I've watched and re-watched Naruto many times and I need to talk about it because I still can't get over some of the things that go down he always jumps in to protect people even when I tell him not to there's one moment that truly changes the scope of the series forever that is of course oski abandoning the village to join Orochimaru before that Naruto was a fun anime about a group of ninja buddies who go on adventures and take needlessly dangerous exams afterwards it was a show about a fractured group of people who would never be whole again so long as their best friend was gone the fight between Naruto and Sasuke over the latter's fate is still one of the greatest fights of all time it's gorgeously animated acted and choreographed every punch in jutsu is packed with emotion as Naruto fights for his friendship and Sasuke fights for his right to vengeance the fight ends with both unleashing their demonic powers at each other with the Chidori versus Rasengan finish ultimately Naruto fails to bring Sasuke back and leaves to Train when he returns he in the show itself for a little darker a little sadder and strangely even more hopeful despite everything that happened Naruto never gave up on Sasuke in many ways that fight between the statues never ended for Naruto until they finished it several years later in retrospect it probably shouldn't a surprise to anyone that Sasuke was going to go bad he was pretty upfront about the fact that all he wanted to do was avenge his family and destroy his brother there were plenty of warning signs that betrayal wasn't for nothing though because he eventually got his wish only it wasn't quite what he expected the long-awaited battle between the Uchiha brothers was filled with ninja trickery insane combat and all the Sharingan shenanigans you could ever want ultimately that wasn't the true draw of this reunion though in his final moments Itachi revealed the Sasuke the truth he'd always loved his brother and only destroyed the clan to save Konoha and Sasuke this reveal made Itachi the best Naruto character for some fans in many ways he was just as much a victim of the messed-up ninja world as Sasuke was Sasuke then moved on to getting his revenge on Danzo where Danzo revealed that wellmy was pretty much exactly as evil as we thought sometimes bad guys are secretly misunderstood and sometimes they've genuinely just the worst it's always fun to get one of your friends into Naruto you always know when they're getting close to an episode that'll blow their mind one of the best mind-blowing moments you can count on is when Madara Uchiha basically solos an entire army it's almost less of a fight and Mura ballet of violence as moderate effort lessly moves through crowds of shinobi this guy's been hyped up for years so we needed him to make a big show when he was finally unleashed it would have ever guessed the man was actually under hyped no one said that he was a one-man army even by shinobi standards my personal favorite moment from this fight which I rewatched clips up constantly is when one of them has a blade on him and moderate just looks at him I know that he's using his Sharingan but it honestly looks like mater is staring at him like I dare ya do something and the guys just freezes Madara doesn't need Sharingan to make a guy freeze in terror let's be honest all of Naruto Shippuden was building to one moment sure Mo's de that technically covered the shinobi world battling the Akatsuki modder and ultimately cocky but all of that was more or less just window dressing around the real conflict Naruto and Sasuke round two throughout the entire run of Shippuden Naruto learned that he had the power to change even the darkest of people through hope and resilience sasuke meanwhile learned that he had the power to take over the entire world and reshape it if he wanted to seriously those Uchiha genes basically make you a god if you apply yourself the fight was more than worth the wait as both the characters and the animators show how much they've grown for the series it starts as it did the first time with bull throwing punches and simple Jitsu at each other then it grows into a full-on demon smack down by the end though the two exhausted shinobi finished things the way it had to be done Rasengan vs. Chidori in the end Naruto saved his friend and completed his journey sure he got to become Hokage like he'd always wanted but his real prize was getting Sasuke back that's worth losing an arm right Naruto is a show that loves to set up a juicy mystery and then leave it alone for like half the run of the series seriously they teased Kakashi's mysterious Sharingan and like the first arc of the series and it wasn't until we were well into ship attend before we got the answer it turns out the Kakashi old friend rival Obito gave him his Sharingan after he apparently perished an omission only that's not where his story ended Obito had been Toby the whole time pulling the Akatsuki strings and the shadows though to be fair there were a lot of people and gods blowing the Akatsuki strings in the shadows the reveal of Toby's true identity and his reunion with Kakashi still stand as one of the show's greatest pull the rug out from under you moments it's an emotional confrontation that's almost as powerful as Sasuke and Naruto despite having only a few episodes of setup instead of two entire series Obito and Kakashi both love living that mysterious masked guy life not everybody can pull off hiding their face for decades but both of them really committed of all the famously tragic moments in the series there's one that always hits me the hardest I've always been a