when I first moved out of my parents home and got my first place I no longer had access to my dad's toolbox and I quickly realized that a good set of tools were invaluable whether it be simple DIY building up Ikea furniture or attempting maintenance work to save some cash my first set of tools were all spur of the- moment purchases that AR R from necessity however I did not give much thought to the purchase or have the foresight to consider versatility by the time my first lease ended I had accumulated way too many tools and had wasted money on tools that I did not need these are the tools I wish someone would have told me to purchase from the very [Music] beginning if you're looking for the simplest and easiest entry point into tools for the home start with this this is the Vera tool check plus if you're looking at this compact 7x 3in tool and have some concerns I wouldn't blame you nor normally All-In-One tools make a ton of sacrifices and attempt to provide as many tools as possible rest assured though Vera is a Quality Tool manufacturer from Germany the kit includes 30 different bits that cover all of your most common Phillips Torx and hex Fasteners the bits are wellmade sharp and durable reducing the chances of stripping out a screw in addition to the bits you also get a set of seven sockets these sockets and bits can be used with any of the two provided drivers for drivers you have your choice between a 3-in bit driver or a 3-in ratcheting bit wrench these compact drivers are decent they allow you to do most things and work in tight spaces however you'll quickly realize the one shortcoming of this tool while the tool is compact you lose surface area to apply torf into more stubborn Fasteners or drive into harder materials considering how versatile and compact this tool is I think most can forgive the compromise ergonomics the beauty of this tool is you can get a ton of tool coverage with just one tool which allows you to take your time building out the rest of your kit in addition to the ver tool check do yourself a favor and pick up a tape measure as soon as possible I think it goes without saying how important this tool is look for a tape measure with a wide Co tape the wide tape makes it easier to read and Mark measurements and the coding will ensure the tape markings won't prematurely wear a good tape measure is well worth its price and something like this 5 m stability tape measur will last you a lifetime for the longest time I just had these two tools in my possession and was able to build Ikea furniture Mount pictures to the wall and update my door lock to smart door locks like this one from today's sponsor Best Buy Best Buy sent me a second level lock plus my first level lock plus was one I purchased myself and have been using it as my main front door deadbolt for over a year now After experiencing the convenience of a well integrated Smart Lock like the level lock plus going back to an ordinary deadbolt on my other door feels kind of clunky I've been wanting to upgrade the deadbolt on my garage door after having a kid as we're constantly using the door to take the stroller in and out of the garage so today we will be installing the level lock plus onto my garage door the lock is easy to install and I I can install it with just my ver tool check plus all we need is a size 1 philli bit and either the 3-in driver or the 3-in ratcheting wrench we'll start by removing the housing Fasteners once the Fasteners are out we can remove the thumb lever and cylinder [Music] case next we'll remove the screw from the strike plate and remove the [Music] deadbolt once your deadbolt is removed level lock assembly couldn't be easier we'll slide in the one piece deadbolt with plate then secure it down with the included wood screws next take the level lock motor and slide it onto the deadbolt contacts secure the motor to the deol using the size one Phillips [Music] screw now slide on the housing and secure it to the lock with the included screws finally we'll install the thumb paddle and we're done lock setup is easy using the level lock app the app is great for setup and calibration as well as sharing keys with friends or family or generating temporary keys for contractors and service providers I love the finished look the lock goes undetected as a Smart Lock it's simple to use and if you desire will operate like any other deadbolt the lock has a Sleek contemporary look that will actually match your home exterior I find that while smart locks are convenient most of them are too techy and clash with the less modern exterior of most homes the level lock plus can be unlocked with the app included key fobs or apple home key while the deceivingly simple this lock makes use of the latest home key Tech from Apple double tapping your iPhone home button allows you to quickly bring up your level lock plus home key and enter the door by simply bringing your phone to the lock this is my favorite feature as a sleep deprived parent besides my kid the only thing I'm responsible for is remembering my phone each morning level lock plus has simplified what I carry and has changed the way I interact with everyday items if you'd like to learn more about the level lock plus you can use the link down in the description box below thanks again a Best Buy for sponsoring this video after the WEA tool Chuck plus and tape measure I jump straight into Power Tools specifically the impact driver the impact driver is a compact electronic driver that will do everything that the Vera tool check plus can't on its own for impact driver I recommend the Milwaukee M12 surge impact driver the 12volt version of Milwaukee's power tool line is Compact and has more than enough power to drive into drywall and wood studs normally it's a tossup between the drill and the impact driver for the first power tool and ideally you'd eventually own both however modern impact drivers have made it easier to live with just one tool the M12 surge impact driver has an electronic clutch that works just like a drill clutch limiting the amount of torque applied to Fasteners to prevent overdriving or breaking off screw heads best of all the surge impact driver uses hydraulic fluid to create impact which results in a significantly quieter tool before hydraulic impact drivers I would have just recommended a drill but with a quieter impact working indoors is now more tolerable and you