hi welcome to episode 28 of the little redmonton podcast my name is carrie i'm jillian we are the owners of the little red mitten in little ribbon whatever that is in st thomas ontario canada and the dyers behind the owner oxyango man oh man we're never gonna get this right all right we no longer care so how are you i'm good good i'm just going to turn this cast ons let's jump right into it very fast yeah carry fashion well i feel like we've already talked for the better part of a half an hour so we have nothing to say to include these people then okay we've got nothing to say we got nothing i have no cast ons so apparently i still have nothing to say if we're jumping right to castle we discovered jalen discovered a new feature on iphone oh a new siri feature yeah hey siri remind me when i'm near shopper's drug mart what do you want to be reminded about jumping okay i spoke okay so we haven't ironed out the cakes yet at some point siri's going to remind me about jumping so there are some kinks but the essence of it siri hey siri hey siri hello hi there oh hi can you remind me when i'm near shoppers drug mart to pick up toilet paper toilet paper it left bye siri not working it does work i swear hey siri hello hey siri siri sorry hey siri this is fun okay never mind siri hello is that your computer i think that's the tablet at the front of the store okay this is ridiculous we've now wasted two minutes on this let's just tell them about it it clearly doesn't work when you've got one two three four five six seven apple products apple products in the same yeah um you can ask siri to remind you which you've always been able to do it uses the reminder app but you can ask siri to remind you if you have your location service turn services turned on on your reminder app to remind you when you're near places so you can say hey siri can you remind me when i'm near the grocery store you'd have to name which grocery store um to pick up cereal and she pops up and says which location and you choose your location um and she'll remind you when you're near when your location's near there to go pick up stuff yeah it's all very 1984 but i tried i tried to use it to remind to tell me something when i got near carrie um just because we both have multiple apple devices and um she took the instructions but she didn't remind me when i was near her so i don't know so she's she's picked up on her habit she just drops the ball on too right so i'm not sure i'm not sure if she sensed that we were together yet or if if that's just not a thing that's gonna actually work but um yeah i think that's super cool we have we did discover this on our watches a while ago we can't it's going to be echoey here isn't it i don't think i have my walkie-talkie turned on no so you can use your watches as walkie-talkies so if jolin's upstairs and i need her instead of hollering up the stairs except for carrie doesn't have her walkie-talkie turned on so what's the point yeah that's yeah i felt like it was draining the battery a bit because every time you were here it was always searching for you it's like we're killing children yeah yeah so anyway i did freak carry out at her house the one time do you remember oh you did with so knows oh no but with the walkie-talkie i'll tell the story sorry too but with the walkie-talkie i paged you and you were sitting in your living room and you were like what is that because we did try to figure out if it worked just over wifi like because we both have cellular and just to see if we could use walkie-talkie and no it doesn't work you have to be in the same area but um she's like what's happening i'm like i'm at your front door yeah it was freaky it would have only worked if you were at my front door but when i wasn't expecting you yeah it freaked me out yeah that was funny well that's good okay cast ons no okay cast on cast off she's skipping sonos oh yeah tell the sonos story so when we first got our sonos speakers here at this shop well that people don't know sonos is a wireless speaker system yeah so um carrie was setting it up at the shop and i was getting notifications on my phone and my app that like oh this one's connected and blah blah so i knew she was at the shop setting it up and i had already connected it to my alexa um when we got the first speaker or whatever and so i said to my alexa at home i said alexa play who let the dogs out on the sock room speaker and so carrie's at the shop alone with it all closed up and it started playing it was startling it was awesome i was startling cracked me up at home even though i wasn't sure it worked or anything i still thought it was funny i still haven't plugged in uh redone my sono or my alexa at home so my parrots have alexa yep that's right my parrots have alexa in their room in their bird room um but frankie my african grey always turns it on and off so she's grounded from alexa she always says alexa actually it's it's all comes into a sequence of events so if we say okay bye birds bye frankie gotta go to work she says okay she says uh what did she say gotta go to work gotta go to work work work work alexa play country so i should get that hooked up for her you should yeah oh and she now refers to herself as a burb because i always call the birds burbs and frankie