you all right so it's time to start the annual yeah I think as you saw on the end of the last from one of the last videos drained oil so that's now all on this bucket just setting that drain off there I just spoke to my ia this morning and he has given me we go ahead to get all the special panels off we'll get these strips off I'll get the ring root fairings off will get the cowling covers off tail cone I'm so fairing here and then I guess the hub cap so get off the wheels get the gear fairing off so you can inspect that and all of the Swiss cheese holes under the wing here so that's the job for today so now we've got all these little screws out here on the top of the cowling a little plug boy stur off and loosened up the plug wire here you just have to take this one off cuz that goes into the nose cowling tip that should all lift off now take off the fuel cap yeah [Music] so now before we get all these little our fairings off always stick a bit of masking tape on there and then right so we'll put the side on here to starboard and put a little arrow to the front things back together another little trick trick that makes it easier to get back together take these little paper cups here write down what screws you got to put in there starboard wing joint fairings and then you can keep the screws going back where they came from okay another nine screws and another faring off those screws little box all right now we're doing a wing rip fairings and here's something I don't normally show my videos well on the belly lots of it I'm cleaning that off for a while did you get that done Lisa's keeping corrosion away okay that's the wing root covers off the wing fairing covers all off see-through mean attachment bolts the wings they're huge bolts and yeah bellcranks for the ailerons you see all that but some of the Swiss cheese covers off haven't got the gear fairings off yet cowlings all off spin it off roots bearings tail so that's a good start and sagadal's work I think we call it a day and there's all the bits in the labeled little pots raise you go back on sitting underneath the Stearman okay so what's the date it's the 15th of February this is the latest update on my annual say the plugs are out here's the problem so we found the source of the oil leak which is leaking from apparently this this seal here I think has a garlic seal that goes in in there and that perished so that's where my oil leak that was leaking from so I can get a new gasket easily that goes up to the accessory case there but the problem is you can see these two bolt holes here have been they're ruined we look at the bolts that were in there no one's not too bad this one you can see not a good condition bolt threads it's there was a helical in there from sometime in the past so I think we either need to repair this starter pad starter fixes on here or get a new starter which is what Vernon has recommended anyway what else we done we've I put a new grommet in if you can see that there this was this had a gap and I was worried about this main battery cable here rubbing on the firewall so that's nice replaced new air filter element down there and the other change I did was this boot here had completely perished and now that's a brand new one from univer hopefully keep some fumes out of the cabin here's the starter off looking into the accessory gears there that's the accessory cover and the Magneto's to Magneto's and the big old alternated error and the tack drive or is he still on compression checks done and apparently everything is good mid-70s on the compressions I've got to get some lubricant to lubricate up the control linkages and everything and then I think once we sort out a starter issue that's the big issue we can get back in the air oh and I also had a few Nick's on my prop that you can see laying down there and Bill's taking care of that that's all been cleaned up and balanced mr. reference here is the starter it's a Prestolite starter that I have never had a problem with it and this is the seal that has to be replaced this what's going on with the annual no problems with corrosion spotted anywhere bills done a nice thorough inspection there okay so we'll take know what I do well this worked pretty slick this way what I'll do is turn this around a little light and I'm gonna push down on this you see this will push that electrum towards your electrode so I'll take the 15 on there mm-hmm you see and I'll push down I'll just keep moving this thing keep moving to keep moving I keep moving it keep moving it and but it just starts to touch I stop okay it'll spring back and that was the 15 in there now you've got the 90s I'm gonna go just a tad more okay oh yeah that's a useful a little device yes hey guys won't fit through there yeah I mean we'll go part way but none no but this should go through see nothing so then I'll just pull it up I'll turn that around do the same thing all right yeah you can visibly see the difference that was quite a long way out yeah mm-hmm then you can buy little tools that'll have a little thumb wheel and you just turn it in like that okay and they're pretty inexpensive I'm not sure where I got this thing that's pretty hefty one yeah you got it okay should I try one sure all right see you tomorrow [Music] she has my cleaned up plugs top ones are all good well nice and clean gapped and ready to go back on the bottom ones my a wasn't too complimentary on my maintenance on those he said I should have been having them out and cleaning them more regularly so I've actually ordered four new ones for the bottom these two here obviously a little bit more not so good at all so waiting for those to come in and we get the plugs in back around the back of the aircraft here here's the elevator linkage everything looks pretty good here I just need to finish lubricating here and then that can all go back together tail beacon connection and the other thing I did actually was clean under here so that's all looking a lot cleaner than it was in focus I think that oil leak was leaving a bit of a trail of oil under the belly is the aileron bellcranks they will be lubed up new oil filter marked with a number of hours on the tack so we know when it was done a new safety wire and there's another