[Music] hello and welcome to our first development blog of the swamp of souls my name is Matt and I'm an illustrator and a dungeon master and I'm going to be creating my own content that you can play with your friends we're also going to be bringing in my partner Lena who's a classically trained artist so we can pack in as much art as possible in all of our Creations now we just finished our first Kickstarter a One-Shot Adventure called a night out at the halfway in I'll just leave a art blast here so you can see everything that we created for that Adventure it contains not only a lot of art but pre-made characters history World building creatures Back stories all set in a world we're creating called Winter's Edge but as a One-Shot Adventure it can slot nicely into your own campaign worlds we are starting our next project the swamp of souls it's like a mini campaign set inside a sprawling swamp with all sorts of factions and sto story lines going on in there it could keep your players going for quite a while and you could pop it into your own corner of the world or use it as a base starting area for the world of Winter's Edge so let's start with a rough idea of the setting the swamp has been there for centuries it was once a healthy sprawling landscape that supported a diverse and thriving ecosystem that was until a great Darkness fell from the heavens and crashed deep into the swamp The Druids gathered and sought to find a way to harness its radiating power unfortunately the darkness corrupts all that it touches and its touch has slowly Twisted the swamp into a dark and malan setting there's a number of factions and races all dealing with this corruption in their own unique way but we'll go through that one development blog at a time in this blog I'll go over the two key mechanics I want to achieve in this adventure the first mechanic is to provide the GM with an unfolding World a living breathing campaign filled with a wide range of diverse biomes each of them almost a One-Shot setting in their own right as the adventurers push their way deeper into the swamp's black heart I don't want players to feel as though they're just moving through a generic swamp but through an everchanging area all with their own challenges encounters and stories stories that carry over into other areas they unlock the games master can use this system to open areas randomly as the party explores the vastness of the swamp or the games master can lay out the areas beforehand to create a shorter adventure with specific story lines or quests the second key mechanic I want to introduce is a definite risk and reward system where the party decides how far they wish to push their luck one of the main storylines will introduce this mechanic with the party balancing their greed or their good intentions with the dangers they find inside the Deep swamp the further they push the more dangerous it gets with less chance of rest and recovery and of course the further they push the harder it is to get get out as they lose health and run out of spells it will be up to the party how much further they push I want them to feel like the chance for a tpk is totally in their hands so that's the general overview and I'll drill down into those mechanics as we continue our development our next blog will start in the outskirts of the swamp in the wetlands where a race of simple Fisher folk live in the village of Still Water far away from the crippling corruption but aware that it creeps closer every day we will first explore the her and Folk R and then the town they live in and the nearby Monastery Lena is currently working on the ghost outs that live deep in the old swamp and we'll cover them soon too thanks for following our progress there's going to be a link below with the pre-launch page if you just want to be notified when the kickstarter is ready to go otherwise we'll keep up this development blog process so follow along with us we've also set up a website to document this development in the form of a Blog so if you want to check out the artwork and notes head on over there link is also in the description below and there's a button there to click to be emailed with updates thank you for watching and talk soon [Music] bye