refers to herself as a birb hi burb it's a little weird anyways so that's it cast on i'm focused in today sure that's what that was i'm on trade 24 of 26. oh yeah focused in you're focused in 24 she's now talking about braces 24 of 26. so apparently tray 24 25 26 are all just retainer trays to tighten up the ligaments i'm gonna call on that because my front tooth really hurts so hopefully i won't have to do a third round my 10 months of braces it has turned into 19 months just in that long yeah yeah just because of pandemic and shutdowns and surgery and yada yada cast ons don't you like how focused she is opal handmade is that right yeah oval handmade i love this bag i found it it's not really find it it's i've got a lot of bags and it's like hey i forgot about this one yeah you have a lot of bags yeah so i couldn't help it but i had to cast on uh andrea mowry's even fall it's a caller even well i can't even look on this because on nick companion i have it listed as oh good where are they bear with me man i don't know i had it up here in the app store you're not in your companion this is nick companion that one is oh did you just see it did you see it i did there it is open that's weird okay well even but it's written as evan did you type that or no it's a spell check thing spell check autocorrect it's not just what's on the pattern though no it's even fall my autocorrect keeps calling it evan evan fall nice it's even fall yeah thanks i don't have enough problems with remembering stuff as it is so i am it's the pattern calls for a light fingering uh i'm doing it in leon roxy basics i'm using classic gray queens navy cherry cobbler and i love it look at that see how springy it is it feels so nice yeah it's soft and it's springy and it's a fun pattern um do a collar later yeah yeah so i feel like i'm not getting anywhere because this keeps rolling and because it's springy it i feel like i just keep knitting and it keeps getting smaller so you just start right in and then you pick up later and do a picot bind off but look at that i don't know if you can see that oh look at it what's the stitch pattern um knit one slip one and one slip one every row uh where like when you first change colors do you knit so uh well it's definite pattern in the middle of each of these so in the middle of each of these rows is one solid row okay so it's a solid row white navy so is it navy three it is um i guess you don't have to give the whole pattern away there you go it's like a i'd say it's a four row a four row it's a four row repeat cool yeah anyways i highly recommend it it is fun it is squishy um gauge is a little tricky so i just went with the called four needles and it seems to be pretty darn close um i think it's very forgiving so i've been working on that for a little bit well two nights so that's exciting that's my only cast on don't you remember where you were at no no but look at me all professional i've got my laptop sitting here what look at me all professional the master whip list what's this i feel like that can't be right okay i don't understand it was edited 10 days ago oh was it yeah okay so i just keep sliding down no right there at the top oh go back see there's your list right there okay okay i have 15. oh okay oh that's all right yeah so you were at 18 but i feel like 27 isn't in here episode 27 is not huh weird those were you didn't finish anything in episode 27. never mind folks stop yelling at me on tv stop it okay pardon as well carrie's professional over here laser focus and hyper uber professional uber like uber like a driver uber driver here professional i have no cast on so okay whips like there's really nothing here's my shell here's where i was last time here's where i am now it's garter stitch wow i actually just last night moved on to the next sec section it starts to change okay to stock in it so it's going to start changing but you can't see anything yet because it hasn't actually really started that yet so there you go wow it was boring that's two weeks progress yeah okay well that's not bad that's an inch of garter yeah has passing up and driving i don't remember tonight okay all right emails and stuff to do in the car okay cool that's awesome [Laughter] okay well now i just kind of feel bad because i spent a lot of time knitting and you clearly don't okay you took a week off well that's true yeah i spent a lot of time in the car okay i do have actually one of those types of lips i worked on my european road trip i don't even know what's it what is this called it's just stalking that right yeah knit one way purl back the other way and it's done growing and you're just going straight up now i'm just going straight up and that's what i've accomplished since the last time i showed it it's so boring it's so boring yeah like i'll do it if i'm super tired and i just yeah but it doesn't keep my interest very long this is in holster coast and i blame lisa from yeah it's not really her fault she's probably done hers oh she's done her she's done her mother she's done adrienne's she's yeah she's done them today all she did was cast on and carrie said i'm gonna cast that on she didn't say hey everybody join me no no not at all i didn't even work on this yes i did wrong bag wrong bag so this is the