this is why el capone he started over there went to the casino he bet a little bit had a margarita relax and dinner party harder and then he comes over here to get loose good morning buenos dias this day ensenada we are here in ensenada on our road trip around baja if you missed the episode from last week where we crossed over the border in tijuana went through rosarito went through puerto nuevo and got here to ensenada make sure you check that out i'm here with my boy tadeo and brandon is on the ones and twos as usual what's on the agenda today okay to start uh today we should start with a breakfast taco and the best breakfast taco in ensenada should be a fish taco my friend and right there in the corner there's tacos on phoenix we are going to kick there so fish tacos do you have those for breakfast yeah for sure in mexico you can get a billiard for breakfast but almost if you will you can get any kind of taco for breakfast we're on the coast it's famous ensenada is famous for its seafood and we'll be having a ton of seafood today let's go explore ensenada starting with a fish taco the original let's go there are several taco stands that lay claim to the original baja style fish taco but general consensus grants this taco's phoenix the distinct honor of being first with the same family still serving up this street treat since it opened in 1970 all right i went with one fish taco the original and one shrimp taco fried right here flash fried everything is so fresh they're making their own salsas cutting up their own tomatoes and you get them just basically like this tortillas and the fish the shrimp and you go down this beautiful line you run it through the garden so let's start at the beginning we have some pickled onions here just a few of those it's a long day so i don't want to get my breath too bad a little squirt of lime across the board come down here a little pico de gallo right here then you got the cabbage repo right then you have this beautiful green salsa which she just made fresh this is just jalapenos a little bit of water and avocado on there that looks beautiful and then we're gonna get into the danger zone this is where he hits and even this even more dangerous one here and then you get to the final stage this is the advanced level then you get the cream which is necessary to put on you have radishes and cucumbers here as well just for additions definitely going to need a couple of sodas all right here we go the original fish taco look at that enjoy my friend it's going to be good [Music] first thing that hit you is that crunch that crunch from the fish and such a soft light fish then the salsas come in and also the crispiness of that repo that the cabbage the cabbage and the pico de gallo comes in the tomatoes and that beautiful green salsa that is about as perfect of a fish taco as it gets through the back side there i'm going both ends i want maximum crunch yeah yeah full crunch oh my god the seasoning on that batter i'm not gonna lie to you i was a little suspect of having fish tacos at nine in the morning man now i can tell you it's a good it's a good breakfast real quick i'm jumping right into the strip taco this is shrimp fried up the same way the shrimp itself is definitely more flavorful and more meaty the i like the fish because it's so light you can really let everything else shine that shrimp taco also very good yeah yeah fish taco you can go five or something yeah yeah but the shrimp you're going to eat over with two or three yeah this is definitely heavier i think yeah yeah but it's good and you can really taste that shrimp flavor and with the with the white fish it's not really overpowering so this is delicious fish is a famous one but don't don't sleep on the shrimp get one of those as well oh man breakfast my friend the most important part of your day look look the colors purple white green a little bit of everything wrapped in a tortilla you want to talk about it [Music] perfect ensenada one of the first settlements in the californias which has since emerged as a popular cruise ship destination and jump off point to mexico's wine region valle de guadalupe which we'll cover in the next episode but in the meantime we take a quick culinary time out to explore the city on foot and learn a little bit about what makes this coastal city tick [Music] all right now we're down at the marina here in ensenada and this is the launch pad for fishing tours for boat trips you see two massive cruise ships in the distance and this is also the entrance to mercado negro which is the fish market down here in ensenada a bunch of different fish we're gonna go check that out right now let's go see what they got [Applause] [Music] so you have smoked fish and fresh fish you have salmon marlin and tuna here beautiful sets of shrimp all over the place you have clams and oysters big massive tunas here some snappers a bunch of halibut halibut's funny because a lot of people eat halibut but i don't think they realize how ugly the fish is itself ugly but delicious all right tell me where are we at now okay my friend uh we are savvy we are at sabine sabina it's a restaurant uh made by a beautiful old lady who started in a small car in the in in the next corner and when she becomes more popular and more famous it starts to attract the attentions of other high uh top tier chefs yeah and it got a wonderful recognition because she has wonderful tostadas amazing really spicy salsas be careful with that stuff and nowadays it's uh the whole restaurant is the same name as the lady so typically she has a cart just outside right across the street from this restaurant and