huge Neji fan especially after his epic fight with uglier spider-man he tomorrow might even use to rock Neji in the Naruto ninja storm games so this love goes deep and his death cuts me every time he is a pretty tried and true Naruto character arc he starts off shaded by the cruel hand the ninja world dealt him then he fights Naruto and has his entire perspective changed from there he went on to be one of Naruto's coolest if underused characters so him sacrificing his life to not only save Naruto but also get nada who he used to consider an enemy was heartbreaking though I have to say him thinking Naruto by saving his life was the perfect way for him to go it also established clear stakes for the big shinobi conflict and continues to serve as a cold reminder of the cost of it this has resonated with fans to the point where you can't have a conversation about the most tragic anime deaths without him coming up so I can forgive you Masashi Kishimoto like I guess look we all know that in an anime with a huge cast of characters not everyone's gonna make it I've seen the Cowboy Bebop finale you'd think I would be able to handle these things by now still every time I get to the Jiraiya versus paying episodes it's all I can do to not skip them this is actually so much worse to watch after you know what happens because we all know the Jiraiya is walking straight to his doom he thinks he's found a cut Skees leader when in fact he's found a collection of faces from his past as he fights his way through the various pains and slowly discovers the truth about his enemy it starts becoming clear that he's in over his head that's about the point where the pit in my stomach starts to form eventually we're proven right because pain skewers jiraiya and drops him into the water while this moment does hurt it proves to be a perfect introduction to pain as a main threat it also sets up his inevitable showdown with Naruto which is still one of my favorites of the series so it might have hurt but ultimately it was a worthy way to close out the tale of Jiraiya the gallant as an anime fan sometimes it takes a little while for you to truly love a new series like your old favorites I remember when I first watched Naruto that I always liked it but didn't quite love it like some of my friends did looking back I was just being loyal to my boys bleach Dragonball Z in one piece it takes a lot to prove that you're worthy of standing next to classics like that then the Rock Lee versus Gaara fight happened and I finally admitted it to myself and everybody else Naruto is amazing this fight just had a fantastic conceit we had Gaara and unn punchable opponent against Rock Lee who could basically only punch things from moment one of this showdown it's clear that Rock Lee is absolutely no chance of victory that becomes the point of the match though Lee is so overpowered that every single blow that he manages to land on Gaara makes you want to stand up and Cheer it doesn't matter that he loses in the end the fact is that he challenged Gaara beyond all odds and proved himself as a worthy ninja despite his inability to use ninjutsu this is the ultimate crowd-pleasing Naruto moment and the definitive one where Rock Lee proved that both he and the series itself were both legends alright I'm gonna switch things up a bit and give the moral of the story first don't mess with Shikamaru Shikamaru Nara might be the ultimate background anime character he doesn't appear very often but when he does you know what's gonna be good hey showdowns with tamari and Toyo you both showed off his brilliant tactical mind and his skills with a shadow none of that compares to what happened to old hidan though see he don't really had it coming he was an immortal death God worshipping psycho who took out four awesome up leaving his daughter without a father Shikamaru his best student vowed to get revenge and boy oh boy did he get some revenge and the end shikamaru restrained the immortal ninja to a specific spot on the ground covered him in explosives and informed him that the land would never be disturbed by his clan then he literally blew heat on two pieces and left him there for all eternity so yeah like I said don't mess with Shikamaru there's no one in the Naruto world who enjoys the subtle art of freaking people out quite like Orochimaru does if there's an opportunity to do something in a normal way or do something that will cause you eternal nightmares he goes for the nightmares 100% of the time he makes this explicitly clear in his first arc in the series he attacks the gang during round two of the Chunin exams he bites Sasuke reveals he's wearing a fake face and generally shows himself to be a pretty strange guy we don't really see how far that goes until he throws down with the Third Hokage there he reveals his creepy secret Orochimaru removes his disguise revealing that he has the ability to take over people's bodies the look of that innocent girl with Orochimaru as creepy evil voice truly disturbs me on some real levels the show continues to examine the true biological perversions of orochimaru's life over the years that first one it really stands out and then they kind of just forgive him in Bora Taub for some reason Sasuke dabbled in evil here and there during the early days of Shippuden but we all still held hopes for his Redemption then Sasuke did something so twisted that it seemed like he was doomed to darkness forever let's take a few steps back first Sasuke spent his post Orochimaru time building a new team of ninja to serve with the Sasuke's strike team known as taka would go on to help Sasuke find Itachi and even