uh super professional this is the carrie bloomer knits knit along that i have not posted about or anything i'm doing it totally under totally on the lam so this week was doing the body just posting about it make it real oh then i have nothing real zero things real no for a knit along i still have zero things real i post nothing that's true okay no i just meant with the knit along i didn't mean to make you feel bad it's just what the middle i don't feel bad just don't have anything real so i just think with the knit along if you're supposed to like post and use their hashtag and yeah but we don't do it for our own store so why would we be good at that for our own knit alone yeah it's like my um grocery girls come from fade cardi knit along that they started in march and i've just done the body i haven't done the sleeves haven't done the collar that's not bad for a sweater though like are they still working on it or whether they're supposed to be oh wait no no no no not at all that's all right in my head i'm doing the grocery girls knit along um okay so this is carrie bloomer net last week uh was a knit the body sorry two weeks ago was knit the body this week was a catch-up week and i'm i used it to get a little bit ahead of the game i don't know this is kind of weird is it like super cropped oh super cropped it's like like right yeah it just comes the knot sits right below your bra straps so uh did the body can you help me hold this because it's kind of awkward did the body um and i'm at the neckline [Music] um and i'm working starting to work up the the flat back and forth for the whatever you call those things the straps shoulders yeah the strings i called uh corn on the cob the like the cob i still can't find the word what is it called a husk yeah i called it a corn shield [Laughter] yeah we say um okay so anyways this is in malabrigo saw in not in persia and wait for it aguas there's a lot of cords so i'm working on that i think this coming monday the we'll be working on the shoulders front and back you don't have anything okay i do i have something no i don't do any more wipes you have lips yeah so i took last week off and i spent a lot of time in the car so i got quite a few things worked on so these are my astrid socks that i that have been so i still need to make those i really want to make those they've just been languishing i don't know what they call it but they've just been sitting around so i picked these back up um you can actually see where they were sitting on the needles right there so i got the rest of the leg i can't have been sitting that long we only got the gray in yeah that's true it hasn't been super long so is this silver streak or pencil point pencil point i think and uh i can't tell without comparing the raspberry ripple and antique aubergine yeah there you go so that's good um i don't do a lot of in fact i don't think i've ever done have i done color work socks before i don't know i feel like probably one one thing maybe i don't know if i have or not but anyways i'm really enjoying them i love this how this is defined this pattern is astrid by uh tracy miller from grocery girls and it's cute it's really cute this is my yeah this is my favorite feature i love how it hugs the heel yeah and then there's a little band of uh matching color work i believe at the just before you start the toe so that's good it's slow going but that's fine um i should say i should say that because our basics is a light fingering i think i've said this before um i dropped down a needle size so these are on the 2.0 millimeter i don't know what that is in the us zero zero or something like that um and i did a 72 stitch sock and i love the fabric it's not saying that you can't do it on your regular size with your regular stitch count it just won't be as dense and i like a dense sock just personal preference so i did that [Music] this is my sea glass tea and i was up very early this morning and i had the opportunity to knit for two hours on the porch before i got ready for work two hours folks from six to eight i need that determination i've been up since five but did nothing yeah i grabbed a blanket because it was flipping cold it was late i laid there and went i need more than four hours sleep that's what i did with my time being up since five and then it slowly became closer to six and closer to seven and went i can't fall back asleep because then if i actually fall asleep i'll sleep too late and that will suck okay i need to tell you i'm gonna tell you my secret so i have had i was having a really difficult time sleeping as you know and they blamed it on anesthetic and pump head and stuff like that so um it didn't change until and i know everybody says this all the time put down your phone i used to do audible or watch videos to fall asleep a week ago i shut it down i don't touch my phone at night and i picked up an actual paper book with a reading light oh i could and that's what i'm doing now and i fall asleep within like less than 10 minutes on sound asleep and on all my new glasses i got the blue light filter we need to order glasses yeah i need to order my glasses so um yeah i just went through i buy direct and i got blue light filters on everything all my new glasses and it actually works i can't