can do work without waking up the entire home the impact driver uses a standard quarter inch Chuck which makes it compatible with most accessories as well as the Vera tool check plus we can now Drive Fasteners and bolts with more torque using the same bits and Rapid bit adapter from the Vera tool check the only thing you would need to add is a set of impact rated drill bits yes you can drill with an impact driver the driver doesn't spin up quite as fast as a drill but you will get a clean hole in everything except the hardest of Hardwoods [Music] before we add more tools to our kit let's find a bag to St all of our Tools in my favorite tool bag is the Vera 2o four tool quiver the bag has a divider that separates the bag into five compartments the bottom is lined with hard plastic to prevent punctures from sharper tool tips last but not least this bag is a part of the modular system so as your toolkit grows beyond this video you can easily add on additional bags without having to Reby everything on its own it is the perfect compact bag to always have on hand now that we have a bag the next thing I would add to this kit is an adjustable wrench adding this tool will allow you to work with bolts nuts and Plumbing in order to work on Plumbing you'll need at least a 10-in adjustable wrench to accommodate the common plumbing pipe sizes the Conex 10in adjustable wrench is probably the last adjustable wrench you'll ever need unlike a spanner wrench this adjustable wrench can quickly adjust from 0 to 52 mm in under a second the intuitive design also makes it easy to apply large amounts of force the handle offset allows you to keep the Jaws shut with minimal amounts of effort I've been able to fix annoying leaks and even replace an entire sink with just this wrench if you're considering tackling Plumbing this tool is a must have another knipex tool i' recommend is the knipex twin grips every toolkit needs a set of pliers every once in a while you need to brute force a job knipex make some of the best pliers with sharp durable teeth and comfortable ergonomic design in the event you strip or break the head of a screw this is the tool for the job the twin grip setup has the perfect groove to grab onto screws and allow you to back out the screw even after just one strip screw you'll instantly realize how useful this tool is for hanging pictures around the home a small compact Hammer is all you need look for a hammer that has a dual density head the hammer won't be used for demolition but this Hammer is great for small nails and giving things a nudge with a non-marking head I found the softer head is also great for my favorite picture hanging Nails these are the Deco decorating nails they have a small plastic head that take the guesswork out of mounting and for flesh fitting picture frames these hanging Nails produce little to no Gap if you're going to be hanging things you'll also need a level and a stud finder I opted for a compact 7in Stabila level a larger level is easier to work with but my goal was to get the tools in this kit to fit into one bag the level is made of metal and houses two rare earth magnets on the bottom which turns out to be the perfect location to store a stud finder my favorite stud finder is the low Tech No Frill stubby buddy the stud finder uses magnets to locate the metal fasteners used to mount drywall to the studs of your home the studf finder will not find pipes or electrical conduit but if you're just looking for a stud to mount something to this is the easiest and simplest [Music] solution if we were to stop here you'd be in a pretty good spot as we now in my opinion have all of the basics covered with that being said in addition to the ver tool check plus I also like to carry a dedicated screwdriver with a 100 millimeter blade and a set of long L keys when it comes to Quick jobs with multiple Fastener types I'll always reach for my Vera tool check but for work around the home that takes a little longer I prefer working with larger tools ideally you would have a full set of dedicated screwdrivers that you could grab on a whims notice however you'll find your toolkit will become very heavy very quickly and you won't have room for other tools the solution is an interchangeable bit screwdriver with an interchangeable bit you essentially have an infinite amount of drivers that only occupies a small portion of your bag the screwdriver I have here is a 100 mm interchangeable ratcheting Screwdriver from PB Swiss PB Swiss is an endgame screwdriver so if you're looking for something more affordable we it makes a great interchangeable alternative whichever you go for I'd recommend picking one up with at least a 100 mm blade length 100 mmers is The Sweet Spot in terms of driver length it's long enough to get to most places yet still compact enough to be manageable PB Swiss Insider Pro keeps 10 bits inside of the magnetic handle it has a ratcheting function that can also be defeated if you just want to use a screwdriver with without it out of all the tools in my bag this is my favorite the fit and finish on this thing is amazing feels great in the hand and the tolerance of the ratcheting shaft are engineered so well that the shaft has no wobble and the ratcheting action is crisp and tactile the last tool in the kit is a set of hex L Keys just like the screwdriver PB Swiss makes some of the best L Keys they're anodized and colorcoded working with a set of colorcoded hex Keys makes working on things so much more intuitive these L keys are perfect for Ikea furniture and working on bikes at some point in your life you will assemble Ikea furniture Ikea furniture uses a mix of Philips Fasteners as well as hex Fasteners when I assemble Ikea furniture I don't like to use the included Allen Keys a good set of Allen Keys have a sharp durable Edge that will reduce the chance of rounding out a Fastener which is a concern with the lower quality Fasteners Ikea usually includes with their Furniture so that's how I would build up my toolkit if I were to do it all over again with these tools I was able to get my home to where it is and maintain it the kit shows you don't need a ton of tools if you focus on versatility with this small compact kit we've covered every Major Tool need and I've also left room to expand I hope you enjoyed this look into my minimal toolkit thanks for watching and I'll see you in the next [Music] one
