hey what's up everybody I want to take a quick second talk about a trailer hitches so recently I was in the market for a new trailer hitch to pull my new 5th wheel camper didn't know anything about 5th wheel towing but I reached out to a couple friends that have been towing for a while camper for a while pulling RVs and they were able to guide me in the right direction in my trailer hitch shopping journey but I know a lot of people don't always have those opportunities so they do research and sometimes make bad decisions not knowing so what I want to do is a kind of do a review on my BMW companion trailer hitch for my 2017 f-250 and show you how that works and how easy it is to install and use and maybe help you make your decisions I'm going to go ahead and get that loaded in the back of the truck and I'll show you how easy it is to pry so now I got the components up in the back of the truck get a little better view at it so like I said it's the companion BMW a trailer hitch it's two-piece so it's pretty easy to move around by yourself it's still kind of heavy this is a 20k hitch so it's got some meat on it but I also took this opportunity after I pulled it out to check torque specs and a whatnot while I had it apart just just for in case so yeah that's your base and then here is your top section and it's it's pretty simple man it's not a not too crazy not too hard to work but I'll go ahead and get it up in there and we'll install it okay so here in the back of my truck is a 26 f250 Super Duty has the 6-7 power stroke this is what I was telling you about earlier with the fit footprint package rider knees here is actually another whole fifth wheel ball you can pull in and out I don't have any gooseneck trailer and I don't do any type of towing so I didn't really fool with that but I did cut out the bed liner that I had installed to benefit my fifth wheel companion hitch here with this puck style mounting system which is super sweet Ford offers that whenever you buy from the factory so you don't have to you don't have to have one installed it's already there so you could buy this contains the hitches you could pull them in and out it's super easy to use they make the other ones with the frame rails that you can put in the slider hitches and whatnot I didn't I didn't really see me me for it I like this because it's done basically that clean push bed when I needed we'll go ahead and get this installed and I'll show you how easy to do that that's the first thing you want to do is go ahead and get your companion hitch in place you're gonna open these little locks here into the open position just like this and you'll go ahead and set the put us down where they made up sits in there good like that we just grab these little animals here and you'll pull it in to this middle section and I'll show you how we do that a lock in place it's a little snug to be too tight just kind of tap it in place if it's loose or too loose these are all pretty snug and you just want to hand tight you can take this little safety pin out here this cotter pin and you could tighten down on this handle and what it'll do is it'll wear that that hook is mounted in it'll just pull it tight but it's it's perfect that way so I'm going to get my safety pins will pin that in there and then we'll install the second half up on the top all right so I got my safety pins here what you do is you just slide them in [Music] all the holes on your handles and that's going to keep your handles from coming loose and open up and that would be a bad day that won't be a bad day send your trailer down the road that's it base is installed that's it I know it seems weird but it's all that holes moves it in place it definitely works because after this 16,000 pound v lu 10-hour haul and don't go anywhere it's there so now I take this a white lithium grease and I cook all my polyurethane bushings here kind of help keep the friction down and it also helps with the dirt and whatnot - so I just kind of wipe it all down to give it a fine coat the top half five income keeping bushings from wearing down any and wanted squeaking noises I will go ahead and install the head portion so the head portion you have this safety pin that's what locks it in when you put it together so we're just go ahead and pull that out what you do is you'll grab these two levers on the side take it out that locks down there take these uh pins slide it through put you've got a keys back in there just like that locks in place also what I like to do is when I got it where my king pin lock and stuff is here I'll go ahead and uh supreme me pinko degrees inside there everything moving [Music] [Music] that's it you ready to I don't know notice if you notice here on top of my 5th wheel hitch it's dry it's clean well I've done some research and instead of flying the the grease actually used a Teflon disc that I highly recommend because man ain't nothing worse than all that nasty grease everywhere every time you touch something get behind your truck you get nasty you kids get nasty it's just a mess man the Teflon discs are perfect it's like 20 bucks on Amazon you can get two or three of them in a pack and I just keep this bearing the truck in case one breaks or something but I haven't had any issues but yeah if you're considering upgrading the two hitches or in the market for new 5th wheel hitch I highly recommend any of the puck style system ones that made up with the Ducati Liam or even dodge has to a belief super easy install they need your bed back you got it so yeah I highly recommend it it definitely gets the job done you