believe how i'm up at like as soon as the sun comes or as soon as daylight i'm up and it gives me that time in the morning to do whatever i either worked doing emails or i'll watch um youtube videos or i'll sit knit and i just sit outside and i get my outdoor fresh air time and that's what i've been doing anyways sea glass tea i managed to cast off this morning while i was outside it's um not super cropped again remember i'm short waisted three inches shorter than most and uh it comes right to my top of my face and how much longer are your arms than most yeah but i black there i make up here so i'm like a bar oh my gosh i don't know like we're the same height yeah that's ridiculous very long arms and my daughters are even longer like really yeah like in elementary school where you had to your shorts had to come to your fingertips she was wearing bermudas all the time because her arms are so long anyways yeah so this has got a lot of different scraps and minis in it and it's obviously not blocked not sure what i'm going to do about the sleeves it's only like a two inch sleeve but i don't think they're going to match because i don't think i have enough of matching stuff like they're not going to line up with the body or anything i'm just going to do my own thing you can make them match each other they don't have to match the body right you can make them match each other you'll have enough scraps so i'm not even sure how i feel about it i think it's okay i got a little light towards the bottom um it's scratchy put it on and see i bet you it would be cute with jeans it'll be cute yeah i think it'll be okay i thought i just can't have too much else going on like that's the color in your in your day that day yeah i bought a pair of denim overalls from the gap so uh this is what's earmarked for that it's gonna be an outfit folks you judge but i do judge i do judge you know how i feel about stuff from the 80s coming back and that's i was so excited i saw them and and they were like a hundred dollars and i thought hell with it i'm just gonna do it but then i got to the cash register and they were like 59. it's like one of those whatever 30 off sales or something so i thought win win i was going to pay a hundred and i only had to pay 60. win-win win-win should have just kept your ones from okay what we're recording um okay what else um where was i i don't know your phone rang yeah you were showing what did you show you showed yours yours yeah oh lillypilly willy nelly we weren't talking about lillypilly yet but now she's moved on okay j henry oh look at if it's not bird poop it's lint j henry medium wedge maybe yeah um again this is another it's very leo in roxy basics heavy uh this is again as leon roxy um basics silver streak yeah antique aubergine amazing black basic black so i got a fair amount yeah so when we named these colors we have little tiny swatches yeah like micro like yeah like little tiny swatches so we named this basic black it should be like charcoal it should be like it's it's dark but it's not saturated black no it's black but it's not black and then we have white then we have we called not quite white that should be called white this is big and white it's we need a w word holy white really we'll spell really with a w it's really and this should be not quite black or they're barely black barely black barely black that's a good one so really really white and that might be not politically correct why whaley white i don't know okay wheelie white i don't know what and what's political about the word but anyway um yeah i it was it was just funny it was just funny that those were the names we chose for them and it was like they were just off by that little bit in the wrong direction because the white as far as merino like our wool yarn goes our white our white that we don't have anymore in stock right now our white is white it is white it is super white yeah which um yeah it's just funny because usually it's slightly slightly yellow yeah so anyways white's not in here no um i just wanted to say that about the word so silver streak basic black which isn't quite black and antique oversheen so the last time i was here i don't know if i moved my marker okay let me get this out of the little wrangly case last time i was here i had just finished uh the lace section and i did one roll of garter wow what's happening here at it okay there we go oh i do think i have a thing over there anyways so um i don't know i'm going to say maybe on a third of the way down this no you didn't move the progress keeper that was yeah before um i'm about a third of the way maybe through these stripes again the boredom level gets a little high but i really like it and then i think there's another lace section and then maybe just a itty bit of the stripes again to finish it off it's going to be big it's a it's a big one i was going to start the um find your fade i can't this is like just it's a big shawl i didn't think it was this big anywho super nice super soft super drapey love it but that's not actually i think that is all because i didn't actually touch my woodland my woodland animals okay yep that's it apples yep yay although i was gonna weave in my ends and i never got to it so i don't know is it an fo i don't know if if it