me where are you now in your thought process looking forward we're still very very keen on the dales or the area around the dales we've seen some beautiful places we do think the right place is out there and we will keep looking we just have to search a little bit harder well it's been a lot of fun you've given me a fabulous excuse not that i really need one to come back to the dales and explore its property market um so here's to you and your future search cheers in trying to understand the challenge of our house searches try and imagine shining a torch onto the property market in a particular place at a particular price and importantly at a particular moment in time sometimes in the light you'll see a range of glittering options that will leave our buyers spoiled for choice but sometimes it can also be a bit of a struggle but clearly despite the obvious frustrations of this week peter and bev are determined to make the dales their new home they're just going to have to shine their light for a little bit longer i'll see you next time since filming peter and bev took their house hunting a little closer to home and have had an offer accepted on an end of terrace victorian property just outside the national park we wish them well with their new yorkshire life if you would like to escape to the country or even your perfect town in northern ireland scotland wales or england why not apply