join up a kutsuki perhaps the most notable member of this team was Karin these Sakura ask ninja fell in love with Sasuke immediately it's even revealed that her greatest wish is for him to simply smile at her how does he repay her love not that well during his legendary showdown with Danzo Karin gets taken hostage instead of saving her life Danzo expected Sasuke stabbed through her mortally wounding Danzo and injuring her this coupled with the twisted look on his face made it seem like this was the end of any hope for Sasuke luckily shinobi are very forgiving and it's all good now what's a major puncture wounds matter between friends right the early days of Naruto proved that these series could pull off some truly interesting villains while they seem largely forgotten now Zaza and Haku were very entertaining bad guys in most other animes a villain like Zabuza would be one of their best it's a testament to the villains of Naruto that he gets washed out in a sea of Akatsuki members and freaky snake people the same could be said for Haku Naruto's first real tragedy his father feared both he and his mother's latent abilities and tried to terminate them both Haku saved himself but not his mother and was orphaned he was then taken in my Zabuza who became his teacher father figure and eventually his partner when the pair took on team seven Haku handled Naruto and Sasuke he trapped our heroes in his demonic mirroring ice crystals that seemed impenetrable so much so that Haku seemingly took Sasuke out for good that led to Naruto going all out for the first time he accessed the nine-tailed Fox's chakra and busted Haku out of one of his seemingly invincible mirrors Haku then sacrificed his life for Zabuza and then Zabuza returned the favor in the end he'll be remembered for being the first one to push Naruto into his true power you might not have been able to protect it early on in the series but Naruto and Hinata ended up having one of the sweetest relationships in all of anime certainly better than Goku and chichi his relationship that's for sure it just took a long long time for them to get there it was no secret to anyone that Hinata had a mad crush on Naruto well except for Naruto himself that is she blushed pretty much anytime he was around and hung on his every word meanwhile he only had eyes for his teammate who acted like they wanted nothing to do with him of course been referring to Sasuke here who else would I be talking about Hinata finally did reveal her true feelings for Naruto but her timing wasn't the best during Paine's vicious assault on Konoha Hinata bravely fought against pain to save Naruto she then explains that she loves him right before pain impales her at that moment it looked like all hope for the blooming Naruto Hinata romance was dashed just as it had begun of course she was saved by Sakura and eventually married Naruto but for a second there it looked pretty bleak for them during chip attends finals stretch it seemed like we finally knew what was going on after Nagato was revealed to be the leader of the Akatsuki then moderate and we tow posing as moderate and then legit moderate we had a handle on it madara uchiha was the big bad and he wanted to put the entire world in a nice little dream forever it's not the worst bad guy plan as far as bad guy plans go and then they pulled another rug out from under us it turns out that madara was also being manipulated and he's not even the big bad nope that honor goes to Cagayan suit scheme she spun the entire universe on its head by revealing that she was the first chakra user and was essentially a shinobi God as far as days of work go that had to be a particularly bad one for Naruto he just fought in a global conflict taken on an ancient shinobi and now he had to fight a god it's pretty rough man the Chunin exam mark got pretty real in the third round one of the most intense matches we saw in the tournament section was the fateful showdown between Neji and Hinata of the Hyuga clan this was an interesting fight on many levels for one we got to see two people square off with the exact same powers both used the Byakugan ability and the gentle fist style we really get to see characters in Naruto fight using the exact same technique it no longer becomes a match about which technique or strategy is better but which one has progressed further with it secondly this match provided an in-depth look at the messed-up Society of the Hyuga clan Neji was forced into servitude to hang out his family at an extremely young age using a barbaric curse seal he was even traumatized after watching his father punished by their masters using the seal so in many ways Neji was fighting Hinata to show that he was greater than the Hyuga treated him to be in fact he even insults Hinata before the match telling her that she's too weak to even challenge him this hurts Haneda but she refuses to give in what follows is a brutal showdown and a testament to him out his fortitude despite the fact that Neji is clearly better than her she refuses to give in Neji so enraged by Hinata attacks her with lethal force he's barely stopped before finishing the move it's kind of fitting then that his arc ends with him sacrificing himself for her not because he was forced to but because he chose to in the end this match of the Hugo's ended up changing both for and there you have it the most emotionally charged moments in all of Naruto which a moment to the series shook you up the most are you still heard over Neji in Jiraiya let us know in the comments down below and don't forget to Like and subscribe to CBR for as much Naruto action as he can handle [Music]