was my f o it would be a no but for you for sure yeah it doesn't count for you no cause you tried that on me i've always said i'm done knitting i only need it i don't do other things yeah oh that's amazing i don't sew so i love it it looks like oh look you finished a sweater but i believe i showed this last time because i picked it back up and i was just finishing i don't know where i got to before i showed it last time but since i've picked it back up i had to do a few rows of purple and the ribbing and then i picked up the sleeves did the purple and the this literally with however many stitches were on the sleeve and then the ribbing on both sleeves so like it was nothing but yeah it's done but it has ends and i'm assuming there's quite a few because it's striped so oh as a matter of fact there is quite a few oh my ends that yeah oh yeah that's never happening okay and she will just wear it like that i will just wear it like that i will weave in the ones that hang out um come on i've seen you wear sweaters and you having to take the stitch markers off of them the progress keepers yeah um it's done man grab that cowl oh yeah so this was laying here as a display thing for a year yep a year with the i'm sure there's pictures out there with the ends of the i-cord yeah and the end right here from the mower the cast on or whatever yeah um there for like a year and katrina walked in and goes what happened i'm like oh those are just bags they've never been woven in so while she was here um modern moderating a class or whatever doing the computer stuff yeah she woven almost nice oh that's what friends are for she's like it's a display item for the store yeah thanks katrina yeah i have to say it looks a lot better actually hi mary lou being finished looks better yeah that's weird you're not on camera okay you're fine yeah you're just looking at yourselves oh no we're recording okay just i just couldn't see you your voice is on camera now but i couldn't see you good morning oh that's funny yeah i was just going to say it does look a lot better with the ends woven in you should have done it forever ago i know no okay so you that was your f oh that's fantastic good job yay we should insert that applause yay oh my gosh okay so it's covered i have an apple my slubby raglan it's the basic raglan by ho he and this was such a great knit um such a well-written pattern and i think i talked about it a little bit last time her construction is a little bit different than i think what we're used to but the short rows they were just trust the pattern it was great such a great fitting sweater i just love it uh i have dk weight in my stash that is been earmarked for another one of these i have that really pretty deep deep deep green uh pure wool that we put at knitting loft yep can't remember i think it's a finish finish well um yeah i absolutely love it this is malabrigo well bring a sock in you said it earlier no that's a different color no you said it early though you said it's not oh and then i can't remember i can't remember what i said earlier and then a lagoon full moon fibers the moon rock slope love it took three skeins of each with quite a bit of leftovers from the malabriko sock probably enough to for a hat maybe of the slob from the third skein yeah probably yeah that slub goes a long way it does it does anyways i love it uh you guys should get on board on this because it's a great pattern great combination i think we should do a slub knit along i loved holding it double yeah i want to do that one yeah i'll definitely do it again it's uh it feels great yeah anyway so that's my fo can you pull up the ravelry page yeah yeah okay go to mine oh no it's it's gonna be in the fos okay i don't think it's gonna tell me [Music] yeah i was trying to remember when i cast it on oh yeah yeah that would be a good one the car bath that's a quick knit big needles anyway yeah oh you know what this should tell me right here should it not of what wait orange and my stuff so i'm not sure what you're looking for oh persia now the brico's stock persia can i unlock yes where do you see it i didn't it just it just came from there i saw persian tiles and that's what it is number 16. yeah persia okay um [Music] even fall kits we have even fall kits in leo and roxy on the leon roxy website um different combinations that uh are close to the how it was designed does that make any sense the colors the color design the colors that andrea mary used in hers yeah used similar colors and then a few other options yeah so those are available on leo and roxy little red mitten uh new stuff new stuff so we got an order in from jennifer from the yarn therapist um we got in self striping sock this is all on little redmond website self striping sock um this kills me this colorway is called unicorn hole [Music] that's funny yeah that's one of her like classic colors yeah forever so that's a traditional stripe self-stripping self striping yeah these ones are what does she call them micro stripe micro stripe and like they fade or ombre down so you can make two matching pairs you need to start the one from the inside one from the outside to get the matching pairs because they meet in the center of the skein but um yeah it will fade through the colors it doesn't yeah