unfortunately just based on timing to find in the base ceviche fish ceviche and then we are going to find a caracal in the top and the salsa of the house it's going to be in in both of the tostadas and at the top our cate wonderful looking caracol is snails snails c is nails c o c snails okay whoa that house salsa very good that hits very light not too fishy i was expecting to get punched in the face with a bunch of fish but not too bad at all and the the sea snails add a nice little texture to it almost like an octopus it has a kind of chewiness to it that's not bad at all i was a little nervous about the sea snails to be honest with you uh the name of that one it's the eddy power heavy power and this one is the singapore like uh all right what do we got on this one uh in the in the bottom we have a highway and uh a little bit of shrimp a little bit of octopus and uh in the topping um or uh scallops scallops but fresh it's the scallops are not cooked like in the raw restaurant but the other things like the octopus and the and the shrimp it's already it's already okay the key for that to start like this one is try to put everything in the first bite like uh i might mix the perfect bite try the perfect bite cheers my friend thank you yeah they put a ton of fish on there the showiness of the octopus match perfectly with the softness of the base of the iowa yeah and it's creamy a little bit sweet uh also has a little bit of lime in the top we already see when they were preparing so the acidity of the lime much perfect with everything else yeah it's a wonderful tostada for a start and this is a delicious lemonade what we call lemonade lemonade cucumber and chia seed oh my gosh it is so refreshing look at that all right and this is the last one now this isn't typical of the stand correct this is new because of the restaurant now as the as the place has been expanding in this in this restaurant now they have a full kitchen now they could they can do this kind of tacos back in the days there was only tostadas there okay and this taco name is el norteno a corn tortilla beans pico de gallo and also has a chicharron della ramos and uh octopus charon too octopus chicharron you like uh fill a fight between an octopus and a pork in your mouth a fight between an octopus and a pork in my mouth here we go how am i even supposed to pick this thing up crunchy fatty you can taste a little bit of the salsa the beans add a beautiful little base layer of sweetness and texture pico de get you that beautiful freshness it's a battle between the chicharron and the octopus chicharron so who will be dominant and right now to me they're dancing together in my mouth no it's a friendship between octopuses they come together yeah yeah wow all right ladies and gentlemen and now a very serious operation we're about to embark on tell me where we are now and what's the mission okay my friends today uh in this place it's the riviera cultural center but back in the days riviera cultural center was not only a critical center it was a hotel and casinos in the 30s okay and now there is this old nice place it's host of a bar who presumes to be the home the birthplace of the margarita and also we are going to match the other place who claim to be the birthplace of the margaritas so there's two places in ensenada that claim they are the original margarita and as great researchers that we are science science yeah the name of science we're going to go try two different places first starting off here let's go to the baran daluz at the end we'll explain it here come on [Music] all right here we are stop number one of our mission of margaritas and we are at bar andaluz which is a beautiful property a spanish style compound huge mural behind the bar all these old photos that i absolutely love incredible tiling what's the story here and why do they assume that they are the margarita okay er the bartender of this place of the barandalus was get ashore from the owner margarita king the former owner of the riviera hotel and casino and that guy designed the margarita and named it after her the owner of the 30s and this is the original recipe and that's the 1930s 1930s all right here we go let's try [Music] feel like late 20s tastes like prohibition prohibition a little bit tastes a little bit like like the the people from the south of california weren't able to get wrong in the house and that's a real thing tijuana and all of baja people would come down from california during prohibition because they can drink here that's when bars opened up lots of restaurants as well and i gotta say this is light it is not too sweet all right i'm not gonna give my final ranking yet because we still have to try the other one right oh yeah but as far as atmosphere goes this is one that's gonna be tough to beat look at now we're getting a little tour of the old hotel and casino i wanna have a party here beautiful the light is oh nice wow i want to get married here maybe maybe look at the topping come on the casino what this is the casino back in the 1930s this was the casino of this location and now man it is so well preserved the original artwork on the ceiling those are all original from the 1930s looks like james bond yeah checking everybody in the middle and each of these holes you can see the little holes each of those there was a guard inside because there was no camera so in order to look down at the casino make sure nobody was cheating you know all the software now that people can watch and face detection there was just a guard in each of those little holes this is incredible and here's the safe over here hello it's not it's not foreign [Music] wait until you see this [Music] this is the bar just imagine look at this tile all original tiles original artwork murals oh look at that provocative murals incredible i love this stuff vip here we are heading down into el capone's tunnels this will get you to different streets so one of the tunnels actually that al capone used goes directly to the next bar that we'll be going to it's all linked together in the downtown of encenada so he go he goes from here has a margarita and he goes under a tunnel and he goes up to the next margarita we're about to do the same thing unfortunately the full tunnel has since been concaved but we're gonna take a peek of it and then go to the next spot so we're basically al capone right now yeah i am re-reliving his footsteps some good fellas tracks right now all right and at the end of el capone's tunnels from the other side of the hotel casino you get to cantina hussongs 1892 yeah a delay at the late of the 18th century was already here being a cantina but a cantina doesn't serve usually drinks it's more for beer so maybe it can it can give some hints about that okay we're piecing the story together let's go inside and taste test thanks a lot el capone appreciate it it's your fault [Music] [Music] [Music] smaller glass a bigger kick that one was poodle alcohol that was your thank you tequila orange we got to be quick this one is much stronger i love that this one's much stronger i can already losing my language this one is we gotta be quick for the next one we'll tell you in a minute [Music] oh the best combination ever i gotta say the smaller glass i actually love this cup but even this glass even better uh definitely much stronger here and one of them said this is the original and another one deferred to our first location i love the idea of even when you work in one way or the other there is even the different fancy between the the other ones yeah yeah even in the same bar it's there's a two different way there's two different bar centers that said no no that one was the real one no this is the real one either way you can't go wrong with either of these i'm going to give this one points for strength of drink this is definitely much stronger i actually like the cup on this one it seems very old school it's been here longer so i'm going to give the opponent to that both places incredible atmospheres this one and that one every week completely different this one's alive and energetic you have live music here yeah the other one is more tranquilo it's more laid back the history about the invention of the margarita is different in this place was a bartender trying new mixes and the daughter of the german cancer was the one coming to this area and her name was margarita margarita so they have different stories but either way it leads to a great drink live music you can't go wrong with your spot actually the order is perfect you take a date here you go to that place first have a margarita you talk a little bit and then when you want to turn things up a notch you come here yeah and if you uh after that one or two margaritas then you start to grab some beers in that one you are not going to be using yeah yeah you're right in the beer but this one you can go this is why el capone he started over there went to the casino he bet a little bit had a margarita relax and dinner party harder and then he comes over here to get loose whose songs this is a great place i can't pick a favorite i'm gonna give no i don't know i'm gonna do both do i'm balls to get points because i like my drinks strong so i'm actually going to say this one's the winner but i like the other one too that's perfect he likes it i like this one so yeah the best advice is to do both we're going to enjoy these chips we have chips here with the hot sauce in line out of a bag live music a lively bar as good as you can guess my friend what does it get we're just going to enjoy see you later [Music] what an energy in there incredible people so friendly everybody all barman are named yeah like if you come to hussain's ask for sergio and someone is going to attend you that's not their names but that's so funny the margarita was top that was so good i don't know if you heard any of that in there but it was delicious just an unbelievable atmosphere but we're gonna wrap the video up here maybe we'll go for a beer maybe not if you guys like the video as always please subscribe make sure you comment let me know what was your favorite part of the day hit that notifications bell check out border tours editing everything do everything if you can click something click everything like no but everything else click finish this video by clicking everything you can and that is it let's keep let's keep going all right we're ready we're signing off here i'll see you guys in the next one next episode of guadalupe the napa valley the wine country of mexico enjoy thank you see you next one the last two uh last two uh the last two styles of today okay the last two one more time okay the last two the smell here is [Music] something oh no okay might be my favorite until i saw this taco inside i just feel very relaxed today wow i feel maybe low energy but i just feel because it's relaxed like yeah much different environment than tijuana where you yeah yeah in tijuana it's more quick more pigment in slow down we're easily going and already we have a tacos inside of us so like i'm just slowly going through this day even this talking bit right now i'm just like yeah yeah we're down here at the marina and we're hanging out just real relaxed here today yeah let's let's go marco negro if we i'm too relaxed