look at the sparkling clean belly there's the main fuel in that line going through the gas colita which is where I'd sump from that's the lowest point in a system and that feeds through there into the marvel carburetor updraft carburetor linkages have all been checked we have a visitor looks a bit unruly who is this is this Bionic legs flying cowboy that's right look at that and so that was the whole original concept of Fred Wix design was incorporating the writers into the ailerons through this ingenious mixer that will show you so the original air coups had no rudder pedal controls for the pilot at all you simply steered the aircraft like a car right it was a factory option you could you could say I want the pedals in there was a kid you could retrofit them or you could get it from the factory as well but yes a lot of people oughtta vert coupes and a lot of the hardcore air coop owners say shouldn't have rudder pedals to be an original are they right as a new guy learning how to fly right well it meant I didn't have to have the to control limitation on my license yep oh really down here all right so we're looking at the mixer here now and then James if you can hold the light and do the controller controls okay so there's the ailerons going the tubes out that we're looking at aircraft aft is that way and then that's the elevator up and down and now none of us can get up there and reach the rudder pedals but it's this way yeah yeah for the rudder pedals and so if you want to put the mixture mixer it back in you just take off these turnbuckles and somehow these connects onto these two under here and then it would be so remove those ailerons again and let's see if this moves yeah so there goes your rudder control to get mixed in with the ailerons which begs the question what do you do in a crosswind landing situation in an air coop with no rudder pedals and the landing gear is designed to land in a crosswind right right let's check that as yeah okay Sunday the 29th of February bill my ia has made some good progress starters back on and really went back to we're on to bolting things back together so first stop first drop of the day is the lower cowling here I just cleaned this up decreased it and we're gonna put it on underneath the engine here these four screws and then there's another little bit of kill it goes around to fair and fair in this bit here talking up the bolts what do we say that thirty to twenty five to thirty right the her McCauley docks with an old school yeah we've good experience behind it okay so we've got a brand new spark plug here and put in the bottom gapped and obviously checked clean so we need to put some of this anti-seize little brush on here that should be enough to get spread around as we screw it in the gaskets on their brand new annealed gasket copper gasket and try not to drop it as you screw it in there there we go that's going in nice and easily up to finger tight looks good looks good easier said and done my neighbors back alright new plugs I'll hand tight now we talk these up you know 30 25 to 30 onto the top plugs remove those are for the top plugs I'm gonna reuse my nicely cleaned and gap plug head in before check down there with a bright light nothing no bits of lead left anymore so and the gap gaps are correct so we're just going to put these new annealed copper gaskets on and you're good to go let me go into the top make sure it's nice and rotating nicely so now on these lower plugs just need to put the plug wires back back on the plug [Music] very good the nose at your knee okay I probably should have put in before I put that on but you can certainly do it without taking off so that's what we'll do I don't think I'll be up to video this one those tricky to get the camera up there and this is a tricky one that's it no problems no threads thread problems that one's in these two are in and talked up time plug leads good plugs in okay I'm gonna call it quits for today get home gun boom fire with the family there's some good progress put some RTV in a couple of holes on a fire wall there empty screw holes where wires used to come through and don't anymore plugs in and talked and Bill has the starter on safe did looks good all the baffles are back and a props on nicely saved in my bill you three-quarter inch the screws will be engraved loosely for a while we maneuver everything to get it all in place you this is the walk from my hangar to the terminal building here which is where we will meet Sunday mornings for flying stories coffee and donuts really nice little airport there's a lot of experienced people let's gonna see who's in here okay that's the portside wing route on now I got the fairings to go I did lube up the Bell cranks there a Tom Bell cranks that's done just gonna put those covers on and then the Swiss cheese covers under the wing okay so let's have a look in here just did like a little 60-second run so I'm a Jake still now that's good that'll smell of oil I think I got someone the exhaust they're from the lot look somewhere down there you can see it on the air intake hose there but I don't see anything just a very quick run obviously so it really shouldn't be any but good sign up fuel the car from there crying I did yeah there's been some fuel on there that's okay that's just just from the priming nothing no drips on the rocker covers what would the alternates they used to get a drip on it pretty quickly that's about as good as we can hope right now let me get the other wing fairings on and people take it for a taxi up to the run-up area hey left mag that's a 75 drop that's okay right mag is 30 40 drop very good back to 1700 RP okay so here we go after the full static RPM run up and drips here should think of from the pushrod tubes maybe imagine that's where there's definitely some wetness up there it looks pretty good under the alternator there that still looks pretty good so that was a ten minute run up to full static rpm and quite a lot of 1700 run up speed so yeah I'm pretty happy with that those little drips not sure okay well we're all back together my little test test run was pretty good there so got the interior pass baggage shelf in but that's it they're all good get some fuel and have a test flight you