it doesn't repeat like the traditional yeah jillian put uh photos of samples of the micro striping on uh instagram and i believe they're on the listing they should be uh for the product on little redmond as well we also got in her self-striping yolks sweater yolks which are really super cool i didn't grab any of the shawl ones either oh no i didn't so i just grabbed the worsted um okay so worsted weight sweater yolks things are gonna go off the rails now folks now that we've got an audience uh yeah okay you need to slide over okay [Laughter] they're laid out in sizes so this is 150 150 gram yolk 300 yards and then we have this is the same colorway but it's itty bitty it's 30 grams so it'd be for like a baby sweater or toddler sweater yeah we have the numbers it does sizes we should have brought that with us but it does a certain size range so you start from the center because that has the shortest amount of color so you have fewer stitches when you first cast on your sweater and then jennifer's a genius with math yeah and she increases how much yardage you have in each color so you get equal sized stripes down your yoke as your sweater grows yeah it's magical it's very magical so we have a couple of different colorways and they work for sorry they work for any top-down sweater yeah and yeah we got the three different colorways we tried and then you just want to pair this with your main color so you do your yoke and you could do like a color work pattern so you can have a main color and then be just working this as the second color and it will graduate through the colors or as simple as like like carrie sweater that she just finished it could just be a basic raglan or a basic yolk um style and then you'd end up with just stripes coming through it and then you just pick up with your you just color down the body and the brilliant so we also have a self striping shotgun shell kit i'm not sure um and they're in a fingering weight i believe we've got different blends there might be an 80 20 in there and 100 merino um yeah and again they do the work for you so if you've got a simple a simple shawl pattern uh boomerang or a triangle type shawl it'll just do the work for you yeah any of those like classic traditional where you start with the tab and you start with the small thing at the top yeah so you again start on the inside and start like a top down shawl or i suppose you can go the opposite if it's if it casts on with the long edge you could go from the outside if you're decreasing up to a smaller um point but it yeah it's for like one of those triangles or however you start at a corner not where you do a tab in the middle and work out where you start with the tab oh that will work with the tab that's what these are for they start with oh i thought it was for a triangle or um a crescent oh okay start with the tab and you go okay so they're not ideal for when you cast on three stitches and you start growing out like my early pilli if no i would say no because then you usually start decreasing again so in a in a top down one you start with fewer stitches and you go grow grow until you have 300 and some odd stitches and all those stripes are going to be even if you started here you could grow at the same rate like two or four stitches per [Music] row like two stitches per row so you'd grow at the same rate but then you start going back the other way and you'll have more yarn so you'll get blocked it would probably be a fun effect you have thinner stripes and then thicker stripes and stuff like that you you could do something fun with it but as far as how it's designed yeah it would you start with like a tab and you work your way down um and yeah that's fine it's really cool i'm gonna do one of these cool so um most of these we got on on the 17 micron merino base so there's no nylon in these it's a very fine merino it is so soft this is if you've ever bought leo and roxy's dk or worsted it's the same merino in the fingering weight which is why i think she puts them in the little canvas bag so that they don't yeah it just keeps everything keeps everything nice and tidy nice and tidy for packing up for shows and for going on the shelf yeah so you don't get worn and because you're working from the outside it's perfect you've got your project yeah or not your project bag but you've got your yarn keeper yeah great with it oh that's great so those are fun that's what's new in the shop um as far as new products go yeah unicorn haul love it excellent okay so we talked about she has a nice nice baby too leo roxy has a nice nice baby colorway and it so happens to be blue imagine that we name something blue ice go figure okay so we talked about even fall kits we talked about yarn therapist um the next thing is uh we're prepping for the are we prepping for something yeah the scout shawl knit along we're gonna do a scout shawl knit along uh come september that's all i gotta say about the royal we are you're not gonna do it no no okay i think i am i think i am gonna do it it's a manageable project it's color work uh i think it's gorgeous i think it's absolutely beautiful katrina will insert a picture um if you looked at the ravelry rivalry uh photos of finished projects there's some really interesting color combinations and