Basic Wardrobe | Wardrobe Reset | What I Would Buy If I Was Starting From Scratch

welcome back to Hugo Eric here today we'll be breaking down the essential wardrobe into just 10 pieces these are the pieces that I would focus on if I were starting over again and had to build my denim you should put in your wardrobe is a dark pair in Indigo and I would like to redact that I think that a lighter wash of denim is actually more relevant in today's landscape when it comes to Casual as well as business casual outfits I'm not a big fan of dark denim for the business casual look and if I were gonna go that route I'd rather go with something else so I do find that a lighter pair does a lot better job of being casual and I find that the color palette of a vintage or washed pair of denim goes better with more things making it just a lot more versatile I think a white t-shirt looks better with it I think a button up looks better with it I also think layers like sweaters or over shirts also go better with a lighter palette that comes from these lighter Indigo denim now there's nothing wrong with dark Indigo Denim and I do think it's maybe like the second pair of denim you should pick up but if you just have to pick one I'd go with the light pair dark bears are cool I think it is the whole Japanese raw denim following is is really cool to get into I love that the denim kind of grows with you and it takes on character based on what you put on your pockets whether that's your wallet phone or other accessories that you stuff in them so that's always a cool aspect to it and it does give this unique aspect when it comes to Denim and fashion but if it were for more business appropriate fits I would just kind of go full send and get a pair of dark Navy trousers I really like this I think this adds this high low aspect to your wardrobe and really balances out the versatile nature of denim so you have a light pair for everything casual and you have something darker when you want to wear a more business savvy fit the ones here are from Uniqlo this is their two-way stretch smart ankle pant and I love the way these fit me personally they have a really wide upper block that have a really nice taper that keep the fit relaxed but I think it mimics the overall silhouette of my leg which makes it look good um I do have an older guide on how to size denim slash pants I would go and check that out I think it's worth a watch you should really be sizing your pants correctly because these are hard wearing everyday essentials that you're going to use and I find that if you nail the fit and you get something that you're really going to wear you're going to get a ton of use out of them and I think a wardrobe that you actually use is one that's also more enjoyable [Music] here we have the humble t-shirt you can go many ways with this but obviously simple is better here when we're talking about Essentials and again here let's just focus on fit I really like these ones these ones are from Uniqlo they are the Uniqlo U aerism oversized t-shirt and even though it says oversized I find with my build it's more of just like a relaxed fit the sleeves are a little longer but I do find the Hem of the shirt still sits nicely below the waist without looking like a dress I would encourage you to try a bunch of different t-shirts while this t-shirt works for me may not work for you again if you are starting over really focus on the fit take your time spend the extra cycle spend the extra you know hour or you know make those extra returns to really find a shirt that you're going to wear such that you're not wasting as much and again you are using your wardrobe [Music] going in line with t-shirts is another essential that I've recently added to my personal wardrobe which are long sleeve T-shirts I really like these uh especially living here in California where weather is very temperamental starts out cold in the day gets really hot towards the end of the day so these are nice especially during the fall winter where a t-shirt might look a little out of place showing a ton of skin I do find with long sleeve T-shirts they can look a little uninteresting so I really like to get my long sleeve T-shirts with some kind of detail I really like the front chest pocket these long sleeve T-shirts slightly more seasonal but I do still think they are Timeless they're really easy to layer with give you a little bit extra warmth than a t-shirt would in the fall and winter and by themselves I think they're a great piece to add to your wardrobe foreign I'll be honest I work in a very casual setting so button-ups I've found aren't really my thing but I do find Value in at least one white Oxford cloth button down um not much beside here goes with everything it's a really nice uh formal piece that you can add and mix in with your denim trousers and other jackets just a really simple staple when you don't know what to wear and you have to either attend a business meeting or maybe a nice dinner party this is kind of a no-brainer to throw on and it'll get you through most business casual situations next we have the gray sweatshirt if you've watched this channel long enough you see that I wear this a ton I get a ton of use out of it you can obviously go with other colors but I do think gray is just this classic color that goes with everything has this very Varsity or Sports inspired look to it that give your wardrobe a little bit of Dimension outside of you know the basic t-shirt and the basic set of trousers and denim [Music] tagging along with the sweatshirt we have a wool sweater I like to pair a gray sweatshirt with a navy sweater again it really balances the casual and business casual Vibes out so you know again if you need something a little bit more business oriented I really like this it's a little bit more slim fitting it's a little bit of a cleaner look especially in this dark color way I think it goes well with more night oriented outfits and it looks great for holiday parties this is like my go-to most of all the way from like Thanksgiving through through New Year so it's a piece that gets a lot of use and I do find that they last a really long time and wool just has this natural antibacterial property the only real upkeep you need to do to make these looking great is to de-pill them I use this d-pillar from steamery really easy to use it's basically just like shaving your face but inside your shaving fabric makes a world of difference it makes the sweater looking new throughout the year [Music] next up we have my favorite piece of midwear which is the Navy over shirt this is just a great way to add Dimension uh to an outfit it's also a quick way to add Dimension to an outfit you can really just throw it on when the weather starts to cool down and it's just as easy to take off I like the relaxed fit of it so it still allows air to flow through it's probably not going to get you through winter but again early spring late fall this is a nice piece to have on you and even when it does get a little colder it does add some texture and dimension when you go and just throw over your boring Overcoat on top so this is just like a nice subtle detail to kind of add for heavier outfits but on its own as a mid layer I think these are perfect next up we have something that's also kind of an over shirt which is the Army shirt jacket in general I just like military inspired pieces again I think it has this like cool aspect or character to your normal everyday outfits and it's just classic Timeless pieces that we've just seen throughout time because of its military nature green is also a really nice color for seasonal outfits like fall and winter and I really like this simple light shirt jacket again fills a similar void to the Navy over shirt but it's just something a little bit different to add variety and kind of help you build out a more interesting essential basic wardrobe so finally top it all off no surprise here the white sneaker the white sneaker is just a versatile durable piece of menswear that has stood the test of time it goes with everything here I really think it goes well with casual as well as business casual outfits and it is kind of the one sneaker to do it all it's also really easy to clean since leather is smooth and doesn't absorb stains as easily so these are going to last you a really long time personally I do like mine a little bit dirty and I've started to stray away from the really simple silhouette of kind of just the tennis sneaker and I've gone more towards a clean minimal basketball sneaker one I'm a huge basketball fan and two I think it's just a little bit more interesting and it's slightly less chunky than kind of the Classic Air Force One silhouette this is something that is going to add just a little bit more Dimension I think and it's something a little bit different than kind of your standard tennis sneaker so if you are looking for something different but want that minimal white shoe aesthetic this is where I would go when it comes to minimal sneakers I've also gone on record with saying common projects is one of my favorite sneakers they were great but they've slowly started the price creep and they're not as much of a value proposition as they used to be they used to be under 300 used to be able to get them on sale for like under 200 so to fill that void I've found Artisan lab men man Artisan lab man and they make a very similar sneaker that comes from the same town I'm pretty sure it comes from the same Factory but don't quote me on it can't find any hard resources but the sneaker quality is just as great they use a similar silhouette again I would not be surprised if this is just the same manufacturer and these two companies just brand them differently you'll notice this does not have the gold lettering and I really like that it's a lot cleaner I think it's a lot less gaudy even though we are talking about very minor details but this is the sneaker I would get and it comes in at 200 if you go and pre-order you can save a little bit more money so if I do it all over again this is how I would do it I've gone through my fair share of clothing and I think
