Episode 21 - Tohatsu 6hp Outboard Test and Fix

all right another episode of sailing vessel ugly duck today we are going to work on another engine because I'm you know won a bunch of videos are just standing so that's still going on with a boat the meantime I got another engine I did like a two and a half hour drive it was really cool though so I was told it just doesn't spit out water so we're gonna test out before we do end up this barrel yeah a 55-gallon drum here and cut the top off so that I can use this as the water vessel to test the engine up so let's go start on that you a lot of water is filling up I need to fix this connector because this is the connector I need for the new engine but it's attached as so as we just cut the hose last time I'm actually going to take this off put a new put a new piece on it and I'll be ready to go for the new engine you so I forgot we already had one with the same the same connector on it already made and everything but it's cool because the gas can that I got from a guy that tanked for it actually has the same connector on the other end so I can put that on this end but for now I'm just gonna drop this end and the gas can test out see what happens [Music] all round the whole word supposed to drip out so I'm gonna do so I'm gonna do is I'm gonna try and and spray some water it up in there so after I turned the camera off I actually got it running and a kind of state running and it was spitting out water which is awesome that that means the impeller is good the problem is is it's not idling at all if you let off the throttle it stalls and the carb is leaking a ton of gas so just like normal fashion carbs a clogged while the carb single is clogged which I have a lot of experience himself I'm not going to show that I'm just gonna clean it you've seen me clean carbs enough so anyway I'm gonna go get start on that then we'll come back to it change my mind a little bit since this is a different engine from what you've seen in the past I will show the card removal that's right here so zoom in on that and show you that at least probably not the cleaning looks like these two are ten millimeter I actually don't necessarily need to take that off I should be able to just take this one down back there I'm not sure how I'm gonna get to that one though yeah it looks like it's better just to take these two off very easier to get to and after that we'll be able to take the rest of this off there's the other ones hidden way down in here so that camera died and I'm not gonna deal with the having to charge it and wait so you have to deal with the not-so-great audio of the GoPro bad part is I need to find the right size so yeah hang in there see if we can just kind of sneak that out you can see it here so also 10-millimeter he is perfect nice and easy you you oh boy a hernia to clean the car huh yep that looks like somebody's gasket maker there was a gasket that's a thing oh wait no no that's this part yeah as in between those yeah they didn't have these gasket maker it's probably why it's clogged that probably got down in there yeah clean it out man it's it worked but it was leaking there worked but it was leaking really bad oh okay so there's a lot of gasket maker on this side as I cleaned it out I had to scrap that off and I used my hard gasket maker to make this one to replace it because that stuff was like that gooey stuff that I used in the past and I just kind of used too much it gets down in there looks like that's it might be all it was so go ahead and get this bad boy back together you I might need to just is this fuel mixture ratio so try that if this doesn't work we'll see if that's what that does anything you [Music] no reverse well the kill switch works holy cow Wow cousin so bad take a break put this board here and mount it down so possibly break the barrel but can't come flying out like it did see if you first everybody because almost lost the wind just [Music] you