i'm gonna use it as like a jumping off spot to kind of get out of my comfort zone so i'm gonna use like teals uh teals with a pop of orange and not orange in the for the majority of it but just in a few spots because you pick out the colors you're thinking about using to show yeah i'll go get them is it already a kit no they're all loose you can see oh loosey goosey oh it might be kid i don't know yeah i i know my limitations i know it's something i would cast on and never finish so it is okay so new shirt line what i just wanted to see if it was the gap too because you talked going to the gaps okay so i'm doing this one it's got the navy light and dark teal the neutral and the orange which is really out of my comfort zone but that's what i'm doing um yeah okay what i don't think it's out of your comfort zone no you just don't pair orange with like the blues normally you pair your orange with pink you like orange juice oh that's like one of your favorite yeah yeah so i don't think it's that far that's true that's true if those were if those were pink you'd just be right on it but you're not against blue so yeah i don't think it's that far out of your comfort zone it's probably just a little bolder then so we've got um i think this is close to what it was designed for in the pinks and the greens that's so pretty it is very pretty and then we've also um as you may or may not know we are we carry jameson jameson smith most if not all of the colors i think we had we had all of them for sure so yeah uh so we've put them together we've missed new releases so basically actually this is pretty close to the other one um so we put them together with jameson and smith as well now yeah that's close to the one kerry's gonna do green greens and yeah not greens blues and oranges yeah so uh these are not quite available yet um not quite available yet but they will be very soon you know what they're not available now but by the time this video is up they should be up they should be live on the site that was a lot of information never mind um so one of the questions that we were asked because it's color work and you're picking up things and you're doing entire intarsia along the edge and i've never done intarsia so i'm kind of excited about that and learning a new thing somebody uh asked us for to put together um a hand-dyed handout kit for them first of all this is very reasonably priced yarn so it's um not a huge financial commitment to join this cow or to make a scout shell [Music] it starts getting a little bit pricier with the hand dye because you're buying 30-ish dollar skeins of yarn i wanted to talk about superwash versus non-superwash with colorwork and the benefits okay so generally speaking you're just gonna let me just fumble through this right you said bring it on me okay uh you said i wanted to talk yeah i hate you so but you know how i am with my lack of words okay um we're talking about superwash versus non-superwash so this is the color work shawl um [Music] so what are the properties [Laughter] my cardio is right back to baseline uh okay okay okay okay okay it's not nice it's not what okay let's let's start over oh i think this needs to be okay oh we are not educators [Laughter] can you imagine educated okay so she knows what she's talking about non-super washed yarn has properties it's like your hair it's a protein fiber it's got little sticky things coming out of it little cuticles right they stick up so when you do color work all those little fibers stick together this is the international sign for non-super washes fiber sticking together fibers sticking together that's why you can felt uh non-superwash yarn so easily because all those fibers they just like that you know things i do i just can't i don't have words to explain them superwash yarn goes under a process whether it be yeah chemical process are there are more environmentally conscious yeah there's a few different stuff there's a few different processes but to make it superwash where it removes that cuticle yeah so um therefore when you're doing color work they're not sticking together as well now it also the benefits of superwash is that you can throw it in the machine on a gentle cycle i still wouldn't do it no that still makes me crazy yeah but i mean it has been done accidentally i've i've thrown superwash socks into my load some socks is fine um i do find they fade faster when they do fade faster yeah but um yeah yeah i don't know i don't mind the socks as much because they're knit denser and stuff too so i don't i don't find those but i couldn't imagine putting a whole sweater in and load regularly like like i would throw my other like in with my other clothes yeah i don't know never um i kind of think of it almost as uh like your hair so if you wash your hair with like a a drying shampoo that's kind of how non-super wash yarn is but then when you condition your hair it kind of smooths down all those cuticles and that's kind of like super wash yarn so we tend to use traditionally you use non-superwash yarns for color work um that's not to say that you can't oh and yeah we definitely have we have sweaters definitely have you have sweaters and stuff done with superwash and um yeah like it it definitely has its place but there are there are a few things to take into consideration your gauge and stuff like that yeah it's gonna grow like you would that's right because the same properties that keep all those fibers sticky with one another on superwash yarn you don't have that so your project is going to grow a little bit gravity's going to pull it down there's nothing the integrity is not there so anyways circling back around for the scout shawl we decided to go with non-superwash options the whole scarn super soft which is not does not mean sugar washed it's just called super soft and the jameson smith jumper weight yarn so that's what we've decided on for these kits um if you would like a super washed option well i mean i was just thinking leon roxy has a few four color kits up on their site for other shawls we have the snarker meter and knit along coming up yeah and stuff so there was like there was the one that paula got yesterday yeah that had like it was similar to this actually yeah and then um without that and so i had four four colors and she added a gray that's the neutral right so um so you could go look there you could go look at some of our four color or three color shawl kits and then see what you would add to complete it you'd have more than enough yarn yeah there'd be an abundance of yarn oh yeah these are only these are 50 gram balls yeah you'd have so much yarn left over if you went with full stains okay hi again hi where were we i don't know maybe they can tell us do you know where we were married here yeah um there's yarn logic wrinkles sometimes it doesn't talk about the i think we pretty much beat that to death we're good we're good we can do we can do the superwatch kids we can do the superwash kids not a big deal like i don't think i would ever use the washroom for stinking you're saying you could use some of the other kits and bounce off there if you wanted more ideas yeah go to ravelry uh look at the finished projects there's quite a few of them and there's some really striking color combinations you can go as wild as you want or um or as subtle as you want i think it's really nice it's not an overly big shawl i think it's quite manageable it's it looks like it's quite narrow and then some length to it um basically it's just kind of a wide scarf yeah so anyways that's it that's all i got all i got um oh she has another idea yeah we talked about nick companion and we were giving away two of these we got some good responses back um two camps there's either pattern paper people or nick companion some people have like dabbled in it um wondering if the premium version is worth it in my opinion i think it is but that's totally up to you um [Music] the basic version is just fine but if you do lace and color work and you want to use those voice options and uh the timer and everything like that then you might want the premium oh yeah so we're giving away two of those stands and and jillian texted me so our video last week we had a little hiccup we had to take down the first version because we um had to edit something out so we ended up with two versions one's uh private yeah it's been hidden it's been hidden and then we've got the public one so it threw off our numbers a bit so luckily we had two stands to give away so we just drew one winner from the first hidden video and one winner from the public video so it worked out really well so from the public one it doesn't really matter uh winner number one winner number one is jennifer sf uh jennifer sf i don't know should i do that jennifer sf if you can uh dm us and we can get that out to you the other one is tina mccauley that's second winner [Music] congratulations and we will get those out to you what else i don't know i think that's i think that's about it really um a lot of people joined the little red mitten 2022 sock club that's been going really well we're excited about that operation soft drawer that's right uh winter boxes for leon roxy yeah they they're they're they're up on this they're up on the site um yeah we talked about that last time right yeah those are up on the site um do we have anything [Music] coming up we always forget about the floss uh leon roxy does you don't have a native show no uh leon roxy dies black cotton overdyed floss for cross stitch embroidery and linen um that's all available on evertote.com and exclusively linked below yeah it'll be linked below and that collection's growing like gangbusters so um lots of positive feedback it's really getting out there a lot of people are using it and liking it and so we thank you for that we should do a diet challenge we haven't been we haven't had enough time to really come up with new colors and stuff like that so we'll do a dye challenge for next okay next week all right yep um yeah i think that's it really i can't think of anything else nope i hope everybody's enjoying their summer and thanks again for joining us and we will see you oh laser focused yeah can you subscribe please can you like go down to that button that's somewhere down here not embarrassed and and hit the subscribe you can also hit the like the bell thing to be notified when you get it we get a new video that's what we're supposed to do right we're supposed to do that yeah yeah i know what's subscribe please okay bye see you next week
